And the news media wonder why they are loosing followers and readers……

As usual the story about the poor little lady who claims Peter Leech racially abused her is almost certainly lacking the most critical facts.

Firstly being someone of some minor level of maori blood does not enable someone to “do what they liked” – something the Radio NZ has decided not to include in the story.
Second RNZ didnt tell us that she has awful eyewear tastes….
And thirdly this silly young person has probably ruined her job propects for ever and maybe one day she might sue the media for putting her this situation – although personally I think shes
a raving lunatic and deserves all the opprobrium that she gets. If one is too stupid to realise that anything on facebook is likely to go wrong – then maybe she shouldnt be allowed out with out a
minder. And taking on someone like Leech on a public forum indicates a pretty low level of IQ.

Another nail in the ‘Respect for maori views” coffin.

    Well – the reason that one shouldnt wear very large lens glasses is that doing so makes your head seem smaller – and whether one likes it or not your subconscious makes decisions about other people before your conscious bit does. Your subconscious part of your brain says “small head – small brain” – and I shouldnt have to continue the reasoning from there – but incase you cant follow – small brain means that the person is at least a bit stupid and possibly worse – ie: an idiot.

    It sounds, and this is guessing on the basis of my own embarrassing misadventures in race relations, as if Leitch made a weak joke which she interpreted literally and, given her literal interpretation, replied to with an indignant but accurate personal statement, whose meaning was in turn misinterpreted; by this time no one was listening carefully or charitably.

        AOR, saw one like that myself recently, I was appalled. Overtook a logging truck into a blind corner and only just got past before a ute came the other way. Caught him (it was a him, in a Falcon XR6) down the other side where it was twisty behind a line of cars, and as soon as it straightened out he just went loony again forcing an oncoming car to brake heavily and take to the verge. I was dropping back to avoid the possible carnage but he made it untouched.
        
        Then about 10 km further on I saw those red & blue flashing lights, and yep, there was our dashing idiot having an earnest discussion with a pair of cops. Probably shopped by one of the trucks he passed and rightly so. Nearly pulled over to advise the cops how badly he had been driving but decided that would probably be overkill. It did look like he was hyped on something, just pulled out into a blind corner and went for it, relying purely on luck.

Re the Williams sisters pulling out of the ASB tennis, the cynic in me tells me that they had no real intention of playing anymore – they probably have been paid appearance money, so why play anymore?

This is not the first time this sort of thing happened – some years ago a top ranking woman tennis player – I can’t remember her name – pulled out in a similar situation.

As for the weather, I think that’s bollocks. Surely tennis players must be able to play in all conditions (except rain) – if the wind was that bad surely it would be up to the umpire to call the game off.

And oh, happy new year.

    To be fair Longknives, Federer and Nadal came to New Zealand well before they became global stars of tennis. That’s quite a difference to Serena Williams, who will be there at the business end of the Australian Open.
    
    ASB Classic organiser Karl Budge did an outstanding job this year with the best women’s field yet. Yes, Caroline Wozniaki is the only “name” player to make the last eight, but you can hardly blame Budge for the weather, the Williams sisters’ exit or the late withdrawls of Ana Ivanovic (retirement), or 2016 champion Sloane Stephens (injury).

        And it’s not just limited to race/sex it also comes out in the “the little bloke can’t get ahead” mentality of many whites too.

As I’ve been telling you for years, the US has been supplying weapons to ISIS. Now Turkey’s complaining about TOWs being used against them in Iraq. Just wait till those MANPADS hit the US and Europe.

We have seen various commentators noting that under the guise of military assistance to the Kurdish Peshmerga, the Obama administration is actively assisting various extremist groups in Syria by secretly supplying them to with all sorts of weapons, along with the so-called “advisers” in a bid to topple the legitimate Syrian government.

It’s no coincidence that after the liberation of Aleppo, Syrian troops found stockpiles of weapons and explosives manufactured in the US, Germany and Bulgaria, including a large amount of anti-tank missiles.

While the Aleppo operation has been a turning point in the Syrian armed conflict, the White House is still in a hurry to provide maximum support to the so-called “moderate opposition” in Syria, but now it’s clear for pretty much everyone that Washington is assisting ISIS. Last December alone Turkish bloggers spotted the passage of three large cargo ships through the Bosporus Strait, presumably carrying arms for the Syrian rebels. In particular, in mid-December a freighter Karina Danica left Bulgarian shore, while heading to Saudi Jeddah with weapons on board, reports Bosphorus Observer on Twitter. This data is confirmed by a specialized tracking site known as MarineTraffic. It is a well known fact that the freighter Karina Danica is a Danish vessel, chartered by the American company Cherming, which is the official supplier of non-standard NATO weapons for the US “allies” in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. It’s curious that the Bulgarian Vazovski Machine-Building Plant that sells weapons to Cherming, increased its sales by 12 times in 2016, making a profit of 170 million dollars.

