Yesterday I documented how police are using the prospect of hate speech laws in New Zealand to silence free speech, with an especial focus on Christian preachers. Here are the police threatening Christian preachers on K Road with arrest, a site on which they have preached for 30 years.

Sadly we appear to be getting our impetus from the formerly Great Britain. Here is the sad tale of Hatun Tash, a Christian convert from Islam. She was stabbed by a black clad man recently. It is clear that his intention was to kill her and to silence her. This on speakers corner in London which was a bastion of free speech.

Unfortunately the more we learn the worse it is. Miss Tash has been threatened multiple times and assaulted. The police who are present do not take any action to protect Miss Tash. In fact they are more likely to arrest her and try and shut her down rather than confront the angry Muslims who are assaulting her and threatening her. The reason the police do this is because they are instructed to avoid any appearance of bias against Muslims, now labelled by the radical left as Islamophobia.

We have the sad tale in the formerly Great Britain and spreading here, of a society that will not defend itself. That will not defend its own religion, that will not even defend a core tenant of liberal democracy – free speech. In fact we have a society where it’s law enforcement is biased against it’s own Christian religion and is terrified of Islam. One can see how the industrial strength gang rape of young British women by Pakistani Muslim men was allowed to occur in cities like Bradford. The police were terrified to take the appropriate action against Muslims, even though multiple serious crimes were being committed.

We need to take these lessons on board and defend ourselves here. If you don’t like Christianity fine. You have to sort that out with God.
But you have to at least draw the line at freedom of speech. We have to defend freedom of speech. Otherwise liberal democracy is gone, for this generation and generations to come.

  The CH-CH wizard was an atheist and the old lady was a Christian but police never bothered them. It’s the police who have changed – not the public.
  
  That cop wasn’t being clear or precise, in other words it’s probably his own opinion and not that of the police. He appeared to be struggling.
  And that’s the problem with police today — getting too involved in conversations with the general public over civil matters and giving policing a bad name. They should stick to criminal law – things like being abusive in public.

Jacinda Ardern accused of treating Politics ‘ as a game’s after posts emerge of her calling for housing as a human right.
But a spokesperson for the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has defended the comments saying they were made while she was in opposition.
The Human Rights Commission announced on Monday it will launch a national enquiry into housing as it says there has been a failure to address the issue by successive Governments Ardern then dodged questions about whether the housing crisis is a human rights crisis.
However an old Facebook post of Arderns has re- emerged where she appears to call onthe then National Government to take action over housing issues.

  Yes with a couple of exceptions they are bloody useless. The “Demand the Debate” slogan is ineffective. I was talking to a bunch of mates last night. All in business. All despise the current government. All eight thought it was idiotic.
  
  Because it devoid of alternative ideas that people can understand. That is why ACT is winning. ACT realises that only transformational change will now repair the country.
  
  Here is a challenge to National. Come up with a plan to fix the school system. Because with those two clowns Hekia Parata and Nikki Kaye you started the slide.
  
  If National win what will they do? There will be a spending crunch and they will make a whole lot of Wellington public servants redundant. They will repeal the worst of the specific laws. They may insert some sanity into transport spending.
  
  But we don’t need a new government to be “less worse” than the current government. After all that is hardly a high bar.

It is my sincere hope that climate change turns out to be a seriously serious problem.
( A range of changes are already going to happen no matter what humanity does – I just hope they impact in a way that requires peoples full attention)
Reason: it will give all the queers and weirdoes and snowflakes and woke lot and bike riders and anti-conversion therapists and anti-vaxers and anti-landlorders and all the rest of the bums that are trying to change society for the worse, something really serious to worry about.
When the sea rises a couple of metres and rain storms wipe out roads and peoples front lawns and heat stroke kills more than even the worst covid predictions then these bums will have something actually serious to confront and devote their time to.
We might even make real progress and build a nuclear power station in NZ.
(and for those who scream “what about the waste” – Finland has developed a deep mine in ancient rock to put all the nasties that we make. And a town in the Australian desert is in the process of developing a nuclear waste mine. There is already a deep mine in S.Australia for all sort of nasty waste. Australias ancient rock has been there millions of years and will be there for more millions of years – way more than the time for nuclear waste to break down and revert to pretty much what it is that we mine these days for nuclear fuel.)

