GG Dame Patsy Reddy was positively salivating at the prospect of Obama coming here next month, and with that she confirmed her political leanings and rationalised her enthusiastic endorsement of the dodgy Coalition of Losers.
Why did I think that the GG, like the Queen, is supposed to be politically neutral?

        I heard Cindy interviewed – no, led down a friendly path – by Mihinarangi Forbes on RNZ and I have never heard so much side-stepping and prevarication. Laced with ”that’s something we will look out” and ”I think we need to have a conversation about that” and ”we haven’t worked out a timeframe yet”.
        Utterly astounding. It is a heady mix of bluster, cliche, ad-libbing, side-stepping and I have a growing feeling that even her most ardent followers are beginning to see that it is all promise and no substance.

Now Winston admits he has ‘critical’ information he is not entitled to have, but will use that to his advantage to formulate proceedings against those he has accused of acquiring ‘critical’ information they were not entitled to have, and supposedly used that to their advantage.

    And Cam Slater was tagging along on Whaleoil saying that Tim Watkins still faced the high jump over this. Tim would not have written that article (especially taking a pot at Winston’s lawyer) unless he was totally in the clear and had no residual obligations such as maintaining confidentiality) as it would be seen as an affront to the authority and dignity of the court. He is being slightly circumspect so as not to risk renewed legal action but one can read between the lines easily enough.
    Meanwhile Cam is citing a couple of journos who think Bill should go – I cannot think why journos think they can decide political party leaderships. Whaleoil is fast becoming an echo chamber and hence its usefulness is diminishing.

      Wrong. So far he hasn’t even issued proceedings, and perjury is very difficult to prove, particularly as he doesn’t seem to have made any statements or declarations. As to s115, he is not prosecuting anyone for an offence. He is threatening to sue them in the civil jurisdiction. The police haven’t been involved.

        He did issue proceedings to seek discovery and this would have needed to be supported by statements on oath showing it was more than a fishing expedition. The responses would also have been on oath. He (and his lawyer) would have been very careful to craft things to get the discovery orders sought while not telling any fibs.

It’s hard to imagine that the whatever information was provided was provided without legal advice so presumably, what was provided was in fact what was required to be provided.   In all the reports there have been on this matter, no one, including Peters, has defined what they are talking about.
  Does Winston Peters “private details” refer to just the fact there was an anomaly with payments which he promptly sorted, or is there actual detail of amounts, durations, interest, penalties or blame? – that is: actual itemised detail apart from what Peters has voluntarily disclosed to the media himself.
  
  It makes quite a difference, one is possible hearsay, the other is actual knowledge.
  If it is just the ‘event’, it could have been raised by any random witness who noted Peters’ sudden travel at the time and knew where he was going, or saw him in the MSD building even …
  or on the other hand: someone who had greater detail than the vague information Winston indicated was available to him, that he asked for only a total of what was owed. 
  
  Since the whole matter was done and dusted history, with a departmental letter commending Winston for his prompt co-operation, before anything reached the media, and was an exemplary reaction when compared to Metiria Turei’s fraud, can anyone explain how it could disadvantaged Winston’s Election campaign –
  had he not acted seemingly like a total klutz with the whole gamut of victim card, accusations to conspiracy status, witch hunt and now legal vendetta?

      Exactly. Hootton and the Wellington bubble have repeated continually and inferred it was one of the 6 without any knowledge. The inference has always been because the suspect had previous form.
      
      However, in this case had National leaked anything it would have backfired on them. so, it is highly unlikely it was anyone other than Peters that leaked.
      
      As I wrote on Friday, Peters now that he has created his mess, he now has to find a way out of it, without drawing further attention to his stupidity and arrogance.

  The beginning of February is a daft time to have a holiday. It is just after kids go back to school making the first week or so into a half on/half off week where nobody gets engaged.
  
  Rather have it during our almost 4 month drought between Queen’s Birthday and Union Day (aka Labour day). Split the difference and make it the first Monday after 15th August.
  
  Or you can make it 3 August and celebrate the day that cmm came to New Zealand.

I thought BE did not go to Waitangi so to demonstrate that the national day could be recognised elsewhere in the country with other iwi who had signed the treaty in different locations with the added bonus of avoiding the appalling behaviour and lack of respect for the man and his office shown by the hosts in particular the Harawira clan.

Did I miss this little gem last year? In every place in Nil Ziland where there may be difficulty in understanding the language, a translator is provided and I thought BE signed and signalled his thoughts quite distinctly by holding the centre finger skywards in the general direction of maori in Northland.

We are having a bbq in the back garden tomorrow with nary a thought about Waitangi. The TV will stay off to avoid any ‘news’ from the north with all the ‘reporters’ screwing their faces up in attempts to pronounce a maori word precisely while mangling the English language beyond recognition.

  Nothing could be further from the truth. What Pollard is perhaps loathe to admit is that Political Correctness is the ugly spawn on Communism, not Fascism.
  
  Political Correctness started in thinktank in Germany in 1923 called the Institute for Social Research (better known as the Frankfurt School) by a group of academics trying to find a way to further the Communist revolution as they couldn’t understand why the Russian Revolution didn’t take hold in the West.

His fundamental beliefs where that Liberal Democracy should be eliminated as it was too centered on individualism, was too centered on liberty and individual rights and therefore selfish.         Fascism is of the left and Hitler was definitively a socialist (read Otto Wagener, Memoirs of a Confidant and Hermann Rauschning, Hitler Speaks). He certainly dealt to communists (even though he had belonged to the German Communist Party), but that made him no less a socialist.

  Something near and dear to my heart. A few years back, I was (un)fortunate enough to run foul of a boss who couldn’t deal with an employee (me) who caught him out lying to the CEO. When I called him on it, my role suddenly and mysteriously vanished as part of a restructure. When that was challenged and it all fell over, within a week one of my team, a direct report, claimed I had sexually harassed her, and I was put on gardening leave.
  
  Thankfully another of my team (it pays to own IT and the email archives), bless her socks, found an email from the boss to the staff member outlining what she should say, to whom and when, and providing details of what the actual offence was.
  
  I took that email with me to my last meeting at the office and tabled it with the head of HR and my boss. He went a lovely shade of white, and nearly passed out. I outlined how much I was going to be paid to exit and not sue the organisation, and left the building. Cheque turned up that afternoon. Boss was sacked and hasnt held a senior role since – I see him every so often, I always wave.
  
  If this register is of accusations, then I too will be protesting in the streets. Fun time to be a man.

        Happened to me also about 28 years ago. I was in discussion with my boss and a female staff member, when another woman, who was very well endowed in the boob area, walked past. My boss made a humorous but flattering comment about her; the woman who was in the discussion later told the well endowed lady what had transpired, and the joke the boss made.
        That woman then laid a complaint against me – I never made the comment or replied, but I did chuckle at the time.
        The reason why she laid the complaint against me, was because the boss was bonking her at the time, and didn’t want to complain about him.
        With the bosses assistance, I got the complaint dismissed very quickly.
        Some women really can be bitches – my wife finds the same working in a shop with several other women.
        The joys of gender difference. 🙂

    I saw a guy get forced out for highly dubious claims in one of my workplaces (public sector). He was bit of an odd fish but I would have been very surprised if he had done the things he was apparently claimed to have done. The whole sad episode was engineered by a coven of vicious little cows in one of the admin teams. Poor bloke never stood a chance.

      It happens Huevon, and more often than I had realised. Thankfully I have a very good friend who is a partner at a Big Auckland Law Firm who owed me a favour or two, and I got some very good advice.
      
      Sadly, it also put my then wife through the wringer, and she struggled with it for a long time. She had built up a good relationship with the boss’es wife, and that of course got blown out of the water, when his wife backed him. Me, I was happy to take the money and move on.

  Going by media reports, some people’s definition of sexual harasment is very broad, not to mention whacky as all hell.
  
  Remember the woman in the UK tube station who accused a guy of sexual assault, and he was only exonerated by the ubiquitous video cameras.
  
  I’ve seen plenty of sexual advances made by women to men and women, in the workplace and out of it. If not accepted they usually accept ‘no thanks’ and move on. It’s what people do though chaps can be more persistent. But now it’s time for men to report these to the HR department and make sure the reports get logged on this heinous register.
  
  I wonder if gay advances are recorded as such.

      If people believe they have been sexually harassed doing their job, they can take an allegation to their employer and insist it is recorded on the register. Their employer will be able to advise if a police or HRC complaint can be laid, and support the complainant to do so.
      
      Raising awareness of sexual harassment may have unintended consequences.
      
      If the instances mentioned by Surely Knott are taken as complaints to the police or HRC the perpetrator will have to front up, and maybe pay up.

All I see is how well that the COL has done during the 100 days – now 3 years.
But what has it done ?
Formed Committees, spent money on nothingness and soft feely and got pregnant, although that was only now to a few, including the Queenmaker Peters.
Whilst we not actually lied to we were seriously misled – close to a lie if ever there was one.
Waitangi is a Maori fest from which she expects to get an easy ride from Maori who will want their financial and other pound of flesh.
History has shown that with Maori there is no halfway house – Honky stole the world from them and they expect to be paid for it ever in every way possible.
The COL and the temporary Maori PM will give then the world whenever they can.
Disappointing really which is why the majority of people, not the media, consider it just another day off and getting sadly more irrelevant.
See that the Tii Ti Marae are upset at not being able to slang any Government as they have done in the past. The Haraweras’ will be unhappy but the old witch is still there to hold the Cindy Princesses hand. Hope she washes it afterwards.

Recruiting firm is advertising for a CEO for Horownenua District Council. I thought the present CEO was throwing in the sponge (who could blame him if he did?). until I found he had been there five years and it is mandatory for the Council to cast the net for a new CEO (a two year extension is possible but councils do not generally use it).
Will be a bit interesting as there is a divided council although it seems to be the Mayor v rest of council and CEO. Presumably the Mayor will try and be at the centre of the process (which would be usual) while the councillors will be trying to isolate the Mayor from the process as far as possible.
The CEO’s position does seem to be the job from hell but presumably there will be applicants prepared to give it a go. Good luck to them.

  Tauranga has put the Council’s CEO job up for grabs as it is anticipated that the current incumbents contract may not be renewed, as it was when he was CEO of Wellington before. So Tauranga got him under the old boy’s scheme in local Government.
  His predecessor went to Auckland where good luck to Auckland.

The situation in NZ is no different after decades of reorganisation/amalgamations etc. Largely because we do not have true “Local” government that is accountable to anybody!

    Tauranga either had to advertise the job and re-appoint or extend the appointment two years. There are advantages and disadvantages to councils, incumbents and other applicants going either way.
    In fairness to Gary Poole (Tauranga CEO) he provided 15 years (ie two re-appointments) of excellent service to Wellington and indeed councillors spoke very highly of his performance. I suspect he finally fell out of favour for political reasons such as contracting out work that was done in house.

    It is the lackeys who still have the overwhelming majority around the council table and have mostly dealt with the dysfunction by effectively isolating the mayor. As long as mayors are elected by residents (instead of by fellow councillors), the potential for dysfunction will remain. It is a dilemma facing Parliament – whether to have democratically elected Mayors or whether to allow democratically elected councils appoint the Mayor – public opinion favours democratically Mayors even though this does not always result in a harmonious council.
    In fairness to CEO’s, there is a large range of responsibilities forced on councils by law and councillors rely on the CEO to ensure these responsibilities are properly discharged. So if someone is upset at being pinged for not having a dog on a lead, just remember that she would be very upset if her dog got mauled and the council’s dog control operation was ineffective.

      As one who has been on the receiving end of decisions made by current CEO, previous mayor, and his lackeys, I think I am fully qualified to offer my opinion. They are laws unto themselves, take no notice of anyone other than their followers, and to be quite frank, find the truth something of an economical embarrassment. I personally do not like the current mayor’s politics, but he is a more honest and straight to deal with than his predecessor.

        Under previous mayor changes were foisted upon a group of rural ratepayers (of which I was one) causing devaluing effects on properties with absolutely no consultation and this was at the behest of CEO.     The ‘local authority’ would mean the full Council at a properly constituted meeting. Normally a Council would leave the hard work to a committee for efficiency and to help maintain confidentiality. While a Mayor can appoint the deputy (as long as Council does not oust the deputy), nothing in the above gives the power to the Mayor to appoint the CEO although the Mayor would generally give the good tidings to the successful candidate. The Mayor does have a casting vote if the vote is otherwise tied. Hopefully a harmonious Council would take a straw vote with public excluded and unanimously vote for the preferred candidate as a display of full support for the incoming CEO.

        This ‘majority’ of ratepayers can make their views known to their local councillors who can take this into account when appointing a new CEO. The Council is quite free to appoint an alternative CEO if it so chooses. An incumbent Council CEO has no legally recognised expectation of re-appointment so there is no downside to a Council who appoints an alternative CEO.

  It’s often pointed out that I am the most “alt-right” person on Kiwiblog and you know what, it is probably true.
  
  So let me address these 4 so called “characteristics”:
  
  1) I don’t “hate” or “fear” Islam. I’ve spent significant time in Turkey & Malaysia and found the Muslims there to be some of the kindest people on the planet. (I haven’t been to Pakistan & Somalia but imagine they aren’t much fun!).
  
  What I do “hate” is Western Governments bombing Muslims around thus radicalising them and then inviting said people into our countries. A more lunatic policy one could not imagine. Let Muslims live in Islamic countries, Europeans live in European countries – that sums up the alt-right attitudes towards Islam.
  
  2) Yes we identify as being “European”. All we want is the same policies that other non-European countries seem to be allowed to have and as we have done for most of history. If wanting to live in countries where there is a shared history, culture, outlook and identity makes us “supremicists”, then so be it.
  
  3) Trump is neither here nor there. Most “Alt-righters” don’t do left/right politics as they recognise the whole system is corrupt. Trump is the symptom of the disease rather than the “saviour”. He is actually the revolt of the ordinary Ma & Pa in America sick of the bullshit and given a 2 party tick box choice, is the logical choice.
  
  4) We don’t “hate” Jews. We hate hypocrisy and double standards. We “hate” Marxism in all its formats for the wrecking ball it is taking to our Nations.

After attending a Baptist funeral on Sunday and listening to handwringing about Syrians I did some further investigations and discovered pilot schemes set up in NZ for June 2018.

Further investigations led me to the article above which has confirmed many suspicions I had with respect to the UNHCR.

This may well be old news to many here but it appears we are simply poodles bowing down to the UN’s immigration edicts.

Watched a good bit of the sevens yesterday. I had two major impressions. The rules are too complicated and they are open to too much interpretation by the ref’s. I could see the players struggling from game to game. This is not a criticism of the refs but the rules. The one area of agreement between refs was the high tackle. The players however soon clicked on and dived into tacklers to try and draw a penalty.
Second NZ were slow, tackled high, did not draw before passing and relied to much on the “i” in team, which there isn’t.
Sevens is the best form of Rugby as you can see what’s happening, unlike 15teens. Opposite to cricket where Test is the best and 20/20 is nothing but a crowd gathering exercise for money.

I was unfortunate enough to read the Sunday Times article by Danielle McLaughlin on the release of the memo compiled by the House Intelligence Committee.
Her story is based entirely on the rebuttals thrown out by the Democrats with zero critical analysis of what appears to be the reality of the memo.
She fails to make the point that:
1. Andrew McCabe, (Deputy Director FBI at the time) has said that no FISA warrant would have been sought without the Steele dossier.
2. The fact that the Steele dossiers political origins (bought and paid for by the Democratic National Committee purely to discredit Trump) were known to both the FBI and the Department of Justice when the FISA was applied for, but neither party advised the court.

These two points are just two among many. There is also the fact that the ONLY proven connection to Russia in US politics is with the Democrats! The Democrats are in full damage control, and the McLaughlin’s of the media just print whatever they say. Given the unadulterated dross that she throws out, how she gets to be a reporter is beyond me.

  The basic point is that the Obama administration and the Democrats spied on the Trump campaign during and after the presidential election. Spying on the opposition is what happened at watergate.
  
  It was a huge deal to the media then. The fact is the media now don’t care about any wrongdoing by the democrats. They just want to bring down Trump.

    You are not understanding stephie, so to simplify: The FBI and DOJ had a DUTY to advise the Court that the dossier provided to apply for the FISA warrant (even if it was only part of the application) was provided to the FBI and DOJ by the DNC and the Clinton Campaign (and paid for by both). This is a breach of the LAW Stephie. There are no holes in the logic, McCabe admitted under oath that the FISA application would not have gone ahead without the Steele dossier (a dossier I might add that the FBI was not able to corroborate).
    The fact that Steele himself provided other evidence that the FBI and DOJ relied on is another nail in the Democrats coffin.
    The Democrats have been wailing about “National Security” being compromised, which has turned out to be a load of rubbish. The only thing compromised is the Democrats. Who have been caught spying on the opposition election team. Hmm, didn’t Richard Nixon do something similar?

      Rupert Murdoch has summoned the hordes of Mordor ( aka WSJ and Fox ) to protect the black gate and in a time honoured way clamouring becomes fact.
      
      There seem to be two main points made in the Nunes memo. 1) McCabe testified that a FISA warrant to intercept Carter Page’s communications would not have been sought without relying on the Steele dossier.
      
      2) The warrant was issued in error because the judge was not told that the Clinton campaign paid for the dossier.
      
      Trump has said this is worse than Watergate ,proves there was no collusion and completely vindicates him. He may be winning the PR war.
      
      It has been difficult to challenge the two main accusations in the memo because testimony and the warrant application are classified. There is dispute about what McCabe actually said and this will presumably be clarified quite soon by release of at least that part of the transcript. It is probably contained in the Dem rebuttal memo. It is highly unlikely the FISA warrant application will be declassified for years as it apparently contains intel from foreign agencies including Australia. It should however be possible to shed some light on what part the dossier played without compromising other sources. We will have to wait and see.
      
      Some other points.
      a) Not even Trey Gowdy thinks the memo changes anything with regard to Trump and Mueller.
      b) The FISA warrant was after Page left the Trump campaign so it is clearly not proof of any spying on the campaign.
      c) Page was contacted by the FBI in 2013 and warned the Russians were trying to recruit him. The granting of the Warrant suggests he had continuing contact with them and the 3 renewals of it indicate these were continuing as a renewal is only granted with evidence of incriminating material having been found. This strongly indicates Trump had a Russian agent as a Foreign policy advisor.
      d) Trump and Nunes better hope there is no evidence of any contact between the author of the Memo and the Whitehouse. This would scarcely be believable if Nunes did not already have form in the shape of the unmasking fiasco.

        I’d suggest waripori, that with what has been seen so far, that the investigation into Trump by Mueller will continue. That’s not the issue, the issue is that the Democrats have tried to subvert an election with the assistance of FBI and DOJ staff after initiating spying on a person connected with the Trump campaign, in an effort to link activities to Trump.
        Your comment that the granting of the warrant “suggests he had continuing contact” is neither here nor there, as it wouldn’t have been granted if the court knew the source of the dossier.
        Page has been under investigation since 2013 and hasnt been accused, let alone charged with anything. So to say “it strongly suggests” is nonsense.
        As I have said, it doesn’t matter that Page had left the campaign, the ultimate result the Democrats wanted was a link between Russia and Trump, no matter how trumped up. And that is a disgrace.

        The Steele Dossier is, at least in part, almost certainly Russian security service disinformation.
        
        It is hard to imagine that that volume of information was sourced from, as Steele put it, “Senior officials in Putin’s administration” without the FSB being aware of it. Steele was very well known in Russia as an ex MI-6 officer. So if the FSB knew and it was released, then they vetted and approved it.

      I’ve got a few mates who are ex Royal Navy who served on the same ship as HRH Prince Andrew. While he seemed a bit remote, he was a typical officer, and a good pilot. However, I also heard a few comments regarding Sarah Ferguson, who, without exception, was thought of very highly by all who had dealings with her. She’s polite, charming and has a great sense of humour. She was a good match for Andrew, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they do remarry!

        Further too my comment regarding farmers and their support for the Labour led coalition, why wouldn’t they, they know a good deal when the see one .
        
        The coalition has a very good Ag Minister who knows his stuff and listens to the farmer groups, then we have the deputy PM who is the champion for
        regional NZ .
        So it is a great deal for the regions and farmers.

NIWA, the global warming religion champion, seems now to be picking a fight with New Zealand anglers.

It looks as though it wants fewer brown trout and more eels.

I’m not an angler, but I’m with river fishermen (and fisherwomen) on this one.

But does NZ need NIWA? We’ve got the Met Office and DOC and, at the best level – local – acclimatisation societies and rangers. Is NIWA anything more than Green bureaucracy?

On 23 January I reported to Auckland Council via their website that an old bedbase and a decrepit lounge suite had been dumped on the grass verge. I attached a photo to the report.

This morning (13 days later) I received an email advising that my email had been logged and would be actioned within ten working days.

This is the crap service that we pay our rates for?
Having just emailed my disgust at the service levels the supreme irony was to receive yet another autoreply that my email would be attended to in ten working days.

Auckland Council needs a full on audit from the mayor down and a massive cleanout and restructure.

  Next you will get an email saying your email has been read, and action will be taken within another 10 working days. BUT REMEMBER THAT COUNCIL ONLY WORKS 2 DAYS A WEEK, SO THIS IS STILL A MONTH AWAY.

        I just cannot believe how energies the central government bureaucracies are now to get in and sort these issues.
        
        It is enormously heartening.
        
        When releasing this year’s Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey Monday 22 January, wherever possible with the media (I had 20+ interviews that day) I made a particular point of thanking former PM English when he was Finance Minister, for getting the machinery of government engaged in these issues. Also former Reserve Bank Governor Graeme Wheeler.

I have a question based on observations.

I was under the impression that as a young, woman PM who is pregnant, we are to treat her no differently than we would a middle aged man who happens to be PM.

This being said, why do we see her given babies to hold, and being cooed over by her supporters and the media who constantly give her time to answer questions (without actually answering them) while fawning over what a wonderful young woman she is.

  I’m not sure that you should take too much from either the Nunes memo or the Democratic members’ rebuttal (if the reported leak of that is accurate).
  Even your National Review correspondent doesn’t think the Nunes memo provides any basis to counter the special prosecutor’s investigation, although Trump and his fans seems to think the memo has proved ‘collusion is dead’.
  As a number of commentators have noted, what the Nunes memo has provided is some talking points the the President can point to an attack hos own law enforcement agencies. That will be lapped up by the celebrated ‘base’.
  What is lacking, and will probably remain lacking in the Intelligence Committee process, is any full accounting of the facts behind the FISA warrants.
  Even your guy Andrew McCarthy’s piece is full of ‘for all we know…would have likely’, ‘the FBI seems never to have’, ‘from everything we have heard thus far’ and the like.

    Collusion isn’t dead mikenmild, it’s just that they’re looking for it in the wrong place. There’s a clear case of collusion with the Russians right under their noses – the Steele Dossier is collusion. If some or all of the data in it can definitely be traced to the FSB as suspected, that makes the lack of action on it even more reprehensible.
    
    I see the issue for Mueller is the train of circumstances that lead to his appointment.
    Rosenstein writes a memo recommending that Trump fire Comey, and Trump agrees and does so. Comey leaks classified information to a friend with the express desire to get a special counsel appointed – and specifically wanted Mueller. Mueller is then appointed by Rosenstein and proceeds to select a distinctly partisan team.
    
    So far there’s a blank on collusion, the three charges laid so far are for completely unrelated tax and non-declaration of being a foreign government lobbyist (Manafort) and two charges of lying to the FBI (Flynn and Papadopoulos). In Flynn’s case at least that case would seem to be on extremely shaky grounds as the interviewee was Peter Strzok who has been outed as an extreme partisan and indeed fired from the team – however Flynn did a plea bargain, probably wishes now that he hadn’t.
    
    If Mueller is now, as is rumoured, primarily pursuing obstruction of justice charges, he, and Rosenstein especially have a big problem, or even a series of problems. Rosenstein, his boss, wrote the opinion that said it was legal and advisable to fire Comey, how could he possibly allow Mueller to pursue an investigation about that ? And given that Mueller was a close friend to Comey and was appointed at least in part because Comey wanted him, he cannot be seen as impartial in the matter and must rescuse himself if he is to be ethical.
    
    Personally I think the answer is to get another specoal counsel to investigate all the issues raised – from the politicization of the FBI & DOJ starting from back in 2010/2 with Uranium One right through to the Clinton eMail investigation and the Trump campaign surveillance. Mueller is complicit and at significant risk if this happens.

      The indictment so far are harmless? Campain figures take plea bargains and you assume that the only thing they did was lie to the FBI?
      
      Mueller’s conflict of interest re his ‘close friend’ Comey? They were both senior DoJ lawyers – not the same thing. Toss in Mueller’s ‘dispute’ with Trump about golf club fees and you have a really strong case. Worse than Watergate!

We don’t know what weight the court gave the dossier or what the court was told about its origin. The person who wrote the memo might as presumably they read the warrant application but we mortals will have to wait and see if the memo writers were accurate and able to read the judges mind.

I do find your assertion that it is neither here or there whether Trump had a Russian agent as a foreign policy advisor extraordinary though. If there is an irregularity with the warrant that might get him off an espionage charge (assuming anything Page did rose to that level ) but it should concern everyone if Page was a Russian agent and was in a position to ,say, rewrite the GOP platform policy on Ukraine.

    Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page bragged that he was an adviser to the Kremlin in a letter obtained by TIME that raises new questions about the extent of Page’s contacts with the Russian government over the years.
    
    The letter, dated Aug. 25, 2013, was sent by Page to an academic press during a dispute over edits to an unpublished manuscript he had submitted for publication, according to an editor who worked with Page.
    
    “Over the past half year, I have had the privilege to serve as an informal advisor to the staff of the Kremlin in preparation for their Presidency of the G-20 Summit next month, where energy issues will be a prominent point on the agenda,” the letter reads.

        Nor’s he probably, truth be told. He does claim to be “informally advising them on how to stage…” so that could mean almost anything…or nothing. Actually, I wonder if the Russians knew that was “informally advising them”.
        
        Are you aware that by getting warrant of the type the FBI did on Page, they were able to conduct surveillance on Page’s associates up to the second degree (so contacts of contacts), which means they were able to conduct surveillance on the entire Trump campaign.
        
        And we know that surveillance was not kept secret, the NSA’s audit of FISA surveillance intel access found that 85% were conducted NOT in accordance with the strict rules, and that outside contractors without appropriate security clearances were allowed access – widely believed to be Fusion and Crowdstrike. At the same time, there was mass “unmasking” requests on the data (part of what the NSA found was illegal) including a large number apparently made in one persons name where that person, under oath says they did not make those requests.
        
        Sounds an awful lot like “someone” was using the FBI surveillance warrant on Page to eavesdrop on the entire Trump campaign both before and after the election.

    There’s a huge leap of logic in there mikenmild. Page was notified in 2013 that he was being targeted by Russian recruiters and was in fact subject to surveillance. He has not been charged so one must presume that either he is not a Russian agent of any sort or if he is, he’s an exceptionally good one at concealing his links.
    
    He’s not, as far as we know, an agent or even a wannabe agent. He’s a US citizen and entitled to all the rights such citizens have.
    
    Remember Obama whispering to the Russian foreign minister in 2012 “Tell Vladimir that I will have more flexibility after the election…” Sounds pretty suss to me, sure Barry isn’t a Russian agent ? It’s on about the same level and he sure thought the Russians were no threat at all back in 2012.

        Would any of that evidence have included confirmation of the contents of the Steele document by talking to the original sources of the shocking tell-all milky?

    I felt that way at the outset nasska. Even the so-called debates and the creepy way he stalked the crook around the stage. But by election time and after the pay for play and the GOP dirty works campaign, I was rooting for the underdog if only to piss the whole sorry lot of the Washington mafia off – GOP included. He might be vain, rude, obnoxious, have the vocabulary of a five year old and a few currents short of a fruitcake, but he ran a smart campaign and so much of what he says is right. Washington is just filthy as we’re now seeing and the GOP are part of that but at least they’ve hopped on board with this FISA business although no doubt, the fix will remain in.     Except the fact that whats being proposed here isn’t the Oregon law. AFAIA, there will be no provision for requesters to take the meds home and do it themselves. It states implicitly:
    “Should the person wish to receive the
    medication, the medical practitioner must administer it and either be available to the
    person until death occurs or arrange for another medical practitioner to be available to
    the person until death occurs. The medical practitioner must then report the death to
    the registrar within 14 working days.”
    So perhaps you;d like to do your own homework and actually deal with whats proposed? Upandcomer’s points are entirely appropriate.
