Not content with a pretty obvious perception that he is trying to purchase political influence, Dotcom is now giving the finger to the justice system. His attitude towards privacy is hypocritical. He slapped a gagging order on his former head of security last week, after unilaterally breaching the confidentiality agreement he had with Wayne Tempero. He complained yesterday of disgruntled former staff speaking to the media. And yet he will not hesitate to breach court-ordered suppression orders or other confidential information if it suits him.

The sooner that Dotcom’s extradition case is heard, the better for New Zealand.

I didn’t watch the cricket but saw highlights this morning. I could not help thinking that we simply do not have the smarts to win cutting-edge matches. In any sort of contest, you would not back Ronchi against Steyn. Nor would you back McCullum (N) against Steyn. You would however back Taylor to give it a bloody good go. Why then, did he only get the opportunity on ball number 6?

Male Labour MPs have few reasons to like women in the House and gay men don’t like women much anyway so it’s too good an opportunity for Cunliffe and Robertson to pass up to lash National women cabinet ministers in public.
Cunliffe was shouting abuse this morning on Morning Report. He sounded out of control in his vitriol.
We don’t hear much these days from Labour women MPs. It’s a pity they don’t speak up more often as I am sure there are many women uneasy about the treatment Collins and Parata are getting, sadly a lot of it sexist.
John Key always treated Helen Clark with courtesy and respect (as he does everyone). Cunliffe should try to follow his example.
It’s time he started to sound like a prime minister not a shrieking harpy.

He did introduce himself with a condolence to the NZ families of the plane tragedy.

Sadly it came across simply as a rehearsed ,cold fake formality,a soundbite, before the vitriol as you put it.

Cunners quite simply is a sound bite.An empty one.

Being something less than an oil painting myself, I still think that BeaB has a very good point.

Adhern apart, those labour females must be the ugliest collection of socialists, in one place and at any one time, on earth.

Forget the airbrushed PR pix. Check the TV reality show. It is worse than the a Dracula show. Walking with dinosaurs would be more attractive.. 🙂

Sport often comes down to one person standing up and making a game winning difference. Ross Taylor is one the best batsmen in the world, Steyn is one of the best bowlers. Steyn won this battle. Good on him.

For a bit of enlightenment, or maybe entertainment, go to Whale Oil and some other message boards when Jacinda Ardern says something.

And my generalisations in response to your comment “We don’t hear much these days from Labour women MPs…”

The rank and ignorant comments from the right when Labour women MPs get in the news demonstrate misogynist, prehistoric attitudes to women. Further analysis is needed to establish why the notion of a jack-booted, leather clad, whip holding Judith Collins type pleases them so while Ardern is seen as such a threat.

I have seen those myself many times. As someone on the Right I find them disgusting and have never made such comments myself. That said, it occurs on both the Right AND the Left in what seems like equal measure.

I oppose quality between men and women. Any women who aspires to mere equality with men is selling herself short.

The following may display I haven’t quite grasped the Dotcom / Mana concept of a “component party”, but then who the hell has, since it seems to not be the intent of the law as it stands – that was apparently written for Parties parting, not uniting.
Yep, what Dotcom / Mana plan is an arse-about face long shot

However, if it is legal, why don’t National, ACT and the Conservative Party form a similar alliance [sic] with National offering Electorate Candidates and the grouped parties having a combined Part List, with final appointments made to reflect …
oh, shit! … that’s where it seems to fall apart :
… no individual party vote for individual parties
so how would you allot List Seats, as I was going to say,
to reflect the party votes for each component party,
which you won’t have … ?
OK … well, that may be a little bit fucked then

So how will Mana and Dotcom allocate List Seats when they won’t have a Party Vote for either individual party to figure that out, because that is the intent of List Seats to start with?

Is the concept legal? And will an ensuing court case take the Election result well into 2015?

Let’s talk about ‘balding but in denial’, ‘which hair products best disguise my bald patch’ or ‘I’m not comfortable with how I look’ ?

Or maybe – the increasing girth of top MP’s?

How about ‘how to be kiwi but talk like I was born in a Texas bar’?

