Suspicious package found in J’ville

A large section of the Wellington suburb of Johnsonville has been cordoned off as fire fighters investigate a suspicious package left at the building which houses MP Peter Dunne’s electorate office.

Several fire engines were at the scene.

A hazardous materials command unit is at the scene and a red tent has been erected outside the Cardno building on the corner of Frankmoore Ave and Trafalgar St.

The building houses UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne’s electorate office.

Good. That needs to be clarified and dealt with openly and properly.

Parliamentary Services had advised the Speaker they haven’t recorded when they have supplied security information. That’s lax and totally unacceptable.

A bit of a Dunne news day.

The Speaker has dismissed a breach of privilege complaint that had been laid by Labour following the Henry Report into the leaking of the Kitteridge Report, which led to Mr Dunne’s resignation as a Minister.

“I welcome the Speaker’s decision to dismiss the complaint and his ruling that my answers did not deliberately mislead the Finance and Expenditure Committee, nor were in contempt of Parliament.

“Although the Henry Report made no allegation against me, nor challenged any of my evidence, its excessive focus on circumstantial matters led to unfounded inferences and innuendos that have not only damaged my reputation, but also made it impossible for me to continue as a Minister.

“Today’s ruling that I did not deliberately mislead the Finance and Expenditure Committee effectively clears me, which I welcome, and it means I can now move forward with confidence once more and put this unfortunate whole situation behind me.

“The last few weeks have been extremely difficult for everyone affected by this case, and on behalf of my family I express my appreciation for the huge public support we have received,” Mr Dunne says

Christianity existed for hundreds of years before the Bible as we know it was compiled.
If you had used the words “Sacred Scripture”, you may have a fair question.

Christianity is not “all about the Bible”.
It is about the revelation of Jesus Christ and His coming to earth to lead us to God, and learn about the kingdom of God, and teach us how we can – if we wish – spend eternity in complete happiness in the presence of God, the saints etc. in heaven.

Now normally I’d have no sympathy for old Lewis here, but …Monday’s fines included $200 for no warrant of fitness on his trailer, $200 for operating an unlicensed motor vehicle and $200 for not having registration plates affixed in the prescribed manner
WTF the tralier is pulled by a horse, so is the tralier the unlicenced motor vehicle? I mean hitched to a horse the brake lights & indicators aren’t likely to be operational unless he’s somehow managed to stick a plug up horses arse & found a way to convert the methane into a usable power source.
Dont get me wrong the guy looks & sounds like a nuisance & parking the horse & cart obviously takes up car parks, but the council should be able come up with a better solution than giving out frivolous tickets that it has no chance of ever collecting.
And at least his lifestyle choice doesnt involve a benefit.

No, he didn’t say that. He said that he had come to fulfil the law and the prophets (as summarised in the two “great commandments” and reported in both Matthew and Luke).

Interestingly they did a survey in the worlds biggest Christian country [the US] and found Atheists & Jews had better bible knowledge than Christians. Based on what I have seen here on KB, it appears to be the same in NZ.

For a long time Nelson had two very serious problems. A white Swan in the river and old Lewis. They murdered the swan and are still working on Lewis.

” Potential risk of money laundering

95 Cash intensive industries such as casinos are attractive to money laundering activity. New Zealand’s National Risk Assessment 2010 assessed casinos as presenting moderate to high risk of money laundering.

For this reason, casinos (including all SkyCity casinos) are subject to the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 (the AML/CFT Act), which comes into force on 30 June 2013.

96 Nothing in the Agreement affects SkyCity’s obligations under the AML/CFT Act. Those obligations include:

a. developing a risk assessment of the money laundering and terrorism financing risks facing SkyCity

b. appointing an AML/CFT compliance officer

c. designing and implementing an AML/CFT programme, which must include:

i. vetting senior managers and staff engaged in AML/CFT related duties

ii. training senior managers and relevant staff on AML/CFT related matters

iii. complying with customer due diligence (CDD) requirements, including
determining when enhanced CDD is required, when simplified CDD might be permitted, and when CDD can be carried
out by a person other than the reporting entity

iv. reporting suspicious transactions

v. monitoring and record keeping, especially in relation to specified high-risk transactions and business relationships

vi. policies and procedures for how SkyCity will manage and mitigate its risks of money laundering and financing of terrorism

vii. monitoring and managing compliance with the AML/CFT programme.

97 However, there are aspects of the regulatory concessions that potentially raise the risk of money laundering through SkyCity.

98 For example, the anonymity that can be associated with TITO technology has the potential to facilitate money laundering, by increasing the potential for currency refining and ticket structuring.

