  I don’t get involved in conspiracy theories but she makes some interesting points. Look at what’s been happening: Climate Change-Covid-BLM and it starts to seem like a pattern looking to an end result, control. The goal in the American elections was: get rid of trump at any cost, and it consolidated my suspicion when the media decided Biden had won before votes were fully counted. There’s no doubt in my mind the election was cooked and I believe both the courts, the media and the system aren’t interested and won’t fairly investigate the fraud. We’re moving to a cashless society and once that’s achieved banks and government can control our lives. Look at China where the whole population is going to be on digital identification systems and electronically monitored. Why else would the CCP want to do that other than to totally control its peoples lives. Socialists have got cunning, realising that the best way to grow is to create fear and when you have a scared population they’re easy to control. Very interesting times ahead.

    Part of me does not want to disagree, Don but I do feel it is a mistake to underestimate Ardern. She has some skills and she uses them well. Her PR is good, she does empathy well, she does sympathy OK, she has developed the political nack of evasion and ducking.
    
    I believe a lot of people feel she is bringing a new dimension to politics and are hopeful that the change she keeps waffling on about will actually happen even they dont know what that change will be. These people dislike politics and think that we have been served badly by politicians for decades.
    
    You and I know they are wrong and the lights are slowly coming on as more people see no concrete action where it matters but trying to kid ourselves she is useless in each and every aspect of her job means we are overlooking the strengths of an ‘enemy’ we need to know well.
    
    Sun Tzu said, “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.”.

      The media then turned her into a Madonna , literally from day one .

      On her first day on the campaign trail as new labour leader she was asked by the media about that day’s interest rate meeting at the Central bank , she ‘replies she wasn’t aware it was on. The Media Pardy gave her a pass on that . Had she been from a conservative party she’d have been pilloried as a brainless , out of touch , not up to portfolio bimbo ……..( Contrast her treatment by the Media to that of Brash’s whom they went all out to make unelectable ) Agenda.
      
      Labour didn’t win the following election < Peters annointed them .
      
      Then came a series of unfortunate events , all of which she merely " appeared" to be kind in . The Media continued to promote that .
      
      The true proof of the pudding is in Duncan Garners' words "they couln't deliver a letter"

Well that is certainly what this years New Years Honours List would suggest.

These honours seem kind of random. Dave Dobbyn does not seem to me to be a brilliant musician. The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra has several world class players. AFAIK none of these players have even received any honours.

National would be smart to make use of the chance to get media coverage in the holiday season.

There’s a dearth of news, and the second teams are holding the forts while the Leftist lackeys enjoy the fruits of capitalism at the beach. It’s the same whether it’s State TV, State radio, or the subsidised newspapers.

They will be scrabbling to find interesting news.

It’s a good chance to get coverage if you pick issues with a bit of oomph to attract the readers.

Religionists who would restrict our freedom of speech seem aware of this. Don’t bump into them or otherwise upset them at the supermarket or mall. Otherwise you’ll likely feature in video or audio clips on the media … and get thrown out of store.

  I have commented before that I am a strong defender of freedom of speech. But it is never acceptable to approach am obviously Muslim person in a shopping mall and aggressively tell them “to go back to your own country.”

    One thing I can say about all the years I lived in Thailand. Nobody ever had a go at me because I was a foreigner.
    Earlier on before I figured things out some taxi drivers & others would try and pull the wool over my eyes, but that was about it.
    Sharp practice wasn’t just exercised on foreigners, mind you. One fine day a bunch of the family hired a boat on the Mae Khlong, which is a wide slow moving river. Once we were out in mid stream the driver cut the engine & announced the price had suddenly doubled.
    Unfortunately for him he didn’t realize he was dealing with the stingiest family of Thais in SEAsia.
    Nobody said a word, but I’m here to say where my sister in law spat that day, that boat don’t hold water no more!

    Benedict, I’m sure it was an unpleasant experience for you, and really poor form by whoever slagged you off. But you didn’t go running to the media and use the incident to call for tougher laws surrounding free speech.
    Which happened in this case, with our Human Rights Commissioner, Meng Foon, jumping in right on cue to remind us that this is a good example of why we need more restrictions, even I think the incident was just uncalled for rudeness.