FFS, whilst I accept there is a degree of role modelling regarding ‘healthy’ practices, that perhaps our MP’s could pay a little more attention to – to resort to demeaning physical attributes/traits is pretty damn childish – and unless your own political preference is picture perfect, its also a pretty stupid debate to get into.

My subject matter is:

1) An update on four complaints that I filed with Police:

a) Alleged money-laundering against Mayor Len Brown.

b) Alleged bribery and corruption against Mayor Len Brown (a joint complaint with fellow community Public Watchdog Lisa
Prager).

c) Alleged contravention of statute by former Auckland Council CEO, Doug McKay.

d) Alleged assault against Auckland Council Officers who forcibly removed me from the CEO Review Committee meeting after
I was denied speaking rights by Chair Chris Fletcher, when I was attempting to expose, (in my considered opinion), a
corrupt ‘conflict of interest’ involving current CEO Stephen Town.

2) The lack of statutory protection for ‘anti-corruption whistle-blowers’ who are not employees.

3) The failure of both Auckland Council, and statutory ‘Public Watchdogs’ to ensure that the RULE OF LAW regarding ‘open, transparent and democratically-accountable’ local government – particularly statutory duties arising from s. 17 of the Public Records Act 2005, is upheld:

Key does connect with ordinary folk because for all his dosh he has an easy camaraderie that frustrates the elite but is real newzild. That keeps voters from the crossing the line to Labour or coming out of non-voting to oust National.

At a first meeting Cunliffe has attractive charm: intelligent, personable and not bad with the gab. Many will meet him for the first time in the first leaders debate and elsewhere on the campaign trail. That could make up some percentage points. Add in 1 or 2 per cent from a campaign targeted at 2008 and 2011 non-voters. At his best, Cunliffe could get Labour-Greens there.

But note that “at his best”. For most of his six months so far Cunliffe has not been at the sort of best required of a modern leader. If the next six months are no better and he condemns Labour to “nine long years” in opposition, he is unlikely to be leader for long after September.

Obama is scrapping one of the United States’ most effective weapons in war.

President Barack Obama is seeking to abolish two highly successful missile programs that experts say has helped the U.S. Navy maintain military superiority for the past several decades.

The Tomahawk missile program—known as “the world’s most advanced cruise missile”—is set to be cut by $128 million under Obama’s fiscal year 2015 budget proposal and completely eliminated by fiscal year 2016, according to budget documents released by the Navy.

In addition to the monetary cuts to the program, the number of actual Tomahawk missiles acquired by the United States would drop significantly—from 196 last year to just 100 in 2015. The number will then drop to zero in 2016.

The Navy will also be forced to cancel its acquisition of the well-regarded and highly effective Hellfire missiles in 2015, according to Obama’s proposal.

The proposed elimination of these missile programs came as a shock to lawmakers and military experts, who warned ending cutting these missiles would significantly erode America’s ability to deter enemy forces.

“The administration’s proposed budget dramatically under-resources our investments in munitions and leaves the Defense Department with dangerous gaps in key areas, like Tomahawk and Hellfire missiles,” said Rep. Randy Forbes (R., Va.), a member of House Armed Services Committee.

“It doesn’t make sense,” said Seth Cropsey, director of the Hudson Institute’s Center for American Seapower. “This really moves the U.S. away from a position of influence and military dominance.”

Cropsey said that if someone were trying to “reduce the U.S. ability to shape events” in the world, “they couldn’t find a better way than depriving the U.S. fleet of Tomahawks. It’s breathtaking.”

The Navy has used various incarnations of the Tomahawk with great success over the past 30 years, employing them during Desert Storm and its battle zones from Iraq and Afghanistan to the Balkans.

Navy experts and retired officials fear that the elimination of the Tomahawk and Hellfire systems—and the lack of a battle-ready replacement—will jeopardize the U.S. Navy’s supremacy as it faces increasingly advanced militaries from North Korea to the Middle East.

The cuts are “like running a white flag up on a very tall flag pole and saying, ‘We are ready to be walked on,’” Cropsey said.

Bill Clinton has come out against Obama’s giving away the keys to the internet.

Count former President Bill Clinton among those who are skeptical of the new Obama administration plan to give up Internet oversight authority.

