  A person with conservative political views likely has conservative views generally, I think that DPF is being conservative around the use of his blog at a significant time and that’s OK with me.

    The moderation system is completely unfair to long term, reasonable KB supporters. I have always defended equal rights before the law for men, women, homosexuals, all ethnic groups.
    
    Only when it comes to *ideologies*, including religions, have I voiced criticism. Specifically against aspects that *do not support* equal rights before the law for men, women, homosexuals, all ethnic groups.
    
    See the difference: things we are born with and can’t chance vs. ideologies we can consider and choose.
    
    But several of my perfectly reasonable comments are sitting here for hours.
    
    I hope it’s just because it’s a slow Monday, not because the moderators have become immoderate!

      I have changed to using my name and linked a social media account which DPF said would avoid sitting in moderation but my comments don’t get through either, but what do we do?
      It’s DPF’s blog, he has been very good in the past and right now is being cautious for pretty good cause. It’s not only about the event in CHCH but also what has happened since.
      There is has been some OTT comments here over the years, it’s a case of the minority ruining it for the majority but if the majority had been more vigilant in upholding some suitable standards of self moderation things would be different now.

      There should be a category for those commenters who have not incurred penalties for their comments in the past, to not incur moderation.

  Perhaps they paid attention to the chapter in my email that referred to book burning by the Qin dynasty that included the burying alive of over 450 scholars and the burning of books by the Nazi’s. I pointed out to Whitcoulls what they had done was the modern day equivalent. Or perhaps someone in head office worked out the loss to the business by embarking on some woke crusade by some SJW marketing hipster millennial.

Why the fuck a CGT? The government wants more tax, it won’t grow the tax base meaningfully by taking a third of business owner’s profits (including farms). It needs to encourage the establishment of more businesses. And then there needs to be rental properties to house workers. An example: Queenstown is a fucking nightmare with its lack of rentals for workers and no plan to expand for businesses. So families pay a premium because house prices are jacked up artificially. Taxing businesses and landlords won’t solve the stranglehold on both businesses and houses. Elsewhere no other cities are encouraged to grow because who wants to reinvest in business with the prospect of being dinged with a 30% Rich Prick tax down the track. Stagnant wages and more of Marama Davidson’s divisive bleating awaits.

    If there’s one product that the West Coast has in abundance it has to be water – just think if we had a huge underwater pipeline to New South Wales we could have saved them that 2 billion or whatever for the desalination plant to supply Sydney.

  I think she makes a pretty good candidate for the NPP personally.
  
  It’s dialectical. She’s wearing the mantle of leadership pretty well. And the Muslim population worldwide (and in my community btw) are chorusing their thanks which goes a lot further to promoting world peace than any Miss Universe.
  I also have a strong belief she and Robertson will screw the economy through shilling for Socialism and short term thinking.

My partner was just saying he cant beleive how much Mike Hosking raves on about how fantastic Alfa Romeo’s are. He owned an Alfa 164 V6 a little while back and reckons it was the biggest load of crap he’d ever driven. Couldnt wait to get rid of it.

Our dear and compassionate leader has done well in the recent tumult. After all, it’s a fool who lets an emergency/disaster go to waste. She may be useless, but she’s no fool.

The long tail of misery coming out of Christchurch courtesy of the TV etc., hopefully, will come to a conclusion as this has been milked beyond forbearance now.

Now it’s back to business as usual, and the overwhelming uselessness of this government will be exposed.

Regarding immigrants and fitting in.

First as some of you may know, I am an immigrant (12 years in April).

Certain folk who are from my country of origin have also moved to this fair land. I have seen them asking about places of worship where their religious observations will be conducted in their particular language. I have also seen them asking about schooling that can be conducted entirely in their mother tongue.
When in a suburb where a lot of them live, listening to people talk, you would swear you were still in that country as you hear hardly any English.
When they go on holiday they will go as a group camping, and ignore anyone else.
They will complain about the violence in the old country (I agree, one of the reasons I left) and at the same time go on about how NZ needs to become more like the old country ?!?!?!?
They constantly go on with an attitude of being a “stranger in a strange land”, and never fitting into NZ culture

My response to them is one pretty much: You’re here, embrace the Kiwi culture or go back to where you came from.

The people I am talking about are “regte boere”. A certain subset of Afrikaaners(Afrikaans speaking White South African) who cling to the past as they form their caravans into laagers whenever they take over a campground.
Am I allowed to say the same to folk from other cultures as those from my own country of Origin?

