If he hadn’t popped up here to provide some ammo for the Whale Gunners, this post might have had a few tut-tut comments, then we would have all moved on. Now it’s dragged out to 63 comments & rising, around 50% pointing out how silly Dunne has been in the circumstances, the other 50% PG trying to convince us that Dunne has the perfect right to act like a knob, while employed by taxpayers, with nary a harsh word to spoken agin’ him.

Same at DPF’s online house – endless posts by PG dragging out Dunne’s misdeeds waaaay longer than they to be, feeding them oxygen, increasing the possible Google Search hits for Dunne to enjoy for eternity.

Must be working against Dunne. It’s hard to see how PG leaping into the fray repeatedly can possibly be assisting Dunne. PG had gone a bit quiet after announcing his attempt to bore an entire city to death, but is now back to his frenetic defence (or not…?) attempts. A true wannabe polly – any publicity…

“At one level, one might shrug: companies die every day; new ones are born. That is part of the dynamics of capitalism. So, too, for cities. Maybe Detroit and cities like it are just in the wrong location for the goods and services that 21st-century America demands.

But such a diagnosis would be wrong, and it’s extremely important to recognize that Detroit’s demise is not simply an inevitable outcome of the market.

For one, the description is incomplete: Detroit’s most serious problems are confined to the city limits. Elsewhere in the metropolitan area, there is ample economic activity. In suburbs like Bloomfield Hills, Mich., the median household income is more than $125,000. A 45-minute drive from Detroit is Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan, one of the world’s pre-eminent hubs of research and knowledge production.

Detroit’s travails arise in part from a distinctive aspect of America’s divided economy and society. As the sociologists Sean F. Reardon and Kendra Bischoff have pointed out, our country is becoming vastly more economically segregated, which can be even more pernicious than being racially segregated. Detroit is the example par excellence of the seclusion of affluent (and mostly white) elites in suburban enclaves. There is a rationale for battening down the hatches: the rich thus ensure that they don’t have to pay any share of the local public goods and services of their less well-off neighbors, and that their children don’t have to mix with those of lower socioeconomic status.

I’m not really following it other than seeing headlines in passing but has there actually been a legitimate race in the America’s Cup yet? Seems like everything has been won by the other team not showing up, breaking down or being eliminated on a technicality. I saw the “Lean With Us” ads run by Toyota for the first time last night. They must regret that sponsorship agreement, a company built on reliability supporting the least reliable racing ever.

Not wanting to turn this into a Bain argument, but your statement is factually incorrect. The rifle used in the Bain killings was not wiped clean. If it had been there would have been no fingerprints found on it. There were at least 9 fingerprints found in blood (excluding the fingerprints of Stephen Bain, and the Prints of David Bain that were not in blood).

Had the rifle been wiped, those extra 9 prints, would have not have been recognisible as prints by their ridging detail. They were, but for legal reasons, because there were not 8 points of identification they could not be used in court, and so the police threw them away.

Hoping that physical activity works:

start off 80.7kg low reading…. run 10km, piss around swinging at the punchbag, seated squats 87kg x 10 sets of 10 reps, go into town and try to dance some fat off. Subsist on mostly raw carrot and tinned tomato and cups of tea. Hide from kitchen in bedroom half a day. Get up and prepare to be burnt by the scales as per usual and more painful waiting…..

Make the weight, 79.7!! Wait even longer… weigh again… 1.1 kilo under golden line 78.9!! Celebrate by baking biscuits and ginger crunch.

Off day with the baking… not the greatest results. I did manage to pick up the skill for dipping biscuits in melted dark chocolate and dessicated coconut. Works a treat, couldn’t look better… and the bonus that it covers up any flaws. Easy to add visual appeal for minimum effort by using say 100s/ 1000s, choc sprinkles or finely chopped nuts etc.

Enough carbs now to run to Africa….. perfect Wellington weather….

I find this very hard to believe… but there’s seven biscuits and ginger crunch left untouched. I’ve had my fill. A year ago I probably would’ve scoffed the lot in nothing flat. Instead of just most of it in nothing flat. Time to pay the piper… 10km run minimum.

dime 10:38 am Dieting of any description is hell on earth fella. We probably had the exact same blink blink reaction to looking at the paleo terms and conditions. They’re freaks!! They’re one step above a feeding tube of plain nutrients for a coma patient.

All roads lead to Rome so a lot of good dieting strategies happen to coincide with paleo anyway. I use that as a bit of a guide but I’m not giving up sugar or anything else totally. That’s a living death… forget it.

The human body is a see-saw…. one end is always up in the air. Which end is up is the only question. It’s one shitty option or the other. Good figure or good food. One form of prison sentence or another. I got my gold standard reading… shit… it’s like being given parole as long as you don’t visit the forbidden foods for anything longer than the odd conjugal visit.

OK. A little late entering the lists this morning I guess, but I had to bring this subject into play.

