Between things like this and the “not available in your country” bullshit, YouTube really does get tiresome at times. Did they even really investigate the copyright claim before pulling the video?

Has this reporter got it right – it’s actually from, ick, The Mirror:

David Cameron’s spin doctors were left red-faced today after an attack ad branding Jeremy Corbyn a threat to national security was pulled from YouTube.

It was pulled from the video sharing site and from Facebook this morning, after claims they’d used footage in the clip without permission.

The scaremongering clip, released on Monday, pieces together what the Tories see as the left-winger’s most dangerous statements.

It lists, blissfully free of context, a time he declared the assassination of Osama Bin Laden a “tragedy” and his desire to “dismantle the armed forces.”

The copyright claim is over a clip of a meeting of the Stop The War coalition, during which Corbyn refers to his ‘friends in Hezbollah’ and ‘friends from Hamas’.

The complaint was submitted by Adrian Cousins, a freelance videographer who filmed the event.

Context free? Where would politically damaging quotes come from if not for that?

Also, that link seems to have the advertisement embedded in it.

I cant quite believe I am saying this…does he not have a point when he asks why Britain needs aircraft carriers to give it “global reach”? It’s a long time since mother Britain had an empire to protect…there’s the Falklands, I suppose…

Have you not argued there are enemies determined to destroy the UK and it’s way of life, who have financiers and supporters in other countries? Do you not think if you believe that and that the UK ought be prepared to fight such enemies the UK would then have a need to project the power with which to fight?

If the UK is allied with greater Europe it has less need of carriers, but the UK is decidedly uncommitted to union and guaranteed alliance with all of Europe. If their policies were to diverge and transit, support and refuelling across Europe not guaranteed how would the UK press it’s interests or aid other allies at a remove?

It wouldn’t be an entirely silly idea to save cash by not maintaining something so expensive, but it would require a substantially different foreign policy for the UK.

The Conservatives under Camoron accusing Corbyn of being a threat to national security ?

That’s rich coming from the party of the PM who helped destabilise Libya whence hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants poured into Europe. He then sent the RN to pick them up. A clear signal to the millions of others in Turkey to give it a go.

And why were they in Turkey, again Camoron is complicit with other western leaders and the Sunni dictators of the Gulf in destabilising Syria and creating the mess that is now in Europe.

The elites who make up our permanent ruling classes really are complete fuck wits.

Hypocrite Conservatives.

You have global reach because other countries have global reach, simple as that.

You have independent military capability because you cannot ever be completely certain that you are always going to agree with your friends, partners, and allies, or they with you, or that they are always going to be in a position to help even if there is no disagreement.

You have nukes because other countries have nukes, and because giving up your nukes is rank stupidity. It didn’t work out very well for Ukraine, now did it?

Imagine Israel giving up her nukes. Or India.

In 1935 the British Labour Party very nearly succeeded in bringing about the disbandment of the RAF. In 1981 Britain was Argentina’s single most important trading partner. Today there are supposedly rational people calling for Trident to be scrapped.

There are excuses for all sorts of things in politics, but there is never an acceptable excuse for historical short-sightedness.

Just saying.

Corbyn comes across as a genial, somewhat old-fashioned and generally rational bloke- rather like our own John Minto, who is a very low-key and pleasant chap in the flesh. But scrape just a little way beneath that pleasant veneer and you rapidly come to the toxic nuttiness that lies beneath the skin. Such people are essentially unhappy folk who gather around them similarly sad and bitter supporters.

I don’t think they need to do this. He will prove this himself and it just looks a bit desperate like they are panicking. Besides wouldn’t they want the guy in charge as long as possible so they can face him in an election?

As it should be. There are cheaper, better options for an independent nuclear deterrent for the UK. Trident is a political commitment to alliance with the U.S and not truly an independent deterrent.

Corbyn may mean he sees no need for a nuclear deterrent held by the UK at all when referring to Trident – and responses in turn mean general points about a UK independent nuclear deterrent, but if one separates that general policy from specifics one can oppose Trident specifically without opposing the policy of independent nuclear deterrence.

The German battleship suffered heavy attack during the night of 26–27 May, and sank at 10:39 hours on 27 May.

You’d have to go back a long way in time to find a left-winger who supported the idea of nuclear deterrence as opposed to eliminating nuclear weapons all together. That’s even more true of the Far-Left ranks in which Corbyn has stood all his life. It’s no surprise at all that there is any lack of differentiation, in his comments and arguments, between eliminating Trident and eliminating British nuclear weapon capability all together.

Why then should Corbyn be given the benefit of the doubt?

Surely the better strategy for the Tories would be to leave Corybn well alone. The Tories don’t need to attack Corbyn – he has condemned himself with his own words and actions, and he will continue to do so. For example, yesterday, Corbyn refused to sing the national anthem at the Battle of Britain memorial. Now imagine this kind of nuttiness from Labour, day after day, for the next four and a half years.

It is in the interests of the Conservatives to keep Corbyn in as leader of the Labour Party for as long as they possibly can. Their strategy instead should be on linking all the rest of the Labour Party to Corbyn. Sensible MPs like Chukka Ummuna and Dan Jarvis are trying to run away from the disaster area, but the Conservatives still should be trying to ensure that as many Labour MPs as possible are associated with Corbyn.

