Lots of dosh for school infrastructure projects with a two year window to spend it. Large urban schools will get the max. Same week record building consents are reported.

Good luck finding tradies.

Not that consents guarantee actual building. Earlier this year research from Colliers International found that in 2018 49 consented Auckland apartment projects fell over – 19 were abandoned, 13 were deferred and 17 saw their sites re-marketed for sale or sold.

    It is not the apostrophe’s problem. It is a problem with apostrophes (and that many modern educators also don’t know how to use them properly).
    
    How long before they are eliminated because they are just too hard for the snowflakes’ self esteem to get right.

  My grand daughter looked at me with wide-eyed wonder when I explained the complexities of the apostrophe – she is a bright 14yo and had no idea.
  She goes to a ‘good’ school, but it doesn’t seem to be any better than the others.

If the Government made the decision itself to legalise personal “recreational” (non-medical) use of cannabis and got it wrong – if they approved it and there was a vast upsurge in respiratory cancer, and other associated illnesses, and road fatalities and accidents increased dramatically from drugged driving – would Maori, who seem to suffer the worst of disturbing societal statistics – “are more likely to be overweight, depressed, homeless, incarcerated and uneducated” [1] – would Maori have recourse to compensation through the Waitangi Tribunal after such a decision turned to crap?

And, based on the Treaty Partnership, what extension of the Waitangi Tribunal would be required to accomodate non-Maori New Zealanders’ similar needs in the circumstance of such a massive Government decision turning “tits up”?

Like it seems Government policies, or lack of them, or failures in fulfilling them, is resulting in the current death toll in Samoa’s measles epidemic?

But the Government is not making the decision – the entire voting populace are being asked to. It will be a democratic majority public decision.

However in such a referendum, the Government is arranging all the conditions, and it seems established that it is a Government function to provide sufficient information for everyone to make a fully informed decision. The necessity for that, and the quality and balance of that information, surely still makes the Government responsible for the result of a referendum that they are allowing and they are arranging.

A referendum relies on the quality of information the Government provides for the people to decide their vote, so the outcome is surely still a consequence of Government action – those voting will be properly informed, or not.
As should be the timing – basically when sufficient information has been provided.

It is still a Government responsibility to raise the process above being just a version of Lotto, where everyone gets the prize – whether they have a ticket or not.

In fact, What onus does it place on the New Zealand First Party? – as it is they who have insisted this particular decision go to a referendum.

    I do voluntary maintenance at my daughters’ (yes, more than one daughter!) kindergarten. One thing was cleaning the guttering, until we were told that it was not allowed because of “Health and Safety” and that we needed to get a contractor to do it.
    
    So I showed them the legislation and how to comply. Still no.
    
    That means that I now have to sneak down and do it on weekends. Safely.

Beware Taxpayers we are being miss informed and deceived by this Government on what borrowing they will have for the big spend up that Jacinda with Grant Roberson have promised. It has been suggested that Phil Twyford has found a way of borrowing for Infrastructure and Housing without the voter being able to know the figures of how much has been borrowed.

Listening to Robbo being interviewed this morning on RNZ by Dann at 7.30am, I was left with this overwhelming sense of gloom for our future. Listening to Robbo you could only come to the conclusion that although he is responsible for the country’s financial “wellbeing”, he is a successful and adept politician, who is also a liar and an intellectual lightweight. So much so,
1. He couldn’t disguise what the $400million spend up on schools at this time really is, an election bribe;
2. He could explain why now;
3. He could explain where and when to will all be delivered;
4. He could give priorities of the spend; and
5. he gave some good and obvious porkies about roads and transport.

He doesn’t have a clue.

AN icy fog will blanket the UK today as temperatures plummet to a freezing -10C with wind and rain set to batter the nation.

A crippling Arctic blast is to blame for the plummeting temperatures – with fierce snowstorms threatening to blanket Northern regions, and most of Wales.

The extreme plunge in temperatures comes as odds are slashed on the UK experiencing its coldest temperatures on record.

As temperatures plunge, snow is expected to fall and Coral now go 5-4 that there will be a white Christmas in the UK.

  The Hadley Centre was where the hidden emails originated. They couldn’t find any global warming so began to change the earlier data to make an apparent increase. They passed this onto their international mates including NIWA.

    There was some correspondence with the Hadley Centre included but in point of fact the email treasure trove came from CRU -the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia.

So, the Labour Party has decided that in order to get this country’s economy back on track, we need to borrow to invest in infrastructure.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t that EXACTLY what the National Government was doing before this crowd of idiots suddenly decided that we didn’t need to invest in infrastructure any more, and instead decided to build imaginary houses with imaginary builders, build imaginary light rail in Auckland, stop any road and transport development in Wellington to get it moving again, and fund LESS students in to tertiary education instead.

