The Swiss in a referendum look set to vote three-to-one to keep Army conscription for male citizens, and militia type service (guns kept at home) from age 18 to 34. Exit polls indicate Army service will stay.

One reason the Swiss like compulsory military service is that it helps unite the German, French, and Italian speaking communities of Switzerland.

Swiss keep their Army assault rifles at home, but ammunition is stored in Army depots.

The German elections continues a good trend. Norway recently went conservative / right wing. Australia goes the same way. Germany stays the same ( but I agree with kowtow’s comment). Also in Germany the Green vote dropped from 11% to 8% and similarly in Australia Green’s drop from 11% to 8.5%.

Now for a very lightweight observation.

Has anyone else noticed a disease which has broken out among TV 1 ‘reporters’ ?

Virtually every breathlesss on air report begins with the anchor asking a question
and the reply from the reporter on the spot always begins with either the word “Look,….blah, blah.”
or, “Now look,…..blah, blah…”

Corin Dan has never filed a report that didn’t include the word ‘Look,…..blah, blah,”

But i guess it is better than, ‘Listen…..blah, blah,’

Small point but. Look, maybe i should get a life.

Maybe we will get over it soon.

I’ve always taken it that if someone prefaced a sentence with “look…” then they were kind of peeved with you asking the question (at least in real life); kind of like you should know better and shouldn’t have to ask, kind of thing.

Have been trying to decide to vote for in the Wellington elections.
Morrison 1 and Yan 2 are easy picks for Mayor.
Biggest problem has been finding anyone worth voting for standing for the Regional Council.
On the other hand, most of the candidates for the DHB look fairly solid (Kedgley excepted).

You should try some of my ginger caramel crunch man. Fuck it’s good. I’ll address it to ‘Kea’ c/o courier depot in your nearest town/ city.

(I made some and gave a few pieces to my ‘mates’ at pak n save and they bloody loved it. Except one Indian woman who asked me if it had egg in it. No, it doesn’t it’s fine. She was on a five day vegetarian diet and passed. ?? One lady took two pieces for her kids).

It’s harder to cook anything now that all four stovetop elements thermostats are rooted… 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

LRC, I will eat just about anything and are always trying new stuff, but I have no sweet tooth. It is not a diet thing, I just don’t eat it. On that note, I have lost 3kg with just a few minor tweaks to my eating and a bit of running.

My previous stove was tragic with each element having its own personality. I had to pick an element carefully. The new one does not make the food taste any better 🙂

Well done mate. After my fill of crunch I somehow managed to survive without daily cement shoe casserole. Fearing the daily weigh-in today I hopped on the FUCKING SCALES – sorry – but all was golden. I’d got away with dieting murder – ginger crunch half recipe two days straight. Probably helps if you dance and do 600 squat reps 47.5-73.5kg over eight hours. You know – just to be on the safe side…. 🙂 🙂

No sweet tooth. ?? Wow – that’s different. What on earth do you crave then? I’ll take your old stove. At least it’s got a personality… unlike mine which is very much like someone we know of…. *highest heat* or nothing.

LR, that is a mountain of squats ! I am still working on doing one pistol squat properly. Most nights I work on flexibility and balance. The strength is the easy part.

iKea…. if you know anything about me I try to shoot for accuracy as much as possible. I did seated squats – not true squats which are much harder and use more energy. And also could count longer down and up but hey….

And – you don’t plan to do that many. You do a hundy and then reassess. Still into it? Legs not cramping or creaking? Go nuts. I like that if you keep the weight down it has no effect on the legs for running in terms of rooting them beyond use. Part of it (all of it?) was also burning off energy. I hate bad readings. I can do squats all day long to bend the energy equation my way… they’re good for that. I’d done my widowmakers the day before. Only 90kg x 10 x 10 but hey. That’s enough for me.

I ran at 3am and the legs were ripping it up. I couldn’t/ didn’t want to keep up with them… and the lungs definitely said ‘fuck off… I don’t think so’. Ripped a 41’54” 10kms. As I say – I wasn’t running 100% either. 95%? That’s the squats for sure. Amazing difference. As the legs were having a great time and I was thinking ‘fuck, here we go *sigh*’ – I did think about you and your ‘my best times were when I was squatting hardest’ comment. It should make sense. Build the legs…. bang. Run fast. I thought I was flagging on lap two and finished faster than fucking lap one – incredible. I didn’t look at splits so had no idea of lap time until home. If you’re going all out 100% – you look at splits no question. Never set a PB without looking at splits.

LRC, The problem with squatting heavy weights is the recovery time cuts into your running, but overall I think it helped.

LRC, I was going to start at the gym doing heavy squats again, until I found out about the Pistol. Until I have the core strength, balance and flexibility for that, I will not do the heavy stuff at the gym. The pistol is a humbling exercise 🙂

yep… you’ve got it… that’s happened to me. Heavy leg workout – dead legs running and shit it’s just horrible slogging it out. I find it interesting when you’ve got two effects at work cancelling each other out a bit- boost in strength from workout but as you say short-term recovering legs won’t move. In that case it’s the lungs saying ‘what’s the hold-up down there?’ hehehe

We’re not designed to go mental with heavy weights – I don’t care what bodybuilders/ powerlifters etc say or do. I think they look great but what’s the long-term cost? A lot of them get serious injuries or permanent joint damage.

I might’ve told this story before but I used to do more widowmaker seated squat and deadlift reps earlier in the year until the back made a serious complaint about the workload. So I stopped. And came back lifting lighter initially. Running became a lot more enjoyable. At least there’s an upside I thought at the time.

I’m sure I’ve seen your ‘no sweet tooth’ comment before too… that’s fantastic for weight management eh? Well – it’s one helpful thing surely.

Is it possible for pistol to help squat, but also lighter weight squat to help pistol? I like the idea of the total being greater than the sum of the parts. When I’m running/ punching/ lifting/ dancing… they all seem to help each other.