(note: the above certainly does not apply to all South African expats, or even all Afrikaans expats, but one particular subset)

    Asian immigrants make very sure the next generation is highly successful, learning the language, excelling at school and university and treating others with respect and politeness.
    
    I find all the ones I know excellent citizens.
    
    That doesn’t mean I think we should keep filling NZ up with more people (from anywhere). The great thing about NZ is (was 🙁 in some places), having a bit of space and freedom and not overloading our infrastructures.

  Raphael, thank you for your sentiments. My wife, who has been an immigrant all her life (much like the Neil Diamond song) grew up and attended school in Durban. She like you often suffers from frustration reading the material some of them post in Facebook groups or over hearing their Afrikaan rantings in the supermarket. My wife has taken to using my line that I use to give to kiwis who had too much to say when I was living in England.
  She has turned it around to be (& all said in perfect Afrikaans):

I must say I have been impressed with the reaction over the past week. Our PM and her colleagues together with Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition have acted with dignity and decorum as has the citizens.

Yet again NZ has shown that it is the exemplar for what a multicultural multi ethnic multi religious modern country should look like.

Pity the UN and some its members who have taken pot shots at NZ in the past and who have worse than appalling track records in the areas wont recognise our example.

Still given their eyes and ears are painted on not surprising.

She says a couple of classes each week are held at the local mosque. “Are they for your Muslim students?” I asked her. “Well,” she said, “I think a couple are Muslim but the rest are Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, whatever. We just hold the classes at the mosque because it’s convenient for the students, and it’s free – they don’t charge us for the room.” Would they still make the space available if there were no Muslim students, I asked her. “I expect so – they’ve never shown any interest in where the students come from. They just support the idea of learning English.” This public-spirited attitude departs somewhat from the view expressed by many on this blog, that Muslim immigrants refuse to integrate into our society.

Me: What about my Ruger 10/22 with its currently legal 15 round magazine?

Police: The ruger 10/22 will be banned shortly due to its ability to accept a magazine of more than 10 rounds

Me: So let me get that right – The ruger 10/22 will be banned?

Police: It’s not banned yet, but it will be next week.

Me: But what about the police video where the policeman says that it is unaffected?

Police: That’s right, it’s not affected now, but it will be next week.

Me: Are you saying the 15 round magazine will be banned and a 10/22 with a 10 round magazine will be legal?

Police: No, both the rifle and magazine will be banned.

Me: What about the SKS rifle with its internal, non detachable magazine.

Police: The SKS will be banned as it is 7.62mm and they can be modified to have detachable magazines that hold more than 7 rounds

Me: What about the SKS’s with 5 round internal magazines?

Police: No those are banned too, because they can be modified.

Me: The Prime minister said that semi auto rimfire rifles are exempt due to their pest control status ?

Police: That’s right, but only if it is not capable of having a magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds

Me: But any rifle with a detachable magazine can potentially have more than 10 rounds?

Police: That’s right, there wont be many left.

I understand that currently only the Order of Council is in effect, this sort of BS that I expect from the police is worrying. The PM either lied or mislead the country if the Police are to be believed. What’s next?

And the supposition very easily can be substitution – of other agendas, like Marama Davidson’s.

As an aspect of the Inquiry the Prime Minister says will be held, and which Simon Bridges urges should have the gravity of a Royal Commission, I hope a special panel will examine the terrorist’s manifesto and with expert advice determine what is meme, internet culture, or trolling diversions to reveal if what remains confirms a European radicalisation as media report that the author claims.

It might help some people know where they stand – or lie (in Davidson’s case)

Am getting the feeling that there is trouble at the mill in the Beehive.
There appears to be a campaign around to denigrate Peters as too old and no longer of any real use. they are using his failure in Turkey to back that up.
Likewise it seems that Marama Davidson and Golrig Gharaman would prefer to not be in the Coalition at all but attacking from the outside – they are certainly making moves from within to be against – their natural position and Shaw is helpless to stop them – after all he has the baubles.
SLG is floundering after her stellar performance but she still only forming committees.
May we live in more interesting times.

Just spoke to ex work mate who went to the Hagley Park memorial in Christchurch.

He said it was awesome to be there,lots of positive vibes …………and then the performance started.

He last 20 minutes,told wife he would be in car,left and said he walked out with about 15 men and women,various races,just over being guilted for being white.

