Interesting to hear Kevin Hague on the news last night declaring open cast coal mining on the Buller Plateau as being essentially the last resort and immensely destructive.

Tunneling for coal’s pretty destructive too though eh. Still, at least the scrub and snails are safe.

There are those here who will be better placed to comment on the possibility of Labour retaining their 27 seats. Mallard is not looking too secure and neither is his position on the list at 32nd requiring Labour to secure 33% of the vote.

I got a Lady Godiva that says our Trev is unemployed and probably unemployable on September 23rd, 144 sleeps to the 22nd.

  As soon as the Nats get their act together during the campaign and drum it in to the sheepies that when you vote Labour, you get the Greens, Labour’s party vote will end up below 24%. If it gets to 22%, even Angry is gone.

What I found most amusing was the pre-planned, forced grins on the faces of those standing around him in his interview yesterday afternoon…The nervous captain of the Titanic proclaiming the ship is fine and there is nothing to worry about 🙂

    You weren’t addressing me, Mike, but I’ll reply anyway as yes, I do. It’s pretty impolitic to say that, but if you read some canonical literature – the Manifesto by K Marx and F Engels, for example, or between the lines of Gramsci, or for that matter the Devil himself – or almost – V Lenin, you will find this is kind of understood: that the people who rule are there for reasons, not prejudice, and that significant social change happens when the best and brightest of them see their interests lie with the oppressed. As these are most au fait with how things work, they are likely to be effective in a new era and bring others along with them.
    
    It’s easy to smirk at “white middle class males”, as if they are all alike, just as it is easy to laugh at the idea that “Maori” or “women” or any other defined group are otherwise indistinguishable. They are not. Their usefulness or lack of it to any cause is their individual qualities. Labour won’t have a problem with not enough white middle class males in its list, but not enough able ones. What is there too often looks like white muddle class – don’t know what they are doing, can’t get used to an era where the old ways don’t work any more. As Gramsci for it really was he, wrote, “the old is dying and the new can not be born; in the interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appears”. That’s Labour. It’s NZ First too, and the Greens are not cutting it. . .it grieves someone like myself to see that the most progressive party on offer in this election is National, but it is so. The bleats from the so-called “left” are those of a bunch of losers who can not see what is happening, in the world, or to them. So yes, not enough white middle class males who know what they are doing and no, it’s not nice to say that and probably pointless to a party whose main attribute is myopia.

The tapes that have been released of the aftermath of the Pike River explosion seemed to be pieces picked out to suit the narrative of what sort of a hit that Three New and Paddy Gower want to exercise for the family against the National Goverenment. It is apparent that the tape is hours long and pieces are being cut to show in the News.

  It is said that “some” would appear to have seen the tape in 2011.
  Their Lawyer and Bernie (and Winston of course) say they have not seen it and it was not offered to the Royal Commission, who we are told had decided that was of no effect to the role of the Commission.
  Why are a small few of the millionaire wives of the miners still pursuing this ?
  Could it continue to be political ? – after all it is crap the National Government year after all.
  I am still waiting to hear where my family contribution to the families went along with over $30,000,000 money given.

Talk about birds of a feather. What have the Lie-bour/Green Party joined at the hip ,have in common with Kim Jong Un the wee tub of lard from North Korea. He has the potential to cause massive world wide disruption. In NZ two of the Kim Jong UN lookalikes, Grant Robertson, from Liebour, and the other wee tub of lard from Green Party Meturia Turei, could if elected in the September election,have the potential to wreak havoc on the NZ way of life, and even destroy the standard of living and well being of NZs.

Andrew Little has been quoted on ZB as bemoaning reports of the Labour Party as being in crisis because the list ranking announcement was delayed.

Given that the reason for delay was only because the candidate Little had hand-picked, and offered a Cabinet role if Labour is elected, was upset with his ranking, then it is a crisis, for Little at least. For a start, Labour’s Maori caucus will be peeved that Jackson is going to get Maori Development, and Jackson has every reason to be peeved given he quit his radio job on the expectation of a single-digit list ranking, and guaranteed election to Parliament. At 21 on the list, his election is far from a done deal, especially if Little continues to make this kind of clusterf*ck.

