Clare Curran has been incapable of defending her government against serious accusations of impropriety on two occasions this week.

Curran appeared to be unable to comprehend the question posed to her by Melissa Lee on Thursday – sidestepped – shuffled – um’d and ah’d – then avoided answering the question, and gave no ministerial opinion.

Now we need to know whether Cindy was involved in this deception as well, or will she claim to have been she suffering baby brain at the time? There are more questions to be asked yet.

It is blatantly apparent that Curran is incapable of performing this role to any reasonable standard – this incompetent minister has to go !

        I reckon Willie Jackson has it in spades over Curran for incompetency. Paul Goldsmith of all people has had Jackson on the rack for over a week and obviously relishing his work. The expressions on Jackson’s face and his fidgeting while waiting his turn in front of the Inquisition are priceless. Another little gem in the current Question Time spectacle.

        If you’re going to set yourself as a beacon of hope to the ‘poor and needy’, then you need to walk the talk.
        As an aside, I’ll bet her jaw dropped to the ground when she walked into Malcolm Turnbull’s multi million dollar home in Sydney the other day.
        She would never in her life have seen such wealth on display.
        That is a result of Malcom Turnbull being born with brains and an ability to make lots of money.
        Can’t argue with that.
        So, I’m left wondering about the impact of such a vision on her Communist senses.
        As for me, I really soak up the vision of beautiful homes.
        I have a saying “I admire it, but don’t desire it” and then head back home to our lovely nest and thank my lucky stars that we’ve worked hard to enjoy the fruits of our labours.

It seemed somewhat at odds with the nice little wedge she’s been pulling from the taxpayer one way and another for her entire adult life.         One is hoping she will retain the house and rent it out to a needy family or two at a peppercorn rental. That would show that she really is in touch with the poverty stricken she purports to represent. And she’ll turn a blind eye to the multiple dogs that come with such families as well. And it won’t matter that the P cookups stuff the house as well, not to mention holes in walls etc. etc.
        The place has the potential to end up looking like a gang pad if that were to occur. The evil untaxed capital is only evil when some other bastard does it.

I see WO is at it again, defending his rights to be a nasty bastard. A reader has challenged him regarding his hit on Bill English yesterday. Scanning through the reply from Slater, he’s digging a hole for himself. Actually Cameron, no one really cares about the back story. This is deeply personal to you obviously, but by coming out swinging reminds me of a very nasty Staff member we have who has just dug a bloody big hole for herself with her vindictiveness and abuse, that she has nowhere to go but out the door! After a while, people just become tired of the tedious behaviour, they just stop listening. Get over it. Move on. You’ll end up with an ulcer stewing over past injustices.

  Cam’s answer was (to be polite) cloying. Before I’d condemn it I suggest we all take the time to compare the inter-change between the reader and the blog-owner at WO and the manner with which it would have been (mis)handled at the Standard. The Standard would have been unlikely to have acknowledged the reasonable observations of the reader, but had it done so the reply would’ve been littered with ad-hominems and abuse. At WO there was no abuse nor spite from either. It was a fair question and one which I consider to have been well debated. I think Cam has some baggage towards National but who hasn’t ever developed an antagonism towards a Party? I detest Labour with all the energy I can maintain!

  It seems to go back to the time when John Slater lost the National Party Presidency to Michelle Boag. He was on the Kim Hill show soon afterwards and indicated he was gracious in defeat. However it seems that John was deeply resentful at the time. Seems this rubbed off on to Cam who had his own difficulties at the time. So Cam has had it in for Michelle and Bill English (deputy leader at the time, leader soon after) ever since.
  Cam is still hammering away at Simon Bridges. Seems he will not be content with any leader except Judith Collins. I hope Judith keeps her distance from Cam as John Key did after coming in for criticism (Cam was resentful that John Key cut him off).

    I don’t disagree. Two thoughts though: Why would the treatment of the father have made such a profound effect on the son without the original treatment being repeated post the father’s removal from the Presidency? (Were I Cam and felt the way I see he does, then I’d have stayed in the Party and sought revenge from within.) Secondly, I recall the Kim Hill interview and Mr Slater was gracious despite the acidic rain of ill-thought questions being dumped on him by the needlessly aggressive Hill. How that self-enveloped creature retains her job evades me?

