Like usual you get people when the going gets tough like Josie Pagani blame everybody except Labour for how it evenuated, but really what have Labour ever done except talk about fixing the problem.

She says David Parker launched a plan this week saying our infrastructure deficit means a deficit in Schools, Roads, Public Transport and housing so why have they not done something about it instead of talking because when David Parker talks about fixing things it takes years to reach Parliament to be passed into law and we end up with the same problem as we have today. The Coalition is all talk no substance and that is the first problem needing addressing.

  It is scary how stupid journalists can be. Same for Chris Laidlaw who was wailing about the trains.
  
  The freight train was derailed at the point where all the tracks converge at the station. It was then dragged along the tracks. No amount of rail upgrading can stop such an accident.
  
  If this accident had happened anywhere else in the world the result would have been the same. You don’t design your transport system to cope with a one in 30 year event. That’s why when it snows heavily in Christchurch the airport closes. You don’t invest in expensive machinery to clear the runways every five years.
  
  It’s time to take decisions on infrastructure out of the hands of politicians. At least in New Zealand. Otherwise you get people like Justin Lester wasting hundreds of millions of dollars. I’d rather take my chances with an Infrastructure Authority.

      there is a station at Kaiwharawhara which is closed. It is due to be reopened soon. this station would have made a perfect hub for all the affected lines to bus the short distance from there to Wellington, and could have been achieved with about 10-12 buses.

    There were sufficient incidents in Sydney that spending money to remove bottlenecks from the rail system is warranted. For example line A and line B would be kept as separate as possible so an issue on line A is unlikely to impact on line B.
    A very old example is the ‘flying junctions’ between Redfern and Sydney Central where tracks go over and under each other so several trains can pass through without getting in each others way.

    You have to understand that Chris Laidlaw is a descendant of the Confederate general, Stonewall Jackson. (He even named one of his children “Jackson”.)
    
    One of the smartest generals of the Civil War, like other Confederates, Jackson would have spent time overseeing his soldiers tearing up Union railway lines.
    
    If behaviour can come to be transmitted genetically, hostility to trains may have been inherited by Laidlaw. ?

        Face fact, Ardern was defeated twice in what was a safe Labour seat, even held by Judith Tizard . . . the only way she could get elected was to scrounge the safe seat of Clark when Shearer tossed in the towel.
        Little, once again, failed twice in New Plymouth, another safe Labour seat. He was not game to try another contested seat and is now just another list leech.

        It’s clear to me that a coalition of disparate lefties was cobbled together by Peters with few genuine objectives other than:
        a) to place ultimate political control and power in the hands of Peters himself; and
        b) to settle some longstanding grudges that Peters had with National, the Party which he once represented as an MP.
        
        Understanding the NZ electoral system is not a problem that I have, steffie. My problem is one of not trusting our Deputy PM, Peters. The great majority of NZ voters could reasonably have expected Peter to offer National first chance of forming a coalition government; but Peters was more interested in utu, and in disproportionate power for himself despite NZ First’s meagre 7.2% of the total 2017 vote.
        
        I suggest respectfully, steffie, that you might want to undertake some civics education to help you get your head around these constitutional subtleties that appear otherwise to leave you confused and mystified.

      Dear leader could then claim correctly Col had a majority.
      But that is not what happen.
      Labour only got a woeful 37% even after the Greens capitulated it was a total fail.
      It was not until labour sold its soul to the devil. Was a technical majority achieved.

    Until Nationla actually get off their arse and stand up for Kiwis I probably won’t be voting for them and probably a lot of “silent kiwis” too.
    backbenches for another term await Soiman and the other wets.
    
    That the media are against them is merely a force multiplyer, not a reason they are in opposition.
    Judith Collins is Past it and needs to go knitting.
    
    They way the COL and the Watermelons are behaving is dangerous for NZ.

