I love this meth in housing saga.

It’ll blow up in Twyford’s face, or force the wet National Party to grow a spine. Either way I call that a win.

Labour have National by the balls with it.

Essentially, the previous Government (quite rightly) evicted meth-using tenants from State Houses and barred them from reapplying for a period. In the main, Joe Average didn’t even know about this.

But this policy was 90% of the reason we saw so many sleeping in tents, cars etc. They weren’t ‘down on their luck’ – they had finally run out of track.

Ask your local property manager. Off the record, they’ll know them by name and reputation.

They’ll also tell you – if you’ve been kicked out of a State House, you’ve either been caught using meth, allowed meth users under your roof, haven’t paid rent, or you’re an aggressive shit head with unpleasant friends. One always goes with the other.

They’ll also tell you ferals evicted from State Houses for using meth have generally wrecked the place.
Once vacated, the properties usually need a total refurb anyway.

For National, the ‘hysteria’ being currently painted is easily defensible as being ‘responsible’ given meth contamination was a novel scenario, Health & Safety etc.

Plus, MSD couldn’t blame someone for meth contamination unless MSD had the house checked for it before the tenant they kicked out moved in. Nobody did that until quite recently.

Now, outrageously, Twyford not only wants to put the embarrassingly (for him) visible trash all back in State houses again, he may force providers to give the mongrels an apology and possibly even compo.

Choose a side and grow some balls National because just this week we have three stories that should be fatal for the Coalition

Illustrate to the electorate that the Coalition loves meth heads and their social wreckage, gang members and violent prisoners, and wants them in your community.

Plus, they get to pay for them with money and chaos – and a higher petrol cost to boot.

    Interesting, my dear-old mother still gets my late father’s “Build” magazine, which I take for a read (which pleases her). Anyway, quickly flicking through the pages there was a full page ad with four truely ugly faces at the top. So I stopped and read the ad and it was for the “Designex 2018” event which also doubled as a “Kiwibuild” conference. Not surprisingly the guests advertised were Phil (of shit) Twitford, Jenny “fingers in too many pies” Salesa and Phil (of shit) Goofy, yet the fourth guest speaker was the reason I stopped suddenly in the first place. Duncan Garner……what the f… is that guy doing at a Labour event? Says it all about his neutrality going forward. Leftist hack.

    Don’t be a halfwit.
    Everyone knows that if it is dangerous to be in a house where meth has been smoked then that user would be dead. This has been obvious from the start, but common sense goes out the window. Gluckman is of course correct, the other questions around meth totally destroying lives and families remain.

      So we keep being told about large numbers of littlies hospitalised each year for respiratory and other issues caused by cold, damp housing.
      
      Always the landlord’s fault of course so new rules are on the way.
      
      But where is the research on the impact of smoking – tobacco, week, P – and overcrowding.
      
      No, easier to blame landlords and make them pay.
      
      It’s the old story – no root cause analysis so spend lots on solving the wrong problem.

      Labour Bullshit. Tenants were kicked out of the houses because they: Did not pay Rent, Smoked P, Smashed the place up. After they were kicked out the place was tested.     I had a quick at Peter Gluckman’s report this morning. The most important line is “no data available on the health consequences of third hand contact”. He doesn’t know the answer. They used to say the same about smoking and lung cancer “There is no evidence”.

Twyford is desperate and will try every trick in the book to place these mongrels under a roof. The CoL is a shambles and why National don’t wake from their sleep on all the issues emerging is a mystery. The longer they remain mute, the stronger the call for Simon to step aside.

      P smoking might be OK in state housing. But private landlords are increasing testing at the start of a tenancy, again during if a bit sus, and definitely at the end.
      
      Off to the Tenancy Tribunal for eviction and costs if during a tenancy. And at the end for clean up costs and to make sure the tenants name are in lights on the TT database.

Why does Health need fixing again? I thought H1 and Annette King had already fixed it. The system is basically as Labour left it in 2008. Tony Ryall looked at the fundamental setup and decided it was reasonably workable as it was. Quite rightly he was unwilling to pull something apart and rebuild it for the sake of it. The one thing that he did have to do was divert money away from Labour’s pet projects that delivered little or no health to useful things like more elective surgery, reducing A&E waiting times etc.
So the proposed review suggests that Helen Clark and Annette King got it wrong in the first place or that the present Minister just wants to ‘let’s do this’.

