  ASB break down the numbers as follows:
  
  3% foreign corporates
  8% NZ visa holders
  10% NZ corporates
  
  So the 8% is people who are entitled to live here and will be occupying a house regardless of whether they buy or rent. When they choose to buy it does not reduce the number of houses available for the rest of us.
  
  The 10% includes every Mum and Dad with an LAQC so it’s absurd to suggest they might all be foreign owned, just because the bank doesn’t know the residential status of the shareholders. Even some of the 3% may have NZ resident shareholders.

  This is a BS stat. When I bought my house 7 years ago, I was an NZ visa holder! That is I had Permanent Residence Status, but wasn’t yet a citizen. I would have been in this group, even though at that point I’d lived in NZ for 5 years, only leaving the country once for 14 days.

    Counting different things . Stats numbers include ‘non sales’ like an estate transferred to beneficiaries and family trust transfers.
    They even have specialised codes for these sorts of things in the title transfer system, thats how they know

NZ government can only spend 30% of GDP. This is both for National & Labo. (IMF have set this amount??)

Anyway with government spending capped it comes down to which party is more competent in spending the 30%, and which party can grow GDP.

(National didnt get 50% last election because of open door immigration, their way to boost GDP, which created infrastructure & social issues)

There are also social issues which can also be partially address with legislation. Such as Angry Little insane attempt to release criminals into society. ( Why do so many on the left hate normal people so much?)

Anyway with spending capped at 30% Labo cant piss money away to cover up their many horrible fuck ups. Labo dont have a plan to grow GDP.

It will all be too hard for them. Hence many Labo ministers & Peters already cracking open.

  The government may be committed to capping expenditure to 30 percent of GDP. But there is no requirement that it does so, or that it must always do so. And the 30 percent number has nothing to do with the IMF.
  
  The public finance act specifies that the government must do the following.
  
  “once prudent levels of total debt have been achieved, maintaining those levels by ensuring that, on average, over a reasonable period of time, total operating expenses do not exceed total operating revenues”
  
  There is nothing in there about expenditure being capped at 30 percent of GDP.

        Surely we cannot have any court rulings, let alone Supreme Court rulings, being contravened by no less than an Attorney General, on the basis that computer systems have been updated, and therefore all previous data has been conveniently “wiped”.

  Theres too much hysteria about old operating systems. These internal systems are expected to be ‘wide open to the internet’ and are fine. The trouble is more like staff training and fixing bugs. But if you are happy to live with them – most bugs you dont know about anyway- and for isolated cases of extracting old data . Easy peasy

  Like the speed at which the PSA virus spread through the kiwifruit industry, mycoplasma bovis speed of spread has been faster than one can move cows from Central Canterbury to Northland.
  
  I would have thought the best method of control was to test for m-bovis at the same time as the TB testing is done (is TB testing still done?). Infected cows with either disease are culled and no cows can be moved from that farm until all are cleared in a second round of testing.

    Gerrit – Whilst it is relatively simple to spread m-bovis around the south island, we should have had biosecurity at Picton to monitor stock movements across Cook Strait. Not doing this was a massive fail !
    
    Then – at least m-bovis would have been confined to the south island.
    
    I have crossed the strait a number of times this year, and whilst I have been asked about fishing and tramping, there has NEVER been a question about dairy farms – even when I was wearing gumboots with evidence blatantly obvious !
    
    Now it is too late. MPI and the Minister deserve a real bollocking over this – there has been very little effort at containment, and what effort has been made seems to be driven by the industry with little – if any – input from MPI !

  The programme seemed to be a bunch of primary school children slagging off Mike Hosking and someone else for not having orgasms over that stupid little woman’s baby.

      Yes I remember that and I thought it was in extremely bad taste. And there are other notable leftie wankers on sometimes as well who’s names escape me, but you’ll probably know who I mean…
      
      I still watch the show, though, because it is generally extremely funny and the regulars are very good. They even make fun sometimes (but not so often) of the present ‘government’.
      
      I think 7 Days is a credit to New Zealand’s great talent and creativity. There’s nothing else on TV3 that comes anywhere close; particularly the programmes that often follow it attempting to continue the comedy vibe – usually complete failures.
      
