Okay folks, today is the big day.

It’s the day when mikenmild will hit 24,829 comments, beating Pete George’s old record of 24,828 to become Kiwiblog’s new leader as the most voluminous commentator here.

Incredibly he’s done this in only about five years. That’s an average of more than 13 comments per day, every day in that period.

In recent months he’s actually upped the rate, regularly ticking along at 40 comments per day, which means that he will likely blow past George’s old record by midday.

Of course it’s possible that he may decide to get to 24,827 – and then never comment here again.

I’m sure all of you will be eagerly watching this development, marvelling at one man’s commitment to free speech, and asking yourselves whether he’ll break 30,000? Or 40,000?

    Interesting but – no! Records are more interesting when they’re personal rather than just numbers on a wall. I was pleased when you figured it out. I didn’t want to drop too many hints. As you said – hobbies that take little time.

  Twenty-five thousand is a serious under-count. A string of posts in one thread counts as just one post. Mikenmild is almost as omnipresent as the whole Stephie team in General Debate, so my guess is that his posts total would be nearer 100,000.
  
  Mikenmild. Any chance of putting the “l” into your pseudonym, making it “Milkenmild”. I’ve grown of my shorthand for you, initially a typo – “Milky”.
  
  Any way good on you Milky. I guess you’ve worn through a few keyboards. If you feel like splashing out, I see that online there are some deals (but still dear) on mechanical keyboards. They’ve got that old “clicky” feel and sound that the better typewriters had. Get one of these and let those around you hear how much effort you are putting into Kiwiblog. And the keys won’t become sluggish as they gradually do in mainstream keyboards.

    Her health issues are not factoring into the polls yet. Publically people say they are with her and support her because that’s the nice thing to say.
    But privately no one wants a sick commander in chief that can’t stand up through a 911 memorial service.
    She’s in big trouble. Watch the polls over the next few weeks. I predict her numbers will plummet.

  Here’s an example of how to win a tough campaign, Rob Portman’s Senate Race in Ohio:
  
  When Portman’s campaign manager, Corry Bliss, touched down in Ohio in January 2015, polls had Portman trailing badly, and Bliss realized that Portman was more the challenger than the incumbent. The first-term senator had about 60 percent name ID; Strickland, a former congressman and governor who lost to Kasich in 2010, was known by 90 percent of Ohio residents.

  every public poll conducted through the end of May had Portman either tied or trailing Strickland, in one case by a nine-point margin.
  
  I always thought Strickland was weaker than this, given his earlier loss in the governor’s race against Kasich, but those sorts of numbers were still a worry.

  Merkal does not need need the CSU to govern as the present coalition includes the spd and CSU is only a minor party.
  
  The 18th federal elections in Germany have been succeeded by the renewed re-election of Angela Merkel and her Christian democratic parliamentary group of the parties CDU and CSU, reaching 41.5% of all votes. Their former coalition partner FDP did not reach a 5% threshold, thereby not gaining any seats in the Bundestag.[4]
  
  Not having reached an absolute majority the CDU/CSU, they formed a grand coalition together with the social-democratic SPD after long coalition talks, making the head of the party Sigmar Gabriel vice-chancellor and federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. Together they hold 504 of a total 631 seats (CDU/CSU 311 & SPD 193). The only two opposition parties are The Left (64 seats) and Alliance ’90/The Greens (63 seats).[5]
  
  The CSU has only 56 seats of the 311 so CDU is still the majority party in germany.

Interesting that there are race based statistics available for this police course of action but we cannot be told how many maori, European, Pacifica, Asian or any other ethnic group are involved with violence, driving, robbery, drug offences and a host of other infractions that I am sure will show tangata wheneua in an unfavourable light.

I consider Delegat got off lightly. I believe he should have been imprisoned; however, we do have the consider the precedent of the family connection, or any royal connection, even if it is only to the king of Huntly

  We know the cops are under pressure to make the numbers look good.
  
  What we don’t know is how many Maori (or for that matter Pakeha) get a verbal warning that isn’t even recorded into the system.

  * Do they take the warning seriously?

    The Kermadec fishing conundrum would have more relevance and credibility if the existing “Maori fishing rights” were actually exercised and used by Maori, rather than quotas sold off to the highest bidder.         Albert, the quota fishing management scheme wasn’t introduced until October 1986.
        
        They are a form of property, but under NZ’s political system, Parliament is supreme.
        
        The quotas were created and distributed without anyone paying for them. The Government surely has the right to amend, increase, decrease, or end them.

  Land has no value. It only becomes valuable when worked and made productive. Same for water, oil,…

  A bucket of sand is just a bucket of sand until you add brain power. Then it gets made into steel, concrete, glass and microprocessors.
  
