  It beggars belief that ILG took less than 60 mins to skim the file and runner stamp he could stay. It is almost like ILG had been shoulder tapped and told to give the poor drug smuggler another chance. In a crazy sort of way that is properly the preferable answer, otherwise, we are left with a complete idiot as a minister.

  I can’t believe Jacinda can stand there in an interview with a straight face and defend ILG and say
  “it was a complex case”.
  There was nothing complex about it, any person with 1/2 a brain would have decided in ten minutes after reading the summary that he was not fit to become a resident.
  Only other explanation is ILG was told to make that terrible decision and is now taking a lot of flak for it. Which means they owe ILG big time.

    Even if that didn’t pass the bullshit meter then the radio interview with the CEO of MBIE confirmed Arderns lie.
    
    That lie being the second of the day for Ardern , the first being the lie about negotiating with the businesses on Albert St , effected by the tunnelling works.
    
    The PM is a liar. a sexual abuse enabler and excuser , a light weight intellectually deficient person , an excuser of unethical and extortionist behaviour , a poor leader with limited understanding of her role and those under her , and less knowledge of what they’re doing on her behalf.

      I agree totally. It is scary how quickly and easily she lies in interviews. Someone (an interviewer) needs to pull her up on that when she lies.
      Her very first lie i think was at the leaders debates with Bill English when she said she had never lied in politics.

  It’s hardly fair that she imposes any discipline on ministers who happen to be members of her own party when we all know she’s powerless over Winston’s party members.
  
  In this worldview Curren’s only crime really was to transgress so early in the government’s term. If she’d kept her head down a few more months she’d have been in the clear.

This Stuff / DomPost article is right on the button and well worth a read. It questions the benefits of EV’s. The author is Martin Horicka a PhD student living in Slovakia.

I saw another article querying why plug-in hybrid vehicles are not very popular. The battery is far smaller than for an ordinary EV but is adequate for commuting or ‘shopping basket’ use. There is a petrol engine to operate the vehicle when it is out of range (ie a typical hybrid arrangement). The saving by having a smaller battery outweighs the cost of the petrol engine. The arrangement is more environmentally friendly than a pure EV.

  Are people who buy plug-in hybrids really using the plug-in part?
  
  I can understand people buying one for the eco-smugness and plugging it in every day during the first rush of ownership, especially for the dedicated fans that buy these things.
  
  But what about after a year of ownership by a Joe Average person? You know, that stage when you no longer wash your car every week and the new smell has finished. Are they really going to go to the bother of plugging in every day or are they just going to use it as a petrol car because that’s the easy option?
  
  I’m guessing that the easy option will win almost every time.

    Cost-benefit – if their arrangement at home makes it easy to plug it in, and they think they are saving money then they’ll continue. If they having to worry about extension leads or suchlike each time, not so much.

      Each time you plug in takes a small amount of time and more time to unplug again afterwards. Reward is maybe $2 – less than half a cup of coffee.
      
      Screaming kids, groceries needing unpacking, or just want a shower after work and relax.
      
      That’s going to end up in the too hard basket very soon.

        meh – most of us clean our teeth most of the time. That’s even more of a hassle, but for most of us it’s become a habit. I suspect that for many it would become the case for something like this too.

        The battery in a hybrid has far less capacity (and hence is much smaller) than in a pure EV. The three advantages of a hybrid are:
        1. Petrol engine is sized for average power requirement and hence is smaller and more economical.
        2. Engine either runs at optimum revs or does not run. Hence engine is more efficient and uses less fuel compared with ordinary engine.
        3. Regenerative braking is used, that is when braking the drive motors become generators and return the braking energy to the battery.

        Yes, I am aware a battery in a hybrid is smaller than in an EV. I was not talking about hybrid vs ICE, but hybrid vs Plug-In Hybrid.
        
        A Plug-in Hybrid normally has a bigger (heavier/more expensive)battery than a straight hybrid to extend the “EV-mode” range.
        