    @ Peterwn. Whilst I like Judith and believe she can be a formidable politician, her weakness is her lack of self-awareness, which sees her do things that costs her public support.
    
    I doubt she will keep her distance from Cameron, due to her lack of self awareness and look at what her blind support to him has given her – as well as being stood down as a Minister, being at his receiving end of undermining her Govt and losing power and being turfed into Opposition, I believe she can add in losing National’s leadership (again) to the trifecta.
    
    If Judith (and Cameron) had any sense she would have declared her interest in becoming National’s Deputy Leader. Why? Because she never had the numbers to become Leader (despite WO’s spin), as WO’s constant attacking of all her fellow MP’s and therefore potential supporters didn’t help her cause either.
    
    She could have become Deputy Leader (timing wise it would have made sense for Paula to step down eg fresh leadership package), raised her public profile and cemented her power and grown her support base, and look to take over the leadership in the future!
    
    But no silly WO thinks he knows better and silly Judith drinks the WO Kool-aid and gets f***ed over again and again and again ….

    I suspect it is more likely he is finding Winston useful.
    Bill English played a significant part in having Winston kicked out of the National Caucus as I remember and so seems to have it in for Bill, which suits Cam’s purposes.
    Cam is one of those who thinks National needs to ‘harden up’ which is why he supports Judith Collins for leader and also saw a National / NZ First coalition as providing this hardening up particularly on immigration. He would also have thought that Winston would have insisted on Bill’s removal as leader as a condition of coalition. He underpinned this by arguing that Winston would never have the Greens in a coalition, but he was mistaken here. He then had to do some backpedalling arguing that National missed out by not meeting Winston’s last demand. So Cam cannot go on the attack against Winston without losing lots of face. Both are on the legal warpath in their own ways using the same lawyer.

Cam still wants to divert attention from the damage he did to Nats by his sheer incompetence around DP and that other idiot he got tied up with. Suspect his mental health issues are far deeper than a bit of depression. Pretty sure if he starts lobbing shells at English etc there will be some very heavy return fire, he knows it and the frustration he feels from impotence tends to tip him towards the deep end.     As a reader commented here yesterday. Slater will ‘white ant’ Bridges into irrelevance. Simon Bridges wasn’t my first choice of Leader, but the more I see of him and hear from him, I like what I see. He’s very smart and articulate, despite his accent. He’ll be able to shoot the PM down in flames because his background as a Crown Prosecutor means he understands the relevance of getting the facts straight. And his wife is elegant and classy as well, dare I say it. Her PR background is an asset to him.
    There is nothing of relevance in the PM’s boyfriend’s background that makes him an asset to her that I can deduce. Rather more a liability in the long term.

      There is nothing wrong with being the underdog at present. Far better that the Coalition and their media lackeys underestimate him.
      When at High School I helped with butts on a rifle range during a competition. I was slow but methodical and this upset the contestant so the boss showed me how I had to act fast. Very soon I could note the score, set the signal tag, get the target down, the bullet hole pasted over, and the target up in double quick time – no more complaints. The contestants queried the result a few times (which is quite normal) but was not ‘over-ruled’ once. Simon Bridges will be like that – off to a slow start but when up to speed – watch out!
      One of Simon’s skills would have been addressing juries – people from a wide range of backgrounds. So he already has some initial skills addressing a very large jury – the electors. His big problem is he will have to make do with a third rate megaphone.

He needs to learn to ignore online abuse, as I have. I used to get angry, now I just poke the borax or insult the idiots, but I have learnt that the online world, especially where it is anonymous, is not reality.   Having read the readers’ letter he writes a very good and considered letter!
  
  As for WO’s long winded response, I’m sorry but what a load of crap – has he ever thought to think that perhaps his personal attacks on the National Party executive (and threats over the years to expose and release dirt on them) and senior MP’s might have, ya know, played some part in them wanting to distance him from the Party? FFS it’s not rocket science!
  
  WO used to write years ago that even his father used to tell him to tone it down (the attacks on National – which can’t have been helping his cause too post-Party leadership – presumably he could potentially be seen as leaking to WO and thus undermining etc) and WO would refuse because “he answers to no-one” etc! No wonder why National disassociated themselves from WO (apart from Judith of course)!
  
  Anyway everything now can be summed up as this. At the 2014 election John Key publicly thanked DPF for his polling insights helping National win that election. No doubt WO was pissed off – because WO has even stated it was he who won the election for National!!!
  
