America cannot plead special treatment based on past performance. Its total (accumulated since industrialisation), current and per capita emission of carbon dioxide is very high. If it has dropped it is as much to do with shifting manufacturing to China as a shift to wind and solar – as significant as that has been.

The encouraging thing that Mr Tillerson cannot say: Informed people, including leaders of industry, know we cannot continue business-as-usual and there is a madman in the White House.

Councillor Aaron Keown reckons ‘given the opportunity kids will grab fruit off trees’.

Yeah nah. The kids whose parents haven’t given them a decent lunch will continue to buy pies and chips. Like so many do-gooders, Aaron hasn’t thought it through.

1: Fruit trees in cities attract vermin such as sparrows and rats. These spread disease.
2: Kids fall out of trees. Liability.
3: Asians will strip any fruiting tree on public property, they already do this in Auckland.

Why can’t Councils stick to their core responsibilities? I know, the Local Govt Act.

      I would recruit elderly South Korean men of retired age to police Auckland’s public fruit/nut trees from marauding elderly Chinese.
      Be sure to give each guard a whistle, arm-band, white peaked cap with a prominent gold-embroided coat of arms of the City of Auckland, and a large walkie-talkie (for show).
      These old codgers will be happy to work as “volunteers” if they are given the right to yell at elderly Chinese and boss them around. (Deep down in their hearts, they have wanted to do this all their lives.)

      I am not sure about Chinese culture (I can feel a generalization coming on…)
      In Japan, if you cheat me, then shame on you. In China, if you cheat me, then shame on me for allowing myself to be cheated.
      
      A similar line of thinking could extend to the trees. Since the owners of these have not protected them, the fruits/nuts are there to be taken.

The US has much bigger fish to fry (pardon the pun) than climate change, to which humans will adapt.

Personally I think warming is a much better outcome than cooling.

(Global cooling = ice age = water locked up in ice caps = massive desertification = massive body count)

With warming, the teeming populations in hot countries will naturally sharply decline as they are already well over-populated, and we can grow avocados in Bluff.

For years UK parliamentarians have been uttering the same meaningless platitudes about Muslim terrorism as the likes of David Seymour, Grant Robertson and Peter Dunne did in parliament yesterday. And we all know how ineffective such empty words have been- as pointless as the candlilit vigils and the choruses of ‘We will overcome’ and ‘Kumbaya’. The only politician prepared to speak outside the confines of politically correct emptiness is Winton Peters.

Like or loathe him, Peters is the only parliamentarian prepared to speak the truth about reforming the Muslim ideology from within, and concerned for the future welfare of the New Zealand public in face of Islamic terrorism. He may have major flaws- and which of our parliamentarians doesn’t- but he deserves credit for avoiding the pointless banalities we heard from from so many others yesterday.

  To listen to Peters talk one would think there was an Islamist terror attack every couple of days in NZ. The last terror attack I recall, offhand, was by the French on the Rainbow Warrior & before that the bomb that killed Ernie Abbott.
  What we do have is multiple attacks on dairies & petrol stations that terrorise the shop keepers. Maybe Peters time would be better spent speaking out about what is actually happening instead of tilting at windmills for political gain.

  This doesn’t mean anything will change if you vote for him.
  
  Politicians to be successful have to both sell and deliver.

    Quite so Reid. Peters has a long history of promising much, but delivering far less.
    
    And of course his history in government is seriously underwhelming. He has yet to last a three year term without being sacked (by Bolger and Shipley) or stood down (by Clark). He is not a team player, and can’t abide by the doctrine of collective Cabinet responsibility. If the expression didn’t have other connotations now, I’d even go so far as to call him a lone wolf!

Wellington hospital is having to put overflow patients in local motels stating “lack of funding” as the problem. Liarbore say there is a $2.3m health care shortfall.
Am I right in smelling an election rat.

  No the report is true.
  So that out of towners don’t miss out on the surgery, the Wellington DHB puts them up the night before in local motels, as the beds are all full and the hospital can’t accomodate them the night before at Wellington Hospital.
  
  The issue is as a Teaching Hospital, Wellington takes patients from other DHB’s, but the reimbursement from the other DHB’s (when it finally comes) doesn’t cover the overnight stays.