    My wife needed a serious back op.
    But first she needed an op. to remove the bars from her back (there since childhood, one was broken).
    This 1st op would take 8 hrs.
    Date: around 2002.
    The surgeon told us that the govt., would not even allow him to plan it.
    We asked how much to pay ourselves and when it could be done.
    Answer: 2 weeks, I forget the price but the up shot of cost for the op. , MRI’s , spinal injections etc
    $50 000.
    We put it on the mortgage, Still haven’t really recovered financially.
    We went ahead.
    Success
    Then we asked about the revision surgery.
    $100 000 (we didn’t have it) we had to wait.
    Every 6 months told, NO
    2008 Change of Govt.
    2009 Planning starts
    2010 delayed due to 1st chch earthquake (surgeons required, all hands on deck)
    2011 delayed 2nd Chch earthquake ( surgeons required, all hands on deck)
    2012 Finally 13hr op, 2 years recovery.
    The only difference, there was a change of govt. in 2008 and Tony Ryall was the minister.
    Some time later, I met him at one of Chris Bishop’s election rallies and took my chance to thank him personally.

According to a poll last night the majority of those polled think Winston will do an okay job as acting Prime Minister. In the background of his interview taking place at a housing initiative for the north, we saw Jones and Willie Jackson – essentially the Maori vote lost by National and picked up by Labour on the one had with some converting to NZF. This construct, although not widely applauded on KB, if at all, is the new political ground and sees things being done – something Peters said last night which will continue. Politically, this territory announces the last election’s cutting edge, and the one for the three previous where the MP held that ground at National’s table. The choice of Simon as leader might have been influenced by this, but I wonder if that overlooks the substantial influence of those men above – like them or not. This situation will be critical to watch over the next 2 years with a subtle eye, as National tries to reconcile itself with the public as the party for all New Zealanders – something it appears to have lost with the collapse of the MP. In just 2 years who can appeal to be assisting those at the bottom, or at least appear to be doing so whilst keeping the middle comfortable on innovative progress. Will scare tactics work?

      I’ll be in London for a couple of days next month. When I was there 20 years ago, it had much the feel of Shinagawa (Tokyo) but with many non-English that I just about got “Paris Syndrome.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome

        I thought Westminster Abbey & environs was very interesting. Helps to know a bit of British history.
        If it’s a warm sunny day a stroll along by the river to the Tate Gallery is rather pleasant.
        Don’t expect a good cup of coffee anywhere!

        I was there 15 months ago and it was incredible.
        The only thing I didn’t like was there were no leaves on the trees coz it was late winter.
        The English and French were lovely.
        I fell over on a train and a handsome Frenchman who bore a strong resemblance to President Macron grabbed me and saved me.
        The English were cracking jokes constantly .
        The only weird thing was getting patted down twice at Paris customs…both times by women in Islamic garb.

After 2008, some high profile expenditure was retained because …. voters and entrenched expectations. Working for Families, interest free student loans, income related rents for state housing ….

The current government is also introducing policies that they expect to remain in place with any future government, cementing their socialist legacy for decades to come.

It won’t IMO work so well this time as the policies are hitting the pockets of their own voters rather than just the net taxpayers. Fuel taxes, Kiwibuild for the well off, rent increases, rental vacancies down.

Then there are policies Waitakere Men must shake their heads at – more offenders on the streets, tertiary fees for the well heeled, more cheap social housing, fewer sanctions on beneficiaries.

National is starting to stand up and say they will reverse some policies. Not making a big impact though, so will some be watered down because …. voters, entrenched expectations?

  The problem is that public finance is a mystery to 95 percent of the public. Just look at the left criticising the last government for increasing debt post GFC and Christchurch earthquakes. The alternative would have been austerity and a prolonged domestic recession. Personally I would have liked to have seen a little bit of austerity.

        OK, cha, colorectal cancer is the 2nd most common CANCER cause of death after lung cancer.
        And as fewer people smoke these days, it must be the #1 cause of death by cancer for non-smokers.
        I’m not an extremist….there’s only one other member of my family who is vegequarian like me.
        Colorectal cancer is a horrible disease and I know many lovely people who have died from it.

“US televangelist appeals to followers for $54 million private jet”

An American televangelist is appealing for donations to fund the purchase of a $54 million business jet, saying that if Jesus was still preaching he “wouldn’t be riding a donkey.”

Jesse Duplantis, 68, whose Christian ministry is based in Louisiana, made the appeal for a Dassault Falcon 7X jet in a video for his followers.