        Exactly. The “Poles, Italians, Greeks, Eastern Jews” are all cultures with Western values (broadly, Judeo-Christian) and are not Islamic theocracies and/or failed socialist states. Furthermore, those 19th and 20th century immigrants came for free-market opportunities and to build a society, not to receive taxpayer handouts as bribes at the expense of the productive population. It was ‘sink or swim’ as there was no welfare state. Come (IF we need you), but bring skills and resources with you. No free-loaders please, because we have more than enough kiwis doing that already.
        
        If those at the US southern border would likely vote for free-market and smaller government policies, there would already be a wall that was visible from space. The Democrats KNOW that a wall would work, therefore they oppose it. The Democrats/Leftists have lost the moral and economic arguments, so they have to import people dumb enough to vote for their quasi-totalitarian welfare state ideas.
        
        Settlers forge nations out of nothing, whereas immigrants come to countries with existing infrastructure. Therefore, yours is is a false equivalency and is easily dismissed.
        
        The US/Canada/NZ/Australia made no bones about preferring those with outlooks typical of white people, and guess what: it worked. Multi-culturalism and diversity are NOT strengths. They are the opposite and are divisive. Look at the shitholes that London and Paris, and parts of Germany have become – empirical facts, not warm fuzzy utopian theories are the best guide.
        
        There is no successful example of diversity in history. It destroyed Rome, as the most prominent example. Homogeneous cultures are stronger than diverse and siloed communities with incompatible cultures living side by side.
        Nobody has asked for radical demographic engineering, and people are waking up to the nightmare that awaits us.

  Just look at our overloaded schools. The Ministry does minor incremental works, lots of thinking, try’s to put costs onto the school community and then my the time the build two new classrooms they need more.
  
  At or local school it took for ever for the Ministry to do anything, building work has hit delays of over 6 months and now the school has 30 more new entrants than they thought half way through the year
  
  With all the Ministry resources they don’t even seem to be able to trend student counts and align investments

  Every organisation has a “budget” and that includes governments.
  
  Organisations set priorities and when the government’s main priority is to get re-elected that’s where the money goes and this government knows they will be gone in 2020 unless they “spend” wisely on their core voter who just happens to be a non working beneficiary.
  
  Roads don’t matter, infrastructure doesn’t matter, targets don’t matter just an extra 13,000 beneficiaries plus a few votes from students…. Job done…. they think 😉

The Tommy Robinson news yesterday is disturbing. The difference between what he is accused of, and long established journalistic behaviours particularly from the English media is negligible.
The difference in accountability and punishment is staggering, one can only guess the motivators behind such a coordinated and incomprehensible scale.
You can hate the person, detest his politics and moral compass – but his treatment under the law, comparatively, should send shudders through any rational thinking person.

      I remember about 60 years ago my grandfather owned a few properties in Cobden St (I think that was the name of it) off K Road. Everyone sold up to the council or someone similar – it took them years to get him out of there and he was finally the last house standing. (he gave in in the end of course).

        As I said, when I spend time, not emigrate there.
        
        I’m not so rigid about all members being able to speak English before they get here as long as some can speak enough to get by and the rest put some effort into learning it.
        
        I would also prefer that they leave behind some of their “habits” and attitudes that turned their country into the shit hole they have to flee.

