From Time Magazine – The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election.

There was a conspiracy unfolding behind the scenes, one that both curtailed the protests and coordinated the resistance from CEOs. Both surprises were the result of an informal alliance between left-wing activists and business titans. The pact was formalized in a terse, little-noticed joint statement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and AFL-CIO published on Election Day. Both sides would come to see it as a sort of implicit bargain–inspired by the summer’s massive, sometimes destructive racial-justice protests–in which the forces of labor came together with the forces of capital to keep the peace and oppose Trump’s assault on democracy.

The handshake between business and labor was just one component of a vast, cross-partisan campaign to protect the election–an extraordinary shadow effort dedicated not to winning the vote but to ensuring it would be free and fair, credible and uncorrupted

So an alliance between left-wing activists, and ‘business titans’ many of whom are simply left-wings activists with vast sums of money. Time attempting to spin this as ‘cross-partisan campaign’ is a bit rich, as is the suggestion that the intention was to ensure the election would be free, fair, credible and uncorrupted.

Their work touched every aspect of the election. They got states to change voting systems and laws and helped secure hundreds of millions in public and private funding. They fended off voter-suppression lawsuits, recruited armies of poll workers and got millions of people to vote by mail for the first time. They successfully pressured social media companies to take a harder line against disinformation and used data-driven strategies to fight viral smears.

Yes, you read that correctly. A bunch of left-wing activists got states to change their voting system and laws. And their ‘harder line against disinformation’ was presumably included denying 80 million people their right to voluntarily hear from the democratically elected president via social media platforms.

“Every attempt to interfere with the proper outcome of the election was defeated,” says Ian Bassin, co-founder of Protect Democracy, a nonpartisan rule-of-law advocacy group. “But it’s massively important for the country to understand that it didn’t happen accidentally. The system didn’t work magically. Democracy is not self-executing.”

That’s why the participants want the secret history of the 2020 election told, even though it sounds like a paranoid fever dream–a well-funded cabal of powerful people, ranging across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information. They were not rigging the election; they were fortifying it.

Democracy is not self executing. It needs a little hand. Leave it to us, we’ll sort it for you. Secretly of course. When a well-funded cabal of powerful left-wing entities secretly changes rules and laws, steer media coverage they are acting nobly, in the best interest of the average voter? Give me strength.

Time has been a GOP/Trump hater since way back, and staunchly urban liberal left, so their spin on this ‘shadowy campaign’ is to be expected. What’s unexpected, for me at least, is the extent to which those who hate Trump have been willing to suspend judgement, or worse, to defend this type of systematic deconstruction of democracy.

  One man’s “saving” is another man’s corruption.
  
  With the way social media engines work there is no way we’re ever going to see another fair election again.
  
  I’m currently reading “The Great Influenza”, a book about the Spanish Flu and the environment it played out in. It is ann American-centric book, so it talks a lot about USA’s very late arrival in the war. Even back then they were distorting the media and playing these games. They obviously didn’t have social media back then, but they pretty much did the same using the technology of the day.
  
  Interestingly, they also had the American Protective League – 250,000 citizens running amok with “Secret Service” badges. All getting the thumbs up from President Wilson. Democrat of course.
  
  So none of this is really new – it’s just intensified with social media being able to craft individual messages for each person.

        That’s about the worst oversimplification of seventy years of American presidential history I’ve seen.
        Take Bush 2 for example. The economy at the conclusion of his tenure was in the worst recession it had been since the Depression. He had had huge public acclaim from his handling of WTC attack, but blew it all away with the invasion of Iraq & the Mission Accomplished banner, which he was blindsided by. That was the most consequential foreign policy blunder the US has, arguably, ever made. Others might argue the floundering round in Asia or South America were worse, depending on your point of view.
        Those Saudis that blew up WTC probably never realized the mayhem they would cause. Was that what Tarrant was dreaming of?
        Carter brokered a two way peace agreement with Israel & Egypt, which was no small thing.

        A depleted military, a devastated infrastructure, record numbers on food stamps (poverty), high unemployment, low wages and as for health the “if you like your Dr, you can keep your Dr” LIE
        We will reduce your health care costs by $1500 per family per yr, when it was closer to double that in INCREASES and co pays doubled, in some states suppliers pulled out and the couldn’t get health care insurance.