  Add more brainpower and you have bridges, windows, buildings, vehicles and cellphones.
  
  Add more brainpower and you have cities, infrastructure, endless food, internet,…
  
  Without all that Paheka stuff all you have is a bucket of sand that might get in your eyes.
  
  In fact you wouldn’t even have the bucket…

      You make your points well Albert. However I don’t agree that there is actually such a thing as Islamaphobia. A phobia is an exaggerated fear usually related to some kind of neurosis.
      
      But I don’t think that it is at all neurotic to fear Islam. Where ever they go they appear to cause trouble. Over in our closest neighbours Australia they had no end of trouble with Muslims raping white women a number of years ago. In response the judge sent the perpetrators to jail for 20 years.
      We have had a terrorist attack at a Sydney cafe. We have had a Muslim bombing at a Bali nightclub.
      
      So this could happen here. We need to be vigilant and I would agree with David Garrett we should stop bringing Muslims into our country. Because once Muslims become 5% or more of the population then all hell will break loose.
      
      Now the boys at right-wing resistance are a small group of people. I know that you are a liberal and your instinctive reaction is to want to fight an enemy on the right, that is the preferred enemy of every liberal. But here the enemy is right in front of you, militant Islam which causes trouble where ever it goes. That’s the real problem and the real threat to our New Zealand way of life.

        We can, if we wish, do something about that. By discriminating against all Muslims (whatever their qualifications and credentials, and regardless of whether they have actually done anything wrong); by equating all of them with the worst of them; and by banning customs which seem bizarre, archaic and unnecessary in a modern society, but which don’t actually do anybody else any harm – we can foster and encourage anger, resentment and alienation among our Muslim community, making them more likely to resort to violence, and perhaps even draw New Zealand to the active attention of Islamic terrorist organisations.
        
        My case then is not just that banning Muslim immigration (such as it is, the figures hardly indicate the overwhelming tsunami that many Kiwibloggers seem to assume) would be antithetical to our values; it is that it would be counterproductive, and make more certain the outcome you fear.

One hundred years ago today saw the start of the Battle of Flers-Courcette, the first major engagement for the New Zealand Division on the western front.
The 2nd Brigade and the Rifle Brigade assaulted German trenches in front of Flers, supported by tanks, which were used in action for the first time. The attack was relatively successful, but still cost the division over 2,000 casualties, about 30% of those involved.
Sergeant Donald Brown was later awarded the Victoria Cross for his feats on the first day of the battle, attacking and capturing several machine-gun posts. He was killed the following month in the Battle of Le Transloy. His was the first VC awarded to a New Zealand soldier in France.

  The problem with polling is that it is far easier to do than voting.
  
  All you have to put down the fried chicken and pick up the phone. They even call you so it is even easier than ordering take out food.
  
  Real voting means actually getting off the couch and walking down to the voting booth and making the X.
  
  Many of Clinton’s support demographic are far more likely to talk the talk than walk the walk, hence her voter numbers should be heavily discounted. Clinton is very unlikely to see the Dem turnout that Obama received.

Radio NZ, which recently declared a partnership to be more Maori, this morning will feature the Maori 2 per cent party on Maori quota owners’ opposition to the Kermadec fishing sanctuary, and later, it will feature the Maori perspective on the Waikato river, including its use in power generation.

National is responsible for the Maorification of Radio New Zealand. It quite recently reappointed the Radio NZ board chairman and another director, which must signify it’s happy with the State broadcaster.

Amy Adams, the Broadcasting Minister, in addition, has appointed Graham Pryor to the board. In her announcement, she said:

For 14 years he [Pryor] led Mai Media, which ran a network of commercial radio stations and provided news and programmes to iwi radio. He currently serves on the Board of Te Kakano Whakatipu and Maitahi Media.

“Mr Pryor’s extensive governance experience and his Maori perspective will be of great value to the RNZ Board.”

On August 31, Radio New Zealand signed a partnership agreement with “Te Whakaruruhau O Nga Reo Irirangi Maori”, the network of Maori radio stations.

This includes sharing content, “expertise and knowledge”, and developing joint projects.

Expect a torrent of Radio NZ support for the Maori 2 per cent Party.

It looks to me like a sell-out by National.

Was triggering a new arms race to fill the coffers of the military industrial complex a major motivating factor in the strategy, when there was no realistic military threat from either Russia or China? Many geopolitical analysts think so, including those in the Intel field…

The brothers, then in their early twenties, were grieving the recent death of their mother, and they were hungry for answers about the mysteries of the cosmos: “We had sorted through the ideological options, and we had decided to put all of our chips on the psychedelic experience.”