    Yep same as in Australia. In the woke run state of Victoria it’s premier (leader of the state) stated the BLM marches during the pandemic were for a “good cause”. Even though he told them not to march, they went ahead anyway and they were let off. Shortly thereafter there was an outbreak and a very long lockdown! No relationship at all according to the lefty infested media. On the other hand, anti lockdown protesters (mostly idiots too IMHO) were pounced on with violence by the cops. Even suggesting as a non-SJW that you might protest the lockdowns resulted in your door being smashed in and plain clothes cops dragging you and you phones/computers away for interrogation.   Not sure how you can link the exploration ban to the decision to close the refinery. We don’t refine our own oil production, because it’s the wrong type of oil. We ship our oil to Asia for refining, & import a different type of crude for refining at Marsden Pt.

      Haha kowtow. Doing your bit to replenish the atmosphere with plant food it lost millions of years ago. The ocean is THE big Co2 sink. When the ocean slowly cools (courtesy of how little/much sun energy is hitting the planet) it absorbs more Co2. When the ocean very slowly heats up (courtesy of how little/much sun energy is hitting the planet) the oceans release Co2 into the atmosphere. 97% of the @420ppm Co2 in the atmosphere (ie 0.042% of the atmosphere is currently Co2) was NOT put there by humans. It’s of natural origin. Co2 can only absorb certain warming wavelengths to a certain point. Beyond that point the theoretical heating effect diminishes as you add more Co2.
      BTW ignore the Wikipedia, DeSmogBlog, Greenpiss etc smear pieces on these highly credentialed climate scientists. These types of orgs are just idiotic fronts for SJW zealotry.   No – the refinery closure can’t be blamed on the ban. The refinery was designed and operated to run on heavy crude. The oil that came out of Taranaki is light crude so had to be shipped to oil refineries overseas for processing. So the loss of that Taranaki oil does not affect the refinery’s economics.
  The refinery is closing as it is small, old and too expensive to run.

      They can only put a small amount of NZ crude into the refinery feedstock. NZ uses about 50/50 petrol diesel/avtur.
      Crudes are a mixtures of carbon chain or ring molecules. The more carbons, the higher the boilingpoint and viscosity Petrol is typically C5-C8, Diesel is C9 to C14. Lube oils and bitumen are heavier. They separate these out in fractionating columns which work on the fluids’ boiling points.
      The NZ crude is very high in light fractions, maybe 90/10 petrol diesel.
      In converters, cracking and hydrogenation units, you can either add carbon chain molecules together or more commonly, split them apart. But they add more cost to the output, which is fairly low margin. Easier to blend feedstocks to give the output mix you want.
      There are whole chapters of it in textbooks (remember them) if you want more details.

        I’m also aware you can turn coal into fuel through the same process and now you are too.
        Future oil exploration and exploitation around New Zealand could have secured further deposits which could have also been refined at Marsden.
        Not anymore.
        This idea that New Zealand was/is unable to refine it’s own locally produced crude oil is a meme.

        In 2020, total crude oil production, 44.8PJ. Total amount exported 41.83PJ plus there was stock in transit. In 2018 (pre Covid), we produced 59.50PJ and exported 59.61PJ. – Variations year to year depending on storage and shipping schedules. Why would they pay transportation costs to export to a SE Asian refinery it if it could be used here?
        SASOL only extracted oil from coal because they had to. There were boycotts so they couldn’t import crude. And the process they used was a fair bit different to that used in oil refineries. Quite inefficient and very energy intensive, but they could get their fuelstock very cheap. Same with the tar sands in central Canada manufacturing dilbit.
        NZ doesn’t have those sort of resources. And our geology is probably too young to get significant quantities of heavy crude. If you don’t have access to a variety of crudes to blend, then your refinery needs to be purpose-built. Our total imports were 317PJ of which crude oil was half, so we already imported much of our fuel requirement refined and ready for use.