  Ever since then WO has actively and overtly campaigned to destroy National, starting with the 2015 Northland by-election and his promotion of Winston Peters and NZF etc.
  
  And it won’t stop now that Key and English are gone because WO now wants the impossible – a clean-out of every MP and Party official etc. That’s what people (and WO commentators) are being sucked into (eg “we have to destroy National to save it” etc).
  
  Umm no thanks, and I don’t want the consequences which will be Labour/Green Govts etc!
  
  It’s easy to hate than to love sometimes – but I feel if WO could better channel his energy in supporting the establishment of a new “decent” right-wing Party then he will achieve something truly impressive (now that ACT and the Conservatives are 1% Party’s). Perhaps Judith Collins could lead it? After all National needs support partners and they would give the hens teeth for something else to emerge.   I predict the nation of South Africa will continue its downhill slide but much more rapidly. Comparisons to Venezuela are pretty apt as that’s what I predict South Africa will be like in less than 5 years.

These land confiscations must ring major alarm bells for white South Africans. What next? Confiscation of bank accounts? It all reminds me too much of Germany in the 1930s and their treatment of the Jews.       If the people want that name to replace “New Zealand” and the government (through its sovereign powers) officially change the name of this country, then Aotearoa it is.
      Youngsters will never know the difference, and in a generation will think how quaint the anglicized name of the Dutch “New West Holland” must have sounded.
      Names of places are part of our shared history, and I do not care for the re-naming of familiar places simply to suit the current fashion.

  But just looking at what he said about redistribution. It is not as if IRD unilaterally sets tax rates. They can’t operate outside their own law.
  
  You can’t get a different redistribution of income without changing taxes. So far that is not part of the Labour plan, in fact Jacinda would be breaching her 2017 electoral commitments if she increased taxes.
  
  Labour talks a big game but they don’t have the tools to implement much of it. In fact that will soon be her obvious failure. Promising nirvana but delivering not much.
  
  Will Labour campaign on increased taxes in 2020 or implementing a CGT? Especially if the economy has weakened, for which they will wear the blame?
  
  It will certainly be Simon’s chance to do a Rob Muldoon on Labour. Since that is what he has to do; beat Labour after just one term, just as Rob did in 1975.

  This country was doing WAY better when we supported families to get into their first home, had full employment at a liveable wage and subsidised some basic necessities.
  But he’s dead wrong that it’s racism causing the problems.
  It is actually the culture of the people experiencing racism that invites racist attitudes.
  E.g: 75% of criminal gang members are Maori, yet Maori are only 15 to 17% of the population.
  I have met many families in South Auckland with 11, 14, 16 children.
  Virtually all were Maori….the only exception was a family of 17 raised in the islands where contraception was not available.
  These kids are mostly very neglected, and many turn to gangs for a sense of family.
  It’s Maori who are dragging their own people down.

  IRD should seek to cause as little distress to taxpayers as possible and be strictly neutral. The discretion vested in the CIR is to facilitate administration not for political usage.

So what does the change of President in South Africa really mean? Part 2:

Yesterday I contrasted Zuma and Ramaphosa, but now we need to add a third force to the mix: the EFF under Julius Malema.

Malema was part of ANC youth league, but split from the ANC mainly to appeal to the younger hot heads amongst the Northern tribes. The ANC was just too level headed for him. He is a Northern Sotho coming from the area that borders with Zimbabwe.

It’s his birthday tomorrow (3 March). He’s turning 37. Funny age that!

Malema is too young to really remember the apartheid era and, like many of the blacks who were born right at the end of apartheid (or since then), has a very distorted view of what really happened and a heightened sense of outrage.

The area he comes from is also heavily farmed by Afrikaners and you could argue that this is one of the areas where land claims against white farmers are the most legitimate. This is distinctly different from Zuma who lives in Kwa Zulu (formerly Zululand) in an area which has always been Zulu and the land ownership issue is much less important.

Although Malema paints himself as a comrade for the common man, he is worth millions of dollars and has been given gifts of a Range Rover and other cars and has numerous other valuable assets – so is not exactly squeaky clean.

Malema was always on Zuma’s case about the corruption etc. Zuma was an easy target, but Zuma also had that “street cred” of being selected by Mandela and being a leader in the struggle. Can’t really top that when you were in short pants during the struggle.

