As I sit in the midst of the newly formed, but temporary, “Lake District” of the West Coast, in the middle of my own private island, I thought I would step out and try to get Kiwiblog back on track – so here’s an update on my list of mis-achievements by our coalition government:-

– Eugenie Sage met with either a man from the EPA or a woman from the Ministry for Environment – not sure which – she should have gone to SpecSavers ! –

– Sage didn’t really blame the Overseas Investment Act for signing away rights to water, that was just a misunderstanding which was cleared up as soon as she read her copy of the act –

– And did she really mean to refer to hunters opposing her tahr cull as “cunters?” S’pose she must have, there was never an apology –

– Sage couldn’t blame John Key for the sale of Mount White station to a Czech National – It was her signature on the OIO documents –

– Acting PM WeeWinnie didn’t really select a NZ First Minister to be responsible for the inquiry into former NZ First candidate Wally Haumaha’s selection as deputy police commissioner, and then appoint one of Haumaha’s “bro’s” to head that inquiry – they just drew the names from the hat in the wrong order –

– and he didn’t really say that Shame Jones would chair Manea up at Opononi, just a slip of the tongue, surely –

– Tracey Martin didn’t really claim that Kingi had vouched for Haumaha 16 years ago on LinkedIn, 10 years before that LinkedIn function had even been invented – the “teen” was just a slip of the tongue – again –

– Clare Curran didn’t arrange a meeting with Carol Hirschfeld, that was just another unfortunate misunderstanding –

– Neither did she warn anybody away from attending a Parliamentary Select Committee – that was just an unfortunate misinterpretation –

– nor was she involved in a committee that she established not keeping minutes because they could be OIA’d – another misconstruction of the facts

– nor did she secretly hire Derek Handley as chief technology officer, and force the Government into paying out $107,000 to him whilst they did a re-think –

– and of course she didn’t really use her gmail account to keep information out of the public domain, she was always intending to make that public as soon as Melissa Lee found out about it –

– WeeWinnie didn’t attempt to sue Bill English & Co – the media misinterpreted that as well –

– and was WeeWinnie really in Fiji to celebrate our loss of the Fiji roading contract to the Chinese – did he plan his trip to coincide with the announcement, or was it just a mere coincidence –

– Cindy didn’t mean to say “A true mark of leadership is whether you front those mistakes“:- the camera was inadvertently rolling at the time –

– Cindy’s candidate for Northcote didn’t really claim to have earned an MBA, it’s just that his social media page forgot to mention that MBA actually stood for “Mega Bullshit Artist” –

– Cindy wasn’t solely responsible for burning 80,000kg of jet fuel so that she could get home in time to give the baybeee an evening meal, that plane just happened to be passing Nauru anyway – that baybeee was responsible for more greenhouse emissions before her first birthday than the average NZ family generates in their lifetime –

– and whilst Cindy did not seem to know the contents of the Tiriiiti at Waitangi, at least she was able to show her true talent the next morning cooking up fast food for all her bro’s –

– Cindy’s [deleted by DPF and you will be banned if you repeat] diary secretary Clicker Gay-ford didn’t really defend her cancelling appearances on two weekend current affairs programmes, he just knew better what he had forgotten to put in mummy’s diary –

– and for any acceptable reason for Richie Hardcore having to make contact with her on her private cell phone number, well he could only have accidentally stumbled over that number somewhere –

– and Cindy didn’t mean to be deliberately misleading by not mentioning she had already received Clare Curran’s resignation, she just hadn’t had sufficient time to get the spin doctors onto that story before going public –

– not to mention the PR company that she hired at (no doubt) enormous expense to catch baybeee photos whilst mummy and daddy were visiting the UN, I suppose there just wasn’t sufficient NZ media there to adequately capture her every move –

– suppose I should make some reference to the mother of our nation adopting the hijab as her head-dress, didn’t think Mormons were that way inclined –

– David Clark didn’t try to bribe a DHB Chairman, he was just being nice offering him alternate employment – and quickly if he kept his mouth shut –

