– nor was she involved in a committee that she established not keeping minutes because they could be OIA’d – another misconstruction of the facts –

David Clark didn’t try to bribe a DHB Chairman, he was just being nice offering him alternate employment – and quickly if he kept his mouth shut –

David Clark also didn’t really go on an overseas holiday the day before the nurses strike began, he just had to attend to a “secret mission” that coincidentally included the wife and kids –

Ron Mark didn’t misuse military aircraft, they just happened to be misguidedly passing his back porch –

Twitford didn’t promise us 100,000 new homes – then have to re-define the term “year” – just another unfortunate miscalculation –

Likewise, Twitford was just suffering brain fade when he telephoned his staff from an aircraft, then stood and moved around the aircraft whilst it was taxi-ing – the witness just misunderstood what he saw –

Shame Jones didn’t really promise 100,000,000 trees per year, this was an unfortunate misassessment, and in any case he couldn’t control the Autumn from hell –

Paul Eagle didn’t attempt to bribe his local panel beater into committing insurance fraud – the poor panel beater unfortunately suffers from mistaken belief syndrome –

This agglomeration of misfits, misunderstandings, false impressions, misreadings, miscalculations, mistaken beliefs, slips of the tongue, misinterpretations, fuck ups, errors and mix-ups is beginning to get somewhat tedious. The time has come for one or two heads to roll !

  Thrown in the mix was Winston Peters seemingly siding with the Russians over Salisbury and election rigging. Siding with the Russians against the EU at a time when the NZ Government was was engaged in important trade dialogue with the EU. Cindy saying it was just Winston’s “personal views”. Shane’s “personal view” on Fonterra and Air NZ. Grant Robertson attending a Labour Fundraiser and giving a report on the budget in and he was there in a “personal” capacity.
  
  Let us not forget Kelvin Davis “Why wasn’t I told about prison numbers forecasts”.

Interesting to read about Murri woman assaulting disabled lady after disagreement over disabled parking place in Pamerston North.
This irks me, as it is noticeable in many areas PI, Maori, and rug pilots totally disregard these restricted areas.
On Saturday we noticed a obese Maori male leaning against a people mover puffing on his cigarette. When someone pointed to the sign he told them, “Get stuffed, our land, not yours, and I park where I like”.

    In the USA there are large fines and court appearances to explain yourself to the judge if you park in disabled parking.
    
    In Britain they are now issuing disabled parking permits to parents who have children with hidden disabilities such as autism. I thought that’s what the mother and child parks were for?

      Conversely we are good friends with a women who has a reconstructed spine. Smashed by one of the fine young people at Weymouth. She was a strong woman but had her back broken in several places.
      She is not in a wheelchair now but can only walk short distances even years later.
      She regularly receives abuse from FUCKWITS who have it in their tiny brain that she shouldn’t use a mobility space, even though she has a card.

And the cause of the lack of patronage- the policies of the Christchurch City Council. Well done Lianne Dalziel, Vicky Buck and the rest of the traffic planning nutters responsible for the irresponsible CBD catastrophe. CBD businesses are reaping the results of the foolishness you have sown.

      If you have five in your household, all voting age, they get a vote. If I have five properties, I get one vote. Call that a fair deal, when I am the one wearing all sorts of associated costs. If you do not pay specific rates you should be paying a poll tax. If this is the case time for a separate component in rentals covering outgoings as in commercial rentals.

Winston Peters: Yeah well I lost the argument because I didn’t get enough votes because people like you said it wouldn’t work. Now you say it will.

It was one of Winston’s most prominent ‘bottom lines’, but he isn’t even bothering to try to hold Labour to their immigration policy.

  Peters is a known liar. After all, he’s the only MP in Parliament to have been investigated by the Privileges Committee and censured by his peers for knowingly filing a false pecuniary interest return.

The root cause of the housing affordability crisis is local government losing control of costs … and the ability to meet its infrastructure responsibilities and cope with normal growth.

