      You’re right of course Shaun. War is an ugly business and cruel things happen that are hard to justify to our consciences afterward. But that is the rule we all know going in – human beings are often ruthless when they feel the need arises. Maybe the lesson to aggressors (or to us all) is that; if you don’t like the rules of the game then don’t play.

    I checked out “Ohaiyou Nippon” (broadcast on NHK at 4:30 a.m. (Japan Time) (7:30 NZ time) and got a surprise.
    The news story led with a weather report about the ongoing head wave and the risks of flooding in western Japan. This was followed by an article on an international Judo convention.
    While I am sure there will be some insert about today being the 73rd anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, it seems that maybe more important issues of today are taking precedence over historical “look what was done to us” types of stories.
    Japan is getting over the past and dealing with the present. Maybe the world can learn something from that.

        Sudden total surrender and takeover by foreign military must have been devastating for the Japanese, even without the horrific effects of two atomic bombs and the heavy losses of Japanese life overseas.
        
        The Japanese went to work, and were highly intelligent in the way they adopted latest manufacturing technique, based on American statistics-based quality control. They adapted and enhanced these to become the world’s leading quality manufacturers, and a leader in economic growth.
        
        The cultural flow was soon two-way, with Japanese martial arts, for example, becoming popular in Western countries.
        
        You have to praise the Americans, who, in contrast to the iron control the Soviet Union imposed on East Europe, adopted a “move on” policy.
        
        As an occasional visitor to Japan, I have seen much that is good in Japanese culture, and Odakyu-sen is correct in that the lesson is to move on.
        
        Formal apologies are a side issue. Don’t forget the endless official apologies under Helen Clark’s government and her grovelling on the floor of an Auckland Pacific Islander home because of a death caused by an electricity company.
        
        What people do in contrition counts for more than their words about their previous action.

        How best to “deal with the past”?
        This goes hand-in-hand with the notion of “punishment for the crimes of your forefathers.”
        
        If dealing with the past means examining the process that led to a war (i.e., the rise of a totalitarian, socialist system with strong national and racial undertones, in which the nation was everything and the individual was nothing; a system which labelled any thought that contradicted the prevailing narrative to be a “crime”) then so much the better.
        
        On the other hand, if dealing with the past means to confess to the crimes of one’s forefathers and to accept punishment for their actions, for now and forevermore, then I don’t see how that can help to build healthy relations between nations.

        Odakyu-sen: more the former. I subscribe to the “warts and all” approach to history. My comment was based more in response to your initial comment about “getting over the past”. It seems to me that modern Japanese are ill informed about the dangers of totalitarianism be it via Empericism or other state mechanism so I guess it depends on what aspect of the past you refer to.
        The Japanese government’s reticence on acknowledging atrocities committed by invading Japanese forces has been a long held sticking point of diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region also.

        Interesting that on a couple of day tours we took in Germany the host repeatedly apologised for WW2 and made a point of saying more than once that Hitler was not German. Odd because it wasn’t like anybody asked and it was the sins of the Fathers/ Grandfathers.

        Lance strange you should get a tour guide in Germany apologising, except unless it is to do with the Holocaust, then the apologies are never ending.
        Generally, 1932 to 1945 has been legally blocked out of the German psyche. Mentioning the war is frowned upon.
        
        Also, the tour guide was correct Hitler was an Austrian & not a German.
        
        As with Japan, the rise of the Nazi regime is not as simple as “the Germans wanted it.” Much of what happened to Germany was caused by the Western allies in 1919, settling old scores. This resulted in a vanquished country looking for easy/scapegoat solutions in the midst of the rose of fascism & communism across Europe.

        The German World War 2 experience is a guide on how to move on from trauma. Tens of thousands of counsellors? Nope. Talking and talking and talking about their trauma? Nope.
        
        Without shutting it out of their minds and focusing on the “now” and the future, how could German people have got over:
        
        – The Red Army rape of hundreds of thousands of women aged from 10 or less to 80 or more in Berlin and eastern Germany.
        
