So, having labelled Nicola Willis “classist and racist” for saying she felt unsafe on Wellington streets, Marama Davidson not only attended a march in Wellington last night to protest unsafe streets, but addressed the crowd as well!

  Tony, given the speakers at the rally and the nature of the rally, it smacks of a Green Party hit job on Willis and diversion tactic. Yes, they acknowledged Central Wellington is unsafe, even seedy. However, the reasons for this was the night time party culture in Courtney Place, not the new residents of Cental Wgtn according to speakers and Red Radio(this morning).

      To be fair, it would be a loose definition of work – all of those hui’s take time to sit in, flights to and from the hui along with waiting in the airport are probably another few hours.
      And of course 3 hr lunch meetings, all on the tax payer.

Is anyone really surprised that documents released under the OIA have shown that Jacinda Ardern was directly involved in finding places for The Wiggles in MIQ?

Despite a promise they would bring $4.4m into the economy and help sustain more than 1100 jobs, managed isolation officials appeared uninterested in helping The Wiggles into the country in early January.

But as soon as the Prime Minister suggested a “practical solution” be found, an ad hoc exemption was worked out rapidly for the children’s band – who are currently touring the country.

So the PM told Chris Hipkins to find a “practical solution”, code no doubt to find space for The Wiggles, and of course Hipkins duly obliged.

I wonder how those who are still unable to get places in MIQ, many for compassionate reasons, feel about Hipkins and Ardern tag-teaming to give themselves some Wiggle-room to allow in children’s entertainers.

Reports of Sexual Assaults and related offenses have increased by nearly 50% in the Wellington region over the past five years according to Police Data.
This is a bit rich coming from our Prime Minister who is well known for being part of a couple of Labour Party in house inquiries and cover up of serious sexual assaults, one when former MP Darren Hughes chased a young lad who was naked down a street in which they lived and the other more recently in which the PM promised those victims that she would get Justice for them over the deviate working out of her office for the sexual assault that was perpetrated by him only to sweep it under the.carpet as quick as possible.

    “The deep rig” by Patrick Byrne shows how the electronic voting systems were hacked to swing the election to Joe Biden.
    
    As far back as April 5, 2018 a New York Times article “I hacked an election. So can the Russians” says this, “all cyber security experts who have given electronic voting machines any thought agree. These machines have got to go. The electronic voting machines Americans got to solve the problem of voting integrity turned out to be an awful idea. That’s because people like me can hack them all too easily. I’m a computer scientist who has hacked a lot of electronic voting machines. Imagine what the Russians and North Koreans can do.” (Page 17)
    
    According to Byrne, the precinct administrators enjoy extraordinary privileges such as the ability to drag and drop cues of ballots waiting for adjudication.
    
    And several foreign elections marred by allegations of election fraud there have been windows were vote counting was shut down unexpectedly, and in those shutdown periods there have been large and controversial swings favouring one candidate. It had happened in Africa and in Serbia where the use of such systems have been involved in scandals.
    
    So Byrne looked for counting being shut down during the election. On November 3, 2020 counting of votes stopped in six cities, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee, Phoenix and Las Vegas. In those hours when the counting was “closed”, hundreds of thousands of votes will push through the system. In those windows where counting had been “stopped” hundreds of thousands of ballots swings occurred, often running 99.4% and even 100% Biden. (Page 31)
    
    That gives an overview. As I work through the book I will give more specific examples from each state.

    The joke is on us. Wilson is advocating for something on subject matter he has no in depth knowledge of , no knowledge how to deliver and no knowledge of what the cost will be.
    
    On the other hand I advised on
    Croydon tram;
    West Midlands tram;
    Manchester tram Phase 3;
    Phorzheim; and
    Hamburg.
    
    Lesson learned – the only place for such a scheme in Auckland – there is nowhere, and we can’t afford an eternal milestone around the necks of future generations.

      3. Driverless Electric Pods are coming. Will be linked to form “trams” if necessary where a number of people are going from the same A to B along a same route.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern now needs to publicly apologise to Case L and her family, since Case L was right – as we already knew from released information – and Ardern, as she must already know, was wrong.
Hipkins and others must also admit in this event they were mistaken.

And the Covid-19 rulebreakers will have faced the judgment of the entire nation, Ardern said at this afternoon’s press conference. “Plainly everyone is paying the price,” Ardern said about the people’s breaches. “No one in Cabinet … thinks that this is tolerable. What has happened here is a clear breach and everyone is frustrated by it,” said Ardern. – Herald

Ardern should also apologise for the “chilling effect” this has on her urging that “people to call out family and colleagues who are not following the rules of the alert levels” – since people may make mistakes, as she has – even although those mostly could not display the imbalance of power that her accusations have.

