You are pathetic. Have you ever been to Hooters? It’s a sports bar with pretty girls as waitresses. It is no way a strip club or a morally deviant establishment.

I went for the Key Lime Pie rather than the tits.

I took my elderly parents to Hooters. They thought it was great. My friend’s folks liked it because it served plain, reasonably priced food. The guy went for dinner at Hooters when on a business trip. How awful.

Look, I think he’s a useless wanker, but this is nothing more than a beat up.

I watched the Beyond the Darklands episode on Mark Lundy.

There seemed to be a fair bit of interesting material in there, along with a lot that can really only be classed as character assassination. Plus some of it sounded incorrect based on other things I have read, like their assertion that the increased life insurance policy was already in place.

F E or other criminal lawyers – what is the stance on broadcasting material like this when an appeal is in the pipeline? Is it ok if a conviction is already entered? It certainly seems like something that could prejudice a future jury.

Like just about everywhere voting in the south is low, in Dunedin very low – 22.8% as of last night compared to 36.3% in 2010. Dunedin lags lacklustre voting in the south

Whose fault is it? The incumbent councils? The candidates? The media? the voters?

I am going to go for candidates PG.

I am not meaning Dunedin but NZ generally. I have to say the Mayoral lineup in Auckland is one of the biggest bunch of lunatics, monkeys, fraudsters and general delinquents I have ever seen.

At least 2 are unemployed and homeless. One lives in his car. 2 or 3 are psychics or homeopaths or something. One is the self-styled “founder” of a spiritual organisation called the “Dark Horse University” that exists to support the “disengaged and disempowered”. The incumbent has committed credit card fraud that would get any private sector worker sacked. The “right wing” candidate supports the living wage and only supports a reduction in the growth of rates and not a cut in them. Let’s not forget there is Kiwiblog’s very own Waterwoman, along with John “Police Baton Fodder” Minto in there as well.

One supports the abolition of rates and taxes, which sounds promising… then goes on to say that in a communist society rates and taxes aren’t necessary. She almost had me!

They all support various other think big “Monorail” projects like the city rail loop and a “second CBD in Manukau”…. FFS

That explains my apathy, anyway.

BBC had ‘deep liberal bias’ over immigration, says former news chief… (unlike Radio New Zealand).

“Boaden, who is now the BBC’s head of radio, made the candid admission to a BBC Trust review into the impartiality of the corporation’s coverage of immigration, religion and the European Union.

She told the review, published on Wednesday, that the BBC did not take the views of lobby group Migration Watch “as seriously as it might have” when she became director of news in September 2004.

Boaden is the latest BBC executive to state publicly that the corporation had a liberal bias on controversial topics such as immigration – an accusation it routinely faces from rightwing sections of the media.

Ceri Thomas, the acting deputy director of BBC News and former Today editor, was more measured when asked about the BBC’s coverage. He told the review: “Any culture can be at risk of excluding what it thinks is wrong, possibly marginalising significant chunks of public opinion. We need to push against this consensus every day.”

Immigration is driving up home prices, says the minister who believes houses are better than green fields… (unlike Aotearoa/NZ)

“Immigration is helping to fuel rises in house prices that are preventing young people from owning their own home, the Planning Minister has warned.

Nick Boles said he has changed his mind about immigration after seeing how the arrival of 2 million new immigrants over the last decade has left Britain short of houses.

He warned that failure to build enough homes would mean only the professional classes would be able to buy a house.

Mr Boles told the Mail: ‘I have become much more critical of immigration. A very substantial contribution to housing need comes from the level of immigration in the past two decades.’

The Planning Minister revealed that he has changed his views since becoming MP for the Lincolnshire towns of Grantham and Stamford in 2010 and minister with responsibility for liberalising the planning system to promote house building last year.

He said: ‘I had the classic metropolitan view about immigration that it was broadly good for me because it made life more varied and interesting and there were lots of people bringing different skills into the economy.

‘I wasn’t really aware of the effect on people who were competing for relatively low skilled jobs and competing for public services.”

Just voted in the local body elections for Tauranga.

