Still think Biden is doing a good job? Former ICE Director Tomas Homan (who worked under previous U.S Administrations including Obama and Trump) has pointed out that to all intents and purposes America is now a sanctuary country, thanks to the executive orders Biden has just signed. He has canceled ICE without cancelling ICE.

The former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan said Wednesday that President Joe Biden “has declared the entire country a sanctuary jurisdiction,” and that “more tragedies are going to come.”

A spokesperson for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said Sunday, according to Fox News, the agency “recently rescinded two 2018 policy memos related to the issuance of Notices to Appear when processing requests for immigration benefits,” and “was directed to rescind the relevant policy in a [Department of Homeland Security] memo issued Jan. 20.”

Homan told “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday that “People will die, people will be raped, people will be victimized by criminals that shouldn’t even be here. It’s coming,” adding “the border is surging,” and this is what the current administration desires.

“95% of the criminals I.C.E. have arrested are now off the table,” he continued. “They’re free in the community.”

Homan said: “They [Biden administration officials] fail to mention the surge at the border is of their own making because of their promises and their enticements; that’s why there’s a surge at the border.”

He went on to say “this is designed to be this way.”

“They’re bringing millions of people into this country who will now be counted on the Census,” he said, adding, “which leads to seats in the House, Electoral College, and elections.

“This is power over public safety. The quest for power over protecting American citizens.”

  I’ve never thought he was doing a good job, has ever done a good job or is ever likely to do a good job. I suppose for the TDS sufferers he did the only thing that was required of him – unseat the President who got more votes when going for re-election than any other POTUS ever – but let’s not kid ourselves that he had much if anything to do with the result.
  
  And let’s not kid ourselves he’ll be anything other than a doddery old fool, obediently moving his limbs in response to the pulling of strings by his puppet-masters.

Please can someone please distinguish the difference in offences and give a answer why Chris Bishop gets to have a date with the privileges Committee and Trevor Mallard the Speaker who has reported him for editing a video gets off after libelous statements that cost the taxpayer over $350,000 and the victims his job, also telling the NZ Population that the Rapist is no longer in the house before evidence was even produced.

    This is unbelievable, how many of these people who have left for Australia will have indicated they plan to be in NZ for 90+ days and MBIE won’t have bothered to track them?
    The MIQ system is a very expensive joke among many jokes the political response to a virus has caused. The best joke being this comment from Chris Hipkins “”We do not want to restrict people’s ability to travel”, what have you (politicians in general) done to us since March 2020 except totally stop us from traveling as we want to?
    We are sheep led by clowns and it is time we stood up and said enough.

      You’ll get fined by customs for a false declaration of food items, how many times are you reminded that the arrival card is a legal document? Yet they’re letting people get away with false declarations to get into MIQ without paying.
      
      Put anyone getting an exemption from the MIQ fee onto a no-fly list for 90 days, enforced at the border. If for some reason you need to leave NZ before then, you can get off the no-fly list by paying the $3,000.

        On arrival card it asks how long are you staying in NZ?
        Maybe this is not “captured” by new E gates and should be?
        In my mind, Like a Credit Card, Take it upon arrival. If no money then shouldnt fly in first place.
        Isnt this what loopey greens did’nt want to discriminate against people who could’nt afford the 3K?
        And hence now free for all and no obligation to pay.

      I’d happiliy pay 3K to secure a spot upon arrival instead of a lotto system where it is impossible to obtain due to my job at short notice.
      After reading about all sorts of “key workers” getting in and the sheer impossibility of myself and 100’s other International NZ seafarers that gaining a Voucher is an impossibility.
      What to do.
      Others like myself have a moral obligation to keep supply chains running even if NZ Government does not understand this.
      I’m sure all exporters are greatful along with Importers, But after that I seriously have my doubts.

      Catholics and Anglicans in Australia are being advised they can request a different jab because aborted fetal cells were used in development of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
      
      Catholic and Anglican archbishops have told newspapers that while it was ethical for people with concerns to take the AstraZeneca vaccine if necessary, they should be entitled to request a different jab.
      
      A spokesman for the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, Anthony Fisher, is reported as saying:

  Hundreds of people have flown to Australia (where isolation costs thousands) soon after leaving managed isolation (in nz where isolation is free), but the Government has no way of knowing if people are abusing the system. (? do we need an investigation? Or do we just need to charge for quarantine like oz? The number of returning nzers leaving just after the required three months would also be interesting)

    Imagine turning up to check into a 4- or 5-star hotel and being told “No, you don’t have to pay anything now. You don’t need to give us a credit card imprint to secure any charges. We’ll just send you an invoice and hope you’ll pay us when you’re good and ready. Please leave a forwarding address when you fly to Oz next week.”?

    Quarantine in NSW $3,000 AUD ($3200 NZD)
    Quarantine NSW $2800 AUD ($3005 NZD)
    
    NZ Quarantine $3100.
    Makes no sense financially to fly to NZ then on to Aus to “”save”” fees.
    
