Barry Soper : Jacinda Ardern seems to have a ‘ la la la ‘ moment when it comes to Trevor Mallard. It seems Jacinda Ardern simply wants to drown out the noise surrounding her mate, if she stopped and listened she may start to see the wood from the trees.
Ardern is a nice woman probably seeing the best in most people, but she seems to be unable to acknowledge ther can be another side to some people.

      I think it highly unlikely that any government would wish to cancel royal honours granted to their political opponents, bar serious criminal offending. For example, Doug Graham and Jenny Shipley have kept their gongs despite their legal troubles.

    Robertson on RNZ today puts on a frowny face and pleads to landlords “We are all in this together” Nothing is further from the truth. He wasn’t on the same page when he and Jax made the statement they were going to extend the Bright Line to 10 years. They said “WE are going to do it”
    Whenever governments change the rules WE Taxpayers always pay more.

    Astonishes me how they (notably media & politicians) are moved to condemn some flippant comments he makes about physical violence, but ignore/totally silent on the brutal physical violence that is the stock in trade of Adesanya & what they call a sport.

      Robertson is a disgrace especially when the silence was deafening over the sex deviate out of the Prime Ministers office that Jacinda Ardern promised she would get Justice for those that made complaints of sexual assault. Where was Grant Robertson and other Senior MP’s when our Prime Minister was sweeping all the dirt that was collected under the carpet for no one to see.

    In recent weeks we have had derogatory comments towards various business groups from the likes of Damien O’Conner (Suck it up tourism), Grant Robertson (Find another place to rent), and now Julie-Ann Genter (Cry me a river of tears – Landlords) that smacks of abject arrogance, and yet they get a free pass from the MSM.
    I also see that the Radio Station that the PM uses to mock the host of a station she now doesn’t want to appear on, because the questions are too hard, has staff trouble with bulling and harassment – Sound like a Labour youth camp and the PM’s office so she is in good company.

  I’m curious, has Ardern sacked anyone yet? Forced someone out of Parliament altogether? Mallard wouldn’t survive Key and I feel that Clark would view him as a liability too. The real danger for Ardern is that defending this sort of behaviour leads to complacency and arrogance. Given just how many bored lost MPs they have, this will eventually come back to haunt her.

Was talking yesterday with a chap who recently drove out of Waikaremoana on his way back to Wellington.
He needed to find somewhere for he and his wife to stay the night. Started in Wairoa. Sorry, all the motels full of WINZ clients. Went to Napier. Same story. Finally found a motel in Havelock North at 8.30pm.
FFS. If the borders eventually open where the hell are the tourists going to stay?
Next question: Are these WINZ clients paying anything for their motel accommodation or do they want to live for free forever?
The country is fucked. Thanks Cindy and your team of numbskulls, along with all the fuckwits who voted for you, the loony Greens and Winston.

  As usual Captain M you’re right. I recently discovered a similar situation throughout Canterbury and into North Otago. I feel real pity for the cleaners in some of these motels when the ferals are moved-on. The moteliers may be basking in easy $$$$ from the taxpayers but the stink (both real and imaginary) of these ferals will haunt a block of motels for years to come and wreck their businesses. I barely recognize NZ now and when the idiotic Ardern has her way and changes the country to Aotearoa it will be utterly beyond recognition!

      There should be a register of those who cater for the WINZ tourists. I wont stay in one that does. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find motels without the ‘No Vacancy’ sign outside, shit cars parked outside the units together with piles of junk, ashtrays and empties.   If you are really, really naughty then you get kicked out of “your” HNZ house and get put up in a motel.
  
  For punishment you will not be allowed to do the cleaning or make the beds etc (motel staff will do that). Nor will you be allowed to pay for the electricity or mow the grass etc etc.
  
  If you are really, really good then you might be allowed back into an HNZ house and be allowed to do your own cleaning, make your own beds, mow your own lawns, pay your own electricity bills, etc etc.

    Yes, there are MCos. But many of the motels in Napier and Hastings especially, are full with long-term residents.
    