        PIH’s are sold as “crossover” vehicles; limited range EVs with automatic cross-over into hybrid for longer range.
        
        My argument is that unless it is super convenient (ie. zero effort), people will stop plugging in and just operate PIHs as normal hybrids, negating the “EV mode”.
        
        By the way, the regenerative braking is a bit over sold. It only harvests part of the braking energy. I have not done the numbers but I suspect it is around 30%. Granted that is better than nothing, but hardly a big source of power.

      At a fixed cruising speed there is usually no gain. If driven like a normal car on open road there is some gain, but the battery is such that a few km’s on hills and the charge is gone in battery only mode. The battery is only there as a buffer between the petrol engine and the constantly changing demands of everyday driving.
      
      The saving is created because the petrol engine runs at a fixed speeds to keep the battery charged, and stops the heavy fuel consumption of accelerating, depending on model recovering power by regenerative braking.
      
      Hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius are OK as a nana car or an annoyingly slow taxi, but they will save money. Drive any car sedately, and accelerate annoyingly slowly from the lights, and it will save fuel. The fact that you slow the traffic, increasing travel time for everyone else, is usually of no concern for most Prius drivers.
      
      If you have nothing important to do or nowhere important to go, and time is in abundance, you can save fuel even without a hybrid.
      
      Vehicles like the BMW 330e hybrid combine economy and performance, and get you to where you need to go in style, comfort, and promptness.

    In UK, plug-in hybrids get the same purchasing incentives as pure EV’s and many were sold as fleet vehicles. However in many cases the charging leads had apparently never been removed from the original packaging. Presumably there was no provision for employees to plug them in at work and if taken home there was probably no readily accessible outlet to charge them up.

      Most PIHs have an EV-mode range of 40km or so.
      
      A charging session using electricity instead of the petrol-driven hybrid is unlikely to save you more than $2 or so. Huge chore for not much gain.
      
      Meh, just use it as a vanilla hybrid.

  EVs are basically toys. Albeit very expensive toys.
  Word on the street is that some crims and boy racers were interested in them because the accelaration from the lights is great but they are no good for running from the cops or other crims. So not the cars (toys) of choice for stealing.

    History would suggest otherwise.
    
    First electric cars (Proof of concept) predate the age of aviation by about 70 years (Circa 1830’s)
    
    It’s taken well over 180 years to get to now, and we’re not satisfied with the now.
    
    By comparison the ICE engines arrived about 40 years after EVs.

    Engineering is remarkable, but unfortunately you misunderstand the challenges involved.
    
    The major revolutions in planes happened a long time ago. There have been no effective developments in military aircraft in the last 20 years. The C130 is 65 years old, A-10 Warthog is 47 years old, F16 is 45 years old. 747 is 50 years old. There have been very few big efficiency improvements since.
    
    Cars are already pretty much hard up against the laws of physics. They are already running at close to maximum possible theoretical efficiency. Indeed, the Model T fuel consumption was not much worse than that of a modern car. There is no way to double the efficiency of batteries, the electric grid, motors or anything like that. 5 or 10% would be HUGE. That is not enough to be a game changer.
    
    About the only room for movement in vehicles is in build price and there we’re getting hard up to energy costs.

  They’ve been doing this in Tauranga too…. very dangerous in my view, especially to cyclists. Long stretch of wide road, suddenly you come across a low concrete protrusion pushing it’s way towards the center of the road.

Earlier this wee i posted here that my partner asked an interesting question: “Should the type of person who commutes by train from say The Hutt Valley or Porirua into Central Wellington, be responsible for deciding who, or who should not, be allowed to stay in our country?”

