Watched The Vote last night on TV3, the debate was ‘should we mine and drill more.’

The depth of hatred coming from Russell Norman towards the mining / drilling sector was truly astonishing. If this guy were able to, he would crash NZ through the ‘transition we must make to renewable energy’ and to hell with the chaos. He looks to me like the sort of guy who would rain vengeance down upon those that create wealth and jobs in this country.

He spoke well, but also employed the same condescension we heard from Julie Anne Genter towards Sean Plunket during a debate about Trans Gully. To paraphrase, ‘you are dinosaurs, we are modern, we are the future’.

It’s a brilliant ruse and works beautifully with the young, feckless, stupid and envious voter.

Worth watching on demand.

Aratere failure – the ship seems jinxed but in fairness, the problem seems unrelated to other problems experienced. Metal fatigue of the propeller shaft seems the most likely problem which immediately puts the other shaft ‘under a cloud’, so the ship should do no sailings until the cause is known. This places a strong incentive to try and fish for the propeller and stub of shaft if possible – the cost is likely to be more than the replacement cost of the propeller. This is especially if the remaining part of the shaft cannot be removed without dry docking.

I hear that the Marae are complaining about the cost of Insurance for them – like everybody else.

Try this one – All the Marae should get together and self insure – it must be all as collective spread is essential.

There is a calculation method called a “Burning Cost” which can be applied to them to determine each Marae base premium annually. Generally be based on a three year basis

Claims over Premiums x a Ratio to cover such as “Claims Incurred but not reported” (called IBNR) losses under negotiation and expenses.

This not a profitable idea but a Mutual – owned by all the Marae call it MaraeInsure. Particular Marae can make their own terms and retained excesses from this base rate.

Don’t wait for the NZ Post/KiwiBank associate/subsidiary KiwAssure – it will not happen.

NZ is fortunate to have a very large part of our energy needs met by so called renewables .But we are fortunate from a cost point of view, nothing else. His comment that the IEA report says renewables is the fastest growing industry worldwide has to be out of date. It is probably the industry losing money the fastest. He forgets there are currently 1200 coal fired power stations being built around the world. ( Including the Germans building about 20 as fast as they can to avoid energy poverty levels growing and to cover the massive shortfalls resulting from their failed attempt at converting to renewables)
In the UK there is the stupid situation of wind farms building diesel generator plants next to their farms to cover the times when the wind doesn’t blow.
In Australia if the Greenies would shut up for a bit they could reduce their emmisions below the “Kyoto” target levels by just modernising their coal fired power stations with up to date technology. But no the lefties don’t want to know. Blinkers !!

OK, Sammy/Haminda…,if Len moves to apply the $18.40 (actually $23.50) to ALL council employees, that would be a really progressive policy that most Auckland ratepayers would accept.

But that would mean that the definition of ALL. included the Mayor (when Akld gets one), Councillors, their appointees, all executives and managers, including the over puffed Town Clerk. Everyone.

That would be fair, would it not, Sammy?

Obama’s being gay has been mentioned before, but no one ever took it seriously or seemed to care.
A school classmate of Barrack Obama (or Barry Soetoro as he was known then) named Mia Maria Pope confirms that he was gay. Hung out with gays and wasn’t interested in girls. He was even back then a pathological liar and a drug user. Used cocaine etc.

I think it is disgusting as I put up with an inferior service … copper broad band …. at the same price as the superior version.
The commerce commission did good to try and remedy the situation …. but of course the politicians want to upset that becuase it upsets their other plans …. we are getting almost as bad as America.

Money? I’m no fan of Obama, but this story reminds me of the birth certificate saga and has a whiff of conspiracy theory about it. As RB has said, progs need to be defeated on ideological grounds rather than personal attacks. Obama may very well be a Manchurian Candidate but he is also just a symptom of the cancer that is progressivism.

Immigration has got to be a hot topic in the next election.

The Ombudsman’s decision on partners of student and work visa holders being allowed entry means that for universities and language schools, every student they recruit can now bring with them a whole family to gain citizenship.

Next it will be every tourist who buys a ticket to NZ as a reward will get be eligible for citizenship – and their spouses, parents, children, and cousins.

A good start on change would be to give the power of the Ombudsman authority to act only on behalf of existing NZ citizens.

The politicians, the foreign-owned MSM, and supporters like the Palmerson North university guy who sings the multicultural song, are giving the country away.

No Norman was not given a free ride (unlike on his regular-to-the-point-of-being-the-voice-of-the-opposition on Morning Report).

He gave as good as he got and I thought it was very well balanced indeed. He, Bunny McDiarmid from Greenpeace and the gentleman from Gisborne scared the shit out of me, because I know what people like that will do given the chance. But they are very, very attractive to the younger constituents who have not had the benefit of hard life lessons in the real world. Which is why the Greens want to lower the voting age.

My only complaint about ‘The Vote’ is that the final result, which was roughly 55 % against more drilling / mining and 45 % for, would not necessarily be indicative of the nation’s temperature on this issue itself. The poll is an aggregate of the audience (clearly but not purposely stacked – who else is going to be in a studio audience in downtown Auckland at short notice but downtown Aucklanders), Twitterers, Facebookers, visitors to the show’s website and texters, so therefore possibly not that many people over the age of 50.