The forced 1989 local government amalgamations … followed by the truly idiotic recent Auckland Councils amalgamations, set the stage for massive ‘institutional failure’.

The public is acutely aware of the bureaucratic basket cases of the Auckland and Christchurch Councils … and in recent times rejected the (Anti) Local Government Commissions proposals for the amalgamation of Wellington, Hawkes Bay and Northland Councils.

I understand on a population basis, the United States has as many units of local government as New Zealand did pre – 1989.

Local Governments reputation in New Zealand is truly dreadful … as its own polling illustrates (interestingly … no media reporting of these surveys in recent years ! … wonder why ? ).

So Barry Soper (journalist) is claiming that Simon Bridges is the ‘invisible’ man.
This says more about the attitude of journalists than about Simon.
What does Barry think that Simon should do to become more ‘visible’ to Barry’s journalist mates. Drive a tractor up the steps of Parliament, streak down Lambton Quay, needle Winnie about his habits etc?
Perhaps Simon needs a new member to his family and be the principal caregiver including having the bub in the Chamber. If that does not give the media something to write about – what will?

The only way Soper’s claim can be true, is if he and others in the press are admitting to ignoring him. He is the Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition.
If he is ‘invisible’ theonly logical reason for it can be that the press is refusing to make him visible.
For Soper to then blame the victim is a risible admissin of his own bias.

UK author Kim Goodwin posts a chart about mansplaining on Twitter.

Now I have no problem with her posting the chart, it’s actually not too bad.

But looking at her Twitter feed, someone commented,

Why make this a gendered issue? What you are basically defining here is condescending behaviour that can happen in any human interaction, regardless of gender. I take offence at the sexist implication that this is a male oriented behaviour.

To which Kim replied:

It’s gendered because the behavior is predominantly gendered. You might also notice I don’t say “all men” anywhere…the chart just asks if you ARE mansplaining. And by the way, men are by definition not targets of sexism.

Sorry? Has the definition of “sexism” changed and nobody told me?

Just to make sure, I checked the online Oxford dictionary (would like to check my 30 year old Collins dictionary but it’s at home), which defines sexism thus:

Prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.
‘sexism in language is an offensive reminder of the way the culture sees women’

So, by definition, men CAN be targets of sexism. It may “typically” be against women, but that is NOT the same as saying women are “exclusively” targets of sexism.

I don’t mind people posting charts about so-called “mansplaining”, or voicing their opinions or feelings … but when they start stating something AS FACT OR DEFINITION that is actually demonstrably false, then I get pissed off. It’s a failing of mine, I admit …

Bryce Edwards has absolutely skewered the Green Party over their u-turn in agreeing to support the Peters/Little Waka-Jumping Bill (emphasis mine):

The Greens have never been willing to front up over how they were going to deal with this contentious bill. First, when the coalition was formed, we were told by co-leader James Shaw that his party wouldn’t vote for any policies that they disagreed with. The Greens later changed this to say that they would support the waka-jumping bill through the first stages of the legislation, but wouldn’t guarantee that they would vote for it in the end.

Then last week the party finally revealed that they would indeed vote for the legislation, even though they still opposed it. They justified this capitulation with the notion that their hands were tied by the coalition agreement that they signed up to with the Labour Party – especially the part in which they promised to deal in “good faith” with Labour to fulfil coalition agreements with New Zealand First.

It turns out that the Greens have always known that there is nothing in the coalition agreement they signed with Labour that obliges them to vote for the waka-jumping bill. A leaked Green Party caucus document from January, titled “Advice to caucus – Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill”, reports on official advice informing the Greens that there is nothing in their coalition agreement that binds them to provide support.

This is what the document says about the “good faith” provision in their agreement with Labour: “Advice from the Cabinet Office is that firstly this is a political statement around how we’re endeavouring to work with the Government. It commits us to work through areas of concern in good faith, but does not bind us to support everything set out in the Labour/New Zealand First coalition agreement”.

