      The legislation joins three other recent bills signed by President Trump on the. It allocate millions of dollars to fight sex trafficking and resources for survivors.

        My mother lived alone until the age of 95 down in Timaru because that’s what she wanted. She was fortunate enough to be able to cope quite well on her on until one day she had a stroke and died.

    Perhaps she never had children? My great aunt died a few months ago at 91, still living alone by choice. She lived in a five bedroom house on a large section until she was 87, too. My grandmother is 89 and lives independently. No one should have to feel unsafe on their own property, regardless of their family status. I’m happily single, childless, and occupy my own home. I plan to remain that way, God help anyone who tries to cross my threshold without permission!

I also get the feeling that if I did get especially clucky and pay a lesbian to put a turkey baster in her, you might not think that is valuable to the culture you wish to promulgate.
        
        My great aunt mentioned above never married or had children, but left nearly two million dollars to various charities in her will, and a substantial amount whilst alive. I’d say she contributed just as much as anyone who ever got pregnant.

        fernglas: Middle class parents put in a few 10’s of thousands of hours of free labour to provide society with a taxpayer who will generally contribute more than a million bucks in tax over their life time at a typical cost to the state of $1-200k in education and health. And they have to work hard (and pay a lot of tax) to support those kids, each of which also costs middle class parents a few $100k to raise – money they can’t spend on swanning off overseas on expensive holidays or indulging in dissipative hobbies like the childless can. Good parents are in effect incredibly generous to the state.
        
        Maggy: a few might, but are they putting 30-50 hours a week on top of working like good parents do?

Sexual preferences are irrelevant so long as you can provide a stable loving home life to your kids, instilling positive society enhancing values and preferably with more than one parental figure. My real bugbear is that I think the west is the best, and we should not allow the pinnacle of human freedoms and happiness that we represent to be eroded and allowed to fade away through lack of procreative activity.
        
        Raising children into successful contributing adults is far more valuable to our society and the future of humanity than any non-R&D charity work.

    That relates to the Law Commission report that I was in charge of on extended self defence where people (usually women) kill a partner when they are in fear of their life.
    Australia, the UK and many states in the US have this concept. The jury has to assess whether the accused person had a genuine fear for their life.

    If the professor is who I think she is, she has been arguing this line for years and upset Peter Zohrab and others. Peter pushed debate too far on this when she gave lectures on provocation as a partial defence for murder (when the defence existed it enabled murder to be downgraded to manslaughter historically meaning the offender did not swing on the end of a rope). She effectively ‘blackballed’ Peter’s admission to the bar and he still has not been admitted because he cannot keep his mouth shut. IMO her judgment on this was impeccable.

    I heard the interview as well. I must admit that the fact that she worked for Waikato’s Law School (a.k.a ‘Te Law’) rather reduced her credibility.

      I emailed her and mentioned the case where Gay Oakes murdered Doug Gardner and a number of lesbians as some woman’s refuge at the very least were accessories after the fact.
      
      Oakes could have left any time. She murdered Gardner because he was going to go back with his wife. The motive was that same as many men who kill their wives or partners.
      
      I told her I know very much about the case and offered her to take a copy of the trial transcripts which I have.
      
      She replied politely but was not interested in the transcripts.
      
      It sounds like she only believes in equality if it does not disadvantage woman.

  The other day on TV there was a drama about Chopper Read. I watched his 60 minute interview on YouTube and when it finished it automatically came up with an interview with some bloke on Teesside, UK, called The Taxman, and then an interview with Reggie Kray and some of his mates.
  These blokes were absolutely vicious, but they were treated are celebrities.
  They are far worse than these people in those articles, despicable that they might be.
  And here they are on TV and viewers can’t get enough of them.

    The difference with Read and the Krays is that they did not directly target the average joe. Their victims were mainly criminals from rival organisations and it was rare for a member of the public be seriously hurt by London or Melbourne gang activity. Both the Krays and Read were (Read still is) very marketable items for the media.