      I sympathise with Benedict, but I recall being called “gweilo” more than once in dark back blocks of Hong Kong. This is a derogatory term Cantonese speakers use to describe White people.
      
      I laughed it at off, as my friends would, and just as I would let go someone ranting at me in a supermarket over a minor incident. If I had griped to the Hong Kong police I would have been rightly laughed at, and my fight-or-flight reaction didn’t and doesn’t include whingeing to the media.
      
      Racism is everywhere. If it’s only words, and not a physical threat or some infringement of your right to do something, let it go.
      
      I’ve been sceptical about racist incidents such as the Rangiora one at the centre of this discussion since a group of Muslim girls in Waikato naturally took offence at the abusive ranting of a drunk Maori girl.
      
      In court, the Waikato Maori girl proved to be a hapless near-idiot, and one Muslim girl proved to be the public relations officer of a prominent New Zealand organisation.
      
      The court action; the public denunciation; the pretentious, self-righteous lecturing by the all and sundry; the self-righteous sermons in the Woke media; and the solemn police warnings to all were out of proportion to the offence.
      
      Meng Foon is under the command of the Left-wing Corbynist who runs the Human Rights Commission.
      
      How ironic, that the “human rights” commission has become a leader in the charge to slash our freedom of speech. It deserves to be abolished.
      
      To my mind, Meng Foon raises questions about his fitness to be Race Relations Commissioner by his praise today of the abject apology by Stuff for its allegedly racist reporting over a century. This was an unjustified apology by a tiny sector on behalf of a large group insulted a large racial group.
      
      Meng Foon showed his ignorance in labelling a national policy of assimilation as racist.
      
      You may disagree with assimilation and support multiculturism, but assimilation is the “melting pot” policy of the United States that saw that great country absorb people of many races and cultures.
      
      Assimilation does not by definition entail measures such as those being used by China against the Uighurs in the territory to the north-west China officially took over in 1949.
      
      Assimilation is an alternative route to multiculturism. It promotes one dominant culture and language. If people of various countries voluntarily, and even enthusiastically, migrate to a country with a policy of assimilation rather than multiculturism, these migrants are choosing the hope and goal of equality.
      
      Meng Foon ought to try selling multiculturism to the peoples of the former Yugoslavia, or the present day people of Latvia and Estonia with their big Russian minorities, or to the Tigray minority of Ethiopia who would love their own small state.
      
      By branding a national policy of assimilation as racist, Meng Foon leaps to a simplistic conclusion that brands as racist hundreds of millions of decent, civilised people. He also diluted the meaning and power of the word “racism”.

        I agree – I don’t think it should be illegal to say to someone “go back to your own country”. Because where do you draw the line?
        
        But we should encourage a culture that yelling insults at someone in a shopping mall is unacceptable and, critically, the passers by who witness such behaviour need to step in. I would.
        
        If the person saying “go back to your country” then proceeds to issue threats of violence or harm, then they can be arrested as we already have laws to deal with that.
        
        If someone comes up to me and says “You look Taiwanese. I hate all Taiwanese people” I will be offended but that does not make that action illegal. We do not have a right to be free of offence. Just free from harm.
        
        I heard the idiot mayor of Queenstown on the radio who literally said “Criticising someone’s religion is hate speech.” What crap. Imagine if it had been illegal to criticise the Catholic Church over the last 200 years!

You know the ones – they don’t have safe following distances, they weave in and out of traffic, they drive faster than it is safe to do so. They scare the shit out of you. We have set up a dedicated unit to deal with these people. If you see one of these idiots on the road immediately phone this number [xxx] with your location and as many details as possible, and with the licence plate number if you can get it. The nearest patrol car will be immediately on to it.