    Regards NZ skipping to Aus without paying.
    Immigration computers are already sharing data across other government computers (eg IRD,Social Welfare)
    
    However I would have to agree that MIQ(administered by MBIE)Thats Ministry of Business Innovation & Employment. Couldnt organise a pissup in a brewery(systems wise).
    
    Yes I have come in from overseas, yes I have a business systems background. I was appaled at their systems. In my view a 16 year old high school kid could have done better over a weekend.
    But MBIE have had effing months to sort this stuff out.
    Lets hope the Hipkins review is done by a non bureaucrat adult with no skin in the game!!

      I see how it works now vis-a-vis the Aus fees. Yes. Fly to NZ. Say Oh. We are here for 90 days to see your wonderful country. MIQ no fee. Fly out to Aus and no fee there either.
      The obvious question is why are these people not paying the $3100 up front before they land in NZ. Then after they have spent 90 days in our wonderful country they front up at the special desk and receive their money back.
      
      The people who are this Gov’t and the people who work directly for this Gov’t are actually quite stupid.

    You are half correct, Queensland charges but doesn’t follow up outstanding accounts, NSW has done all the heavy lifting with other states refusing to pay what they agreed, The world gold standard Victorian system now has 1500 victorians forced into quarantine in Queensland, entire state locked down,international flights cancelled, state country tennis at swan hill cancelled, Tennis Australia continues without spectators.
    NZ is looking like a fabulous option regardless of cost.

      Chris Hipkins walked a political tightrope on State TV 1’s Q and A today, as Creepy Jack repeatedly tried to pin him down on a racial order for Covid vaccination.
      
      Hipkins stayed on the politically safe non-committal line on vaccination and skin colour. The questions:
      
      Are Maori and Pacific Islanders over 50 going to get priority over other over-50s in New Zealand vaccination?
      
      Should (NZ ensure with its supply that ) Pacific Island populations be vaccinated first (before NZ)?
      
      Hipkins said border workers included a high proportion of Maori and P. Islanders, a work group that is prioritised for vaccination.
      
      Otherwise Hipkins would not commit to a racial order in vaccination.
      
      He did say Australia would supply vaccinations to Melanesian islands (which would include Fiji), and New Zealand would supply Polynesian islands.

      I read a media report saying the submission response has been staggering and the article was astonished by the depth of racism in NZ against Maori. I did a submission because I see the way the Government has handled this as being corrupt and the fact that large sections of the media have barely reported on it show a repugnant level of bias.

  Back in January, he said that there “was no evidence” that people were doing this, despite the fact that he was being questioned due to the recent revelation that 12 people from the Pullman hotel had done just that. If that is not evidence I don’t know what is. One would have expected more urgency over the investigation into how often it was happening.

Nurses receive ACC for covid caught at work. Does this mean everybody who catches Covid will have an ACC claim? When did an illness become an injury? Will this decision also apply to the flu, common cold and other viruses or bacteria?

    Infections caught during the course of employment have been counted as work related and liable for compensation by ACC, if not for always, then for many years. I know Hep B work related infections in medical staff have been recognised for ACC since at least the 1980’s. So why not Covid-19?

Obviously it is written presuming the vaccine(s) actually work. Vaccine to travel is a no brainer. In the 50s and 60s one needed to have inoculations for a number of diseases before one could travel to many countries.
Personally to travel I would have the vaccine if it meant that one avoided quarantine on return to NZ.

  Next morning I was out of bed at 5 a.m. to help on the farm; by 5.10 a.m. I was back in bed as I was knocked for a row of shit cans by the innoculation. Thankfully for just one day.

        None of the three impeached presidents had articles of impeachment brought against them for (alleged) actions, by them, that were committed or carried out prior to becoming president.
        
        In my view, Biden and/or Harris cannot be impeached (by a future Republican-majority House) and convicted (by a two-thirds majority Republican Senate) for anything they have done prior to 20 January 2021.
        
        Not only would that unquestionably be unconstitutional, but, it would surely mean that the valuable time of both the House and Senate would continually be dominated by impeachment and trial proceedings.

        Holding PUBLIC OFFICE is not the standard to be eligible for impeachment, RW, however much you would like it to be.
        
        Impeachment and conviction only applies to civil officers of the United States. I invite you to do your own research, but such officers are persons “who hold their appointments under the national government, whether their duties are executive or judicial, in the highest or lowest departments; of the government, with the exception of officers of the army and navy [and, presumably, the air force].”
        
        US Representatives and Senators are not considered to be civil officers of the United States — see the Senator Blount case of 1797 (House) and 1799 (Senate).
        
        So, yes (a slight correction here, on my part), Biden could be impeached for some alleged crime or misdemeanor committed while he was Vice President, but not for anything allegedly committed prior to, or after, holding that office.

    National have been losing their way for decades – if in fact they were ever on the right path in the first place.
    