And what of Trevor Mallard? I guess he could always get a job as a pub bouncer…

    Cabinet minister Trevor Mallard has escaped an assault charge over his altercation with National MP Tau Henare by pleading guilty to the lesser charge of fighting in a public place.
    
    Appearing in Wellington District Court this afternoon, the Environment Minister was convicted and agreed to pay $500 to a Salvation Army drug and alcohol rehabilitation course.
    
    Accountant and self-styled political activist Graham McCready took the private assault prosecution against Mallard over the parliamentary dust-up in October.
    
    He also filed documents alleging a second assault in 2006, when Mr Mallard allegedly swiped National MP Bob Clarkson with a manila folder.
    
    The charge of fighting in a public place is subject only to fine, and there is no legal penalty of imprisonment.
    
    Mallard made the payment immediately before leaving the court building.
    
    Outside the court he said he was “really pleased it’s over before Christmas”.
    
    He said he was not proud of his involvement with this matter.

In the premiere of American Gods, a woman named Bilquis (Yetide Badaki) is out for drinks with a man she met online. They’re an odd couple. She’s young, beautiful, and exquisitely dressed. He’s a frumpy, awkward dad. As the date progresses to the bedroom, something begins to feel a little off.

    And if you were only to hang out here, there’s always going’s on for Labour. Non stop going’s on. You’d not be mistaken for thinking National didn’t exist. No critiques of the winning moves, no suggestions for the future – just comparisons of Labour to Kim Jong Un (really? LOL.   Andrew Little has given Willy the job of Maori Campaign Director as a trade off for his low list placing. That role will require all of Willy’s attention as Labour will be fighting to retain it’s hold on the Maori seats with a unified effort to unseat them coming in from Mana/Maori.
  Willy was tipped to stand in Tamaki Makaurau with the Maori Party whom he had advocated for as an independent voice for Maori but was persuaded to join Labour instead with the promise of a high list placing, which has not eventuated.
  This was a clever strategic move by Labour who have effectively neutered the Maori Party by luring Jackson away to Labour which will in effect set the scene for a no holds barred scrap for the Maori seats come the election.
  With a tight result on the cards, and coalitions featuring strongly, the Maori seats could be the difference come September.

Both are impossible and stupid but thats not what the powers to be will decide and we will spend $Millions to decide we have to pay more $Millions to lawyers who will be the only winners.

The Immigration NZ bureaucratic czars who have declared refugees will be imposed on Invercargill don’t seem to have consulted the locals.

Invercargill’s Mayor, Tim Shadbolt, says there was no consultation by the bureaucrats “of any kind,” and he expressed concern about possible effects on unemployment.

Immigration New Zealand refugee unit national manager Andrew Lockhart is quoted on Stuff, presumably from the Southland Times, as saying:

Sending people out to the regions was to reduce the number of refugees being settled in Auckland and they would be sent to places, which suited the skill set they brought to New Zealand.

Immigration NZ is right out of control, and its bureaucrats are acting as though they were apparatchiks in Stalin’s Soviet Union – “sending people out to the regions”.

Immigration Minister Woodhouse is a disaster. His Immigration service is out of control.

No doubt, thickos from two small local PR-type organisations – Venture Southland and the grandly named Southland Regional Development Strategy governance group – will get boots up the arse before Christmas from Southlanders not enthused about an in-pour of Muslim refugees. These tiny organisations, which are financially supported by ratepayers, apparently suggested refugee settlement would benefit the region.

    They’re doing fine in the Southland rest homes with local workers already, I hear, GoVege. The carers’ wages are up, and it doesn’t cost so much to live in Invercargill, with cheap housing.
    
    And what businesses will refugees setup? Fast food outlets and restaurants, I expect. Huge market for those in Southland, eh? Not a lot of your fellow vegans in this meat-producing area, either.
    
    When it comes to export businesses, Southland has always been above national average even before Filipinos displaced local youngsters as dairy farm hands.
    
    National has already upset of its traditional voters and party workers in Southland with the MP for Clutha-Southland bedazzled by the youth scene in Queenstown.
    
