  Continue to decry “white rights” in favour of brown, muslim, martian or any other “right”that is not available for said “old white men” and their supporters.

    Our traditional media are abandoning their print investments, poisoning paid subscriptions by insulting huge slices of their customers.
    
    The strategy seems to be capture the young, with a corollary that you can’t appeal to both.
    
    The success of the strategy will depend on capturing advertising. So far there’s virtually no signs of success in that.

    The taking of land and the reduction of the previous tribe to the status of slavery and a food source.
    Teaching NZ history should be mandatory and accurate

      The attack on Matawhero was not revenge, Dr Williams said.
      “It was utu. Utu is different from revenge. Te Kooti told his people to get off their horses and kneel on the ground to bless the people who died.”
      These murderers didn’t “bless the people who died”, they sang Psalm 63 which reveled in the killings. Then they ransacked the settlers’ houses, loaded their possessions on to carts and spent the next week drunk on settler rum and wine while the corpses bloated, rotted in the sun and were gnawed by pigs.
      I wonder what Jessie Wilson did to Te Kooti to deserve being bayoneted to death? She was three months old. Her mother was bayoneted 11 times in the arms and chest trying to protect her.
      I wonder what the one-year-old George Biggs did to Te Kooti to cause he and his mother to be shot and bayoneted to death?
      I wonder what one-year-old Nora Ellen Walsh did to Te Kooti to deserve beheading?
      I wonder what two-year-old Emily Jane McCullock did to Te Kooti to deserve being thrown up in the air and impaled upon a bayonet, then tossed from one bayonet to another?
      I wonder what four-year-old Edwin James Wilson did to Te Kooti to deserve being bayoneted in the back, along with his six-year-old sister Alice Wilson who suffered the same fate?
      I’m sure these children would be delighted to learn that their brutal, sadistic and painful deaths weren’t revenge but were utu which, of course, made it OK.
      Te Kooti was born in 1832, so he was eight when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. He was brought up under British rule as a British subject, and was educated at British Mission School. He knew what was right and wrong.
      Utu be damned. Te Kooti was a drunken sadistic murderer, plain and simple.

      Very interesting..and very sad.
      What a tragic loss of life of innocent children and hardworking farmers 150 years ago.
      Yet today we have to listen to a nauseating apology for 9 lives lost 250 years ago, to descendants who probably wouldn’t even be alive if it weren’t for Cook.
      So sad about the young MP elected to parliament but murdered before he even got to enter the house.

  Apologising for historical events 250 years ago using today’s values as a standard is complete bullshit.
  
  At the time you could get hanged for theft in most countries in Europe.
  
  At that time Maori were killing eachother for sport. If it wasn’t a fight over women or kumara it was because someone looked at you funny.
  
  This killing would have been considered fine by everyone involved at the time.

  Hopefully this will spur Maori into making a public apology for the murders committed by members of the Maori Battalion in WW2, including:
  
  – the Greek policeman and two civilians who were bayoneted during the counterattack at 42nd Street in Crete.
  – the wounded German soldiers who were bayoneted in their litters, or tossed alive into burning ambulances, during the breakout at Minqar Qaim.
  – the Italians who were murdered while trying to surrender during the night attack on El Mrier Ridge.
  – the Italian POWs who were thrown off the cliff at Takrouna.
  – the German POWs who were crucified with their own bayonets at San Silvestro.
  – the German POWs who were shot through the head by a former ACT MP’s husband as they exited the cellar they had been trapped in.
  
  Once that’s done, they can apologise for the hundreds of Italian women they raped.
  
  Then they can explain how they came to be responsible for more than 50% of the serious discipline incidents involving soldiers of 2NZEF, despite being just 5% of the force.

      Her father gave instructions before the attack that no prisoners were to be taken. A British liaison officer reported his comments back to Churchill, who demanded that Pita Awatere (oops, said his name) be court martialled. Freyberg got Awatere (oops) onto a plane back to NZ (via Egypt) before the MPs arrived.
      