      I’d like to see a couple of right wing panellists rotating on 7 Days. It would be great to see the cut-and-thrust of some good natured and funny talent from opposite sides of the spectrum.

Barry Sopers column in the Herald this morning waffling on about like him or hate him Winston First deserves respect from the media after Duncan and Mark ridiculed him on the AM Show yesterday for not being their at his allotted time and saying they would get someone else to fill the PM spot. Well while I don’t care for Garners political leanings it is his show and like most things with the arrogant politician he gives no respect to most people and is quick to either slander some under Parliamentry Privilege or blame them for his own misgivings, a great example is his pension over payments. Winston First is a leech that that cons old people into voting for him and his Party and then never gets to give them what he has promised apart from the pensioners card which goes back many years, so if he wants respect maybe he should learn to respect others and keep his promise’s would be a good start.

* Closing of charter schools.

ps, I freely admit to not knowing too much about the ‘Business Confidence’ index or how it works. I just had a look at the list of confidence from around the world and it seems that New Zealand is sitting at minus 27.2 (-27.2). It seems to be the country with the lowest confidence on the list, with Angola second at -15. Our business confidence is worse than Angola?

  I see it more like a popularity contest, in which Labour governments are going to always look bad, in that they tend to be more employee (read: union) friendly than National governments.
  If we had a employee-confidence rating I would expect to see a similar trend, but in reverse.

I am impressed with the very careful management by Stuff and the Dom Post to minimise then remove all articles about the Labour Party camp sexual predator in less than 12 hours off its websites.

The first came on at 8:57am yesterday- in small print and not as a headline article – and by 3pm had progressively been moved as far as possible down the page to as discreet a spot as possible. There was just one other article in small print that was placed well down the page, off to one side in small print.

Checking today both articles have completely disappeared, including under the politics page. I guess Stuff thinks that was enough time to be seen to be being bipartisan.

Meanwhile after days and days we still have multiple articles about a messianic baby and its amazing parents. A baby that is carrying a Government.

Good to see Stuff putting its relationship with left wing politics ahead of victims of sexual assault.

    Do you want your dog knifed? Then what?
    
    It’s difficult with a pistol to hit a moving target, even a close one, and your German Shepherd would be moving the intruder around. The Shepherd could get shot.
    
    You would get a far clearer shot if you kept the Shepherd away.
    
    For the girl’s Mum, even if she had a German Shepherd, it might be the pistol or the dog, but not both. You don’t need to feed a pistol or take it for walks, and range practice isn’t boring.

        How come you reject the idea of killing animals for food to sustain human life, but have no problem sacrificing them to keep you alive in the face of killer – rather than just shooting the killer and keeping the responsibility where it belongs.
        
        Of course, I know you don’t think that.
        
        And again, of course, you’re in complete denial of those who train dogs to attack other animals/people, whether singly or in numbers. Animals can be used to kill just like guns can – everything can, right down to germs.

        Excuse ME Anne but I would never put my animals in danger to save my own skin.
        In fact, my hubby once had a pit bull sink it’s fangs into his leg defending our dog!
        This particular dog deterred criminals for 14 years and never bit anyone once (or was injured herself.)
        The bark has an amazing effect on would-be intruders.
        But if it’s a choice between the remote possibility of Fido being injured, or altetnatively packing heat, with all the attendant dangers of a firearm falling into the wrong hands, I’d risk the pooch.

  Since when would ‘NZ Lefties’ either think rationally or consider that victims should have the right to defend themselves, especially women and children? And, I mean, this was a NZ psychopath – entitled to attack others in their opinion, followed by a lengthy investigation and discourse on what social tragedies motivated them and how they can be ‘helped’.
  
  Who would then populate all their PC victim groups? What possible fun would their disciples have if the victims were allowed to fight back on equal terms – despite it catering to their goal of reducing the prison population? I can’t imagine Maori would approve either.
  
  Nevertheless, ‘go’ that mother! And may all mothers acquire the same spirit to defend their innocent (as in ‘not criminal’) children.

  I am following the Aussie commission very closely.I have a friend who was put in to receivership for no good reason and at the same time the same bank picked on 9 other farmers/producers.
  The bank thought my friend would end it all hut he didn’t. He has fought back and something is coming up very soon in court.

