‘Divisive Legislation’ only Maori can go fishing under level 4 legislation.
This legislation is wrong and cowardly if passed under urgency legislation by this Government and needs to be abolished as quickly as possible to stop any more racially create hate by this out of their depth Government.

  If I get “caught” fishing during level 4, what would happen if I told them that I’m part Maori? Which party has the burden of proof? If it’s me, what would be required to prove it?

Bad day at the office for Covinda yesterday some of the press starting to grow a pair. Wasn’t going to be questioned about the supply of vaccines . Plenty coming in October apparently . Still August though. Look at my graph we are world beaters for a day. I’ll have answers for any tricky questions on
Monday once my PR team have come up with acceptable spin.Bit late on the rescue of Afghans . Taliban not being that kind, cheers for the cash though ,can buy some new swords to chop infidels heads off with. Trying best to distance herself from blame for the situation by waving hands and saying we have taken the experts advice on everything .Article for the peeps in the herald on what Gaylord has learned from child to plicate the masses. Sickening.

    Also the latter shows that the PM’s thinking/understanding of the issue is a bit lacking and is clouding their strategy … which means their covid response strategy isn’t worth the paper it is written on, whenever the PM changes tack once she finally wakes up to the fact that “elimination” strategy not only isn’t going to work (she could have seen this months ago), but the international criticism is seeing her start to spin 180.

    “University of Auckland Covid-19 modeller Shaun Hendy said the Government may need to look at tightening alert level-4 restrictions if the outbreak did not plateau soon.
    
    This could include shutting some supermarkets and other essential businesses.
    
    “If it doesn’t plateau over the next few days then we may need to be thinking about tightening alert level-4 restrictions. The real worry is if we continue to see spread through businesses that are operating.”
    Hendy suggested thinking about “selectively closing supermarkets”. (NZ Herald today).

  Two children are among 11 people who have died from Covid-19 in Fiji, reports RNZ.
  
  The Government also confirmed 205 new cases for the 24 hours to 8am on Friday.
  
  That compares with 423 cases and six deaths the previous day.
  
  Health Secretary Dr James Fong said the children’s deaths showed a new picture of how the virus is spreading in the community.
  
  “The death of a child is always terrible and sadly Covid-19 does not discriminate. Whilst we know children are at significantly lower risk of suffering severe Covid, unfortunately as we continue to see the virus spread in our community, we will see children being infected and some tragically dying from the virus.
  
  “This is why I cannot reinforce enough that while Covid-19 vaccines are critically important, we must all continue to practise other Covid safety measures if we want to see a drop in cases in our community.
  
  “This means wearing a mask properly, keeping a physical distance from others outside our household, washing our hands regularly and avoiding crowds.
  
  “Without these measures and high levels of vaccination coverage, we can expect to see Covid continue to spread in our communities and find those who are most vulnerable.”
  
  Unfortunately, Dr Fong said the situation in the Western Division was getting worse.
  
  He said they were seeing an intensifying outbreak in the west.
  
  He said while there was drop in infections in the past 24 hours, they were concerned at the location of these cases.
  
  “We are now managing outbreaks in multiple locations across Fiji, including in some remote areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.” – RNZ

I posted this to Facebook in response to a contributor thinking that power companies are not building sufficient ‘green’ generation:
All five ‘gentailers’ have generation projects in the pipeline to meet any future increasing demand and will commence construction when the time seems appropriate. However the industry does not have access to the perfect crystal ball which predicts short and longer term demand, ‘dry’ years (as at present), wind not blowing as anticipated and sun not shining as anticipated. The unpredictability of the Aluminium Smelter future adds to forecasting woes. The major generators would readily build more if they knew they were going to get a return on the investment, but if they ‘overbuild’ the regulatory agencies will stop them getting this return. The Government could make this hefty expenditure (think Lake Onslow but other projects would be needed too) but this moves the risk to the taxpayer which means indirectly subsidised power. Anyone looking at this in depth recognises the need for cheap backstop generation to support mainstream generation to cover adverse circumstances. Even people who live ‘off grid’ will generally support their solar and wind generation with a petrol or diesel driven generator. Anyway such people probably use solid fuel (!) or LPG for cooking, heating and hot water and need to run the generator to do the washing or run larger handyman tools.