        They get robbed because they sell tobacco products that are now outrageously expensive.

      This is an argument used by penal reform groups – if let out of jail they would only be violent to other crims, gang members etc. They presumably think the Panmure RSA crime (a serious attack against workers who were neither crims nor ferals) was a one off never to be repeated.

      Back in its heyday Kings Cross was one of Sydney’s safest entertainment areas because the underworld bosses such as Lennie McPherson and George Freeman did not want petty criminals disrupting their well established networks.   Apparently, the name of the highest point on Kapiti Island is named after one of the tribe’s chiefs. The large gentleman on the TV was horrified the chief’s name had been used on a famous, and very delicious cheese.

Another day another young staff member calls in sick with ‘headache and diarrhoea’. Weve had a lot of these young ones calling in sick this season. A lot of them the same ones that are trying to drum up support for union membership. Wages going up but whats the great plan to increase productivity? Extra breaks, extra meal allowances and days off well help im sure!
Maybe 10 beach days a year as well on the agreement that they will be taken on fine days only so we can plan to run a business

    Cant automate. We do use some contracting which can be even more unreliable and frustrating with the endless training involved.
    Ive had 2 or 3 sick days in 22 years. I learned early on that I hated having to cover for my team mates when they did it so I couldnt do it to anyone else.
    Today’s sickie guy was travelling in the work vehicle with me last year when a news item with Jacinduh came on. He said shes really good aye? I said I dont like her. Awkward silence for next 5 minutes travelling back to work.

      She won a World Championship and was a really nice lass…
      
      But she was (in)famous for her sick days.
      
      Eventually, one day, the Personnel Manager (he’d be ‘Human Resources’ now, grrr) called her into his office and showed her a calendar.
      
      One of those long things columned by Mondays, Tuesdays etc.
      
      Each of her sickies had been coloured in.
      
      Solid lines on Fridays and Mondays.

        I employed a girl straight of school, about 30 years ago. At the beginning of her ninth week in the job I pointed out that she had had six days off sick, and every one of them was a Friday. I told her that what she did on Thursday nights was none of my business, it was her own business and that whatever it was it was obviously bad for her health.
        She never had another sick Friday for the next three years and is still a very valued employee, with another firm, commanding an above average salary. She is also a wonderful mother and particularly fine woman.

  Company was allowing it’s team members to have a drink / toilet break as required with no concerns. The employees started pushing for a 10 minute per 4 hour shift break for drink / toilet. The company pointed out that their allowance is already better than that and forcing that system will worsen their situation – are you idiots sure?

      The simplistic way to look at productivity is something like total output divided by total worker hours. If you replace workers with machines that number will obviously increase a lot.
      
      If you go into McDonalds now you will see fewer people on the counter and customers ordering on screens instead. That’s what Psycho Milt is calling a ‘productivity increase’. But it is not an increase in the value of the work done by the remaining workers.
      
      The people who actually build and program these automated processes tend not to be based in NZ, because other countries have more favourable tax and regulatory environments for business. That’s where the productivity gains are really happening.

    I concur. Once you get a “sickie” culture established in the workplace it is practically impossible to remove it. You need to root it out in the early stages when it is only one or two people. Best try local pubs and clubs as someone always knows someone or something, even if it costs you a beer or two. Interesting to find out who has a real unionised family and known troublemakers.   Just as it’s okay for white New Zealanders to have Maori names, though for them this seems less popular than it was a century ago, when “Rata” and “Rewi” were quite common names from non-Maori New Zealanders.
  
  “Mia” has been used as a name in the West since Latin times.
  
  “Maori” names in the top five also included Ariana and Nina.
  
  Both Ariana and Aria come from Latin and Greek times, when they were terms for what is roughly now Persia. Ariana Grande, the American singer, is of Italian descent. “Aria” goes back to Hebrew, Persian, and ancient Teutonic origins.
  