Last night I drove back to Christchurch on the Southern motorway. Traffic was very light. Fine weather. It would have been perfectly safe to drive at 130. I remember when

Out in the garden late afternoon yesterday when a little petite Chinese lady headed for my letterbox.
I took the pamphlet from her thinking it might be of a religious nature.
It read ‘End CCP’ and Eliminate the Demon CCP and Now Sign The Petition.
She said she had fled from the Chinese Communist Party twenty years ago. That she was worried that they were infiltrating our Institutions. Seemed pleased to have a chance to express her concerns to someone.
Yes the pamphlet does mention Falun Gong.

  Feeding hungry kids at school isn’t Socialism’s biggest fault. Helping poor young women who can’t go to school during their periods because there is no money in the house for sanitary products isn’t either. I would have thought that a good capitalist like yourself would recognise that any country as small as this can’t afford to leave anyone regardless of gender or social class uneducated because of poverty, because it just reduces the number and quality of the available pool of workers.

    That’s why we have agencies, to help the less well off – but on a case by case basis. This blanket policy isn’t needed and will be taken advantage of. Because a few girls can’t afford period products doesn’t mean that you make them free for everyone. That is stupid and expensive. It also doesn’t make any sense. The Warehouse is selling a 10 pack of sanitary pads for $1. Don’t tell me that families with laptops and big screen TVs can’t afford that. Or can’t get help from WINZ (or whatever Maori name they are going by now) to afford that. I won’t believe you.

    Pool of workers? Get real fernglas. We probably have per-head of population the greatest pool of unemployed youth in the world and they are sitting on their arses doing sweet FA by choice. They have all had their chance at education and for reasons best known to them, they did not take advantage of it.
    I do not contribute to the notion that taxpayers should support these people and nor do I contribute to the notion that we taxpayers should undertake to feed and clothe their offspring. This is socialism 101 IMO and we need a Govt. that has the balls to say enough is enough and everyone who brings a child into this world is responsible for it until such time as it is of an age whereby it can leave school and fend for itself.
    Yes, there will be a few that fall through the net and we taxpayers should support them but such occurrences should be the exception rather than the rule.

  Fletch, same problem with the planned handout of ‘free’ computers to disadvantaged kids stuck at home during lockdown (if that even happened).
  Will the free lunches even get to the right kids, or will other family members grab the food.
  Giving away ‘free’ stuff in an uncontrolled environment doesn’t work, but I do think we have a collective duty to help kids who are poor, and suffering for reasons beyond their control like belonging to crap families.

Yesterday I watched the cricket, which for a large part of the day, if not most of the match, was just a little on the tedious side.
However you’ll never be a fan of test cricket if you’re not prepared to pay close attention while nothing much is going on & what do you know Lanky Jamison & Neil Busted Toes Wagner start running through the opposition and Santiner, after five days of innocuous bowling starts bowling hand grenades.
Now the team are #1 without any rock stars.

    I don’t think MCos was under appreciating the ebbs and flows, so much as highlighting them. 🙂
    One of the beauties of test cricket is that a tedious passage of play can transform into the spectacular in just a few balls. It is something that only the long form of the game truly excells at.
    
    I don’t regard calling passages of play or even whole test matches tedious as being a case of not appreciating the subtleties. The strategic nature gives it a level of appeal and interest at the time, but with some matches whole passages of play bear a re watch, while with others the highlight balls are enough.
    
    Where I am not sure I agree with MCos is that I am not sure the team has no Rock star level talent players. I think a few are genuinely up there on the world class scale. I just don’t think they are feted as they would be if they played for some other countries. And they don’t behave like rock stars, they seem really well grounded, which I see as a positive.

  They are rioting because they are given clean clothes once a week that don’t always fit. Not given blankets. Water coming out of the tap is brown. Over crowded, given toilet paper every three days. For the Twittering classes the obsession with identity seemingly informs their approach to, well, everything. Even a pandemic. This led to some claiming that female leaders were handling the Covid crisis better than male leaders because they were, er, women… Few of their champions seemed ready to examine the real reasons why New Zealand, Germany and Taiwan (three wealthy and differently populated countries) might have fared better in the early stages of the pandemic. Instead, it was enough to praise their female leaders for their sheer female-ness and thus for showing ‘the world how to manage a messy patch for our human family’.