  Souvlaki – far from me to defend this government, but all of the allies were totally left high and dry when the Biden administration abruptly pulled out their troops and closed their bases and left behind all their equipment. Great Britain was left high and dry and are frantically trying to get out their people. Australia sent in their SAS to try and get out their people. Even American former Green Berets have tried to go in and get out Americans who have been left behind.
  
  I know from personal contacts that the New Zealand army is very concerned about the fate of Afghan interpreters and others who help them. What more can be done by New Zealand without the umbrella of American military might is unclear?
  
  In this case I would say the blood is on the hands of Joe Biden and his incompetent leaders and his incompetent military generals. Who pulls out the military people first? Who doesn’t inform their allies of what they are going to do? Who deliberately leaves behind millions of dollars of precious military equipment including Black Hawk helicopters that will now be used against them and also fall into the hands of their enemies. I am sure that China and Iran would like to look at the military equipment and reverse engineer it.
  
  Who relies on the Taliban to guarantee their security? Well the Americans did and 100 Afghans have died and 13 of their own troops.
  
  No, Joe Biden is at fault. He must be the weakest and most incompetent American president ever.

    Nope. There was plenty of evidence that the Taliban was advancing across Afghanistan and meeting little resistance at least two weeks before Kabul fell. Instead the Government, in particular Ardern, Mahuta, Henare and Faafoi had plenty of time to plan for the evacuation of New Zealanders and those aligned to us.
    
    But no, they sat on the hands, and as the Taliban reached Kabul Ardern didn’t see the need to convene an urgent Cabinet meeting to initiate a rescue mission. By the time Cabinet finally met, Kabul had fallen, and by the time the C130 finally headed off three days later, our response was too little, too late. The fate of those left behind rests fairly and squarely with the New Zealand Government.

‘The government allocated $62 billion for a COVID Response Fund. Did they spend this on contact tracing, testing capacity, and extra ICU capacity? That would have been sensible.
Instead, it was used as a slush fund. Here’s a list of some of the things the money went on.
Arts grants: $374,000,000 (e.g., $17 million for art therapy clinics)
Flood protection in the Far North: $12,500,000
Cameras on fishing boats: $26,600,000
“Regional digital connectivity”: $50,000,000
Horse racing: $52,500,000
“Public Interest” Journalism: $55,000,000
Internet modems for students: $87,000,000
Affordable housing projects: $100,000,000
“Transformative energy” projects: $155,000,000
Various large-scale construction projects: $180,000,000
Construction of one building at the University of Auckland: $200,000,000
“Climate resilience” projects: $210,000,000
School lunches: $515,800,000 (yes, half a billion dollars)
“Jobs for Nature”: $1,219,000,000’

I can now understand why the fund is so low and Robbo is looking to borrow more money.

Last night, the MoH had to hurriedly alter their website on COVID level restrictions. At Level 1, it stated:

“You can continue to attend events and gatherings after you have been vaccinated”.

This was removed after 8:30pm as a backlash ensued from the public, asking why Level 1 demanded these sorts of restrictions and what does that say about future intentions of the govt. Are they already planning COVID passports for daily life?

And it’s been screengrabbed MoH, by many,many people.

  Afghanistan. Yesterday HDPA interviewed Minister of Defence Peeni Henare about whether the Guardian report that none of the 38 who assisted New Zealand there, and who hold visas, have been airlifted. Minister Henare’s answer ”No that’s not true”.
  
  HDPA persisted and immediately Minster Henare started to walk that back, saying he didn’t yet know, but ”I’m confident we have”.
  
  Plus there have been hundreds of emails he said. Certainly did not sound like a Minister across his portfolio.
  
  Afghanistan is not called graveyard of empires for nothing. Not sure if being in charge of New Zealand’s Defence Force could be called an empire ….

  All of the allies were totally left high and dry when the Biden administration abruptly pulled out their troops and closed their bases and left behind all their equipment. Great Britain was left high and dry and are frantically trying to get out their people. Australia sent in their SAS to try and get out their people. Even American former Green Berets have tried to go in and get out Americans who have been left behind.
  
  I know from personal contacts that the New Zealand army is very concerned about the fate of Afghan interpreters and others who help them. What more can be done by New Zealand without the umbrella of American military might is unclear?
  