Well this morning, when being interviewed by Katie on 1ZB about ILG and the Schroubek fiasco, Aussie said this: “Of course the buck stops with the Minister. You can not expect those who work 9 till 5, on the minimum wage, to take responsibility for these decisions”

    Except part of the overpaid Billion Dollars amounted to $250,000,000 (Two hundred and Fifty Million Dollars) of taxpayers money was handed out by the Peters selected NZF/LABOUR/GREENS ,in a very short time. They work on the principal. if an unmarried solo mum dosn’t have to name the dad as that would cause hurty feelings. So free money handouts by WINZ is a given . All to make sure that double or treble dipping by some of the beneficiaries,will not be a criminal act. Ask the Labour MP Sepulomi she knows how the scam works. Only problem is she wont talk about it. Seems somewhere in her background to talk about it, would reveal just maybe a conflict of interest or even association.Aint that the truth.

Look at these figures: Visa charges 13.50%, overdrafts are charged at 15% secured and 19.50 unsecured, so on whose side is the Reserve Bank on do you think? I am sure the bankers are praying for negative rates to come.

    Credit cards are unsecured small scale loans and have significant costs associated with reclaiming any unpaid balances. Banks don’t make a huge profit from cards overall, tidy, but not huge. And they actually give away some of what they make from slow payers because they pay the retailer (or who ever sold the item) payment before they get the money from even the smart users who pay on time. You can get up to 6 weeks interest free “loans” if you time your purchases right.
    
    Apparently most users always (or effectively always) pay on time and pay no interest, but a smallish minority don’t and pay significant interest charges regularly.
    
    That overdraft rate sounds awfully high though, for secured money. You do pay extra to have an “on demand” loan. You can (if you have the asset backing) have a rotating credit account, so your mortgage for example goes into that account – your always way overdrawn (!) but typically you pay about 1% more than a conventional mortgage interest rate.

Experienced analysts says that Durham is a serious person who would only ask for more agents and resources if he had found evidence of wrong doing.
  
  What this means is that the perpetrators of the Trump / Russia hoax will finally be exposed and their spying and leaking and collusion with Russia and the Ukraine. Brennan, Clapper, Comey are all in serious legal jeopardy.

  Further on this issue Joe Biden is in trouble. According to reporting by Fox news John Solomon, his son Hunter Biden received payments of over $100,000 a month from the Ukraine. American investigators were on the case with Ukrainian investigators months before the Trump phone call. There were serious concerns about corruption, so serious that even the Ukraine wanted to investigate.
  
  So the real story appears to revolve around why did hunter Biden receive huge payments from the Ukraine? He had no experience in energy or the Ukraine. But his father was the vice president of the USA responsible for dealing with the Ukraine.

However if the England France game is cancelled, all that changes is the points awarded, not the positions in the table. The same is true of the NZ/Italy game. How can anyone call this Government professional, progressive and helping build a fairer and better Country with just about everything they touch ends in “Failure”. You have failures in Housing, Transport, Health ,Immigration, Police and crime with all Ministers forgetting their promises when things go wrong like Kiwibuild, less Immigration, no deficits in Health budgets,more Police and less crime, to all blame it on the previous Government after being in power for over two years. Can anyone remember any Government that has been this incompetent in the history of NZ Politics.

I was thinking that the Government might want to accelerate some infrastructure spending as a result of the large surplus. The easiest way would be to activate the dozen major roading projects that are designed, and in some cases consented, and ready to go.

IMHO the funding of a political party no matter how should be declared.

In particular loans from a company or trust structure should include the terms of the loans and the names of the Directors or Trustees.

Funding ‘in kind” must also be disclosed with the names of the individuals concerned.

This is to comply with the good governance principles of transparency and disclosure.

Yes yes I know we all laugh at Cindy about her statements but the bottom line is voters have a right to this information and politicians have a responsibility to declare it.

Its up to we the voters to keep applying pressure until it is revealed.

  1. All journalists, reporters, editors, commentators, columnists and “comedians” in all media reporting or commenting on politics and economics must declare party membership/affiliation and who they voted for in the last two elections.

The Treaty has been changed, by legislation, into this “partnership” concept, without the consent of the vast majority of the population. The population has been conned into believing that various legislation (and local councils with Maori wards) are just confirming “partnership”, where in fact it is creating one.