Jesse Duplantis Ministries has already gone through three private planes, “burning them up for the Lord Jesus Christ,” he said.

“Now some people believe that preachers shouldn’t have jets,” he said in the video. “I really believe that preachers oughta have and go on every available voice, every available outlet to get this gospel preached to the world.”

Duplantis said he needs the jet “so we can go anywhere in the world one stop” and he recounted a conversation he said he had with God about needing the plane…”

  The large 5 -6k heatpumps have to be on their own circuit and you can’t add another circuit to an older switch board, you have to replace the switch board.

      I have no patience with ‘feminists’ who go along with rape/abuse/harassment. Liars, most of them, completely complicit in the abusive system for their own personal gain. That includes the ‘modern young woman’ legal student on TV a couple of days ago who said she still wouldn’t complain if it happened to her or anyone else because it would be detrimental to her career.
      
      Hypocritical, gutless wonders who live to self-righteously preach to others about all manner of ideology but never walk the talk – just enjoy the blood sport whenever they can get it (like Hayley Sproull? Any blood). Like anything else: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men/women to do nothing.”
      
      And boy, are women good at that, ‘feminists’ being the most guilty. Poor Rosemary seems shocked to discover Greer’s true ‘callous’ nature. But she shouldn’t be – just look at the legal profession. Gender does not determine ‘integrity’ or ‘ethics’ – character does, and decent values – both in very short supply.

        She was a product of her time. A time when:

        Any/every social system ever produced by the human species is distorted by greed and the perennial pursuit of narcissistic self-gratification in the individual – and those who ‘have’ the most tend to control others. As a major reason for the survival of the species has always been the tendency to generalise rules from single instances, life tends to follow “if it works, do it”. The principle of sexual/social conservatism simply ‘works’ better for society and tries to mitigate open abuse by multiple ‘partners’.
        
        Christianity was only one expression in history of a means of codifying the position of women and elevating their status (in principle if not practice), with the additional benefit of reducing a lot of open aggression for ‘mates’ and jealousy/competition for breeding rights amongst males. And a whole lot of other components.
        
        I could ask, is the reason for all the sexual abuse/harassment amongst the legal profession in NZ, especially of women, because they’re all ‘religious conservatives’?
        
        It clearly isn’t. It exists because all the people involved are ‘deeply flawed’ human beings who are motivated by personal gain/greed rather than decent values, ethics, and integrity – and that includes the women.
        
        The only ‘flood’ that’s been ‘unleashed’ is that women have removed their ‘vulnerability’ by preventing their bodies working normally, and killing their inconvenient children, and are now ‘free’ to engage in as much narcissistic self-gratification and greed as men – which they seem to think is ‘progress’.
        
        It isn’t that I find the ongoing accusations of ‘religious conservative sexist oppression’ offensive. It’s that it’s a convenient narrative of one ideology for the pursuit of their own agenda and denial of the biological, psychological, and social realities which underpin the problems.

I think many on here are anecdotally concerned that the Coalition Government has started a full scale move towards a sovereignty partnership with Maori as we seem to hearing about new initiatives every day. Therefore good to read that there are New Zealanders organising a fight back against this.

An interesting display of patriotism in Malaysia.
When the new Government got in they discovered the country had a debt of about 1 trillion ringits (about NZ$300 billion) as well as all the massive corruption cases being exposed.
Many Malaysians started to say they wanted to help with donations, so the government set up a bank account (ie. similar to a “give a little” exercise). Within 24 hours NZ$2 million was in the account and after 48hrs there was NZ$6 million.
Obviously just a “drop in the bucket” towards the financial issues but still fairly extraordinary given the average incomes over there.
In NZ we are very generous when it comes helping others like with the ChCh earthquake or the Pike River disaster but I’m not sure we would donate in a situation like in Malaysia.

  the proportion of children born in New Zealand out of wedlock that year was around 46% (didn’t think it was that low). In Japan (of the few children that were born), only 3% were to unmarried parents.

Like National’s laughable first home buyer subsidy, effectively adding $50,000 or more to the price of all entry level housing. If you give someone an extra 5% towards their deposit then they can borrow an extra $50,000 at a 10% deposit rate. So they can bid $50,000 more for a house.

All these bright, well intentioned bods are all from the same intelligentsia caste that created the house price problem in the first place, not to mention the leaky home fiasco. When will they actually identify the real causes of the house price bubble and stop believing in comfortable platitudes?