    Friends made a booking in January 2020 at a Hastings motel for the New Zealand Stockcar Championships in January this year. They were surprised to receive an email in October advising them that their booking had been cancelled, and asking for a bank account number so the deposit they paid could be returned. When they queried it with the motel owner they were advised he no longer took tourist/visitor bookings as he was no focusing on providing long-term accommodation for the Ministry of Social Development. He also kindly advised them they they would need to look at alternative accommodation, as most Hastings motels were doing the same as him.
    
    Put yourself in the motelier’s shoes. Would you rather receive irregular income from tourists, with peaks and troughs, or have 100% occupancy, with payment guaranteed by the government?

        That’s a hard one – a trickle of “nice” tourists where I pay a % to booking outfits – or a 100% occupancy rate (paid direct at full rate) to accommodate people I would not normally deal with.
        
        Me, I would go with the 100% and suck up the social distaste. Ethics don’t come into it.
        
        Not to mention that the income from 100% occupancy will be factored into the value of the motel. Maybe a good time to sell it now …..
        
        As an aside, one could ask that same question (morals and short term personal etc) of the landlords looking to increase rents now because the interest deduction is tapering off over the next four years. But that’s another issue I suppose.

      Yes Tony, before travelling I choose very carefully which motel I book. I have a list now of WINZ-free ones and which are not on motel clustered streets. The one I use in Hamilton has been almost begged by WINZ to take in ‘homeless’, but they resisted and are now known as a safe and clean place to visit and almost always fully booked.

      While we’re on accommodation … Wily Willie Jackson, Minister of Maori Development, was at the National Maori Housing conference in Heretaunga a few weeks ago.
      
      Jackson said help for Maori housing will include freeing development on Maori land being blocked by unpaid rates.
      
      The tribal chairman of theNgati Kahungunu tribe, Ngahiwi Tomoana, said Maori had access to their own lands and whanau members to execute building projects, but they needed help financially.
      
      “We have our own plans and we have our own ability to execute those plans but we don’t have the finance to do it, so we are saying that the government could and should re-invest from public housing into papakainga housing.”
      
      What neither Jackson or tribal leaders are saying is that an important reason why Maori find it difficult to raise finance for housing is their inalienable tribal land ownership. This tribal land cannot be sold, therefore it is useless as collateral for banks and similar lenders.
      
      Looks as though taxpayers will stump up so that Maori can have it both ways: finance and clean-title land that couldn’t be sold from under them if repayments fell hopelessly in arrears.

  From late last year, ferals ensconced in motels were required to have 25% contribution debited from their benefit. From my observation this hasn’t changed the inmates motivation to actively pursue renal accommodation.
  And why would they …
  Free linen, towels & daily housekeeping. Save heaps on all those expensive cleaning chemicals. Heaps of hot water, air-con providing all-day heat & cooling, Sky TV, phone, free electricity, free toilet paper and other amenities, rubbish is cleared away, lawns and gardening done. The motel has washing machines, dryers and maybe a playground and swimming pool. If a lightbulb is blown or an appliance ceases working; simply call the motel manager and this will be quickly remedied.
  Motels are another example of ‘kindness’ that produces a breeding ground of entitlement & laziness.

I honestly thought Newstalk ZB was a little better than some of the other MSM media when it came to not giving in to some of the nonsense that we’re seeing at the moment. My bubble has been burst.

Listening to the news at 6 on the way in to work, I heard an item about transport officials “secretly planning a new harbour bridge”. Supposedly it’s been under way for some time, but is being kept hush-hush so that the Government can make a big announcement.

It’s all just rumour at the moment, and Newstalk ZB reported that the Transport Minister would neither confirm nor deny. They then went on to add, “… and Waka Kotahi wouldn’t say anything either”. With absolutely NO MENTION of the NZ Transport Agency.