        – The annihilation of East Prussia and the expulsion, often brutal and including rape and murder, of six million or so Germans from neighbouring countries.
        
        – The devastating carpet bombing of Hamburg (42,600 dead), Dresden (25,000), Berlin (20,000 to 50,000), Pforzheim (17,600), Darmstadt (11,500), Kassel (10,000).
        
        Similarly in London, where air raids killed 43,000 people, and in Tokyo (about 100,000 dead), survivors bravely and quietly soldiered on, and succeeding generations recovered.

  One of many examples of US cowardice. The war was ending and they tested weapons on civilians, mainly kids, women and the elderly. Right up there with fire bombing of Dresden, which even the airmen who did it knew was wrong and it haunted them.
  
  They are still up to their old tricks, as under Obama nearly 3 bombs an hour were dropped on civilians, while supporting evil regimes in Israel and Saudi Arabia.

  Saw a story recently about a Fellow who was in Hiroshima and survived with minor injuries. He was evacuated immediately afterwards to Nagasaki…. and survived that too.

    Totally agree with the above comments. I did take the time to listen to some of Lauren Southern’s contributions on YouTube and to be honest she asks questions that we should actually talk about.
    
    For example we are endlessly told by the human rights commission and the powers that be that “diversity is a strength”. We should welcome diversity and that diverse groups made up of people with different sexes and different cultures and different races is stronger than groups that are homogenous.
    
    However is that really true? Is it really true that if we have in society lots of different cultures and different races and no organising principles that we will be a stronger country? Surely we should be able to debate that without the automatic charge of being racist?
    
    The suspicion I have is the mantra “diversity is our strength” is actually a politically correct statement that is not actually true. Lauren Southern is prepared to debate it. She argues her points well. Now she may be wrong? But surely we have the right to hear what she has to say and decide for ourselves?

        I reckon there is a good chance of this. I have just joined Kiwisaver as I have an employer contributed scheme as they are Australian. I am withdrawing all the dough and paying off all of the rest of my mortgage and input into KS. Debt will not be your friend in 2-3 years. Hopefully KS will not be hurt as much and grow when things get better. But I will be debt free, main focus now.

      I am in the design end of the construction industry. We have been on a downhill path this year, with less work, projects not going anywhere and tighter margins. I have had the same story from others and in other areas, and we are all keeping a watching eye on the situation and forward work load and looking closely at expenses and fixed costs. I have heard of redundancies in a number of large companies. In my previous large corporate employer before I joined the capitalist imperialist running dogs oppressing the workers, 3 months downturn led very quickly to talk (and action shortly after) on head count reduction as it is a business with expensive (skilled) staff costs that can bite quickly if you don’t have cashflow and margins to support it. If we aren’t designing, it won’t be built in a year or 2.
      Payment delays and overdues are much worse as well compared to a year ago, which is a sign from previous recessions that things are going to get nasty.

        The axe is coming down on the pseudo-university expansion of polytechnics in New Zealand.
        
        I would imagine that an Otago Polytechnic will find its branches (Cromwell as well as Auckland) will be vulnerable in the imminent reorganisation of the sector.

      He will have to pay fees. I believe it only applies to to Year 13 High School students. I read a couple of articles that poorer background students many of whom dropped out before Year 13 and had to do foundation year courses or have been working missed out on the free fees this year.

The teachers are involving primary aged children in their fight/strike with the COLL for higher payments by getting little children to draw their favourite teacher and say how they would miss them if their teacher wasn’t there any more.

Children are innocent and should be kept out of industrial relations and adult politics. They are not pawns to be used by the teachers for their own pecuniary advantage.

