Whilst New Zealand has been focusing on the comings and goings of baby Neve Te Aroha (poor kid), I’ve been following the developments of the so called “scandal” from the US Border since Edward Felsenthal’s Time Magazine published perhaps the dirtiest piece of outright bullshit and propaganda in recent years.

In response, Trump delivered a truly outstanding speech to the American People (time stamped below) that turned the tables by saying that yes, whist he is carrying out Clintons and Obamas policies, people should remember that 63,000 Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens since 2001.

63,000!

As far as I’m aware, this had pretty much zero MSM coverage so the public remain in the dark as they are fed (fake) stories of little children whilst military age men continue to pour across Americans Southern border.

Sensing a mood change in the public as attitudes continued to harden towards immigration,the MSM has doubled down and are trying to paint due process being shown to people illegally sneaking across borders to a……drumroll please…..Holocaust.

        If the figure was incorrect, the media would have said so.
        
        That said, the figure is almost certainly wrong. what Trump clearly meant is that 63,000 are known to have been killed by illegal aliens. This leaves open the question of unsolved murders, which I understand would be around 10%.
        
        The actual number of Americans killed by illegals will definitely be higher than 63,000. Assuming the murders were pro rated, it would be closer to 70,000.

      But all the same, I think it unwise to quote a figure of that nature unless it is tolerably well supported. I don’t think we could complain if there is reasonable evidence or inferred evidence that the figure is around that number, but if it is unsubstantiated and just “plucked out of thin air” then it diminishes the issue and the speaker.

    it is now 2018. The few MSM outlets that have reported Trumps speech (such as Martin Barons’s Washington Post), are trying to “debunk” it by saying it came from who have been reporting the fake news are citing a 2006 study.

    As we see with the EU Marrakesh Political Declaration, immigration from Africa is endless and as the rhetoric against white people via carefully crafted sophistry, it will be white people suffering the genocide at some indeterminate point.

        In NZ low level crime is decreasing- partly because of police actions such as pre charge warning- and other demographic changes.
        The higher level violent crime and including homicide here definitely isnt decreasing

  So its an extra 13 per day killed in car accidents caused by ‘illegal migrants’

Twitford and the COL (taxpayer) plan to assist setting up large industrial prefabricated housing plant/s in NZ to build “thousands of houses a year over multiple years”. The scale of prefab houses required will be enormous if Phil is to achieve his Kiwibuild dream.

    Actually there’s no reason why an automated production line can’t be built to do this. We do actually have a NZ company that builds mass manufacturing production lines. There’s no reason why a 100 houses per day factory can’t be built. There’s no reason why a 10,000 home per day factory couldn’t be built as well as having 20 different designs from the same lines. Of course you design the factory to suit demand and that may be for 30 a day for 10,000 a year.
    I however don’t put much faith in politicians to achieve the obviously possible.
    Carry on with your monopoly, it’s stimulating.

      It is about time somebody did this and the National Party were useless on this point.

        Land was cheap, builders very able, good quality products (often kauri), no insulation, no gib board, just your basic well built home, no stupid council compliance costs, no GST and generally all Borough councils.   Houses are pretty much prefabricated anyway.
  
  Trusses, framing, kitchens, windows, doors etc they’re all made offsite.
  
  The problem is and always will be lack of people on site, when you’re waiting for sub trades or only have a couple of chippies on site permanently a house build is always going to take 2-3 months.

  I’m all for automation BUT……
  I see a tiny little flaw in Phillis’ plan, a few actually.
  1. How long will it take to build this factory?
  2. Where’s the money for the factory coming from?
  3. Once built, where are you going to put them?
  4. Land costs being the bulk cost of housing, how much is saved?
  5. How to transport these houses, once built, to site?
  6. Do we have enough transport trucks to move them to site?
  7. At 10000 per year, are we transporting 28 houses per day to site, has he seen Auckland’s traffic?
  8. How are RMA and building permits effected?
  9. Can’t prefab the plumbing and electric?
  10. Roads to these new houses?
  11. Once all the local (to the factory) houses are on site and occupied, will we have to move the factory closer to where the houses are to be located, or will the transport costs be prohibitive?
  12. Since he prefers high density housing, how is he going to prefab a block of flats or high rise?
  I’m sure, if I think a little longer, I can come up with even more things he hasn’t thought of.

