The ultra left wing producers at TVNZ (Watkin et al) are still at it, preparing false information and feeding it to their dilly bint, Street, to fire at J. Key.

This morning John Key, was moved to tell her that what she stated as “fact” was “just not true/correct”…. Not ONCE, but THREE TIMES ….all on the illusory child poverty issue..

Child poverty can be seen and experienced on several Fijian islands

Child poverty does NOT exist in South Auckland or Porirua. Parental neglect is the problem No more, no less.

The new report, called the Child Poverty Monitor, was released this morning.

It shows:

– Twenty five percent, or 265,000, New Zealand children are growing up in poverty.
– 180,000 Kiwi kids are missing out on the things they need, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, visits to the doctor, meals, having a bed and a warm house.
– One in three Maori children are in poverty. It is the same statistic for the Pasifika community.
– Three out of five children in poverty spend seven years or more in poverty.
– Thousands of children from poor neighbourhoods are hospitalised with respiratory disease, such as rheumatic fever, and skin infections, as a result of living in poverty.
– Children born to solo beneficiary parents, which amounted to 60% of those in poverty, were the most likely to get sick or injured.
– Families live off less than 60% of New Zealand’s median income.
– Fifty one percent of children in poverty came from sole parent families.

I agree it is the parent’s responsibility to make sure their children have the basic necessities according to our society’s values. I don’t agree that parents are just not providing them – some might due to issues with drugs and alcohol, but many just don’t because they simply don’t know any better.

We are currently into our third generation of families who lack work ethic, and decent ideals on raising children in some areas. For those second and third generations, they have simply no idea of what is required and which goals they should be aspiring to, regarding bringing up children.

Instead of throwing money at the material problems, we need to accept that although it is the parent’s job to teach future generations they aren’t, all they are teaching them is learned hopelessness. Human Development 101 needs to be part of the education criteria. Teach them what children need, before they have their own.

The Council simply dont want to give that mad woman extra oxygen by picking a fight. She cannot sell he house without paying the rates and if the bill gets too high (including the vast penalties she will be clocking up) then Council will just ask Ms Dims bank to pay it and the bank will pay it without a care in the world.

Ms Dim IS paying her rates (and penalties) she is just to thick to know it.

Not that Penny’s political protest in not paying her rates is my business – its between her and the council as far as I’m concerned and as I haven’t paid rates in Auckland since the 1990’s – ain’t my issue…. but…

I am pretty sure I have read on here that Penny’s home is owned by a trust, not her personally. So, the question should be, as the trust that owns the home Penny resides in paid their rates yet. (Would need to read back to find the post about the trust to be sure, and I can’t be bothered – simply not important enough to me)

I have two very good, and extremely wealthy friends, Sir Douglas Myers and Bob Jones.

Compared to them, I am poor.

The whole problem with this dilly measuring poverty game is what one measures…and what that is compared, is it not?

Adverse relativity is NOT poverty. Do we have relativity differentials? Yep.
The nearest example of REAL child poverty is to be found in the outlying Fijian islands. In NZ there is NO poverty.

Do we have a neglect problem? Yes.

Real poverty in New Zealand ????
Absolute garbage.

If Penny’s home is owned by a trust, and she is living off the income from flatmates, not a benefit, as as she told us recently, does that mean that the trust has been making distributions to her as a beneficiary? And has the trust, which is clearly trading, been paying income tax on the rental received? Is Penny herself paying the trust rent for her use of the property? If not, is the trust a sham? If so, is Penny herself liable to pay income tax on the money she receives from flatmates? If she is, is she deducting the unpaid rates from her assessable income? So many questions, so little point.

The idea that the taxpayer needs to step in to cover for generational deficiencies in parenting grates but you are correct. The horse has bolted as far as the drop kick parents of today but intervention before the present children start breeding is about the only hope for the future.

Problem is that the only organisations with access to the kids are the schools which should be educating the next generation….not bringing it up. Once again the touchy feely socialist teachers will have another crack at producing good little comrades for the NWO.

I hear Norman ( if he is part of the next Govt.) is offering to buy back Meridan shares from those who don’t want to pay the second installment. A few points from this :

1. Since the Greens would be a junior partner in the Government ,if it got in, how can he now make this grand announcement now. Doesn’t Labour have a say ??

2. Has he already bought his printing press ?

3. If somone has paid for the first installment I would presume they have made their own decision already with regard the investment / risk and would not be persuaded by Norman. ( He thinks the Govt could end up with 68% of the shares ).