        What both of us were pointing out was the refinery isn’t set up to process NZ crude to get the fuel mix we need. If you are the expert on refinery operation, what bits of kit do they need to convert light crude to diesel and the cost of that process?

    Refineries have also been closing in Australia. It is reducing to two from four, and from eight 20 years ago.
    
    An ABC reporter writing about BP, explains:
    
    “It blamed the regional over-supply of fuel and the growth of mega-refineries in Asia and the Middle East that had structurally changed the regional fuel market, saying Kwinana couldn’t compete with those overseas refineries any more.”
    
    Just under half the shares in the operator of the Marsden Point refinery are held by its big customers BP, ExxonMobil, and Z Energy.
    
    Exxon is closing its Altona oil refinery in Melbourne, saying it was no longer economically viable. Exxon has a refinery at Jurong Island, Singapore, that has a capacity of 605,000 barrels per day, compared with Marsden Point’s 135,000 bpd.
    
    Exxon also part-owns a 335,000 bpd refinery in Saudi Arabia.
    
    BP is selling three of its eight refineries in the United States. The three supply mainly local markets. The three have a combined refining out of 177,000 bpd.
    
    With these closed, BP will be left with global refining capacity of 2.8 million bpd, just over half of it still in the United States.

  The cynic in me thinks the government couldn’t give a toss about those losing their jobs, as resulting increase in petrol and diesel costs will likely reduce hydrocarbon fuel powered vehicle use; their overall aim.

        The P3K Orion can drop mines, torpedos and bombs, and they regularly practise this. The new P8 can launch the Harpoon missile (range 100km) as well as the above. NZ does not have any Harpoon missiles, but since we are getting the delivery of the P8 next year, that may change.

So we are led to believe that Maori and Pacific Islanders are victims of suppression and racism. We, the white colonisers, have stripped them of their dignity and self worth resulting in them not being able to compete on equal terms with all other New Zealanders. It is clear our Olympic competitors, many of whom posses Maori and Pacific heritage, didn’t receive the memo.

Most of our medals have been won by those, who according to this Labour Government, have no right to be successful due to the oppression, we the colonisers, have imposed upon them. Lisa Carrington, Valerie Adams, David Nyika, David Liti, the Black Ferns, All Black Sevens. In fact thirty-three (16%) of a team of 211 athletes selected are of Maori descent. Amongst the others there are many of Pacifica descent as well. They have outperformed their European teammates by a large margin when it comes to their medal haul.

How can that be? It can’t be possible. Success is not achievable without government intervention. Ardern has waved her magic wand. Her separatism programme has worked a treat. But then again, it is quite possible there may have been other forces at play. Forces like great parents, great dedication, endurance, ambition, application, and above all, passion and damn hard work.

If ever a group of young athletes were delivering a message to their ethnic kin back home, these are they. The colour of their skin is irrelevant. They are wonderful New Zealanders making all New Zealanders proud. This, in spite of living in a politically hostile environment where they are constantly reminded how incapable they are of taking responsibility of their own destiny. Politicians are the antagonist of Maori and Pacifica advancement. This group of wonderful athletes are exposing the lie this Government is promoting. The Government can crawl back into its collective hole of separatism whilst the rest of us share our diversity in sport. Now I’m preparing to watch Lidia Ko do what she does best. She’s not white either.

    info, there is no place for electric vehicles. Detailed anaslysis of what is required to convert the developed world (because you can’t convert Africa, Latin America or much of Asia) to EVs is a nonsense that has been perpetrated from the boardrooms of a few self interested companies.
    
    Just as an electric vehicle will not work for the climate advisor in the UK, they don’t work in New Zealand. A simple example for you -try going for a weekend’s skiing down at Mt Ruapehu leaving auckland Friday night, returning Sunday evening. Along with everyone else spending a weekend at the ski clubs on the mountain, how are all the vehicles there going to get recharged to do the return journeys to Auckland or Wellington? Or as a young man, with a friend of mine we did a week’s skiing in the South Island – such a trip would be impossible in a week.
    