What makes this whole arms supplies story awkward is the scandal that broke out in 2015, when the Chairman of the Iraqi Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security, Hakim Zamili asked PM Haider al-Abadi to intervene immediately to stop the 300 million dollars worth ammunition deal that with Romanian weapons being delivered to ISIS directly, while financed by one of the neighboring countries. In 2016, the director of the Conflict Armament Research, James Bevan stated that the weapons from Eastern Europe that were officially designated for the so-called “moderate opposition” are falling in extremist hands.

The decision to supply anti-government troops in Syria with all sorts of weapons, including MANPADS, that was signed by President Barack Obama on December 23, may lead to the further escalation of the Syrian conflict and new victims.

A coroner’s inquest has revealed how WINZ has adopted a punitive culture that led directly to the recent suicide of one of the people it was meant to be helping.

celebrated former beneficiary Paula Bennet was the minister in charge at the time and should be help responsible.

Stuff reports:

Monthly quotas were imposed at the Ministry of Social Development to prosecute beneficiaries, an inquest into the death of a woman accused of benefit fraud has heard.

“We had to get one prosecution per month. We had to get $30,000 of debt to be recovered per month,” a former MSD investigator told the inquest into the death of Wendy Shoebridge. “Four cases had to be cleared per month.”

Shoebridge, a 41-year-old mother, was found dead in Lower Hutt on April 3, 2011.

The day before, she opened a letter saying she was to be referred for prosecution over an alleged $22,000 benefit fraud. After her death, that amount fell to about $5500.

Shoebridge was on the path to recovery after troubles including severe depression, coroner Anna Tutton heard, and the investigator did not want to prosecute her.

But he said a higher-ranking employee disagreed, and he was not well-placed to defy management.

“My manager told me that just because [she] had threatened suicide in the past doesn’t mean she will try again.

“I was given a direction. Unfortunately it was the wrong direction.”

Because of existing concerns for Shoebridge, he hoped to hand-deliver the letter to her, but said this too was ruled out.

Accessing support from WINZ is a nightmare. There has been a massive drop in the mumber of people accessing benefits as a percentage of the working age population that is not matched by similar drops in official unemployment levels.

I am convinced that is a significant reason fro the high levels of suicide in this country and the rise in absolute poverty reflected in levels of homelessness and the growing numbers of people accessing foodbanks.

A culture change is needed.

A small step in the right direction would be to abolish the difference between the single rate of benefit and the reduced rate you get if you are living in a relationship with someone else.

The next step would be to increase the rate someone with children gets on the jobseekers benefit to be the same as the sole parent benefit.

The current discriminatory Working for Families system should be changed to allow all low-income families access to the same level of support as those in work.

WINZ would no longer have an excuse to be hunting people down because a boyfriend has stayed too many times overnight. The punitive moralistic WINZ police could find better jobs to do.

The more accessing welfare support when needed is seen as a right the better off we all will be as a society,

  If you know the rules when being given taxpayer funding to live on, then its incumbent upon you to live by those rules. It might not be a big deal to you WikiB, but it is to me and 1000’s of other taxpayers. What the lefties all forget that this money doesn’t grow on trees and Winz have a moral and legal duty to make sure it goes to the right law abiding people who are more deserving than those that think it is their right regardless of what they do and how they live.

        Actually I mistyped. The perils of typing a comment when your kids are rushing you to go to the Luge.
        I understand how cut outs work but there is no evidence that Russia is using one to them give files to Wikileaks.
        I read the 13 page report from the CIA. 11 pages was on the process of hacking and phishing(interesting actually) whilst the first two were just supposition and I note they refer to very old malware.
        Also of note is the rather large Disclaimer at the front of the report…
        So, so far no real actual evidence that Russia did it.
        We will see what else comes up.
        Have to say Assanges body language shows he isn’t lying.
        Personally I reckon people have tried to hack but the DNC ‘leak’ is actually a whistleblower, whilst Podesta was a Phishing win.

These are people who live in upscale communities, behind gated walls, in the shadow of bodyguards and personal assistants. Even the ones who think they are living “regular” lives by eschewing the protectors and gated communities are still afforded a level of privilege that the rest of us can only dream of. They buy what they want, vacation where they want, and eat where and what they want. They don’t have to bother themselves with the same small, everyday decisions as the average American struggling to make ends meet.

They are completely detached from real life in this country, and yet are unable to censor themselves and their every fleeting political thought as if what they think matters more than what we think. This video is the perfect example of the disconnect between celebrity culture and their consumers.