The fact that the Greens have tried to tell the public the opposite therefore raises some big questions about why they’ve mislead the public on this, and what the real reasons are for their U-turn on the bill.

There are two main possible explanations: weakness or opportunism. In the “weakness” explanation, the Greens have acted like doormats – the leader of New Zealand First has simply demanded that the Greens vote for the bill, or there will be some sort of very negative consequence (perhaps even threatening to walk away from the coalition Government). In this scenario, the Greens have meekly rolled over and given away their principles easily.

Kudos to Edwards, whose views I seldom agree with. He has the honesty to tell this one like it is though, and that’s refreshing.

When the Bill comes back to the House for its second reading debate tomorrow, the Greens should hang their heads in shame. Such is their determination to stay on the right side of Peters, they have completely and utterly sold out on their principles.

  FWIW, knowing how much some people on here would love to “shut me up”, I’m a big believer in freedom of speech but it just doesn’t work in a society that doesn’t have any moral framework where it’s become a literal religious mantra that “everything is equal”.
  
  Thinking about it further, the one form of speech I would make an exception for however and proscribe by law for, is the banning of the promotion of homosexuality and transgenderism to children.
  
  I support this on the basis that children should be protected from indecency to a greater extent than adults, because it represents a form of grooming, and because homosexuality/sodomy is a civilisation destroying poison. This ban would include all positive depictions of homosexuality in the media, any teaching in schools other than to identify the health and disease risks, gay pride parades etc.
  
  Although I would hope that the general citizenry would largely enforce this standard for themselves as they do in Russia but the pushers of the such are doing there darndest to normalise their perversions.

What is the best way for police to “keep the peace”? (This depends on whether you mean in the short term or the long term.)

In the short term, it is far easier for the police to remove a non-aggressive and rational element from within an aggressive and irrational environment.

Is this the best approach? If the aggressive and irrational environment remains at a constant size in a fixed location, then this strategy will work. However, it will tend to empower the aggressive element.

  I must say I was very impressed with Lauren Southern who is an articulate young woman with very sound ideas actually about multiculturalism and the threat to the West of Islam.
  
  To sum up she was not allowed to walk towards the mosque in Sydney. The police made up the rules on the spot and would not let her walk along the pavement, talk and be filmed.
  
  She quite rightly says that sharia law now rules in this part of Sydney. Because she is unable to walk or film or talk in this certain neighbourhood, because it will upset the Muslims.
  
  Think about that for a moment. The police now in Australia are barring people from criticising Islam or even walking past the mosque because they are afraid it will cause Muslim upset and probably violence.
  
  Think about freedom of speech. Think about freedom of religion. Think about the right to go where you like in Sydney. All those things are under threat because of a virulent minority that hates Western civilisation and will not assimilate.
  
  So why the heck would we bring them here?

  Aha, I always hear this sort of crap on the radio, ‘we, we, us, ours’ it is as if the left leaning political activists that campaign every day for Labour on their fake news shows can’t distinguish between themselves, the people, and the government.
  
  They are always bemoaning some great new crises or ‘controversy’ which no one ever heard of before they mentioned it and no one ever hears of after they stop mentioning it, and every single time it is something that requires huge government intervention!
  
  They have been going on lately about a lot of ‘shortages’ sorry folks you don’t have shortages under the free market, prices adjust accordingly to maintain equilibrium. It is only when you have massive state intervention, price fixing and stuff can you have shortages.
  
  For instance if education was marketized pay would be set on supply and demand and the education ‘budget’ based not on some arbitrary figure from the ministry of finance but on what the level of demand is. If they had trouble finding teachers pay would go up.
  