    Then you have the life cycle of the electric vehicle and generating enough electricity to power a fleet of 5 million vehicles, while not making the power system of NZ fail.

  Remember that passports and border control (as we know them today) were a temporary measure introduced during WW1, but the League of Nations loved them so much that they standardized the practice in the 1920s.

    Having travelled around Africa I’ve had a vaccine passport (not sure if it’s called that name) for decades as you’re bonkers if you don’t get vaccinated and you do need to carry around proof of vaccination just in case.
    
    Various countries have controls around entering without appropriate vaccines. Yellow Fever springs to mind. I recall a conversation with fellow kiwis entering Tanzania who hadn’t had a yellow fever vaccination as it was not compulsory (more accurately Tanzania has a confusing and changing policy).
    
    I explained that they might have a problem leaving Tanzania as other countries would expect them to have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever.
    
    I was asked whether I had Yellow Fever vaccination on entering Australia. I chatted to the immigration officials and they indicated that they would potentially stick me in isolation if they felt we had been in Yellow Fever infection areas and weren’t vaccinated. They had occasionally refused entry.

        @cruzpo – we do know that in the short term it is significantly less dangerous than Covid as there have been literally billions of injections (hundreds of millions for Pfizer) and a relatively small number of adverse reactions compared to Covid bad outcomes, which is the whole point.
        
        That number of injections moves us past “new, never tried and experimental” and in to the realms of thinking about potential long term issues.
        
        Certainly some people may feel that their risk is low enough that they would rather not take an unknown long term risk. Personally, I think that’s daft, trading off the definitely known bad against the possible bad.

He’s just informed us that the Pfizer Vaccine is most effective when the first and 2nd jabs are delivered 8-12 weeks apart. He wouldn’t opt for the short period (2-4 weeks) being used in NZ.

  I take the point Maggie, but I think that NZers don’t truly appreciate how fortunate we are to be living a pre-COVID lifestyle. There’s a lot of bravado here & elsewhere about COVID only being mostly a case of the sniffles etc, but don’t underestimate the strain of social separation, living mostly at home, being worried about how kids, parents etc are coping. We are still living a normal life, albeit with hits to selected business sectors. We can meet up with mates, go to the pub or church or the restaurant without a second thought. That’s gold.

Industries decimated. Debt at obscene levels future generations will need to repay. The list goes on and on. And worst of all NZ will get its spike in excess deaths, it’s just been delayed.   Perhaps this is just an indication that the vaccine’s effectiveness drops off with time.
  
  Over simplifying here for illustration, but let’s say the vaccine is effective for 15 weeks. If you get a jab and are then topped up again 2 weeks later then you get 17 weeks of cover.
  
  If you only get the second jab after 12 weeks then you get 27 weeks of cover.
  
  Of course it isn’t nearly as simple as that, but given the lack of hard evidence it is difficult to say to what extent this vaccine is effective.

Why get the vaccine now if the govt isn’t going to open the country until next year, if that? If there is no covid around, then why take the risk? There is no long-term data on the safety of this novel vaccine method.

Plus, it’s sounding as if, by next year, the virus will be well mutated and a new vaccine will be needed.

When the borders open, and covid becomes a concern here, then it will be time to consider taking the risk.

  dcrane , I have a very similar view, I live on a farm 40 kms from town, I have been in lock down for 200 days, in an area that has never recorded a case.
  They are now demanding 80% before I won’t have to wear a face nappy to go down the paddock by myself.
  I will not touch the vaccines that are here now, my neighbors and some friends have done the experimenting for me and there has been very mixed results.
  The latest TGA figures show 407 deaths throughout Australia from vaccines, 68 a month so a couple a day, events as in problems about 8,000 a month.
  I have at this stage thoughts about going with the Novovax which is due end of the year.
  I see no rush at all, I am statistically going to kill myself with a chainsaw or falling off the ladder at 70 years old before a form of flu takes me out.
  If I don’t clean my gutters, I don’t get any water.
  I am not an anti vaxxer, I term my myself as an anti human lab rat.