The Court of Appeal said: “… the Treaty created an enduring relationship of a fiduciary nature akin to a partnership, each party accepting a positive duty to act in good faith, fairly, reasonably and honourably towards the other”. (1993)

“Akin” is “Like”, but not the same. You say a mandarin is like a tangelo, you don’t say it is the same as a tangelo.

Remember the outcry from some because a civil union was “like” a marriage, but not a marriage. The law was changed so that gays could get married. That is, civil union was recognised as NOT the same thing as marriage. In the same way the Treaty is not a partnership.

The Court of Appeal saying “each party accepting a positive duty to act in good faith, fairly, reasonably and honourably towards the other…” I’m not sure that has happened on the Maori side. “Full and Final” seems to be for the present season only. Throughout Polynesia trickery is culturally acceptable. I have a feeling Pakeha have been played as suckers. I have encountered that too with another closely linked ethnic group.
  The younger people not attached to their individual tribal roots are seeking more too. We may have to look at a contrary “development charge” to redress the balance.

I live in the Rodney area of Auckland, and am completely reliant on rainwater – as are several other Kiwibloggers. In 12 years I’ve only ever had to buy water once, and that was mainly so I could top up a fishpond on my property – if it wasn’t for that I would have been able to cope.

No idea what my water usage is per year, but according to one site I found the average person in NZ uses 227 litres per day. With three people in my house that works out to just under 3 million litres in 12 years. When I bought the water I think it was 11,000 litres – in other words, in 12 years my tanks have supplied 99.6% of my household needs.

For instance, in Goal 4, Agenda 2030 demands the indoctrination of all children worldwide, with kids described in the agreement as “critical agents of change” who will rely on the Sustainable Development Goals to “channel their infinite capacities for activism into the creation of a better world.” Indeed, children worldwide must be so thoroughly indoctrinated that they will not just submit to the UN ideology known as “sustainable development,” but actually go out and “promote” it. “By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles,” Goal 4 explains, adding that children must also be indoctrinated into “global citizenship” and the UN’s perverse view of “human rights”

Effective execution of AGENDA 21 will require a profound reorientation of all human society, unlike anything the world has ever experienced — a major shift in the priorities of both governments and individuals and an unprecedented redeployment of human and financial resources,” continues the document. “This shift will demand that a concern for the environmental consequences of every human action be integrated into individual and collective decision-making at every level…. There are specific actions which are intended to be undertaken by multinational corporations and entrepreneurs, by financial institutions and individual investors, by high-tech companies and indigenous people, by workers and labor unions, by farmers and consumers, by students and schools, by governments and legislators, by scientists, by women, by children — in short, by every person on Earth.”

Paris Agreement
In Agenda 2030, Goal 13 is: “Take urgent action to combat climate change.” The targets under Goal 13 include more climate indoctrination of children, trillions of dollars in wealth redistribution from the poor and middle class in the West to the kleptocrats ruling Third World countries, and more. The UN agreement also touts the UN “Framework Convention on Climate Change” (UNFCCC) as “the primary international, intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change.” And for now, at least, the Paris Agreement, negotiated at the UNFCCC event in Paris is the primary mechanism to make that happen.

That is both good news and bad news for those who oppose the UN’s scheming. In the final weeks of 2015, the UN and its member governments … sign the Paris Agreement. … All of it was done under the guise of stopping global temperatures from rising more than two degrees over pre-industrial levels, as if the UN had any idea how temperatures would be affected. In the real world, the UN and its climate prophecies have been wildly and consistently wrong.

Among the radical goals of the agreement was the restructuring of the global economy, as multiple UN bigwigs explained publicly. The goal of the climate negotiations was to “intentionally transform the economic development model, for the first time in human history,” said then-UN climate czarina Christiana Figueres, echoing a phrase she used repeatedly over a period of years. Also on the agenda was phasing out cheap and abundant energy over the coming decades, … Another key component: redistributing the wealth of Western taxpayers to Third World regimes and the UN. And finally, the deal sought to empower the UN to oversee a planetary “climate” regime with jurisdiction over emissions of carbon dioxide — in other words, power over everything, as even human breathing releases CO2.

