Why The Coalition Will Only Complete One Term, If That.

1: Labour’s poll boost, post-Little is made of balsa. Few policy changes from the new leader, just articulation and looks. That’s an unreliable, unsteady scaffold; can collapse as quickly as it went up.

2: Labour remains internally unstable – the gays, the unionists, the academics, the Maoris, the activists. Hard to manage with charter schools, immigration etc. Haworth & Kirton are hardly helping.

3: Labour’s best MPs are of an unbelievably poor quality. As a comparison, put them up alongside the Lange and Clarke teams. No contest.

4: Labour’s coalition partners hate each other. NZF and Green voters are extremists and won’t accept kowtowing to the polar opposite. They are not easily monstered due to their respective sizes, unlike UF, MP and ACT in recent years.

5: Labour’s leader is not equipped to deal with 2, 3, and 4. Failed to win three seats in three successive elections. No real world experience in people management.Very good at PR, but not the consummate politician like H1.

6: Labour’s leader is unlikely to go to 2020. She is a classic box ticker. More likely to choose the baby she always wanted, over the job she may now not want.

7: Labour has no idea what Mr Peters will do in the PM’s absence. He has long form as a wrecker.

8: A massive opposition who have no need to fundamentally rebuild after a defeat. NZ is not in a bad place. The economy is good. Jobs everywhere. National was not ‘chucked out’.

9: Money. Everybody wants what they voted for – and they want it in this budget. Few assets to sell. Scant room to jack up an over taxed, over regulated productive sector. Borrowing toxic especially given the outrage from Robertson etc during the Key administration.

10: The media will turn on the Coalition long before the public works out that their lot will not be improved. This is key. All media companies are already barely surviving an increasingly fragmented landscape and will be ever ravenous for stories as reader / viewer/ listenership declines, plus they are already livid about Curran’s RNZ+ which only adds further strain.

11: Helen and Jacinda. How long before they fall out? Mums and daughters etc

12: The Waitawheta youth camp. Jacinda didn’t know – really? Labour politicians are the most venomous because they have the most to lose; someone will use this against her one day.

  I agree. I am now suspicious that Jacinda knew about the assaults before she coasted around the Pacific and that she participated in the attempted cover-up. If she is called to account for that stupid decision by persons within her own Party then she’ll not be back after the birth. The attempted cover-up suggests quite strongly that the culprit is well connected to persons within the Party otherwise he’d already have been outed and left to sink. Despite the police investigation the name will leak and if it is a relative of a Labour MP the entire Party will need to carry the can for Jacinda’s stupid decision. Is Jacinda so stupid to not realise she is sitting astride a powder-keg with a lit fuse?

      Strong rumour in Wellington is that the offender was a Labour Party staffer.
      
      So I imagine Jacinda Ardern knows this person, and the answer she gave that he’s not a member borders on dishonest if he was a political staffer.

        There’s no doubt in my mind that the party apparatus is running cover for the offender. By far the best option would have been to have turned the offender over to the police and come up smelling of roses that the party will not tolerate sexual abuse under any circumstances blah blah blah. Labour doesn’t hesitate normally to throw people under the bus when it suits their purposes so why not this time? The right connections within the party maybe?

    There have been murmerings for quite a few weeks about an expose that may have caused significant damage, and this looks like the one !
    
    If one or more of her MP’s knew about it, then the boss knew about it too. The fact that she would only field questions about the Pacific mission smells to high heaven – she knew that something else was brewing but didn’t want to face it until she convened a caucus meeting to discuss the best plan of defence.
    
    Davis was also nobbled, unable to discuss any matter unless notice was given – this also reeks of a cover up.
    
    Time for somebody to requisition call records to and from a couple of cell phones I think. That will reveal the “conversations” that were going on at the time !

      I think you are right. The question, as with all cover-ups, becomes what did the Princess know and when did she know it? Is it that Jacinda won’t sack or discipline Kirton or anyone else associated with the scandal because she knows they know she knew about it weeks ago? The extraordinary embargo imposed on questions from the media during her Pacific tour now also makes sense as part of an effort to play for time and maintain a cover-up. Is it that Labour realise the public’s perception of Jacinda as promoted by the MSM is their only asset so they will do anything to prevent the full facts from coming out?

  However, you are taking an analytical approach to assess the weaknesses of Labour.
  