  “Nina” goes back to Ancient Greece, but is also a native name for the Quechua people of South America, and for Indian, Spanish, Slavic, and English people – at least.
  
  I find more interesting the sensible practice of many Chinese, who both retain their Chinese name and adopt a parallel English name for use in business or at work or socially.

  Yes I grew up in New Plymouth when it was a small city of 30,000. It’s now over 70,000 people. The region has been doing well with its bedrock industry of dairy farming and over the last decades energy. Unfortunately this government has declared war on oil and gas exploration so the energy sector is in turmoil. It doesn’t like dairy farming either so dairy farmers in Taranaki can expect no favours from this government.
  
  One does wonder who this government is supposed to represent? New Zealand first is supposed to be about the regions. Labour is supposed to be for the ordinary working person. The Greens are supposed to be about the environment. The fact of the matter is that labour and the Greens now represent the urban liberal who loves the countryside and loves the animals but doesn’t want to live there.
  
  There is an opportunity in the political landscape for a party or a person to represent the ordinary New Zealand worker, to encourage our manufacturing base, to encourage our energy sector and to focus on jobs and economic growth. This is what has happened in the United States and could easily happen here.
  
  The spectre of an out of touch government shafting the regions has not gone down well. We need alternative leaders that will present a new vision of prosperity for our nation and jobs for our workers.

Opposition MP’s have asked 40,000 written questions in 2018 with three MP’s contributing more than a quarter of the total figure and Duty Minister and Immigration Minister Iain Lee’s Galloway saying although the opposition has a important role in holding the Government to account the public would have valid concerns if public resources were being wasted on ” trival questions and fishing expeditions “. This Minister has the audacity and cheek to make comments like this when fact and lies are being hidden from the opposition in the case of the drug smuggler that he gave residency to until the opposition produce facts that it should not have happened, also they have still not come clean on what has happened or why Jacinda’s personal friends are and were involved. If any policy or case like this had the smell of corruption this is it and when a Minister like the duty Minister tries to make out it is trivial and resources were being wasted on fishing expeditions you know they are hiding even more.

  The reason for so many questions is the cute answers Ministers gave in their first few months. When questioned about who they may have had meetings with or received briefings from in a particular month, the Ministers insisted that was too broad a period, and asked for more specific questions.
  
  So they got them. Some of the questions were so specific that they asked Ministers to account for each hour of any given day, at one question per hour. The Ministers got what they asked for, now they’re complaining that the process has been abused. Oh dear; how sad; never mind. That’s what happens when you profess to be the “most open and transparent government ever” then play fast and loose with the truth.

The film, made from restored archival footage from Britain’s Imperial War Museum and the BBC, is up for the BAFTA documentary award.

The Heat

Global warming activists have a problem.

Their problem is that their team won the election. Their problem is that their team leader has named their cause as “this generations nuclear free moment”. Their problem is that they now have to act rather than talk.

Curiously, winning the election has lead to confusion amongst activists.

A couple of days ago, we had an opinion piece in Stuff calling on…. the opposition…. to act. We’ve seen similar confusing behaviour before, namely a Green MP protesting against herself.

It should be obvious, but if your side wins the election, then you get to set the rules. There is no need for chanting and protests and self-righteous editorial against National as National are not the government.

Like the dog that finally catches the car, winning can be a problem.

Many kiwis will virtue signal all day long about the climate. And why not? Talk is cheap. A light bulb here, a cotton bag there, nodding along to David Attenborough, feeling sorry for a turtle and supporting empty cycleways whilst driving beside one in a car. That’s all people need do to be “concerned about the planet” and reach a state of moral righteousness.

But governments create rules that force people to act.

“Saving the planet” involves sacrifice. Fuel prices must rise, as will the cost of living. Taxes must be increased. Consumption must be reigned in and most people are going to need to adjust to a diminished standard of living. Many of those who professed to be concerned about the planet might need to rethink their non-ironic trips in 747s.