Sigh …

1 – Mallard made his first comment in relation to the Debbie Francis review of Parliament which mentioned behaviour that Mallard interpreted as rape –
Proceedings were brought against Mallard by a parliamentary staffer, who said he felt bullied out of Parliament by the Speaker after Mallard falsely described allegations of “sexual assault” as rape.
Mallard had been discussing a complaint of a “sexual assault” contained in the Debbie Francis review of Parliament on Radio NZ in 2019, when he said he interpreted that as rape.
“We are talking about serious sexual assault, well that, for me, that is rape. That is the impression I get from the report,” Mallard said.
Mallard said he had not connected these allegations to this individual in that interview – and he had not known about the case.

2 – But later in the day when a new investigation was opened and the man was stood down, Mallard did say a danger to women had been removed from the building.

Gonzalez-Montero said there were as an older complaint against the Parliamentary staffer that had been investigated and not substantiated, that predated his time as general manager.
But in March of 2019 the alleged victim, also a Parliamentary staffer, had asked him to look into the handling of the previous complaint. This was during the interview process of the separate Francis Review into behaviour at Parliament.

Gonzalez-Montero said he sought legal advice on whether it would be appropriate to re-open the investigation, and then on 13 May – about a week before the release of the report – he decided to formally reopen it.
Then on 22 May, the day after the report’s release, when Mallard was in the centre of a political storm over describing the allegations in the report as “rape” – Gonzalez-Montero advised the man of the decision to re-open the investigation and suspended him from work.

The staff-member quit and has argued that he was constructively dismissed from his job.
Mallard told the committee late in 2020 that he had not connected the allegation in the Francis Review report to the actual case, and that he almost immediately regretted his comments.

It is a pity these two comments from Mallard now seem viewed as one, because Mallard has apologised for his comments – and it seems unclear, if that is for one comment or both – so has Mallard excused the staffer while it appears Parliamentary Service manager Gonzalez-Montero is still dealing with the handling of a complaint separate to the Francis Review, and in which Gonzalez-Montero has involved the Police.

This seems to be further complicated by the new revelations now that Mallard’s legal team communicated negatively with the staffer’s lawyers “threatening that, if [the man] persevered with his defamation case, “the question of his reputation and his conduct will be very much the centrepiece of any public proceeding”.”

Is the Gonzalez-Montero investigation complete, if so what is the result and how does it bear on Mallard’s competence? Or, if ongoing, does Mallard’s apology intefer with the outcome of the Gonzalez-Montero inquiry? Is Mallard actually wrong to have said what he did to defame the staffer – as payment of $330,000 taxpayer funds to legal costs would suggest – but having now apologised, be in error again if that pardons any wrong-doing on part fo the staffer, which appears is still being considered?

$1uff, breathlessly, 50% of SIS terrorism related time goes into investing “white identity extremism”.

It looks like they must be a terrible threat, until we do two things:
1) Look at the details. They’re tracking 16 white supremacists and over 30 Islamic extremists.
2) Look at it through a statistical lens.

If we were all the same risk, then whites (0ver 70% of NZ population) should make up 70% of the dangerous terrorist extremists (and 70% of the prison population etc etc).

But no, what we’re really seeing is that the Islamic population (1.3%) is generating twice as many extremists worth tracking – ie a Muslim is over 100 times more likely to need tracking than a person identifying as white.

The same too with the time they spend. If they are spending 50% of their terrorism time tracking whites then we might assume the rest is split approx 1/3 each to Muslims, Maori and Asians.

If 70% of a population are causing 50% of the problems then they are not your problem group. The real problem group is the Muslims again with the highest ratio of problems to population.

        However it is the large-count events that grab the headlines.

‘Jury Selection Complete in Murder Trial against Derek Chauvin’:
Selection is after about 2 weeks in a slow and deliberate process to seat an impartial jury.
Jurors filled out pages of questions prior to being interviewed in court.
Opening statements to start on Monday.
The court selected 15 jurors, 12 will sit, 2 are alternatives and the 15th will be dismissed next week if the other 14 show up.
It will be streamed live and in its entirety.
This decision is because the pandemic has limited public ability to watch.

