    Yep England were very good. Great play actually. Not 10 man rugby but inventive, skilled and hungry. Cant complain if you lose to such a team. NZ will have to improve.

      For me the “spectacle” of the game, any game, is being adversely impacted by the “rush defense” where it seem to me the defenders are pretty much offside at every breakdown.
      
      In my opinion England were offside the whole game yet were never penalised for it. When the back line has to pass so deep in their attacking line to avoid the opposition players there is something wrong.
      
      Many overseas commentators complain about what our flankers get up to on the ground and in the rucks but when almost as many opposition players waiting for a pass as your own team then that surely needs looking at and commenting on.
      
      I thought the Wales France game was also affected but possibly more by the Welsh than the French.
      
      However, while that impacted on the AB’s game plan their defensive pattern could not cope with hard running big boys who were very skillful with ball in hand.
      
      An exciting game with a poor outcome for AB fans.

        There needs to be a 10 metre rule, like in league. Last foot was fine in the days before forwards spread across the field rather than being committed to the ruck. Now its like league, but with 2 extra guys and no 10 metre rule.

    +1 we are forever seeing coaches and captains of international sports teams, gracious on defeat, friendly and full of compliments for the winning team.
    
    When the ABs lose it’s so often misery and calamity, and this means something is WRONG, and woe is us, and just us, us, us, us, us. It’s cringeworthy.
    
    I was very pleased to see Hanson unequivocal in his praise of England, it was just the right thing to say and it reflected well on him and the ABs and by extension NZ.

Much more information emerging about the lorry deaths in the UK. Like – the lorry was in a convoy of three, Chinese ‘snakeheads’ involved, some families have been refunded the huge amounts of money paid, locals say they have been notifying authorities for years, efficient transfer arrangements from containers to mini vans for onward movements, why refrigerated containers are used to stymie thermal cameras. Seems likely the driver knew exactly what was going on.

    A good high profile win by a national team is, not surprisingly, a genuine boost to the incumbent government. Good for Boris I suppose, especially if they go on and win the cup so there’s a real bright side there.
    A bit complicated in their case. I guess Wales England first and second would be the best result for Boris and enhances self belief, national pride and the idea that the UK can take on the world and win.

We seem, as a nation, to be coping better with last night’s defeat than previous Rugby World Cup exits. England was easily the better team last night, and we were comprehensively outplayed and outcoached. I think the biggest loser in all of this will be Ian Foster, whose chances of becoming All Black head coach have taken a dive.

Still, there’s a bright side. At least Winston Peters won’t have to agonise over whether he stays in Japan for the final!

  It’s still true that the pack decides who wins a game and then the backs decide by how much.
  
  For the past decade you lot had the best lock partnership and the best back row, it’s clear that England can now claim those distinctions.
  
  I said here after last week that Curry and Underhill would win the game if they could beat Savea and Cane and was surprised that Hansen seemed to concede that battle by selecting Barrett at 6 to try to stifle England’s lineout ball. I think I saw Itoje called the “new Martin Johnson” somewhere, which is clearly not true, Lawes is providing the hard bastard component that MJ brought.

Controversy erupted in parliament today as the leader of the opposition was instructed to leave the chamber.

This followed a heated exchange with the Prime Minister in question time where Simon Bridges had asked the Prime Minister about the failure of the All Blacks to win the 2019 Rugby World cup.

The Prime Minister denied all prior knowledge of the event, stating that she initially thought it was a fault with the Spark Sport app when the All blacks failed to take to the field against the Springboks for the final on 2 November.

“Nobody advised me.” she said “I was absolutely positively devastated to find out they weren’t playing.”

Under closer questioning from the leader of the opposition she admitted that she thought the white uniforms of England were a Silver Uniform thought up by the Minister of Sport for the occasion. “I really thought Grant had tried to surprise me.”

She further advised that her government would be convening a working group to examine the matter, which was due to report back by 2025.

“This is more than the National party has ever done.”

When the leader of the opposition pointed out that the All Blacks had won two consecutive tournaments under the previous National government the speaker intervened, sternly admonishing him that he had not sought leave to introduce facts into the chamber, that facts would not be under any circumstances allowed into the chamber and instructing him to leave the chamber.

The Minister for Sport, Grant Robinson, later told the press he was comfortable both with the All Blacks losing in the Semi-Final and with when the Prime Minister found out.

Newshub has obtained documents showing officials scratching their heads over exactly what the government wants to achieve with Auckland light rail.
Briefings over a series of months show officials begging Transport Minister Phil Twyford to provide them with direction over the rail project so they can move it forward

Twyford wouldn’t be interviewed over these briefings. On Thursday he placed the blame for delays squarely at officials feet.
“They dropped the ball and didn’t do the job that they were asked to do,” he told Newshub. [1]

The screw-up that is Kiwibuild should have been all the warning Ardern needed.
But on this issue she agrees with Twyford

The Prime Minister said it has been “been widely acknowledged now, they didn’t properly assess the second proposal… We owe it to taxpayers to have done that job properly, so we are”.
She added, “Do I have an expectation that agencies follow through on Cabinet decisions? Yes, but they didn’t, and we’re fixing it.”

Twyford said Cabinet asked NZTA to consider both the NZ Infra-Super Fund unsolicited proposal and look at other options, but they didn’t, so Cabinet has now given the responsibility to Treasury and the Ministry of Transport. [2]

Yep. It seems another party will now look at it all.
It’s a bit like damning one inquiry into Labour sexual impropriety, saying it was inappropriate process, and then immediately setting up another agency to do exactly the same inquiry.