Corbyn is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – not only can the Conservatives win 2020 and be in a good position for 2025, but they can wipe out Labour once and for all.

Yep.

It worked for Richard Nixon in the 1972 Presidential election when he was up against an only-slightly-less-nutty George McGovern. Rather than engage and debate Nixon mentioned his record, went to ball games, got himself photographed looking “presidential”, and even though Nixon himself found the strategy personally unfulfilling) he was from the hard-knocks school of political campaigning dating back to 1946)

…he won in a landslide – 49 of 50 states with only the Kennedy stronghold of Massachusetts, as the joke went, replacing Texas as the “lone star state”.

And in doing so, Nixon laid the foundation for Reagan’s success in the 1980s by creating what became known as the “Reagan Democrats”.

I agree that one should never interrupt one’s enemy while he is making a mistake. But the mistake is now in the can, and it’s time to take advantage of it. Labour has dealt itself a fatal blow, but zombies can still do damage. You’d never want people to start getting used to Corbyn and accept his lunacy as the new normal. One wants to make sure that one smacks the fuck out of Corbyn to keep him down and make sure he never gets up. A hare, by rights, should beat a tortoise, but we all know what happened in the fable.

I say pummel the bastard, and keep pummeling him until Labour are extinct.

You can also make Labour extinct by depriving them of oxygen – which appears to be John Key’s strategy.

The only problem is that it does not make the ideas extinct; Labour dies, the Greens or some other group fill the vacuum. One can then only hope that the years pass while the them fractured machinery of actual electoral vote-getting is rebuilt.

Putting this out now, when there is no election to fight, looks a bit desperate. After all, none of these statements are news – the Telegraph, Daily Mail, Sun etc have been reporting this stuff for weeks, and more besides. One might almost imagine the Tories are a little bit spooked. Although probably not nearly as spooked as the rest of the Labour Party caucus…

Labour’s policies aren’t dead here in NZ. They’re being implemented and adopted regularly. The vacuum in this country is filled by National.

There’s none better than you to give a simplistic gloss on Cameron’s foreign policy imperatives than your Gadaffi and Basher ( Putin of course too ) all good and the West ( Obama and Cameron all bad ).

If you care to e.g look more carefully at the background of the overthrow of the Libyan dictator through e.g UN resolution 1973 then things are more complex and nuanced than your nimble mind could ever imagined it to be. .

He’s clueless—but the people who voted for him have just handed the Tories another 5-10 years of government.

The only thing that’s being slightly parsed is the bin Laden bit. He has frequently commented that it’s tragic bin Laden wasn’t brought to justice—trial, in other words—rather than made a martyr.

Boris Johnson must be dripping in his knickers…

Unless the British population at large have undergone a complete sensibility removal, then this gentleman has absolutely no likelihood of achieving any effective political role in the United Kingdom – and certainly not Prime Minister of a Labour Government – in the forsee-able future. Or longer!!.

If what we have already seen of him is anything to judge him by, then he is a complete political throw-back to the mad fifties in British Political history.

My friends and relatives in the UK – although only a tiny fraction of the electorate have written him off already.

I feel sorry for the Labour party and for those members who are truly concerned with social and internal national matters. They have no chance of achieving any Governmental positions of influence as long as this Labour Leader is in post.

R.I.P UK Labour Party!! (And three cheers for that, I might add!!)

The UK has been stuffed for last 20+ years, unfettered Immigration (via Labour mainly) has made certain areas (Birmingham for example, and many more others) bastions of immigrants wanting their ‘old country’ values in UK. The hypocrisy of them protesting/demanding this and that and Muslim values/laws is lost on them as they would not be allowed in the countries they came from, I’m afraid Europe as a whole are a soft touch. Although I do find it amusing the leftie hand wringers who demand women have equal rights in all facets of society ignore the Muslim, and also Indian, disdain and lower class of females in their patriarchal tribal system/religion. Seems the leftie feminists ignore this at their peril….good on Serbia only allowing Christian Syrians to settle there, they are a minority that has been prosecuted without doubt!

You raise a number of good points, but Britain ain’t stuffed. Far from it. I lived and worked in London in the 70s so know what stuffed means! London was losing 2,000,000 people; the only colour was the cheerful “For Sale” signs that festooned every street and which were mute testament to a country that had become too socialist for its own survival. Maggie changed all that, and no-one in their right mind would go back to the old ways. Britain is doing so well that it has become a favourite target for the illegal migrants to strive to get to. And London has so many expat French people that it is considered to be one of France’s great cities!
The British people are tolerant (like us), but sometimes their tolerance goes too far. Corbyn’s goofiness is all the more tragic since all his policies have been tried in the past, and all have failed. The amazing thing is that so many voters haven’t learned from history, which makes him a threat in spite of his truly stupid and idiotic policies because he appeals to these superficial numskulls. I remind you that 49% of New Zealanders won’t vote for John Key. I cannot understand why not. What do they want? Collapsed economic and social systems? A stuffed NZ? That’s what they will get if Comrade Ardern get her say and copies from Comrade Corbyn.