4. Even IF they they got into Govt. and went ahead with this “buy back” what is the difference between 51% and 68% ?
( yes there are some more dividends but there is an interest cost on the more used to buy back)

If we want to get rid of these problems (and poverty isn’t the only one) then we have to find a way of impressing on ALL children the skills and ideals that are required. We have to accept that there are lousy parents out there that are simply not going to do it. If we want this to be a better country, then we have to do it for them.

I am not talking about feeding and clothing the children, I”m talking about teaching them life skills – child rearing skills budgeting etc.

Look at the stats.The hint is children born into that fashionable new category of family.2 of the 8 factors relate to solo parents.

The breakdown of traditional values and institutions in western society is at the heart of this leftist, manufactured crisis.

And the answer to the problem ,from the leftists who have created it? More state intervention.

Haven’t they done enough damage?

The fact is, that the last two generations have had no role modelling, except bad ones (in the homes we are talking about).

I thank my parent’s for giving me all the basic skills in life – they taught me how to budget (and now money is not a big issue for me), they taught me how to set goals, and boundaries, and manners – (all which have ensured I’ve had the drive to obtain good skills and qualifications, and know what to do to get the things I want). They taught me what I was going to face in life – I wasn’t allowed to drive before I could change the oil in the car – and they made damn sure I knew what was required in having children, by making me babysit other peoples kids. They set me up for life giving me those skills – today, the kids we are talking about aren’t taught that, because their parent’s weren’t taught that.

If we continue to point the finger at those responsible, we will always be having this same conversation. Someone is going to have to get off their butt and make some unpopular policy – and I don’t mean feed the kids (that won’t work).

It’s obviously not an easy problem to resolve when half of those kids deemed to be in ‘poverty’ are in sole parent families.

The State cannot make birth control compulsory, nor can it make two parent families compulsory. Taxing some people more, reducing pensions and increasing benefits is not going to address the core issues – there’s a possibility it will make the single parent family more attractive and therefore make the problem worse.

Certainly left leaning governments were responsible for creating welfare based societies including graduated tax regimes to provide for health care.
It was rightist governments like National here and e.g the Conservatives in the UK that were responsible not only for their maintenance and indeed in some instances their expansion The DPP is a good example of this.
The breakdown of Western values has more to do with the decline of Religious beliefs , values and observance and the rise of secularism in its place.
It is a far more complex phenomena than your Libertarian , left vs right based mantras would try to suggest.

The kids are here now, can’t be sent back, so what do we do?

We don’t give solo parent’s state houses unless they share with another solo parent. So they can jointly child care, and job share.

IF young women get pregnant whilst school age, they don’t get benefit unless they continue to attend school and qualify.

We don’t close down schools at 3.30 – we have billions of dollars of assets being unused, so we make the unemployed attend classes at night school – if they don’t, they don’t get their benefit. We make the unemployed work in the creche’s whilst the young mothers attend classes that teach them what they need to provide their children…. and so on.

So, what do we do about that?

We make the couple (providing violence isn’t involved) take six months to separate – that is for six months the get assistance to try and work it out – assistance can be budgeting assistance, parenting skills, etc. Then if after six months there is no fixing the relationship – we will offer financial assistance for the children.

One of the worst policies we have is giving welfare to couples the day after they separate – there is no incentive to try. No immediate payment on relationship breakdown – (unless violence) –

I cannot fault your vision…. but, just for arguments sake, …. are we talking fences at the top, or ambulances at the bottom????

Never, ever, has every man been equal with every other man. Those with the biggest biceps, and biggest clubs, ruled stone age man. They got the most food, the best caves, the most attractive women, and had the most slaves. There was inequality then, and nothing has changed.

Branches of Christianity have sought change and equality, but few practitioners (perhaps excluding some Jesuits) practiced what they preached. The modern example, Marxism, was/is really about power in all its forms , not economic equality. Fascism was as much driven by a desire for equality in output, as it was by obscene racial and other policies. But the underlying objective was always power, and personal wealth by expropriation.
Socialism, circa 2013/14, is still about power.

All any decent society can do, IMV, is to give everyone an opportunity. Equality of opportunity will vary according to where one starts. But never, ever, will there be equality in outcomes. To achieve equality in outcomes would require a regime, and policies, that do not warrant consideration.

And so we will continue – going around and around, but never reaching a conclusion acceptable to all. 🙂

And solo parents who have never lived as a couple in a meaningful relationship.

In the old days (not that long ago) most teenage boys who got a girl pregnant were pretty much made to marry and live as a couple. Now a significant number of boys and men never live in a meaningful or responsible family relationship.