  But if they are having trouble finding teachers which I doubt, then I think the solution is genuinely simple and requires no budget increase, firstly drop requirements for teacher certification (half of all teachers in UK private schools are uncertified) for skilled professionals who want to become teachers. Secondly axe the whole ‘everyone gets paid based on number of years working as a teacher bs and pay based on performance’ thirdly axe the PC BS, no serious person is going to put up with that…
  
  Do those 3 things and the supply of teachers will hugely increase. Teachers get paid a fairly mediocre wage by professional standards, but they aren’t professionals and their hourly rates for the few hours they work are really high. I think a large number of people who either don’t like the stress or who basically want to retire would jump ships. It is a pretty crazy job.

Great. NZ has made the Telegraph thanks to some ‘woke’ 7 year old kid complaining that “linemen” worker signs are sexist.

A letter from a seven-year-old girl in New Zealand to the transport authority about its “unfair” road signs has prompted the agency to change the wording of the nation’s signage from “Linemen” to “Line Crew”.

During a visit to her grandparents in the city of Eastbourne, Zoe Carew was angered by the signs, which indicate that people are working on local power lines.

In a letter to Fergus Gammie, the chief executive of the New Zealand Transport Agency, the seven-year-old wrote: “Why does the sign say ‘Linemen’ when the people working on the lines may be men or women? I think this sign is wrong and unfair. Do you agree?”

The letter continued: “I don’t really want to be a line-worker when I grow up because there are so many more exciting things I would like to do, but some girls might want to learn to be linewomen. Can you please change the sign to say ‘Line-workers’ instead, or something else correct and fair like that.”

Mr Gammie responded, saying that he accepted the criticism and that the agency would change its signs. He said the wording would be changed to “Line crew” rather than “Line-workers” because this would not require adjusting the size of the signs.

“I commend you for your suggestion and for taking action where you think something unfair should be fixed. Well done,” he wrote.

  Well you couldn’t call them linewomen, women if they bother to work at all work in all the safe, easy professions, mostly human orientated/facing that pay slightly less well but are rather quiet easy. Lots of talking, think nurse, teacher, receptionist, hr, call centre.

  By definition a women Doesn’t have the physical strength to drag a 80kg man out of a burning building and so can only be a firemen from corruption or sexism. But hey we hire females in the police force now, we have men that aren’t much better…

    The same way you can be too black for prison, a black person was let go recently because the police didn’t have the required paperwork to satisfy the judge or should I say career activists in charge of the law that the person who was carrying drugs was not stopped because of his skin colour.
    
    Apparently that would have been unlawfully gathered evidence and been inadmissible in court, the problem is that this creates an absurd precident where you now need to somehow prove every black person being breath tested for instance is not being breath tested because of his skin colour.
    
    Not being black I don’t think I could get out of jail, pass get go and collect discrimination lawsuit payments by suggesting that it is because I am white. Somehow I think a real judge would first of all laugh at me, then secondly require I prove my allegations.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 4.5 percent in the June 2018 quarter, up from 4.4 percent last quarter, Stats NZ said today.

“The slight rise in the unemployment rate follows five consecutive falls, from 5.3 percent in the December 2016 quarter to last quarter’s 4.4 percent,” labour market and household statistics senior manager Jason Attewell said. “It remains close to the nine-year low seen last quarter.”

For the first time since the December 2016 quarter, unemployment has gone up. Labour is no longer going to be able to brag about constant falls in unemployment since it was elected. Sadly, I suspect unemployment will rise more alarmingly in the September quarter, already a month old, as businesses postpone hiring decisions because of economic uncertainty.

It will be interesting to see how Peters and Robertson react to this in the House this afternoon.

If that is the case can we reclassify the billions of dollars of North Islanders’ taxes and donations for the Christchurch quakes and reconstruction as longterm loans rather than assistance to our fellow New Zealanders.

So Kelvin Davis thinks that the answer to an “over resourced” charter school with a decent teacher-student ratio is to bring it back into the public system with a considerably worse teacher-student ratio. No wonder Labour keeps him in witless protection!