  The responsibility for this fiasco lies with Joe Biden and his incompetent leaders and his incompetent military generals. Who pulls out the military people first? Who doesn’t inform their allies of what they are going to do? Who deliberately leaves behind millions of dollars of precious military equipment including Black Hawk helicopters that will now be used against them and also fall into the hands of their enemies. I am sure that China and Iran would like to look at the military equipment and reverse engineer it.
  
  Who relies on the Taliban to guarantee their security? Well the Americans did and 100 Afghans have died and 13 of their own troops.
  
  Joe Biden is at fault. He must be the weakest and most incompetent American president ever.

        There is such a gulf between what the two sides top experts are saying, one side has to be knowingly lying. So which side most potentially has “an agenda”? Which side is being leveraged by the MSM, is always a warning sign. The use of coercion and fear on those who have specialist knowledge, like Doctors, should be unnecessary to protect actual truth.
        
        Besides being straight-out coerced, many of them have too much to lose if they were delicensed; the massive increase in mortgage and rental burdens has probably been something the elites have been rubbing their hands in glee about; and a classic coping strategy is to out blinkers on rather than look into things. Because then you can plead ignorance one day, and “just following orders”.

    What this article does not seem to mention is that this proposition, that the anti-body’s of a natural infection may better protect you than a vaccination, is that an obvious condition for this to be true, is that one needs to survive the initial natural full-on infection.
    A full vaccination is supposed to reduce the severity of the disease if you contract it, and presumably therefore heighten your chances (and particularly those of the elderly) of not dying from an pre-existing respiratory condition or other comorbidity, whereas an unprepared-for straight-on infection may do for you, rendering further fighting off any second infection as “academic” – in the sense of not of practical relevance, of only theoretical interest, or not even that – since the matter could be at a dead end.

      The case survival rate is 99.8% across the entire population, 99.95% for those aged less than 70, and 99.997% for children. The actual risk for an individual will be established by age, comorbidities, treatment protocol etc.
      
      Whether or vaccinated or not, the vast, vast majority of infections (where there are more infections than cases) result in a recovery. So there are lots of clinical research candidates. Have a read of the paper I linked below. There is more research appearing on this each week.
      
      A topic I’ve not found much on yet is the strength with with the immune system responds once vaccine-provided protection attenuates. Papers from 6 months ago mostly postulated that it would be business as usual, which would be optimum for public health.

    Thanks for posting. I mentioned a few days ago to Benedict that, based on general principles, natural immunity would be stronger than the vaccines. The paper seems to confirm that. However, my overall view, like Yvette above it seems, is that vaccines should still be used to reduce disease severity and death. The Government must get everyone that wants a vaccine to be able to have a vaccine by 30 September. After that, we have to allow COVID in and live with it. It won’t be easy, but it will be the best hybrid path out.

      The policy reshuffle has been signalled for months Brian. Collins has been doing performance appraisals of everyone in caucus, and has made a few changes. I’m delighted to see Barbara Kuriger elevated to Agriculture spokeswoman, and Joseph Mooney from Southland given rural communities. Barbara connected really well with local farmers when she and Ian McKelvie had a meeting here a few months ago; conversely, we didn’t see David Bennett last year at all.
      
      As for Bishop apparently being “demoted”, Collins called this week for Education to be taken off Hipkins because the workload of that and Covid was too much. She’s put her reshuffle where her mouth is, and given Bishop one sole focus. Given the amount of National policy on Covid Labour has appropriated and implemented, I think that’s an excellent move! Let’s not forget that Covid is the single most expensive event in New Zealand’s history, and as such, it deserves a Minister focused on nothing else.
      
      Ardern’s problem of course is that there’s such a void of talent in Labour’s ranks that she can’t just take Education of Hipkins without there being someone capable to taking it on.

      Before Delta there were already worrying variants in South Africa, UK, South America. Your post merely shows how naive and shortsighted Hipkins and co were. This is confirmed by the recent news that Panpac had tried to work with MBIE to create standards to enable certified businesses to work at Level 4, but MBIE didn’t believe we’d ever have another Level 4!
      