  I was on a jury once for a murder trial.
  Selection took awhile because there was six defendants who all had a set number of challenges plus the the prosecution had unlimited.
  Nobody was asked any questions except age & occupation and did you know anyone involved. Apart from that the lawyers eyeballed the candidates and challenged anyone with one eye in the middle of their forehead.
  All over in an hour or two.
  These American jury selections are like the Spanish Inquisition. And then after the trial they interview the jurors on TV. Strict no no in NZ.

“You’re taxed on income that you don’t actually have, because your profit is your income minus your expenses, but they just ignore the expenses part,” Oliver said.

“You could have almost no profit, maybe a loss, but you still have to fork out thousands of dollars to the IRD. It’s not an income tax, it’s just a penalty.”

Oliver claimed a sharp drop in the Kiwi dollar since the announcement likely reflected international investors fretting about the risk of putting money in New Zealand. “You invest in a country where ministers stand up and suddenly deny your businesses expenses [you’ll say] ‘I better go somewhere else.”

And:
Cameron Bagrie, managing director of Bagrie Economics, said the fall in the dollar probably reflected the expectation that interest rate increases were now “completely off the table” for the foreseeable future.

But in an environment where Government intervention was inevitably going to increase it was shocking that no advice had been provided on the move.

“If the Government chooses to ignore that advice, fine. That is a political call, but I find it just unacceptable that there’s no advice … on a major initiative such as that. It sets a very dangerous precedent.”

  With no clue on how business works, they won’t realise that the customer (ie. the renter) ends up paying all costs associated with renting. These include:
  1) Extra burdens placed on the rental property (heat pumps, insulation, etc).
  2) Extra taxes.
  3) Costs related to damages.
  4) Extra legal expenses dealing with problem tenants.
  etc etc etc
  The more the government gets involved, the more it costs.

    The rent isn’t set on a cost plus basis. They are set by market forces. Sure, you may accept a lower than normal rent for a good, quiet, reliable tenant but that’s still market forces. Rent that can’t be paid won’t be paid so affordability is part of it. Down here in Christchurch area, after Gerry consented large areas for housing, we have a surplus of rentals because so many potential renters have moved into home ownership. Housing is affordable as you can buy a nice house for $550,000 easily. The satellite areas have taken off. Commute times are minimal. Pegasus to airport 15 minutes CBD 20 minutes add 5 minutes for rush hour. A virtuous cycle developed as couples brought their home that caused a landlord to sell/ not buy which was bought by another 1st home buyer etc. We can double the population in 10-15 years as we have plenty of land suitable for housing, ample water supply, sewage can handle triple existing load and motorway system is working well. Only the double laneing of Rangiora to motorway and the Woodend bypass to go. Tell your kids if they want their own home come here. Because of affordable housing we attract the best teachers, nurses, police officers and doctors.

      Sure, rentals are not cost plus and are market driven, but rentals have to generate a profit or the business falls apart.
      
      Yup, I live in Christchurch.
      It has massive potential to grow and probably will.
      
      Auckland is the most stupid place in NZ to try to build a larger city. There just is not enough land on the isthmus to do anything. It is just too narrow.
      
      But that said, the age of CBDs (and even large cities) is coming to an end. They made sense when communication and transport were expensive. Now both are very cheap. Most of my customers are in the northern hemisphere and I just sort them out via the internet. I don’t even have a current passport.
      
      The world as a whole has reached peak population and there will be a population downturn around the world (except in Africa and Middle East where they’re going gangbusters). Of course there will be local anomalies – NZ might be one of those.

  “Zero-profit” is how it would normally be structured as this is done for tax-free capital gain, not income. I am not complaining about this, just saying this is what it is.
  
  The Mums and Dads who are getting income from their rentals as an addon to their super will generally not be affected by all this as if they are drawing income they would have little or no debt.
  
  Just saying.
  
  In the present environment, if you want to set up a rental property path to eventual capital gain, it makes sense to set it up as “cash-neutral” ie the rent sort of pays mortgage+costs. With interest being deductible and current interest rates that means you need about a 40% LVR to make it work. Anything less than that will need topping up and losses cannot be claimed against other income. Not rocket science.
  
