As we remember this weekend the appalling Christchurch mosque attacks carried out by a deranged individual and we commit ourselves to doing everything we can ensure it never happens again, let us remember also the consequential attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday 2019 – the most holy day in the Christian calendar – when 250 people were killed and more than 500 people injured in a series of coordinated suicide bombings on a number of sites, including three churches, carried out by Islamic terrorists.

      The system does mean that an incoming Mayor can end up with a potentially hostile council. In the worst cases it can lead to a dreadful situation as happened with the Horowhenua District Council 2016 to 2019. In another case a council directed the CEO not to provide any information to the Mayor unless a OIA request with the Mayor paying personally – this was IMP highly unlawful.
      If the voters deliver a potentially hostile situation, then the challenge is for the Mayor and Councillors to make it work which is what no doubt what Andy and his Council are doing their best to achieve. It may well have been that Andy was advised by senior Council staff or other Councillors that he should attend such a course.
      It may be too, that the Wellington mayor has a budget to cover various Mayoral activities and Andy may have considered this the best use of that budget.

While covid-19 is nothing to sneeze at, let’s not lose our grasp on reality. But, hey, anything for the MSM to turn this into clicks!

Reality check time: Iran has a population of approx 80 million people, with a life expectancy of 75. That means approx 1 million a year (or 3000 a day, or 90,000 a month) are dying all the time due to the natural churn of life.

Iran has had 429 people dying of covid-19 in approx one month. Even if they are lying and the number is ten times that, 4000, that is less than 5% of the normal death rate.

To say they need all these new graves for covid-19 is not sane!

    This is going to be a PR disaster for Cindy as any of the following is a possibility:
    
    -The fine people from ChCh may not turn up to a mass gathering. Would you?
    -Someone will have hayfever and cough causing a stampede
    -a Covid19 cluster will happen directly related to the event
    -someone may attend knowing they are not well, causing mass isolations, even if a false alarm
    -someone may die as a direct result of the event.
    
    (Ditto the Pacifica festival in Auckland)
    
    Cindy is so determined to host the commemoration that any adverse outcome is on her head. Surely someone has advised her of that. This is a govn event so she is 100% responsible.

  What are unacceptable names for Ardern? And maybe why?
  
  I have been using the h***z**** one for many months without having it deleted in the past. I think this is fitting given her desire to h*** instead of do anything useful.
  
  Is Pr*NZ*** (another I have used for months) still Ok? This name acknowledges her PR degree and the important role she plays in NZ society.
  
  I see some people call her Cindy. That is a name she has said she hates, so I try to avoid that. Clearly because she has openly mentioned this, this would be very upsetting and should be avoided.
  
  To the best of my understanding, Ardern has never said she dislikes being called H***z*** or Pr*NZ***.

    There was a time when the word “liar” was banned for some unknown reason, but sanity has returned to a degree although the standard of moderation is varied and what gets a tick today may not tomorrow.
    
    I called ardern a liar not as an insult but as a statement of fact.
    
    I use the phrase “what’s in it for wynston” because in my opinion it sums up the entire character of the person.
    
    While I still endure many deletions, in my mind they are due to the sensitivity of moderation and I do not see my comments as obscene, insulting to other members or non factual.

Once more we can see another example of the damage to the well being of NZs that Peters created when he selected a bunch of nohopers and losers to be the Government of NZ .
Good leadership and direction in a time of crisis is Paramount for NZs Citizens . Many many companies and businesses are waiting for the Peters gang of nohopers to make some kind of decision and direction on where the good ship NZ is headed ,for in the crisis .
Not to be . Robertson, our Peters selected Finance Minister has been sent off to get direction from Australia by Ardern .Up to now they have been making decisions not to make decisions hoping some one else, or a country like Australia will solve their ineptness .

What a bloody comparison for good Government like when John Key /Bill English/Stephen Joyce steered NZ through the disastrous 2008 GFC.
Perhaps we should bring them back ASAP to help out Peters selection . Seems they have tits for hands and ****for brains in the present regime .
One more case in point. At least for the sake of imagined face saving opportunities for Ardern it has been said a decision was made to carry out a Memorial in Christchurch in a closed building for many Participants . In fact almost 1000 people flying in from Overseas. Wonder how that will work out. Especially since Saudi Arabia has banned all gatherings at Mecca for obvious reasons.