  Any such analysis is only half of the story. You need to do the same for the other choice – National.
  
  Voters don’t just think “Labour are shite I will vote for the alternative”
  
  There is more of a comparative approach – and sadly when you put Labour up against National, it’s not so rosy for National:
  1) Simon is unappealing, the polls won’t be kind to him (tie)
  2) Nats are also unstable, they went against the prevailing view from the electorate. MPs will be punished for ignoring voters. (tie)
  3) Simon, Amy, Paula are the top three = poor quality, apart from JC there’s not much to crow about the rest either (tie)
  4) Nat’s don’t have any coalition partners (+1 Labour)
  
  I could go on, but you get the drift.
  
  All of which is bad news. If National is as unappealing as Labour, then Labour get to stay in. NZ doesn’t vote out first term governments. National need to be visibly and undeniably better in the public eye – and opposition gives precious few opportunities to do that.
  
  I am sad (mainly because National are so utterly lost in the progressive wilderness) but I think we’re stuck with the current set-up for at least 2 full terms.

        National defeated Labour by about 21%, with Greens coming a very distant 4th. It didn’t matter one iota who won, ore even who came second.
        
        The only race that mattered was whether NZ1 could cobble together 5% of the total vote.
        
        Why we spend umpteen millions on an election is beyond me – when after the race is over we sit and wait, and wait, and wait for the geriatric gnome to decide who will line his pockets the best !

  Looks like the Unions are going to re exert their position with the Labour Party.
  When the polls go southward, very shortly, for the Labour Party the Union hierarchy will, and are currently if understood to be very annoyed at the way they are now at last being presented to the country as incompetents.
  Remember they did not appoint Cindy as their leader – Helen Clark and Grant Robertson knew and saw the opportunity which was a gap allowable under the Union’s rules, and they took it.
  Whilst the so called media fawned over her she lied by implication as to the fact that she was pregnant.
  Besides he very left wing political ends she as a more important function as a mother.
  If last week was bad watch the next one and the ones after that.
  She was not elected – she was appointed by a geriatric dwarf.

    Red eye. Supermarkets don’t sell “top shelf” (as in spirits and liqueurs), so that allegation is impossible by definition.
    
    Note I’m not denying the Exclusive Brethren drink. I read the excellent book Behind Closed Doors by former member Ngaire Thomas which affirms that.

  I know the guy who was driving that Ute and most of the passengers. I hate to admit it, but the Fairfax article is probably accurate. Brethren are well known for driving like maniacs after a few drinks. Try driving between Dargaville and Paparoa late afternoon – I didn’t realise VS vans could go so fast! This was a tragic accident and a rare insight into how good the brethren are at closing ranks and protecting their own. They are a cult not a religion. The only thing they worship is money.

      I think Nolas in Dargaville are the biggest top shelf sellers in Northlake. As an aside, what I was saying about the brethren and money earlier doesn’t mean they’re bad people. They look after their elderly, they run their own schools, you never here of them getting in trouble and they never take welfare. I can even remember when they wouldnt have a fax machine on their premises. They used to have it at someone elses business up the road and pay them a fee for receiving their faxes. That way when the devil or cheap advertising popped out only a non beiever got fried – very christian of them. I don’t think any religion should be tax exempt.

        He was always provocative, and Kiwis of the era used to get pissed off with him, especially when he rightly criticised our dirty play and inadequate scrummaging techniques in the 1970s. But I liked John Reason, and he would always argue his case well, honestly and fearlessly. Including why the rugby community should have maintained contact with apartheid era South Africa.
        
        Interestingly, Reason also had a very good relationship with, and did much to disseminate the insights of the the great Llanelli and 1971 Lions coach, Carwyn James, who was one of the few in the British rugby community at the time who took a public anti-apartheid stance (London Welsh, Welsh and Lions flanker John Taylor was maybe the only other. Also interestingly, Taylor was never selected for the Barbarians, as he was deemed to be a “communist” 🙂 ).

      I wouldn’t write the English off for All Blacks end of year tour, nor the 2019 World Cup. Instead, their results are more likely an indication that, Italy aside, the Six Nations is now, for the first time since the 1970s, a top quality and very even competition. On any given day any of the four home unions and France can beat the other. Which is in marked contrast to the snooze fest that our annual trouncing of the Springboks, Wallabies and Pumas has degenerated into since 2016.