Funny thing was he said his wife appeared 15 mins later saying and I quote” what a lot of bullshit”

Seems any good intention can be overtaken by people with agendas.

        Soon enough it’ll be over to the House the begin the political part of the process.
        
        My bet is that they won’t impeach, too much risk there, but rather continue investigating and take that information to the voters ahead of 2020.

As a keen shooter with 2 now illegal firearms- which have never been used illegally or irresponsibly just shot at the range I would like to explain why we have these firearms which are designed for war
Itsthe same way that someone who likes
Cars might like a Ferrari but not ever drive at 200kph .
Semi auto rifles are miracles of engineering and lend themselves to range shooting – I have never used any illegal magazines because owning these firearms was a privilege and not to be abused
I never had a problem owing one in a country where shooting is a sport without any of that awful guns as defence culture
Now that has changed and I am registered to surrender them but I have never been a Rambo or a gun nut
I have dealt personally with mosque survivors at work this week and know something of the horrors they faced but as a gun owner I feel no guilt
I do however 100% support the changes

Didn’t anyone else this morning hear Simon Bridges on National Radio saying he would like the ‘Spearhead’ surveillance system (hope I remembered the name right) used from now on? Sounded like that would be much more intrusive and authoritarian than the system currently used.

It also sounded like he didn’t know much about it, calling himself a ‘layperson’.

Who knows more about this Spearhead system? Is National walking lock-step ahead into totalitarianism with the CoL now?

I think this is our number one issue now: increasing threats to our privacy and freedom of expression.

Ironically, if the NZ Stasi investigated me they wouldn’t find much – I’m not a racist and have always differentiated between moderate muslims and political islamists.

But the latter will soon be enough to have one labelled an ‘islamophobe’ and thus automatically a ‘racist’.

Could someone please tell me what the definsiton of rascism is?
I am an older white guy.
In my life I have had a a maori wife and a few maori girlfriends.
Some of my best friends were and still are Maori.
I like asian people as they are hard workers and do not cause violent crime.
But I am very upset with the lack of performance by Maori and their high crime rate.
But I am not keen on Indians and Africans coming here.
And I don’t think we should have any muslims here.
Just because our leaders let them in does not mean to say that I must like them, or buy from them, or give them a job, or rent my house to them.
So what is the definition of rascism, in today’s modern context?

    I think unfortunately that labeling something “Racist” happens too easily. It’s also a ploy used by students who want to get teachers to back down really fast. Often when telling off a kid for bad behavior a common response is “is it because I’m black, brown, pink, blue etc?”, and teachers being very wary of being labeled racist back down quickly. Racist speech is, as DPT correctly says, denigrating person or group based purely on their ethnicity (or race). Condemning a group for their actions is not racist. Thus we can condemn Nazis and Communists, but not Germans or Russians. There are some that argue that race is an artificial construct, and that is an interesting debate in its self.

      It’s not a new point-of-view as the Scientific American article shows.

      Some of us don’t recognise race… so perhaps folks should take a step back before labelling others as racists because they disagree with a point being made.

      I have often read on this blog comments to the effect that “it’s not racist to hate Muslims because Islan is not a race”.
      Indeed, the whole concept of racial differences is inherently flawed. So it might be better to use the terms bigotry or xenophobia instead when people’s attitudes to entire groups of people appears to be motivated by suspicion and hatred.

  It seems that everyone is unhappy to be funding the dole because the recipients are all lazy work-shy lowlifes. Maybe ‘all’ sort of overstates it a tiny bit. FWIW the dole is about 4% of government spending so it is not going to bankrupt the country.
  
  Farmers are hard workers and all that, but so many somehow manage to generate boo-all taxable income. They don’t often grizzle about waste of taxpayer funds because they don’t contribute a lot of them.
  
  However, it might be noted that the taxpayer is right there funding the m.bovis cull and it looks like there is a bill for the PSA thing too.
  
  It is not uncommon for farms to be geared up enough to produce minimal income with the payout coming as the tax-free capital gain on sale. No envy here – just saying that’s how it is. With the current rules it makes perfect sense. It has brought us to the odd position of having the dearest farmland in the world in terms of the financial yield.
  