  With interest not deductible you need a 60% LVR to be cash neutral. Painful, but not exactly the end of the world. In $, a $600k rental now needs a $360k deposit rather than $240k. And borrowing against equity from another property to get the deposit won’t work because interest on that borrowing will be non-deductible. Truly a pain but the sky is not falling in. You can still set up a capital gain play, but it costs more to do so.
  
  There is always the option of raising the rent. Who knows where that runs out of steam? Given that rents follow values and values have exploded, that was always in the pipeline anyway. From a landlord point of view, the best thing is for the accommodation supplement to be increased because that firms up the rent increases and these get baked into the property value.

On that count alone it would have normally received headlines on all MSM. Given our constitional history and the status of the speaker it was a remarkable challenge. For decades speakers were automatically knighted in deference to their standing and contribution to democracy.

    The lack of any coverage at all of Bishop’s speech is reprehensible, but is not surprising. When the Government is propping up the media and politically influencing other media (look at the stacked boards of public broadcasting), then the payback required is simply not to run stories that are, or could be, damaging to the Government.
    
    Bishop’s speech was, whichever way you took it, was news. It was an event that happened and should not have been ignored by MSM. On the other hand, look at how much “news” is generated by the media itself. Pushing woke and cancel culture opinions as “news” is easy because its self-generated.

The reality is that the 40,000 people that have been vaccinated is less than 1% of the population. We’re enduring damaging economic and social restrictions becasue the roll-out has been so slow. I guess Labout would love it as they would need to do even less work.

Why is Judith Collins wittering on about the few people who move out of their home for 12 months to maybe take a job elsewhere then return home and will have a small tax liability.
Sure that sucks for the 1000 or so voters it may effect but Ardern has just started taxing revenue/denying deductibility of a legitimate business expense that will effect 450,000 voters.
Does Judith Collins not want to make the connection that Ardern has directed investors to new builds which will now shut out 1st home buyers so given what she has just retrospectively done to existing properties she will inevitably have to do to new builds.
I am looking at 20% rent increases which will all go back to Ardern in new taxes which she will use on the accommodation supplement.
To be honest I am a bit shocked that the normally cautious Ardern has made such a huge move, I dont think she has thought it through and like her other captains calls hopefully she will quickly reverse course. National are arguing last times big issue about the family home, they are missing the target and should be aligning themselves with the hard up tenants.

      If you do the house swap from home to rental and back the gain is taxed for the % of the time it was a rental. So – own house for 8 years, rent out for 1 – 1/8 of the gain is taxed at something like 35%. 4% – PITA but unlikely to cause untold hardship.

        So I buy a house meaning to live in it. Maybe I even do for a little while. Then I get a new job and have to move for 12 months. So I rent it out. Within 12 months I have to sell it for whatever reason. Looks awfully like selling something that was not really my home. Whatever.
        
        Basically I think a CGT is a good idea because income is income is income. Nothing to do with housing prices. I think it should be levied at a discounted rate and one’s primary residence should be exempt. These pragmatic measures seem to work OK in lots of other countries. Like all carve-outs they create a few unforeseen consequences at the boundary.
        
        You think any form of CGT is an evil envy-based conspiracy to rob hard working kiwis like you of their richly deserved gain.
        
        There seems to be very little danger that either of us will be modifying our views anytime soon …. 🙂
        
        Anyway, keep us up to date on your wealth gains and how you keep them out of the reach of the government and (?) your partner ….

        The MoF has decreed that the only qualification is for the house to not be occupied by the owner. So if you leave your home empty for 12 months it’s also liable to the tax perhaps he was being “too definitive” again.
        
        Let’s try another example shall we?
        
        A couple gets together and they each own a house. One party leaves their home (the only property they own) and moves in with the other.
        
        One house is left empty (or rented if you prefer -it makes no difference) for 12 months and the relationship flounders.
        
        The owner of the empty house then has to move elsewhere for whatever reason and they have to sell the empty house – their family home, the only property that they own – to buy elsewhere.
        
        They are caught by the new rules. And you think that’s fair.

