  The comments are fascinating in how the Labour crowd are venomous toward Bridges. Personally I still don’t think he has the temperament to forcefully highlight the CoL weekly failures. The other school of thought is that he should just let the CoL destroy itself in the eyes of the voters. The one positive thing is that seeking out those who admit to voting for the CoL is becoming more difficult.

      It’s too early in the electoral cycle for National to be rolling out policy. And whilst Bridges hasn’t landed many hits on Ardern and Peters, others on the front bench have belted the crap out of their ministerial opponents.
      
      Bridges is playing the long game, and that’s what the trip around the country was about. The fact that Labour banged on this week about Bridges being about to be replaced suggests to me that Bridges’ numbers are trending upwards on Labour’s internal polling.
      
      This weekend’s National Party Conference is important for Bridges, and they’ve got it off to a good start, with a choir from South Auckland Middle School (one of those hated charter schools) singing the National Anthem. Suck on that Chippie!

      Fair comment shariaboy, but the main driver behind dairy robberies is/was turia and her dirty cronies with their attack on smokers. National really did nothing to stem the violence, they could have implemented a minimum 10 year sentencing for that particular offence, regardless of age, but didn’t.     I logged a complaint with them, like I did with stuff.co.nz. And to Stuff’s credit the number of “far right” references went down from 66,000 to less than 5,000 after I did that. Will be interesting to see how TVNZ responds.
    
    It seems that journalism and media is a profession that attracts more leftists, and unlike the media of old that could keep their political leaning seperate from their reporting, today’s graduates just aren’t intelligent enough to report without using subjective and bias words. I can see why too, I recall doing a communications paper at university and bias was only taught in the terms of gender bias eg, using “gender neutral” nouns, so Mankind was bad and humankind (or “people kind” if you are a retarded Canadian) was good; rather than using objective terms.

    I think you may have missed my point. My issue wasn’t that the event was cancelled, it was that the police wouldn’t say why.
    How about giving an example of something that the police think is serious enough to cancel a school ball, but must be kept secret, giving only some vague reason why it needed to be cancelled. The newshub article also tells us that students weren’t to talk about it either. Why on earth not?
    It can’t be a bomb threat because we get told about them (e.g. the event at Te Papa that was mentioned in the article). What about somebody with a gun? Wouldn’t you like to know if somebody with a gun was making threats?
    If they were trying not to tip somebody off, I think they gave the game away when they cancelled the event.

Looks like Trump is going to do away with Obama regulations that mandated car makers must make sure their cars do an average of 50 miles per gallon by 2025. And how would car manufacturers have accomplished that anyway? By making cars lighter, which causes more accidents and death.

    Lighter cars aren’t inherently less safe. The new Suzuki Swift for example is even lighter than the previous two models despite being bigger, and has an excellent safety rating. Whereas some heavy modern cars, like the Ford Mustang, have dreadful crash ratings.
    
    Most manufacturers (aside from Suzuki and Mazda, who are embracing lightness) are actually just putting in much smaller capacity turbo petrol engines to achieve efficiency, as well as adopting the horrible (if you enjoy driving) CVT transmission.

    Very true, any perceived benefits of greater power train efficiency are quickly lost to heavier, taller and bulkier bodies as automakers fill buyer demand for SUVs. The 50mpg target just won’t be met unless Americans change their buying habits

The contrast is striking. In central Christchurch, Fletcher Living is taking forever to get going on its East Frame townhouse and apartment block development.

Government and council have agreed that denser inner city housing is vital to making a success of the earthquake rebuild. Yet despite inking a deal with Fletcher to build nearly 1000 homes back in 2015, the first 20 properties won’t be finished until late this year.

The buyers just don’t seem to be there for them. And so the East Frame development has been uphill all the way.

However, take the road half an hour out of town to Lincoln and the story is the opposite. This once sleepy village has exploded with subdivisions. Its residential footprint is now 10 times what it was 20 years ago.

Ive been thinking to quote Richard Prebble. With all the working parties working groups etc the COL have set up at least it has prevented even more carnage like destroying the oil and gas industry.

However I shudder to think what will happen when all these groups report back with policies that will send the economy into free fall. inflation thru the roof and require massive tax/levy hikes to pay for them.

Simon et al have really got to be ready to counter each and every new policy pointing out in graphic detail the harm it will do to the COL voters.

Like the new domestic violence ( holiday) law that will see women not being employed least they disrupt the business when hubby/boyfriend decided to use them as a punching bag.

Small business owner wont take that risk on to potential cause fiscal harm to their business. Sel reservation always trumps “doing the public good”

  It is dangerous to look at it policy by policy, sector by sector. The real damage wil occur through cross-sector effects where policies that have been created in isolation clash and the effects will multiply to catastrophic proportions.
  The COL has no-one with the intellect or skill to see the big picture so they will pick away at it bit by bit and eventually the whole house of cards will crash. Economies are both resilient (to some policy changes) and fragile (to others) and my concern is that they are targeting some of the more finely balanced aspects of the NZ economy. Particularly energy, taxation exchange rate influencers and land based industries.