        No, you are still confusing your monarchs. George V (reigned 1910 to 1936), who was a devoted family man was the father of Edward VIII (known to the family as David, reigned in 1936) and George VI (family name was Albert, king from 1936 to 1952).
        
        George V’s father was Edward VII (known as Bertie, king from 1901 to 1910), and as per my post below, he was a serial adulterer and bon vivant. Edward VII/Bertie’s mother, Queen Victoria deliberately kept him away from state business when he was Prince of Wales as she considered him unreliable.

But Bertie, in between servicing a bevy of Parisian prostitutes, did help broker the Entente Cordiale with France that foiled his nephew, the Kaiser ?. And he was a popular king, despite a scandalous gambling habit that saw him, as Prince of Wales, called upon to testify in a defamation case.
    
    Interesting story about Charles, including “why now?” It’s been a while since we’ve seen an anti-Windsors story. Was a Rupert Murdoch speciality in the 1990s. Makes you wonder if they are angling for Charles to step aside when the time comes to succeed to the throne. Archbishop of Canterbury Cosmo Lang was instrumental in getting rid of Edward VIII. Clark Gayford was being interviewed by her. And this sort of shit is about to hit the screens and we’re supposed to think it’s bloody hilarious? Just as well I don’t/can’t watch the tedious drivel and the addition of the ‘muff diving rug muncher’ certainly doesn’t tempt me at all. What the he’ll are the producers at Seven Sharp thinking? Green Party co-leader James Shaw is handing the party’s questions in the House to the Opposition.

It’s a deal that has been struck between the Greens and National because the Greens are tired of the “patsy” questions they can ask each other during Question Time.

The Greens’ strategy gives the Opposition more questions and a greater opportunity to hold the Government to account – something Shaw said had received mixed feelings amongst Labour and NZ First.

The Greens are a supply and confidence partner for the Government.

Shaw says it’s a “point of principle” and about holding the Government to account.

“The Green Party has long advocated the importance of Parliament having the powers to hold the Government of the day to account. Question Time is a key avenue for the opposition to interrogate the Government, so this move is a small step we can take to live up to the values we stated in opposition now that we are part of the Government,” said Shaw.

Is this a round-about way of saying the Greens are already disillusioned with Labour, after just a few months in Government, but also want to protect their own positions by not being seen to be openly hostile to Labour?

  I think it’s a more deeper problem the greens have.
  With most of the green support coming from the naive latte swilling females around the likes of Ponsonby, they have been told by their better halves to get the greens into a position to support the Nats next time around. With the greens, in the past being seen as left of liabour, these silly bints have seen that their votes are wasted on the present green party.
  If a more moderate co-leader is voted in next month, instead of the toxic murrri hopeful, then we may see a more moderate greens coming through.

    Kimbo I did a Valued Opinion Survey on friday that was gathing imformation for the Greens and it started off asking for the names of the Leaders of the main Political Parties but asked specifically for the Male Leader of the Greens.after going though the Questions the last three questions asked, how James was doing as Leader, what policy you disagree with and if you were to vote For him what would he have to do. Then finishing off they asked what advise would give the Greens to get people to vote for them. So this maybe is the start of the Greens going in a different direction.

        A genuine well done. It may be a small thing, but you did something tangible to try and protect an important and long standing Westminster constitutional safeguard. They may still vote against it. I think they would be mad if they didn’t. As you rightly suggest, they compromise their brand, and gain nothing in return. Just as NZ First voted against Chloe Swarbrick’s dope decriminalisation bill, the Greens owe NZ First nothing. And sending the message they are no longer prepared to be poodles improves the Greens leverage for the post 2020 election coalition negotiations.

      Like you Dave, while I think I am bit more moderate in my views than you, there is nothing out there now for us, and we will not be the only ones in this particular boat.
      I have just sent an email to Simon informing him I will not be voting for him again (he is my MP).over his value capture tax views.
      Combined with his wife’s about turn flip flop in regard to the TECT payments to its beneficiaries, I have lost any faith and trust in him and his wife, and her now stance on “Legalising” the theft of beneficiaries money to go to any charity that the trustees see fit ( i.e. museum, stadiums etc etc)..no vote nationally or locally for the Bridges from me.

I daresay this won’t be popular either. I agree with Heather du Plessis-Allen. Ardern has been made, and continues to be made, to look like a chump.