Ardern should also drop her fatuous slogan “Team of Five Million” since we have seen how some team players can be isolated before the whole nation.

        I really do think you’re right.
        
        As a massive generalisation, on the whole I do find lefties so much more certain of their views than those on the right.
        
        How often have we heard lefties selling utopian promises, full of broad sunlit uplands and all with certainty of outcome.
        
        While the rallying cry of conservatives? Well that would be ‘Hesitate!’ or ‘Let’s take the time to think this through!’ 🙂
        
        I don’t know what it is with lefties. Have they never been told they’re wrong by their parents? Were they constantly showered with praise?
        
        Were they the star pupils at school that the teachers constantly fawned over and told ‘they will be the leaders of the future’?
        
        When they got to uni did the lecturers and professors never tell them they’re talking balderdash? And their thoughts and arguments are flawed and confused?
        
        I don’t know – but there’s no debate about it – many, many on the left just will not admit it when they’re clearly wrong on a matter, even when all the evidence is before them.
        
        They are akin to religious fundamentalists. Supposedly infallible. Inerrant.

    Earlier media reports on some matters are often the more accurate – before others get in and fuck up the facts.
    
    Case L, the KFC worker said not only did she not receive any information from anyone instructing her to isolate, the information her sister, Case I, received was the complete opposite of what officials have claimed.
    On February 14, Case I, received a text message stating: “casual contacts to isolate and test – their families don’t need to”.
    Case L saw this message – so went to work.
    
    Back on March 1.
    So people who read this then have known for a month that Ardern should apologise.

So Siouxsie Wiles is New Zealander of the Year. Jacinda was over the moon presenting the award. It was noted that the award was well deserved because Wiles had to overcome prejudice about her appearance and gender.

I don’t care much about the hair. But what I do care about is that she presents as a medical professional while openly campaigning for Labour. Because of that I cannot take her seriously. This is what she said on election night.

    The vast majority of New Zealanders wouldn’t give a big rats arse about her gender, what colour her hair is this week – or in fact what comes out of her mouth.

    I’ve seen this time and time again – a person receives some (admittedly-boorish) comments on Twitter or Facebook and it all suddenly ‘OPPRESSION!’
    
    I’m over this victimhood gravy-train. It’s time we all grew up.
    
    I don’t think I’ve ever said on this forum we had never-married women in our family who owned and ran their sheep and cattle farms in the South Island from the 30s through to the 90s – some of the most capable, patient, savvy women I ever met (I stayed with them on school holidays).
    
    They would always tell me “life is what you make it” and would laugh at the thought of a few ill-mannered comments making a difference to their lives or what they thought of themselves.
    
    Some people want to talk about doing it tough? What about dawn to dusk farming during the war, most of it on horseback and with dogs? As single women negotiating with sceptical men on all manner of matters including stock agents, fertiliser agents, shearing services, vets, fencers etc etc etc?
    
    I am totally confident, were they alive today, they would say “there has never been a better time or place in the history of humanity to be a woman than right now and right here in New Zealand.”
    
    They would abhor the modern politics of victimhood, false claims of oppression and of the politics of ‘equity’ as opposed to equality of opportunity – after all “life is what you make it…”

    Yet oddly enough, recent studies that look at the actual use of lockdowns show that lockdowns appear o have no impact on the spread of Covid-19. This is done by comparing two communities with similar characteristics, one where there were extensive lockdowns and the other where there was none. And the results do show that the actual trajectory of infections and the case/ICU/Death loads are statistically indistinguishable.
    
    If you truly want to be “scientifically” based than studies such as these are essential, because there seems little doubt that lockdowns are economically damaging and possibly (haven’t seen definitive studies though there are some in progress) socially harmful as well. So if lockdowns don’t actually make a difference, then we shouldn’t’t do them, purely on a cost/benefit basis.
    
    This whole situation is sort of new (pandemics aren’t, but the attempt to control and limit spread as has been done is new – some limited quarantining was done in 1918-19 with the flu, but minimal compared to our current efforts); so we can and should learn from this. We most certainly should not allow political considerations to dictate how we respond in the future as has been done with the almost complete lack of early treatment for Covid in the first world. That decision alone probably cost hundreds of thousands of lives, and falls squarely on those who for political reasons disparage working prophylactic treatments that drastically reduce hospitalisation and deaths.

    Now the radio is turned off for most of the day & night.

    1. No-one could possibly know that.
    
    2. Those are the words of either an amateur, a politician or someone with a vested interest. Any professional worth their salt would be saying “based on previous experience of this type of endeavour, locally and around the world, and given it’s scale and complexity, we should consider budget and time overruns a near certainty and we must do all we can to prevent them…we must make it an absolutely key focus to manage all risk of overrun out of our project and even then we probably won’t succeed totally.”
    
