        Actually the Imperial Chinese weren’t too keen on importing opium to stupify the people and losing all their silver in what for the Chinese was a very poor deal.
        
        So they had a war on drugs January 1839, they lost.
        
        Mao on taking power in 1949 also had a war on drugs. Apparently it was successful by the simple implementation of mass execution of dealers .

        Trump declared a war on drugs and invited other countries to subscribe.
        While KBers (love you all!) bicker about whose war on drugs it is and who declared it first, the problem hasn’t gone away.
        IMO Trump has shown himself to be a ‘roll up the sleeves and get it done’ kind of bloke, and SLG thumbing her nose at him does a disservice to New Zealand as well as the rest of the world.
        If central America wasn’t awash with drugs and associated crime, there wouldn’t be entire populations trying to evacuate to USA by fair means or foul. If ever there was a chance to clean up the cesspit Trump is offering it.
        Meanwhile back in NZ, we import our drug dealers from all over the world, give them a hug and respect their privacy.

    Perhaps Winston Peters, in his capacity as Foreign Minister, could explain what is meant in regard to the Czech Republic when his chosen Prime Minister, Ardern, will “not discuss further details of the Sroubek case, such as whether the man’s life might be in danger, but said “you can draw a fair conclusion on why the Minister made his decision”.
    
    What does Winston “read between the lines” in this example of transparency, integrity and honesty, from his New Zealand First-selected Labour Government’s policy on immigration?

        1. Does this incident have paralells with one some years ago involving LAX.
        
        2. Will the Police Commissioner issue a denial as he did last time.
        
        3. Will this be like Watergate where Richard Milhaus Nixon was bought down by the cover up not the crime.
        
        4. Will someone in Immigration find it all too much and release the documentation around the real reason to a source not the MSM who are covering up the cover up in the main.
        
        5. Will Winston walk away from the COL not because of his MPs who have the ethics morals and principles of swamp rats but because at least some of his Party members threaten to walk away if he doesn’t.

  The Czech Republic has an excellent police force, and any suggestion that Antolik is in danger on return home is absolute nonsense. If there is any truth in the suggestion his life is as risk (which I don’t believe there is) then he’d be more at risk in New Zealand than he would in be the Czech Republic. ILG has clutched at the wrong straw/lie here.
  
  The truth is Antolik must have leverage over some powerful people, and he’s used this leverage very successfully.
  
  If the real truth about this case can’t be surfaced then we’ve stopped living in a democracy.

    After the Second World War farms were divided and sold to ex-Servicemen who had given up a significant period of their lives (often through conscription.) The farms were allocated by a ballot system which could only be entered by those with genuine need and genuine interests in farming. The process was initially designed by Labour but subsequently administered by National. It is difficult to compare the system which followed the War to the hypocritically designed mess we are all paying for thanks to the idiotic Twyford.

        There was a similar system after World War 1 for returned soldiers.
        
        It largely failed because they mostly put the veterans on grazing country that still needed capital as well as labour to develop as farmland. No help was provided with working capital, and many, or probably most, of the soldiers settled on the farms had to walk off them.

  Its quite comical the backtracking they are having to do as they realise their own policies are poorly implemented.
  
  Twyfords comment that it is for all New Zealanders who are struggling highlights the lack of prioritisation. They might be struggling but they are ok (it looks like they weren’t struggling either with all of the word travel they have managed to fit in). This couple would have gotten into a new house the same way we all did, saving. A few more years of doing the hard yards and they would be home owners.

The anti plastic lady on Garner showed shampoo and deodorant in block soap form. She raved that the shampoo worked on her hair and the panel sort of gooed. How much for the shampoo, oh around $20, but it lasts 6 months. She said the world is moving away from plastics, but no one questioned the 5 dirty Asian plastic choked rivers. And yes, she sounded so much like a Remuera lady.

    lifes, my hairdresser has a vast range of shampoos in plastic bottles, and I can’t see him going cardboard. Imagine the mess if his delivery guy got the shampoo cartons wet and the contents turned to foamy mush. I visited a museum once which had old fashioned glass bottles containing all kinds of kitchen foods and sauces. Glass of course is dangerous in the wrong hands which is why plastic beer jugs were introduced. Oh dear, environment warriors just can’t seem to win.