If they aren’t inclined to care for their progeny in the best way possible then maybe they are best to remain separated from their kids. Males who root with no intention of taking any responsibility are a major factor in the solo parent and ‘poverty’ problems.

Legislation and tax won’t make a male be a decent Dad.

In the criminal offences context you’re coming to people who are very strongly motivated to put themselves across in the best possible light to everyone involved in the process including their own lawyer. This doesn’t mean you’re not astute enough to see through disingenuity Judith it simply means you’re seeing them in that context.

Getting yourself and your family out of poverty (and no-one else is going to do it), IMO, is a combination of education and also spiritual values. I don’t mean religious values and readers please don’t assume that. I mean values like self-discipline, courage, determination, integrity, self-worth, tenacity, ability to defer self-gratification and all of those things. Without those values operating inside of oneself, one will always give up when the going gets hard, one will always indulge oneself when it comes to the choice of paying for the school trip or buying oneself a new computer game from the man at the pub, etc.

The education takes care of the head-space, the instillation of proper and correct values takes care of the heart. Both of those are equally important and unless and until we provide them with both through whatever means necessary, nothing will change.

But the problem is, as I’ve said many times here, one side of the political spectrum insists on playing up incorrect values because without them they will get no votes. So they pretend that these people are not broken on the inside, they pretend instead that they are whole but suppressed by hidden external forces which the politicians will fight on their behalf.

If conservatives had any idea what they were doing they would go public on this tactic because people aren’t stupid. What I’ve said above is a universal truth, one that everyone regardless of intellect intuitively knows, and the way to stop it from being practiced is to surface from the subconscious to the conscious mind. The possession and practice of those above values is the ONLY thing that separates the poor from the average middle-class and the wealthy and the extent to which one practices them governs the extent of the wealth one gathers over a lifetime. (There are other values in addition to those above, they are simple exemplars to give the flavour. You know what I mean.)

But will that happen? Unless and until it does, nothing will change. It’s a shame the Children’s Commissioner doesn’t do some research into those values in terms of who possesses them and who doesn’t, isn’t it.

Judith, I agree that some parents need to be re-educated, monitored and controlled so that they do a better job of raising their children. The problem is how do you control such authority?

People are not all the same; half of them are of below-average intelligence.

How do we install a common-sense enforcement program that will discriminate between those who can parent properly and those who can’t?

Just as an aside, I wonder if any research has been conducted to identify the vested interests in NZ society who benefit from having a significant population of needy, helpless people?

/Rant mode ON/ I feel that the morality of a system is measured in its outcome. If money has been fed into a system for years, and the problem has not been reduced, then something may be wrong with the system. In fact, by “growing” the problem, the system itself could be said to be immoral. It’s the old story: the more you do for people, the less they do for themselves. /Rant mode OFF/

The Federal Reserve’s cult of secrecy is unmasked

The recent audit of the Federal Reserve by the Government Accountability Office is particularly disturbing if read alongside the last report to Congress by the Fed’s Inspector General.

The GAO audit found a huge number of serious conflicts of interest at the Fed. Employees and contractors were allowed to own stock in the companies receiving financial assistance from the central bank.

The Government Accountability Office determined the Fed’s policies were too weak to mitigate the harm to the taxpayers that could result of these widespread conflicts of interest. When the conflicts of interest were so blindingly obvious that they could not be ignored, the Fed simply waived them.

The Fed has its own internal watchdog, the Office of Inspector General. That office somehow managed to fail to notice any of these problems in its most recent report to Congress. As with the GAO audit, you’ve already paid for it through your taxes, so feel free to download a copy from this URL:

In short, the Federal Reserve’s Inspector General’s Office is lap dog, not a watchdog.

Inspector General Elizabeth A. Coleman, who has subsequently retired from the position, either didn’t notice the grave inadequacies uncovered by the GAO audit or didn’t think that they were worthy of mention. If you dig deep enough, long enough, you will find some hair-raising revelations on other matters, however. The Inspector General tucked away some seriously worrying revelations about bank inspections out of sight in the body of the report.

It’s not just education, it’s a will to be a good parent. People who want to be good parents do their best to become good parents.

In the old days most young people who became parents took a crash course in parenting. I did, and like many people I succeeded pretty well, I’m very proud of how my kids turned out. I had no parenting education at all.

How can education make young males in particular responsible and willing parents? Love 101?

Child Poverty – I had a crack at the ever expanding green leader on twitter. I got this back:

“Neo liberal economic theory has dominated our country for nearly 30 years. IT FAILED OUR KIDS. Don’t lecture me on who’s useless.”