      Furthermore, supply isn’t the only issue. The way the entire vaccination system has been set up was destined to be slow even if we had supply. For example, one issue is how the MOH deemed GP practices incapable of delivering vaccines even though Foundation practices met 140/165 COVID vaccination standards (yes, 165 standards to deliver a jab!). These are the same practices that deliver a range of vaccinations, but all of sudden can’t deliver COVID vaccinations. Talk to the GP College about what they think about the MOH and the Government’s vaccine rollout.

  Stephen Tindall, Rob Fyfe, and Sam Morgan talked of making a ventilator developed by Christchurch anaesthetist John Hyndman and his friend Ivan Batistich.
  
  Earlier, we even had a Kiwiblog poster (was it CMM?) talking of organising engineering types to make ventilators.

    The rest of the world stopped talking about ventilators a year ago. Have our officials not read anything about this pandemic since around February 2020???? By late March it was understood that ventilator treatment itself was actually topping a high proportion of the patients

    It might have been me.
    
    I kicked off a ventilator project but was thwarted by lack of responses from the people that would need to allow us to import components etc. during a lockdown. I didn’t get any responses from MPs (including my own – Brownlie – leading to me making 2 yellow ticks in the 2020 election instead of my customary one yellow, one blue).
    
    I then canned the effort when:
    A) It was shown that ventilators were not helping and were, in fact being over used and often killing more than they cured.
    B) NZ already had a massive ventilator order (few million bucks) in place. I don’t know if those have arrived yet – should have since that was well over a year ago.

This is some musing on a potential reaction from Mike Hosking on the laughable proposition that our PM has discovered a cure for cancer.

Our PM can’t cure Child Poverty, Housing Hyperinflation or in fact any of the other things she has highlighted at all.

If she cured cancer, I’m sure that Hosking would share my view that it’s a miracle that she has managed to achieve anything at all!

      I have many criticisms for the MOH and the Government. But my experience is that they have tried very hard to prioritise Maori and Pasifika. I have seen, first hand, clinics in South Auckland dedicated early in the vaccination rollout to target these demographics via booking or walk-in. Some people have turned up and good on them. Others haven’t. Many have likened their early delivery to being guinea pigs before Pakeha get it. Now they’re complaining they’re running behind. You can’t have it both ways. At some point, these groups need to take personal responsibility.
      
      1 more thing from personal experience: the Samoan and Tongan communities, at least, are extremely well connected on social media as a means to stay in touch with their vast diaspora. This idea that they don’t know how to read text messages is demeaning. The real issue is vaccine hesitancy. One famous Pasifika doctor recently lamented that people always contact him when they have a minor headache, but now there’s COVID they’re contacting the Church Minister on what on do…

        Once Jacinda Ardern demonstrated to Dame Patsy that she enjoyed the confidence of parliament, she (Dame Patsy) was obliged to swear in the Labour-led government. Had she taken it upon herself to act politically, i.e., outside her remit, and declined to do so, a “constitutional crisis” would have ensued.
        
        There are a number of examples in Europe over the last one hundred or more years (under various PR/List electoral systems) where the [prime minister] has been provided by a party that did not receive the most votes — a recent example being in Sweden (although it was very close); the Reinfeldt (Moderate Party) government following the 2010 election.
        
        Besides, if Winston Peters had set aside his anger with National / had swallowed his pride, how long do you think that (unstable) government would have lasted? There would have been an early / snap election in 2018 or 2019, for sure, with Labour sweeping to power.

    ‘The Auditor-General acts as a watchdog over the government’s and councils’ spending. To do that it must be independent, so the Auditor-General reports to the whole of Parliament and not to the Government. Our independence from the Government of the day is protected by law.’
    Not sure how they view the spending detailed above as appropriate, but at least it is in the public domain. The rest is up to voters.

      The problem is the PM and team appear to be delinquent. The Courts will not intervene. The GG could on the grounds that HM Executive Council have trashed their oath of office of loyalty to HM. I don’t expect for one moment the Queen would approve the decisions bout expenditure outside the authority of the Parliament. To be loyal their standard of conduct must meet HM’s. Muslim prayer in Parliament would disqualify too. The PM does not own the show. Even her tiki is low grade-an insult really to Maori.
      
      The Auditor General may be able to prevent certain expenditure outside the Vote but that would be a dog fight in the making.