      Awatere’s (oops) replacement, Sir James Henare, told me the story in 1988

Climate Intelligence Foundation [CLINTEL], described the leading climate models as “unfit” and urged UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to pursue a climate policy based on “sound science.”

The declaration made six points:
· “Nature as well as anthropogenic factors cause warming”
· “Warming is far slower than predicted”
· “Climate policy relies on inadequate models”
· Carbon dioxide is “plant food, the basis of all life on Earth”
· “Global warming has not increased natural disasters”

  What many people do not realise about Climate Change models is that there is a margin of error in all of these, and by the time you project out for 50 years, the multiplying effect of error on error is so great, leading to such extreme outcomes, that any conclusion would be essentially meaningless.

  Climate change denialists are haranguing the media for not covering the group of 500 ‘prominent scientists and professionals’ who wrote to the UN saying there was no climate emergency. One of the group’s 14 ambassadors is Whale Oil’s former wine columnist.
  
  Of the New Zealand signatories, none appears to have a qualification in climate science, and for several of them, I can find no public record of who they are or what they do.
  
  This is a common tactic – get a bunch of ‘scientists and experts’ to deny climate change, ostensibly to undermine the scientific consensus, while purposely neglecting to mention these people have little to no expertise in climate science or even science in general.

    At 11.8 percent, New Zealand’s underutilisation rate is more than double the unemployment rate. And it’s much worse for women, who are ‘underutilised’ – underemployed or jobless – at a rate of 14.5 percent, compared to 9.4 percent for men.

  There is lots of activity. The hundreds of working groups and workshops have provided lots of opportunities for consulting firms and experts. I guess that’s progress. All these people fly to Wellington and back on Air New Zealand. I guess that’s progress. Except the Koru Lounge is now like the black hole of Calcutta.
  
  Amalgamating all the polytechs. I suppose that’s progress. There is going to be a new cycleway to Petone. So I guess that’s progress.

  Hats off to Tony Heller. He produces much significant destruction of the alarmist lies.
  I am presently reading Marc Morano’s Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change, and can recommend it to anyone who is interested in seeing how this whole debacle has developed, and how the UN elite are manipulating World leaders and influencers. I wasn’t aware that the IPCC reports are written not by scientists, but by political and bureaucratic types – Moran says that in many instances the full (scientific) part of each IPCC report is modified after the ‘political’ summary is produced so that the ‘data’ fits that political summary. The full story of the climate change movement makes it clear this is a deliberate ploy to lead into a single world government by scaring populations to the point where they become willing to accept any impost placed on their freedoms by a government.

    That’s not quite correct. The scientific material is sourced from scientists, those being hand picked to support the narrative, and their work is peer-reviewed by others of the same leaning(s). The SPM (Summary for Policymakers) is written by policy wonks, and these documents are masterpieces of of spin, mixing part truths from the hand-picked science, with activist input, and sometimes even contradicting any of the science that does’t fit the narrative.
    
    This is fraud writ large. Future generations will wonder how we were so easily duped.

      The reports, 1,000+ pages, follow along a year or so after the SPM, the policymakers political crafted document. The two do not necessarily agree.
      
      The Third Assessment Report TAR specifically stated that climate forecasting was not possible because they were dealing with a mathematically chaotic system where the tiniest changes in the input could produce the wildest results.

Great piece from Heather du Plessis-Allen on Newstalk ZB:

I don’t think we should for one minute tolerate what Shane Jones has just done.

It’s very easy to applaud him because he stands up for the provinces or give him latitude because he’s witty.

But what he’s just done is reprehensible and deserves no place in our parliament.

Shane Jones has now threatened revenge against whoever it was who complained to the Herald about his comments at the forestry awards evening.

He says he knows who went to the Herald and he’s going to “deal to them”.

“When the election comes around and the Cabinet restrictions have been loosened, then I am personally going to deal to these National Party sympathisers who thought that it was a smart idea to try and have me quivering in a corner by racing to the media,” he said.

“At the appropriate time, I will deal to them as a big-time, New Zealand First wrestler.”