NZ is flying hundreds of people to Dubai (including performers), building a single-use pavilion and spending over $60M.

And this is being done in the Sustainability District.

“The original budget for the event had risen by about $9m due to the event being delayed by a year due to Covid. The majority of the spend has been on the building.”

$9M extra on a $60M spend up is only 15% inflation. Almost sounds frugal.

It seems me they could have done a far better job by:
* Sending less than 100 people.
* Put up a few huge displays and go digital – thereby cutting costs, reducing CV19 infection/MIQ use and simultaneously showcasing NZs digital industry.

I see that the lead stories on both stuff and nzherald are interviews with St Jacinda and the road ahead with respect to covid.

I havent bothered to read either article and was initially somewhat disgusted by the fawning headlines and lead in text.

However having thought about it the articles clearly illustrate that covid is all that they have got to run on.

The rest of the world is moving on and simply learning to live with covid. Eventually covid will become endemic in nz one way or another. The borders will be open eventually.

As inflation starts to bite and interest rates rise the MSM attention will shift. By 2023 Covid will be yesterdays news.

In short the articles illustrate that it is all downhill from here for St Jacinda.

I turned off Jack Tame in less than the first minute of his Saturday morning show on NewstalkZB this morning.
He totted off 25 things ‘off the top of my head’ that he would have thought were important ‘issues’ (I loathe that word) in this country – and people are worrying about ‘Ao-tear-aroar’.
Ha-ha, he smugly chuckles.
As I reached over and turned him off I thought: ‘You could say the same about your precious, ‘progressive’ Labour government you seem to love so much.’
I thought about the other day as Labour introduced a bill in the House about banning conversion ‘therapy’. Radio broadcast emotional bits of speeches by Louisa Wall and Dr Ayesha Verrall.
And like Jack Tame I quickly ran through my mind all the problems that are stacking up and this Government seems unable to summon the skills to deal with them. Child poverdee, anybody?
And this Labour government Young Jack seems to love so much ‘cos they’re ‘progressive’ devotes time and effort to banning something – and maybe make criminals out of parents – that is not a pressing problem here in ‘Ao-tear-aroar’.
Fewer people, it would seem to me, are affected than the thousands and thousands of children living in ‘poverdee’.
Remember Jacinda’s special project?
Jack got caught out a bit on Thursday evening during ‘The Huddle’ segment of Heather du Plessis-Allan’s programme.
This ‘Ao-tear-aroar’ thing came up. Jack, as usual, was airily condescending and supercilious about any view but his own and those who think like him.
Nick Mills – who is making a damned good fist of being host of a reinstated morning programme in Wellington – just made a comment that he thought the TV broadcasters in particularly were being a bit forced in their babbling away in te reo; that it didn’t seem natural.
Jack did not react well and the mask of good-natured supercilious self-righteousness slipped a bit.
I suspect that’s why he returned to the subject this morning – smugly superior, condescending. He can all but call those who think differently – ‘racists’.
By the way: if you watched 1 ‘News’ last evening you would have noticed that Andrew Saville – who this year has taken to introducing the sports section by babbling away in te reo – simply said: ‘Welcome to sport.’
Well done that man! It’s all that’s needed.
One last thing: I was not flying a flag for the so-called conversion therapy.
I have a much-loved, much younger relative who has begun to transition to the human being they always thought they should be.
She is a much-loved niece. She will be a much-loved nephew.

  This is really gaming the system.
  
  The intention of the business investment category is surely that these people bring their money, skills and influence to NZ to build up the NZ economy and increase opportunities for other people in NZ.
  
  Just depositing $3M in the bank and buying a holiday house/bug out location then continuing to live in Fiji is of no benefit to anyone.

I just found a post I made in July 2020 about the Ro on another forum. Was I correct at all?:

“Anyway, about this nasty flu. This will be my final post about it. No one wants to discuss it anymore. I’ve depressed myself on the topic. However, the economic fallout from corona is the biggest event in a generation, so it deserves further analysis, as tedious as it is.

It is interesting study of mass psychology. As a maverick, I often find the way most people think to be strange. In ancient times, no doubt I would have been cast out of the group, and left to starve alone. Ha.