      That’s not quite right Benedict. Dame Whina Cooper of Te Rārawa led a protest march to Parliament whereby she was successful in gaining 40,000 Hectares of land in the Hokianga under the guise of Maori Land Rights.
      A Kids protest to Parliament was also the trigger Cindy needed to close down the Oil and Gas industries in NZ.
      Unions have also had numerous successes throughout NZ history via protest movements and marches.
      
      The downtick is not mine Benedict.

The health sector is being incredibly poorly run and is ill prepared for handling a pandemic – even though they’ve now had 20 months notice.

Primarily basic stuff:
* Staff shortages.
* Training on, and fitting of masks.
* Procurement of PPE.
* Ensuring they have the right ancillary equipment (syringes with the correct needles).
* Procurement of vaccines.
* A useless contact tracing system.

Yet we’re told everything is “gold standard” etc so their spin is pretty good.

None of these are really medical problems requiring medical skills. They are logistical problems. A competent factory manager could get this right.

Yet who do we have running it?
* A minister with no clue at all and has the anti-Midas touch.
* An associate minister who has medical training but is now an activist and has no recent contact with patients (but still remembers how to pose with a stethoscope for credibility).

The more worrying thing is that they’re proposing even more centralization and even more input by activists and troughers with the Maorification.

I think it’s a case of: If you think this is bad, wait for a pandemic response in 1930s.

People NEED contact otherwise they will literally become “immuno compromised”. If the government succeed in beating this outbreak of Covid, I suspect they will double down.

The government will try to hold the fortress until the next election. Even Oz will be endemic by this point, so little Aotearoans will be alone on their isolated island, patiently hiding under their beds.

Of course, our economy will be in free fall – we will be racing towards Third World status. Socialists are weird because they never consider consequences, such as what will happen to the economy.

We in NZ cannot survive our current Govt’s incompetence. Life as we knew it is fast vanishing and it’s not due to Covid alone.

Our household is quite old-fashioned in some ways, and so yes we watch the 6 pm news – namely, One News. But I find that I’m watching it less and less these days, because it is not meeting my needs to be informed clearly.

Last night I tried to follow it, but I’m afraid I just tuned out after about 10 to 15 minutes. Simon Dallow, bless him, just went overboard on using Maori words which I don’t understand. And yes, Batman, I could follow your previous advice, “You could just look them up”. Unfortunately, by the time I’ve done that I’ve lost a couple of minutes, they’ve moved onto the next story and I’ve lost the thread of what they were talking about anyway.

Put simply, I cannot fully follow the story and gain the full context of what they are saying when I don’t understand some of the words, and have to take a moment to process others when the Maori and English versions are run together as one. I hear “Live from ParemataParliament …” and I have a momentary confusion as I have to process that. No idea how older people cope.

If One News want to continue throwing in random Maori words, fine. If it makes some people happy then good for them, and I hope the people who find such things important will reward them by actually watching the news. But I’m afraid my purpose in watching the news is to keep up on the important issues of the day, and if One News is not going to serve that purpose then I’ll have to find another source that does. It’s not as if we’re starved for choice.

  I haven’t watched the news for many years, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say, no offence to you, that the only thing One, Three and Prime News are good for is dispensing sugarcoated commentary dressed up as actual reporting for the large class of Kiwis who still believe in the notion of My Country Right or Wrong.
  
  But it’s a habit for many, and I suspect mostly for those of an older age group, timed to coincide with the post-tea dishwasher cycle.

  I honestly have no problem with this if it’s what the people want. I’d struggle as I frequently mangle spoken english, but if it’s what a majority want, no issues for me. I just find the increasing use of Maori ridiculous as it doesn’t seem to be filling an expressed need of the people – it seems to be a champagne socialist elite that’s driving this, and usually for their own advancement.
  
  A good example I know is an actual CE of a council in the north island – won’t mention the location. Worked for the guy several years back – very much a centre-right type. After a few years as council CE, everything he spouts has a Maori spin. Here’s the rub – I thought he’d changed. Met him recently after a few years and turns out that he’s the same centre-right individual. He just plays the part because this is how he gets ahead – he admitted as much. He know’s its all a load of crap, it’s just what’s expected of him! He’s just playing the part.
  
  I suspect the same thing happens with a few in the media – they just go along with it because they know what will happen to their careers if they don’t!

