Wouldn’t all people like a pay rise just because they’re a woman?

Caregiver Kristine Bartlett believes her hourly wage of $14.46 is less than what would be paid to male employees with the same or similar skills.

“I don’t think people really acknowledge or recognise our work and the skills that we have for the pay rate we get – it’s just unfair,” she said.

“It’s exhausting, it’s demanding and unless somebody stands up and fights, they just will not do anything and recognise how hard it is. We do it because we love it.”

Bad luck. Low-skill job. Low pay. Get lost.

It’s got nothing to do with being a woman. I’ll tell you what else is exhausting for near minimum wage – unskilled labouring. Maybe Kristine would like to fill a wheelbarrow with shit and take it for a walk. Then whine about the definition of hard work and exhaustion. Or try moving furniture for fuck all an hour.

She’s been doing the same noddy job for 20 years. So what? What does that mean? Here – have $20 an hour because you can’t or won’t do anything else apart from one of the least skilled lines of work? Switch to an easier job mate if it’s ‘too hard’. Can’t be that hard if she’s stuck it out for 20 years on low pay.

I’d love to see her ‘hard day at work’. It’s babysitting elderly gaga retards mate.

Jobs aren’t the same. And it’s not called New Zeagrad. That’s just arbitrary… deciding that two different jobs are the same and should be paid the same. Taking away the free market principle. Ask yourself how long does it take to become a ‘qualified’ ‘home carer’? Is it three years? Nah. Three days probably. Who does she think she bloody is? You do a dumb dumb job you get paid SFA. It’s the same for blokes. Stacking shelves on the nightfill team? SFA wage. Oh, you’re a bloke? Here… have some more money. We’ll just pay you more than we have to. Yeah, right!!

thedavincimode, I agree and it would be a lot more honest. It would also shut me up and I would not have to come out and defend the pricks against untruths and double standards. If someone claims to hate a particular race/religion/culture, I may not agree, but I will admire their honesty. kowtow can not bring herself to tell the truth.

Left Right and Centre , I would agree that she is under paid, but your point is valid. Guys are often doing hard, dirty, dangerous jobs for their money. Just look at the number of males killed in the work place compared to women. Yet I don’t see women demanding equal death and maiming at work.

I’ll tell you something completely unrelated that I wish I hadn’t let happen and it slightly pissed me off. I’m at the Backbencher… at a table with the one and only DPF… and some boozed to buggery blowhard boofhead in a suit staggers over and his eyes bulge looking at the chocolate caramel slice I’d made for DPF, who had cut it down into smaller pieces. I don’t know who the fuck this dick is… and he’s slurring… he’s out on his feet… and he grabs a big arse piece of slice and starts shoving it in his face with as much style as a hungry dog. It’s a distasteful memory of that evening. I really wish that just hadn’t happened. I didn’t cook the thing just to let some drunk goon stick his nose in yet another trough. It wasn’t that late on a weeknight… 8pm-ish? Gave me an impression of the lifestyle of some of these people eh.

And he had a an older mate in a suit who actually wasn’t pissed.. but was clearly devoid of any contact with ‘the ordinaries’ such as myself. They had little black/ red badges which said NZ on them… I should’ve asked them if they were NZ First badges. They could’ve been there supporting another weirdo NZ First MP who had been on Back Benches earlier on. Don’t know.

I went for a run tonight. I am on the come-back, having reached an epic 92kg, and it ain’t all muscle 🙂

Kea 10:39 pm I thought it looked good. It’s not so much ‘people’ out boozing… most people there weren’t anything like hammered. It was the thought that it might be someone from a political party. You know how they come across as high and mighty about everything. So… there’s always one? Yeah, it is a pub… but still. Getting quite tipsy on a Weds night? It’s ok for some. It was more the thing of ‘seeing their world’ and how they live. These are the so-called ‘respectable’ people who talk about all the social harm caused by alcohol…. and then their social scene can be hypocritical. I would struggle to think of a time when I’ve ever been drinking on a weeknight mon-thurs in my life. It might never have happened. It’s just interesting when anyone in politics waxes lyrical about alcohol when within their own world some of them do all kinds of things that most nzders would raise an eyebrow at and wouldn’t want to do themselves.