How many of you remember that twit Chippie Hipkins telling us that the Ministry of Education was seriously underfunded by the previous government & not able to deliver the vital infrastructure etc?

Well, based on some anecdotal examples I know of, that is rubbish. For example, drive north from Auckland on SH1 & you come to the sleepy town of Wellsford, right next door to Rodney College is the old primary school. The old primary school has been closed now for some years & is a derelict dump for vandals, a new school was built 300 meters along a side street. My point is, why has this asset been left to rot? It is not as though there is not development happening in Welsford, a little further north is a subdivision on a green field site. Do these wasteful bureaucrats & politicians worry about how they waste taxpayer/ratepayer money? Clearly no, because all we need is another working group to formulate how to fleece NZers of more tax!

I heard the previous Immigration Minister under the National lead Government on the radio this morning claim that he drew the line at allowing certain foreign criminals to stay in NZ, including drug & sex offenders.
Wasn’t there a big fuss early last year when Sultan Ali Abdul Ali Akbari was allowed to remain. I’m pretty sure that was under his watch.
In 2015 he was jailed for two years and one month for five charges of indecent acts on girls aged 8 and 10 and indecently assaulting an 18-year-old.
His offending happened while Akbari was on bail awaiting trial on a 2013 charge.

        Did labour leave us with deficits into the distant future?
        No, Labour enjoyed surpluses through most of their previous government. However you could argue that the GFC led to a steep and quick deterioration of our accounts and as a result in the lead up to the GFC in 2008 things weren’t looking so rosey.
        
        Did labour leave us in recession?
        No, but you could argue that the impact of the GFC on our economy put us into a recession. If you can find a way to prove that Labour predicted the GFC and failed to act on it, I’m all ears.
        
        Did labour leave us with MASSIVE welfare commitments?
        
        Potentially, but these massive welfare commitments were due predominantly to Superannuation, which in its present form was created by Muldoon’s National government.
        
        Did labour leave, and I quote, “The cupboard is bare”?
        
        May 2015, John Key:
        “Prime Minister John Key is lowering expectations about measures to combat child poverty in this week’s budget.
        
        Mr Key says there’ll be “some support” for those suffering material deprivation.
        
        “But you’d appreciate that there’s a limited amount of resources that we’ve got in very tight financial conditions,” he told reporters on Monday.”
        
        The cupboard is bare, was also spoken by Muldoon. It’s a common thing.
        
        Did National inherit a mess as well as a GFC?
        No mess, there was a budget surplus, and the GFC hit in September, Government elected in November.
        
        Did National handle the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes, while all this was going on?
        
        The Key government did what they thought was the best thing to do in the circumstances. A Labour government would likely have done similar things, especially on the borrowing.

        NZ GDP was better under the previous Labour government than the previous National government:

        As for unemployment, that’s largely a component of the changing face of employment, i.e. “McJobs”, the “gig economy”, and the change in how we record unemployment.
        
        Wages rose, but again, it’s how we measure the metric that’s important. It doesn’t work to simply average out all wages. Inequality increased due to those at the top earning substantially more as those at the bottom faced increasing tax due to the impact of tax cuts and GST increases causing a redistribution of the taxation system. Although, to a certain extent it was alleviated by changes to Working for Families it still favoured the well-off.
        
        As we have seen, surpluses appear to have been achieved through unsustainable cuts in essential services.

Not really sure why there is so much surprise and outrage on KB concerning Karel Sroubek as any casual observer would have noticed that Immigration New Zealand and it’s associated side kicks ceased to be a credible body about 20 years ago when the immigration boom really swung into gear.
They are completely overloaded with cases, staff lack experience and in a lot of cases various UN treaties successive governments have signed up to tie their hands.
Of course a huge amount of their staff are now immigrants themselves which opens up all sorts of avenues for corrupt and dishonest behaviour to top it all off.
In this case the minister is in the gun but I could guarantee you that what you are seeing here is the tip of the iceberg and if the average New Zealander could see what is really going on this portfolio they would be horrified.