    Exactly. They are not ‘overflow patients’. They are people who would be at home if they lived closer to the hospital.
    
    It’s just unions trying to help Labour by declaring a crisis where none exists. As soon as they get in front of a microphone they stop talking about patients and start asking for more money for themselves.

  That is right, similar stories will be dredged up prior to the election.
  If a local patient is admitted in the morning for afternoon surgery there is no need for an out of town patient (whose local hospital cannot do the required procedure) to be admitted the day before if the patient has to stay a night because of travel arrangements. If there is a spare bed, then admit the patient the day before, otherwise what is wrong with the patient staying elsewhere overnight.
  The other thing is if a hospital is provided with spare beds for this purpose, the nightly cost of such beds would far exceed the cost of a bed in a five star hotel. So better off to accept that some such patients will need to spend a night outside the hospital before surgery.

    My confusion was the news item stated “Patients were being put in motels due to funding cuts”. Not that said patients were traveling to hospital for admittance the next day.
    
    I wasn’t aware hospitals paid accommodation costs for patients who require to attend hospital the following day. I’d expect to cover this expense without question.

      It happens in Otago as well, Waikato Girl. I am not sure of the exact policy but patients from out of town get travelling and sometimes accommodation assistance. If you are due to be admitted on Monday then you get hardly expect the DHB to find a hospital bed on Sunday night.
      Assuming that the story relates to out of towners arriving before admission then it is dishonest. On top of that, someone needs to explain to the authors that a funding cut means getting less money than you did previously: not getting more than you did previously but not as much as you would have liked.

      In the BOP I was expected to attend a 7.30am pre op fully specially washed shave there for hernia, and ready.
      We live 95 kms from this new hospital in Whakatane where there was a suitable available surgeon.
      He operated before 8.30am – I was expected to stay within 30 minutes of then hospital for 24 hours.
      The DOB paid up to an acceptable motel financial limit for night before and after.
      Petrol was at a fixed kms limit as over 80kms.
      Did not know about it until advised to sign the forms at the Hospital.
      Wonderful BOPDHB Service all round.

        Paulus, I guess overnight stays in motels are the price we pay for Base hospitals and not locally run hospitals in every small town. Saves taxpayer money overall so I agree it is expedient and practical.

      We have marvellous health care. While living in Wellington I was flown to both Christchurch and Dunedin for investigation or treatment. All costs were prepaid including a week in a Dunedin Hotel.

  Andrew Little has said that $2.3 billion will be reimbursed back to Health in their first term and this on top of what they give on budget day. They obviously agree that National has been very prudent in running the NZ Economy or where do you think they could get the extra money from.

Out of the woodwork comes David Seymour from ACT Party. Not forgetting a woman called Smalley from the lefty radio channel ,Newstalk ZB putting the boot into Winston Peters comments. Both of them shooting the messenger,as if his comments were inappropiate. For the information of Winston Peters critics,there are at least 100 Sharia Law Courts in UK,maybe people like Smalley,and Seymour, would welcome them here.

    After Winnie says what needed to be said about muslim terrorism, Seymour pops up like the stupid little boy he is and channels his inner Merkel, proving once and for all that he is just as Labour Lite as National are.
    
    The single biggest challenge to our way of life is the islamisation threat and there is increasing concern in the centre right about this problem. Seymour has proven once again why ACT are not the right place to lodge protest votes against National’s Labour Lite transformation. The fact that he lines up with that bouffant fart Dunne on this issue should be sufficient to prove he’s not worth a vote.
    
    ACT is going to be mired in utter irrelevancy until Seymour gets the boot.
    
    And Winnie has just hoovered up a bunch more party votes by speaking out on this issue and condemning the real problem – the muslim community itself!

Team NZ’s state of the art boat capsized before reaching the starting line this morning when the bow nosedived, tipping the mast into the sea along with 3 or 4 of the crew. Nobody was injured.
There is no major damage to the boat so they will be back tomorrow.

  You would expect the news provider (Stuff) to include the person’s age in a story like this. We’re led to believe that the tenant Niki Rauti is rather elderly (30 years in the house). From her appearance, however, she may still be (say) in her 50s.
  
