Well, the alt righters have finally done something that was deemed impossible namely get off their collective buts and organises a protest rally.

I suppose the number of one hundred or so was a bit underwhelming but lts say it’s a start
Not sure about the young girl apparently handing out leaflets and the two oldies carrying free Tommy Robinson placards ( the three swell the numbers? )

Yet let’s give one cheer and the sound of one hand clapping?

  I didn’t go to yesterday’s protest, but did go to the other major “free speech” protest in about 2007/8. That was a big one against the fascist Electoral Finance Act, brought in by another left wing politician, while Goff served in her cabinet.
  
  So if those defending freedoms and rights are now “alt right, what does that make Labour?

      How about savagery, un-humane, un-civilised and so on and so forward. After all its the very principals of Human Individuality/ism, of Human Rights, Rule of Law, the Scientific Process and the processes of socratic thought, debate and civil discourse that seperates us from what we used to call savages.
      
      And their ideology is a complete rejection of Human Rights, of modern Science, just as the soviet union rejected the science of agriculture, of selective breeding they believed that everything was a factor of the environment, that all seeds were equal, because to acknowledge the existence of genetic determinism in agriculture would be to acknowledge the inheirt falacy of the underlying concept of Marxism. That concept being that we are all born equal, and that differences in outcome are the result of oppression and not the talents of the indivudal.
      
      And as a result the soviet union had the only major non-wartime famine in europe in the 20th/21st century where some 20 million people starved to death. Mao repeated this in the East killing 45 Million people. Now we have the greens trying to interfere in our agricultural sector, expect output to decline just like it has under every other socialised state ran agricultural sector.
      
      And now their direct descendents ‘the left’ rejects the scientific evidence and understanding of economics which thorougly refutes their collectivist ideology. Yet they destroy country after country. They destroyed venezuela, and they are destroying NZ, our education system, healthcare system and housing system all of which are highly socialised are all absoloute failures.
      
      And when ACT allowed maori people to set-up private non-socialized schools, and those schools were not failing their children, rather than admit they were wrong, abolish the socialised state-controlled schools and replace them with universal charter schools, Labour has shut those schools down! Shut them down because they cant have their socialist school system look bad! Just as they have always campaigned against Vanguard Military school!

    Next I will be called a ‘RACIST’ for opposing that giant presumably taxpayer funded statue to some made-up maori god on bastion point that every Christian, Muslim and Budhist Family will be expected to pay for.

      Infact scientists have discovered as of last month over 1000 new genes which contribute to the determination of the hereditary portion of intelligence, therefore it is believed by scientists that we can explain double digit percentage values of the herediatry portion of intelligence through genetics, which we can test for.

      Although I also heard them talking about polls they conducted to determine the validity of theories of man made global warming. I think that it should go without saying that at one point in time 84% of people thought the world was flat, we wouldn’t use that as evidence for the world being flat, just as we wouldn’t use it as evidence for anything else. We also wouldn’t poll people on how much fuel to put in a space ship for a manned mission to the moon… Nor would we take a poll on whether someone should be burnt as a witch or ‘climate science denier’… That is not how science is conducted. Science is not a popularity contest. You need evidence!!
      
      And Science is not racist. The lieing press however is a bunch of uneducated, anti-science, anti-human rights biggots. The guy on NTZB was saying he supported free speech, but ‘there has to be limits if I really don’t like something, I am not saying they shouldn’t be able to speak, just that they should have to speak in an empty paddock’…

  Still better than the Auckland Peace Action group who have organized demonstrations at Devonport Naval Base every weekend since 27 June to protest NZs involvement in RIMPAC.
  
  There are protests planned for 30 June, 7 July and 14 July, as well as next weekend.

Well I had my mandatory Maori face to face interview last week with a person from Stats Department. I was randomly selected based on the census.

It took about an hour, dozens of questions, some very detailed and intrusive and I thought overall biased towards collecting only some data.

Examples – a lot of specific cultural and language questions, several about kapa haka involvement, employment, voluntary work, happiness / wellbeing ratings, aspects of living situations, family related questions, rating of professions – mainly police, justice, media.

Really have to wonder why the department is collecting all this information, and hard to believe it is unconnected with lobbying for more taxpayer funding for Maori.

