Kainga Ora hiring spree- 1,000 extra staffsee Government Housing Agency nearly double.
Kainga Ora the Government housing agency has added more than a 1,000 staff since Labour too office in 2017, nearly doubling its size and our housing crisis has more than doubled in size since.
National Housing Spokeswoman Nicola Willis has questioned the rapid growth of the agency, noting had hired more staff than its build Kiwibuild homes.
” During this time the housing crisis has gotten worse not better said Willis”, there were 1223 people employed in 2017 four years later the total staff is 2,272 according to written Parliamentary questions to Willis.
Housing Minister Megan Woods said the increased numbers were down to Kainga Ora doing more jobs than under the previous Government, like consenting. ” What the staffing number tell is a story of a Government that since 2017 has recognized there is a housing crisis and that has a active roll to play fixing the crisis” , Wood said.

Even the most ardent supporters of our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern or Labour would not be able to find a reason or excuse for these blatant lies that Megan Wood continues to spew and like all other things that this Government processes to do it’s easy to play the blame game when you have the media prepared to back up the lies, last week it was the Electricity outage this week it is the housing crisis the Labour Government has no shame.

        Although I can see your point,, I would not totally agree with you.
        
        I worked for the US government as a civilian on a naval base. The vast majority of the people I was lucky enough to work with were incredibly hard working. Yes, there were a few that should just have been paid to stay at home so they wouldn’t bother the real workers, but for the most part my fellow workers put in long hours to get things done.

  I’m calling BS on the consenting claim as Housing NZ is not a Territorial Authority with approval to issue consents. If Woods is suggesting they prepare the documentation for consent, then I’m calling BS on that as well as that would be done either by the Building Company, or the design organization and given they are using the likes of Mike Greer Homes, then it will all be covered by them.
  Could it be they are so bloody useless all they can do is increase staff numbers – The woman couldn’t lie straight in bed and she continually get a free pass.

    HNZ has its own consenting company in Auckland that only does KO houses, but NZ wide. KO uses plans that are pre approved from the slab up so when a application goes in its only the parking , landscape and slab details that need looking at.

  Actually it looks like Kainga Ora is doing rather well to have only doubled staff. After all it took over a social housing waiting list of 5,844 (Sept 2017) and the waiting list is now 24,404 (May 2021). Then there’s the households in motels etc. Those waiting lists don’t manage themselves you know.
  
  Minister Woods didn’t mention those numbers. Just a swing at the last National government and how important it is to have lots more project managers now.

      Spot prices are not hydro prices or average prices.
      
      Spot prices are based on asking the question: “If someone wants to add another 1MW of demand, how much is that going to cost?” ie. it is indicative of the most expensive generation running at the time.
      
      For the most part, that is the cost of spinning up OCGT (diesel-fuelled jet engines).
      
      It is also a way to discourage further demand when the system is near stability limits. Different parts of the grid can only handle a certain load and these high spot prices are a way to encourage people off the grid at peak times.

I hadn’t heard about this until Kate Hawkesby and Mike Hosking mentioned it this morning.

Chlöe Swarbrick has condemned Amazon for deciding to shift production of the second season of Lord of the Rings to the UK, and, in a move that is sure to have Jeff Bezos in tears (not), says founder Jeff Bezos “is [no longer] always welcome” in New Zealand.

I rather suspect that if he has even heard about it, Mr Bezos’ first reaction would have been something like, “Who is Chlöe Swarbrick?” And once someone filled him in, he probably went, “Meh”.

Because, let’s be honest – it’s just the Greens. I’ve said this before – it’s like watching a five-year-old have a temper tantrum; it’s impossible to take them seriously. So when one of them starts wagging a finger and saying, “How dare you!”, most adults are probably trying not to laugh at them, because you’re not meant to laugh at a five-year-old having a temper tantrum.

