      CJ : Phil Goff is more interested in building a waterfront Sports Stadium that looking after the shoddy infrastructure of the sewer network of Auckland City. The council and those that run it would rather use their compulsory money source to build things that they think will keep them in a job sucking on the gravy boat than up grade essential infrastructure.

        Sir Frank Kitts was mayor of Wellington for many years some time back, and also part of our whanau.
        He told me once it was much easier to get public support for flashy projects like new suburban swimming pools, libraries, than essential maintenance on grubby stuff like sewage systems that were out of sight except fot disruptive street works.

        It makes sense for the train to go where it is anticipated it will be of most use and judging by the number of people that seem to use the yellow airport buses most of the patrons don’t get on at the airport, but along the way.

    There is hardly any noticeable difference after rain. And I live on the coast, and swim every day in the Waitemata. I recall that is was much more obvious (on the North Shore) around 20 years ago. But hundreds of millions spent by Council in the late 90’s and early 2000’s basically fixed the problems on the Shore.

        There are currently around 10 million cattle beasts in New Zealand. Each of those beasts produces around twenty times the effluent volume of a human.
        
        We are therefore dumping effluent which is equivalent to 200 million people directly onto our rural land. Most farmers do a good job of protecting our rivers and waterways, but all of that shit has to go somewhere.

        Even worse the top dog in TVNZ has just been given a bonus of close to $500,000 what the fugh for. Wonder why he is now on a salary of circa $1,500,000.       ie since we had a National govt.. What is it now we have had a Labour “led” govt. since 2017.

They have said it is every NZer’s birthright to be able to swim in clean water, then the next sentence is too many cows are here.       I have written to a couple of MPs suggesting that NZ should, instead of sending hundreds of millions to some UN Climate Fund (or whatever it is called) it could simply spend it on fixing Auckland’s sewage issues ( “for the benefit of our grandchildren” as the Greens like to say).

        Have you read the article about river pollution that points out that E. coli is mainly due to the seagulls nesting/roosting along the lower reaches? The rivers are safe above these sites – but they are mostly on private land with limited public access.
        So the seagulls must accept their fair share of the blame for contamination, along with all the grubby humans.

  Safeswim is bullsh*t. In the rest of the country, Safe Swim shows the real result and the date, of the actual weekly testing, done by their councils as well as a predicted result. But , “In the Auckland region, water quality is predicted using modelled data. The predicted water quality results are regularly updated to give a ‘real-time’ result. ” So Safeswim shows you a new test every 15 minutes but that is predicted. They never show the actual test results. Water testing in Auckland appears to be only done monthly. It’s really not good enough. Auckland Council should show the predicted results AND the actual results just like other councils. Further here is a Council report on the success of the programme , measuring public awareness, behaviour change, and amount of times safeswim is mentioned in the media. So how do we know it’s not being used as a political tool. Show us the actual results.

      Thanks I’ve read the article. A number of beaches are closed. But they don’t show a link to the data . Auckland Council assigning water quality marks behind the scenes. And if you have a look on safeswim.org.nz you’ll see that the beach in the article, Okahu Bay supposedly black no swim last week – is green this morning?! If they don’t want people to be science deniers, and conspiracy theorists, then show us the data that backs up their ratings just like other council’s do.

  I actually did watch a bit of that slow tv on Prime yesterday and I must admit it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was almost hypnotic at times.
  
  It reminded me of Brian Eno’s “ambient music” – it’s minimal and is intended to blend in with an environment rather than be actively listened to (or watched in the case of slow tv).
  
  Even so – I wouldn’t support our taxpayer dollars going to such an enterprise either.

  The post production felt amateur-dynamic captions of white on a pale background are impossible to read.

    Every Kiwi should go to Milford Sound. It is stunningly beautiful. Even the drive-in is majestic. That is if you can move for the number of tourists who flood into this NZ tourist icon. All those people were out of place in such a serene setting.

  So, top of the agenda for when Parliament restarts, there should be bills tabled, so NZ can begin beheading maids in the streets, jailing and flogging of rape victims(that`s if they haven`t already been stoned to death).

TV1 news at 6pm told us that Donald Trump was in real trouble because he told his attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress. This is going to lead to impeachment, this is the bombshell. This is the end of Donald Trump. Right at the end the news reader said that the special counsel disputed the report.

Well actually the office of the special counsel had come out and said that the story was not accurate. In other words, more “fake news”. TV1 news knew this but still they could not stop themselves telling the story even though they knew it was not accurate.

That’s where we are now with our NZ media. They hate the American president so much that they will tell a negative story about him knowing all the time it wasn’t true!

We have to face facts. You cannot expect to get the truth from the NZ media. They are truly “fake news”.

  I have stopped using NZ media. With Stuff and the Herald in communist pockets, both foreign (CCP) and domestic (Labour), anything you read there will be slanted.
  
  Surprisingly, BBC and Reuters and other international news agencies provide far more in-depth and balanced articles. So different from the single paragraph summaries the Herald has. And I am surprised at the balance the BBC has on Trump. It is reasoned and well written.

      A good start with Radio New Zealand would be to allow/make it carry advertising. This would reduce the load on taxpayers.
      
      When the State set up the old Government radio system, radio broadcasting wasn’t that old, and transmission equipment was expensive.
      
      Now gear is cheap (and better) – far, far cheaper than newspaper printing equipment, for example. We don’t need the State to be in radio, except perhaps in shortwave to the Pacific for national propaganda, and perhaps running a leased AM channel (as now) to broadcast Parliamentary debate.
      