– David Clark also didn’t really go on an overseas holiday the day before the nurses strike began, he just had to attend to a “secret mission” that coincidentally included the wife and kids –

– Ron (middle finger) Mark didn’t misuse military aircraft, they just happened to be misguidedly passing his back porch –

– and I don’t suppose this is one and the same Ron (middle finger) Mark who told a veterans group that they owed his party a vote for getting them funds – like really? –

– as an aside, could this possible be the same Ron (middle finger) Mark who was charged and convicted, for having sex with an underage girl, surely the press simply misreported that one –

– Tracey Martin didn’t deliberately avoid a meeting she had called with the 15 Oranga Tamariki CRF chairs, she had a “senior moment” that morning and forgot which hat she needed to put on –

– The government didn’t really try to short circuit the law for one of David Parker’s workmates, it was supposed to be koha for the local iwi –

– Angry Andy didn’t miscalculate the spending on his Criminal Justice Summit, it just happened that nobody told him that the “decadent gluten free chocolate brownie, pork apricot & thyme pastries and luxury pies were going to add $750,000 to the bill –

– and as for the $20,000+ temporary registration desk, can only wish Andy had phoned me for that, sure I could have managed to supply that complete with bikini clad clerks for half the price –

– one more – he didn’t really spend 29 million dollars on the attempt to re-enter Pike River “before Christmas” – oldest trick in the book that one, forgot to mention which Christmas – waiting, waiting, waiting – then having to ask for more money? –

– Labour didn’t supply booze to underage children, their caterer just made an unfortunate miscalculation –

– and it could not possibly have been them who instructed the IRS to collect voting intentions during a financial survey – just kicking the tyres before making a capital gains tax announcement? –

– Mega Fightery didn’t really lay hands on one of her staff, she was just practicing the Haka in her office when somebody’s face got in the way of her fists – again –

– JAG didn’t mean to be nasty about old white men – we just got all confused about her terminology – after all there’s probably an “old white man” at the helm of her daily flight to work, isn’t there ?

– And she didn’t really mean to award contracts to her husband without tender or scrutiny, you must realise that she was suffering baby brain at the time –

– Perhaps she was also suffering baby brain when she mooted the red meat tax – she didn’t mean to say that the government was considering this, or did she inadvertently pre-empt something?

– We didn’t really cancel oil and gas exploration – it’s just that we have found an ample supply of hot air in Wellington to compensate –

– Shame Jones was told his project feasibility study was a waste of money, but he unfortunately misread that and carried on regardless –

– and then the same Shame Jones who threatened to bollock a journalist who had reported on his conflicts of interest on the Manea trust –

– then pressured the SFO to go hard out on National over election donations –

– Jenny Marcroft didn’t attempt to bribe Mark Mitchell, Mitchell became confused and misunderstood what she said –

– did Cindy really mean to say that she had managed a small business? Wrapping the chips doesn’t qualify as “managing!” Maybe just a brain fart of the highest order –

– Cindy didn’t promise “no strikes on my watch” – that was just misreporting by TVNZ and should have been edited out –

– Similarly – she didn’t mean to say “no new taxes under Labour – but then the fuel taxes are mostly being applied by Councils anyway –

– Whilst on the subject of fuel taxes, just remember that the price of diesel fuel was about .93cpl on election eve 2017, let’s see whether Cindy’s enquiry into fuel price “gouging” does anything to bring down or freeze fuel prices –

– And she didn’t really mean to promise 1,000 new homes for maori – just forgot to mention that this wouldn’t be considered until after the KiwiFail target was reached –

– Nobody put their hand down a kiddies pants at the Labour Youth Camp, somebody was just brushing the ants off their tush – another unfortunate misunderstanding –

– Fail Twitford didn’t promise us 100,000 extra affordable new family homes – then have to re-define the term “year” – just another unfortunate miscalculation –

– Look out for Twitford re-defining the term “family home” in coming months, as much of the KiwiFail product seems to be bedsits and 1br apartments – and yes there’s more, a parking space will only cost you an extra $50,000 –