    Muldoon was the greatest socialist Prime Minister we’ve ever had, say some, and I couldn’t disagree with them.
    
    The only thing I can say about National these days is that they are moving towards our ruin at a slower rate than Labour and the Greens.
    
    I saw some information the other day that NZ (central) government spending was 25% in the early 70s (local government spending was on top of this).
    
    This year our spending is up over 50% ($129B 2020 forecast spending versus a 2019 GDP of $209Bn) and looks to remain that way for years, even decades, to come.
    
    It has doubled in less than 50 years (and, again, local govt spending is on top of this).
    
    So, at the current trajectory, by 2060 NZ govt spending will be 100% of GDP.
    
    It’ll be the whole nation crying into their cornflakes then Mike, except of course Labour and Green MPs. They’ll still be there, on their fat salaries, holding the red flag aloft and exhorting us forward to the glory of the state.

    Of course, I have no time whatsoever for religion and I think ‘praying away the gay’ is flawed from the outset – but isn’t this a question of freedom of thought, of association and speech?
    
    If a New Zealander wishes to consult with another New Zealander over any matter or issue – what possible business is it of the Green and Labour parties making this unlawful?
    
    What precedent does this set? What next acts will they criminalise between consenting adults?
    
    At times, I would like to criminalise spiritual mediums, religious clerics, astrologers, politicians who lie; because they make money under false pretences – but then I wake up and think, no, there’s a question of free speech and association which is sacrosanct.

    The problem is “gay conversion therapy” is defined as ANY attempt to tell a person questioning their sexuality that “no, you are not gay, if you have testicular and XY you are a man, and if you have a uterus and are XX you are a woman”. this means if you go to your pastor or even parent to ask for advice, under the green’s proposal you could be causing them to commit a crime just by telling you their opinion.

      If you voice an opinion to some person on a sexual/gender matter, that doesn’t make you a therapist.
      
      If someone explains a religious text wrt to sexual or gender matters, then that doesn’t make them a therapist.
      
      But from what I read.. Conversion therapy is being offered in NZ…
      
      A 2018 TVNZ documentary found conversion therapy is available in New Zealand and is most often practised in private and faith-based institutions.

  I very much doubt that any gays would be being forced into doing conversion therapy these days. So, essentially, a law like this would be banning the free choice of a person with same sex attraction.
  
  This has more to do with banning what gay people see as criticism; as being a threat. If people can be counselled away from the gay lifestyle then it really isn’t innate – a challenge to the “born this way” mantra. And they can’t have that. But we knew this sort of stuff was coming with a gay-centric liberal government.

Richard Burr of North Carolina, and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania are retiring so don’t care.

Susan Collins of Maine will likely retire at the 2026 election so doesn’t care. Few Trump supporters in Maine anyway.

Lisa Murkowski of Alaska knows Trump will campaign against her anyhow and has long been hated by a chunk of the Alaska GOP anyhow, having lost the primary several years ago.

Bill Cassidy of Louisiana will get screwed next Senate election

Mitt Romney of Utah will get screwed but probably doesn’t know it.

Ben Sasse of Nebraska not up for re-election until 2026 and won in 2020 on an anti-Trump platform.

As far as the GOP Senators who voted not to convict Trump they probably fall into the following categories:
1. Those who supported much, but not all, of his policies.

2. Those who didn’t care but are up for re-election in 2022 or 2024 and can see that Trump’s shadow looms large. They’ll relax after 2024.

3. Those who were opposed to much of Trump’s policies, likely especially on trade, industrial protection and foreign intervention but read the winds of their own voters and still are reading it through 2022 and 2024. Like group 2 they’ll wait this out as all good politicians do.

The biggest problem that groups 2 & 3 have is making the same mistake the Left is making, that this is all about OrangeMan. It’s not: it’s about splits in the GOP (and the Democrats) that have been developing over twenty years while GOP voters sucked it up when presented with Bush, McCain and Romney. And when a GOP leader turns up with the same support in 2024 and beyond, and the same opponents, but with a less toxic personality and approach, these Senators are going to start thinking they should have have retired.

Looking at the four cases where a president has been impeached…

– Andrew Johnson (D). On a mostly party line vote, 10 Republicans crossed the floor to vote Not Guilty on all three articles of impeachment.

– Bill Clinton (D). Again a mostly party line vote, but 10 Republicans voted Not Guilty on the first article, and 5 voted Not Guilty on the second.

– Donald Trump (R), 1st impeachment. Again, mostly party line vote, but one Republican (Mitt Romney) voted Guilty on the first article (but not the second).

– Donald Trump (R), 2nd impeachment. Yet again, mostly party line vote, but 7 Republicans voted Guilty.

So in both non-Trump impeachments, members of the opposing party crossed the floor to vote Not Guilty. In both Trump impeachments, members of his own party crossed the floor to vote Guilty (all that’s just the ones brave enough to go on record).

Claims that the impeachments of Trump are partisan attacks are just laughable.