      Apart from Radio New Zealand, taxpayer money, or assets (in the form of frequency allocation) support fully or partly scores of other stations, from the 20 or so Maori tribal stations to the citizen-volunteer stations up and down the country. All these could easily operate as pseudo-stations on the internet at their own expense.

    History has shown repeatedly that talent is widespread. The “pay peanuts and get monkeys” is a con. Directors and executives, themselves on high payouts, benefit from the high salaries recommended by consultant firms. So they hire the firms.

        I haven’t any knowledge about Aus. and Trump. my understanding is that the 25% tariff imposed was withdrawn. I may be wrong about that. If it was withdrawn it shows that the Aussies have more clout somewhere in the USA system than we do.
        
        I have had some experience at upper level of government and know how personal impressions are propagated. Lange offended the US and it took years for them to re-establish some relations. Our present newbie govt should take extra care. Ideology is OK among friends but others may fence off further contact.
        
        State owned media are regarded as spokespersons for the govt. We may have a free ranging freedom here but that view is not necessarily shared by the world. These interpretations by officaldom are personal and subjective so it would be smart for Foreign affairs to watch out we do not damage possible trade relations through state owned media.
        
        Trump: He’s got the job for the time being. My view is that no matter who is Head of State in any country basic respect for the Office is required. We have to co-exist. We are all flawed.

There is a growing tendency for members of the metoo movement to act as self appointed arbiters of guilt. Their process is two decide whether an accusation falls into one of two categories:
1. Guilty as hell, undeserving of a trial and to be pillioried at every opprtunity or
2. Guilty as hell but insufficient evidence of guilt and therefore to be pillioried at every opportunity.

  They got holiday jobs and one even took a full time shift at a liquor store and ended his honours degree being the assistant manager.
  
  Staff in my office complaining how “hard” it was to own a house. Requirements…4 bedroom, near the beach, double garage plus at least 2 bathrooms with no “repairs” needed.
  
  At one stage we owned 6 houses and used them as investments for my kids and they contributed both money and labour.
  
  Can be done, takes hard work which many aren’t prepared to do.
  
  A young friend of my daughter in-law living in San Fran is getting a “makeover” for their home with a new kitchen bathrooms etc. Budget….$US350,000. They say it is an expensive city but they saved, worked hard and bought the house recently.

  When I was in Bali in 1998, I was walking on the beach with my girlfriend at Padang Bai. My girlfriend was in a bikini and a group of people waiting for a ferry to Lombok, mainly men, started shouting and spitting at us.       Yes you need all three. The Senate still has the Bill approved by the GOP Congress last year under consideration.
      I think they have some ability for amendment.
      Otherwise back to Congress for new Legislation.
      
      The GOP still needs 60 votes in the Senate to avoid a filibuster or using the ‘nuclear option’.
      But I read that if they force the Dems to filibuster, it might be possible to use the power the Chair of the Senate has to curtail how long each Senator can filibuster.
      When they give up a majority Vote would suffice.

    I have met many people who can be objectively described as loathsome, such as property developers who screw subbies as a standard business practice, men who brag about sexually assaulting women, and pathological liars, but most of them had some redeeming features. I am sure they were also loving fathers, caring and compassionate to others and probably loved their dogs, but it didn’t stop them from being the sort of person you would dislike in overall terms. I am sure there are many who find Trump loathsome, and others who are unabashed admirers. They are both right.
    
    As for suporting his policies, I support those I consider worthy and do not support those that I consider wrong. Anyone who thinks his policies are all right or all wrong is not thinking objectively.

      A few years ago, experienced that the place was burgled while a number of us were sleeping.
      Police were called early in morning, but as burglars were seen driving off in the early hours, the police just said, try not to touch anything, and did not come out until 5 days later, interviewed, and then wrote a report.
      Deep freeze emptied, tv, stereo, laptop, binoculars stolen. Taped then broke window, to access handles, and another window jemmied but not opened.
      The police are only being informed so insurance can be claimed based on the police report.
      
      Yet the burglars roamed about in the house, but not the bedrooms, where we were were sleeping. Fortunately we were not disturbed.
      Would things have become violent, if the burglars had been noticed earlier.
      Would one know if the next thing was the burglars would turn into violent home invaders? wanting keys, vehicles, valuables, wallets?
      
      Now at considerable cost, sort of increased security of the bedroom.
      I consider it disgusting to have to even consider this.
      
      What would mikenmildagain offer them?
      Would it be enough?
      Once burglars gone, then wait almost a week for the police?
      The worst part, nobody caught, and “they” are still out there.
      
      I do think that nasska will bring the police, well not that night, 🙂 but he will be able to sleep well, knowing that there will be armed guards all around his property, on his side roads, but not endangering themselves. When daylight, after the dogs are tied up, then the police will arrive for a welcome cup of coffee.

Ever been to the Bank of America? There’s a mural there. Some people might have visited BOA and laid their hands on that child who was their parents and grandparents.

Do you notice that the lines far above pierce the eclipsed sun? Why might that be?

If God is dead, why is it clear that so many bad people communicate and comport and act like he is alive, and use the symbols that refer to him as if they had meaning, effect, and power. The smartest people in the world, who have had to give up something each step down the left hand path, and those on the right hand path, who cannot communicate across the gulf in understanding.
  
  Anyway, don’t worry about it. It’s all going to be fine. Your sons are going to be made aware, and they will step onto that board which you float above or were oriented away from, and they are going to save this world.
  
  Strangely compelling words aren’t they. Something seems a bit different today then it used to doesn’t it. Things are moving at a strange pace. The old explanations and bywords seem hollow, don’t they. You feel this, don’t you, brother.
