Climate change has been identified as one of the world’s most wicked problems. However, most governments have been slow to respond to the challenge of climate mitigation and adaptation. This course will help you to understand the size of the problem and policy options that could start to make a difference.

You will be presented with the evidence as to why climate change is a growing problem for our society. Starting with early data produced from ice cores millions of years ago through to the latest thinking on the action required to address the problem, this course will equip you to identify key strategies for your organisation or government to implement a mitigation agenda.

Starts April 17, 2018
10 weeks, 8 – 10 hours per week.

    The “marine heatwave” that’s engulfed New Zealand this summer made the Tasman Sea the warmest it ever had been for December.
    
    And now meteorologists say it could energise a storm forecast to hit the country early next week.
    
    At its peak, the La Nina-fuelled marine heatwave pushed sea surface temperatures to more than 6C above normal in some parts of the Tasman.
    
    Warmer water: good for pilots ending up in the drink!
    
    HEATWAVE TO ‘DAMPEN DOWN’ NEXT MONTH
    MetService meteorologist Lisa Murray said some the summer had began with waters in some places around New Zealand being 4C warmer than normal for that time of year. It had also had a big impact on some of the weather we’d seen so far in the season, she said.
    
    “Put simply; warmer water evaporates more which increases the amounts of water particles into the air, so when the water particles condense there is more latent heat released.”
    This latent heat was a key ingredient to lows deepening rapidly – or even explosively.
    
    “An example of sea surface temperatures contributing to the development of on intense low, was the low which caused flooding and coastal inundation in many areas including Auckland, Coromandel, Thames, Christchurch and Wellington in the first few days of this year.”

        What human activity has done is cause Earth to retain more energy. This is well understood science. “Settled”. More energy means weather events can be worse.

        Germany had a hiccup due to closing nuclear plants. Nevertheless huge amounts of electricity are generated by renewables, with much more in the pipeline. Some days customers are paid to consume electricity, so much is available.

    Always showing the book cover, multiple times, they even did a story at Whitcoulls- where you could ‘buy the book’ with more pictures of the cover again.
    Every day there is a new angle, and as there is no real visuals for that ‘strange written thing, a book’ so they show more pictures of the cover.

    Vic Parking is right. The whole thing is a set up by the Democrats. That’s why minority whip Dick Durbin has gone on the record confirming Trump’s use of profanity and having vapours about it.
    First thing is that Lyndon Johnson used profanity all the time when he was president.
    Second thing is that the bipartisan meeting on camera with Trump and Republicans and Democrats went very well. It showed Trump in a good light and made real bipartisan compromise possible on the thorny subject of immigration.
    
    The Democrats can’t allow Trump to look good. So they have intentionally scuttled the meeting by saying that when the cameras were off Trump called Haiti a shit hole. And confirmed it on the record.
    
    The Democrats have intentionally decided to be the resistance and not cooperate with trump at all. They have intentionally scuttled the bipartisan progress for political gain. In the process they are quite happy to sacrifice the so called dreamers.
    
    They don’t actually care about the dreamers. If they did they wouldn’t be stirring up animus against trump. They are happy to sacrifice the dreamers for political power. All they want to do is bring down trump. Everything else is just commentary.

      This discussion about Trump’s remarks ( which are verified) misses the point. He is probably right that Haiti is a shithole give Papa Doc and the earthquake as well as sundry hurricanes. He is probably right about bits of Africa, although describing the whole continent that way seems a bit broad brush. Equally he was wrong to use that term on the record as it makes him appear crude and ill advised but probably no big deal considering the other things he has said.
      
      The problem is that he asked why America was getting immigrants from Shit holes like Haiti, Africa and ( I think ) central American countries and not from Norway. It was not lost on anyone anywhere that the immigrants he does not want are black or brown and the ones he does want are white. The Charlottesville crowd hear untermenschen bad, aryan good.
      
      This does not make Trump a Nazi but it certainly gets him the support of those who are and it makes him more and more beholden to his “base”.
      
      America needs a President who can bring the country together and Trump could have been the man as he is not ideological . He is putting himself into an increasingly unpleasant corner.

David Perdue and Tom Cotton , who were at the meeting don’t recall the remarks but confirm Trump called out the imbalance in the current immigration system.

Will this liberal-Leftist voice stop the paid-circulation slide of the Christchurch Press?

An interesting name has cropped up in the Christchurch Press in a restaurant review that lambasted a restaurant for terms on its menu. Examples were “Wang, wang ten to cool” and “dumprings”.

The review is by Alastair Paulin, who is listed as a “news director” of the newspaper. His criticism has been backed by Dame Devoid, by multiculturists and by some sensitive Chinese.

Google searches indicated that Paulin held a similar post with Fairfax in Australia.

More interesting, he has held editorial posts with Mother Jones, the “alternative” American magazine named for a trade union activist. The “media bias” link below places Mother Jones well to the political Left.

It is published by the Foundation for National Progress, which is described by one internet source asa “network of independent journalism organisations, including local and regional news outlets, indigenous and ethnic media, and media representing communities of colour.“

Michael Moore, the controversial film maker edited Mother Jones for a short time in 1986. Moore fell out with the hierarchy, sued and used settlement mokney to finance his film, Roger and Me.

Then he talks about how in Canada they are told Canada has to become a majority foreigner country because they’re told they’re racist and that proves they aren’t. Except a study done half a decade ago shows that Canada was the least racist country in the world. India was the most racist country, by far. Then China very closely behind. Then the Middle East. Then Africa. West countries and south America countries with western legacies were by far the least racist countries, objectively.

So the left in Canada argues the least racist people in the world (Canada), have to import millions of the most racist people in the world, in order to combat racism.

Then he compares Haiti vs the Dominican Republic and tries to find out the difference.

So the two schools of thought:

Environmental, moral (miasma theory)

– military incursions into Haiti – which there were.

But there were much worse into the Dominican Republic.

Has nothing to do with poverty levels inside of Haiti.

  They’ll also confiscate your kids from you if you want to bring them as a Christian and the state disagrees with that choice of religion. Because Islam is fine in Canada. Islam doesn’t pay any taxes, but it’s fine for them to raise the next generation of Canadian welfare recipients

  There is less then a 6% chance that a kid aged 4 who watches youtube for 30 minutes and takes the fancy of mutilating themselves and becoming transgender will have the same idea at age 18. But denying a 4 year old from committing child abuse against itself in an irrevocable decision that will most likely lead to suicide is child abuse?