        Time that you learnt that you can’t forc people to do what they don’t want to do. (well the COL thinks they can of course but they can’t).
        And that the difference, encouraging people to learn rather than beating them up.
        I doubt there is a person on KB that couldn’t tell you about their best teacher and the worst. One encourages and gets kids excited about learning, the other is there for the pay.
        We shouldn’t forget that teachers are people also and the abilities are the sum of their experiences, so ifthey didn’t learn by encouragement why would we expect them to act that way?
        
        One can compare kids at 4-5 looking forward to school and then within a short time that has become a chore. No excitement left.
        
        Watched it happen to my own kids and my grand kids.

        Try getting up at 2.30 every morning to be at work by 3 am.
        Try working outside in all weather an seasons.
        Try working 72 hours legal (not to mention the other hours]
        Try driving in traffic on shitty roads and hoping you dont get killed every day.
        Try getting 4 weeks holiday a year.
        Try sometimes staying away from your family for up to 5 nights a week in hotels with a tea ands cut lunch provided.
        Try doing all that and then getting paid $17.00 p/h.
        
        Dont tell me how hard Teachers work as I am on school boards and give up my time and any monies made are returned to the school as it is a choice I make .
        
        What Im saying is you think Teacher have it tuff.

I saw a particularly nasty column from Labour apologist Jane Bowron on Stuff this morning, with the usual personal attacks on various National MP’s.

Something about National ‘toffs’, Bridges and Key’s diction and accents, attacks on Amy Adams and Collins. Ho hum.

Thought this was particularly tasteless piece of ‘journalism’ but not surprised from that quarter.

It must have been particularly vile as it seems to have been removed from the site. Possibly too defamatory or just in such poor taste even Stuff has withdrawn it.

I’m not sure under what category Bowron and her ilk are allowed access to write their diatribes now hate speech is a thing in NZ.
Political commentary ? Hardly, unless ‘My Tribe good, the other lot evil’ constitutes political writing now.
Witty repartee ? Nope. Nothing clever in mocking someone’s speech pattern or appearance.

I can only surmise she is a friend of one of the editors.

Anyway, keep an eye out for a reappearance, probably heavily edited. Her vitriol is so off-putting it is one of National’s best weapons.

  I listened carefully to Simon Bridges on RNZ this morning and he does have a problem with enunciating some words.
  
  I think this is a matter that should be addressed as people turn off from speech they find hard to decipher.
  
  A decent speech teacher should be able to assist him with some exercises to bring clarity to his speech.

        Give Bridges a chance. He’s intelligent, and a few quick elocution lessons and daily practice would make him more effective. His speech might become a distinguishing asset, as the lisp was to Churchill.
        
        New Zealanders will eventually be bored by the middle-aged working mum’s baby saga.
        
        In the meantime, so bedazzled are the media’s mainly female reporters, with the their biological clocks ticking away their 30s and 40s, they’ve scarcely noticed that Jacinderella has identified hereself as being in the anti-free-speech camp.

    However, I have listened to a couple of RNZ interviews with Jacinda and they are lovefests whereas Simon has been give some very hostile interviews. (I didn’t hear the one this morning). He has done well in the interviews I have heard.

Two pieces from the weekend, that make you think the world is on its head.
1. The Sunday piece on Southern/Molyeneaux was half hearted, but the threats from the left to first boycott and then ban the programme highlights exactly where the left are on free speech.
2. A Boa constrictor eats a pigeon on the streets of East London. The RSPCA get involved. Are they worried about the people or animals in the area. No, they are worried about any harm that may come to the snake. Now let is understand this, a Boa is an exotic snake to the UK, the RSPCA are worried it may get run over by a bus or attacked by another animal. Give me strength, they should be more worried about which goon is keeping exotic animals in urban London that they are unable to control, and there are multiple risks if these animals escape to people & the environment.