I was offered, and accepted, a copy of the overall findings when available.

  artemesia, I was selected after the previous census to complete that survey, although I’m not Maori, to collect info on the views of NZ’ers. I recently received a follow-up questionnaire (it’s been a few years) from the School of Psychology at Auckland Uni with pages of questions. It went in the bin as I wasn’t inclined to give this Col any more personal information. ?

      I think so. I am atypical Maori now (via bootstraps) but know my family history. I will be an extreme outlier on some of the questions. Might redress a tiny bit of balance.
      
      An interesting omission was level of and attitudes to education. Suggest that might be more important than kapa haka participation but would it fit the narrative?

    It’s a similar to making a statement like “xy% of employees have been sexually harassed in the workplace”. However the data is collected only from high female employers, knowing the average man would experience less. This increases the xy% to the question. The True figure is less.

  I had a similar detailed face-to-face interview with a Stats Dept chap. (Illegal to not take part).
  
  Apart from all the well-being /happiness crap and questions on where I identified on the LGBTXYZ scale, the emphasis seemed to be on dry housing.
  
  So at the end of the interview, the chap asked would I be willing for our house to undergo an inspection by a Building/Energy expert…. to which I readily assented.
  That was months ago. We might be frozen to death or covered in mould spores before some BRANZ maven ventures up here.

Lobbied for by academics looking forward to lots of lovely government funding for years to come. And by the usual suspects who want better private rental quality at cheaper rent.
    
    It is time for there to be Stats Dept interviews of residential property investors – the first two questions to be –
    
    1. Are you considering exiting the sector because of all the crapping on landlords?
    2. Are you at all likely to be building new rentals or buying off the plans, or otherwise increasing your rental portfolio.

      I’ve spent much of my working life as a NZ Public Servant….I have no problem cooperating with Gvt Surveys…. (other folks might).
      
      This is the precise wording that accompanied the letter sent to the residents of…(my address):
      
      “Your household has been selected to be interviewed for the New Zealand General Social Survey
      .
      .
      Your information is so important that, just like with our census, everyone must take part in our surveys.
      
      .
      Yours sincerely
      Government Statistician.”
      
      The chap did write down some of my complaints about the Question formats.
      
      The ones about the environment were simplistic and showed that the designer of the questions had little understanding of the NZ environment or ecological processes.

    About the BRANZ or similar inspection. I don’t doubt Stats Dept itself is correctly random, but is that necessarily the case for follow ups? Do BRANZ or academics take the data and select a random subset to follow up? I’m sure they say they do but let’s face it we have seen plenty of GIGO from academics with no bias or fabrication at all.   Subscriptions to the Dimpost are going up by about $80 per year while the “content” becomes ever more laughable. They continue to assert their circulation is 98,000 when the latest figures I have seen indicate it is 47,000. Which all suggests they are in a state of accelerating collapse. It will be no great loss when they do go down the plughole, a day for celebration in fact.

      I have just looked at the NZ Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC). The Dimpost’s circulation in fact appears to be under 46,000 as at 31 March this year, a slump of more than 10% over the preceding year. I wonder if they ever ask themselves “why?”

        If they asked the question of those leaving in droves they might get some useful -albeit unprintable- answers.

    At the other end of the scale the Herald offered me a sub (all seven papers) home delivered for $7 a week after completing a five week free subscription offered in conjunction with the AA. After a family discussion we flagged it because none of us had given the Herald more than a cursory glance during the free trial.
    
    It seems the Herald can’t give it away currently which must be a major concern for advertisers.

Ye Gods! Now the Maori want a colossal status of some Maori legendary figure put up on Bastion Point – bigger than the statue of liberty, they claim, in order to make a feature of Auckland Harbour. And here I was thinking Rangitoto did that. Our moronic mayor is going to give them $1m OF OUR MONEY towards it. I’m going to go all lefty here and state that I am outraged.

Did anyone hear Mary McGee being interviewed on Red Radio yesterday….in a nutshell to her family violence is a male gender problem….
During the interview she finally conceded that the problem is in the main with low socio economic families, living on benefits etc. Why doesn’t she say where the problem really is?

Until this woman and others who claim to be concerned with family violence address the groups which perpetrate the violence on their families, they are never going to solve the problem.
We need to be real here, as a country of 4.5mill, NZ’s family violence statistics are appalling, but saying it is a “male problem” is not focusing on those minority of men who are causing the issues.