This is Dimes view:

I’m 37. I grew up in West Auckland. Growing up I guess I was amongst the first generation that had kids growing up for their entire childhood on welfare. I know people knows parents have never worked. They are now over 65.

Then you get to my generation. Id say half of my friends/acquaintances had never worked by age 20. Amongst those, the girls were the “rich ones”. They had kids and the DPB. Every second Wednesday (i think), it was all go. They would buy drinks for everyone etc

Fast forward to age 30. Most of the guys from the original slacker group had some sort of low paying job by now. Most of the girls were still happy on the DPB. Usually living with different guys at different times, never going off the benefit.

Fast forward to present day, a bunch of those girls are still on welfare. Never worked. At age 37. One recently got a job (cause of mean national), shes all proud of herself but still hates national…

So, their kids are now 18 or older. some already have kids. the younger ones are planning their next tattoos. Quiz the parents and the kids seem to have no intention to go onto further study. cant wait to leave school etc

after reading that, can someone tell me how “right wing economics” is to blame?

its starts with a lazy generation and then growing up to believe they are entitled to free money, forever.

Oh yeah, they all resent the rich. they all say things like “its ok for you dime, youre rich”. to which i reply “yeah, it all just fell into my lap!”

Of course we will never be equal, never have been. The other fact is, people become parents who don’t really want to be parents – many are just playing the game. Which is why we need to teach young people, right from little children, what is involved in being a parent (not from their own parents example, because sadly that is a poor one for many).

I know all the arguments, we shouldn’t have to, it’s not our job, and so on … but the fact is, if we don’t the next generation will be the same, having babies for a meal ticket, not raising them with any sense of self-sufficiency or work ethic and it will keep happening.

I would say that every single person that posts on here is a good parent, and does their best – but we just have to accept that there are a heap of people that don’t share, or don’t know the values we do. There are those that quite simply DON’T think it through and realise that they are not doing it right, especially those that were dragged up the same way.

If you get a girl pregnant, it will cost you X amount out of your pay each year for 18-19 years.

You show them how much taxes the country is paying to support that child and it’s mother.

And ask him – is a shag without a condom really worth that amount. Tell them when they are 13 – before they become sexually active.

Family falls through the gaps

Welfare groups are helping a Christchurch mother and her three children move into a tent in a public park because they cannot find the family a home.

From today, Maori wardens will stand guard 24 hours a day to provide Nellie Hunt and her children some security at their tent in Waltham Park.

The family was served with a 90-day eviction notice in September when their landlord decided to sell their Waltham rental home.

Today is day 90.

Over the past three months the agencies set up to protect people in difficult situations have exhausted all options and say Hunt has “fallen through the gaps”.

Hunt said: “In all my days I did not think it would come to this. I don’t know what we are going to do.

“I just want a home for me and my three babies and I feel like I have failed them badly. It is the worst feeling in the world.”

The single mother has been on the Housing New Zealand waiting list for months. She has applied and been rejected by dozens of rental homes and three different social agencies have combed the city for accommodation without success

Kiwi blogger Trevor Loudon points out on his blog today that the communists in South Africa have admitted Nelson Mandela’s leadership role. Loudon reports, “Mandela wasn’t just a member of the Moscow-controlled party. Hunt on for reformed ex-prisoners

It might be the last thing a reformed criminal wants to hear – the Corrections Department is on your trail.

It’s keen to track down young former prisoners who have successfully turned their lives around, in the hope that they can help others to follow the straight and narrow.

The department has tendered for a third party to find 50 former high-risk inmates who have not reoffended for at least three years, despite having being assessed as being likely to do so.

It wants to find out what has kept the young people, aged between 17 to 20 at the time of their imprisonment and who had been in jail more than once, out of prison since, and how they can help current and future prisoners do the same.

The successful tenderer will be given a list of 80 names, including the most recent contact details for each former prisoner.

It is hoped at least 50 will be found, and will agree to an hour-long interview for which they will be paid $50.

i was on facebook a couple of months ago and a pic of a guy i know popped up. he was wearing the same hoodie he was wearing when i used to see him all the time – about 4 years ago. then it dawned upon me, a new hoodie is a major purchase for someone like him. how fucking sad is that?

then i see FB posts of the unemployed people i know.. aged 30+. it will be pics of them drinking on a tuesday afternoon “best day ever” etc

none have been for job interviews for years. everyone thinks it sucks rich people dont pay enough tax and that the govt is stingy. (i know, i run in some dodgy circles).

course, you listen to the greens, these people are all saints.

I suspect that Polynesian culture (which has its origins in SE Asia) would respond very well to a “haji”-based program. It would certainly push the behavoral buttons buried deep down in their subconscious.