Then it got even better saying it had been the same with previous Labour governments also reducing business confidence because of “perception”. We on the other hand see it as standard Labour MO.     Wealthy retired people have their assets in trusts. Super may very well be their only declarable income while they are off on a Mediterranean cruise. Income or asset testing of retired people is just not worth the trouble. Anyway they have been grossly overtaxed during their working lives so why shouldn’t they get some back?

      Technically if the government has debt then the average citizen has taken more in services than they have payed tax for. Has a person who is rich due to inheritance but got a degree, never used it, went on the DPB, then raised a grandchild on the DPB, then went on the over 50s DPB, ever worked hard and paid far to much tax?
      I don’t think anybody should get this heating benefit as theres no guarantee that they will use the heater. The power companies need a good looking at as there’s no doubt in my mind that there overcharging.

    @holysheet sweet cheeks draws a log bow but it is a head adornment and not one for any arrow. He frequently repeats the 384,000 who will be better off with the Families Package due to kick in July 1st. Actually this illustrates the velocity of money in a negative fashion. Their “perception” is that this will stimulate the economy but sadly is yet another of those backfiring interventions.
    The funding needs to be drawn down from the public purse first for it to start spinning. We have no doubt it will all be spent but is more likely to be a much less stimulus to the economy as much will go on other forms of stimulus for the spender. So for the COL they will only generate more negative results from this artificial stimulus while increasing the circulation rate.
    This is opposed to the 1,400,000 who would have already be enjoying their tax cuts since April the first as they provide true stimulus in what would have remained a strong economy. Now who is the April fool?

  A fine line here. There are arguments both sides. If the supplement was being paid to beneficiaries at large, this raises the issue of whether all those on Super should receive it or only those who need it (ie those with little or no other income). There would be a logistical problem if the supplement was to be paid selectively. The opposite argument is Super is being increased but with seasonal variations in payments.
  For various reasons, restricting or means testing Super is in general right off the table at present and will remain so as long as Winston is around. Both National and Labour (although not Labour in its current mood) would have a desire under the surface to redistribute Super from those who do not need it to more fruitful areas.
  Simon’s major concern is the present Government is sprinkling money like confetti to those who do not really need it instead of targeting it to those in real need and in this context sees the Super supplement in this context. Possibly he was unaware that in including the Super supplement he was by implication questioning why Super was being paid to all over 65’s (who meet residency requirements). However any prospective Prime Minister or Minister of Finance will always have the idea of limiting Super (lifting age eligibility and/or means testing) at the back of his or her mind and would move accordingly if the political climate was conducive to change. While many reasonably wealthy people would not be too upset at a Super roll-back, there would be some with a sense of entitle-itis who would squeal like stuck pigs.

    Super will never be means tested. The social contract requires it and people are taxed for it. Even the pension is taxed.
    
    If you have ever experienced dealing with elderly taxpayers you would want to exempt them entirely from tax. Means testing is not an optimal choice. WINZ do it with some of their payments and they can very dubious too as to their determinations. WINZ pay what they say.

      The reason Super and various benefits are ‘taxed’ is because it enables any income over and above to be appropriately taxed without complication. If Super was no longer to be taxed it does not mean a sudden increase of cash in hand, it means the net super amount received would stay the same. Those who think Super should not be ‘taxed’ are effectively asking for a significant hike (15% or so) in super payments.
      As for ‘social contract’, there is a level of support for reviewing super arrangements such as further raising the eligibility age. Labour has accepted in the past that but wanted to retain the existing eligibility age for those who have ‘worked hard’ in their careers (eg labourers, trades etc). That is tricky to define, but an alternative would be for those between 65 and the new set age to be paid full super if they do not have other income.
      Nothing will happen in the three years after 2020 since National and Labour will need to keep any adverse Super changes ‘off the table’.