You live in a fantasy world. I mean, you guys can’t even understand the purpose of the Electoral College and why that “popular vote” is meaningless in the world of American politics. My daughter is nine and even she gets it. That’s probably because she doesn’t live in an echo chamber with hair and make-up available at a moment’s notice.

You’re embarrassing yourselves and alienating fans. This latest video is particularly pathetic because it spits in the face the very people who buy your movies and watch your shows. Congress is an elected body. Who elected a near supermajority in both Houses? THE VOTERS.

It’s your job to look pretty and entertain me. Literally.

As a fan I find it increasingly difficult to buy tickets to your movies and watch your shows when you are so blatant about your disdain for my point of view and condescension about my intelligence. You don’t know more than I do. You don’t know more than my neighbor does. You aren’t smarter than us. You’re just richer. And if we’re to believe what you’re telling us about Trump, money makes you stupid.

Please stop being stupid and get back to entertaining us. It’s all you’re there for. If you want your job to mean more, quit and find a new line of work in the real world. Otherwise, shut up and act.

What a load of crap from Susan Devoy – casual racism. So you might comment that someone has a rather darkish skin – now its casual racism. I was in whats called Te Awa at The Base shopping centre in Hamilton the other day. What I did notice (yes I know this will offend lots….) was that the crowd was a majority of darker skin. “golly” I thought – “this place is getting dark”. Now I blame my eyes for noticing the matter and maybe I should get them attended to so that I only see black and white (Oh my god – another racist remark!)
What we need is more definite and positive racism. Both positive and negative racism.

Ever wonder why the Conservative Party don’t clamp down on tax dodging?

An investigation by the Guardian has revealed close links between a Conservative MP and two companies based in a tax haven.

Nadhim Zahawi has financial ties to Balshore Investments and Berkford Investments, which operate from a lawyers’ office in Gibraltar. He does not declare a connection to either company on the MPs’ register of interests.

Balshore Investments holds shares worth over £20m in YouGov, the polling firm co-founded by Zahawi in 2000. YouGov company documents have referred to Balshore as “the family trust of Nadhim Zahawi’s family”.

Under parliamentary rules MPs have to declare any shareholding valued at more than £70,000, including those owned through a trust. The Stratford-upon-Avon MP did not answer questions over whether he was a beneficiary of a trust and said that everything had been correctly declared in the MPs’ register of interests.

Asked if he had received any payments from Balshore, Zahawi said: “All of my business interests were properly dealt with and declared from 2000. That includes my family.”

On at least one occasion, Zahawi took out a loan from YouGov. When he was due to repay the loan, the money was removed from a dividend due to be paid to Balshore.

A 2005 company document noted that “a portion of the ‘A’ dividend was attributable to Balshore Investments Limited, an overseas company, and has been applied to reduce the current account balance of Nadhim Zahawi”.

According to Balshore’s company filings in Gibraltar, its shares are held by T&T Nominees, and one of the company’s directors is Nadhim Zahawi’s father. T&T Nominees also holds the shares of a second company called Berkford Investments. In 2011 Berkford Investments loaned Zahawi money so that the MP and his wife could buy a livery yard in Warwickshire.

An Italian woman who traveled to Syria two years ago proclaiming her support for Islamic State was sentenced in absentia on Monday to nine years in jail on terrorism-related charges, a court ruled.

Maria Giulia Sergio, 29, converted to Islam in 2007 and moved to Syria with her Albanian-born husband in 2014. She later urged her parents and sister to join them and sign up to the ‘jihad’ or holy war announced by Islamic State rulers.

“Dad, drag mum here by the hair. She doesn’t have the right to any opinions,” she said in a call home that was tapped by police. “I can’t wait to die as a martyr,” she said in another call, predicting that the holy war would one day reach Rome.

Plod is talking about variable speed limits on the roads. This is more than what is used at the moment I think? Whats the chances of it been another revenue gathering exercise and excuse to lower the drink drive limit lower again to justify the zero limit? Plods all pissed with the fatalities on the road and needs some excuses!

  Yeah proof is in over last few years accident and death stats that police targeting of marginal speeders and drinkers has no noticeable benefit (just makes everyone’s lives a little less good). It is obviously the outrageously fast and drunk who are a problem, and their behaviour hasn’t been modified by law/policing change.
  
  Now rationally given such evidence they should revert to old speed and drink drive limits that were just as safe and more permissive. But being irrationally dogmatic dickheads they will never back down even when proven wrong.

  Was driving in a 100km/hr area this afternoon and the car I was following was doing 80 at tops, would brake on the slightest curve in the road and randomly brake when cars approached from the other direction. There was a further 10 cars behind me.