  Why would the journalist leave out an important detail such as her age, or her approximate age, if the intention was to inform readers rather than to champion the cause of a person alleged to be suffering at the hands of a heartless Government?

The poll done by Curia Marketing Research on “Property is a key issue for Kiwi Voters at the upcoming Election” September 23rd 2017 is interesting with a 1000 people polled 32%thought it was not a issue 299, 29%felt it was a very important issue 276, 29% said it was important 277 and 8% said it would determine their vote at the Election 71. but what i would like to know is how many of them voters would be happy if Labour and the Greens decide to manipulate housing property Values or crash the Market to make a large ajustment in housing property values would that have any influence on who they voted for. Still in saying that the poll does not favor either side as you don’t still know who they prefer.

Had the misfortune to listen to NZTalk ZB yesyerday afternoon.
A news cut stated that the visiting American Rex Tillerson was flipped the bird as he was travelling through Wellington.
The male host then stated “lets be honest everybody hates america”
To say I was enraged was an understatement.
Fucking liberal pants wetting , soft ,wanker.
I believe that USA is far from perfect ,but as a country we should show respect and work with leaders to set an example of how we would like to be treated.
Host of any show that states what an entire country believes based on his voting bent shows ignorance and contempt for the wider public.

‘A Northland man has been arrested for stealing from an ambulance while medics were at his house saving a family member’s life.

Senior Sergeant Brian Swann, of Mid North police, said St John Ambulance was called to a medical emergency on Pembroke St in Moerewa just after midnight on Thursday.

Ambulance staff were giving potentially life-saving treatment to a patient suffering a seizure when a man at the address entered the ambulance cab and allegedly helped himself to an iPad.

Medics called police when they discovered the iPad worth $1100 was missing.’

‘In 2012 thieves raided an ambulance while paramedics were working on a patient in Whangarei.

In that case a $40,000 defibrillator – a machine used to re-start stopped hearts – was taken along with first aid equipment.

The defibrillator was found by a police dog after it was thrown over a fence. It had to be sent away for recalibration, depriving Whangarei of one of the life-saving machines while tests were carried out to ensure it was still working properly.’

I suspect it will be one of the usual suspects followed by the usual outcome which will be nicey touchy feely but no retribution or contrition, nothing; followed by all the usual handwringing about ‘a good boy’, ‘tuning his life around’

    I remember a generation or so ago a guy I worked with was cycling to work and got knocked off his bike. Someone stole it while he was getting first aid.
    I remember about two generations ago as I cycled up Bowen St a wanker in a suit opened his car door and knocked me over. He cursed me as I lay on the ground and checked his door to make sure there was no damage.
    I had just about the only bike in Wellington back then!

      You are quite right, Longknives. There is no reason for the state to prohibit an adult’s consumption of the drug of an individual’s choice, be it tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, methamphetamine or pineapple lumps.
      Nice to see you getting with a liberal programme.
      You would find that legalising these substances would lower the crime rate, save enormous police, court and prison costs, and also have enormous health benefits.

Over a quarter of a million people in NZ on anti depressants of some sort and numbers rising fast!.
Are we really that unwell as a nation or are we just becoming a country of hypochondriacs.

  I actually wonder whether a Muslim mayor of London is actually going to take much action against terrorism that is fermented by his Muslim compatriots? I know that seems harsh but experience shows that Muslims are far more attached to their religion than to their western country.

How will they do that without nationalising the building industry?
How many new tradies will Auckland need and where will they live?
Will the Government become a mandatory priority buyer for all building supplies?
What about the rest of the country?
Will building and resource consents for govt houses be processed in priority to that of joe blog who wants to build a bedroom for his growing family?
How will they get over the red tape and problems like Mrs Rauti [or do they already have a handle on her to embarrass the government?].
How many shortcuts will builders, under pressure to complete within budget, take?

  That’s part of our real housing problem. The enormous unexpected demand can’t be filled overnight. It was not reasonable to plan for it either as the potential demand was then only speculative but any provision requires great upheaval.
  It reminds me of post war when the country went into overdrive to provide accommodation. Emergency planning measures and authorisation may be needed as well as a boost in building resources.

Artist Banksy’s attempt to influence the U.K election has been stopped. He was offering “collectible” art pieces to anyone who voted against the Conservatives.