    Last election, Sarah Dowie got 51 per cent of the overall vote to win the Invercargill seat. Labour was well trounced and NZ First got 11 per cent.

      Firstly, Jack, I am NOT a vegan.
      As for carers in rest homes, I’ve heard the immigrants are much kinder than a lot of Kiwis with the elderly.
      (Their cultures tend to revere old people, although they can be very brutal towards younger women.)
      I’ve yet to come across a Muslim vegetarian or vegan yet so I doubt if your a average flesh-chomping Southland will have a problem with their food.

        So it’s hard enough being vegequarian (include fish) and I occasionally/frequently fall off the wagon.
        As for immigrants, unless they are from a very similar culture to ours, I reckon we should bring them in in small numbers only, and make them attend courses on our laws and culture.

As you read the article you find this is not really reality but we are talking the Greens here so that’s expected but the point for me is who cares anyway.
The Super Fund should have a free hand to invest in whatever it deems attractive,ethical and social niceties should not come into it.
Ethical investment as a concept is bullshit as it is all in the eye of the beholder and is at the mercy of ideological and political whims which never contribute to good investment decisions.
Ultimately if do gooders out there think investing in coal, landmines, nuclear energy etc is evil they could always show their displeasure by opting to not draw their pension when the time comes.
Yeah right, they would not actually want to do something which takes money from their own pocket as it’s easier to do that with someone else’s money.

  I picked up a piece of rump last Tuesday, about 1.5kgs, dry aged for a month and with a half-inch fat cap all around it.
  
  I did one inch steaks, about four minutes a side in the pan and then well rested.
  
  It was out of this world, one of the best pieces of rump I’ve ever had. My Hindu flattie reckons it was enough to make him give up his religion!

        During the musket wars, when northern tribes obtained muskets before any other tribes further south, this is exactly what happened.

  There was a report by AL Jazeera about youth crime in NZ citing the usual causes: violent homes, single parenthood, fatherless kids, etc.
  What they fail to admit is that just about ALL countries with sexist, male-dominated cultures have these problems with crime and gangs of youths on the prowl.
  It is only when males knuckle down and make the effort to stick with and support…not abuse and abandon ….their wives and kids, that this stops.
  Why is it that Maori have 4 times the rate of teen pregnancy for girls 17 years and under?
  (And Maori leaders don’t care.)
  Why is the Maori and Polynesian birth rate so much higher than European or Asian…and many of these kids are supported on state bennies with single mothers?
  Because their men are raised to respect women?
  Until we talk about it, nothing will change.
  Hardworking business owners will continue to be robbed and terrorised by the kids of absent fathers of sexist cultures.

        That’s not my experience GoVege – Mrs Green and I don’t have children but our friends who do have purposefully raised children with two parents – together or not – and in one case three parents (same sex couple. Children all seem to be doing well. Relationships may break up but good parenting means not putting your kids in the middle. Where do we learn this stuff? Netflix? Katy Perry? American culture?         Your friends sound very mature, Sam, but in my experience, divorce seldom works out that well.
        A couple I knew well, ended up good friends after the divorce, as did my parents.
        But I remember visiting at the time of their break-up and how distressed the young kids were.
        I found out later, that the wife stole her next husband off a trusting friend, who subsequently ended up in a violent relationship with her three kids, on the rebound.
        Maori and Polynesians seldom remain friends or even see each other after divorce.
        A lovely pakeha woman I met at a refuge, told me she had to divorce her Maori husband for his extreme violence.
        Afterwards, none of his female Maori relatives would speak to her.

  He did get $1.25 Billion for Border security but really the funding for the wall won’t be asked for until the next budget in Sept. Arent they still at the selection stage and those interested have to build their prototypes first?
  It’s hard to ask for funding for something you don’t know how much costs…

I was watching a thing on TV, Empire I think it was called. This episode talked of how the British invented modern Israel.

They talked with a vile old Jewish hag who was part of the bombing at the King David Hotel (which the Jews tried to blame on the Muslims). 90 people were murdered in the attack. Mostly the very same Brits there to help the Jews in their goal of establishing a religious theme park based on Jewish fables.