– and now that we have seen a “recalibration” of the KiwiFail targets, it chuffs me to think that, with inflation, the price of an “affordable” KiwiFail home will exceed one million dollars before the government gets half way through their programme – now that’s an “affordable” cock-up extraordinaire –

– Likewise, Twitford was just suffering brain fade when he telephoned his staff from an aircraft, then stood and moved around the aircraft whilst it was taxi-ing – the witness just misunderstood what he saw –

– Shame Jones didn’t really promise 100,000,000 trees per year, this was an unfortunate misassessment, and in any case he couldn’t control the autumn from hell –

– Paul Eagle didn’t attempt to bribe his local panel beater into committing insurance fraud – the poor panel beater unfortunately suffers from mistaken belief syndrome –

– and just when you think it can’t possibly get any worse, we introduce to you a Minister of Immigration who grants residency to a criminal illegal immigrant, currently in jail for drug smuggling –

This agglomeration of misfits, misunderstandings, false impressions, misreadings, miscalculations, blunders, muddles, misjudgements, misestimations, mistaken beliefs, slips of the tongue, distortions, recalibrations, revisions, misinterpretations, fuck ups, errors and mix-ups is beginning to get somewhat tedious. The maelstrom in the beehive is elevating to never before seen levels. The time has come for one or two heads to roll, followed by an abdication.

      Before making any judgements about the Crusaders- perhaps the Rugby Union should have a review of all the franchise names to see if they are suitable.
      The Highlanders brand, for example, is a highland warrior brandishing a sword and shield.
      Hurricanes kill people and cause damage and misery.
      Won’t go any further with The Chiefs as possibly won’t pass the censor – but look at their branding.
      The rugby union needs to be seen to be evenhanded when it comes to the use of images and concepts relating to team branding.

  Over the past year, you and many others have highlighted these corrupt practices within the current labour led coalition.
  
  Not once in that time not one of the many left trolls that frequent this blog have attempted to provide an alternate view of any of the many discretions detailed above.
  
  All they have done is insult those that either listed or supported the lister of those indiscretions.
  
  It is hard not to treat those trolls and indeed our government with utter contempt.

  Talking to my elderly dad yesterday who had a fairly minor operation in December at one of our wonderful hospitals. Dad is on the list for follow-up surgery and was told it would be July. His GP has now informed him that due to the young doctors’ strike dad’s surgery will be delayed another four months. Are the young doctors holding rolling strikes or is this the effect on the waiting lists from a 1 day strike?
  
  There are numerous vulnerable NZ’ers who don’t make a fuss and run to the government or the msm. The old adage that the squeaky wheel gets the oil comes to mind with many throwing their hands out whenever an opportunity arises. Cindy’s promise of “wellbeing” is not as easy to fulfil when it comes to the rubber hitting the road, or an old man requiring an operation.

    The junior doctors who belong to the RDA run by Deborah Powell had four rolling strikes over late January through to late February -8 days in total, two days each fortnight for that period of time … they are apparently in a ballot situation to see if they do a longer 4-5 day strike which initially, had been rumoured for the first week of the next school holiday …. many junior colleagues have no idea what they were striking for but the weather was lovely and 8 days off work who is complaining!!! Mrs Powell gets a $600k bonus on top of her eye watering seven figure salary if she achieves strike resolution … good luck with you dad! Btw, love you nom de plume (also from the tron!!) ?

      His mature GP said to dad that the young doctors’ won’t be successful with their strike action. He said his generation also tried asking for the same thing when he was a young doctor and got a resounding no.

The OCR has stayed put yesterday at 1.75. The economy is stagnating with a weaker house market. House prices in Auckland are going backwards, new car sales have slowed significantly and people are spending less. TV3 AM show are running a poll this morning on whether the country feels positive about the economy and it is currently running at
Optimistic 75%
Pessimistic 25%

  Oh dear perhaps Garner’s faithful should have listened to Espiner this morning interviewing Mr BERL himself about the global economic headwinds and the dilemma facing the Minister of Finance. Expectations for the next 6 months are not good, and expectations are for a rate cut in the coming months.
  