Republican Senator Hawley CONFIRMS Electoral Vote Objection, Biden’s Election WILL be Contested. With a Senator finally signing on to object we can expect to see a debate in the joint session of congress on January 6th. While it may make for good signaling it is likely to fail as even mitch McConnell has called on Republicans not to object. Trump would need a majority of both houses in order to change the outcome of the election at this point and with Democrat and Republican leadership rejecting the notion of contesting the election Trump will not likely get a majority in either chamber. However, on the ground will be Trump’s most ardent supporters flooding DC and demanding the results be overturned.

When you buy a house in Auckland you pay a premium for all of the Auckland externalities after having discounted all the disbeneifits of say the traffic the Council etc. Add to this the tax free wealth windfalls and prices merely measure these forces in balance. Supplyside tangles and continuing government misdirection add unnecessary beaucratic costs as well.

Yesterday, at General Debate, Fletch (at 4:39PM, in response to curry4me’s 1:45PM comment, to do with Vice President Pence’s role in the certification of the electoral votes on January 6) said, “Yep, he is suing for Pence to be able to do his job and follow the constitution in order that votes be cast for Trump.”

Earlier, WaynelSexton (at 10:28AM) had stated, “You may or may not know, but the Vice President gets to count the electors.”

Both these statements are incorrect. (Ehlana – 9:54AM – if you haven’t already done so, now would be the time to avert your eyes.)

This has come about because of a crackpot lawsuit by Texas Republican Congressman (and Trump supporter) Louie Gohmert (and the 11 [fake] Republican electors of Arizona), which “asks a federal court to instruct Vice President Mike Pence, as president of the Senate, to exercise what the suit calls his ‘sole’ and ‘exclusive’ authority to choose which electors to count on Jan. 6.”

But, contrary to what Fletch would have us believe, Pence has no such authority. VP Pence’s only constitutional role on January 6 (which is purely ‘ministerial’ / ceremonial), is to “open all the certificates”. That’s it! He has no other duty. Yes, Amendment XII then states, “and the votes shall then be counted”, but it doesn’t specify by whom, or the procedures to be followed. That was left up to Congress.

To be crystal clear, Amendment XII most certainly does not, as Gohmert asserts, specify powers “which grant the Vice President the exclusive authority and sole discretion in determining which electoral votes to count.”

As it happens, in 1887, Congress passed the Electoral Count Act. That Act sets out precisely how the count on January 6, that Pence will merely preside over, is to proceed. It is all laid out here: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/3/15. (It is worthwhile reading the entire section. For those who are interested, it is also worthwhile hitting the ‘prev’ button, and reading sections 5 [Determination of controversy as to appointment of electors] and 6 [Credentials of electors; etc.].)

Yes, U.S. District Court Judge Jeremy Kernodle of the Eastern District of Texas has agreed to partially grant the request for “an expedited schedule”, but make no mistake, this lawsuit will be thrown out.

Called in to visit an old mate who lives next to a popular camping spot, he had a couple of visitors and we got yarning.
Turns out theyre both prison gaurds down here so the topic turned to the lil riot and how theyre protesting “treatment and conditions”, anyways they were saying at the prison they work at earlier this year the prisoners were being right … [deleted – sorry one of the banned words here. Mod.] so management dealt a punishment and almost caused a fullscale riot due to “treatment and conditions”… how horrible was the punishment you ask???? They disabled netflix…. i shit you not these delinquent fuckers have it all in there its a fucking joke, never thought is say it but prisoners are an entitled bunch of … ts!!

I remember when

If Managed In Quarantine was a country or an Australian State it would be dominating the headlines – imagine the ‘scary’ stories .
Another batch of new covid-19 cases has been added to the existing outbreaks.
There seems no end to the problem of regular outbreaks of covid-19 in MIQ.
Then if you weren’t ‘scared’ enough – surely only a matter of time before there is a death.

  There are currently 55 active cases in managed isolation.
  Everyday some arriving people test positive & some recover.
  NZ can’t help it if people are coming home from countries such as the US, the UK, various EU countries, etc where the virus has not been suppressed.