The fact that she is all image and no substance probably helps. But there’s no doubt in my mind that there is a new ‘first couple’ in the offing and it’s the Kirtons; poisoned chalice though that may be.

I wonder if the MSM always knew that or have, themselves, been made to look like chumps. The turnaround will be entertaining.

However, neither can you deny that National are supporting Labour in trying to shut down any discussion of or action against sexual assaults.

Laila Harre may have spent her time normalising assaults, drinking, and drug taking for ‘middle NZ’ as normal events in the life of children. Par for the course for NZ, having every professional in the social services trying to stop or reduce the damaging effects of all of them while political parties are supporting plying their young with all of them and/or excusing it to win their political power.

Wayne Mapps response to it? “Russia is really important.” Like Don Brash. Forgive me, but National people are running for cover – any cover they can find. Why? I’ll be generous and think it’s their corporate masters – men AND women – who wants anyone to know you’ve either made the ‘demand’ or ‘paid the price’ of sexual assault? And how will they cope if the ‘system’ is shut down?

Women won’t get ‘equal’ anything in NZ until they stop being seen as, and behaving as, a sexual commodity.

Russia is important – but it’s not like it’s in doubt. A country that’s poisoning people with weapons grade chemical weapons, let alone in other countries, and threatening WW3 is not one that we should be supporting. The sheer fact that there is doubt in some political minds, like Labour’s, shows just how much ‘conscience’ has been lost in NZ. Really? We won’t have nuclear weapons from the US but we’ll support the biggest warmonger on the planet with his nuclear weapons, AI ‘army’, and threats of WW3?

It’s ironic though and politics is always interesting. It’s liberalism, especially from the Left, that Russia is fighting against – if Russia is not ‘Russia’ then the world may as well not exist in Putin’s view. More particularly, I suppose, gay rights – and I’m sure that’s James Shaw’s reason for happily being anti-Russia. Labour clearly doesn’t know where to put itself – it’s Red but anaethema to Putin. He probably doesn’t know either.

Globalist trade, as opposed to sovereign self-sufficiency, is interesting too. “Do what we want or we’ll turn off your electricity/food/airlines….”

Aren’t all the powerful and privileged creating a wonderfully ‘safe’ and ‘peaceful’ world. Small wonder China is investing in the infrastructure of every country it can gets its money into.

Interesting how Trump operates.

Sessions tries to demonstrate professionalism and recuses himself in the Russian matter, rather than be a Trump enabler and goes into the guy to be fired book. Then rumours come out that he is to the next one to go and so Sessions fires McCabe (an enemy in the FBI because his wife is a Democrat) two days before he retires to take away his pension. Thus Sessions shows he can do what Trump wants, if that it is what it takes to remain in his job.

    According to the Press Release from the Dept of Justice, McCabes firing was recommended after an investigation by the FBIs Office of Professional Responsibility-an investigation which began before Trump was elected and also recommended by the Inspector General of the Department of Justice- and he is an Obama Appointee.
    He was fired for leaking to the Press and lying in his reports and in sworn testimony.
    Comey was doing the same. Others have been fired before for the same thing.
    The IGs report will be out soon. There will be a second Special Counsel appointed to take up from that report.
    The IG has had someone investigating for quite some time. The odds are McCabe and Comey are going to be charged. Amongst others.
    Oh and I reckon Flynn will get his charges dropped too.

      Yes, according to the DOJ press release McCabe was fired for leaking.
      
      McCabe disputes this, and says the investigation was a setup. No one has seen the report the firing is supposedly justified by. Previous such cases have taken months to work their way through the system, this one took a matter of days.
      
      It’s clear McCabe’s firing is a political hit job. That is the sort of behaviour we expect in banana republics. Not the United States.
      
      It’s also clear that Trump’s efforts to halt the Mueller probe are getting more frenzied. That is the action of a guilty man.
      
      I predict that the real “red line” will be when Mueller subpoenas Trump for an interview. Trump will know full well that he cannot get through that interview without either perjuring himself or exposing himself. So Trump will need to sack Mueller in order that that interview not take place. That will be the critical point in this whole juncture … will the House Republicans meekly go along with Trump obstructing justice? Or will they finally call time on him?
      
      Either way … November is coming. It seems all but certain the Dems will hold the House of Reps after November, and then this whole Trump investigation will start up again. They will want to draw that out right through 2019 and into 2020.