Saw this at Berlinale and was impressed. Agnieszka Holland created a strong historical drama, employing artistical license here an there. But the main points (different from what user-973-741969 claims in his review) are true. Blasphemy it is only to those who still worship Stalin. The movie follows political advisor/journalist Gareth Jones. After losing his job with the british foreign secretary in London he tries to reeignite his career through an interview with Stalin. And why not since he already interviewed Hitler and Goebbels (where the movie lazily unterplays his admiration for the pre-war-Nazis. Sadly Jones didn´t live to see their downfall and could never reevaluate his naivety). In Moscow, Jones contacts NYT-Reporter Duranty, who is well connected an a staunch supporter of Stalin. Jones doesnt make it to the Soviet Leader but can board a train south to inspect the industrialisation of the Soviet Union. But he escapes the agents that accompany him and travels on his own through Ukraine to witness the Holodomor, a famine that cost millions of lives as a result of Stalins communist reshaping of agriculture in 1933 and was until then mostly unheard of outside of the USSR – and even in the SU. Back in the west Jones has a hard time to prove his allegations. His camera was taken, Duranty, who has a much better reputation calls him a liar and even the british government doesn´t want to risk the lucrative economic relations with the USSR. Holland focuses only partly on the famine and more on the role of stalinist propaganda and the gullability of western media and politics, that swept this catastrophe under the rug for decades. It´s a thrilling movie that doesn´t have the budget to show millions of dead and instead focuses on intimate an gruesome details. The luxury of the elites (western & russian) in Moscow are in stark contrast to the suffering of the peasants. “Mr Jones” brings us to the beginning of worldwide propaganda and fake news strategies where a journalists live is cheap and the people are just pawns in hands of big powers.

  The Pulitzer Prize-winning Duranty wasn’t alone in being one of Stalin’s “useful idiots” from the West. George Bernard Shaw and H.G. Wells were others.

    The closest modern-day parallel is perhaps the apologists who seek to portray the Chinese dictatorship as a normal regime that we should treat with respect, even fawn over, if they deign to buy our cheap commodities.

    My partners mum has a sister living in the UK who collects all the memorabellia approved by the palace and her sister also has a number of contacts that ‘work within the walls’ so to speak. Some of the things we get to hear about from my partners aunt i dare not repeat of course.

Warning signs are emerging of a world crisis caused by the hundreds of billions of dollars China is lending Third World countries, reports the German publication, Der Spiegel.

China’s foreign assets are now worth $US6 trillion (about $NZ9.054 trillion), but outside of the government in Beijing, nobody knows much about where that money has been invested and conditions and risks attached. China doesn’t completely open its books to international organisations.

Spiegel says in part:

“There are initial indications of an approaching crisis. Pakistan was recently forced to apply for an emergency IMF loan because it was no longer able to service its massive Chinese debt load. In Sierra Leone, the government stopped the construction of an airport that China had intended to finance. “

When Labour accuse National of ‘nine years of neglect’, National should agree, and ask:
What exactly were the Labour Party doing while in Opposition?
What actual policies did they formulate and how effective have they proven now they are in the driving seat?
Apart from blowing the surplus left to them, and redesigning variuos wheels so they now resemble ill-balanced frisbees, how exactly did Labour use its nine years in Opposition?
They should ask, how much time and effort did Labour put into costing, testing, refining and designing their policies?
They should make the observation that it is true there were ‘nine years of neglect’.
Unfortunately, the atrocious handling of poverty, wage-claims, Health spending, their coalition partners, Kiwibuild, ‘captain’s calls’ (i.e. ‘making shit up on the post’) and virtue signalling, reactive, badly-thought-through legislation and theproliferation of ‘working groups’ to tell them what to do: Yes! 100 times.

This all points to ‘nine years of neglect’

Indians in NZ have an appalling record of mistreating their fellow countrymen, especially the new migrants, and especially when the restaurant owners and managers are in fact themselves new NZ residents.

I would suggest that nearly all instances of Indian restaurant workers being ripped-off or otherwise abused are due to Indian restaurant owners and managers.

Feel free to prove me wrong.

NZ Values are Judeo-Christian.

We should not be accepting anyone for residency who does not espouse and live by those values.

If their beliefs or behaviour doesn’t support and grow democracy, The rule of law, an independant judiciary, a free press, freedom of association and expression, free speech, habeas corpus. Then they should be allowed in to NZ, except as a visitor.

Those who don’t qualify.
1. Anyone who lives a corrupt lifestyle (learnt elsewhere).
2. Communist (anyone).
3. Fascist (anyone).
4. Muslim (especially those who want Sharia Law where they are).