They started hiking near the border of Peru. As Dennis wrote, in his memoir “The Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss,” they arrived four days later in La Chorrera, Colombia, “in our long hair, beards, bells, and beads,” accompanied by a “menagerie of sickly dogs, cats, monkeys, and birds” accumulated along the way. (The local Witoto people were cautiously amused.) There, on the banks of the Igara Paraná River, the travellers found themselves in a psychedelic paradise. There were cattle pastures dotted with Psilocybe cubensis—magic mushrooms—sprouting on dung piles; there were hammocks to lounge in while you tripped; there were Banisteriopsis caapi vines growing in the jungle. Taken together, the drugs produced hallucinations that the brothers called “vegetable television.” When they watched it, they felt they were receiving important information directly from the plants of the Amazon.

The McKennas were sure they were on to something revelatory, something that would change the course of human history. “I and my companions have been selected to understand and trigger the gestalt wave of understanding that will be the hyperspacial zeitgeist,” Dennis wrote in his journal. Their work was not always easy. During one session, the brothers experienced a flash of mutual telepathy, but then Dennis hurled his glasses and all his clothes into the jungle and, for several days, lost touch with “consensus reality…”

And no evidence will shift that position, because it’s emotional – and addresses one part of the heart of any person – their self-respect. See, if they accept that this movie could be true, their whole worldview collapses. And if they have invested some of themselves in that worldview that’s a big deal.   The real issue about Clinton’s health is how come the signs were there but the only people who picked up on them were people painted as fringe loonies whereas “the professionals” almost everyone looks to for “authority” to a man, ignored, indeed actively minimsed all such signs and dots stretching back years.
  
  And these are the very people the people I was referring to above rely on for their data.
  
  The bizarre thing really is these same people will continue to rely on them for their data, so when say Killary either dies or withdraws on health grounds and say Sanders and Michelle Obama pick up the ticket, those people won’t review their experience from a “lessons learned” perspective, at all.       I did finally get o watch the whole 4!2 minutes and can only conclude it is a highly and tiresomely predictable piece of cheap propaganda with the young frontwoman asking loaded and rhetorical questions .
      
      For example, the evolution of the Democrat Party from being pro-slavery and segregation to a modernLiberal and progressive party is well known . I just hope D’Souza had the integrity and was honest enough to include the Republican Southern Strategy that successfully sought to win over the Southern White vote appealing to racist and bigoted sentiments .
      
      As for the Clinton Foundation enough said !

Lady Justice’s blindfold sometimes slips. No argument about that. But now she has thrown it aside to prosecute — some would say persecute — Dinesh D’Souza, a successful conservative author and filmmaker, on flimsy charges of violating campaign finance law. Whether guilty or not, the fact that Mr. D’Souza has been singled out for prosecution while others skate past freely reveals President Obama’s thumb on the famous lady’s scale.

Indeed, four Republican senators wrote to FBI Director James Comey in February, pointing out how convenient it was to use the Justice Department to take out one of the administration’s most prominent critics. The senators quoted Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, a liberal who said, “I can’t help but think that [Mr. D’Souza‘s] politics have something to do with it… . It smacks of selective prosecution.” U.S. District Judge Richard Berman swept away such objections last Thursday, saying “the court concludes the defendant has respectfully submitted no evidence he was selectively prosecuted.” It’s clear who’s wearing a blindfold now.
The Justice Department that would imprison Mr. D’Souza for two years for giving unfair advantage to a friend’s political campaign declined to prosecute members of the New Black Panther Party for threatening white voters with nightsticks at a Philadelphia polling place in 2008. Moreover, Mr. Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign was itself fined $375,000 in 2013 for failing to disclose millions of dollars in contributions and missing deadlines for refunding millions in excess contributions. No one was threatened with prison for that. (That was different, of course.)

“..That a film already busy with historical reenactments, interviews, and conspiracyssing of the wildest sort should end with three consecutive musical numbers suggests a kind of vaudeville structure to D’Souza’s work. As the MC of this show, D’Souza places himself in the unwise position of sometimes having to act: The film’s prologue finds him incarcerated in a detention house, where a charismatic inmate, Roc (Corey Cotten), explains for him how crime works, and how the government is the biggest criminal of all. D’Souza’s facial expression never varies from sour nonplussed; complex emotions aren’t a possibility. There is a shot in one of the final montages, amid all the farms and fields, of D’Souza standing in a sunset-lit prairie, looking like a Terrence Malick outtake. This determinedly uncharismatic figure has now made himself the star of three consistently lunatic productions; this attempt to give himself a moment of poetry is one of Hillary’s America’s final and biggest inadvertent laughs.”