Choices for regional council were dire. Supposed to pick 5 I think, but could only find 3 that…

1. did not hold social science degrees (need real life experience)
2. did not have a long history in bureaucratic positions (get a job).
3. Were not treaty advocates (don’t like race based entitlements)
4. Did not work for the greens (greens against mostly everything).

As for DHB selections …. is that a joke? I just numbered 1…7 the first 7 choices. No idea who they were and no interest. Surely someone more qualified than I should be making DHB appointments.

For all the criticism of cheaf executives (town clerk) the public are in the dark as to what they really do. I was told that top executives make decisions that come into effect (we may not be able to judge until) years down the track? Why doesn’t a journalist actually present a day in the life of a top executive (including the thorny fast split second / slowly chewed over thought through to great depth decisions)?

I’m for doing away with it completely myself, but if it must exist, surely the secular aspect must be adhered to, and this watermelon crap is nothing more than a sick religion.

Given Jane Kelsey is a socialist, it is organised by a socialist group and will be in front of a bunch of socialist academics and socialist Princes St Labour stooges and socialist students, and probably moderated by one, you haven’t left much to chance. Seems somewhat cowardly IMHO, but then universities have never been a bastion of free speech, unless it is in support of left wing political ideals.

Personally, I suspect that whatever the content of the debate you would consider it a victory.

Without Obama at the Bali Apec the heat will be well down on the TPP making it a non event sideshow offering. It will go on the back burner until all parties are fully engaged.
In the meantime the domestic lockdown in the US drags on with looming repercussions for the global economy in the form of another credit crunch, particularly for the US.
For New Zealand it means that our dollar will go ballistic, get in quick while you have the chance.

9. 11. Legislate for a legally-enforcable ‘Code of Conduct’ for members of the NZ Judiciary, to ensure they are not ‘above the law’.

12. Ensure that ALL NZ Court proceedings are recorded, and audio records made available to parties who request them.

13. Make it a lawful requirement for a publicly-available NZ Judicial ‘Register of Interests’, to help prevent ‘conflicts of interest’.

14. Make it a lawful requirement for a publicly-available NZ ‘Register of Lobbyists’ and ‘Code of Conduct for Lobbyists’ at Central Government Ministerial level.

15. Make it a lawful requirement at NZ Central and Local Government level for a ‘post-separation employment quarantine’ period from the time officials leave the public service to take up a similar role in the private sector. (Help stop the ‘revolving door’).

16. Make it a lawful requirement that it is only a binding vote of the public majority that can determine whether public assets held at NZ Central or Local Government level are sold; or long-term leased via Public-Private –Partnerships (PPPs).

17. Make it unlawful for politicians to knowingly misrepresent their policies prior to election at central or local government level.

18. Make laws to protect individuals, NGOs and community-based organisations who are ‘whistleblowing’ against ‘conflicts of interest’ and corrupt practices at central and local government level and within the judiciary.

19. Legislate to help stop ‘State Capture’, a form of ‘grand corruption’ arguably endemic in NZ – where vested interests get their way at the ‘policy level’ before legislation is passed which serves their interests.

If that was due diligence then it was the worst due diligence I have ever seen.

I always knew you were missing a few sandwiches from your lunchbox, but I never picked you to be the deliberately malicious and defamatory type.

Any person with a computer can see that all of the companies you listed above which have been struck off have been due to the normal wind down of a business. The 3 companies that were liquidated were all solvent liquidations with no creditors.

Even our left wing MSM has pointed out what a successful business career John Palino has had.

You surely can’t be that stupid that you don’t know what a solvent liquidation is?

Do you seriously think people wouldn’t take the 30 seconds to fact check you?

Do you seriously think you had just claimed the scalp of John Palino?

Do you think Aucklanders want a Mayor with that kind of commercial nous, and a penchant for making highly defamatory and untrue statements?

Or a Mayor that is just too fucking thick to find a companies office report on a public database?

Well, I have, for months, been querying one very simple point with Penny. I think points 4 and 5 of her proposed “ACTION PLAN” have some merit:

4. Legislate for an enforceable ‘Code of Conduct’ for NZ Members of Parliament (who make the rules for everyone else).

5. Make it an offence under the Local Government Act 2002 for NZ Local Government elected representatives to breach their ‘Code of Conduct’.