(OK, so i get no takers or a bunch of red marks. So what!)

No, the subject intriguing me today is the revival of that ol’ chestnut, “Who Killed Princess Di – and Why?”

I see that, following some information that has evidently recently surfaced, the latest explanation gaining favour amongst the chattering and conspiracy-theory classes is that: “Di’s death was a British SAS operation”. Woo-hoo!! Is there no end to the imaginative theorising of people who say. “It couldn’t have just been a traffic accident! Could it?”

Well, here’s my theory, based on 30 plus years in the British and NZ military and having rubbed shoulders with Paras and SAS in Belfast for a year, plus – and, don’t mock this – troopship travel with SAS guys from UK to Singapore back in the day.

The way these latest ‘revelations’ emerged was probably out of idle chat/debate/discussion – call it what you like – in Other Ranks Clubs, Senior NCO’s Messes and Officers Clubs and Messes. I have to say that the theme of ‘What REALLY Happened in ….” is a common one in those environments where idle chat over the glasses and tankards is the norm.

I’ve heard so many!! What REALLY happened in Kosovo/Belfast/Londonderry/the Gulf etc., etc.. Given the – IMHO – appalling inability of the regular press to be accurate in their reporting, plus the natural inclination of Service people to keep contentious subjects in-house, its no wonder that myths and exaggerations sometimes gain currency in sections of the media.

And such is what I consider to be this latest ‘What really happened to Princess Di’ story. BUT! And its a big but, when a fable/myth/story about a personality as important and well known as the Princess gains currency, then it has to be addressed, either to substantiate or dismiss it as (probably boozy) conjecture.

I know where I’d be putting my money!!

Think about how some of the Holocaust survivors did it tough and made it out alive when they should’ve been dead from malnutrition, beatings, overwork, cold, disease and death marches. Kyle Chapman this year is again a candidate for to become Mayor of Christchurch. The prominent ex-skinhead has a controversial past that can be read about on Wikipedia (it alleges clean-slate confessions in 1995 of politically motivated arson attacks between 1987 and 1992 on education buildings and homes of known sex offenders). Since that time he has trained a a social workers and worked with young people, but more recently created the Right Wing Resistance group.

Chapman isn’t the most unusual mayoral candidate. That would be Michael (Tubby) Hansen, who has been standing as a candidate for electorates in general elections, for health boards, and for council offices for at least 40 years, and probably has lost his deposit each and every time. In one of his first electoral campaigns he won brief notoriety for his urging that NZ migration policy be reshaped with the prime aim of enticing Swedish single women to settle in this country.

Hansen at past council elections has advocated Christchurch council allow pigs to be kept as pets and replace metal bus-stop seats with wooden ones. He also has in some of his campaigns expressed concerns about the unhealthy rays he thinks bombard the city.

If past elections are any indication, the Christchurch Press will all but ignore Hansen, who got about 160 votes at the last election. This is understandable but a little hypocritical given the other weirdos who get in its columns from time to time. I don’t think Chapman stood for mayor at the election last time, but Wikipedia says he stood twice before that, once as the National Front Candidate. I think Chapman obtained something like 300 votes.

Judging by the acreage given to a same-sex marriage pair in the Press on Saturday (and in Kiwiblog today), these two would get pages and pages of coverage if they were able to announce today that they were marrying other men.

haha…. as usual if I’d kept my mouth shut rather than telling some stupid bitch what a stupid bitch she is… I would’ve been fine.

I was hanging out with ‘the future of the country’… random early twenties street people… and said young woman walks along and starts bleating that three weeks ago one of the ‘fine young gentlemen’ – ‘Zenith’ is his name… ‘ruined’ her birthday because he had the audacity to request payment for a balloon animal instead of just giving it to her.

She’s at the age where people are most likely to be of the ‘me, me, me, me, me’ mentality. This was 100% obvious within one second of her presence.

I actually kept quiet initially and watched on as she wouldn’t let up about how this young fella had ‘wronged’ her…. ‘ruined’ her birthday…. how did he do that again? He sells balloon animals. And ‘should’ve’ given her one for free. I actually took myself by surprise by bothering to say anything to her. I started off by saying that there’s people in this world going hungry and living with disease, and you’re worried about a fucking balloon animal. And then I very calmly and collectively summed her up and told her exactly what I thought of her and her ‘problems’… coherently and in a controlled manner. And of course puffed up blowhard full of themselves immature little white girls don’t like it when they cross paths with someone who can hit the nail on the head and string words together in the process in a sober well-spoken manner. I called her a spoilt little white bitch. Obnoxious. Ignorant.

You know…. just like I might be on KB… only face to face. You really had to be there to experience the youth of today for yourself. The young fella with the balloon animals, although bright, wasn’t yet equipped with life experience to articulate much of a response to her bratty antics. But *I* sure as hell was. Old age has an upside!!