I’m surprised the Kuomintang – the China-friendly Auckland branches of the National Party – haven’t pointed out this obvious solution to Auckland’s housing crisis.

China has as many as 64 million vacant apartments. Fly Auckland’s homeless to China and give them NZ-subsidised rent and a locally relevant unemployment payment if there are no jobs (which is unlikely).

News from Australia: Court lifts suppression on identity of Adelaide student accused of supporting Islamic State

The ABC can now reveal 23-year-old Zainab Abdirahman-Khalif is charged with knowingly being a member of a terrorist organisation.

The woman was arrested by Australian Federal Police in May last year after allegedly trying to fly to Turkey on a one-way ticket.

She allegedly pledged her allegiance to Islamic State after communicating with extremists online who were involved in terrorist attacks in Kenya. The prosecution alleges the woman had been repeating oaths and singing songs connected to Islamic State in her bedroom.

It’s probably just a matter of time before someone in New Zealand moves from passive terrorism (singing songs connected to Islamic State in his or her bedroom) to active terrorism. It only takes one nutter…

One is constantly at loss for words when one see’s sentwences handed down to absolute aseholes.
We are left wondering if our Judges have lost sight of sentencing for the good of the community and the victims.

todays case goes like this. # hours and at least 3 rapes on a lady by a perp who decided he was going to jail anyway and what did he get?

“The judge said Perawiti failing to speak to a pre-sentence report writer made sentencing difficult.

However, she found the offending to be partially pre-meditated and marked with violence.

“There is a degree of violence inherent in any rape, but your offending involved additional and significant violence, including strangulation.”

The physical harm was extensive, but the emotional pain would take much longer to heal, the judge said.

Although Perawiti had an extensive history of burglary, driving offences and non-compliance with court orders, he had no record of sexual violence, the judge said.

“I express the hope that during the course of your sentence… you can be open and honest with treatment providers.”

Perawiti was also sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment for the burglary of a scrap metal yard a month prior to the rape.

He was also given a warning under the three-strikes law for violent and sexual offending.

no mention of his jail term which should have been forever but please get treatment.
Worse only a 3 strikes WARNING. whatever that is.

Are these judges so desensitized to violence they think its normal?

Radio NZ National broadcasts 24/7 and I think you will find that there is very little content that is political at all, let alone content that would sustain a charge of partisan bias. It may well be that you are not listening to the radio enough, but reading too many comments about what morons think they might have heard on the radio.

  On matters, cultural, for example, both National and Labour seems to agree with most New Zealanders that we need a national museum, library, orchestra, radio and other civic amenities.

As stated I’ve written a long piece divided into six sections about the Crimes Amendment (Publicly Threatening and Inciting Violence) Bill 2018. I’m sorry Maggy I just couldn’t do your word limit. I got an email which I am having extreme trouble comprehending about me possibly going on the Maori roll.
I was asked the question;
Are you a New Zealand Maori or are you a descendant of a New Zealand Maori.
Hopefully somebody in Kiwiblog land can tell me how I can be a New Zealand Maori if I am not descended from a New Zealand Maori.
I have enjoyed posts on this blog from Ngati Mozart. I have always considered that learned gentleman to be a Kraut Maori. Which means that as a Kraut Maori (I presume the expression Boche Maori to be unacceptable) he is ineligible for the Maori roll as he is not a New Zealand Maori.
Sorry about the lack of macrons, but the only macron I know is a frog.

    You can’t define yourself in or out of a race, Milky.
    
    The concept of race is a bit flaky, but where the accepted concept of a particular race is based on inherited physical characteristics, eg skin colour, you just can’t opt in or opt out.
    
    When people are mixed race, it’s fluid which race they may identify with though. In NZ, which has a large number of mixed-race people, the practice seems to be: choose – Maori or white, with Maori being the current favourite.
    
    Perhaps we need an acceptable description rather than “part-Maori” or “part-white”. Something equivalent to mestizo, the term for people of mixed Spanish-Indigenous descent in Latin America, but modified so that today in Mexico it seems roughly to mean every Mexican citizen who does not speak an indigenous language.