Sooner or later the public are going to work out Phil has no plan and it is exactly the same as National was already doing except Labour want to con the public it is theirs.

  So Hugh you can build all these houses for the poor but what happens when they trash a place or stop paying rent. We will go back to homelessness again and all the taxpayers money that has been taken for these house will be wasted as some of these families don’t care about their kids it’s more about their needs alcohol, drugs, smokes or takeaways. The best investment in these families is to teach them parenting skills, how to grow food and children’s needs like housing and clothes comes before their luxuries.

More of the nanny state. It is reported that the UK govt in a bid to end childhood obesity are planning to require restaurants to include calorie counts against each menu option.

Red Radio then gave a sample of interviews of punters in Queen St & a self appointed expert saying how they thought this was a good idea.
What rubbish. The only way to cut the type of obesity they are talking about is cut the money the kids get, get them off their electronic devices and get them to go outdoors & do exercise. We don’t need the nanny state.

    A small amount of exercise makes little difference, but a lifestyle change that increases energy usage every day adds up to quite a lot over time. Just making kids walk to school instead of driving them accounts for much more than the difference between a healthy weight and NZers average weight.
    
    A 20 minute walk (e.g. to school and back) burns about 70 calories for an adult. Let’s assume it is only 50 calories for a child. Multiply that by 13 years of schooling at 38 weeks per year. A total of 123,500 calories which corresponds to 35 pounds of body weight at a conversion rate of 3500 calories per pound.
    
    The numbers may be a little off (and I’m no good with the metric system) but the conclusion is clear.

      Developing public transport means people get to walk between bus stops/ train stations, instead of hopping in the car.

    I have been maintaining my weight to 80kg* the past couple of years simply by only having two meals a day … but I am in retirement which makes that easier than if I was working with tea-breaks and cakes etc.
    * from the 90-95 which was my ‘normal weight’ in the past. I tuck into sweets etc more these days too than I used to. obviously I’m doing something wrong 🙂

In the last couple of days Saudi Arabia has allowed women to drive. However I believe they still have to have permission from their husband/father/brother to venture out of the house.
What a peculiar country.

Maybe as time moves on things will improve for women over there.
I have a copy of my mother’s 1945 UK passport. Back in those days the wife was added to the husband’s passport along with the kids. So if she couldn’t get her hands on his passport, for whatever reason, she couldn’t leave the country.
Fortunately the UK has moved on since then.

    in 2008 National who promised a fast jet airforce backed away because they too didnt want to have a capital spend of $1.5 bill plus annual extra spend of $250 mill. Prices have gone up since then.

Socialists don’t understand Newton’s Law:

I have long believed that National governments over thought the side effects of their actions while Labour governments don’t even consider them, they simply don’t care about chaos. Now in the weekend the All Blacks had a good victory in Dunedin’s covered stadium and since the E/quakes, figures in Chch have pushed for their own covered stadium, too which Labour has agreed to fund the stadium’s cost (why other cities don’t beg for their own covered stadium I don’t know) but don’t these idiots realise that a covered stadium in Christchurch will only halve the number of high profile events in Dunedin. Dunedin bankrupted itself building the thing. The likely outcome is two stadiums which are uneconomic to maintain.

  Dunedin’s event management team have worked hard over several years to build a reputation and put relationships in place. Christchurch will find there is more involved than just building a stadium and could be several years before the thing pays off. However, would be great if they could start pulling in the acts who don’t come South. Dunedin’s runway isn’t big enough to get the gear in for the bands like U2, Rolling Stones, Cold Play etc

I have no idea how legitimate these complaints are. They could be cases of young women who have had a bit too much to drink and regret consensual sex later. These young women are all adults. If a criminal offence has occurred they should complain to the police.

Just compare Labour’s attitude to these complaints and the victims at the Labour Youth Camp. They assume those accused are guilty the former but tried to cover up the perpetrator who sexually abused young victims in the latter case.

  Such simplistic, trivial arguments.
  
  You can’t do anything ‘official’ when you’re drunk/drugged, can’t work, consent to surgery or even a medical test, can’t drive or anything else that holds a level of serious responsibility and/or life/death effect. Adult or child.
  