  Just shows, how views contrast based on media that want to sell a dream, versus those reporting whether Ardern’s dream is actually working.

    Maybe he could copy John Key and Bill English
    When they inherited a year old recession and a GFC and still orchestrated a “rock star” economy.
    Mr Roberson (the fat controller) inherited a growing economy and falling unemployment, tax cuts and surplus. Managing to turn all that around in just a few months.
    But they are trying to blame a future global financial slowdown (not GFC) for their policy failings and the economic position we now find ourselves in.
    They said they wanted to lead the world, well they do, lead the world….into recession.

  The value of a house is a matter of opinion, but debt is real.
  
  The lower (historically) interest rates go, the greater the change in interest payments even if the interest rate rises a couple of basis points.
  For example, if your mortage is 2%, but then goes to 3%, although the rate has only increased by 1 percentage point, the amount you will pay in interest will have increased by 50%.

  On the plus side, NZ Customs and Police have seized *hundreds of millions of dollars worth* of hard drugs being imported into the country, the latest being *190kg of cocaine* hidden in a container of bananas, with a street value of $235million.

  Give it 3-6 months this COL may wish they never had the job. The Reserve Bank seems to have been captured by the govt so economic prudence has been compromised.
  I hope I’m wrong. Excess credit creation has boosted asset prices globally but to what benefit? Production is falling and share buybacks have increased costs. Historically we are far removed from norms–I expect savers to be rewarded.

Some of us have had a great week!
Pres Trump was found by Robert Meuller to have not colluded with Russia. CNN and MSNBC hosts have gone into meltdown and literally cried on TV at the news.
Creepy porn lawyer and Trump hater Michael Avanetti is facing serious charges including attempted extortion of Nike!
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has doubled down on American support for Israel and called out anti-Zionists as the anti-Semites that they really are.
The Congressional veto against Trump failed and Trump now has $1 billion to continue construction of the much-needed border wall between America and Mexico.

It’s been a great week and it’s only Thursday! Now if we can only look forward to the Hurricanes defeating the Crusaders!? 🙂

    Christ may be okay as the Muslim’s do consider Jesus to be a Prophet. BUT as the Muslims consider the Christian Trinity (and the claim that Jesus IS God) to be blasphemous and heretical, I wonder how long it will be before basic Christian Theology gets banned for causing offense.

      It’s a fantastic pre-game show, especially at Scaffolding Stadium, where the horses are just a couple of metres from the crowd. Even the one-eyed Cantabrians can see them, they’re so close 😀

  Unfortunately Paulus you are quite right that indeed the name Christ does offend the Muslims. As indeed does the word church.
  So I understand that the coalition has a working party looking at removing all things in New Zealand life that may offend Muslims. Apparently all churches will have to be renamed as “religious cultural centres”.
  
  This is one of many changes that the working party is looking at. I can’t give too much away but if you are an investor then any local companies specialising in the making of the hijab might be worth a punt right now. 🙂

If anyone needed any further proof that the Political Elites are nothing more than self seeking self centred POS you only got to look at the UK House of Commons.

As I write these POS are voting on 8 options none of which carry out the will of the majority who voted to leave the EU in June 2016.

For the past 3 years these POS have played games of their own making ignoring the citizens.

One is minded of France in the late 18th Century and what became of the rulers of that time who ignored the will of people.

If civil unrest breaks out in the UK it will the direct fault of the 650 POS in the House of Commons.

There is a lesson for NZ citizens. Be very vigilante of our own 120. Dont give them an inch. Keep the foot of their throat and the blow torch down their Y fronts. And that includes the females.

Not sure where our immigration policy is going when someone comes to NZ and establishes a successful busines that employs a range of people and is told that they do not fit the criteria and have to leave when the grandson can find a lass who comes here on a visitor permit and is now on her third one year work permit without doing one days work and the staff tell them how to ensure that she gets residency. Does not seem right to me.