That is not OK.

It is not OK for a minister in Cabinet to threaten utu.

He is one of the most powerful politicians in this country which means the impact that he can have on a single person or their business could be devastating.

I don’t know what he’s planning… he hasn’t been clear about it… but threats like that are intolerable.

Quite frankly, Shane Jones has run out of second chances.

His behaviour in this term along has been disgraceful. He has publicly rebuked the chair of the Warehouse group telling her how to do her job.

He has publicly rebuked the chair of Air New Zealand saying he’s ‘outlived his usefulness’.

He has publically rebuked Air New Zealand’s former chief executive Christopher Luxon telling him to ‘get back into [his] box’.

He’s publicly rebuked Fonterra’s then-chair John Wilson, telling him to resign.

Now he’s admitted he told the forestry awards audience to vote for him if they want billions in funding and when they complained about what they call bribery, he’s threatened them with utu.

Jones’ behaviour would not have been tolerated by previous governments.

Can you imagine Clark, Key or English making excuses for this kind of nonsense?

This doesn’t reflect well on either Jacinda Ardern or Winston Peters.

Ardern – because she clearly has no power or permission to reprimand him or stand him down

Peters – because he doesn’t seem to mind this kind of behaviour.

I don’t think we, the public, should tolerate this behaviour and this government should carefully consider whether it’s going to.

I’ve reproduced this in full, because there’s barely a word of HDPA’s piece that I disagree with. It’s NOT ok for Jones to be threatening an individual or group of people. And it’s NOT ok for him to be so openly offering cash for votes.

Jacinda Ardern should sack Jones, as much for thumbing his nose at her “rebuke” on Monday as for his rant at the dinner itself.

But she won’t, because if she did, Peters would collapse the coalition. We know his history; he has yet to complete a full term as a Minister. Worse though, is that it would give Peters a lifeline, and that’s the last thing anyone needs!

So it looks as though Jacinda Ardern is stuck with Shane Jones, albatross-like, around her neck, stinking out the joint. That must make the National Party pretty happy.

  This scenario is exactly the reason Key vowed not to work with Winston and why in some ways it was better that Winston took his Utu out on the Nats and choose Labour.     I agree. As a card-carrying National Party member active within my electorate, I truly believe National dodged a bullet when Peters chose to go with Labour and Ardern. If National had won a fourth term, they would probably be in the wilderness for two-three terms post 2020. Instead, after one term in Opposition, we have a sporting chance of making the current coalition the first one-term government in almost 50 years.

  The Parliamentary Library in Australia produced an interesting publication documenting every case of an Australian Minister forced to resign over the last 50 years or so. What is striking is that a large number are for relatively minor offences. Two Ministers lost their jobs because they came back from an overseas trip and failed to declare goods over their duty free limit. There are also large numbers of dismissals for failing to declare relatively minor conflicts of interest.
  
  I don’t recall Ministers in either Australia or New Zealand openly vowing revenge on people for simply expressing a view.

  who think they can say and do as they like with no consequences.
  Ms Ardern just does not have the leadership skills or experience to effectively lead the many difficult and conceited career politicians under her jurisdiction.
  Pulling faces, shouting sometimes, running publicity stunts with headscarves, wishing for globalisation and so on are welcome distracting side issues for the likes of Mr Jones.

Surely the sex assault saga with the perpetrator apparently being a vital member of her office and someone she was reluctant to suspend would and should come back to haunt her should take the Prime Minister out of contention for such a valued award.

  Remeber the promise of ‘NO people homeless in the first Winter’. Where were all the reporters during the second winter, remmeber they all used to go out and put people sleeping in cars on TV every second day in the Key goverment. Suddenly this issue is gone.
  
  When the Nats were in government, obesity, poverty and homelessness were peddled constantly as attack pieces. All of these things are now WORSE under our ‘progressive’ overlords but the Fran O’Sullivans and John Campbells of this world are now silent on these topics.

The accepted definition of Dumb is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

I refer to the Reserve Bank Australia cutting rates to 0.75% and the NZRB to 1%.