Seems its alright when they do it. Sometime ago the woman known as ms/ Ardern being paid as a list MP in NZs Parliament,with the blessing of her Party she headed off to Europe to address a bunch of so called young socialist/commie youths.
Ardern on addressing the crowd was heard to utter the words comrades at least 15 times. Since then she is known in commie European circles as the “Commie Chic Comrade” Ardern from NZ.Imagine just a few days ago Ardern put the boot into Two Young Canadians who thought that NZ would be open to” free speech”.Talk about a mirror with two faces,and a chanter of Comrade Comrade at least 15 times Ardern supported the attack and verbal assault on the two innocent Canadians.
From NZs so called Main Stream Media infested with” lunatics from far left”. To name a few RNZ,DOMINION POST ,NZ HERALD TV3
.Even worse NZs taxpayer funded TVNZ came out with the comment,of “Free Speech Fanatics”.Not a good look for the once famous NZs hard fought rights for democracy.

Starting to look that if the type of attack on free speech by peope like Ardern and her sycophants is continued ,Will not be long before NZ is known as the “Socialist Republic of South Pacific”

That garbage on the Sunday show last night was an absolute disgrace. Talk about jack up, they send an “indigenous woman” to interview them. They consult with Paul Spoonley, an ultra neo-Marxist. They rabbit on and on about “privelege” a term they have taken from American lefty activists. And they have Davidson and Kamo pushing an agenda. Then at the end they have some Somali who is not assimilating say “you can’t have diversity of thought without diversity of people.” Bollocks, on one side of my family I had Catholic Labour supporters and on the other, farming, non religious National voters. Spoonley said refugees like those Key was pressured to take all play an active role in the community. Crap, their labour participation rate was 29% compared to the overall economy’s 68%, and their unemployment was 26-30% compared with 5.7% at the time. Spoonley couldn’t be more wrong. In denying reports he’s worried about legal scrutiny of Donald Trump Jr., Trump made a big shift in how he talks about the Trump Tower meeting.

President Donald Trump hit back at reports he’s worried his son Donald Trump Jr. could be in legal jeopardy over his involvement in the meeting in Trump Tower to get dirt on Hillary Clinton in 2016. The president’s defense: The meeting, which the administration initially wrote off as about Russian adoption, was, in fact, to get information on a political opponent. And that’s “totally legal.” But Trump himself definitely didn’t know about it.

Trump appeared to be reacting by a story by Philip Rucker, Robert Costa, and Ashley Parker at the Washington Post juxtaposing Trump’s private “brooding” and public “roaring” in recent days. The Post reports Trump has been increasingly anxious about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections and expressed to confidants concern that some people around him, including his eldest son, might be caught up in the probe.

Trump Jr. is under scrutiny for his role in organizing a meeting at Trump Tower in June 2016 between campaign officials and Russians — a move that the president worries means he “inadvertently may have wandered into legal jeopardy,” the Post reports. CNN separately reported that Trump is concerned about his son’s exposure in the Russia probe.

Right now on Radiolive, Sainsbury is saying Labour is a shoe in for a second term. National are stuffed, Bridges has the worst job in the world and Cindy is invincible. Did he see the same poll numbers I saw? National at 45%, a 3-4% swing (which is the margin of error) against the CoL and they are wiped out. Just wait for bad policy to have an effect.

The Labour-led government has called an urgent crisis meeting with construction industry to be held at Parliament today.

Shane Jones says the industry wants taxpayers to shoulder more risk. As a taxpayer, I would argue that we are already shouldering an abundance of risk with Jones’ multi-billion-dollar regional slush fund, let alone bailing out the construction industry. Enough is enough Mr Jones!

  The Otago Daily Times, apart perhaps from the Gisborne Herald, is the last of the locally owned daily newspapers in NZ.
  
  You can see the benefits. The owners, the Smiths, live in the community, and surely feed some practical NZ balance to the editorial staff.
  
  Now that journalists come out of the tertiary mills, they tend to be standard liberal-leftists. In previous times, there was apprenticeship-style training, which often included in intakes adults from other occupations.
  
  This tended to provide a greater range of opinions and attitudes among newspaper staffs, albeit with too few women, except during wartime shortages of males.

