I wonder what our Prime Minister’s plan is now after hearing the news the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid vaccine shot has less effectiveness against the South African variant-Study.
News Zealand has a pre purchase agreement to vaccinate 3.5 million people with the Astrazeneca vaccines part of the mass vaccination campaign due to start in mid year and has also ordered 750,000 Pfizer domestic vaccinate with the first batch due by the end of March.

  I’m guessing they just have an agreement to buy them. But have they actually bought any vaccines yet?
  
  We were told we were at the front of the queue, but in reality we weren’t even lining up in the queue yet for those and we are still in the supermarket carpark waiting for someone to decide if we should go and buy something.

    I’d love to see a reporter call her on this, just saying she “refutes” something is not refuting it, they need to press her on that statement.
    Something, of course, she knows full well and that they won’t.
    The problem is what passes for reporters in this country is dismal, none of them have the intellectual capacity to think on their feet and put this charlatan on the spot.

    Every time I see her move her head I get a flash back to those garishly-painted clown heads I used to see at carnival sideshows.
    If you managed to time it right when you rolled a ping pong ball into the clown’s open mouth, you walked away with a pathetic little prize.

    Because winter will soon be upon us and the vaccine has cough mixture in it and globalists like Kamala and Jacinda think it’s better to do it this way from now on, everyone will think it’s warmer than it really is so they won’t use as much energy to keep warm, so clearly the benefits of the vaccine are mainly for those who aren’t born yet. Lockdowns, lockouts and train less and car less days all help too. Boomers are gonna die in increasingly large numbers anyway from now on , and the cough mixture will ease their choking.       Why don’t we Friday-is some holidays instead of Monday-ising them? Some people have to work on the weekends and usually don’t work Mondays so they miss out on Monday-ised holidays.
      
      Also Friday-Used holidays are better because its like having two Saturdays, whereas Mondayised holidays are like having two Sundays.
      
      I think that if a holiday falls on a Saturday, then take the Friday off, and if it falls on a Sunday then take the Monday off. Or just don’t take any extra days off.

        John Key and his 2008 Government were elected with a mandate to repeal the excesses of the Clark/Cullen government. Unfortunatey throughout his time as PMl he chose the Labour lite path with more excesses – mandayisation of public holidays being but one example.

Matthew Tukaki was recently announced as chairperson of the Oranga Tamariki (Ministry of Children) Ministerial Advisory Board.

Over the past few days he has launched abusive and bullying tirades against several current and former Members of Parliament. I encourage you all to take a look for yourselves.

Mr Tukaki states that he is a “suicide prevention advocate”, yet publicly stoops to immature and possibly drunken name-calling and mud-slinging at public officials.

This is not the type of person who should be guiding how we manage our most vulnerable children.

Minister Kelvin Davis should immediately remove Matthew Tukaki from the advisory board.

Look at all the sweeping claims and assertions put up about what NZers think, or thought, over time. About what we supposedly felt about our Chinese or Indian, or other ‘non-white’ fellow community members.

“They’re not one of us”, “they always will be foreigners..” etc etc.

What disgraceful slurs on the good people of NZ. Not once in my 55 years living in NZ have I ever held those views or anything like them. The idea that my Chinese or Indian childhood mates were ‘not one of us’, or any ‘less’ of a New Zealander, was abhorrent then as it is now.

And just by the way if I went to live in rural China or India or Japan or Korea do we really not think that there would not be an element within those countries who would regard me as a foreigner? Not ‘one of us?’ You’d be a mug to think that – so it is not a ‘white’ thing it is, I maintain, hard-wired into us through evolution – suspicion of the ‘other’.

I really think we’ve reached a point in this country where our preoccupation with race has become unhealthy as is the attempt to make me be responsible and feel guilty for things I did not do or views I have never held.

I reserve special contempt though for the comment of Dr David Tokiharu Mayeda – “But ancestors of Pākehā migrants brought with them a level of power, enabling them to change the systems in Aotearoa to focus on economy and profit. This meant other migrant groups were working within the confines of systems created by European settlers.”

He says it like this is a bad thing? Immigrants to NZ enjoy one of the best countries in the world; prosperous, generous, follows the rule of law, great public institutions, largely corruption-free, power changes hands peacefully, largely conflict free, freedom of speech etc etc etc – but because these are ‘European’ systems they deserve spitting on? Or that other systems will bring better results?

Finally, I notice that Dr David Tokiharu Mayeda does his spitting while occupying his taxpayer-funded University position. A well-padded beneficiary of a ‘European system’ if I’ve ever seen one. Better if he went out and learnt plumbing or how to fix cars. You know, actually do something useful for a change.

  Totally agree. New Zealand was not going to stay undiscovered. Maori got the absolute best case scenario.
  
  The second best scenario would have been the French. Today New Zealand would be like New Caledonia. A greatly reduced Maori population with zero support and no Treaty. It would have been “Congratulations you are French”.
  
  Third best scenario would have been disorganised occupation by a number of countries. Think PNG today.
  
  Worst case scenario. The Spanish. All Maori would have been killed.

    Some countries were never colonized.
    Thailand/Siam is one of them. It’s been invaded by whatever Burma was called at the time, but kicked the bastards out.
    NZ was settled by those who came to be known as Maori. Pre treaty the British may have considered it a colony, but most people didn’t know what a colony was.
    Anyone can stick a flag in the ground and say they claim the land or whatever. All you buggers better read up about property law.
    NZ never even came close to being a French, Spanish, German, Japanese colony so there’s no point in waving that big stick.

      He’s talking specifically about the myth o f the race , there was no race as the Froggy capt took a leisurely sail to Akaroa . He’s not saying “it didn’t happen” .it did happen , the Frogs were on the way to colonise Akaroa.