All this has done is reward borrowers and steer funds into every increasing risky investment and punish savers.

When the rate increase comes as it will the longer the low interest rates and the further the cuts the more the chaos.

What the central banks should have done is hold their nerve at around 2.5% to 3%. This would have resulted in savers getting a reasonable return, banks getting a reasonable return and borrowers paying a reasonable rate.

There is a always a natural balance and by distorting this balance the central banks have ensured there will be big problems ahead.

For me even though the savings rate is abysmal I am holding cash ready to take up the opportunities when the moment arises.

I do however pity mortgage holders and business borrowers who will feel much pain.

  To be fair to the Green part of the goverment, reduced business activity, reduced technology, shrinking economies and populations are all part of the master plan. The Greens are actually succeeding with their policy goals.
  
  Essentially all of the environmental parties end game is significantly (50% ?) reducing world population and blocking technology advancement that might increase food / energy supply.
  
  If climate change was really the critical world ending emergency than surely the swift move from coal power to nuclear energy (whcih would fix the issue almost entirely) would be being pushed by all greenies. If the choice is the world ending in 11 years or having to store tiny amounts of radioactive waste safetly I know which I would choose. So why arent the greenies, because thats not really the end goal, it’s population reduction.

    But when I saw photos of her recent visit to Zayed College for Girls in Mangere, I couldn’t help but cringe.

    The impact of iconising the hijab went beyond my Iraqi and Arab acquaintances in Auckland. Laila, my Malaysian friend, said: “I wholeheartedly sympathise with the victims’ families and friends, but I cannot possibly bring myself to wear the headscarf again.”

      In my book a classical right wing position is low / light weight government, personal freedom, fiscally sensible and free trade.
      
      On some of these I think trump scores well, like his lowering of regulations. However US government is spending is out of control with debts increasing as fast of faster than Obama. Trump seems anti free trade and feels the government should be deciding what is and isn’t a good deal. There are more (and there were already a lot of) tarrifs comming in daily.
      
      Don’t get me wrong, I like some (maybe most) of his policies, I just see him more centerist rather than right wing. He was after all Democrat supporter for some period of time.

Heard him and M/s Martin big noting about the revamped so called Gold Card. Fancy that. Not a mention of the circa $2000 Dollars gouged from Superannuants. One would have to spend a lot of money hoping to save the so called 5% on their purchases to match the $40 per week entitlement that Peters and his gang denied, as Peters mentioned yesterday the Second Class Citizens who hold Gold Cards and maybe once his loyal supporters who he saw fit to shaft.

Why did they decide to leave the yet-to-be named Wellington region? When did they cease to be “Taranaki” Maori?
      
      Questions such as these, mutatis mutandis, which can be asked about much of NZ prior to 1840, make me somewhat sceptical, even cynical, about apologies and compensation for historical injustices.

This arrived on my Facebook feed in a group that I belong to. I thought it might help some KB commenters to understand what is driving this young person, whether or not they agree with the political sentiments. And how her condition is being exploited so effectively. The writer also has Aspergers –

“Greta has Aspergers. In some countries, that term is outdated and is simply called Autism. She has stated more than once that climate change is her special interest and has been for years. A special interest for someone with Autism isn’t just “oh, I’m going to ask a few questions about this and believe whatever I am told.” It’s more of a “I”m going to research the hell out of this and info-dump on whoever will listen.”

She has stated that this has been her special interest since she was 8 or 9 (I think?) and that means she has put years of obsessive levels of research into the subject and probably has, at the very least, the equivalent of a graduate student’s (masters degree) level of knowledge on the subject. She’s managed to get the world to listen when she info-dumps on the subject.

To put into context, watching rock climbing became a special interest of mine in 2019. At this point, with only a few months of research, and most of it being watching competition climbing, not reading up on it, not only can I tell you the top 12 female and male competition climbers in the world this year, but I could do so back to 2012.