Now along comes Ramaphosa. In many ways Malema and Ramaphosa are very similar:
* They are neither selected by Mandela, nor were they part of the Umkhoto we Sizwe.
* They are both from Nothern tribes with no affinity with the Zulus and Xhosa (Zulus being the most powerful tribe, and Xhosa second, together making up about 50% of the back population).
* They have both had their hands deep in the cookie jar, but Ramaphosa has definitely gone deeper.
* They both are keen on land appropriation – a major theme for the Nothern tribes, with it being slightly more important where Malema comes from.
* They are both university educated, so Malema can’t talk about his adversary being ignorant any more.

In many ways they could be natural allies with overlapping causes. But that does not serve the power lust, so they view eachother as political threats.

Malema came out swinging when Ramaphosa took over, labelling him a puppet of the white colonal capitalists etc. Somewhat justified, but Malema might see some of that himself if he looked in the mirror (except most of Malema’s income has been back-handers from people getting government contracts).

When Mandela came to power, people were expecting completely unrealistic change. Many people were expectig to shift from shacks to nice houses with electricity and running water within a few months. Twenty four years on, they are still in shacks. Under Mandela and the “freedom fighters” up to, and including, Zuma, they were still prepared to be respectful. That is unlikely to be extended to Ramaphosa – particularly amongst Zulus and Xhosas. Time has run out to deliver.

This has forced Ramaphosa into the position of saying and acting in ways to diffuse Malema’s accusations and be seen to be forcing change. He also had to distance himself with the past scandals of the mine massacre etc. Thus land appropriation into the big issue and he starts acting on it ASAP to show Ramaposa and the ANC are bringing about the promised change and that he is not the white man’s lackey.

The change of leadership from Zuma to Ramaphosa thus forced the land issue into the limelight.

Ramaphosa has tried to attach a bit of smallprint to the land appropriation, that it must not damage the economy and nor must it threaten food security, etc. However:
* Nobody hears the smallprint. They just hear the bit about land. Wriggling out is dangerous and any reversal will be political suicide.
* The damage is done anyway. What farmer is going to keep operating a farm under those sorts of condition? Where does he get loans from to buy seed, fuel, fertilizer and money to pay and feed his staff? What bank will lend money? What insurance company will insure? From some anecdotes, over 20% of farmland is already idle because of this and no doubt the numbers will be worse this season and even worse next season. That’s 20% less food this season and 20% of farm workers now looking for alternative employment.

There are over half a million farm workers in South Africa (mostly black) with little to no training for any other occupation. Given the size of rural families, that’s probably 2.5 million mouths that depend directly on farm work. If we add on down-stream jobs (people working in rural towns and support industries that depend on agricultural spending, food processing, banking, etc) then it is easy to double that.

Even those farmers that continue to operate are unlikely to invest significantly in new euipment or land development. Why spend millions on a cenral pivot that might get taken from you tomorrow? Anyway, what bank is going to lend you the money? The farms rot, productivity goes down.

So even if land is left in the hands of the white farmers, their position is still fragile and unworkable as are the people who directly depend on them. Game over, either way.

Nor will this remain within areas that are legitimately contested. If white land can be taken up near Zimbabwe, then why not white lands in Kwa Zulu Natal or elsewhere? Arguments about legitimate purchase etc will fall on deaf ears. If the Northern leaders (Ramaphosa etc) are giving land to the Northern people (who might have very legitimate claims) then the Zulus and Xhosa will demand they get land too (even though their claims might be far less legitimate). To have it perceived that the Notherners (scum in the eyes of the Zulu) are getting preferential treatment is going to activate the warrior gene. And nobody has ever done warrior better than the Zulus.

This in itself can easily esculate into tribal conflict – apart from inevitable civil stress caused by the destruction of farms and the resulting food shortages, loss of employment and migration of people.

So in many ways Ramaphosa is worse than Zuma on the farming and food security front. He might be mouthing the soundbites that the Western luvvies want to hear, but what actually happens on the ground is likely to be very different.