    Yep, and in World War II the New York Times even buried what was happening to the Jews in Germany. They basically censored it. Roosevelt did not want to draw attention to the Holocaust. He never mentioned it until a year after it began and no reporter asked him about it. The news was ignored or buried deep in the Times and Washington Post.

        You can continue to denigrate the Republicans but history also tells us that barely 63% of Dems voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Bill while more that 80% of Republicans voted for it.

      Yes Tricati, the Time Magazine article describes the forces behind the “Great Reset” in action. Stealing the US election was a successful project for them, and they can’t help boasting. It’s important to recall their ultimate objective as described by their fierce critic Cardinal Gerhard Muller, “The goal is absolute control of thought, speech and action.” Perhaps that is now our destination in “Aotearoa”/ New Zealand and Robertson doesn’t want to acknowledge it publicly?

  These was nothing secret about the efforts to ensure that the US had fair and credible elections in the face of a pandemic. Making it easier for people to vote was clearly in the interests of democracy and public health. When the federal government, and many state governments, decide that their partisan interests lay elsewhere, it is no surprise that others stepped up.
  Disappointed Trumpistas are still crying and looking for reasons to claim the election was ‘stolen’ from their orange idol.

        Wrong, you are being wilfully mislead by the media. There is widespread evidence of voter fraud.
        
        In Wisconsin, the local Supreme Court has finally ruled that ballots collected after the legal deadline are invalid. That was over 200K ballots, and being mail ins they went around 70% for Biden. The local (Democratic) SOS insisted that they be counted and included in the totals, but as now ruled (and as she was told at the time) that was illegal. Remove those votes and WI goes to Trump, too late now as no doubt planned, but fraudulent vote processing. MI has the same issue, essentially the same laws and the same late ballot issue, as has PA.
        
        And perhaps you can explain just what four Democrat activists were doing in Georgia counting specially selected ballots with no observers in a locked facility. Also why they were improperly running batches through the tabulators multiple times without following the defined process to set aside previous runs before re processing. All on video, and no one in authority has even questioned them. Prima Facie fraud.
        
        Oh, and why you’re at it, if in NZ having 20 people registered to a single residential address is enough to get someone prosecuted, why is having over 6,000 people registered to the same address acceptable in GA ? Just sounds a tad suspicious (as well as exceedingly crowded) to me…

      Great collusion with compromised people. The evidence of the voting machines being attacked is beyond rebuttal. The foreign cyber attacks are documented down to the physical individual computer (MAC) addresses at both ends and includes the number of votes transferred on each occasion. There an enormous number of line items, one for each event. The bulk of the entries are China->USA.

        Mikey, dismissing a case by asserting that the plaintiffs have no standing can be done by a judge for zero reasons. Can be appealed to a higher court, but all takes time. The WI late ballot case was dismissed until the Supreme Court (of WI) took it, and in fact validated the claim. Too late of course, so the tactic of dismissal by biased lower courts worked a treat.

    They illegally changed election law by bypassing State Legislatures – the only ones allowed to change it. Not a State Supreme Court. Not a judge. Not a governor. But they did, allowing fraudulent ballots to be counted – ballots with no postmark, ballots with no signature, ballots where the signature doesn’t match the one on record, ballots accepted both before and after election day.

      The simmering below the surface continues and I am sensing a boil may be developing. Interesting times ahead.
      Ardern R. will probably use the US’s lawlessness as justification to rule by decree. That simplifies govt but unfortunately does nothing to help a hung-dog former Public Service to do anything.

  The states control the registration and voting process. It is well known that a number of states in the old south have made it difficult for black people to vote with excessive identification rules (way beyond anything in NZ).
  
  It is also well known that there have been numerous judicial attempts to wind these requirements back. Obviously this has been supported by wealthy donors. Many of these cases have been successful, in Georgia for instance.
  
  There is no conspiracy here, no fraud here, it has all been played out in the open, in state legislatures, in the courts, in voter registration drives. It is the normal stuff of politics in the USA.