If the result is indeed indicative then the drilling / mining sector faces an uphill battle should there be a change of government next year, and we’ll be right back to square one in a year or two – i.e. the cupboard will be bare again.

Again, it’s a must see to try and watch on demand as it clearly shows Russell Norman’s raison d’etre in full technicolour

Len Brown he knows full well his chances of finding employment even with his quals and experience are virtually nil. He’s got three pretty young daughters with weddings coming up at some stage to pay for, and a lifestyle in the hills overlooking the slums to maintain.

That’s the real reason he’s not resigning. Three more years of the salary, a few more years and he’s into retirement. Nothing like looking down the cold hard barrel of no income to make you cling onto your job like shit on a scoured calf’s arse.

Obama is a chameleon, he changes colour to suit his environment: Irish, African, American, foreign, Muslim, Christian, dove, hawk, transparent, Executive Order Chief, whatever he needs to get what he wants.

iMP, I don’t think she cited his gayness because of his being gay. It’s more to show that what he is and says aren’t necessarily true. He is not a truthful person. Obama’s being gay has been discussed before by people from his previous Church in interviews; how the Rev Jeremiah Wright match-made people who were gay with members of the opposite sex to give them this respectability. He called it living on the “down low”.

The Down Low Club at Trinity “doesn’t have meetings, and it isn’t like the Rotary Club,” a source identified for this article as “Carolyn” explained to a WND investigator in Chicago.

“It was more that Wright served as a matchmaker,” said Carolyn, a 20-year member of Trinity who has played a role in church administration and knows the Obamas personally.

This is most likely because John Key and National are not paying off a debt they (not the country) owe these companies for helping to keep them in power. “Anadarko was held jointly liable with BP for the Gulf of Mexico blow out in 2010 which spilled an estimated 4.9 million barrels of oil during 87 days after an explosion that killed 11. ”

This is your National/ACT government for you not only do they do want the people do not want them to do (asset sales, welfare reform) they ongoing the people and break NZ law by not going through proper consultation for their projects they are doing as a favor to overseas oil companies. National has always considered themselves above the law, ACT does not even believe the have to follow electoral law during elections. I wonder how much the ‘decision makers’ on these permits are pocketing to bypass the proper legal permitting process?

Ok so I own a couple of Nikon rifle scopes.
One went bung unexpecedly (I didnt smash it)
So I find out I need to send it to USA as that is where I brought it from as its half NZ price so i post it away.
Nikon says I needed to supply a EXPORT license when I sent it to them and they cannot accept it until I supply this.
The fact that they have my scope and have opened it to get my letter and email addy is irrelevant I suppose.
So I ring customs and they point me at MFAT so I find a general link and email. Withing minutes I have a reply with a form, fill it out and bang it back, within a hour I have my license. I am SHOCKED ! 🙂

Lens move to pay a ‘living wage’ is reprehensible.
Who the hell is in charge in this country?
The Government should send him a message about this de facto minimum wage because if they don’t it will spread like wildfire and cripple businesses.
It’s not for the Mayor of Dorkland to impose further financial pressure on the rest of the country.
He should reduce the pay of all those earning over $100,000 pa.They are public servants for gods sake!

With regards to Arafat. The news reports say there is Polonium 210 found. That material has a half life of 138 days. As it is 8 years since he died, That means it has been about 23 half lives. The maths indicate now that the quantities present no would only be 1 ten -millionth of what they were at the time of his death. If it only takes a milligram to kill someone, so it would be so tiny what was now present. Could they really detect that small a quantity or was it spiked recently? The people who did the analysis put very big caveats on it all, especially the chain of custody.
Even if it was the Israelis that did it, how did they kill only him? Why didn’t any others of his staff get affected? The only way would have for them to have used one of Arafat’s personal staff. Rather than Israel, easier to look at who benefitted the most (Occam’s razor). I’m certain any of them could get Polonium from disaffected Russians.
Better to leave it all out there for the tin hat brigade and conspiracy buffs.

Murphy showed up at Mass one Sunday and the priest almost fell down when he saw him. He’d never been to church in his life.

After Mass, the priest caught up with him and said “Murphy, I am so glad ya decided to come to Mass. What made ya come?” Murphy said “I got to be honest with you Father, a while back, I misplaced me hat and I really, really love that hat. I know that McGlynn had a hat just like mine and I knew he came to church every Sunday. I also knew that he had to take off his hat during Mass and figured he would leave it in the back of church. So, I was going to leave after Communion and steal McGlynn’s hat!”

The priest said “Well, Murphy, I notice that ya didn’t steal McGlynn’s hat. What changed your mind?” Murphy replied “Well, after I heard your sermon on the Ten Commandments I decided that I didn’t need to steal McGlynn’s hat after all”.

With a tear in his eye the priest gave Murphy a big smile and said “After I talked about ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ ya decided you would rather do without your hat than burn in hell, eh?” Murphy slowly shook his head. “No, Father, after ya talked about ‘Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery’ I remembered where I left me hat!”

Campbell is bringing to us over the next few days/weeks some very good things that is happening
with educating our kids in the schools.
I am finding it hard to believe, just stunned and fucking speechless.
All this guy has done up till now has run down the education ministry and the minister.
About time for some good news.