  To his dying day (and beyond) my father was referred to as a scot, a scotsman, scottish, a Jock..even though he had lived in the country for 50+ years and served in the NZ Forces.
  
  The F-in-law was always referred to as “the German” at his P.N. work-place. My husband is frequently asked how long he has lived in NZ (born & bred in P.N.).
  Crikey, I’ve even had trolls on this blog querying how long I have lived in NZ.

  Until perhaps as late as even the early 2000s, apart from the odd Chinese, there were effectively no non-European settlers to New Zealand. This was deliberate policy dating from our inception and was based empirically on the comparative states of affairs in, say, Africa versus Europe. Our forebears correctly did not want anyone from stock who had not demonstrated any inclination or ability to build and sustain a modern society. It may well have been a racist policy, but it had the desired effect: we transferred our Europeanness to what was an undeveloped land mass, and duly became an advanced nation in no time.
  
  We used to know that race is real meaning that real differences between races exist and therefore altering the racial balance in a territory will have tangible negative effects. The same view of immigration was held in the the US. This myth that it was “always a nation of immigrants” is true to some extent (certainly, post late 18th century when the US actually became a nation one could emigrate to), but until the 1960s, they did not take effectively any people from non-European countries.

      No Indians settled NZ as far as I am aware. Lots of them have since immigrated to enjoy the benefits flowing from settlement by predominantly Europeans, but like the other late-comers, the party of nationhood was already in full swing and in excellent working order when they turned up.

  One of my forebears came out from England in the mid 19th century and brought a flock of Romneys with him. Married local, raised a bunch of excellent farmers who also married local. With National looking to start no confidence proceedings in the Speaker, I recall seeing an interview on RNZ where Arden was asked if she had signed off on the payment, she replied “no” laughed it off the deflected onto another topic.

However, it was later pointed out the the party leader must sign off any legal costs incurred by any MPs. So was she lying (shock horror) or did she not know what she signed off?

It seems that the fashionable thing today is to have a trans gender child. I was gob smacked yesterday when a colleague proudly told me her 15 year old son had come out as transgender. She went on to tell me that he has had all sorts of learning difficulties, etc, etc, etc. She blames his transgenderism, I’m inclined to think that he mistakenly thinks that if he changes sex he will feel better about himself. I am finding it hard to believe that the world is awash with people who think they are the wrong sex. I suspect, in years to come, there will be court cases about this. It is quite the trendy thing, isn’t it? What got me was that this woman telling me was so proud, seemed like “I’m now one of the in crowd”. If it was my child I’d feel incredibly sad for them.

  When I went into teaching in the mid 1990s, folks were doping up their children with ritalin because someone had diagnosed them with them ADHD.
  
  At one school, I was told that I’d have to give a 14 year old boy his dose of ritalin at lunch-time.
  
  I told the management in no uncertain terms that I’d do nothing of the sort and that they were fools to be medicating a child without medical/nursing training.
  
  Next minute… the mother is asked to come to the school each lunchtime to deliver the dose…After a term or so, the child seemed not to require his lunchtime dose.

    I saw an ADHD expert on the Dr Phill show years ago.
    
    He stated that he had quite a few thousand kids referred to him for treatment but in his lifetime had only seen a few genuine cases.
    
    He gave an example of a test for ADHD which was when the child was throwing a tantrum because they couldn’t get something they wanted let them rant for a while then hand it to them. The genuine ADHD kid has forgotten what the issue was that started the tantrum so receiving the item will not stop the tantrum.
    
    The little shit who just used the tantrum to get their own way stops immediately.
    
    I coached junior sport for over 10 years, often more than one team at a time plus school teams and in that time met heaps of little shits but not a single genuine ADHD kid despite mums telling me numerous times that their child was “special”.

  If I remember correctly, he made a comment along the lines of “The rapist has left the building”. He also said earlier, when the report was released, “We’re talking about serious sexual assault. Well that, for me, that’s rape,”

Accepting what we know is from media reporting. Of course in that frame saying “along the lines of “The rapist has left the building” can easily be taken and turned into him definitively saying exactly those words.

With Dame Patsy finishing her term as Governor General in late August and an annoucement of her successor due soon it is interesting to speculate on who that person will be. One thing for sure he or she will have to tick all the WOKE boxes so that narrows the field considerably. Maybe some readers on here may have some thoughts on the matter???

My wife has been in the hospital since Friday mid day.
She is very ill, Pulmonary Hypertension and chronic heart failure….had it for 2 years so lately hospital visits are more regular…told she is dying…just when.
This NOT the story
Today the community clinical nurse came to the house.
1. Why didn’t the hospital tell her, saving her a wasted visit?
We talked for a minute, as I had been told that they were on a skeleton staff every weekend.
I asked why, as this is their busiest time.
She said…”To save money, they don’t want to pay the extra salary”.
If true, this decision comes from the very top.
More BS service from the Labour govt….
Back to the Clark/ King health service.
Waiting lists and cancer treatment in Australia.

So you are not required to wear a mask while waiting at a bus stop. You can wait at a bus stop with a group of people for more than fifteen minutes and you are still not required to wear a muzzle. Sometimes Public transport arrives at five minute intervals, fifteen minute intervals, half an hour or an hour it varies according to the time of day (obviously).
You are considered at risk of catching Covid if you are within close proximity for fifteen minutes or longer.
So muzzling commuters on public transport is somewhat pointless depending on the time of day and the wait time.
Not sure why they are continuing to enforce this practice?
Feel bad for the bus drivers being forced to wear something that looks like it belong on a movie set from Aliens all day.
Maybe commonsense would be just enforcing muzzles during peak time or am i missing something here?.