A 16-year-old stabbed at an out-of-control party raises a number of issues, and the concerning direction our society is heading. For Air BNB to cry a river of tears over their part in this saga is nauseating, as they are just after their cut of the rental fee and don’t give a toss to the consequences.
For the school where dead person attended to now say they will bring in counsellors for distressed students, spending precious school resources at the expense of those students that don’t indulge in this anti-society crap is indicative of the woke approach schools now take – Schools should be screaming the anti-drink/drug word and not tolerating any pupil involvement. This Green Party lead acceptance of teenage drug culture has a lot to answer for, and a dead young man is attesting to that.
The Police who had to attend, most likely included staff that attended a recent out of control event where a bystander screaming abuse at the police was pushed over; with that officer being subject to the trauma of an Independent Police Inquiry (possible loss of his job), yet no consequences for the pricks that organised the party.
Of greatest concern is the drive to have the age group involved in this tragedy given the right to vote, and given both Labour and the Greens are supportive, speaks volumes of their liberal no-consequences approach.
Unnecessarily a young man is dead, and unfortunately it is a consequence of our society – so sad.

        A big difference with normal tenant parties is that normal tenants have to live with the consequences: front up to noise complaints and possibly getting tenancy tribunal involvement.
        
        Airbnb is a bit like thrashing a hire car, but with less consequences.

  Auckland University SUDI expert Dr Ed Mitchell said deaths dropped sharply between 2009 and 2016. The $5 million a year National SUDI Prevention Programme was launched to further reduce these. But almost straight away the number of deaths rose, now up 30 percent since 2017.

Labour is arguably guilty of Criminal Negligence in its dereliction of duty: Yesterday Aysha Verrall said government was not contemplating ordering Pfizer booster jabs because ” the WHO doesnt recommend them and there is no evidence of need”.
The Israelis have demonstrated attenuating efficacy with time & according to this Daily Mail article the UK is about to insist on them for aged care health workers. We however languish with an increasing inept PM & cabinet in charge.!

        That is a comprehensive, and well referenced essay, one deserving of more critique that I can provide right now.
        
        A key issue I have is the author’s baseline notion of “Driving Covid-19 to extinction” which the best evidence to-date suggests is not possible. What we may be able to ‘drive to extinction’ is excess, uncontrolled deaths, and as they rightly point out there is now much stronger evidence informing prophylaxis and treatment protocols.

        Tall Man, that is an excellent essay, I recommend it to all. Wish I could have written something like that myself.
        
        Brings up three critical points;
        
        The vaccines are not sterilising and are very leaky, that is probably driving viral evolution right now;
        
        The current vaccines are potentially dangerous to some age cohorts, more so than the disease, and the data we need to assess this properly is being deliberately not collected properly;
        
        Prophylactic treatment (as well as early stage treatment) is essential to help fight this disease, and yet it is being deliberately withheld for two reasons, political and profit.
        
        We won’t get it, but a proper enquiry into the whole affair and the actions taken would be a serious commitment to avoiding a similar debacle in the next pandemic.

      To manufacture stuff we have to combat:
      Compliance costs,
      Labour costs including Govt intervention in Wages, Holidays, Minimum Wage and Unionised strikes,
      Resource Management and Environmental constraints,
      An extremely small consumer market and freight costs,
      Race Relations involved in staff recruiting, training and workplace employment,
      Covid Lockdowns complete with loss of Production, Profit and Market Share,
      Gender Equity of employment and
      The ever moving goalposts of Taxation, Property Rates, Energy and Water.

A Napier father caring for his sick 11-year-old in the US says they’ll swim home if that’s what it takes after being declined an emergency MIQ spot.

It comes after Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern received an open letter on behalf of almost 2000 Kiwis abroad calling for immediate and urgent changes to the MIQ system.

Maddox Preston was just nine when he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. He’s had four brain surgeries and two rounds of chemo in New Zealand but the tumour keeps coming back.

“The prognosis wasn’t good but hey we gotta keep fighting,” his father Chad Preston says.

That fight led Maddox, now 11, and his family to fly to the US city of Houston six weeks ago so he could undergo potentially lifesaving treatment.

Now they’re stuck there, unable to get a spot in managed isolation.

Their application for an emergency MIQ spot was bolstered by letters from doctors in the US and from Starship Hospital, yet it’s been declined.

“We’re not asking for any special treatment or anything like that, we just want to come home and continue to care for our son,” Chad says.

It’s barely a year ago that the Government launched a costly PR campaign, among other things urging us to “Be Kind”. Pardon me Prime Minister, but I’m really struggling to see the kindness on display towards the Preston family.

Our immigration and MIQ systems are a sick joke. That’s of course unless you’re a wealthy American internet magnate, one of The Wiggles or part of the cast and crew of Ru Paul’s Drag Race or one of David Clark’s mountain biking mates who have had MIQ spots allocated for them to attend a festival in New Zealand. In those cases, the joke’s on us, and it’s not at all funny.