    Yep…..if central or local government aren’t featured on every page of every newspaper in the country daily, then someone pushing their agenda is; just look how often DHB’s and councils figure in the paper daily. And the education sector. Then you have the radio. NZ is becoming like the Scandinovelty countries, vying to create the perfect civilian via the guidance of the public service institutions of health and education, and their statistics and performance indicators.   NZ is a puddle in a global forest: when it rains on the forest we get swamped. Finance Ministers have traditionally been expected to have some knowledge how NZ Inc. works in the world. Also to be able to steer NZ through the varying globally imposed situations as they arise.

Given that only Ireland comes anywhere near the All Blacks at the moment, and the fact that the top level rugby talent is spread more thinly across the leading clubs in Europe than it is in NZ, it is simply absurd to argue that the Crusaders would not trouble the top clubs over there.

    The Lions were placed second on the pecking order according to the convoluted conference system even though they had less points than the Hurricanes or the Chiefs. They also won less games than the Highlanders & the same as the Jaguares, but had more bonus points.
    No wonder the crowds have lost interest.
    My area of Mangere Bridge is Blues territory, used to be Chiefs, but there’s far more interest in the Warriors.
    I’ve been to some Blues games. I get the impression there’s a few Blues supporters who remember when they were great plus ex pats cheering for the opposition.
    Another problem in NZ is the awful stadiums with their terrible parking & abysmal catering.
    The problem Eden Park, for example, has is there’s only about 25 days a year of cricket/rugby which makes providing facilities for cooking reasonable food uneconomic.

I have listened to Stefan Monyneux for a couple of years, so he is not new to me… but I’ve just heard him talking to Stephen Hicks about the history of Europe leading up to the rise of postmodernism.

In this two hour Youtube discussion they analysed together the effects of such things as modernism, the agricultural revolution, the industrial revolution etc and the effects that these events had on individuals’ and nations’ thinking and behaviour (amongst many other subjects).

Nothing that either of these men said was even remotely ‘alt-right’, racist, ‘nazi’ or even vaguely slanted towards supremacy of any one group over another.

In my view, its a (literally) frightening thought that such a clear thinker with such a deep grasp of history and culture should be viewed as ‘repugnant’ by the ignorant slime that rules this country and the angry and borderline violent thugs who support them and put them into power.

People who care about western civilisation and don’t want to see it all flushed down the drain of collectivism and mindless tribalism MUST formulate a workable plan to resist the threat which faces us now.

What are we going to do? How should we proceed from here, because if intelligent moral and principled people in the West don’t get their act together really soon, then I fear it will be too late.

    1) They have jobs and are busy people
    2) They have respect for the Law and have no desire to spit at Cops (by this I also mean not wanting to shut down Cities etc)
    3) They have faith in Democracy (possibly too much if this current insane Government is anything to go by)

I’ve been thinking about the polling results from last night and they were very good for National being just 3% away from winning the next election after a year in opposition. If our economy continues to deteriorate and the far left ramps up their SJW rhetoric (just look at how Little Andrew keeps popping up in the headlines) it is going to squeeze the coalitions support from both sides. NZF voters do not like far left politics and i think it is a great shame their party continues to side with far left Labour governments. I know they picked up another % of the vote but i honestly don’t expect this to hold as time goes on and the Greens continue to enact their agenda.
This seems like the best ground for the National party to fight on. They could easily push NZF under 5% by ruling out any coalition and picking up both NZF and Labours centrist voters.

  I reckon the smartest thing Bridges could do right now is declare that he won’t go into coalition with Winston. It means that a vote for Winston is ‘only’ a vote for Labour and the Greens. He has no leveraging power going forward then. He won’t get the protest vote.

      Don’t need one they could win with 48% of the vote, correct me if i am wrong. Not saying this is ideal but it is certainly possible although they will need a coalition partner eventually. If Winston gets knocked out early i don’t see him returning to politics. At that point it would be a good time to look at re-branding the Conservative party and finish off NZF for good. Sad because i like NZF but they keep on enabling the far left in our country.