        It is disingenuous to only look at land held by individuals. Any true conversation about land should:
        
        1) Include all tribal trust lands. For example 4 million Zulus (8% of the SA population) live on and farm Ingonyama trust land. There are no trust lands for Afrikaners (or other whites).
        2) Not treat land as being of uniform quality. Twenty acres of Karoo is worth less than one acre of Xhosa lands.
        3) Breeding rates: Blacks have bred at about 5 to 10 times what whites have since the 1850s, so clearly their per-person size of the pie is going to shrink.

        stephie: You might have realised by now this is a blog and not a 5 year history course. I can only paint a broad-brush outline to what is currently going on.
        
        sahistory is a bit like New Zealand’s TeAra. It is not exactly a an unbiassed source.
        
        The idea that only 7% of arable land is in black hands is beyond absurd. The tribal land areas in Kwa Zulu Natal and Transkei areas are more than 7% of South Africa’s land area on their own.
        
        Those are the best areas, which is why the strongest tribes (Zulu and Xhosa) occupy them. They threw everyone else out. If there was better land in South Africa the Zulus would be living there instead. And they are still living there.
        
        So clearly the idea that the whites took the best land is open to some questioning.
        
        The vast majority of the South Africa (area wise) is not really arable land and that forms the bulk of the white land holdings by area.

She says her sister thinks the new leader is great and he doesn’t want to turn the country into another Zimbabwe, just open up unused land to black farmers.     When times get desperate, people think of themselves first.
    
    No doubt there are many city dwelling whites who are happy to see the focus put on farmers because it takes the heat off them. Chuck the farmers under the bus and maybe they get another few months of peace.
    
    People living in South Africa clutch onto straws of hope. They hope that throwing out Zuma and replacing him with Ramaphosa will fix everything, just like they all waved their rainbow nation flags in 1994. Zuma has said he will root out corruption. I personally think these are just warm fuzzy soundbites to appease the easily-appeased western journalists (who, let’s face it, are willfully ignorant and still lap up the “rainbow nation” hype).
    
    The last fact to consider is that whites are not homogeneous. They are tribal too. There is no love lost between Afrikaners and English speakers (or between Cape Afikaners and Transvaal Afrikaners for that matter). If the woman being interviewed was English speaking then she could still sleep easy if the Afrikaner farmers are getting shafted.

As the day begins here, in South Africa tens (hundreds?) of thousands of families will be going to bed with the reality that they will soon be homeless and without an income. They might even be stripped of their personal belongings….. who knows what will happen in the next few months?

  The time to help was 5 years ago, or even better, 30 years ago.
  
  While I don’t condone apartheid, it did provide structure. The West were all too quick to rip into apartheid without providing an alternative structure.
  
  Before you destroy things, make sure there’s a solid plan for succession.

  South Africa needs a return to Apartheid. It was a system that despite sanctions from Western moralisers detached from reality, delivered a strong economy, little corruption, law and order and a reliable infrastructure. It was such a great place to live for Blacks, that millions upon millions flocked there from the rest of Africa in search of a better life.

    People confuse “gender” with “gender expression.” One is genetically determined for life, and there are normally two of them.

I was in Masterton during the week. New World had real checkout people operating the express lane. It was really nice to see the human touch as we’ve become so used to buying from computers. The human touch days are numbered unfortunately and will only be accelerated by the NZ Trade Unions Party (whose policies have electoral support of a touch more than 1 in 3)

    We’re getting notifications from our suppliers already about price increases and to maintain profit we increase prices accordingly. After all, I don’t see that any business is morally obliged to turn into a social welfare agency and give it all away just because. I see Twyford and the Coalition are talking up the state house they have given the ok for to be built in the provinces and after Four Months in government and with a housing crisis in Auckland it seems there is no urgency to start building their. One hundred thousand houses over ten years and none built by this Government with only the houses commissioned by National about to be unveiled. Even our media have not held this Goverment to account after pumping homeless and lack of housing for over two years so we really have to ask who is receiving back handers and what have they been promised by this loony coalition.

Am going to watch Dame Annette as present Acting Chair of EQC who has been told to sort out all the outstanding Claims from the EQs. About 2,500 it appears.
EQC is taxpayers money so she can dish out as much as she wants if that is where the claims are irrespective of anything.
But many are Insurance Company problems, one of which is that most claims have already been settled with the policy holders at the time of the EQs.
But obviously a number of those sold out after settlement to new owners.
These are not party to the recompense from the Insurance Company who settled with the previous owners but now want additional settlement. But they are not the policy holders who were insured at the time of the settlement of loss so Insurance Companies cannot settle anything further with the new owners.
Will watch her Dameship with interest and look forward to being told how she is doing regularly as there appears to be a three months time limit on this.