Clinton talked in some detail about why the U.S. should retain oversight over Internet domain names and addresses during a panel at a weekend meeting sponsored by the Clinton Global Initiative.

Noting that the Edward Snowden revelations of National Security Agency data collections has given “new energy” to the belief internationally that the U.S. should not even be in “nominal control of domain names,” Clinton argued that the U.S. has still done a pretty good job of keeping the Internet open and free.

“A lot of people … have been trying to take this authority from the U.S. for the sole purpose of cracking down on Internet freedom and limiting it and having governments protect their backsides instead of empowering their people,” Clinton said during a panel discussion Friday night.

Looking at the readers’ comments, she’s getting almost no sympathy.
And from the look of the plan in her hand, the section must be 600-800 sq metres.
There are huge number of HNZ houses in the Auckland area built on sections of that size, and most of them seem to be covered almost entirely with rarely-mown grass.
HNZ’s right size policy is perfectly reasonable and sensible. It could yield spaces for thousands of new homes.

Registered sex offender, Ali Jaffari, accused of attempted child-stealing, has had all charges against him dropped after a Magistrate told prosecutors he would have trouble finding Jaffari guilty.

Magistrate Ron Saines said if he was hearing the matter, he would have reasonable doubt, citing ‘cultural differences’ as one factor, which would result in the charges being dismissed.

@mandk:: I don’t know why newspapers print sad “we’re being done over by the government” family stories.

Because usually when you dig into the story and look critically at the broader scenario we find that the sad family have only themselves to blame or that a greater good is being done.

Why didn’t they print the other side of the story about a homeless family looking for accommodation because they are sleeping in a garage or a caravan. I imagine they would agree to swap situations in an instant.

The sort of people who haven’t taken any notice of Cunliffe are the sort of people who DO NOT watch the leaders debate. A performance on the debate is not going to help him much if hasn’t come up with the goods before then.

You are asking some very interesting questions re Mana/ Dot Com. I am hoping someone with more knowledge than me will answer them for you, because I’d be interested to read them. If what you think they are up to, is legal then it opens a real “can of worms” and as you say on another post why wouldn’t the Nats work with the Conservatives for example to ensure the latter gets over the line.

Easily. My property is stolen through compulsory taxation. My right to freedom of association is violated through various “human rights” laws. My right to trade my labour and property is violated through trade restrictions. My ability to save and create wealth is violated through government fiat currency. My freedom is oppressed through an ever growing list of laws and regulations that create constant moral hazard. My right to work on, add value to and dispose of my land is oppressed through a myriad of local body regulations. That’s just a short list. There are many other examples.

This paranoid drivel is easily repudiated. Take e.g ” My property is stolen though compulsory taxation..” The cry of the American Colonists representative assemblies was” No Taxation without parliamentary consent ” an important cry that helped trigger the American war of Independence. A fatuous argument if there ever was one. In other words the answer for you lies in the ballot box come 20th September. As it does with other kinds of regulations that you inanely claim are allegedly “oppressing” or “stealing “from you. If you don’t like it then get out there and form a political association to change things.
But I do note how poorly Libertarianism such as yours has been received by the voting public , whether in its more diluted ACT or undiluted Libertariannz form ( the later 0.005% of the popular vote in 2011 ). Just as poorly ( if not worse ) than the tired old communist or Socialist Unity parties.

So what? Why am I bound to their understanding of compulsory taxation? You have still failed to deal with the issue of theft, and simply hide that failure in inane drivel about the US revolution or imaginary documents like the mythical social contract.

So? Maybe, maybe not. There are many ways to change things over time. The ballot box merely changes one set of thieves and tyrants for another.

Taxation Is Robbery.

THE Encyclopaedia Britannica defines taxation as “that part of the revenues of a state which is obtained by the compulsory dues and charges upon its subjects.” That is about as concise and accurate as a definition can be; it leaves no room for argument as to what taxation is. In that statement of fact the word “compulsory” looms large, simply because of its ethical content. The quick reaction is to question the “right” of the State to this use of power. What sanction, in morals, does the State adduce for the taking of property? Is its exercise of sovereignty sufficient unto itself?