    I don’t know if a party has ever won 50% of the popular vote in NZ. They’ve already given NZF the fingers. The Greens are a very long shot. My guess is they will be angling to revive the Maori Party. Didn’t Simon Bridges makes a bit of a point about his own Maori ethnicity at the conference?

(53 False statement in application for paternity order
Every person commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 who, in any application for a paternity order under this Act, makes any statement that, if made on oath in the proceedings, would amount to perjury as defined in section 108 of the Crimes Act 1961.)

This is an exemption for perjury specifically to protect Women. NZ presently has the worlds highest official paternity test failure rate in the world at 40%.

These women commit perjury for a variety of reasons. The vast majority revolve around personnel financial gain from the victim of thier dishonesty.

They are never held to account for thier offending despite many victims experiencing profound harm. This law is automatically ignored by the courts. They act to obstruct its use and in all events seeking accountability justice is perverted.

IRD destroys all accounts of duped men upon payment. Destroying evidence.

Would the Ministry of Women allow this exemption if men were the offenders?

What would a Minister for Men have to say?

I’ve long felt sorry for Deborah Hill Cone and her ongoing study of psychology. She’s finally reached the point I knew she would reach, had to reach:

DHC is unusual. She’s telling it like it is – out loud. There are huge numbers of others who have learned the same things. They just put it aside for all manner of reasons, with all manner of rationalisations, most of them based on a desperate need for individuals to feel good about themselves irrespective of their faults and project the fault onto others in that pursuit, abetted by do-gooding ‘professionals’ weeping for them.

“I learned that Daniel Stern, an expert on mother-child bonding, found a mother’s instinctual focus on and devotion to her infant were critical to the child’s development. I learned that the legendary paediatrician Donald Winnicott encouragingly said children don’t need a perfect mother, but a “good enough” mother. But he found for the infant to begin to develop a capacity to experience a relationship to external reality, or even form a conception of external reality, to start with the mother must have total empathic atunement to her baby’s needs. Later the infant learns to tolerate frustration. Even then that needs to be a gradual process. Winnicott said: “Not having to react is the only state in which the self can begin to be.”

I share DHC’s disclaimer, “I fully acknowledge I might be projecting my own neuroses on to others. As a sensitive and cautious child, I hated being left with strangers.”

However, the established truth for many more than she and I is, “So we learn all this theory about human development, yet out in the real world, well… It’s like we don’t even know this stuff. I suspect we don’t want to examine too closely what effect this has on the developing self. If we knew about it we might have to stop being in denial and face the truth. It is easier not to know. And even when we gain knowledge, so often it is used not to lead social change but to shame women.”

“Little children, babies even, are farmed out to for-profit childcare centres, sometimes for 10 hours a day, because their parents have to go back to work, to become productive economic units. Is this process “good enough”? I don’t think so.”

I agree with her. And it doesn’t only apply to children and child care. Not only is the deliberate ignorance and refusal of appropriate human care and conditions universal in every area of society, it’s producing damaged people who then define themselves as ‘the norm’ and seek to spread the said damage as far and wide as possible.

My view Anne is that we should strive to educate our children to be confident and eventually independent, characteristics that will enable them to function in the competitive world they will live in.
To achieve that requires the age old formula of love and nuturing , to provide them with the basic necessities of life such as food, a safe home and a caring loving enviroment to grow in. All of that can be achieved with working parents we just have to make the effort.

  Unfortunately, ‘your view’ is irrelevant in the face of known, researched, proven fact. But that is the problem.
  
  The facts are really inconvenient in a world where every single individual has a ‘my view’, has a right to impose it on others (especially small children), and dedicatedly asserts both their ‘view’ and some supposed right for that ‘view’ to be held as truth – generally by twisting and distorting statistics and a perverse notion of ‘human rights’ in which the damaged can argue for their ongoing maintenance and procreation.
  