This is because Mary McGee and the like treat it is a sensitive racial issue, and say we must let whanau, and iwi resolve it. Meanwhile she then attacks all men and says it is a gender issue…To which I say b******t.

It is:

A social issue, not helped by the benefits handouts of the last 45 years; and

It is predominantly a male issue within low socio-economic groups of specific racial groups.

Deal with the groups and the issues, instead of mouthing off on National Radio and a start on reducing the issue will occur.

    Coasters these days mostly live on welfare or their oldies on the pension. The timber industry was the first to be crippled by govt policy years ago then the mining industry which is almost dead and soon dairy farming will be in the COL’s gunsights. They’ve got a bit of tourism but in terms of employment that industry tends towards being seasonal and mostly low paid. On the plus side the coast has cornered the market in nutjob religious cults who enjoy tax exemption status and exploiting state welfare by putting all their women on WINZ benefits.

    I went to some effort to analyse what Goff said was supposedly racist, i.e. Molyneux’s videos on IQ. He talked to academics and never claimed white supremacy at all: rather the opposite, claiming that Caucasians are very much in the middle of the IQ averages.
    
    Now, whether the data are correct and whether genes or environment can be blamed for the differences and whether it even really matters can all be considered.
    
    So was it something specific about Molyneux’s thoughts about IQ you disagree with? Or something else?
    
    Or are you just plunging into the ‘I disagree’ pool because you’re worried about guilt by association, without having really listened to Southern and Molyneux?

On the subject of land seizures.

In 1962 the Government seized my grandmothers property at 41 Fleet St Eden Terrace. They did so under the Public Works Act supposedly for a motorway.
They paid her less than the then government valuation on the grounds that the value had decreased because she couldnt sell the land to anyone else.

Several years later the motorway as built some considerable distance from her property. My famil then found out there had never been any intention to build the motorway over or near her property the seizure was a land grab to rezone sell and use the profits to offset the motorway costs.

Several years later the government sold the land for commercial development the Council having kindly rezoned the property.

So much of no land seizures in NZ.

  The then Auckland Harbour Board back in the 50s took a lot of Te Atatu harbour edge land for a proposed new port .
  never happened of course , but the land remained empty until AHB was abolished. Original owners took the new owner Waitakere City to court to claim it back, for dodgy reasons they failed. You should look it up

  I’ve been using these for years to store coal. I get a truckload of coal delivered and then put 2 shovels full into these bags and stack them outside the house. Keeps the coal dry (ish) and provides just the right amount to chuck into the wetback ! Also keeps storage of coal cleaner as you only handle it the first time, thereafter parcels are clean and so is the house !

I can only presume that this is the SpinOff’s attempt at “balance” – they really have no fucking idea.

    You don’t have to worry about the relationship between RNZ and the SpinOff mudding the waters.
    
    You only have to listen to RNZ itself to realise any semblance of independence and integrity was flushed away last year.
    
    For instance on Friday, some of us debated the item on Morning Report (which was only an intro piece for the Focus on Politics broadcast at 6.45pm that evening) on the government’s policy on emissions reduction through converting NZ’s vehicle fleet to electric vehicles. Most of us realised the piece at 7.40am on Friday was not giving the whole story.
    
    Well the Focus on Politics item (15minutes long) was just an appalling propaganda piece for the CoL. What it did highlight was how the CoL have not thought through the issues and how the Greens want all Kiwis to live in cities and ride public transport. As for the rest of the country, they don’t care.

  @RF remember it was Lenin who said “a lie repeated enough will become the truth” which is why it has been relentlessly repeated as the answer to so many questions directed at the COL. For the majority it can never evolve into the truth and is as false today as the first time it was uttered. The problems of outrages wage claims made by the public sector are as a direct result of this lie firstly and secondly because of Labour raising expectations so high to counter the falsity they have been preaching. It stems from the union slogan prominently displayed in any workplaces where the stronger union still retain a foothold. “A you getting your fair share?” Naturally it has a negative result on the sheeple who survive by just doing enough to while never considering if they are in fact “doing their fair share?”
  As we have seen nurses are now considered qualified via a theoretical path and not as before or even to the same degree of skill set to get a degree. Far too much learning time is wasted on so called “cultural” content as one example quoted by a trainee. We were given one native word to study for 2 hours in the library and then write an essay on. Bet that will help with somebodies healing. Raising the obvious question if they are in fact they are adequately rewarded for the reduced levels of competence they now achieve? Note the equal sized stumbling block is “too much” work so they argue to have even more doing less at even higher pay rates.
  Labour are simply having to suck this up after creating such a massive problem while we watch them try desperately to set a level of increase to stop this wage snowball do it’s logical thing. The best is yet to come.