On this question of morality there are two positions, and never the twain will meet. Those who hold that political institutions stem from “the nature of man,” thus enjoying vicarious divinity, or those who pronounce the State the keystone of social integrations, can find no quarrel with taxation per se; the State’s taking of property is justified by its being or its beneficial office. On the other hand, those who hold to the primacy of the individual, whose very existence is his claim to inalienable rights, lean to the position that in the compulsory collection of dues and charges the State is merely exercising power, without regard to morals.

The present inquiry into taxation begins with the second of these positions. The alternative is to accept military rulers and ban Islamist parties or allow Islamist parties to take over the state and end democracy (religious leaders seeing any resistance to their rule as a blasphemy against their God)

Either way the government is killing political opponents amongst the people. Democracy is based on people co-existing.

Murphy, a furniture dealer from Dublin, decided to expand the line of furniture in his store, so he decided to go to Paris to see what he could find.

He tried to speak to her in English, but she did not speak his language. After a couple of minutes of trying to communicate with her, he took a napkin and drew a picture of a wine glass and showed it to her. She nodded, so he ordered a glass of wine for her.

After sitting together at the table for a while, he took another napkin, and drew a picture of a plate with food on it, and she nodded. They left the bistro and found a quiet cafe that featured a small group playing romantic music.

They ordered dinner, after which he took another napkin and drew a picture of a couple dancing. She nodded, and they got up to dance. They danced until the cafe closed and the band was packing up.

Back at their table, the young lady took a napkin and drew a picture of a four-poster bed.

To this day, Murphy has no idea how she figured out he was in the furniture business.

Seems the famous British knack for being able successfully to assimilate ourselves into native populations under occupation unlike the US who just go and blast everyone and everything to smithereens at every single little chance they get, is history. Which He can, griff, simply by reading, understanding and quoting from His word.

God is God is God.

He exists as a spiritual entity independent of anyone and everyone. He is not the creation of anyone’s imagination and He is certainly not a creation of any church on Earth.

It is our duty to understand Him and obey Him and that’s not easy but it’s also not difficult.

Getting those above basic principles wrong is why many make fundamental mistakes about it.

For example, do you know precisely what the Bible says about sex? In context? Every word of it? If you don’t then don’t bother listening to what any church says about it, because how do you know they’re correct?

Find out for yourself if you’re interested, then listen to a church and compare what they say to what you know.

Same with any other subject.

Or risk death.

Why don’t you drive google and find out whether or not that assertion is true SPC. Don’t forget to read both sides from the results, not just one.

Incidentally the point you make about men writing the Bible is well made. While inspired there have been aberrations and one of the worst is the Schofield Bible in the US which is why a lot of Americans are so [wrongly] obsessed with the rapture. However if you’re a genuine seeker of wisdom you need to be discerning and while many Bible editions are good, largely, the very very best edition is the Geneva Bible which predates the King James, which is generally considered by most of the English speaking world to be very good if not definitive, however it contains distortions introduced by that king for reasons you might want to research if you’re interested, which the Geneva Bible doesn’t have.

My quibble is not with translations, but the idea that there ever has been or is a bible that represents the word of God from God to man. These works are the claim of men to have knowledge of God. They only have knowledge of their own works which they pose as the word of God.

Ultimately the concept of one breeding pair of all kinds is in conflict with evolution where each kind emerges in its own time. This is the logos concept whereby these occur in their time – this is a more nuanced understanding of creation. Just as interpretation is based on more than believing what one reads, literalism is for children and so is belief in stories that are not true.

SGA of course it has and so what? Science does not disprove God, it proves Him. The great fallacy of our modern era is that God’s work is not inherent in the architecture of the discoveries we make. Look at the Fibonacci Sequence for example. Does the mere fact we’ve discovered that mean that there is a design in nature, or that there isn’t? Same with everything else from particle physics to astrophysics to biology and everything else. Every scientific discovery we make we uncover more and more design tolerances that have created us and the world around us and we understand with each discovery that less and less chance exists that all of this came about by mere chance.

In fact the number of people on KB who claim one moment to have no “sky faerie” and then the next are arguing for faith in the Divinity of the State based on a mythical document called “the social contract” which nobody has ever seen is just plain hilarious.

Talk about a lack of self-awareness! 🙂

At least my “sky faerie” can actually get Himself published! 🙂