My partner is a huge fan of the NRL and the Canterbury Bulldogs. He firmly believes the so called ‘sex scandal’ surrounding of couple of the players is well and truly over-blown. Both the schoolgirls involved were above the age of consent and it was them who initiated the liaisons. As my partner says…asking a young woman to “show us your tits” is hardly the crime of the century.

  No one is accusing the NRL players of anything illegal. That said, if you have been sent to a high school to promote the game, inviting some of the high school girls back to your hotel for sex was never going to be a good look – it’s not rocket science. I understand it, players are warned extensively to avoid what might bring the club and the game into disrepute. The club is in its rights to be extremely annoyed.

  Maggie – while sometimes these things can be overblown, in this case the rugby league players were at a school where they met the girls in question. While the girls being over the age of consent and everything being consensual is a mitigating factor, it still does not excuse what happened.
  
  Those of us that are parents do not want sports stars going to school to recruit schoolgirls to have sex with. That is bad behaviour.
  
  It’s cost the Canterbury Bulldogs as a family restaurant pulled out of a $2 million sponsorship deal with them as a result of this incident.

  The virus is a natural event, mother nature and evolution doing their thing – Every eighteen months or so there is a new strain of flu and we work through it. New viruses that cause the common cold have been appearing forever and life has gone on, the rate at which this occurs is slower than with flu, it seems but in fact this is no worse than a new strain of flu.
  
  The 1918 Spanish flu was distinctive because it struck down people in the prime of their life whereas this epidemic is taking out people in their twilight days.
  
  And when you reach your twilight years ultimately ther will be some trigger that initiates your final decline.
  
  As we speak Italy and Iran are probably at the peak of their epidemics and soon the rate of new cases will show a decline and taper off
  
  Spain, Germany and France are all exhibiting signs of the epidemic increasing pace and the epidemic those places will peak sometime in the next few weeks and then decline
  
  We re entering the flu and cold season – we need to be ready for sure but keep our heads.
  
  What is happening is not unusual, what is new is that now we have the tools and techniques to measure more fully what is happening, in real time and that is getting wide media exposure, exposure that is not necessarily accurate BTW

  New Zealand is lucky because it seems to have avoided having sufficient cases for the virus to get a foothold. Now that international travel is being restricted and closely monitored it should be possible to keep it out.
  
  The USA is different. With over 1000 confirmed cases, and probably many more undiscovered due to a shortage of test kits, the virus is firmly established here. Nationwide spread is probably inevitable.
  
  The really worrying thought for me is if the coronavirus can infect people and have either no symptoms or symptoms so mild they get ignored. That would make containment virtually impossible. It would be the utter nightmare scenario for anybody over 60.

    The international response is now more about delay than containment. I.e. trying to flatten the curve.
    
    It’s ultimately a good thing that “coronavirus can infect people and have either no symptoms or symptoms so mild”. That means the vast majority of people will be ok.
    
    That doesn’t negate the tragedy / concern for the frail & sick being at risk, of course. Hence the plan to delay & slow so we’re not overwhelmed all at the same time, and can do our best for the vulnerable.

  A woman I know spoke her her doctor yesterday about it during a routine checkup, and the medical professionals are very, very worried. All leave has been cancelled and they are all available. The Dr said that if the percentages of sick overseas are imposed upon Auckland, with a 3% mortality rate, then we aren’t going to be able to cope. Not enough hospital beds for the sick, even.

Look out for a lot of new, unworkable, Health & Safety Regulations to suddenly appear in the next 6 months. The Minister wants to be seen to be doing something, so the order has gone out to MBIE staff. Regulations don’t go through Parliament, and there is no meaningful consultation with affected parties so no-one knows what is attended, so the first most people will know of them is when Worksafe turns up to force compliance.

New Zealanders must offer kindness and understanding to combat the hate which led to the March 15 Christchurch terror attacks, Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon says.