Banksy’s election stunt has backfired amid a police investigation as the artist withdrew the offer of a free print to people who vote against the Conservatives.

The controversial street artist said he had been “warned” by the Electoral Commission that his offer could “invalidate” the election.

The mysterious artist had offered prints of a new limited edition artwork to people in seats around Bristol formerly held by Conservative MPs.

Avon and Somerset Police are also investigating the offer, which Banksy launched last week, after receiving a number of complaints.

Originally the artist said this print would be released on June 9, the day after the election. It would only available to registered voters in the Bristol North West, Bristol West, North Somerset, Thornbury, Kingswood and Filton constituencies.

“Simply send in a photo of your ballot paper from polling day showing you voted against the Conservative incumbent and this complimentary gift will be mailed to you,” his original message said.

I realise you dearly love little Tinkerbelle and he/she is the apple of your eye but unfortunately S&S is not feeling the same level of love at the moment.
The problem you see is every time I mow the lawn your darling comes straight round and shits all over the place which is a really nice gesture but it is starting to wear a bit thin.
So my advice would be to maybe keep a closer watch on wee Tinkerbelle because S&S is more than happy to implement some affirmative action.

The Saudi foreign minister called on Qatar’s rulers to end their support for the Muslim Brotherhood, the Palestinian militant group Hamas and what he called “hostile media” (al Jazeera media suppressed to the will of Sisi and the House of Saud King).

The reason Trump is going along with this

1. He supports the leaders of Egypt and Saudi Arabia against both MB and free media.
2. He supports Israel against Hamas and Iran.

So this is exploited by SA and Egypt to single out Qatar as a nation supporting terrorism (it does so no more than Saudi Arabia itself) – and Trump calls this a victory after his call for the ME to oppose terrorism.

It is actually a victory for the dictatorships of Cairo, Riyadh and also Israel.

The latter being made clear by the USA preparing to leave the UN Human Rights Council – not because of its pandering to Islamic nations and tyrants in general – but simply for criticism of Israel.

Trump is fast becoming a poodle of strong men and Israel who easily manipulate him.

  Because he values their “help” over North Korea – but fails to notice that every measure taken by China to sanction Pyongyang is balanced by increased Russian support, so it has no impact on their becoming an inter-continental nuclear power.
  
  Once that stage is reached, South Korea has two options, pay protection to the north (and ask the USA forces to leave) or develop their own nuclear weapons.
  
  However at this point Beijing may/will offer to guarantee South Korea if the US stops military aid to Taiwan. It will call this a constraint on further nuclear proliferation (it wants to prevent Japan and Taiwan doing this as US security guarantees evaporate).
  
  All the while China continues on its other first outer ring phase, the South China sea fake islands being militarised and the nations of ASEAN kowtowing to this Chinese determined border (in violation of international law) and requesting the USA does not contend against it so as to preserve peace.
  
  The second outer ring phase involves regional hegemony over ASEAN, removal of US bases (Philippines) and military presence. And economic (trade) pressure on Japan to remove US bases and constrain its military spending.
  
  The third phase (half share of the Pacific to Hawaii) is to have the world recognise the USA as a continental power, no longer with the EU in NATO (common goal with Russia) or others in ANZUS.
  
  This is way over Trump’s little isolationist America first head and do not they not know it (as do those in Jerusalem and Riyadh).

      I have always maintained that the postwar move from single-income households to double-income households (as the norm) weakened the family structure, assisted by the rise in the welfare state funded by the greater income tax flow.
      This move happened worldwide.
      This transformation is less pronounced in Japan (and goodness only knows, she has enough problems as it is…)

        It is important to differentiate between domestic violence and domestic terrorism. New Zealand does have an appalling record of domestic violence thst will take generations to get on top of. Changing male attitudes and perceptions towards women through increased education and awareness takes time but thankfully in New Zealand I believe as a nation we are moving in the right direction.
        Domestic terrorism however is almost similar to domestic violence with an extra impenetrable layer added to it. Breaking through that layer is challenging especially in Europe where so many angry young men feel isolated from the wider community. These young men in many cases have a history of criminality and violence and because of their inability to adapt and change they isolate themselves and develope extreme behaviours.
        In the UK there are thousands of muslims who have adapted and get on with life without any problems. And then there are the angry young men with a chip on their shoulders who believe the world had treated them unfairly.These are the trouble makers who go on to perform extreme acts of terrorism fuelled by an imperfect ideaology preached to them by other imperfect men.
        In the UK the public has had enough, they are angry and soon a backlash will occur. Violence unfortunately begets violence.Two wrongs don’t make a right but when pushed people do extraordinary things.
        If the attacks continue the mosques in London will burn. To prevent this occuring is in the hands of the Islamic communities in the UK. As Winston Peters alluded they have to get their houses in order, stop the terror.