The most frightening aspect of all this can be summarised as:

a. Indoctrinate all children worldwide so thoroughly that they will not just submit to the UN ideology of sustainable development, but actually go out and “promote” it.

b. Make trillions of dollars in wealth redistribution from the poor and middle class in the West the rulers of Third World countries.

c. Intentionally transform the whole-World economic development model and phase out cheap and abundant energy.

d. Empower the UN to oversee a planetary “climate” regime with jurisdiction over all emissions of carbon dioxide — in other words, power over everything.

If all this comes to pass, the Western World as we know it will be gone. Note that I said the ‘Western World’ – because ultimately the price will be paid by European and Judaeo-Christian nations. It is incumbent on concerned New Zealanders to push back against this movement, and to fight the climate emergency hysteria. I don’t have, unfortunately, any suggestions as to how this push-back might take place since the media is totally in thrall to the Globalists. The only hope that I see is the evident common-sense being portrayed by the Australia government and the views of broadcasters like Bolt, Kenny and Credlin.

I couldn’t believe my ears. Is Jessie Mulligan the most ill informed, woke, lefty ever? He commented after a news report stating that some of the rugby games in the world cup have to be canceled due to a typhoon heading towards Japan that “if the cancellation of rugby games doesn’t make people sit up and take notice of global warming I don’t know what will”, or words to that effect. Is the guy a half wit? Hasn’t Japan had typhoons since time immemorial? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with global warming. I am beyond exasperation with these morons in charge of the air waves.

* A professor who was born and raised in Timaru born has made a major breakthrough in the battle against cancer by using gene-editing technology to eliminate cervical cancer in mice.

Professor Nigel McMillan, who is now based at the Menzies Health Institute in Queensland, said it is the first cure for any cancer using the technology.

“It’s been a nice breakthrough. We’re using technology called gene editing or CRISPR. This technology allows us to attack cancer at its very source – the genes themselves,” McMillan said.*

This is damning, shine should not have any involvement with domestic violence.

* Newshub has been leaked documents following Shine’s recent internal hui which suggests staff are concerned about a culture of bullying, racism and fat-shaming within the workplace.

Shine stands for Safer Homes in New Zealand Everyday. It helps thousands of Kiwi families a year through domestic violence, and receives $2 million in government funding.

But a document leaked to Newshub contains damning feedback to management from some of Shine’s fifty personnel.

It suggests they “promote racism within staff”, that there is a lack of “basic respect” and there are “violent women putting down women”.

Other issues listed in the 37 page document include “fat-shaming” staff who are overweight.

A source has told Newshub one manager has publicly told the office “it’s an unhealthy and unprofessional look in the community” to be “big”.

  Women’s refuge workers have been bullying eachother (and inmates) for decades.
  Its just in the past it got covered up better.
  Shine sounds better than the Dunedin refuge recently in the news, btw.
  Most of the workers are wonderful people…its just that in this country especially, bullies tend to end up in charge.
  And female bullies have no loyalty to other women.
  They need to include a few nice men in the running of refuges.
  But that might not gel with the anti-male rhetoric…..

Former Air New Zealand CEO Christopher Luxon has put his hat in the ring to become National’s candidate for the controversial seat of Botany – independent MP Jami-Lee Ross’ current electorate.

Mr Luxon told 1 NEWS political editor Jessica Mutch McKay he would be putting his candidate nomination to the National Party for the electorate of Botany, and that he looked forward “to the robust democratic selection process ahead with the local membership”.

Despite not living in Botany, Mr Luxon said he grew up in the electorate and still has family ties there.

1 NEWS understands about 60 National Party members will decide on the Botany candidate.

The confirmation comes after Mr Luxon announced his resignation from Air NZ in June – sparking a flurry of speculation of his political intentions.