    (And I say this as someone who’s living has come from managing all manner of projects for local and central government and private organisations for the last twenty years.)

        Batman, in the time honoured tradition of AT/AC and now the CRL delivery company, the goal posts for budget and delivery of the project have been moved to such an extent, that any reporting of the project is “correct”. But in fact such reporting is false, as there was never a valid business case, never a project budget and never a valid timeline. The number bandied about is $4.5bn, but that is now more than 12 months ago, exclude a number of direct project costs, did not take account of covid (& delays – will be blamed for $billion more), or $3bn more (for additional trains, more stabbling yards, and an additional maintenance facility). Total projected cost is now close to $9bn, so our children, grandchildren and their grandchildren will be paying for this folly.
        
        Another joke in all of this, was Ardern, Wood, Wilson and Dann talking about this project being funded by the PPP model. As someone who has advised on more PFI/PPP projects than the NZ govt has contracted to, PPP is not the answer to this project. PPP is an excuse to see taxpayer/ratepayer money being siphoned off shore into the hands of the likes of the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund! There is no risk to these people when the NZ taxpayer is signing the cheques for public infrastructure financed by a commercial arrangement!

  Institutions can’t be racist by definition. They are inanimate structures and groups therefore can’t be explained or described by human emotions or feelings. People within institutions could potentially be racist and therein lies the problem with such analysis. Usually these same people are the colleagues, friends and political allies.

      The scientists have filed their report.
      
      Upon receiving it The Director General of WHO stated that the scientists were not given free access to all the Chinese information.
      
      Dr Tedros said the team had difficulty accessing raw data and called for “more timely and comprehensive data sharing”
      
      So a number of Countries issued a Joint statement for China to come clean with everything they know about the origin of the virus.
      
      International criticism
      In response to the WHO report, the US and 13 allies including South Korea, Australia and the UK voiced concern over the findings and urged China to provide “full access” to experts.

  There is a shortage of business and working funds and now this local tsunami.
  
  International reports are similar: the lockdowns have destroyed business and work continuity. Supplies have been disrupted and many more businesses are facing closure. Even helicopter money doesn’t always work, often just increasing asset prices which includes housing and the stock market.
  
  Once we had Minister of Finance who understood these basics but now socialist “knowledge” has been substituted. Hence our Govt is unawares of how adrift they are on a sea of uncertainty. Planning is pointless in these circumstances. Is that the function of Govt to lie down and have its tummy tickled by the other parties to economic interactions?

Bugger, the Government kept its promises and put the minimum wage and pension up. Bugger, bugger bugger. I thought I would be reading this morning how Grant was rolling around the floor laughing that it was extended April’s Fools joke. But he probably did roll on the floor laughing anyway because KBer’s couldn’t say he’d broken more promises and dine out on it for 2 centuries.
More seriously, I was shocked that one of KB’s resident epidemiologists didn’t get NZer of the Year. There was a tremendous effort put in and many fights over the first post in the morning to comfort/frighten/anger the board with the latest inside story on Covid.
Anyway, I’m sure all efforts were appreciated, especially the ones with careful back-tracking or hiding for a few days.
In the real world, I know what it is like being the lowest paid in the business you own, and about how tough things have been for everyone. But soldier’s sons most often know that tough now is nowhere near as tough as during 2 World Wars, transit in old Army camps later. They also know if they have children or grandchildren that those kids near a lot of support to come through the epidemic as well as possible as their great grandparents did a century ago.

Fewer Americans watch Cable News in Post Trump Era:
US cable news network viewership has declined since Joe Biden took office.
Hardest hit Fox losing 32% of its prime-time audience, CNN dropped 16% and MSNBC dipped 7.8%.
Fox maintained No.1 position for overall viewers.
It seems Trump was right when we warned, “Newspaper, television, all forms of media will tank if I’m not there.”
So the US public are less knowledgeable since Biden became President.
And, he’s only been there for a couple of months.

Just want to sound out some people out here. An elderly family member has been in Middlemore recently. Now that he has moved into a carehome, we find out that he was on a ‘do not resuscitate’ order at Middlemore. The person responsible for his care, who was with him every day, did not authorise this. He has dementia, so is not able to authorise it himself. Do Middlemore have policy on this? I’m thinking of writing to them. Just because he’s old, doesn’t mean he’s ready to go just yet. What do you think?

YouTube are going to remove the “dislike” button, probably after Biden getting too many downticks…

The move was announced via Twitter on March 30th, with YouTube explaining “in response to creator feedback around well-being and targeted dislike campaigns, we’re testing a few new designs that don’t show the public dislike count.”

As a result, only the accounts publishing videos will be able to see the dislike to like ratio.

With all the governments efforts being directed into giving money and special services to maori people, I was pondering the racial implications of this.