    Wayne, you’re a highly credentialed gentleman. Therefore, your inability to see what is right before your eyes indicates that credentials are no guarantee of deep intelligence. Yours is a naive conception of how the world works if you pull back the curtain. Perhaps your own time in our local swamp has affected your ability to make accurate judgments in this regard.
    
    You know full well that laws in themselves are abstractions. They are, however, applied (or not, as the case may be) by real people, with political leanings who are just as likely to act in a self-preserving fashion, given the right conditions. It’s easy to imagine the threats, implicit or explicit, that bore heavily on the outcomes of various proceedings (if they were ever begun).
    
    “Excessive identification rules”? I wouldn’t have thought that requiring a basic form of ID to verify a legitimate voter is excessive. “Voter suppression” is just a sinister sounding way of describing people with no ID being able to vote.

      Yep, you need I.D for just about everything. A driver’s license, a library card, a supermarket discount card, a passport. Don’t tell me that it is overly difficult for people to obtain when they easily do it for these other requirements. Nobody calls it racist when I.D is required for a library card.     Comparisons have been made between States that have reasonable Voter ID laws and those that basically accept any application, and the difference in registrations (until 2020) is statistically insignificant.
    
    You cite Georgia, in fact the reverse has happened, there’s a large number of apparently fraudulent registrations made almost exclusively by Democrat controlled PACs, especially the one run by Stacey Abrams. There are over 6,000 people registered at one isolated rural address for a start, plus tens of thousands with no valid physical address – one is given but the location is fictitious.
    
    By making the registration effectively check free, that opens the door to serious fraud. Add to that the complete absence of voter signature checking and the process is wide open to fraud.
    
    You are simply wilfully closing your eyes, the evidence will eventually come out absent any truly repressive censorship, but the scheme worked. Biden got elected on fraudulent votes and that cannot be reversed. So congratulations, your side “won”, pity about the concurrent death of US democracy.

    In every past election for many years, the rejection rate on mailed in ballots has been around 3-5%. In 2020 in the vital swing states it varied between 0.3 and 0.003%.
    
    Funny how a pandemic panic can make ballots so correct.
    
    And Colorado, since around 1950 it has had a turnout between a high of around 63% and a low near 50%. In 2020 the nominal turnout was over 84%. And neither Biden nor Harris ever held a. Single event in that state. Truly amazing and so believable.

  What is the proper outcome of a vote? Is it not whatever outcome results, provided the system was fair and unbiased.
  A lot of the centre-left readers here might think in this case the ends justified the means. Unfortunately it’s emboldened the type of people and policy that, in the not too distant future, all but the hard left will regret helping across the line.
  Conservatives and libertarians are not the enemy, capitalism is not evil.

In the UK the govt and BBC have trashed what little credibility the Panorama current affairs programme had left on a promotional programme in favour of vaccination, while attacking any medical person who has questioned the issues around Covid and the efficacy of the vaccine programmes. Those advocating the vaccines don’t need to offer evidence that the vaccines are effective. It determines that the average covid victim had another 16 years of life to look forward to. How? Simply by looking at average life expectancies. The obvious error here is that covid affects the very old and those with existing co-morbidities so it is ridiculous to assume they had a life expectancy equal to the average for their age.     We’d know by now… Millions upon millions of doses given in Israel, UK, US. No strong safety signals. The anaphylaxis was/is all in people with prior form, apart from the puzzling batch in San Diego, that got trashed. Looks like dose 2 commonly gives a flu-like syndrome, but that’s it.

        Yes slightly less effective against SA and UK variant, but still very good for Pfizer and Moderna. The Astra vaccine looks like the SA variant evades it, South Africa stopped the rollout of the Astra vaccine. I have seen no data on the Brazilian or Nigerian variants. We still don’t yet know about other (unreleased) vaccines such as J&J etc

        Well, for a start, Sun is obviously not gender neutral, as it sounds like and is only one vowel away from the word for masculine progeny. So possibly “child” rather than “sun”? And “day”? That drags in imperialist colonial cultural norms which insist that time is a finite construct capable of being arbitrarily divided into 24 hour segments, whereas we should all be aware that should a cultural narrative be adopted which suggests that time is in fact fluid and incapable of measurement, then that should be an equally valid methodology for telling the time.         Actually the scientific evidence is overwhelming, and the evidence is that simple cloth masks (or even 2 or 3 of those) are ineffective at stopping the spread of respiratory viruses.
        