  But the ‘children’ in the community think it’s okay to create a new human being and/or risk a terminal STI and/or take on a lifetime responsibility and expense when you’re drunk and that’s okay. It seems that every individual now believes they have ‘lord of the manor’ “rights” to screw whoever/whatever they feel like at the time and escape all consequences and/or make others pay them.
  
  Just as well I’m not in charge. I’d make sex while drunk/drugged a form of ‘statutory rape’. No-one, male or female, can be considered to have ‘consented’ to anything while drunk/drugged, certainly not something which is very likely to result in someone’s death – be it adult or child.
  
  The Left/Labour are caught between a rock and a hard place – championing their ‘rights’ to uncontrolled behaviour on the one hand versus their ‘rights’ to protection on the other. In fact, the whole society is, refusing to recognise the obvious anomalies.
  
  Before the consequences, sex is all presented as ‘fun’ which people should be allowed to engage in at will, without limit .
  
  After the consequences, it’s a ‘disaster’ which can turn peoples lives into long-term misery if not short-term death and requires endless taxpayers money and support in everything from medical research and treatment to social welfare, education, and housing – not to mention a great deal of angst.
  
  But still, apparently never the twain concepts shall meet in determining human behaviour, attitudes, and culture. What could possibly go wrong?

      The capacity of human beings to split hairs and/or distract with tangents never fails to amaze me.
      
      Firstly, nevertheless – someone who has had ‘a bit too much to drink’ to the extent of making a decision they later ‘regret’ implies they would not have made that decision without alcohol.
      
      One could, then, say that their ‘normal faculties were impaired’ when making the decision. As being drunk can be defined as ‘affected by alcohol to the extent of losing control of one’s faculties or behaviour’ – I have no difficulty in construing that someone who makes a decision after drinking alcohol which they would not have made if not having drunk the alcohol can be said to be ‘drunk’.
      
      Secondly, what sort of idiocy is the question, ‘Are you aware that in many cases both parties have had too much to drink but only the man is held to account?”
      
      Of course I’m aware of it. What, in anything I’ve said, implies that I agree with it or am suggesting that? Women are every bit as responsible as men and should be equally held to account. But then, stop complaining. That only relates to sex – which men tend to treat as some sort of game of wits (and some women too).
      
      Men and women are equally prosecuted for driving drunk. They don’t have to hurt anyone – or even drive badly. They just have to have drunk a minimal amount of alcohol – and some lobby for zero tolerance at that. They just have to ‘take the risk’.
      
      Sexually, any man/woman can ‘risk’ anything you can dream of, with consequent immense costs for the rest of everyone else’s life/death, and the taxpayer, with complete impunity. It’s all ‘fun’, entertainment, stress relief etc.
      
      Give me one rational reason why that should be so.

        What on earth does my ‘humility’ have to do with purposely sought and completely needless death, disease, misery, and $billions cost in the name of ‘fun’ – which is actually just satisfying the same primitive urge expressed by all life forms including viruses and bacteria (possibly prompted by them in some cases, much as rabid dogs bite others)?
        
        As in the case of HdPA’s rant, what we call ‘progressive’ – giving ourselves over completely to those urges – is in total defiance of previously learned ‘wisdom’ such as ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ or ‘a fence at the top of the cliff instead of an ambulance at the bottom’ is better.

Since yesterday when Cindy included “Te Aroha” as the name of her child, the msm has changed its narrative on the hometown of the child’s mother. Morrinsville, some 50kms or more west of Te Aroha township was heralded as the place Cindy grew up, went to HS, and had her first job in the local fish n chip shop. Poor cousin Morrinsville has now been dropped like a stone for the much-heralded township of Te Aroha. The local TA mayor has also launched a marketing campaign based on Cindy “grew up under the mountain she loves.” and is calling for tourists to visit. ?

The wardens at a refuge are kicking a woman and her 3 kids out, even though her violent husband is due to be released from prison shortly.
In their opinion, the family are not in danger.
Jeez…what do you have to do to convince these women….end up dead?
And isn’t Labour supposed to increase funding to refuges by a massive amount?