I can also talk your ear off about various climbing methods, what the different holds are, the equipment needed, the best outdoor climbs in the world, the terms and phrases used, a basic history from the 18th century onward. I know and am able to compare 3 of the grading systems (for difficulty) used regularly for bouldering and lead climbing and know the basics about other grading systems.

On top of that, I can list, off the top of my head, notable first ascents in free climbing, free soloing and deep water soloing including the location, name of the climb, name of the climber and year in which they did the climb, for the past 30 years.

All of that when my special interest has been specifically for competition climbing (the type they’ll do for the Olympics next year) and I’ve only had that interest for a few months.

Take someone like Greta, whose special interest has lasted 6-7 years, and no, she’s not being fed the knowledge. Trying to feed information to an autistic person about their special interest just wouldn’t work. You would have to cut off all other sources of information – no libraries, no internet, no letters or emails, magazines, scientific journals, research papers, news, TV, etc – and then you would have to convince them that you are the be all, end all, most reliable source of information on the subject and you would have to be able to answer every question they had (without contradicting any earlier statements you made or from previous research they had done before you cut them off) and your answers would have to be logical.

You cannot feed information in drips and drabs to an Autistic person on their special subject so that they only speak with your voice saying what you want them to say. Unless you are the world premiere authority on the subject, chances are, when an autistic person latches on to a special interest, they will have more knowledge on the subject within a matter of weeks or months. If they’ve invested years, as Greta has done, there will be very few people indeed, who know more about the subject.

As for not being scolded by a child… Autists tend to have very black and white thinking, and on a subject like climate change, that becomes enmeshed with moral thinking. The fact is, human behaviour is changing the climate and that is going to have an impact on future generations.

She has a right to be angry and she has the right to express that anger. Using her age to invalidate those emotions is no different than a misogynist saying women are too emotional to be leaders and have opinions of their own. In this case, it’s ageism, sexism and ableism she has to fight against to be heard.

Yes, I’m probably biased in her favour since I’m autistic as well, but the fact of the matter is, her science is correct and her emotions are valid.

I’d like to introduce a bit of empathy into this discussion as well, with all this talk about her being hateful, dramatic and overly emotional.

She’s a 16 year old girl who is so passionate about her special interest that, when given a chance to share her voice, has taken the opportunity to do so. That doesn’t change the fact that this entire year has probably been incredibly overwhelming for anyone, let alone someone with Autism.

During that speech I saw a girl who has spent months in new and uncomfortable situations, trying to speak, trying to be heard, and listening to world leaders mouth empty platitudes about the changes they should make all the while complimenting her to her face and perhaps criticising her to the media.

I saw a girl getting frustrated and angry after a year of managing to keep it together under international scrutiny.

If you’re an introvert, imagine trying to cope with what she has coped with in the past year, then multiply that intense amount of sensory input by a thousand and ask yourself if you wouldn’t have a moment of tears and anger?

Hell, I can’t even do 8 hours of enjoyable socialising with friends outside my home without having a shutdown for the entire evening and most of the next morning.

That wasn’t drama or being hateful. That was an Autistic girl managing to hold off an Autistic meltdown or shutdown after waaaaaaay too much sensory input and stimulation. She probably knew how close she was to meltdown and went onstage anyway. That took a hell of a lot of courage.

I couldn’t do it. I would’ve been backstage, curled up in a ball, crying my eyes out, screaming in frustration. And I’m considered “low support needs” (aka, “high functioning” for people who use outdated terminology).

From my perspective, that speech was someone stretched to breaking point using all their strength to hold it together.

I admire her more than ever after that. It’s not something I could do.”

      As I understand it, there are degrees of autism. After reading the post, I went back and looked at the video again, and it seemed to me that this Particular child could well be at the far end of the spectrum where she would have become obsessed with the subject.
      As the writer says – she would have been compelled to discover as much information as she could, whether or not it was accurate, and she may not be able to evaluate its worth. However, she ‘knows’ what she knows, and maybe that is all we are seeing.
      The worst part of this is that she is allowed to be so exploited in front of the whole world.