  I get slapped about by my ag friends when I describe them as ‘land speculators who work hard fixing fences and chasing animals around’ 🙂

    Not that many years ago, at one of the corporates I did work for there was a chap who always had a nana nap at his desk around midday ish. For a bit of fun i’d pop in and move stuff around. He then took to snoozing in tthe “visitors chair” to make it hard for others to see what he was up to but I still had a bit of a laugh moving stuff, changing pens….nothing nasty.
    
    He died six months later from leukaemia.
    
    I have no appetite for “what’s in it for wynston” but I hope he uses what time he has left be it 5 or 50 years to enjoy life not “pay back” real or imagined slights.

There is an emailed letter doing the rounds taking the PM to task mostly about the gun issue and the use of Islamic prayers both in Parliament and in public with no consultation or regard for kiwis of other faiths (or no faith).
It occurred to me that this action by the Prime Minister ( presumably under the guidance of her influencers) is another example of so many on the left who just go that one step too far in their authoritarian zeal to “tell” people what to think.

With all the talk about nominating Jacinda Ardern for a Nobel Peace Prize – presumably based SOLELY on her response to the events in Christchurch – it occurred to me to wonder just what are the criteria for receiving the award.

From the Nobel Peace Prize website:

With regard to the Peace Prize, the will of Alfred Nobel stipulated that it was to be awarded to the person “who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”. Over the course of time the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded in recognition of many different kinds of peace work and concepts of peace.

In the earliest years of the Peace Prize – up to World War I – the prize was often awarded to pioneers of the organized peace movement. In the inter-war years, the focus shifted to active politicians who sought to promote international peace, stability and justice by means of diplomacy and international agreements, but prizes were also awarded for humanitarian work (Nansen, the League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).

Since World War II, the Peace Prize has principally been awarded to honour efforts in four main areas: arms control and disarmament, peace negotiation, democracy and human rights, and work aimed at creating a better organized and more peaceful world. In the 21st century the Nobel Committee has embraced efforts to limit the harm done by man-made climate change and threats to the environment as relevant to the Peace Prize.

Personally I would have thought it would be a bit of a stretch to consider Jacinda meeting any of these criteria. Possibly you could say that by reaching out to the Muslim community she has worked at “creating a better organized and more peaceful world”, but even this is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion.

Incidentally, there is also quite specific criteria for who can nominate someone for the prize.

    Gloriavale is a regular Christian community. They are more pious than many others but their interpretation of belief and separation from the world is not unusual. Their traditional behaviour is ancient.
    Most local Churches have their own “flavour” whether it be a an enthusiastic bunch of young spirit filled Christians or an older group of strong believers waiting to go home. Some Christian communities are very gay tolerant and others less so. Their is room for the differences.

  I have less of a problem with the police carrying arms than the stupid banning that has already happened. I was listening to Jacinda when she made the announcement banning the guns. It was almost like she was having mini orgasms each time she made a statement. Now when she starts prattling away on News Talk ZB, the off button gets used. There are calls for New Zealand to introduce hate speech laws.

The accused Christchurch gunman’s manifesto has been banned by the censor, reopening the debate on free speech versus hate speech.

Unlike countries such as Germany, New Zealand has no specific laws on hate speech.

Race and ethnic relations expert Paul Spoonley says that needs to change, and quickly.

“I don’t think we can delay, because if you delay, then the changes of something else occurring like the events of last week might be a possibility.”

He says we’ve been turning a blind eye to the issue for too long.

“We have been complacent and a little naive to think we were exempt from this. We need now to have a debate about what constitutes hate speech in New Zealand and we need to act upon that definition.”

Currently, hate speech is prohibited as part of the Human Rights Act.

Beginning last year, Germany introduced a law that forces social media sites to remove hate speech or face fines of around 50 million Euros.

  I did. As soon as the CoL won and started their socialist agenda, I knew the time was coming. They love European cities: overcrowded, public transport and apartment living the only option, CGT – on and on, any bad idea from Europe they are in love with. Including blasphemy laws (aka ‘hate speech’ laws, but let’s face what they are used as!).

  Those laws are very subjective: it depends on which way the wind is blowing and which way one is facing.
  Freedom is healthier than restraint.
  I have long catalogue of conduct and expressions I don’t like but civil society and neighbourlyness arising as a Christian compels me to respect others I may strongly disagree with.

Q: How do you have “high level talks” when it takes longer to get there and back, than the time you will spend talking?

She hopes to fix all those tensions between the 2 countries (paraphrasing TV1). (That SHE caused)