    Why would this criminal case be tried in the North Shore District Court when the pending charges relate to events alleged to have occurred in the Bay of Plenty?
    
    Is our criminal justice system moving away from criminal proceedings taking place in the vicinity / region in which offences are alleged to have occurred? Can we anticipate that these alleged criminal offences could be tried just as readily in Invercargill or Palmerston North?

  Sadly I was hoping this would happen, as it gives Ardern and Roberston bells ringing in their elephant room.
  Since they have been in power business confidence was going down, then recovered slightly now Its going downwards again.
  The article forget to mention the CGT plans which are aimed at business and farmers!
  And next weeks wage rise wont help businesses either.
  They can put prices up here in NZ so everyone can still afford to buy their latte.
  But our overseas customers will buy less.
  Or the exchange rate will have to come down.
  Which means our imports go up in price!
  Cars, phones, clothes, consumer goods, phones, imported groceries (most of our groceries now)

As a person who suffers from depression I find the Auckland Blues name offensive, please change it. I also have had family members in America killed by Hurricanes, so Wellington will need to change that name also. My wife who is half Maori, half Indian finds the Waikato Chiefs name offensive too, something about cultural appropriation and the like, so that will need to be sorted. And my ancestors were of Scottish decent, many of them were from a small coastal village outside Dunfermline who unfortunately were massacred by the Highlanders, whom used to come down to rape and pillage, as was told to me by my forebears, this name too will need to be rectified. And dont even start me on that time my foot was trodden on by one of those Brumbies, or the time I lost a blue cod on our southern coast to a Shark, those incidences are still far to raw…

    Anyone remember a grumpy old columnist fart from way back called Frank Haden? He called it a stone-age war dance.
    
    I can relate to that. I have to say I find it a bit odd some of the times it is trotted out as a greeting. If the Rugby Company want to use it as a lead-in to games, good on them. Marketing and all that.
    
    I do get a bit confused about how it seems to be a universally appropriate greeting for friendly visits. Particularly if an English translation was provided for the te reo ‘lyrics’.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says although Facebook’s moves to crack down on white nationalism were positive, it’s something the social media giant should have already been focusing on.

The whole of Melbourne’s train network came to a halt this morning disrupting *thousands* of commuters, when a passenger on a train called the Police to report a man acting suspically in one of the carriages.

Hundreds of armed cops rushed to the station, only to find it was a Busker carrying an instrument in his backpack.

Thank christ I’ve never used pubic transport in my entire life!

I don’t want to overstate the word interesting in this comment, because the question is interesting but really the commentary is as boring as…. what’s the most bring thing I’ve done??? …. spending a month planting flower bulbs.

Anyway….

Over at the Standard the question was raised, badly, that if Islam and Christianity are religions and not races, how can CHCH be a racial attack?

It is most certainly a religious attack especially defined by it occurring at a place of worship, but it hasn’t isolated immigrants, any race or sex. It was totally indiscriminate of anything about from faith.

That certainly puts an interesting lens on comments made by many since (me included) and wil have me thinking about things I and others have said.

Sorry if this is old news to you folk, I have thought plenty about the attack, and so much as been made of it, in the manifesto and in most comments that the target was immigrants and this location was picked because it was a place where immigrants meet, but perhaps not. Perhaps it was based on faith first and race, ethnicity etc second.

Shame the manifesto as been banned and we can’t read it further… ?‍♂️ (Then again we don’t want idiot copy cats reading it so it’s a good thing?… I need a drink)

Sure the son will carry it for the rest of his life but it was one of his FB followers who dobbed him in.

What were the police to do?

they probably checked the person reporting the lad and then the SM of the boy and Dad and possibly anyone linked to the boy and dad.
then possibly CI and the “black book knowledge” all detectives share for their area.

then they would have gone to the father.
They did all of that.

We really don’t have enough info.
As long as the police were impartial and procedural that’s all we can ask.

Lets not bag them.