Anthony Fauci stated in an interview that PCR testing at or above 35 cycles gives unreplicatable results. In other words, the results cannot be used to confirm or denie covid19 infection as the amplification gives random results.

In a written statement by the NZ Ministry of Health, the ministry states the NZ PCR cycle standard is 40 cycles for testing.

So since Fauci says anything above 35 is unreplicatable, the NZ “case” numbers are meaningless using the current system of testing.

Scanning the papers I note they’re spinning the release to L3 as a positive . I suspect a lot of people especially in the SI see it differently .

I see too there’s an opinion piece in the Ferald by Shane Te Pou using a boxing analogy for this thing , and very strongly pro this regimes’ strategy of lock down eliminade.

No mention by the paper of his affiliations.

His final sentence is ” That’s how we’ll succeed , not by throwing in the towel as we enter the final round”

The final round is a long long way off yet .
That’s why the Swedes were right all along , they said this is a long term thing.

Anyway when we do reopen , in a year or three , this thing will still kill hundreds of sick , elderly and vulnerable , vaxxed or unvaxxed and still overwhelm the hospital system.

This shouldn’t be seen as a boxing match , it’s really a marathon , which has only just started .But our leaders have sprinted , instead of pacing themselves .

    It says that they provide less than ideal cover, but were all that was available at such short notice.
    
    As long as the development of significantly better vaccines proceeds at speed, this was a pretty reasonable tactic to address the initial waves of the disease. Sensible strategies would be looking to transition to improved versions as soon as they can.

The enthusiasm for them is rooted in class-driven enthusiasm for control over the deplorables, whom the elites fear more every day. Power to silence, fire, deplatform, probably de-bank eventually.     I can’t help but realise that the data and science on vaccines doesn’t ever match the narrative we are being told to believe. Example: narrative: vaccine is 98% effective.
    Data: Israel: most vaccinated country on earth – record deaths last week.
    
    It makes me suspect that the plan the entire time is for sheep like people to take the vaccine, and for free thinkers to not take the vaccine. Why else would the data not match the narrative?
    
    Is the plan to sterilise or reduce the sheeple population, who are a drain on society? Especially with AI on the horizon?
    
    Or is the plan to dehumanise free thinkers, remove their human rights and influence and have total communist control?

I wanted to award one of the Stuff journalists the Labour Lickspittle of the Year Award, but there are so many deserving recipients, its a huge challenge to get it right. I’m a huge fan of watching cringing, kowtowing, ingratiating behaviour. Our glorious media keeps me satiated in the “beautiful game” of sycophant watching.

The government has paid this lot $55 million.

Who, then, has been the best value for government money, in terms of propaganda value?

Here are my top three so far:

Henry Cooke – has another level of snivelling flattery to most other contenders, but this young gun has enormous potential to improve his obsequiousness with practice. One for the future.

Master Luke Malpass – This quisling has elevated brownnosing into an art form. His consistency in delivering ingratiating fawning is noted by fans as special. Some of his slavish toadying moves have been so extreme as to become legend in the spineless hack watching community. Could be this years winner.

Chairperson Alison Mao – look, I don’t want to put words into this ladies mouth. Let’s read her application:

“They play all the old hits; you know the prime minister will talk about us, the team of five million, and kindness, and it will take her close to/more than eight minutes to announce any change in alert levels. Dr Ashley will be calm and steady and use the phrase “what I can tell you” more than once. There will be deeply furrowed brows from both.
Some don’t find these updates as strangely comforting as I do.”

It is a masterpiece in fawning, deferential and unctuous speak.

I suppose the only issue with Chairperson Mao is sometimes she goes of message, into the realm of man hating diatribes, which distract from her brownnosing the government responsibilities.

From the following page we see that there were 400,000 doses at the end of the week before last (22 Aug)

We also see that there were 300,000+ doses administered in the week before lockdown and c280,000 to the end of last week. A week that included a 24hr vaccination suspension and also not all vaccination stations reopened immediately

TL:DR If we went into last week with 400k vaccines left and last week set record vaccination numbers (as seems likely) and we have no substantial vaccine deliveries due until October our rollout is f*cked and we’re likely to be locked down until November at the earliest

Unsurprising that the govt is pinning its hopes on an elimination strategy

So I’m in Pak’nSave yesterday. At the checkout the operator, a middle-aged, south-east Asian lady politely asked me to step back and stand behind the line on the floor. I apologised and complied. She apologised also and remarked that they now have so many rules to follow. She went on to say that it’s like we are living under the Nazis.