        …but Southern has not been censored in the UK. You can still read her writings there. Instead, she was denied entry to the country.         200 returning Isis fighers were allowed back in to the country. The Mayor of London has admitted this yet, he has no idea of their whereabouts, and displayed a rather cavalier attitude when challenged on mornign tv about this absurd matter.
        
        Radical clerics, known for their hate speech, (calling for the death of infidels/jews/homosexuals) have been allowed in to the UK to speak at universities. These same British universities made stipulations as to which questions students could ask thereby allowing the radicals a specific priviledge.
        
        To deny Lauren Southern, Pettibone and her partner entry is an abomination. It is an inversion of the ancient traditional liberal democratic values you respect.

  Without wanting to look at those wayne-kerrs, if its the Standard’s authors getting agro then it looks like HDPA has stumbled on to the truth (which they are trying to shut down/discredit her) which is that the Labour camp sexual harassment appears to have been clumsily covered up by the top echelon of the Labour Party Executive (eg the likes of Haworth, H2, Kirton etc).
  
  Kirton was the fall-guy to front the media when the issue blew up (whilst Media were asking where was the LP President Haworth).
  
  (As an aside I can’t recall if it was Kirton or Mike Williams or possibly Haworth who indicated I think last Wed that Labour was expecting media to break the story Tuesday but Newsroom published the day before, thus leaving Labour scrambling to have Kirton quickly front it who ummed and erred his way through various media interviews rather unconvincingly on his back foot – perhaps also why Jacinda was caught-out at the Monday presser as she possibly wasn’t fully briefed by the Labour Party Exec by then? (I think the interview was on ZB drive last Wed?)).
  
  HDPA and the MSM just need to keep asking the Labour Party who made those decisions not to address the sexual harassment issue sooner by informing the Police and who decided to cover it up, if they want to get to the truth.
  
  The other aspect about all this is that it proves (just like Winston knows and has exploited it) that Jacinda is nothing but a figure-head “Women’s Weekly type pretty face” to appeal to the masses and it is the Labour Party Exec that has the power (after all they appointed her once they sacrificed Andrew Little thanks to a timely last-minute way out clause under the LP rulebook – so what’s the bet this wasn’t spontaneous and had been planned for a while as a result as they became increasingly alarmed at the then dismal poll rating declines).
  
  So Jacinda has no real power and is being told what to do by the LP Executive (and even Winston at times). As a result there is no way that Jacinda is in a position to ask for LP Exec heads to roll – that pressure will only come from the Media (for someone in the LP Exec to resign).
  
  Jacinda is powerless, put there by the Exec and she knows it. But they exploit her by ensuring she does the heavy-lifting in terms of fronting the media to deal with the fall-out (that was never caused by her in the first place – I suspect if Jacinda was actually in charge she would have admitted Labour’s responsibility a lot earlier)!
  
  Frankly with a baby on the way who needs all this stress to deal with, complicating her own and the baby’s health? Certainly not Jacinda, certainly not any expectant mother.
  
  Perhaps if Jacinda had the smarts she would “do a John Key” and step down from the leadership (sooner rather than later to preserve her health suffers and let someone else deal with these shenanigans) and leave with her popularity intact and high public approval ratings?
  
  The bonus is after a few years of bringing up her child as a fabulous adoring mum able to spend good quality time together, she could easily slot back in as Labour leader (especially if the LP Exec old guard are gone by then)!

        I think there are actually more things to worry about with the present government than who knew what about sexual offending at a youth camp.
        That’s not minimising the issue, or pointing at a squirrel. would suggest that more important things to consider include:
        1. The astounding failure for the government to support the UK following the Russian chemical attack.
        2. The role and influence of the Chinese government n New Zealand, and within the National and Labour parties in particular.
        3. Holding the senior ministers to account for their performance, or lack thereof.
        
        That would be just a start, of course.

If general incompetence performed that function then most Western democracies would swap governments on a monthly basis.

But competency, or at least perceived competency is still a good insurance policy that keeps an incumbent in power until “it’s time for a change” kicks in and it dies of old age.
        
        Hence, despite inevitable scandals such as Richard Worth, John Key was Mr Teflon who used to nip them in the bud. Or, like ponytailgate, laugh it off with that light touch he had.
        