Then they call it the year of delivery!

I wouldn’t trust this lot to run a kindergarten cake stall.

I like the Kiwi Build deficit counter over on the right, it is a good reminder of the uselessness of the COL, but as far as Labour are concerned, if they even manage to build say 5 KiwiBuild houses they have achieved their target as Megan Woods said they would build as many as they can as fast as they can.
I just cannot understand how they retain their popularity with the general public when they are so devious and useless. I guess common sense is just not that common amongst the general public.

Her entire speech of what they had achieved during their time in office ranged from out and out untruths to an occassional half truth, however her pronunciation of everything as everythink to me really showed her total and utter unsuitability for the position that she holds. If there had been interviews held for the position of PM prior to Winston elevating her to that position I doubt whether she would have passed the first round She is an absolute embarrasment and I cringe every time she opens her mouth.

  There is no benefit in measuring it correctly so of course it will be fudged.
  
  Methane is counted as being something like 27 times as bad as CO2 because if you take a vessel full of methane it provides 27 times the green house effects that CO2 does. What is not considered is that methane rapidly breaks down into CO2, especially in the upper atmosphere where the ozone can get a crack at it.
  
  They don’t feed cows diesel. All the grass that cows eat comes form CO2 gathered by photosynthesis – mostly on farm. ie. The farmer grows grass which absorbs CO2 then the cows just release it again, using the energy.
  
  Therefore CO2 becomes CO2 again. Therefore grazing is carbon neutral.
  
  The only way to make grazing evil is to apply the 27x multiplication effect by invoking the dodgy methane “science”.
  
  If we were a bit more honest in CH4 accounting we would knock out almost all our agricultural emissions (and reduce NZ emissions by about 50%), but there’s no gain in that.
  
  What would that “nice guy” James Shaw do to justify flying to all those climate change conferences?

I note with interest the seemingly ongoing attempt to inflict further punishment upon Vinod Skantha, following his recent conviction.

Notwithstanding the personal misgivings I have regarding his conviction (due largely to the obvious unreliability and contradictions evinced of the ‘star’ witness, which came out under cross examination by Mr Eaton, as well as the testimony of the teens who clearly used him for their own ends), I find it unnecessary to publish further, tenuously related details as to other aspects of his employment disciplinary process, as well as now linking him to other matters concerning other people’s court appearances. I also note similar media behaviour regarding the Millane killer, in regard to tales told by other women (former flatmates etc.) for example, after the fact.

I must stress that I have no interest in defending either of them, but I find it noteworthy in principle that this post-conviction media smearing, seemingly untested in court, is allowed.

    It may be too subtle a distinction for you, but my comment is about a principle: the principle of publishing further details regarding a person convicted of a crime, particular circumstances and associations that are only at best tangentially related to his conviction, and seem to be motivated by a desire to sell some papers or stimulate web traffic. Being convicted is not licence to thereafter publish any old untested assertion or draw links and inferrences when they may not exist. Moreover, I also give the similar example of the white NZer who killed Ms Millane. The fact that Skantha just happens to have Indian heritage is irrelevant to my point. Obviously it is fully relevant to yours.
    
    Regarding my doubts as to the soundness Skantha’s conviction, and in addition to the factors in my OP, it is a matter of record that none of Skantha’s DNA was found at the crime scene.

        Was there or was there not DNA found at the scene? No, there was not. Given that we leave some DNA in nearly every location we visit, and that the ESR would have been searching extensively for it, that seems a little odd.
        
        This is not to mention (all published): the star prosecution witness’s testimony as to the timing, which was changed when it meant Skantha could not have been in the house, being back at the car when the victim sent her final message; this witness’s muddled recollections as to whether he cleaned a bloody knife afterward, or not; his being previously found in the victim’s room, in the dark, standing over the future victim, by the victim’s mother; the witness himself being a proven sex offender, who lied to the Police about his involvement in his own crimes. Call me sceptical if you want, but these are all facts.

It was quite strange reading this in the Herald yesterday.
My partner had actually met Fergus at an Investment Seminar some time ago.
Initially, he thought the guy seemed quite clued up on ‘matters financial’.
However, he smelled a bit of a rat later on when he contacted him to discuss business. Whenever Fergus answered his phone, he’d always say in a funny voice, “Eh, what’s up doc?”

Had a call this morning from a mate who subscribes to the Dompost.
I cancelled my subscription around a year ago, couldn’t stand the daily left wing opinion pieces, and the constant pro-Labour editorials.
He reckoned he couldn’t do that for various reasons, death notices, weather etc.
Well, he’s finally had enough.
“That Jane Bowron has just tipped me over” he said. “She’s back on the politics, Labour wonderful, National evil. I’ve just cancelled and feel a sense of relief.”
I wonder how many subscribers the Dompost must lose before they consider the wisdom of pissing off what must be a good portion of their audience.