This hideous old hag showed no concern for the dead goy. The interviewer politely reminded her the British were helping the Jews and suggested she may feel some regret for their deaths in retrospect. But no.

With eyes black with hatred she made it crystal clear it was nothing for them to die. They were not Jews and she had no concern for them.

This is why people resent the Jews. It is the utter contempt they have for others. A recent example is Israel saying NZ not supporting their invasion and occupation of neighboring countries was a “declaration of war”.

There is no such thing as an “anti semite”. It is a weasel word for the morally cripple to try and shame others into silence to avoid holding that vile arrogant cult to the same account as other people.

People don’t resent Jews for being Jews. They resent them for their hideous and repugnant behaviour and for no other reason.

Yes yes yes… I know not all Jews are like this. However not all nazi supporters were killers, yet we don’t hear that excuse made for them, or anyone else. Personally I would never mistreat anyone for their culture, religion, not just Jews.

  The hypocrisy on this blog is astounding- over the past week alone, I have bought to Kiwiblogs attention a number of examples of Jewish behaviour, if they were committed by Muslims, would send the commentators here foaming at the mouth, but instead all I hear is radio silence in the issue them attacking me for pointing out inconvenient facts!!
  
  Examples include:
  – Dozens of cases of Jews who commit hoaxes in order to garner sympathy and make their fellow brethren believe that they are surrounded by so called “anti-semites”.
  – Christians in Israel asking Jews to stop spitting on them
  – Rabbis burning bibles and telling their flock that Goyim are nothing but cattle there to serve them
  – Hypocrisy of French Jews complaining about anti semitism from Muslims yet doing all they can to stop Le Pen from winning.
  
  And, separately, I thought everyone would be interested in the fact ISIS apologised to Israel for attacking them. Not only did they ignore the story, I was labelled a “Nazi” for raising it up!!

Speaking of TV did you all see the footage of the robot the cops sent into Pyke River Mine to hide evidence ?

Some said it was a military robot sent in soon after the explosion to kill any survivors to avoid paying compensation, but that is just silly. 🙂

Jack was sitting in an plane waiting to take off from Wellington
when another guy took the seat beside him. The new guy
was an absolute wreck, pale, hands shaking, biting his nails

“Hey, mate, what’s the matter?” Jack asked

“Oh man… I’ve been transferred to Auckland,” the other
guy answered, there’s crazy people in Auckland and they
have shootings, gang warfare, drugs, the highest
crime rate…”

“Hold on,” Jack interrupted, “I’ve lived in Auckland all my life,
and it is not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home,
go to work, mind your own business, enroll your kids in a
good school and it’s as safe as anywhere in the world.”

The other passenger relaxed and stopped shaking for a
moment and said, “Oh, thank you. I’ve been worried to
death, but if you live there and say it’s OK, I’ll take your
word for it. What do you do for a living?”

“Me?” said Jack, “I’m a tail gunner on a bread truck in
Mangere.”

Featured article on the Radio NZ site about police shooting strategy, but not one mention of the hollow-nose ammunition that NZ police and many other police forces use.

The Radio NZ reporter focuses on aiming at body mass rather than limbs, and reports a German expert criticising this.

But what about the use of hollow-point bullets, designed to mushroom when they hit? These were banned from military use by the Hague Convention. The United States was one of the few nations which declined to accept the hollow-nose clause of the 1899 Hague Convention.

A Hooerald report makes some good points about NZ’s cold housing.

However, it treats NZ’s climate as uniform. This is a small country but it’s narrow and long. Auckland is 36 deg south and Invercargill is 46 deg south. It is bloody freezing in Southland and central Otago in winter. Nowhere near as cold as Russia, but the Russians have better home heating.

The clean-air fanatics and the anti-gas Greenies strongly influence attitudes which have stopped South Island cities and towns from exploring coal-seam gas and close inshore and near-inshore gas resources for town reticulation.

Way down the list of the ZB News was a brief two liner stating that ‘unemployment had reduced marginally in April from 5.2% to 4.9%’. That’s a fairly momentous piece of news – how far back did NZ have an unemployment rate of less than 5% and why wasn’t that picked up by NZME’s ‘trained and skilled’ journalists? Doesn’t suit their political agenda maybe.