This report was commissioned by the Labour Government.

While they may claim that they have yet to formally adopt it, it is being implemented by stealth.

As the Deputy Mayor of Invercargill, I see this implementation in many Government activities.

My personal view is that what used to be referred to as consultation, is now written as codesign.

And more importantly, what used to be partnership, which is not automatically 50:50, is now written as cogovernance.

A good example of this are the

Three Waters reforms.

The proposed new water entity for the South Island will have a board accountable to two stakeholder groups, each of which will have the same voice.

The first is 27 councils representing 1.5 million people (including all Maori).

The second is Ngai Tahu, as mana whenua, representing less than onetenth of the other group.

Another example is the separated Maori Health Agency with veto rights over the Ministry of Health.

I am a ‘‘oneterm only’’ elected member, but I can predict the following on the horizon.

Half of all future council councillors will need to be mana whenua.

The current conservation estate, managed by the Department of Conservation, will be governed or cogoverned by mana whenua.

And added to that, He Puapua will empower greater governance by mana whenua, over fresh water, land and foreshore.

The report is well worth a google search.

I believe this will be a hot topic at the next general election.

    Local Government NZ have already acknowledged that the Minister could mandate the 3 waters “tomorrow” and Mahuta has not ruled this out saying that local Councils that opt out are misinformed. It is more than time that the Nats make their position on this really clear.     Not necessarily. Severe covid is characterized by hyper-inflammation rather than respiratory failure, something that wasn’t known in the early stages of the pandemic. It was discovered (in New York IIRC) that excessive ventilation was actually hastening death of those in the late stages of the illness.

    * Australia is the country most like ours (location, smaller size, British past etc), so is a good benchmark.
    * Kiwis can easily move to Australia for work, so hopping over the ditch is on people’s minds.

What is Afghanistan’s form of govt, is it a democratic system or what?

Is this country part developed/3rd world?

How much does the muslim religion play in most of the peoples lives in that country?

We know the Taliban are cut throat terrorists who take the muslim religion to a fanatical/extremist
level but what can the US and its allies really do about this?

In my view one of the reasons the Afghan govt and its army never seem to get on top of the Taliban is because their own military personal defect and end up joining the Taliban.

Its a lose/lose situation for the poor people of that country and the west who try to help.

  It’s a collection of individual tribal/ethnic groups, each ruled by a “warlord”, and with those groups coalescing into alliances that are always shifting and seething.
  
  Individuals have allegiance and connection to their tribe/ethnic group, but little or no allegiance to the concept of an “Afghanistan” nation state. The ida of nation states is important to Westerners, but not really how the individual Afghanis see themselves.
  
  FWIW … I’ve never come across any tribal-based culture that’s delivered good outcomes for its members.

  A few of the people that died in the Chch Mosque shooting had 6 or more kids and hadn’t stopped yet.
  
  Somalia has 6 births per woman. Since many women there are nowhere near finished child bearing the real number is way up on that.
  
  In once century (4.5 generations) one such couple will have 560 offspring (assuming none die). At those rates, NZ’s Muslim population will reach 14 million by then.
  
  Even if we work with the averages for Muslim countries of around 3 babies per mother, we’re still looking at a million or so.
  
  Westerners, on the other hand are not even hitting replacement and the rate is dropping. In 100 years the 4.5 million of us will become 500,000.
  
  ie. At current rates, NZ will be a Muslim country somewhere around 2100.

Whanganui school has a vaccine event for over 16s?

Will all high schools be vaccinating directly? How does it work – obviously peer pressure at school to do so. Will my high school send the parents any information about the vaccination events or will they just vaccinate the teens. So no parental consent needed? Will they get the teens medical history from their doctors? What about boys who have a higher risk of myocarditis. Will they cover off the risks. Will they tell them about the adverse events?

  That they will knowingly push experimental gene therapies (aka vaccines) into the shoulders of the least at-risk, and possibly least informed demographic is very, very wrong.

  I agree that solar doesn’t work when the sun isn’t shining and wind doesn’t work when the wind is nowhere to be seen. But really, any additional energy when the sun does shine and the wind does blow has to be welcomed, doesn’t it?
  
  The idea is to accept what wind and solar can provide but do not rely on it.
  