As endlessly quoted – Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

I used to be indecisive, but now I just don’t know.

Way too soon to diss the ‘year of delivery’. Still two months to go, and 8 weeks is a long time in politics. Or something.

Meantime, there will be a huge amount of time and effort going in to creating a loooong loooong list of 2019 deliveries. No matter that most have never been heard of before, or that certain non-deliveries won’t be mentioned at all.

Beaten twice by Ireland; hammered by a pretty ordinary Australia team; drew with South Africa & now well beaten by England.

Is it a Treaty principle that all Government departments should use Maori wording to indicate what they are and what they purport to do?

For example, the Pike River Recovery Agency, or Te Kahui Whakamana Rua Tekau ma Iwa – ‘The Empowering Voice for the Pike 29’ – which Google Translate mangles as meaning “Twelfth Judiciary Committee” when the Maori pasted-in has macrons, or “The Twenty-ninth Tribe”, without macrons.

And of agriculture emissions – Ms Ardern said the ‘He Waka Eke Noa’ deal was about creating change that “will stick”.

He waka eke noa – a whakatauki, or proverbial saying : the canoe which we are all in without exception

But – New Zealand farmers won’t have to enter the country’s emissions trading scheme until 2025 and will then get a discounted rate of 95 per cent under a climate change deal struck with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

A 95% discount surely means “agriculture” will definitely have its arse and a damn sight more hanging outside the canoe, indeed nineteen twentieths out, rather than in – so hardly anything in “the waka without exception” at all.

So, is “He Waka Eke Noa” needless casual Maorification, just stupid, or actually malicious obfuscation?

Easy with retrospect, but the experiment with the flankers didn’t work. Sam Cane was likely to have made a difference had he started. The experiment with the loosies had worked earlier so why disrupt it, coaches outsmarted themselves and couldn’t change the game plan. It was easy to see the English where hitting upright players high in the chest and driving them back – even putting them on their backs to make the ball available. The ABs needed to adjust by going in lower and using their shoulders forward in the tackle. Retallick looked like he was favouring his injured arm – it was visible many times at the ruck. Tuipolotu showed he could make metres as soon as he came on as he has done in his earlier appearances. If there was a problem with Retallick, Tuipolotu should have started or at least come on far earlier. He’d shown the goods earlier in the tournament and has shown promise all year.
Persevering with Bridge when his attack against Ireland had been off was a mistake. Reece was full of running but we needed 2 or 3 players doing the same – Ben Smith comes to mind. Jones had worked out how to hammer Mo’unga and made it look simple, spin the ball to where he was placed in the backline then run at him. Reaction? either sub him off or swap him with Beauden but the coaches just preserved and couldn’t change their game plan (trust the process – sounds so hollow now). They hoped the momentum would change and it almost did – but more alert coaches would have changed their game plan or personnel sooner.
At 1 stage Goodhue was a single player in the ruck and consistently the best player for the AB’s throughout the first half only to be subbed off? Made me think that shag and his off-sider had got so use to their own double speak and air of bemusement at their media interviews that they’d lost the plot. Scott Robertson put your hand up.
The AB’s hadn’t lost their physicality in just 1 game – their efforts against SA and Ireland showed that, yet the line up was toyed with. The coaches outsmarted themselves when there was no need.
All that said is after the fact and therefore easy to say. As is the fact that the English pack were brilliant and the AB’s couldn’t disrupt them despite Ardea’s efforts throughout and the provocation against the haka. Take a bow Eddie Jones, he won the mind games and the game.

The haka was always supposed to involve two parties.
And it could always further spectatorship each game involving All-Blacks, to see what the haka-challenged will now respond with.

Next could be “the British Square”, four out-facing sides, used in the Napoleonic and Sudan Wars and elsewhere, which may be even more appropriate in the context of a war dance with protruding tongue and rolled back eyes, basically illustrating what your head will look like on a stake.

If we had won the Cup then you can bet your last dollar that the PTPM would have called a snap election on the feel-good factor. An election that they may well have won.

That won’t happen now, and it gives the CoL another year to show their utter incompetence to run a fruit-juice stand let alone a country.

Was this the case?

The Goodnight Kiwi and Cat who let TV viewers of the 70s and 80s know midnight was approaching and the station was about to shut down for the night are being resurrected in a new show for kids.

The animated characters will star alongside TV and radio personalities including Hilary Barry, Stacey Morrison, Madeleine Sami, Jackie van Beek, Jeremy Wells and Oscar Kightley in the show, Goodnight Kiwi. Made in partnership with The Warehouse, the show will stream on TVNZ OnDemand from November 11.

Hosts will read popular New Zealand bedtime stories, which will be accompanied by animation, original illustrations and live performances. *

    Mod — it is necessary to link in the earlier post, as it relates very much to this one.
    
    The earlier one sets out just how far ahead NZ is with housing production trends (with the industry standard consent rate per 1000 population per annum measure) … in comparison with Australia.
    
    Australia is in very serious trouble.

* President Donald Trump will make a “major statement” at the White House at 9am on Sunday (US time), amid rumours Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed by US-led forces.

Al-Baghdadi, the elusive militant who has been the subject of an international manhunt, has been in hiding for five years.

He has reportedly been killed in Idlib, Syria, after a raid, according to a senior US defence official. The CIA assisted in locating the Isis leader, CNN reported.

Trump gave an indication that something was afoot earlier on Saturday night when he tweeted without explanation, “Something very big has just happened!”*