And I have posed the idea to Penny that these points should be extended to ALL elected officials. I asked Penny whether she – as someone who has run for mayor previously, and stood for other offices – would agree to such a code of conduct herself. Funnily enough, I have NEVER had an answer from Penny.

If one were to be in an argumentative mood, one might possibly argue, in a considered fashion of course, that Graham did not suggest any time that Penny had been convicted of wilful damage (which is the offence associated with vandalism).

One might indeed, arguably, form the considered opinion that Graham had suggested (admittedly in a forthright manner) that Penny had committed acts of vandalism. It might also follow from that fact that Graham does not have to prove a criminal conviction. He might simply have to prove on the balance of probability that Penny had vandalised something.

Vandalism involves intentional damage. The dictionary definition of damage involves injury or harm impairing the function or condition of a person or thing. Look at the thuggish tactics his park rangers just used on senior citizen tourists to Yellowstone.

Vaillancourt was one of thousands of people who found themselves in a national park as the federal government shutdown went into effect on Oct. 1. For many hours her tour group, which included senior citizen visitors from Japan, Australia, Canada and the United States, were locked in a Yellowstone National Park hotel under armed guard.

The tourists were treated harshly by armed park employees, she said, so much so that some of the foreign tourists with limited English skills thought they were under arrest.

When finally allowed to leave, the bus was not allowed to halt at all along the 2.5-hour trip out of the park, not even to stop at private bathrooms that were open along the route.

“We’ve become a country of fear, guns and control,” said Vaillancourt, who grew up in Lawrence. “It was like they brought out the armed forces. Nobody was saying, ‘we’re sorry,’ it was all like — ” as she clenched her fist and banged it against her forearm.

Rangers systematically sent visitors out of the park, though some groups that had hotel reservations — such as Vaillancourt’s — were allowed to stay for two days. Those two days started out on a sour note, she said.

The bus stopped along a road when a large herd of bison passed nearby, and seniors filed out to take photos. Almost immediately, an armed ranger came by and ordered them to get back in, saying they couldn’t “recreate.” The tour guide, who had paid a $300 fee the day before to bring the group into the park, argued that the seniors weren’t “recreating,” just taking photos.

“She responded and said, ‘Sir, you are recreating,’ and her tone became very aggressive,” Vaillancourt said.

The seniors quickly filed back onboard and the bus went to the Old Faithful Inn, the park’s premier lodge located adjacent to the park’s most famous site, Old Faithful geyser. That was as close as they could get to the famous site — barricades were erected around Old Faithful, and the seniors were locked inside the hotel, where armed rangers stayed at the door.

“They looked like Hulk Hogans, armed. They told us you can’t go outside,” she said. “Some of the Asians who were on the tour said, ‘Oh my God, are we under arrest?’ They felt like they were criminals.”

As the bus made its 2.5-hour journey out of Yellowstone, the tour guide made arrangements to stop at a full-service bathroom at an in-park dude ranch he had done business with in the past. Though the bus had its own small bathroom, Vaillancourt said seniors were looking for a more comfortable place to stop. But no stop was made — Vaillancourt said the dude ranch had been warned that its license to operate would be revoked if it allowed the bus to stop. So the bus continued on to Livingston, Mont., a gateway city to the park.

I see Jeremy McLaughlin has been sentenced to at least 23 years in jail. Justice Panckhurst described the case against McLaughlin as overwhelming. But, no, according to McLaughlin’s aunt we’ve all got it terribly wrong:

“This is a very sad day. The Bayliss family have not yet received completion and an innocent man has been sentenced for a murder he did not commit. [Is he innocent of the Perth manslaughter too?]

I’m very disappointed that Jeremy allowed himself to be … manipulated into the Bayliss home that day and hence to become the smokescreen and the scapegoat for this terrible thing. (*) McLaughlin had handed in a letter to the victim’s family that he wanted to read out in court, but it was ruled out by Justice Panckhurst because it would not be appropriate because it still contained a denial of the murder.

The US system is set up so that the actors within it must reach a compromise. The Republicans are effectively holding themselves hostage by not allowing a vote on the shutdown. The longer the impasse lasts, the greater the pressure will be on Boehner and his colleagues to give way.