I didn’t touch a drop. I also had a friend in Wilton to get back to – to share a piece of his half of the choc caramel slice recipe… and he offered me another beer… so I think my beer count in 2013 has increased from 2 to 5 bottles.

I think my thing with alcohol is like this: up to a few drinks is fine. When people start turning into mindless unappealing fucktards…. no. Getting wasted every now and then.. no problem. Every weekend? No… that’s weak.

Single weight numbers don’t tell me a lot about someone’s weight. My low reading today was 80.9kg. I say low reading – of course it can drop further if outwards goods exceeds inwards after getting up but generally the lowest is when you get up. High reading might be 83kg at the end of a waking day. So what do I weigh? 81-83kg. No-one weighs any one single snapshot number. Would be near impossible to accurately measure body composition too.

So… 92kg could be 92-95kg or 89-92kg. No idea. I can’t even tell you what weight I should be *exactly*. I’ve got no fucking clue. I picked 80kg out of thin air. Good round number… sure sure. I might be better off at 83-85… who knows? So when you say you’re 8kg over or whatever… to me it’s a rough number. I’m thinking in terms of + or – weight ranges rather than fixed single snapshot numbers.

Ok – on the scales now? 83.4kg. Up from 80.9kg when I got up haha… at 4pm. What’s that… 2.5kg in tea and tomatoes!!

92 was a number I passed on the way to the 80s… in my mind I see a downward slope at 92. I was once quite happy to reach 92. Then 91. Then 90.

It’s one form of hell or another – whichever one you choose. I’d love love love love to bake myself lots of recipes and have a really good time eating them… and of course food cravings intensify if you keep your body on the downlow. It’s a bit of a prison sentence either way… especially if you don’t even get the upside of having a woman who might enjoy your hard work.

kea – I loved making chocolate caramel slice. First attempt wasn’t as good as the second. DPF got the second and much better attempt. Second attempt I went for the ‘two tin’ version. Recipes using condensed milk fall into either one or two tin categories. Caramel to chocolate to biscuit ratio was the stuff of my boyhood dreams. Without being insanely over the top. It stopped just short of getting funny looks. Two blocks of milk chocolate. I thought I’d just melt it and shove it on without trying to do any ‘cooking’ crap to it. Also used milk instead of dark. And shaved coconut topping. Oh yeah… and a seriously generous tightly packed layer of peanuts in the caramel. I didn’t weigh the tin but I weighed each half after eating the rough cut off edges myself – 1.8kg between them.

That’s the recipe I used or mostly followed… I bake by consensus and keep looking up the same recipe until I’m happy I’m getting a good version of it and good advice. Like the choc caramel slice – I decided that it’s not the real thing unless it’s got condensed milk, brown sugar, real chocolate, golden syrup and coconut in it. You’ll see a recipe that uses cocoa or cocoa powder or something… pffff… forget it.

Next idea is to play around with the size of the layers…. add hokey pokey… cut into chocolate bar size pieces… dip all sides in melted chocolate.

Hokey pokey is just stupidly easy to make. Golden syrup, sugar, baking soda. That’s it. I ate some last night – for such a simple and inexpensive thing, it gives off a hell of a lot of pleasure. Easy to make Crunchie bars… shape it, add thick toffee or caramel on top, dip sides in melted chocolate… you’ve got yourself a party.

Your idea of a run is prancing gayly around the water front on flat paved surfaces. My idea of a run is striding up mountain sides and bounding through the forests in a very manly fashion. I bet you even run with an ipod tucked into your lycra pants you faggot 😉

Kea 8:01 pm You got the flat paved surfaces right. Very easy to roll your feet on shitty uneven surfaces. MP3 player was a gamechanger. Makes me run better and faster.

I’ve never worn lycra. Running shorts and a t shirt. Or no shirt. I ran 20kms from 5:30am thursday with no top. I wasn’t cold. The slice must’ve been good fuel… 1:31’31”, that’s about as fast as I ever want to run. Copious quantities of caffeine too. I’ve got to run tonight at some stage dammit. Blister bubbles both feet probably from my worn out running shoes. I had to take a needle to try and drain one of them… they tell you to leave them but it was huge and annoying. MP3 player is tucked into sweatband. Which are just a look. Only the first layer of socks get soaked in sweat in winter. Need sweatbands in summer, not winter. Can give yourself red marks from arms swinging too close to body with no top on.