I have an elderly neighbor who said he felt mildly shameful when he put only $20.00 in his car instead of the normal $ 40.00 that he’s been putting in weekly for a decade ,” just can’t afford it anymore”he said .
” The fat little C_ _T ” were his next words when i pointed out he’d voted for the ferret Peters.
This is a man in his 80’s that is paying $3500,00 in rates a year after his seniors discount.
Reckons life is no fun when every dollar has to be counted and it’s got much worse in the last 12 months….
Not as much visiting children and grandchildren will be the outcome for him.

In the places where most of the plastic waste ends up in the waterways there are children making money in collecting it. Filament can be strengthened, colored with minimal additives. It is a big growth industry with an increasing number of various size systems coming on the market. But boy are NZ showing the world how clever they are by getting rid of plastic bags. The IPCC has arbitrarily changed the definition of the word ‘climate’. Since 1930, the definition of ‘climate’ adopted by the World Meteorological Organisation is the average of a particular weather parameter over the past 30 years. It is an empirical measure based on observational evidence.

For its recent report the IPCC has changed the definition of climate to what has been loosely called “the climate we are in.”. It still uses 30 years for its estimate of global warming and hence climate – but now it is the 30 years centred on the present.

There are some obvious problems with this hidden change of goalposts. We have observational temperature data for the past 15 years but, of course, none for the next 15 years. However, never let it be said that the absence of data is a problem for inventive climate scientists.

The IPCC cherry-picks input from sources where historical data has been ‘adjusted’, and from scientists whose predictive models have been shown to be shown to be poor as best, or absolute failures as worst.

Junk science isn’t science. It’s quasi-religious dogma. And this folks is why we are being taxed more.

The Red Radio web site has Jenny Salesa, the Associate Minister of Education, talking up the need for the various Polynesian languages plus Fijian in our schools, plus Hindi and Mandarin.

Salesa claims projections indicate that 50 per cent of New Zealand’s population will be non-white, but doesn’t give her target date.

Do people who migrate to New Zealand because it is a First World Western country, really want to fragment it into the Third World countries they come from?

It would be good to have impartial population projections as sound as possible, so that those who want New Zealand to remain a First World, Western country, can tailor political support to suit.

The opening of the Red Radio report is the wake-up call for white New Zealanders:

    I do not quite understand the government’s answers. The opposition must bear some responsibility. I understand that a number of foreign criminals were allowed to stay under National. What is not clear is whether official decided they could stay or if officials said they should not stay and a National Minister overruled the officials and allowed them to stay.
    
    Another thing that is not clear is in the case referred to if the offender had PR. The fact that someone has PR should not mean they should not be deported for a serious crime but that the offending should be more serious and/or more repetitive.
    
    I do not think the opposition questioning was aggressive enough. They could have asked for an assurance that no Labour MPs, senior Labour officials or their close friends or families were clients of this drug dealer.
    
    The question could have been ruled out of order by the Speaker but it would be on the record.

Gosh -the woke left really are being tied in knots by this Government.

Firstly the find themselves supporting a TPPA which has been recycled with a couple of new letters in its name which don’t mean much.

Secondly they have to defend a Minister accused of assaulting a staff member , or in the cases of the #metoo movement, disappear entirely and refuse to comment.

Thirdly they have to support a Government that takes a hard line on rolling over on the countless pay demands made by unions seeking pay-back for election support.

Now they are having to support the fact that entitled and seemingly well-off middle-class millenials are the winners in the KiwiScam lottery, rather than those people that “really can’t” afford to buy their own homes.

It must be hard being left.

Australian newspaper The Courier Mail has captioned a poignant photo of Prince Harry with Meghan being greeted with a hongi in Wellington as the “Sniff test”. The Brisbane-based paper continues with its ignorant comments, headlining an article about the royal couple’s arrival in Wellington: “NZ really nose how to welcome royal cuzzies”.

They quote someone from Waikato University:

University of Waikato associate professor at the faculty of Māori and Indigenous studies Tom Roa said it was not funny and would be offensive in Australia, New Zealand or the UK, regardless of an indigenous context, to suggest that people of a high status had to be sniffed. … “They might have an audience that consider it funny, but I don’t find it funny in the least.”

They could (for balance) have quoted David Garrett too:

I too am embarrassed when visitors to the country are “greeted” by a group of half naked Maori who then perform a war dance in front of them … I am not sure quite what “my culture” is…but it sure as hell isn’t represented by a bunch of half naked Maori doing a war dance and rolling their eyes like madmen.