  Wind and solar can both help preserve hydro power by not requiring the hydro generators to empty lakes when other power is available.
  
  There are two times of day when power requirements peak, 9 am and 7 pm. The solar panels on my roof work quite well at 9 am, not so much at 7 pm. But on a sunny day I don’t have to use much energy at 7 pm because the solar panels have already warmed my water heater.

      Alloytoo, no, wind at least in some proportion does help extend the hydro lake storage and as such is indeed useful.
      
      It isn’t base load and has to work in concert with hydro, but it is not entirely;y useless even considering its destructive ways with birdlife.

    That’s not generating power as such, presumably you have a solar based hot water heating installation rather than electricity generating panels ? Nothing insensible about that although until the price of electricity increased it was at best marginally economic over the very long term. My forebears came to New Zealand from England, generally around the 1860’s. I don’t have any Maori or Pacifica blood.

People had big families back in the day, so it is no surprise that large numbers of my ancestors trudged through the First and Second World Wars. I have been lucky enough to go on tours to some of these battlefields, such as Monte Cassino, where some of my relatives fought.

Some died on the battlefield, although most lived – albeit that some had mental and physical scars for life.

Half my life, I have lived in Europe, including over a decade in London.

In summary, I would say that my culture is European.

Winston Churchill is more than arguably the greatest man of the Twentieth Century.

He is central to the British, and European, idea of what their culture represents.

What it means to be a British person is bound up in pride at what they collectively achieved in WW2, led by the courageous Mr Churchill.

I think when the Greens demanded that the picture of Mr Churchill be pulled down and thrown away, what these people are really doing is spitting on my culture.

Cindy casually cancelled Mr Churchill, without a care in the world. Cindy disrespects and is disdainful of European culture, in a self-loathing way. Of course, she worships Muslim and Maori culture.

The majority of New Zealanders come from a European background. I think it is wrong to completely disrespect these peoples culture.

  Gross exaggeration.
  
  I might add that my father and three brothers were all in uniform during WWII.
  My mother was English & we were brought up with the greatest respect for Churchill and I remember the occasion of his funeral.
  The Churchill painting, judging by the photo on the the National Party web site was first hung in parliament in Holyoake’s day and has already been moved at least once.
  The Greens didn’t want the painting thrown away, but relocated again and whoever decides these things were ok with that.

    So did about 50,000 volunteers from the Republic of Ireland, including the youngest fighter ace in the RAF, Brendan Finucane.
    
    Nearly 5,000 soldiers deserted from the Republic of Ireland Army to fight in the British Army in World War 2, and about quarter of a million Irish were given travel permits to work in Britain during the war.

  Comparing Te Reo spoken in New Zealand to speaking French in France is not reasonable. 99.99% of people living in France speak French. What percentage of people living in New Zealand speak Te Reo?
  
  I don’t mind your speaking Te Reo but you are smart enough to know that you will have a limited audience even amongst Maori’s.

    The lingo is fixed at about 1835.
    OK to describe kumera planting but no a computer assignment.
    Still useful on a Marae and for following genealogies.

Maureen Taane, a Christchurch small retailer, is in Stuff today criticising organisers of a Queenstown retail event for not having sufficient Maori-retailer speakers.

Maureen Taane is associated with the online shop, “Tikitub”, which has links to Maori musician Tiki Taane.

Goods advertised in the online shop include T-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and baby gear with Maori emblems added or the English word “sober”. Tiki Taane CD’s are also on sale.

Maureen Taane can be seen in an online video speaking as owner, or one of the owners, of the Hapa gift shop at the Tannery in Christchurch.

In the video, linked to here, she tells of difficulty and delay during the lockdown in delivering goods to customers, and describes the shop as a whanau business:

I see after today’s cabinet meeting, Ardern and co are extremely concerned about the situation in Afghanistan. Wow, it is hard to keep up with the blinding speed of the government.

I was concerned late last week and over the weekend. Pity the government doesn’t take this whole governing NZ more seriously.

  Scenes at Kabul airport and the city today show very few (in fact couldn’t spot any) women and children. Just acres of men pushing and shoving their way through trying to go somewhere. Turds as Bob Jones would say.

This follows YouTube removing video of constitutionally protected speech from the senate floor.

I am all for regulating commercial monopolies, and 100x that when a company sets themselves up as a global moral arbiter.