The worst case scenario for a child is to be born into a white low socio economic family. These children receive no special attention, and are left to fend for themselves unlike their brown counterparts. The system is racist for sure, but against lower class white people. They have nowhere to turn.

The list of nations which signed the statement includes Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway and Japan – but not New Zealand.

  Ma was saying she knew Ronnie back in the early 70’s when when she was flatting in Wellington. Came across a bit ‘weird’ even then apparently.

  Brierley should definitely have his knighthood removed…and preferably sooner rather than later. Arguably he should never have got one in the first place…basically all he did was make a shitload of money…and maybe give some small change – for him – to cricket related things.

    In essence BIL looked for “lazy balance sheets”. Fundamentally profitable businesses that had underlying assets that they could strip and replace with debt. Once harder times hit, these businesses then went under as they no longer had financial reserves. Businesses closed, jobs lost, Mum and dad shareholders burnt. And for that the guy got knighted!

The living wage calculation has added 85c an hour from today.
This article, and others from Brian Scott is still the best explanation of the calculation I’ve seen. I could find nothing on the Living Wage website as to how it is calculated.

  My recollection from reading the original detailed papers is that the starting $18.40 or whatever was a compromise by/for the advisory Focus Groups; it was then $6/hr higher in Auckland but Waldegrave and team thought they could not get away with that.
  
  Initially it was a UK Union put-up job designed to pressure us here. McCarten’s mob have got their way. However it was similar tactics applied via the Arbitration Court in the 1970’s that led to an upwards wage/price spiral. When the Cost of Living Index went up wages followed (repeat until…)
  
  That is now evident here again. Compare your weekly supermarket bills. As a small manufacturer I am having to review my labour costings, giving an increase from $40/hr to $60. The changes to pay for non-working hours have left a lot of uncertainty. My problems are tiny compared to most. There could be large amounts of money involved reducing working capital and increasing risk of businesses continuing.

Years ago the OJ Simpson trial was televised and some of the participants used the occasion to play up to the viewership, most notably the judge and the defence lawyers.
Personally I think it’s a mistake to reduce these trials to theatre, but I suspect the associates of the victim want everything out in the open because America has a history of unequal justice.
In the Derek Chauvin case I suspect a good number of people have decided already whether he is guilty or not and don’t need this month long TV drama.
We have had open & shut cases in NZ that turned up unexpected results and results that are wrong.
There’s going to be a few experts who might throw a spinner in the works.

There has already been a substantial payout by the city. I don’t know I agree with that sort of thing. In NZ ACC effectively replaced that, is my understanding.

  I know that there are many of us in NZ who oppose this, but I fear that our opposition will be suppressed.

I’ve had a wee find. 85c in coins in the car door pocket. Now I wouldn’t normally bother Kiwiblog with such news but…

Dear leader Shipley needs our help. Her reputation as a business director is becoming submerged in a sewer. And the high court is now to decide how many millions she has to pay up to the investors her board fleeced. An amount beyond any available insurance they say.

So how about we here at this bastion of right thinking do the decent thing and have a whip around. This leader of the nation, this spear point of ethics and business acumen, this friend to farmers will be ruined without our help. All because she was (unfortunately) resolutely clueless as to ethics or business or governance, or so it seems the court has decided.

Like I say, I’ve got 5c to spare. Please give what you can. Sort of like a kiwiblogathon. And just remember, even if she was a forgettable leader with ruthless ambition but negligible ability, you are probably actually making a donation to her victims. And of course her lawyers. And her hair dye applicator.

Yesterday I commented on HDPA’s somewhat critical summation of the announcement about the government’s backtrack on the light rail debacle. I said both she and B. Soper must be close to being cancelled.
Today at 4pm, Ms Du Plessis Allan made a statement pulling back on what she had said.
The government “was brave” to have decided to start again with this project etc etc.
So I’m guessing that considerable pressure has been exerted by her employers to tone down, or even stop, any comment or questioning which might show this government in a poor light – even if some realistic challenging of their policies and actions is warranted.
This pressure no doubt has come directly from the Labour Party’s propaganda machine perhaps with a threat to turn off funding.
This is Soviet Russia/East Germany stuff.
Shut up or be prepared to pay a price.

While I am no Ron Brieley fan and think kiddy fiddlers or people that keep objectionable photos of children on their computers or other devises deverve to be in jail with also any awards they they may have given in the Queens Honours list stripped I have to say this about Jacinda Ardern . The Prime Minister has allowed a rapist and deviate escape punishment from a serious crime ,she has helped in a young Labour person escape punishment on sexual assault, has let the Speaker of the house call a Parliamentary worker a rapist that cost the Taxpayer over $ 350.000 with more litigation to come,but even though it is well deserved she has started the process to have Sir Ron Brieley Knighthood stripped .