You can Google “haji” yourself and see what you come up with. (A word of caution: “haji” can be a double-edged sword, and can be quite inhibiting and anti-individualistic in practice in Japan.)

I too would’ve taken key protesters & not brought them back. I’m sure they could do more on the ground than they could from 1/2 a world away.

Critics doubt effect of speed campaign

Experts are taking aim at police plans to target speeding drivers over summer, saying the campaign will hit “mums and dads” but miss those who cause most fatal accidents.

Police will have a reduced tolerance of 4kmh above the official speed limit over December and January. During that period last year there were 416 serious injuries on New Zealand roads, including 57 deaths.

Road safety campaigner Clive Matthew-Wilson said the campaign was aimed at “happy holiday families”.

However, research had shown fatal accidents were far more often caused by substance abusers, tired drivers, highly reckless drivers, the very young and the very old.

“All five of these groups are largely immune to road safety messages because they believe they’re already doing OK.”

Assistant commissioner of road policing Dave Cliff said research showed focusing on a lower speeding tolerance had a major impact on all levels of road trauma.

Most drivers would heed the message to slow down and would not be ticketed, he said.

But Matthew-Wilson said about 80 per cent of fatalities occurred at speeds below the legal limit.

Massey University marketing lecturer Dr Terry Macpherson said the Government had overstated the role advertising played in lowering the road toll

A dairy farming couple say they have gone into debt “up to our eyeballs” to buy their own farm to avoid the risk of encountering another “mongrel” owner as sharemilkers.

This is because Inland Revenue has taken a strict line with migrant workers’ salary packages.

“Immigration NZ will not view the accommodation and perks as part of the salary package, yet IRD require us to tax employees on it. Immigration only looks at the cash portion.

“Within our business we are considering paying a higher salary and then making our staff rent houses under a conventional tenancy agreement instead of just a ‘perk of the job’. This will enable us to charge full market value for perks [accommodation, milk, meat, internet, electricity etc] which will in turn create more admin work for us and push our costs even higher!”

Louise Giltrap, who farms in Northland with husband Geoff, says their bad experiences are not unique.

“There’s a bigger percentage that would be bad employers than there are good in the dairy industry,” she said

Milk production high despite drought

Milk production fell just 1.6 per cent during the year despite the season being shortened by drought.

The country’s cows produced 1.66 billion kilograms of milksolids in the 2012-13 season, Livestock Improvement Corporation and DairyNZ annual figures show.

That meant dairy companies processed 18.9 billion litres of milk last season, down slightly from last year’s record levels but above levels two years before.

DairyNZ senior economist Matthew Newman said the dip was minimised by a rise in cow numbers, a good spring and a strong season in Canterbury, Otago and Southland.

He said farmers managing to get through the drought with minimal impact was testimony to their resilience.

It does no such bloody thing.

The sheila has a wage and hundreds of taxpayer dollars paid to her each week.

This has nothing to do with poverty and everything to do with landlord discretion. The story (deliberately?) makes no mention of why she has been turned away nor why she was content to live in a badly damaged house in a slum-type area of the city. I suspect it is because she has a habit of not paying her rent or damaging/allowing to be damaged houses she has been rented in the past.

She doesnt need to be receiving distributions to be living off the Trust, it could be a repayment of her loan to the Trust ( providing she hasnt already gifted it all, if so , then the IRD may view the payments as distributions).

Your second line is contradictory

Your third line of her paying Trust rent..may have a tax avoidence issue,

Your fourth line of the Trust being a sham is just plain ridiculous ( People living in the house owned by a Trust is extremely common)

three or four boarders $250 each for the first two boarders, and
$204 for each subsequent boarder.

And they do not have to pay board to the Trust

😐 Far out, is it Let them eat Cake day on here or something?

I generally get at least 3-4 years out of things like warm jerseys & hoodies etc.

It helps me pay the mortgage, feed the kids well, etc…

I wouldn’t shop at Farmers for clothes, simply because the quality is no better than the sort of stuff The Warehouse sells, the price is simply higher.

I am pretty sure that Penny’s house won’t be owned by a trust.

She is not the kind of person who would take that step. So the whole question of the nature of the trust would become irrelevant.

I suspect that transferring the property to a trust would be problematic as if she is not paying rates/water rates there would be charging orders piling up on top of each other.

A simple title search would show the position as it is a matter of public record.

My in-laws have resorted to hiring foreign labour such is the shocking lineup of drunks and druggies that they have employed over the years.

Kiwis don’t want to know when it comes to hard or menial labour. Yet we get all racist and economically nationalistic when foreign labour pours in.