        I already read that article.
        I support WR too, I even donate to them.
        But I doubt the workers are all as perfect as you think.
        There were two cases in the past when young women were murdered after being kicked out of refuges.
        One was apparently kicked out because she owed them $20.
        Seems her life was worth less.
        I had the misfortune to need the services of refuge many years ago.
        I met some incredibly lovely women in charge.
        Strangely enough they never seemed to stay there long.
        I suspect they were bullied out by the dragons who stayed there for 10 or 20 years, and were only removed if there were enough written complaints or they were caught ripping them off.
        Let’s hope WR is not reverting back to the bad old days.

        WR is supposed to provide refuge for women and children escaping violence.
        The man this family is hiding from was so violent, he was jailed for 18 months.
        His conviction is the proof that he is a dangerous man.
        That is why they need refuge.
        If WR don’t want to protect this family, the least they should do is arrange for another safe house for them to stay in.
        This is not a case of someone simply needing accommodation.

Their argument is: “Spending millions on contractors while denying our members a cost of living pay increase is poor practice, and it’s not in the spirit of the new Government’s expectations for the public sector.”

  “It starts on 1 July, and members are told they will have to process this manually, drastically increasing their workload.”
  OMG they might have to do some work instead of trolling social network all day. Unfortunately there is not much left after having to fund 125 expert panels and groups. It’s 5:06 a.m. and bright and sunny here in the Cotswolds. (We are enjoying good weather in England.)
There are cameras everywhere here, and I get a sense of a subtle conformity that is stronger than in the New World of New Zealand, but more in keeping with the Old World. In Japan, pressure to conform comes from the bottom up, but here in England I feel more that it is from the top down.
I am shocked at how the houses are so identical in terms of size, external appearance and color within a given suburb. Little boxes on the flat land (not on the hillside) but without the variation in color the ones in the song had.

  The lavender is in full bloom, Wimbledon about to start, the parks are full, the green tinge has been burned off the cricket wickets with strawberries and Pimms in abundance.
  
  If you get this message, I’d highly recommend a visit to a pub in the Cotswold village of Swinbrook called the Swan Inn on the banks of the river Windrush.
  
  An utterly bucolic place for lunch or dinner on an English Summers day.

Cumulative 2018 net Chinese FDI in the US is negative if one includes asset divestitures: Chinese investors sold $9.6 billion of US assets in the first five months of 2018, mostly driven by deleveraging pressures from Beijing. With these divestitures, China’s net US direct investment is negative to the tune of $7.8 billion so far this year.

A video of a man punching a possum in the face has been condemned by animal rights groups as an act of “deliberate cruelty” – not pest control.

In a short clip posted to Facebook on Monday by Newstalk ZB radio show The Country, a young man can be seen approaching a possum sitting on a fence post on a farm in Waimate.

“The SPCA is disappointed to see such deliberate animal cruelty inflicted on a possum,” a spokesperson told Newshub.

“Punching a stunned possum in the face is not pest control.”

The incident has been referred to the SPCA Inspectorate, a group with the power to prosecute people who deliberately harm animals.

      Nasska: the SPCA has to spend thousands of its own funds, with no government funding (unless that has changed in recent times), to prosecute people for extreme cruelty to animals.

So what happened?

Hamilton councillor James Casson posted on his public Facebook page on Thursday that the “jobs for the boys” concept was not dead after learning a councillor who has only been in the role for four months and beaten him and others to the position. When asked what he meant by the cryptic post, Casson said mayor Andrew King had decided to appoint new councillor Ryan Hamilton to the role of deputy chair of community and services committee despite both he and fellow councillor Siggi Henry expressing interest in it last year.

James Casson is disappointed that he missed out on the gravy trough. The article is worth reading as Siggi Henry thinks she missed out too. “She had been attending community events with former councillor Philip Yeung after he took her under his wing as a new councillor and decided to keep doing that after his death”. FFS – attending community events means you get to slop around in gravy?! The sense of entitlement to public money just for keeping a seat warm is amazing!