It’s no longer a virtue signal, it’s virtue action. The trouble is, I don’t think the feelingz crowd do action.

Just recently, when fuel prices rose and the people shouted loudly in protest, did Adhern and the Greens remain on the stage and tell New Zealand about how good for the planet this was and to expect a lot more price rises in future? No. At the very first hurdle, Adhern caved faster than a Wellington working group off to lunch and the Greens were nowhere to be found, possibly in transit. Perhaps she was very concerned about that “nuclear moment” that’s even more important than saving the planet, namely Labour’s polling numbers.

We’ve seen what happened in France. Those protests against the rising cost of living won’t be lost on Labour. The reality is that virtue signalling in opposition is easy, but concrete action in government is hard. Climate virtue action is going to be deeply unpopular. It’s likely to sink the Greens below 5%, and swing voters will trebuchet to an opposition that promises an easier ride. Have the government got what it takes to be deeply unpopular? And for what? No change in temperature, just some virtue signalling to a half-empty UN auditorium.

It will be an interesting – and amusing – year. Stay resolute, National. Play to the virtue signallers but hold off on action. Virtue signalling turkeys will not vote themselves an early Christmas.

  I recall that James Shaw asked a question in Parliament about why the government did not welcome high petrol prices. The response was along the lines that it wasn’t fair. The best way to reduce transport emissions was to provide public transport and cycleways and nudge people out of their cars. Fat chance of that.
  
  Transport emissions will reduce as cars become more fuel efficient and there is a gradual increase in the take up of electric vehicles. And it will have nothing whatsoever to do with cycleways.

    Which is all fair enough, and I don’t begrudge Ardern her holiday break. But unlike the instances that you quote above, I know nothing about:
    a) is Ardern actually in the country?
    b) if not, and if a major emergency should occur during the current close-down, who will be running the country. Is Peters in charge? If he’s overseas by any chance, who is here who will be next in line? Lees-Galloway?

    Kirk was a bit of an enigma, but he distrusted academics as did his admirer, Rob Muldoon. His habit of shooting pigeons from his parliament office window was rather unusual for a man of his importance. Perhaps his unhappy marriage and poor health may have been a contributing factor. I would say that Norm was pretty much respected by many kiwis, unlike Jacinda who is merely a show horse.

    He had the highest regard for Bill Rowling and described him as the best PM work wise he had ever dealt with. Muldoon was an organisational disaster but the depended on the level of “juice” in his system.

  Someone else attempting to dredge up old stuff. Familiar writing style with false and misleading information. Some factual context:
  
  In 2015, Dermot Nottingham, aided by Earle McKinney, Marc Spring and Cameron Slater, started private prosecutions against APN Ltd, Lynn Prentice, Allied Press and myself. These were split into two proceedings, one in Auckland, one in Dunedin. Attempts were made to shut down websites and imprison, all rejected by courts.
  
  After delays and failures to comply with court requirements and law the Auckland cases (APN and Prentice) were dismissed during the trial, and and son after he withdrew the charges in Dunedin. Costs were subsequently awarded to all four ex-defendants, and these became part of bankruptcy proceedings against Nottingham by other ex-defendants in another failed private prosecution.
  
  Last September Nottingham was adjudged bankrupt owing about a quarter of a million dollars in court costs and with claimed debts of $2 million (in a statement of affairs that was largely unsupported by evidence of claims except for the court costs).
  
  Nottingham tried multiple appeals in all cases and failed to get anything overturned, accruing more court costs while insolvent.
  
  Also last year Nottingham was found guilty by a jury on multiple charges of breaches of non-publication orders (related to Lauda Finem) and five counts of criminal harassment.
  
  Much of this is documented in court decisions.

    This shows you have no idea how proper police work is undertaken. Scott Beard has a reputation for following where the evidence leads, unlike the village plods in PN.
    
    Here is detail from the “judgement”.
    