Anyway, at the beginning of the crisis, the Swedes stood alone. They correctly concluded that this nasty flu would become endemic (it has). While the world was lost in mass hysteria, the Swedes were cold, calculated, rational and dispassionate, as Nordic people typically are. Gradually, every country in the world will open their borders, and learn to live with the virus. Everyone will eventually take the Swedish road.
Only NZ and Oz now stand alone, fighting the inevitable spread of this nasty flu. The question is why do we choose this path?

One reason for this is that there is always hope. An elixir of life, a magic potion, could miraculously save us all. However, most scientists say a vaccine won’t stop all deaths from this nasty flu. The people who have died here so far of corona – typically over 90 years old, with terrible pre-conditions – will still probably die, even with a vaccine. Most people realise this, although its almost unspeakable to say it. When you bring it up, they whisper that you are right, but Fortress NZ should continue, in any case.

This brings to me the second possible reason why we continue down this policy dead end – the huge economic damage is penance for our soon to be committed communal sin. In this unconscious world view, we must suffer terrible economic hardship before we open our borders. We must sacrifice our economy, because the inevitable deaths of people demand this sacrifice. The Swedes didn’t take this approach, but their pagan and Protestant roots are different.

I have a third possible reason for the policy continuing. We need someone to blame for changing it. Everyone knows what needs to be done, but no-one wants to be responsible for doing it. Some think that after the election, Ms Ardern will open the borders.

This would be rather ironical. The woman who some seem to believe is a latter-day Messiah, would get the chance to play her role in history. She would be sacrificed to the mob, in the most almighty backlash in history, even though everybody secretly knows opening the borders must happen. If Ms Ardern is the great leader her supporters claim her to be, this is what she will do.

However, my prediction is that Ms Ardern won’t do the right thing. I think that she is a weak person, so she will maintain Fortress NZ policies permanently. The autistic savants in the Health Ministry will continue chanting their fixed and murderous ideological view, supporting her in this folly.

Instead, Ms Ardern will introduce Think Big Mark 2, to try to replace the tourism industry’s obliteration overnight with something else. It will be a disaster. The America’s Cup wasted funds will simply be a rounding error in comparison.”

Land Information NZ was allocating $40m ober 4 years for a job-creation initiative involving work to control pests and weeds.
The initiative was expected to create about 100 jobs, 70% in Canterbury and Otago, the remainder in Southland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
ACT Conservation spokeswoman Nicole McKee said it was ridiculous.
Budget documents showed Jobs for Nature programme costs for wallaby pest control of $685,000 per person employed.
“It’s time to give up these expensive programmes and start spending taxpayer’s money more responsibly,” she said.

    Meurant was referring to the conservative values which the nats once stood for & upheld. They no longer represent those values, they’re now, like labour, a socially & economically liberal party.
    
    After Muldoon bit the dust Rogernomic liberalisation & globalisation became the new reality, so those who still held old school tory values became fewer & fewer.

      But I do agree Nationals values have slipped and regretfully their values are no longer mine.

I posted a $5 bar of chocolate to England. Postage was $23!!! It is apparent that NZ Post is trying desperately to commit suicide. The rigmarole of filling out the new export form was unbelievable. Initials for first name, insufficient, postcode for suburb, insufficient, despite the full address being on the package, etc, etc. Note to self: Do not send little treats to family in the future. Anyone know of a cheaper way to send such things?

  I don’t think that she will be prepared to sacrifice hate speech, because this legislation is a consequence of her Messiah complex. This mental illness also protects the “pray against the gay” legislation. I think these are the policies she wants to keep the most.
  
  With the borders, it’s a bit different. Here, she’s afraid people will die when the Ro becomes endemic, so her achievement of saving lives will be shown to be transient.
  
  Approximately the same number of people will probably die in any case – she’s just wasted $100 billion or so delaying the process for a couple of years.
  
  Irrespectively, since Ro is regarded as her only successful policy, she won’t abandon it. Borders open would see her go from hero to zero, and be responsible for mass death.