  Most people only have a kid or two in our modern world. When faced with the choice of having a Down syndrome child why would you. They need more care than normal kids, will be very unlikely to be successful in life, and cannot provide grandchildren.
  The same can be said for any syndrome that causes significant, developmental, physical, health disabilities.
  If a mother, informed, chooses termination that’s her choice. If a mother, informed, chooses to have the child that’s her choice.
  
  It’s called Rowe vs Wade. Except dads replaced with the child.

    Of course every woman or girl should have the choice to continue or terminate a pregnancy.
    But that choice needs to be based on actual facts, not scaremongering.
    Why would you have a DS kid?
    Whether they need more care is debatable.
    My other kids had more serious health problems than my DS kid.
    Yes, the first thing I thought was….no grandkids from this one!
    But you have no guarantee any of your kids will give you grandkids.
    It’s true they won’t have a great career.
    But on the plus side:
    1) they enjoy life more than other people.
    2) they have sweet kind loving natures and are never ever nasty like a lot of “normal” people.
    That’s enough for many people I’d say.

        UN: no-one actually “chooses” as such to have a DS baby.
        Nature chooses, and the parents may choose not to reject their child.
        In the past handicapped kids were consigned to institutions, which cost the country a lot more than caring for them at home.
        They are not thick on the ground either, at only 1 in a thousand births.
        You should be worrying about all the thousands of young girls dragging up kids on the DPB, paid for by you, and all the future costs in more bennies, corrections, etc.
        No chance of that with DS babies. 🙂

  I’ve been at 4 births, all required a little extra help like drugs, or cutting the perineum, and 3/4 needed some stitches. I think while the risks are small with a hospital nearby, her concept of what’s about to happen to her is a little in the twilight zone. Similar to fantasyland.

  They couldn’t even give me a transfusion because the blood hadn’t been checked for HIV then.
  I gained a new respect for the medical profession that day.

      That’s partly because doctors have always been arrogant and women used to die unnecessarily because they wouldn’t wash their hands between patients, back in the 19th century.
      Now doctors observe good hygiene but we have to deal with idiot midwives and their brainless mantra that “childbirth is a natural process”…therefore doctors and any kind of medical intervention is unnecessary.
      In fact, it’s perfectly safe to kick mothers and babies out of hospital after a few hours because nothing will go wrong.
      Women have had babies at home for millenia….blah, blah, blah.
      And because our country inexplicably does not record permanent brain and other damage to newborns, but only actual deaths, the true rate of damage done to the country’s babies is unknown.

Haha. after three kids and finding out I was having twins, I signed the consent form to have the tubes tied straight away. It was funny. The sonographer said; “there’s a good strong heartbeat. And there’s another good strong heartbeat”. I’m like: “Fuck. My baby has two hearts:?
Hubby who is the light of my life said; “It’s twins, Silly” He strutted around for days. As in: ” I can make twins”.

  We have now received a direct report from Mike in Givon Prison. He was tasered repeatedly by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) while in the wheelhouse of the Al Awda and subsequently tightly handcuffed. He received injuries to his face and head and was bleeding but is now recovering.
  
  It could have been worse:
  
  Of Mike’s fellow flotilla members one was tasered in the head, a 69 year old female surgeon received a head injury and a senior Canadian passenger was received a foot injury and had to be treated in hospital.
  
  But as Mike is “now recovering” we don’t need to worry!

  Pending a rehearing of his committal for contempt of Court. The hearing was conducted wrongly, but the fact of a rehearing doesn’t prevent the same penalty being imposed. The summary of his conduct that the Court of Appeal set out looks like a strong case of contempt, particularly given his conduct at an earlier hearing which resulted in a suspended sentenced being imposed, after an apology, and his acknowledgment that he understood that if he involved himself in similar conduct in the future the suspended sentence could be activated.