    [357] Mr Eaton also referred to other matters that had been raised by the defence at the trial, including:
    (a) There were a number of unidentified fingerprints at the scene as well
    as an unidentified footprint.
    
    (d) Scrapings taken from under the fingernails of both the deceased, after
    being analysed in 2014, were shown to contain the DNA of unknown
    males.
    (e) A number of fibres were found under the fingernails of both deceased.
    These were analysed and could not be attributed to Mr Lundy’s
    polo shirt.
    
    [358] All of these matters must have been rejected by the jury as not raising a
    reasonable doubt about Mr Lundy’s guilt. None of them are particularly cogent as an indicator of another person being responsible for the crime.

    Crime scene evidence shows Amber lying on her night dress concealing projectile blood that came from her mother. Defensive wounds to Christine show she was fighting off her attacker, and the cloth fiber and dna under her fingernails matched that under Amber’s fingernails, so this is what happened.
    
    When the lights went out the attacker knew everyone was in bed. I haven’t spotted a fresh NZ Royal Gala apple yet. Are they all being exported, are they rotting on the ground due lack of pickers or aren’t Royal Galas being grown any more?

As a deeply concerned citizen of NZ who professes little interest in the domestic affairs of the USA I am challenged by your refusal to ignore the predations of local Labour politicians & their enablers.

I refer of course to:

1) The queer bastard whose sick behaviour forced an innocent young man to hitch hike naked in Kilbirnie.

2) The well connected groper who preyed on stupefied teenagers at the Karangaheke youth camp a year or so back held to provide fresh meat to Labour’s hierarchy of perverts & fiddlers.

Won’t someone think of our children?

Just looking at the news after a busy day.
Stuffed has a write up on the trams proposed for Wellington that is hilarious -if it wasn’t going to be curtains for businesses and traffic flow!
Featuring a 6 meter wide pathway required for twin tracks, major carpark and lane losses, raised tracks by 1.5 metres cos Warming dont ya know , the $1.5 billion cost yeah right just ask Sydney about their trams project.

Meanwhile not a dogs show of a 2nd Mt Vic car tunnel and Basin flyover we are screaming for with Lester te ora Makariki Mayor and JulieBikeGenter pulling hard on the handbrake.

  I know it will be resisted by those that don’t care about other people’s money, but you’d think that there would be some way to ensure these projects had to go through some (legitimate) cost/benefit analysis, and meet some kind of threshold.
  The cycle ways business that is being imposed on us seems to be little more than some fools’ pet project.
  Same goes for the Hamilton/Auckland train.
  It’s our money they’re wasting, ffs.

From Australia: Most uni students get a job within months of finishing but some courses do better than others

The Federal Government surveyed more than 120,000 university graduates last year and found almost three-quarters had gained a job four months after leaving university. But there was wide variation between courses.

Summarising the rest of the article:

1. Full-time employment for:
– pharmacy graduates (97.2% in full-time employment after 4 months)
– medicine graduates (94.9%)
– graduates from the rehabilitation, dentistry, veterinary science and engineering fields.

2. Mixed bag for: science and mathematics (64.6% in full-time employment after 4 months).

3. Dole prospects for:
– creative arts graduates (52.2% in full-time employment after 4 months)
– graduates from the tourism, hospitality, personal services, sport and recreation (59.6%) and psychology (33%) fields.

So, in New Zealand, if you complete a gender studies course, or Cat Pause’s fat studies course, or something equally useless… it’s the dole queue for you!

How many weeks holiday does the PM get?
Hardly heard a peep for weeks. The rest of us wages slaves are back on the tools.
Not good enough, theres issues needing sorted in this nation.For example thousands of tonnes of coal are being imported from Indonesia to keep the lights on via Huntly power station. Next up is large scale imports of LNG from Oz will be required if new gas isnt found- which it wont be thanks to 2Pies ,PWCShaw to Rise and Cindykindergarten at UN.
People , its time to get active in rolling back the fantasy land lunatics in the Cabinet .