I think that Cindy should be worried – but she will not even think about it.
The Labour PARTY elected a new President in Ms Szabo – a very worthy person.
Ms Szabo is very presentable, intelligent – well educated, highly qualified and had considerable work experience.
She is well past the life experience of Cindy.
Cindy was not elected by the Party remember but by the Labour MPs through a twist in the then new rules.
Cindy should keep looking over her shoulder, or get out to the UN, as she will find that Ms Szabo is not one to be trifled with as she was able to do with the previous male President.

  If anything, the tools to do this came from the BEPS (base erosion profit shifting) work that was done under the last government.

  If a foreign company pays tax in NZ, those tax credits are effectively lost to the owners of the company when the income eventually makes the way to them. That is an utterly unfair and as you say, corrupt practice by Governments around the world who all want to tax the same income. It’s disgusting and until company tax credits are claimable against tax obligations, moving taxable income will be an entirely reasonable thing to do.
  
  Also note that all of the IP etc is not held in NZ so very little of the actual income is actually earned here anyway and taxing it here is actually stealing the tax revenue from the jurisdiction where the income is actually earned (in the short term anyway).
  
  The rules and reasons for all of this are in place but they are too difficult for the people who complain to understand.

    Foreign Tax Agreements are numerous. The general principal adopted is the country where the income was derived has the primary right to tax and the parent country of the taxpayer will allow an agreed credit. That does not mean a credit $ for $ but as per the agreement.

  It’s worth noting that these BEPS rules were negotiated by National with many other tax jurisdictions. That is why it took so long because you actually need international agreement to make effective BEPS rules. Jacinda had absolutely nothing to do with it. Michael Woodhouse and then Judith Collins did most of the heavy lifting and Nash just signed it.

    Juries should be given all information that the judges and lawyers see – to withhold it distorts the outcomes in a bad way – creating miscarriages of justice. Remember that rape trial against 3 cops (my brain is pulling up Louise Nicolas?? as victim) a decade or two back where after verdict it turned out two of cops were already in jail for rape? FFS shows a very clear pattern of behavior which in any sensible world the jury should be made aware of. Likewise Ellis verdict where Juries would not have convicted if they had seen all evidence – legal system fail.

If you make “fossil fuels” too expensive then people chop down trees for firewood.

This is particularly bad in Zimbabwe which has plagues of elephants that destroy trees.

This government is really filled to the brim with malice. Unbelievable that integrated schools have been specifically excluded from their “benevolent” hand out of funds for school repairs. I know they are anti Christian but not all integrated schools are Christian. It is all part of the govt’s marxist agenda. If all the children being educated and, to a large extent funded, by their families in integrated schools were to flood back into the state system they Government wouldn’t know what hit them. I am pleased to see this decision is contrary to the integrated schools agreement and that legal action will follow.

  SAP can confirm it was notified of a security breach to the New Zealand Police gun buy back system this morning.
  
  The security breach indicated that a single dealer user had accessed information not intended to its user profile.
  
  As soon as the full details of this incident were understood, all user profiles on the system, except for SAP consultants investigating, were locked, and remain so.
  
  As part of new features intended for the platform, security profiles were to be updated to allow certain users to be able to create citizens records.
  
  A new security profile was incorrectly provisioned to a group of 66 dealer users due to human error by SAP.
  
  We unreservedly apologise to New Zealand Police and the citizens of New Zealand for this error.
  
  The security of our customers and their data is of absolute priority to us.
  
  A full internal investigation is already underway within SAP.
  
  We continue to work with and offer our full resources to New Zealand Police to ensure the system is fully secure and up and running again as soon as possible.

    Additionally, Newshub have just reported that the security update that caused the issue WAS NOT approved by Police.
    
    Now think about how many databases in NZ and worldwide run on SAP and consider the potential for this type of data breach to occur – we may just be the first of many countries to suffer this type of breach and certainly we would not be the worst affected.
    
    As for the Minister resigning, there would need to be some proof that the Minister was either incredibly lax in their oversight, or reckless in their demands to the Police to the point of directing operational policy, and I just don’t see this having happened.

    With something as precious and as dangerous as a gun owners list, it should never have been on any type of web server.
    
    It should have been on an internal server, with the submission form being exactly that, a one way pipe to add information. If data needed to be edited by user, said information gets requested from internal database for that user only. This is basic stuff in it.
    
    Putting everything on an internet facing server is what makes hacking so easy.
    
    But then, clearly no-one in the department or govt has a clue about (IT) security and privacy. And we are supposed to trust in them to protect us!
    
    Five months Labour wanted heads to roll over the “budget” breach. Winston Peters wanted heads to roll over the leak of his data over his super fraud.