Bizarrely you suggest that people like me would burn down mosques and attack muslims in the street.I would do no such thing.However I cannot speak for the people of the UK who feel threatened and intimidated.
Like I said violence begats violence and I genuinely fear for the peaceful followers of Islam who may fall victim to the blind rage of retribution.
I will reiterate that down at the local mosque Imans have to work harder to stop those that fight for ISIS and not welcome them back when they return.

  Naturally these counter-examples are like rubber bullets, bouncing off the thick sheeple’s skulls without even making them blink and occasionally making you a bit angry, but nothing more.
  
  Just because stephie is a feeble-minded fool doesn’t mean, in this case, he is wrong.
  
  The West is being setup for a war between Christians and Muslims. I’ve been telling you this here since this blog started (2003 I think) and step by step it’s coming true. This latest escalation in the Muslim Euro-immigration courtesy of taking out the African bulwark against such (Libya), is just a mere other step along the path.
  
  The thing the feeble-minded stephie has got right and all you sheeple have got completely and utterly wrong is: not all Muslims are bad.
  
  Discern the difference. Because by conflating them together you are acting no differently than the pre-war Germans did. And you have their history to learn from, so if you make the same mistake, God will not be so merciful to you as no doubt He was, to them.
  
  As to why good Muslims don’t speak out as you sheeple expect them to, the Muslim talking to me today told me they live by Inshallah. He didn’t say this was the reason, but that’s what he said they live by. And rightly or wrongly I draw the conclusion this is why they don’t even though as we all know it would be in their best interests to do so.
  
  But they decide not and fair enough too, if that is their reasoning.
  
  Of course if you’re not a Christian which most of you aren’t, you will have no idea of the significance of Inshallah to a Christian or a Muslim and how it could possibly serve a s justification for such.

      That is a very good question.
      
      The fanatic will be so close to all of the above that there will be no space in which to draw any lines.
      
      The individual, the cell, the mosque, the sect and the religion need to be pushed further apart from each other, and into the spaces between need to be inserted: the non-believers, the State, secular society, the other sects of Islam, and the other players in the modern world.
      
      The isolation (largely self-imposed) of young Muslims in society is not a good thing.
      
      If you immigrate to a country and find yourself gravitating to the enclave, then you are not ready for your new country, and your new country is not ready for you.
      
      Although it is natural for birds of a feather to flock together, it is not desirable for society as a whole.

        That’s a good point about being ready for migration.
        
        The Chinese who came to NZ from the gold rush times until about the end of World War 2 faced fairly intense racism. For example, there was a poll tax. An example of local discrimination was that a local body might specifically bar Chinese males from mixed (that is men and women) swimming sessions at council-owned pools.
        
        Yet these folk did not turn in on themselves in isolation. They endured. Many, even most, prospered through hard work and saving, and some became important and respected members of their whole community. Most of these old NZ Chinese families have at least one member who has married into another NZ ethnic community.
        
        I doubt that young Muslims in Western countries today face anywhere near the prejudice and discrimination those Chinese families faced, yet it is they rather than Chinese of colonial days who have rejected assimilation.

  – What is the true reason?
  – What is the end game?
  
  I see on Kiwiblog a lot of resentment towards the migrants (well deserved) but this is merely a symptom.
  
  We need to ask ourselves who it the true enemy as otherwise we’re going to end up in a civil war with Islam that will destroy us both.

      The truth is you or I or Reid can’t prove for a fact that such a letter was written but that rather than just copy/pastingthe first link you find from a Google search, thay your curiosity should be piqued can best be summarised by Henry Ford’s quote when asked about him republishing the supposedly “forged” Protocols of the Elders of Zion:
