  Perhaps Steve but they have a found several ways by changing the narrative to now tell us they were not really “promises”. Most will recall the promise of 1800 more policemen to top what was being done to actually increase the ranks by National. Well it seems that young Nash has passed their “Narrative for Now” course and it seems that it was not a promise. What they meant to say was they would STRIVE TOWARDS 1800 more policemen. They are finding it such a shock by actually being in a position to deliver they need a new narrative to explain why they can’t deliver. Same old same old labour.

Interesting Stuff article by Henry Cooke ‘Where did the False Rumours Come From’. A brief summary of the article as I see it is:
1. Since the Police have stated that he is not under investigation, etc for any wrongdoing, the rumours are ‘completely false’. Spot the fallacy.
2. The rumours principally came about because of a conspiracy by Kiwiblog contributors.

  This has turned into a story about the Left slandering National and it’s supporters with false allegations.
  
  The most credible story I have heard is that these rumors came from within Labour and were just gossip about Ardern’s bit of rough. They were not politically motivated or anything new. Now she is promoted beyond her ability its a problem.

    Chortle chortle. These rumours actually started in the liebour party and were not ever politically motivated. Their origins were more the case of the inner socialist clique looking down their noses at cindy’s bit of rough. Suggesting that clarkey isn’t that highly regarded within the chardonyeh circles is something of an understatement. Never having been a unionist or a teacher, no degree in Pol Science or ‘Communications’ – just not one of the gang really. It’s somewhat ironic that they regard him as a bit thick but there ya go.
    
    Inevitably they spilled out into the beltway and public service and thence …

  DPF encourages those rumours about the PM and her partner for week after week, and then puts out a holier than thou reminder not to post defamatory comments.
  DPF banned me for two weeks for responding to flipper’s accusation of paedophilia by calling flipper a paedophile. I was wrong there, admittedly, as flipper is probably not a paedophile – he was underage, but willingly agreed to Muldoon’s demands to fellate him all those years ago.
  Now, the usual sanctimonious hypocrites (hi James Stephenson – will Keeping Stock be along soon?) will queue up to agree with DPF that some standards must be maintained.

    Was James Stephenson being sanctimonious? That wasnt my impression. He was applying Kimbo’s law which, as I understand it, is that the cogency of an argument diminishes in proportion to the use of emphatic adverbs or something like that. I thought the comment was quite clever —leaving his real meaning open.
    
    As far as the rumours are concerned, they appeared on this blog regularly over a period and I heard them from other sources before hand. Being a pedantic prick, I was inclined to wait for more public revelations before believing them. Having said that, the fact that the subject was not immediately smacked down on this blog made me wonder if there was some truth in them.
    I read an article in which DPF said that he had suspended commenters for perpetuating the rumours but that it was next to impossible to see and deal with them all.
    Which leads to inconsistency in moderation. Mikey is aggrieved that he was collared for an infingement that was, effectively, glossed over in Flipper’s case. I put that down to the theory that DPF had previously listed flipper’s previous sanctions out of alphabetical order (refer DPF’s comments policy) rather than any prejudice. It is also next to impossible to deal even handedly across the board unless dpf hires pete formerly of WOBH fame. I guess we don’t want/need that.
    
    Having said all that, there are some malicious comments and commenters around feverishly providing grist for labours “it’s National and the dirty politics again” mill and fuelling opinion pieces that say that the National Party fringe is made up of redneck grubs. I am inclined to the view that such comments and commenters should be kicked for touch but I guess they get some joy if not credibility from character assassination.
    I guess that makes me a sanctimonious as well as pedantic prick. I can live with that.

      Thanks for addressing the issue seriously. DPF has too much other trouble to stir to spend any time actually moderating the blog – so he relies on the ‘report’ mechanism. Naturally, only comments that go against the general tenor of the blog get reported, so there is an inherent bias in the moderation.
      I get that, and I have no problem with being banned for anything that violates DPF’s rules. While I’m still here, though, I’m not going to stop calling out preaching wankers like James Stephenson/Keeping Stock.

After the rumours were addressed in public, he then chose to make a post here about defamatory comments being unacceptable.         KS, milky’s been under enormous pressure with this COL screwing up on a daily basis, the lies, flips, flops and now of course, realising that pugwash completely screwed up the numbers so that they can’t afford to save all the children dying in poverty or keep the pensioners warm this winter after pissing all the money away on student voters. Having ztev and gabby in the naughty corner hasn’t helped – its left him having to shoulder the entire load.   If Cindy wins again in 2020 it will be because of Winston Peters still being around and still leading NZF.
  
  If he’s not around AND NZ First manage to get over 5% it’ll be 50/50 which way they go as there will be pressure on the “new” party to distance itself from the leadership of the old.
  
  Baring any new parties entering the fray in 2020 this is what I see is the scenario.

  Grant Miller has written an excellent article, something expressed by a range of honest, concerned and principled people. But it doesn’t really describe the problem. The reason for the rampant intolerance of the ‘gay mafia’ is nothing to do with tolerance, rationality, or anti-discrimination.
  
  It’s the conviction of the gay lobby that homosexuality must be ‘normalised’ – that is, become both ‘normal’ and ‘a norm’ in order for them to be treated ‘equally’. The only way to achieve that is to ensure that heterosexuality MUST be seen NOT TO BE ‘normal’ or ‘a norm’. Neither can there be a ‘normal’ male/female gender, ‘normalised’ heterosexual relationship, or ‘nuclear family’ – any culture, philosophy, belief system, social organisation predicated on the concept of heterosexuality must be amended or eradicated.
  
  I could say, rationally, that the species is dependent on procreation, which is itself dependent on heterosexuality, not just in producing offspring, but also for the Darwinian notion of adaptation to a changing environment through successive generations of offspring. On its own, that makes heterosexuality the only viable ‘normal’ and ‘norm’ – the only viable option of survival.
  
  Despite that, we now have national health systems claiming that men/males can conceive and give birth, political systems filling gender quotas with males who claim to be female (or vice versa presumably), and demographics producing birth certificates identifying two men/women as the ‘birth parents’ of a child. They’re also insistent that heterosexuals should share in the more transient nature of their relationships, greater promiscuity, and doubts about their ‘genders’ – no matter the mental, physical, or emotional cost.
  
  It is as sensible as claiming that it is ‘normal’ and should be a ‘norm’ for human beings to be deaf, dumb, blind, or otherwise challenged/dysfunctional. Shades of that shone through in the debate over ‘Alfie’. It’s happened at a time of a ‘perfect storm’ of denial of nature as well – when ‘health’ movements have decided that all natural adaptation, like building natural immunity (or death) from exposure to disease, weather etc., should cease. Human beings are now considered to be in their ‘ultimate’ state, it seems, and either frozen in scientific ‘amber’ or changeable only with the conscious intent of scientists; notwithstanding that the equally primary fixation is with stopping the environment changing.
  
  It is ironic that the increasingly atheistic world is prone to allegations of the ‘faithful’ believing in fairies or fairytales, when they are prepared to accept outright lies and distortions of obvious reality – simply because, like primitive peoples, they WANT to believe it or FEEL it’s a good idea or find reality inconvenient to the way they WISH the world was. Heads firmly buried in sand, fingers in ears, screaming ‘la-la-la-la-la’.
  
  It doesn’t have to be that way. Every life is precious, whatever challenges it involves and everyone has one/some. Everyone fails to be part of one ‘norm’ or the other and no-one should have to spend their life trying to fit into someone else’s pigeon holes. They, neither, should be trying to force other people to fit into theirs. It’s a sign of extreme, inappropriate, and destructive character weakness when anyone behaves in that way.
  
  I tend to think that’s why societies, pretty much universally, developed laws against homosexuality. Non-discrimination against them should be a ‘norm’ – as against anyone else. But it seems they are incapable of returning the ‘favour’ and insist that any part of life they aren’t appropriate to participate in should not be allowed to exist. It’s all ‘my way or the highway’.
  
  In the past, the rest eventually decided it was them for ‘the highway’. I can see why, and if they persist with the idea that perception of the world must be narrowed to only the way they see it, I can see it happening again – because whether they like it or not, they are a minority, a lot of their worldview is true only for them, and society will continue to disintegrate without positively functional shared ‘norms’.

Water consultant Iain Rabbitts was sacked by the Christchurch City Council after saying he believes permanent chlorination in the city is almost inevitable if an independent regulator is brought in.

So the health of the people of Christchurch is less important than there leaders feelings and personal beliefs.

A water expert brought in to review Christchurch’s chlorination programme has been sacked by the city council after raising concerns over public health issues.

Iain Rabbitts was employed as an external consultant to carry out health and safety assessments while council engineers roll out temporary treatment ahead of repairs to fix substandard wells across the city.

But his contract was terminated after he publicly gave his view that fixing the faulty well heads is unlikely to prevent the city’s water supply having to be chlorinated permanently.

  Iain was quite wrong in my opinion to make unauthorised public statements concerning a client and on this basis the client was justified in sacking him (it is not clear whether the Council terminated his firm’s engagement or asked that he be removed from the task). He could also face disciplinary action from his professional body for breach of ethics.
  In particular there seemed no immediate urgency or risk that justified such a public statement since the water supply is currently chlorinated AFAIK. Assuming people in Christchurch prefer that their water is not chlorinated if at all possible the Council should have reasonable ‘space’ to consider the issue and this is not helped by a consultant Council engages spouting off in public prematurely.

      Main issue here is chlorinated water smells, swimming baths have to add extra chlorine and the water often stinks. So it is not surprising that people do not like chlorinated water.
      However adding chlorine to water supplies is a useful band-aid to dealing with suspect or compromised water supplies.
      If supplies are normally OK then chlorination is not necessary – the trick is to ensure the supplies are regularly tested – testing intervals depending on past experience, risk and events that could trigger unacceptable contamination.
      I do not know the current art of testing equipment, but if suitable gear is available or can be devised then it could be deployed and could raise an ‘alarm’ via the Council’s SCADA system indicating more precise testing or chlorination is needed. If such equipment is not currently available this would be an excellent student project for Canterbury University.

      If you hire any professional, you do not want the professional to be spouting off in public about your private affairs. For example Jacinda would have quite rightfully gone through the roof if her doctor announced the results of her pregnancy test in public.
      Councils and their staff are entitled to privacy when developing policy and professionals working for the Council need to respect this. If a professional has loose lips his or her work will dry up.

    I have found many examples of rumours about center left parties, such as National, and their supporters. Baseless slurs and allegations are rife.

The political rumour mill has been working over the past several months like never before and it hasn’t been producing the fairy dust that Jacinda Ardern’s been used to.

It’s been producing an unattractive and vile political sludge and finally Labour decided to put on its galoshes and wade its way out of the mire.

Make no mistake, Labour orchestrated the events of the past 24 hours.

Support parties were tipped off the night before the story involving the false rumours surrounding Ardern’s partner Clarke Gayford would be made public the following day.

      “…Journalists started hearing a variety of this rumour months ago. One editor heard it from a source who said they had heard it from their personal trainer, a person talking to a Labour Party staffer, and a high profile businessman. But none of these people ever had it first-hand.
      
      The rumours had been somewhat varied over the months but began to get remarkably specific in early February.

      One early April post on right-leaning site Kiwiblog featured a whole thread discussing the rumours as a “personal scandal” in the comment section, with several commenters with thousands of other comments to their name spreading them.
      
      That thread remained up on Wednesday, but was soon deleted after Stuff contacted Kiwiblog editor David Farrar for comment.

    Weak, Stephie. If you bother to read the whole article, for which I helpfully provided the link, you’ll see that Soper refers to strategy sessions in the Beehive to plan Labour’s “response” to these rumours.
    
    Soper’s conclusion is interesting too:
    
    Trouble is, what Labour’s now left with is a rumour mill under full steam.
    
    By not identifying the rumours by saying what they involve, they’ll simply be refuelled. The poacher turned Labour Party gamekeeper, former Press Gallery journalist Linda Clark’s part of the strategy, warning her former colleagues as a lawyer that if they say what the rumours are about, they’ll face legal action.
    
    So all the efforts to bury the issue, which is what this exercise was all about, has simply resurrected it.

  I believe Soper has nose put out of joint because he sent a message to the PMs office the day before to say the rumours were getting out of hand, they needed to be stopped and he would provide a “media platform” to achieve that. The PMs office replied saying it was all in hand and no need for Soper’s help. So I guess he missed a scoop and we see the result in his column.
  Agree with KS that the tide has turned. Did Labour actually have a honeymoon ? Remember

Once again we are getting a real time example of the left’s double standards and contempt for those not part of their ideological clique.

Labour and their media cronies are running a high profile campaign slandering National and it’s supporters with unproven allegations.

At the same time we have the specter of senior policeman running cover for Labour, media gagged with the threat of court action, and a Prime Minister wading in with a cover story.

We are not even allowed to mention the allegations, about what we don’t know. While it is open season on the NZ public and media, with baseless allegations published in global media. They can, and are, saying what they like about those who are not party faithful.

We need to rise above the gossip and look at the sinister implications of what is being done here at a fundamental level.

    Perhaps resident Kiwiblog archivist Nostradamus would be best placed to tell the full story.
    One thing I can attest to is that noted scumbag David Garrett had the decency to comment on this blog that he now understood the rumours about the methamphetamine charges were completely unfounded.

      Pete George on his blog YourNZ stated that he first became aware of a rumour about Clarke Gayford around October.
      
      There is some interest in trying to work out where the smears came from. I am aware of the starts of this going back to last October – it appears that they started as fairly general slurs and insinuations and got more specific as time went on.

So Seattle proposes a tax of 26c per hour per head of large employers to help with the homeless issue in the city. Amazon halts construction of a 17 story tower mid build and considers leasing out another building which combined would house 7000 workers and considers leasing out.

This is what happens when you keep on pushing up costs on business and tax the hell out of the golden goose.

Seattle already spends over $200m annually on homeless issues and throwing more money at the problem won’t fix it!

      It seems that every caucus meeting must be used to frame a new narrative to cover up for promises broken or about to be broken to be sure everybody is singing from the same song sheet.     The only person who has reignited the rumours is, ironically, Jacinda Arderne in her hopeless attempt to shut the story down. At one stage the rumours were a bit of fun on Kiwiblog, now the whole country is going “What rumours?” I suspect this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better because now we have suggestions of politicians influencing police procedures, which is far worse than what Gayford did, or didn’t do. Should the Speaker be intervening in political debates between rival MP’s?

Yesterday Nikki Kaye and Chris Hipkins were having a bit of a stoush about school funding. Mallard made a comment about rules having been changed. The implication was that he disbelieved Ms Kaye.

Mallard prefaced his tweet with the words “Don’t want to get involved in the substance of the debate but…“.

Surely, if Mallard as Speaker of the House and supposedly totally independent didn’t “want to get involved in the substance of the debate”, his best course of action would have been to not get involved at all. By his intervention, he HAS got involved in the substance of the debate, whether that was his intention or not.

It could be argued that Mallard was not intervening in the role of Speaker, but there’s one small problem; his Twitter handle is @SpeakerTrevor! Clearly, anything he posts from that account does, by definition, reflect on the Office of the Speaker.

A link which includes Mallard’s tweet follows. I would like to be able to link directly to Mallard’s tweet itself. However in this era of the most open and transparent government in New Zealand’s history, when I click on Mallard’s Twitter handle I get the message “You are blocked from following @SpeakerTrevor and viewing @SpeakerTrevor’s Tweets. ”

How can this be possible?

National’s pre-election promise was a $680 increase to your Superannuation. Labour marginally trumped it, but dressed it up as a $700 Winter Energy Payment (no means-testing or monitoring, but the label was good PR).

Both sides in the election wooed you and that’s why a haircut of almost $300 is worth hollering about.

  @Viking2 good to see some facts and a bit of research yielding up a result but she let herself down on some hard numbers. Not 1 million entitled to the energy payment but more like 600,000 odd. The $680 from National was not a benefit increase but was the gains from the tax cuts which would have increased the net benefit payments. The significant difference was that the tax cuts would start from 1st April 2018 and would be on-going until such time as Labour increased the tax rate. The COL repealed the tax cuts and instead sloshed a bundle of cash around in their drunken fashion with their “Family Package” that does not start until 1st July 2018.

  Looking a bit more closely at Delahunty’s deranged haranguings she needs a revisionist history lesson.
  
  Maori have never been one nation; the tribes themselves cannot precisely identify where each came from. Their language as is common in parts of the Pacific is similar but not identical.
  
  The 1840 Treaty for Maori was needed to stop genocide among them as the rules of engagement required blood for blood. For that reason alone the tribes have never coalesced into a nation. They needed a peacemaker then. There was and is no Maori Nation but tribal members. Time and separation has broken that down further and now many Maori have no idea of their tribal roots. The language was frozen and genealogies and hidden knowledge remained with the tribal elders. A small group will remain to keep this but the 1840 language is not suitable for modern use.

  I believe it’s only a rumour when there are few facts to substantiate the allegation. In this case, I doubt there is such a problem. There are rumours about his health though, now those may have a police-sanctioned statement. I have always maintained the best way to negate rumours is to ignore them completely. The moment one makes a statement, it adds to the problem, as now there is a fact (the denial of the rumour) that can be published. Which further perpetuates the rumour.

  No, Labour did NOT win. NZ First, thanks to Winston Peters, GAVE Labour the majority shareholding of a 3-way Government.
  
  2. TOP’s donations ( from one donor ) were the equivalent of half the value of National’s donations, but they had no MPs, no political history, and probably no party members. They failed to get representation.
  
  3. E-Tu union and the Maritime Union gave to both Labour and Greens. As Labour and Greens policies are not exactly compatible the rationale here is that Labour asked their unions to back the Greens so that they had an almost-guaranteed partner if required. Which was the case.

Looking at the language of Peter George’s post it is unhinged. No proper syntax, words breaking up, profanities, different personalities detaching themselves and arguing with each other…it is sadly the sign of a mind under severe pressure and my feeling is that there might be other factors driving this But because if we make it a “relevant” story that “matters”, then we can use it to bash Trump over the head with and maybe impeach him. I’m still not certain that these people like PG who want Trump impeached, know that Mike Pence will take his place if Trump is thrown out of office. Typically, I don’t think many of those on the Left have thought this part through to the end. They’re trying to make something that’s irrelevant, relevant, so they have something to run with. PS Dinosaurs, as a general rule, do not exist significantly above the K-T boundary, and certainly none exist below the P-K boundary. The most ancient rocks show no trace of skeletons, and somewhat less ancient rocks (150 million years!) show no trace of animals on land.

And to be clear, by “above” and “below,” I do not mean to say that no dinosaur exists at a higher elevation than larger mammals; I mean in higher and lower layers, which this theory acknowledges are pushed up and down by natural forces.

Are state TV under orders to give these freaks blanket coverage in an effort to normalise their illness?