Tarrant, who says he was radicalised while travelling in France, seems inspired by Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian who killed 77 people.
Essential to Tarrant’s attacks was prior silence and privacy, so there was no public hate speech on his part or display of attitude that, for example, certain Muslim women have claimed to the Royal Commission, they warned authorities of, but were not heeded.

In fact, while Tarrant arrived in New Zealand two years before March last year, he travelled extensively, so it would be interesting to know, given he apparently took two months planning the precise event, how much longer than that was he actually in New Zealand.

While Ardern’s immediate reaction was “He is not one of us”, which reflects a tendency to dramatically reject issues that upset her, she is still correct in the sense he had little influence on New Zealand until he struck, and prior that New Zealand had little to do with what he did.

I’ll be interested to see how much the Royal Commission will tend to contradict that.
Since, like the Pike River re-entry, it is a bugger to spend all that money for something that returns no result.

Never ceases to amaze me the ignorance of how business works. Businesses especially SMEs dont have a large amount of cash reserves in case of Covid-19. Even large businesses dont.

Reason. Good businesses utilise every cent to grow the business. They borrow from the bank according to their risk profile and the banks assessment.

So when their customers stop coming thru the door………………………………………

But their costs keep on keeping on fixed costs dont stop variable costs may diminish.

Thats why a cash injection as ScoMo as done is the best quick fix.

Starve a business of customers and cash and watch it collapse.

If the COL have even half a brain they will follow ScoMo and inject cash into the economy as the Aussies have done and fast. Like next week as the Aussies are doing.

Otherwise the COL can kiss goodbye to Election 2020 as NZ economy will be in a deep recession come September.

  I listened to her Covid-19 spiel yesterday and her talk on economic packages for Covid affected businesses…..I don’t like the way she spoke….they will help businesses affected by Covid but not if they were struggling before Covid…WTF does this mean, does she have a particular date in mind for when Covid started affecting business. I know of farmers and other industries that have been on struggle street since January due to Covid, but the way she is talking, I think affected businesses are being lined up for a huge let down and will be told they don’t fit the “criteria”……my one man band consultancy has had two hours work this week and so far no hours next week, if this continues I am going to be in strife and I know I won’t be getting any help from these clowns….

  Steve – I am predicting that Trump will seem to go very easy on Biden, relative to how he dealt with Hillary Clinton. If he is smart he will speak to him with gentle condescension and even pity.
  
  Once your opponent pities you, then you are done as a presidential candidate.
  
  I think the upcoming debate with Bernie Sanders would tell us a lot about Biden’s mental state. How will he handle the debate stage for 1 to 2 hours where he will have to speak extensively? At the moment Joe is on a candidate protection scheme where he has very limited appearances and when he speaks it’s for around five minutes. Can he handle being on stage in a debate for up to 2 hours? I very much doubt it.

How can a country still fly people in or out from infected areas and not record any new cases.

How do we think this Coronavirus will play out politically in election year. Obviously Ardern is going to get a tonne of screentime but the way shes handled this pandemic so far is utterly incompetent. The rest of the world is taking drastic action and announcing economic policies for their people and Ardern is telling people to simply self isolate…for gods sake we aren’t even screening everyone who enters our ports. It is only through luck that we do not have thousands of cases throughout the country as of yet. God I hope the kiwi public wakes up by September. How much more ineptitude will it take from the most incompetent government in our history? Does policy and delivery really not matter? Cos if it doesnt and it’s all a popularity contest. National needs to be led by someone else. Are you available Briscoes lady?…

    USA has 5.3 infections per 1,000 population
    Australia currently 6.1.
    there are 28 countries that have worse infection rates than the USA per head of population.
    This leadership is just scary, they cannot even base a decision on facts.
    Who is advising this leadership, way out of their depth.

Why hasn’t the Prime Minister shut down the Memorial on Sunday with all the other events that have been stopped. This will leave a bad taste in many mouths as this is no more than a vote catching exercise by our Prime Minister to have the Television Networks and Mainstream Media pump out what a caring person she is and fornicate all over her for the next week. I am sick of her showing how out of her depth she is in trying to control our country and even more pissed off that think she can grandstand on events that weren’t NZ ‘s doings.