      By the time I got there in the early 70s, it had morphed into a decent young university with its Vet school, Food technology, Ag & Hort, and Extra-Mural Departments , along with the usual Science & Arts Depts.
      
      But P.N. is a ghastly place and I decamped to the big city for Post-grad study.
      
      Massey expanded in the 1990s into its Auckland & Wellington campuses. I think they hold most of the Arts and soft “science” folks nowadays.

    I’m no lover of bureaucracy, but unpasteurised milk can be pretty devastating for young people and folk with compromised immune systems.
    
    For adults you could say “let consumer beware”, but then taxpayers would pick up the bill through the State health system.
    
    Milk pasteurisation is like chlorination of water when it comes to the trade off between individual rights on one hand, and public safety and health costs on the other hand. Not on the scale of freedom-restricting laws such as making it illegal to shout “fire!” in a movie theatre, but a similar principle.

    I genuinely admire our hard-working farmers getting up at all hours of the night to tend to their moocows.
    I stayed on a farm once as a kid and will never forget how kind the family were.

    We just had a beefy shot by the home kill guys.
    Yummy.
    The farm I’m on has 2 large and one smaller blocks of native forests. Cave Weta, Pigeons, Morpork, Kauri, large native eels, etc etc. we also have occasional wild deer, pigs, goats, good populations of peacocks, turkeys, hares, rabbits, pheasants, ducks, etc etc.
    We also have possums that are controlled to lowish numbers using .22 lead disprin and plucked of thier fur while still warm. It’s only pocket money really but collectively us farmers earn more just doing that than any economic gains of vegetarianism.
    So despite the diary farm doing its thing many more things can be taking place on a piece of land. Far more enviromentaly and ecosystem friendly than portrayed. Far more than in a concrete jungle.

    A length of rope so the body can be strung up to a lamp post for a couple of days should do the trick. A thick coating of pepper will keep the flies away.

      ☝ Pro Tip: If you want to add dolphin you need to get a little one that is milk fed.
      
      They are not that hard to catch. You just run the prop over the mother a couple of times and then gaff the little one when it comes up to grab it’s last breath.

But in my own case we had two girls in eleven months. The wife had a bad time on the high oestrogen pills of the time & after our son was born a few years later I decided to have the “snip”. Even getting the okay from the GP wasn’t straight forward but in the end the cut was made.

I never bothered much about who knew but the comments afterwards were interesting. According to some fuckwits I’d handed in my man card since I was now shooting blanks.

If anything our sex life was better but I wonder if the paranoia in Africa that we read about still persists in NZ’s dickhead classes.

Government and council have agreed that denser inner city housing is vital to making a success of the earthquake rebuild. Yet despite inking a deal with Fletcher to build nearly 1000 homes back in 2015, the first 20 properties won’t be finished until late this year.

The buyers just don’t seem to be there for them. And so the East Frame development has been uphill all the way.

A blow for Americans who want tougher control on gun ownership.

It’s a legal victory for Cody Wilson, the American right-wing anarchist who has promoted home 3D-printed basic pistols, and has marketed a basic CNC machine tool, the $US1675 Ghost Gunner, which facilitates home manufacture of assault rifles.

The New York Times reports that Wilson has won a court action allowing him to distribute manuals for 3D printing firearms.

He sued the American Government in 2015 after the State Department ordered him to take the manuals off the internet because they violated export laws. A settlement means that his manuals are now free to be distributed in any form.

Meanwhile, Wilson has upgraded the Ghost Gunner. It reportedly now enables home made Glock- compatible pistols, as well as the critical component for home-made assault rifles.

3D printing and the Internet are going to make firearms control harder for authorities in many Western countries.