        There are research papers that show that theoretically cloth masks stop some viruses being expelled, but practical tests in real life situations show that this theoretical effect is illusory.
        
        N95 masks are partially effective, and for those who insist on citing it, the use of masks in surgical situations is to prevent the spread of oral BACTERIA into OPEN WOUNDS. Note the two critical differences between masks for viral transmission.
        
        Conclusion, masks are ineffective and are purely a form of social virtue signalling to display an assumed “exalted” sanitation status.

    I believe the Time article is an attempt to explain some of the stuff they did Legally (well almost) in order to save democracy. What was done Illegally is not yet known, only suspected. I also believe the article serves to create a datum for pet scribes to ponder whilst ignoring reports/rumours of illegalities in voting systems used and their administration.
    Any scribe worth their salt should start an audit trail of the Dems and Associates financial dealings, followed by a communications audit and timeline. That won’t happen though because a corrupt MSM participated in so-called legal aspects of the so-called democratic process.

Ma was just telling us her and a couple of old ducks at the Village were looking for a bit more excitement in their day, so decided to invest $100 a week each into buying $5 KENO dips.
After four weeks they’ve put in $1200, won a few minor cash prizes and a few bonus tickets, and their investment pool now stands at $580.

Now she was wondering whether they should just keep buying ‘lucky dip’ numbers, or would they be better off choosing their own?

Until the vaccination uptake falls below the available supply it is a non-existent problem.
Once the vaccination programme is underway those receiving it (within the margin of effectiveness) will be immune.
Once tourism is starts in earnest, if the vaccine is 95% effective, even 2 million overseas visitors (about half pre-covid) and new strains would suggest deaths are inevitable.
Those who do get vaccination have to weigh the risk of infection against their reasons for abstaining.

I’d be interested in KBers thoughts on UK Labour’s strength and popularity under his leadership and what legacy he’s left. Did he leave the party stronger, weaker or about the same?

For me, I wouldn’t trust him to run a bath.

If Biscuit is out there, I swear I am on my last Gerardian genetic nerve with this lot. The wheels on the bus… have fallen off. The only silverware even possible anymore is Champions League and can’t see us getting past PSG or Bayern on this form (let alone the bloody Mancunians)…

I thought Jacinda Ardern was cracking down on hate speech, but it seems that she willing to allow one of her MP’s to spout his his bulling and hate speech on Peter William’s because he asked a ligament Question of the Finace Minister Grant Robertson. It seems power has gone to the heads of many Labour MP’s Trevor Mallard leading the bullies brigade over rape remarks that cost the taxpayer over $ 350,000 and then the reporting of Chris Bishop over a Labour party ad he edited that he was cleared of.

Fieldays is less than four months away and the planning is well under way. An exhibitor explained the problem in getting accommodation for visitors. Hamilton’s three biggest hotels/motels are MIQ outfits. That reduces the list. Then a huge number of motels within 70 kilometres of Mystery Creek have been taken over by Social Welfare to provide homes for the homeless.
A motelier told me that he had been doing real good with the local dairy factory and logging gangs; occupancy of 94% had been achieved, frequently all full up. At $100 per night it was, in his words, money for shit. Then along came Social Welfare who said they would pay $1500 per week per unit and take the lot! We both wonder what the dairy factory and the logging gangs do nowadays as $217 per night is a bit stiff.
Supply and demand economics suggests that accommodation costs for Fieldays 2021 will be astronomic, which does not bode well for Hamilton’s bordellos.

My partner took a couple of clients out this arvo to join the spectator fleet. I switched on half way thru the first race hoping to catch a glimpse of his boat anchored out there.

  Ineos needs about 12 knots of wind to perform. Prada has a much better range & is easier to sail. Only 9 – 10 knots today and Prada just sailed /flew away.