Interesting ratings for Campbell Live last week. They pushed and pushed and pushed their anti-GCSB campaign – and pushed viewers away. They had some of their worst average ratings all year.

The only really significant change was on Friday, when their GCSB road crew happened to arrive in Seddon just after the earthquake and they had good coverage of that.

Campbell has the end of his GCSB road rage show tonight and the results of his horribly unscientific poll.

He might get some viewers back later in the week.

dime, yes you are right. The notion that if you don’t eat enough the body just, shuts down, is clearly bullshit. Your metabolic rate may decrease, but you will lose weight if you eat less. Anyone who can prove otherwise will receive a Nobel Prize and will solve the worlds energy needs forever. It would turn our understanding of physics upside down.

Not wanting to turn this thread into an argument as to whether David Bain is guilty or not, but that rifle was wiped down because blood was smeared all over it.
And just because when tests were done three years later no blood was found under David Bain’s fingerprints it does not follow they were not in blood.
In the Bain/Binnie interview Bains’ best notion was that those fingerprints were in animal blood from the summer.

Just keeping it honest.

All you will ever see in anything progressive is individualistic desires fulfilled. Sex, drugs, food, – the ‘senses’ have now been fulfilled. The end.

The ideology of individualism is dominant over communalism in the West.

Individualism is the idea that the individual need to look after oneself before others. Looking after oneself before others means to serve oneself, rather than others. In other words, the needs of community and family are placed after the self – they are of a lower status than the self. The needs of others are not as important and do not deserve any care, unless, of course, they can benefit the self.

Individualism is selfish. Although people need to look after themselves, the needs of others need to be cared for in pursuing one’s interests. Other peoples ‘sense of worth’ is then fulfilled.

A community is a whole body made up of different parts with different functions. It is a lie that there is no such thing as society because we all depend on others to achieve our interests and obtain our needs.

It is not that focusing on helping a certain group of people is wrong. It is that it is selfish to pursue one’s own rights without caring for the needs of others.

The show is successful because it is NOT about individual desires being fulfilled based soley upon just any one or two of the ‘senses’ being satisfied. The show is not immature.

Going by the commenters recommending “Duck Dynasty” I have little doubt that it would be best described as mind bleach for Godnutters & conservatives. Wikipedia has this to state about the lead character:

Doctors in Australia have removed a 10-centimetre fork from inside an elderly man’s penis after a bizarre sexual mishap.

The 70-year-old arrived at the Canberra Hospital emergency department with a bleeding sexual organ.

He told doctors he had inserted the 10cm dining fork into his urethra almost 12 hours earlier in an attempt to achieve sexual gratification.

But the utensil became stuck.

The fork was not visible but doctors were able to feel it from the outside and X-rays showed its position.

Doctors considered several retrieval options before deciding to pull the fork free using forceps and “copious lubrication” while the patient was under a general anaesthetic.

The elderly patient was then sent home.

The medical emergency was so rare the team of three doctors published the case in The International Journal of Surgery last month.

No, you’re wrong and its nothing of the sort. I have only seen five episodes, but there is no preaching or moralising and the only time they usually mention God is in the closing scene of each show which is the family meal, and they say a fleeting grace of about 10 seconds.

The real attraction is the Louisiana lifestyle that includes hunting shooting fishing and blowing things up and examples of what they call redneck ingenuity. (such as the water park that had a ski tow hooked up to the rear wheel of a Chevy pickup.)

As usual you prog hillbilly hick you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

Its the most popular show on TV by far- so face up to it loser, the prog era that shaped your sick nihilistic socially destructive commie lifestyle is fast drawing to an end.

If you start with a cage containing five monkeys and inside the cage, hang a banana on a string from the top and then you place a set of stairs under the banana, before long a monkey will go to the stairs and climb toward the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, you spray all the other monkeys with cold water.

After a while another monkey makes an attempt with same result … all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it. Now, put the cold water away.

Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and attempts to climb the stairs. To his shock, all of the other monkeys beat the crap out of him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys, replacing it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment…… with enthusiasm, because he is now part of the “team”. Then, replace a third original monkey with a new one, followed by the fourth, then the fifth.. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked.

Now, the monkeys that are beating him up have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs. Neither do they know why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey. Finally, having replaced all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys will have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, not one of the monkeys will try to climb the stairway for the banana.

Why, you ask? Because in their minds…that is the way it has always been! This, my friends, is how Parliment operates… and this is why, from time to time: ALL of the monkeys need to be REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.

11% to 89% opposed to GCSB bill on Campbell Live. Also on Campbell live most people they interview are against it. Kind of surprising since everyone they interview seems to have an opinion; I would have though Joe Average would scratch his head and say WTF?
hard to believe people are aware of (say) the law societies argument, whereas they might think “oh well Tame Iti and his mates would have got caught out a bit better..”
Will be interesting to compare other polls.