  Having said all that, the precise point that DHC is making is the benefits of organising society on the most positive and successful basis to achieve what you’re describing.
  
  I might add that a ‘caring, loving environment’ can only be defined by the recipient. The world has an abundance of people complaining that they have been ‘caring and loving’ to others who really didn’t see it the same way. One thing, however, is for certain – if you’re completely absent, you’re neither.

    Used by countless generations of head cases as an excuse to torture their children. Giving toddlers a crack round the head that sends them halfway up a supermarket aisle, belting kids with jug cords & demonstrating parental love with a length of 4 x 2.

So, there is no possibility of ongoing debates about the best way to care for and educate babies and children.     My youngest daughter started working alongside her older sister part time at a local Japanese restaurant from the age of 15 and a half.
    She learned that a Mission Bay cafe lunch costs two full hours of labor (at least). I remember telling her that her taxes were going in part to pay for government employees and others on welfare. I think she got the message.
    She learned to turn up on time, to smile, make the public feel welcome and to cope with their needs (“I want gluten-free soba noodles!”)
    
    My older daughter said that she learned a lot of useful lessons from dealing with the public that she now applies at her office in the Wynyard Quarter in Auckland.

New family links between New Zealand First and controversial deputy police commissioner appointment Wally Haumaha have emerged, as one of the party’s senior ministers looks to restart the inquiry into the process which led to his promotion.

Fletcher Tabuteau, the deputy leader of New Zealand First, comes from Waiteti Marae in Ngongotaha near Rotorua, of which Haumaha is the chairman.

They are both Ngāti Ngāraranui and Tabuteau referred to Haumaha as a member of his whānau in his maiden speech to Parliament in 2014.

Tabuteau’s uncle Tommy Gear – a close friend of Winston Peters – is a trustee of the Ngāti Ngāraranui Hapu Trust along with Haumaha.

So many of the “green choices” we have are really emotional bullshit.

Plastic bags use a bit of the old fossil fuel for the plastic and some more for the manufacturing process and cost virtually nothing to transport. Paper bags use a whole lot more energy in their manufacturing, when they rot they release green house gases and are relatively heavy – hence expensive and fossil-fuelly to transport. But apparently you should feel smug about using paper bags…

For all of us who don’t buy a Stuff newspaper, part-Maori bore Joel Maxwell, in the chain’s newspapers today, praises the Hamilton City Council for appointing Maori to council committees – with voting rights, and pay.

With referendums/referenda of citizens rejecting race-based Maori “wards” on councils, the Hamilton City Council has outmanoeuvred opponents by deciding to appoint Maori, unvoted for by ratepayers, to council committees, with voting rights.

Maxwell writes in the Stuff newspapers:

“The good thing about these Hamilton appointments is that Johnny and Jane Redneck can’t get rid of them through a referendum. You’re stuck with them, Johnny, and the evil racism they apparently represent.”

Our newspapers haven’t fought for free speech in Auckland, and now they are apparently pushing for race-based local government.

    Nope, Psycho, in the Maori language it’s Te Reo for the language and Māori for the ethnicity.
    
    In English it’s “Maori” for both.
    
    “Maaori” is Pidgin English, a patois.

      She already had 3 kids.
      A neighbour of mine had her 6th child at 25.
      She told me her family had been very concerned because she was getting perilously close to 20 before she had her first.

      Read an interesting article last week about some indigenous people trying to work out which tribes they belonged to for the purposes of receiving treaty payouts.
      Some cheeky Pakeha asked them if they would spend some of the money on their whanau in care and in prison.
      I think it was the old matriarch who replied: “they put them in…they can pay”.
      She was a mother of 12.
      I wonder if it’s ever crossed her mind that maybe having such a huge number of kids might be the reason they end up in care or in jail.

A group of bikers out on a ride stopped suddenly when they saw an extremely attractive young lady standing on the railing of a bridge.