      Actually iirc it was $700k on the one property. The $1m was across 2 properties in the 12 months since Covid hit.
      
      Fortunately, with the exception of those 2 properties (one of which is of course in a trust), everything else is well beyond the reach of the NZ tax system and government. As will be the $1m from my current sale when it comes through.

  On national, they have already announced they will roll back the bright line test to 2 years and reinstate the deduction of interest against rental income, so the 450,000 voters are covered.
  I do support their pushing the issue with people who rent their place for 12 months or more because there are a lot of “important” people who would be impacted. Think diplomats, MPs who move to Wellington and let their houses in their home town, military personal who get overseas postings (I have a friend who let his house while in Australia for 3 years working with their navy), etc. The point being Liebour didn’t really think this through, and these “small” issues are the proof.

  In its earlier form, the Bank of New South Wales, it’s been in New Zealand since soon after European settlement began. It’s helped build this country.
  
  Our family’s banked with Westpac/BNSW for three generations. I doubt any of us would wilingly switch to a China-owned bank successor, nor to the State’s Woke Kiwibank.
  
  Leftists running our Reserve Bank have been lording over our Australian-owned commercial banks.
  
  No wonder the Aussies think, “Why bother, when Asia offers far greater growth possibility.”
  
  If Westpac leaves, and other Aussie banks follow we’ll be left largely in the hands of Chinese banks. The Reserve Bank will find them a tougher group to push around.

  Actually, I think you’ll find she’s put forward multiple defences.
  She has stated that it was an honest belief (and that she still believes it).
  She has also stated that, given the unparalleled shooting down of her comments by pretty much everyone in the MSM, it is highly likely that no reasonable person would believe her comments and therefore they weren’t actually defamed.

  The claim is a legal one, it does NOT claim that Powell thinks it is false, it is a claim that Powell’s statement was one of opinion, not one of fact. That is, a claim that can be proved by evidence, but has not yet been proved.
  
  Powell still believes in voter fraud via the Dominion Software, and she has a pretty good case. In New Hampshire (which uses Dominion) it was found that the software appeared to have deducted 6% of votes from each GOP candidate and applied these to Democrats. This was concluded after a manual recount showed that there was a consistent difference between the machine and hand counts that went by party affiliation. Despite that, the GOP overturned Democrat majorities in both the Statehouse and Senate in NH. And that is of course the only reason this was uncovered, had a few more % been transferred, no investigation would have been launched.
  
  Also in California there is pretty good evidence that the fractional voting allocation section that exists (but is said not to be invoked – of course) in the Dominion system was in fact used. The figures appear to show that a GOP vote was allocated at 60%, so 10 actual votes was counted as 6. Needs a proper audit and hand count verification, but the evidence exists that such a manipulation may have occurred – a large spreadsheet of votes does include one line with a single vote for the GOP which is shown as 0.6 of a vote.

Second waves outbreaks seem larger especially if the first wave has not removed the ‘low hanging fruit.’
On large landmasses there will always be existing cases and a continent wide approach is nearly impossible.
While masks, lockdown and restricted movement may reduce impact they can only be maintained for a limited period.
When they fail the medical experts always find some failing in the way the lockdown was handled.
A list of countries where this has happened England, US, Sweden, Czechnia, Germany, etc., etc.
Reasons include schools allowed to remain open, mask wearing not enforced, lockdown introduced too late, people not obeying the rules, new variant more contagious. Like buses there’s always another one coming.
Remember when controlling the wave was the aim to allow hospitals to maintain services.

    The signing of this UN Protocol was done before the last election and for some reason best known to themselves, our MSM chose not to raise it as an election issue.
    
    I suspect that if the electorate knew what they had been signed up to, the election result may well have been different. However, I am still baffled as to why the opposition didn’t make it an election issue.

    I beelive there is also a case in the Supreme Court that could allow police to conduct warrentless entry and search into houses for guns or any other reason, contrary to the 4th ammendment “for public safety”. The basis of the orignal ruling it relies upon is one where police were allowed to enter and move a damaged car in the interests of immediate public safety.