In effect, this means that low denomination notes could be fed into one or more gaming machines or kiosks and then be redeemed by ticket into high denomination notes or casino cheques.

Increasing the use of TITO technology (and raising the denominations that can be fed into a machine) may therefore increase the potential for money laundering.

99 Increased use of “white cards” may also lead to increased risk of money laundering.

White cards are an account-based system with a unique identifier that permits transaction sequences to be tracked. However, the form of identification information associated with each card will depend on the “business relationship” between the casino and the white card holder(s).

100 The limits on anonymous cashing-out of TITO and white cards described in paragraphs 69-71 of this paper are aimed at mitigating this potentially higher risk of money laundering. …”

(1) Copies of all/any Information OFCANZ has provided for the NZ International Convention Centre Bill / or any related Regulatory Impact Report or Statement/ Cabinet re: the increased risk of money-laundering

2) Information which confimrs that the views of OFCANZ on the increased risk of money-laundering were sought by any of the following parties:

a) Department of Internal Affairs
b) Ministry of Economic Development
c) Sky City
d) The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
e) The Office of the Prime Minister
f) Cabinet
g) Any Cabinet Minister (in particular Steven Joyce)

3) I am also interested in any information held by OFCANZ on how TITO (Tickets In Tickets Out) can be used for money-laundering at casinos.

I would prefer this information to be provided electronically?

4) All/any information held by OFCANZ which raises concerns about the potential increase in ‘organised crime’ as a result of potentially increased money-laundering opportunities through the proposed NZ International Convention Centre Bill.

Judith, I reckon Bain is guilty, but my thoughts are not relevant. The facts are:

1. He served 13 years in prison but has no conviction.

2. An independent review has established it is unlikely he did it.

He should be paid out. I see no reason that Bain should not be compensated when the proper authorities and process have found him innocent. The rest is just armchair speculation.

I don’t think that Gerry’s safety was ever compromised. It’s been confirmed that the powder in the envelopes was baking soda.

A lethal dose of baking soda is 3.36gram/Kg of body weight. Gerry would weigh 180 in his jockeys so he’d have to snort or swallow about 65gram or over half a cup before we called the undertaker.

I think he would have noticed. 🙂

Jesus did not say that, nor did I claim he did. If you are really interested in finding out what Jesus meant by fulfilling the law and the prophets, you need to read Matthew or Luke, and not simply misquote a snippet out of context. I’m not convinced that you have any interest in comprehending, but all the best.

604 grams nasska. Good thing you chose law and not accountancy isn’t it. Only just over half a kilo. Fat Bastard should be able to manage that in his sleep. I hope he tries it just to prove that he can. If I was in parliament I’d harass him in the House until he got so annoyed he bet me he could do it.

I reckon it was probably the ChCh City CEO and Fat Bastard was the real target and he decided to target Dunne as well because he needed someone to divert attention and he knew no-one would miss Dunne. But sadly the ChCh drug dealers have been hit so hard by huge demand from all the young builders that the only thing available down there is baking soda, all the good stuff went ages ago.

So that’s my theory. What’s yours?

@ Griff, medicine, schooling and law did pre-date Jesus, but only for the privileged.

Access to schooling and healthcare for all, good housing, care for orphans, freedom from slavery, and safe workplaces were not promoted by secular interests in the west. They were largely the result of campaigning or action by Christians, mainly non-conformists. Secular reformers followed their example later, but would they have done so without having a lead to follow?

I think there are quite serious aspects to the powder in letters.

It seems to have been very disruptive in Johnsonville in particular. It affected a number of offices and organisations and I think a child care centre, plus caused major traffic disruption.

But the worst aspect is the affect on staff involved, plus others who were close to having to be stripped, washed down and taken to hospital. It is designed to scare and intimidate, and to do that to staff of MPs is a disgraceful and cowardly act.

There once was a scientist doing an experiment on the
reaction of fleas. He had trained a flea to jump on

The first envelope, sent to Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee, was opened by a parliamentary staff member in his office.

It was then isolated by police until an army testing team arrived.

Police were interviewing the staff members, he said.

The discovery of the envelope at Dunne’s office sparked a major response from emergency services, with a large section of Johnsonville cordoned off.

Several fire engines and a hazardous-materials command unit attended the scene, and a red tent was erected outside the building.

He understood had been taken away by emergency services.

“My understanding is she’s not unwell; she hasn’t been harmed by it.”

He said he was still awaiting full details.

Johnsonville Community Centre administrator Christine Ritchie said 23 children were evacuated from the Early Impressions creche situated in the building.

The children were kept warm inside a mobile blood unit as they waited to be collected