  Paulus. 2600 are the claims EQC currently knows it has either unsettled or in dispute. There are many thousands more wrongly assessed claims or botched repairs that haven’t yet come to light.
  
  Woods has opened the door to testing in court by way of declaratory judgment, how much EQC should have paid for land damage. An issue that faded away because individuals couldn’t afford to challenge EQC’s position. But now Woods says the government may fund such group action, exposing EQC (taxpayers) to a potentially large liability.
  
  And on a related note, I think reinsurers will react badly if the Col CHCH peoples committees are empowered to make decisions outside established NZ contract law.
  
  Woods is a well meaning blusterer but commercially naive.

  So Dame Annette now has three sinecures that I’m aware of – Chair of the EQC, Chair of Watercare (courtesy Phil Goff) and High Commissioner to Australia. They should bring in a few bob on top of her taxpayer-funded goldplated Government super that she had to cart away in a wheelbarrow. And I suppose she will want her regular super as well. My recollection is that her only contribution to the people of NZ was to fuck up the health system and get involved in some sort of rort with the Hawkes Bay DHB.

I heard that a Council was owed large sums in unpaid rates on properties where there were no mortgages. Collection is easy where there is a mortgage as councils tap the mortgagee on the shoulder and the mortgagee pays adding this to the mortgage.
But mortgage free properties were the problem and the Council was not bothering to have the High Court sell the properties (as is happening to Penny Bright in Auckland).
However the law allows councils (as I read the Act) to impose a 10% penalty for rates paid late and another 10% six months later (including the original penalty) and so on. Now Councils can borrow money at 5% or less per year so it would be more profitable for the Council not to take action. This seems to be the attitude of the Council in question. It would become untenable if the arrears become so great as to affect its borrowing capacity, although lenders are pretty safe since the borrowing is secured by the ability to levy rates. Anyway the Council could clean up rates arrears in a year if it chose to.
So perhaps Auckland Council should have just sat on its hands and held out until Penny Bright’s property is finally sold. The buyer’s lawyer would then settle all rates arrears from the purchase price and Penny would have been aghast at how much it cost her in penalties.

        While the plant is ramping up production they will have to import Washers to stimulate and meet local demand. They want the Brand and product established. Those imports will be less profitable so that is an extra cost.However once the plant is built then it will take over the supply of the US market.
        So imports won’t then be needed. The problem disappears.
        Ironically the tariffs on competitors will increase the value of the plant making the washers locally.
        Oh, he also omits the local Mayor is a Hillary supporting Democrat.

In fact ever since Labour declared it a crisis that has been a frequent catalyst to growth. There is a lot of Kiwi ingenuity being utilised in the manufacturing industry growth as well as a lot of cleaver hard working people.

  Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes while chimps/bonobos have 24 pairs of chromosomes. That contradicts evolutionary theory and can’t be reconciled. Therefore there can be no claim of “absolute evidence” and in fact we know for certain that there is no link.

    Chromosomes do it all the time when they get sticky.
    There are an infinite number of chromosome rearrangements in humans.

but it’s still the flu. Where is the evolution? You get that flu shot because samples of pig flu in China are chosen as a best guess as to which will reach other parts of the world. I’m not seeing how your religious dogma of evolution matters.
But you aren’t all that intelligent so it’s no wonder you cited an example with no relation to the topic.

Evolution has explained nothing. Where do you get the idea that it is a “theory”?? Theories require plausible chains of events that allow testing and repeatable OBSERVABLE ressults . In order for any lifeform to “evolve” to a higher level of organism the species must somehow GAIN additional genetic information which will allow for more and more complex structures to form…AND THIS HAS NEVER EVER HAPPENED…AND …there is no know way it COULD happen. What passes for “theory” is the idea that simple little things somehow turn into big complex things over long periods of time. Pure hogwash. Go Trump!

(Later): Most odd; While the ‘Post Count’ was 499 when I made my post as per Monique’s request, , it now shows 506 posts, despite nothing following my ‘500’ post.

Although this should now supposedly be post No. 501, the ‘machine’ has decided that it is actually No. 507.

Perhaps the ‘machine’ can’t count?