    ASD and Aspergers are not co-incident. Asperger’s is a subset of the autism spectrum. A person can be high functioning in one area and useless in other basic ones.

Sarah was in the fertilized egg business. She had several hundred young pullets and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs. When she went to investigate, she saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Sarah’s amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn’t ring. He’d sneak up on a pullet, do his job, and walk on to the next one. Sarah was so proud of old Butch, she entered him in a Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the “No Bell Peace Prize” they also awarded him the “Pulletsurprise” as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren’t paying attention? Vote carefully in the next election. You can’t always hear the bells.

There are really stupid people in the world.

In Rotterdam they now have a floating dairy farm to improve sustainability. Huh?

It uses less land. Does it really? The cows still need to be fed and the feed is still being grown on land.

In Holland it makes more sense to scrape together another island than it does not make a feedlot barge out of steel etc to float the cows on. Anyone that looks into the energy required to make the barge could tell you that.

It reduces the distance the milk has to travel to market. Well done, but it increases the distance feed has to be carried. And feed weighs much more than the milk, so they’ve really made the food miles worse.

But back slaps all round. Greta will be happy and can allow herself to drink milk again.

Serious question about NZ history for you all

My partner’s son is early-30s incredibly bright, talented and immensely successful in his career (rich and good-looking to the b*stard)

We were discussing what he knew about NZ’s history in the C19th along with his wife.

I was educated in forces schools in various parts of the world as well as the UK.

I was amazed to find out that this smart young man and his medical professional wife knew none of the following re Maori history:

Maori infanticide, the fact that captives had their tendons cut so they didn’t escape, that pits were dug to contain their human food, that there is a place called Human Meat on the SI, that their captives were soaked in seawater to tenderise the meat and finally that most of the tattooed heads, that we hear oh so much about as being stolen taonga, were actually captives tattooed to order before being killed in order to be sold to Europeans.

I’d also add that my very smart, well-educated 50-something partner was unaware of most of these facts too. When I worked on a NZ national newspaper one of my very intelligent and adult colleagues was convinced that “Maori didn’t beat their children” by reference to a book by a clergyman but was not only totally unaware of the recorded infanticide but point-blank refused to accept that it happened.

Is this history actually taught in NZ schools or not? If it’s not then it’s unsurprising that young(er) people can’t put the behaviour of the time in context.

  That’s where it crosses the line to fraud and actually does present a potential risk.
  
  Imagine if a disgraced fraudster wanted to hold an event where they took money off you and promised a particular result which of course never eventuates.

Says on the net that the main reason babies are being uplifted by social workers is because they and their mothers are at risk of violence from mum’s partner.
How hard would it be to set up some safehouses for mothers and babies where they get support and protection from these violent partners?

Stephen Franks’ blog is back in action after a six-month break.

It has a substantial, interesting guest post on the British Parliamentary prorogue.

The post quotes Bernard Robertson, formerly Editor of the New Zealand Law Journal, but as it stands I’m not sure who the “guest poster” is.

  Confusingly, the introductory paragraphs were written by Stephen. The rest of the “guest post” is by Bernard Robertson. The reader does not realise that, however, until this—
  
  “I asked Bernard Robertson, formerly Editor of the New Zealand Law Journal, what he made of the judgment. He now reports on cases in the NZ Supreme Court.
  
  “Here is his response. All that follows is his:[.]”
  
  Once I made that realisation, I set aside my already-formed intention to have a crack at Mr Robertson for arrogantly stating, “I have been too busy to write a considered analysis of the decision”, when, at that point, by casting my eyes downwards, it was fairly clear that he had continued on to do just that.”
  
  Stephen was remiss in not making it clear, at the outset, that the first few paragraphs were his.

I’m surprised that the old rat Peters is already attacking his fellow Maori about the 250 year anniversary of the dreaded whitey arriving here in NZ, he usually only gets all racist closer to some important political happening like an election.
But of course this is to slow down some of the criticism coming his way when he F—Ks off to the R W C in a few days, no doubt he will be away for some time at our expense the rat cunning arsehole…