        And so too did Helen Clark, not with a light touch, but by micromanaging everything, even that stupid painting. That was until she linked up with Winston Peters in 2005 which opened the door to all sorts of fuck ups from him. Plus, due to her traditional Labour paranoia about corporate money supposedly buying elections, she foolishly pushed the electoral reform bill after overreacting to the Closed Brethren. And there was David Benson Pope and Taino Philip Field. All Part of the thousand cuts which sapped the image of competence in her last term…

      …but despite going on Hosking’s programme for the rest of February, it was only for the scheduled March 5 interview that the request was made to confine any questions to a specific topic, specifically the Pacific tour that Ardern was on at that stage. Which means the real likely reason for the restriction was because she was out of the country, and out of touch with events, wasn’t sure of being adequately briefed, had insufficient depth of knowledge and research at her finger tips to answer any questions that came her way as a good PM should,
      
      …so she and/or her media minders didn’t want to risk being exposed as unable to walk and chew gum at the same time.

        The answer is simple. Firstly, she may not have heard what happened in February. Secondly, if she had heard she may have thought the media had not got wind of it.

      No doubt the Police would have been contending with Darren Hughes in full-denial/cover-up mode, so had nothing to go on in terms of pressing charges.
      
      Which IIRC resulted in a lot of disquiet even further disgust at Darren Hughes because of the way he then claimed, as per that Fairfax article at the time, that he was “falsely accused” and “had done nothing wrong”.
      
      For someone who claimed he did nothing wrong he sure did go to extraordinary lengths to avoid further public scrutiny, including leaving the country altogether!

        Well done. Wrote a chapter in my rugby coaching book about him. Basically the All Blacks assumed, in his test debut (1st test, 1980 at the SCG) that it would be a clever idea for fellow debutant Wayne Smith to send up and understand all day to Gould as that was the standard welcome to a new test fullback in that era. Just ask poor old Colin Farrell!
        
        What they didn’t know, but found out at the end of the 9-13 loss, was that Gould had played Australian football, had hands like buckets, and could kick long distances like Don Clarke. So Smith kept on putting the ball up, and Gould kept kicking it back all day with up to 50 metres interest.
        
        The All Blacks made similar assumptions about roughing up the other two Wallaby debutants that day, an unknown red haired flanker by the name of Simon Poidevin, and a raw stand off named Mark Ella. As you can likely guess, assumption was the mother of all fuck ups that day! ?
        
        Saw Gould play live here in NZ two years later. Was sitting directl6 behind him when he punted a ball from just a few metres out from his own goal line.     The fish-shaped tai-yaki are traditionally sweet. The filling is usually the dark red-brown bean paste (an-ko) or a sweetened kumara-like mash.
    
    Japanese sweets don’t tend to be flavored by fruit like in the West, but often by starchy bean or potato extracts.
    
    If you like steamed NZ kumara, you will probably like Japanese tai-yaki a lot.

    In medieval Europe anyone could point a finger at someone, even youngsters, and they were sentenced to burn.
    For a fee (of course) relations of the accused could sometimes arrange for a less painful death.
    In England, they burned women at the stake up to 1800 for killing their husband or boss.
    It was called “petty treason” or something because the man was head of the house.

    Southern has done some outstanding work exposing the violent antics of Anarchists aka Antifa. She has, at times, naively put her life in danger exposing their thuggery reporting in the field. She has been assaulted several times for merely reporting on events from the sidewalk. Such is the courtesy Antifa extend to those they choose not to debate with!
    
    Tommy despite his arguably unsavoury past, has done some hard yards, gained some kudos via an Oxford speech and becomes increasingly educated on political system in the UK. He ultimately calls a spade a spade. He has been a champion when it comes to exposing the lengths the British Govt will go to suppressing those that dare to publicly criticise Islam, especially its infiltration into the British political sphere.
    
    I fear his days are numbered. He is a thorn in the side of the the open borders advocates.

  It is not at all surprising that Putin should publicly intimidate his enemies at election time.
  Not that he needed any help to win, as no candidate that might come within cooee are permitted to run for election.
  If you are implying that it was a deception plan by the West, for example, you would have to imagine a scenario in which poisoning their own agent and innocent bystanders would have been considered a way to dampen Putin’s electoral support.
  Only someone like Trump, Putin’s best ~~client~~ pal, or followers with similarly paranoid mindsets could come up with something like that.