      Biscuit, I think the NRA’s strength is declining quite quickly.
      
      Firstly, the revelations of the NRA execs basically defrauding the NRA is chilling their flow of donations from US gun owners.
      
      Secondly, their (very large) flow of money from Russia has stopped.
      
      Thirdly, the NY AG is taking them on legally and appears to have a very strong case.
      
      In the 2020 elections they were nothing like the force that they were in, say, 2016. And I think that power is declining even further since then.
      
      For example, see today’s 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision on the right, or not, to carry.
      
      I think we will see a big 2A case in front of the Supreme Court within the next few years, and I suspect SCOTUS will see the national mood over mass shootings, put a gag on Scalia, and then introduce some (well regulated) restrictions on 2A.

  Lots of retired sportspeople and former politicians died around the world, nearly all in their golden years. But I don’t personally know them any more than a random person in the street.
  Doesn’t make the death less real I suppose.
  
  Neither a case for or against the Covid hysteria.
  
  A pretty short party game though, if that is your point. A lot (the vast majority of affected) recover, and many people might not even realise they have Covid without a test.
  …Some might even go to the gym, for instance.

There is one point that has been overlooked in the discussion about whether the show misrepresents Maori and Pacific Islanders.
The point is that all of the offenders/wanted are unable to be found by the police.
Perhaps they have less difficulty in accessing offenders who are white so don’t have to ask for our help in finding them.
Are Maori more likely to be supported by their communities if police are trying to find them.
Are their communities more likely to be out of the vicinity of the offence and in more remote areas.
Does it show a ‘bias’ by Maori against the police.

  The Colonial Defence Act of 1862 or the Armed Constabulary Act of 1867 could also suffice.
  NZ Self reliance was the word, as the Imperial Regiments were withdrawn from the mid-1860’s.
  The Armed Constabulary was para-military and had little to do with policing initially. I myself would trace the NZ army to that force.
  
  But in defence of 1845 – local militia and ad-hoc volunteers did take part in the Northern War 45-46. Locally raised forces were even meant to help carry ladders for the assault on the pa at Ohaeawai. The British account suggest the settler-soldiers didn’t perform that duty in the face of massed volleys and dropped them and flung themselves down while the forlorn hope British tried to force their way inside the pallisades. Oddly enough, the British had resigned themselves to Do Or Die so did not even answer the first bugle recall. A horrible sounding affair, where the senior officer at the time was far less fit to lead than the junior officers, or the allied Maori with the British (experienced war-chiefs, like Waka Nene).
  
  The first Taranaki War 1860-61 was also notable for the performance of Rifle Volunteers there. The Taranaki Rifles are supposed to be the first formal Volunteer forces in the British Empire to ever fight in the field.
  The Wellington-West-Coast Taranaki regiment (Territorial Force) actually trace their origin to this force, and so consider they have battle honours on NZ soil.
  So 1860 is also a candidate for lineage.

A new complainant in the Peter Ellis case claims he raped her while babysitting and said if she told anyone she would die and “witches, demons and monsters would come”.
Whether or not the court will accept and use the evidence from the woman – who said she was raped as a four-year-old – in the upcoming appeal is being argued today.
Ellis died in 2019 at the age of 61, but the Supreme Court has granted leave for his appeal to continue despite his death.

This is nonsense allowing someone with a remembered experience from 40 years ago who claims that she was raped as a 4 year old then told nobody until she told the police 11 years later (no record of her telling anyone) and she recognised someone – over 10 years later from seeing someone on TV.

Remembered experiences like these are massively problematic. Children of 4 cannot really tell the difference between reality and fantasy even while an event is happening – let alone recall it correctly 40 years later.

However this fits in nicely with all the other nutters who have talked about Ellis’ pet giraffes and his black penis.

Obviously you have no control over who the owner will be, or what they’re likely to do with it. Most just put them on TradeMe with $1 reserve and hope for the best.

Aston Martin have been taken over by Lawrence Stroll of F1 fame they are increasing their presence and promos all over the world, including being the new safety cars in F1, and having a road version of it for sale.