Very embarrassingly for the DNC, more proof has emerged to establish beyond doubt that Obama needs to be impeached for standing for the US presidency when he wasn’t eligible. I am not holding my breath waiting for the utterly trustworthy FBI to do their job – I’m sure they’ll find a reason why this sort of evidence isn’t substantial enough to lock-up a crook.

I mean this is only ex-President Obama, making a public statement that he visited Kenya three years ago “as the first sitting US President to come from Kenya”.

  A jury in South Bend, Indiana has found that fraud put President Obama and Hillary Clinton on the presidential primary ballot in Indiana in the 2008 election. Two Democratic political operatives were convicted Thursday night in the illegal scheme after only three hours of deliberations. They were found guilty on all counts.
  
  Prosecutors say that in President Obama’s case, nine of the petition pages were apparently forged. Each petition contains up to 10 names, making a possible total of 90 names, which, if faked, could have brought the Obama total below the legal limit required to qualify. Prosecutors say 13 Clinton petitions were apparently forged, meaning up to 130 possibly fake signatures. Even if 130 signatures had been challenged, it would have still left Mrs. Clinton with enough signatures to meet the 500 person threshold.
  
  Levco said a total of “100 to 200” signatures had been forged on Obama’s and Clinton’s petitions.
  
  Numerous voters told Fox News that they never signed the petitions.
  
  “That’s not my signature,” Charity Rorie, a mother of four, told us when we showed her the Obama petition with her name and signature. She was stunned, saying that it “absolutely” was a fake.
  
  Charity told Fox News that her husband’s entry was also a forgery, and that they have never been contacted by investigators or any authorities looking into the scandal.
  
  “It’s scary, it’s shocking. It definitely is illegal,” she told us.

Ministers’ offices live and die by their Minister’s diary – they are complicated things where the Minister’s existence is tidily sliced up into half hour slots from 7am to 10pm filled with on average 10-20 separate meetings, events, briefings every single day.

As usual the barking mad hypocrites on the Left are relying upon telling the biggest and fattest of lies. Again and again – the follow the advice of the great grand-daddy of all SJW liars – Goebbels when he noted the the bigger and more outrageous the lie, the less likely anyone will believe you have the audacity to tell it.

It appears this would give huge powers to the UN over immigration and in effect remove sovereignty .

    I am not arguing for or against ethnic replacement, only that the original population should have been informed of the effects of the government’s change in immigration policing to draw immigrants from totally new regions (and cultures). If the original population were happy with the idea of ethnic transformations of many of their suburbs, then by all means, bring it on.
    
    One could make the argument that a new hard-working, insular, self-funding, self-helping, highly competitive ethnic group will be “good for the country” but what to do when it out-competes the local population?
    
    It’s a conundrum. Competition is good, but it’s not much fun when you are on the losing side and you refuse to compete back.

Good news out of National’s conference whatever.

Bridges’ problem isn’t himself, I am growing to like him. His problem is the fact that National Party supporters like myself support the party reluctantly, not enthusiastically.

It’s a hell of a challenge for him because Nat supporters who don’t know or care to understand the machinations and mystery of how it all works at local and international levels, just wanted their frigging tax cuts and possibly an end to the Maori gravy train and a few other small, standard, Right Wing causes.

I live in a high income area where a lot of people support the Nats, own businesses etc, they think National did well with the economy but failed to address the social wreckage that gets worse incrementally year on year.

        Saw an interesting piece by late-great Hitchens, saying that while evidence for historicality of Jesus is almost zero, the fact that they fabricated the story of the Nativity (embellished with a whole lot of details about a census that are proven lies) to make him fit into Jewish messiah prophecy (need to be of house of David = from Bethlehem, a bit of a problem if you are not, and there is no record of Nazareth even existing at supposed time of Jesus’s birth) makes it somewhat more likely that there was actually a real Jesus who’s backstory wasn’t quite what was needed to get Jewish bums on pews.

This old bloke goes into an old folks’ home because he keeps falling over and his son can’t keep his eye on him all the time.

Winston starting to panic and send mixed messages to his old age followers by saying the Three Strikes Law doesn’t work anymore and then follow that up by trying to belittle David Garrett three criminal charges with the establishment. Peters is now changing policy like he changes his underpants and must have people wondering whether bad poll result are getting in the way of his judgement with some of his latest press releases. Simon Bridges has finally got into the act with some good smart comments on Winston at the National Party Conference and the coming week should be interesting with National about to push Peters to the limit.

  Bonus: That will get Winston wound up and even more toxic!

  This matches statements by NZ First’s justice spokesman.
  
  If Peters changes direction on Little’s campaign to end Three Strikes, NZ First is dead, and let’s hope it takes the coalition with it to the political grave.
  
  But maybe it’s a chance for National to win a majority on its own on a law-and-order stand unique among choices for the voter.

Of course its working.
Winston says there are 116 on their second strike.
I cant wait till our weak judges give some of these guys their third strike.
Then the policy will really hit home.
And I don’t want those 116 thugs walking around our streets like time bombs

The Three strikes law would work even better if judges would not keep finding ways to use the “Manifestly unfair clause”

If National get back in I’d like them to remove that clause.