It’s good fun running past people dressed up in coats and I’m running effectively naked.

My advice for weight control is crank out kms. Doesn’t matter how soft they are or how long it takes… although I set myself a 10km/h minimum pace… I’ve walked the damn run once when I was sick. If it’s easy as fuck… a person is more likely to do more. I’ve kept up 10kms a day on average because my time limit is realistic to include days when you suck or can’t be arsed. 2 700kms in 2013.

LRC, the reason you feel like you may roll your ankle is because you have not strengthened your supporting muscles. It is a self fulfilling prophecy. If I pounced around the water front [shirtless] wearing a sweet band and listening to music while perving at the girls, I too would have weak and delicate ankles.

Have you tried any of the barefoot, minimalist shoes ? I have a pair and find them great off road. Very good stability and feel, plus super light.

Kea 9:17 pm No, I really don’t think that’s it. I’d say my supporting muscles are just fine.

My right foot has a problem unrelated to running… it would often leave me limping a day of driving… and running used to make it squeak but now nothing. I haven’t limped from my right foot for ages and ages. I also do seated squats… I think that incoporates a fair few ‘supporting muscles’.

Mate – it’s just something less to have to worry about or bother thinking about. If you find yourself hitting almost 15km/h, then you tell me how much you want to have to think about tripping over or having any kind of foot placement issue. And at 12-13km/h I don’t want to have issues either.

I think in all of my running – I might’ve rolled a foot badly once ever and had to stop and walk. Other times the foot might roll without injury. That doesn’t happen often. Once I fell over in a heap because I tripped on a sawn-off sign pole on a roundabout. I was watching the road, not the sawn-off sign. The faster you go, the more your feet will want to play-up. I’m sure if you started hitting 12-13km/h for 10-20kms in a row on a regular basis you’d find the same thing.

I don’t think there’s anything weak about racking up 80kms a week this year. Cuz look up Tawa on google maps. There aint no fucking water.

Kea 9:17 pm ah yeah the shoes. Well first off I’ve never paid more than about $60 for a pair of running shoes.

And second- my shoes are worn down to a point where they don’t wear down further and are probably very similar in philosophy to the ‘no shoe’ shoes anyway.. ha. I wear two pairs of socks and think of it as wearing socks wrapped in thin rubber which is still better than going barefoot…. which I’ve also tried. Didn’t like it.

LRC, You are right about the worn shoes, though you will still have a big drop between heel and forefoot. That means your heel will tend to hit before your forefoot. That is not how nature intended you to run.

I suggest you take your running to the next level by including some hill work. Stop prancing around the water front with your shirt off like a show pony and hit the hills. You will develop some real power and improve your peak capacity. Skipping along like a fairy will cause you to turn into a smug faggot and take up cycling. 🙂

Kea 9:59 pm Except that I’ve read all about heel-strike and foot-strike so I try to land mid-foot and less on the heel. There are no heels left on my shoes to land on ffs.

I like *running* not stair-climbing. To build the legs I’d rather do weights.

Come for a run with me and tell me how soft it is because it’s ‘flat’. Make it 20kms?

LRC, yes you should do weights too. But you will notice a big difference after doing some hills. You will look even more fabulous when you effortlessly float past the heavy footed plodders while perving at the talent on the water front.

Kea 10:17 pm what is it with you and the waterfront? I’ve run 7 000kms+ since Nov 05 – and only twice have any of them been anywhere near any fucking water – and one of those was the Round The Bays run… I didn’t have much stinking choice.

There’s nothing to perve where I run. Very little. Maybe one hot chick every 300-500kms or so.

LRC, so you wear special aids to help manage your wrist sweat ? What a brilliant idea ! How many times have I been out running with sweat streaming into my eyes making them go red, my entire body soaked with sweat, and had the whole experience ruined by sweaty wrists. 🙂