Could it be that the leader of the team of five million is losing the changing room? One can hope.

I was visiting my 78 yo sister when lockdown happened.
I have stayed
a) she lives by herself
b) she has early onset dementia
c) House cleaner can not come
d) Lawn/garden guys can come
e) Her offspring cant visit (they were regular visitors)
f) She is totally over the lady with teeth 🙂
g) Like most elderly ladies I know. She “”has”” to watch the news.
h) Keeps worrying about getting milk, bread etc
as nobody to take her>

So I am chauffer, house cleaner, gardener, visitor until this shemozzle is over.

How many others are suffering like my sister??

  In my local circle we have concerns for a friend who is showing memory loss and is recovering from a nasty fall.
  She lives alone, but a few of my ancient mates burst their bubble each day to call in and spend a bit of their day with her.
  
  Another mate has her rather immobile (stroke victim) hubby to cope with at home with no respite.
  She can only leave him for the brief few minutes it takes to walk the dog around the block.
  
  I find it very interesting that a lefty troll on this blog thinks all that is happening is that we are being asked to stay home.

  According to Oz mortality statistics. (Jan 2021 – May 2021) Dementia is the largest increase in serious health issues affecting mortality. 17% higher than the 2015-2019 avg. Cancer 6% higher.
  While deaths due to Pneumonia were 15% lower than 2015-2019 average. And chronic lower respitory was only 3.5% higher.
  
  So the biggest change seems to be on dementia. Yet the only health focus seems to be on covid and vaccination. I wonder if lockdown and the constant fear campaign in the media is affecting mental health particularly of our elderly. And our cancer stats.
  
  So keep up the good work your sister is lucky to have someone like you in her life

  And when the MoH media release finally came out at 1.20pm (seriously, is it THAT difficult to be on time?), there were 82 new cases.
  
  Of more concern however is that there are now 23 people in hospital, including one in Wellington, and two people in ICU. I’m pretty sure with the Sydney Delta outbreak, there was a 10-14 day lag before the number of hospitalisations started to ramp up. That doesn’t bode especially well. A doctor friend tweeted last night that she was absolutely exhausted last night after spending the day caring for a Covid patient in one of the Auckland hospitals (I won’t say which one) and that even cases in general wards require a more intensive level of care.

    Tony, National need to hammer the govt and Ashley Bloomers on whether budesonide and sotrovimab feature as part of their therapy plans (see my reply to Maggy W down below). Both those drugs work, budesonide is cheap and easy. Aussie is using sotrovimab, here…….crickets.

    That’s the downside of not using any therapeutics to treat people known to have been exposed. Hitting them hard and early with all the stuff shown to have been effective in myriad trials over last year could spare between 50 and 90% of them from severe covid. Much of it is over-the-counter too.

I see at least some of the New Zealanders (actually, Afghani citizens who have achieved NZ PR, an important distinction glossed over the MSM) stuck in Kabul had recently travelled there for family reasons.

I thought that we are all discouraged from unnecessary international travel in these COVID times. I support the right of the individual to make their own decisions in a matter of this type, but they need to accept the dangers that go with it. It’s not for the NZDF to put their lives at risk in consequence.

09:50am – Associate Health Minister Aupito William Sio told Newshub Nation he expects another rise in numbers today.

“As expected, there will be an increase in numbers today. I’ve not yet heard any reports that we’ve yet peaked. So the officials will work through to confirm those numbers and it will be announced later.”

“The numbers will be increasing as we expected. You’ll get that, the nation will receive that briefing at 1pm. I haven’t seen any reports to indicate that [the outbreak has peaked].”

I’m confused – the PM swears black and blue that the numbers get announced at 1pm, period. So what can this be other than conditioning us? I can only assume Sio when referring to “reports” means advice they are receiving from MoH?

        Hi Maggy. We all need to keep in mind that declaring people as “infected” is based on an imperfect test. The PCR test. MOH says the standard for declaring an infection is a CT of 40. Even Fauci admits anything over 35 can give a positive or negative result. Test the same sample again and you get a different result. The PCR test also fails to differentiate between active infection and past infection.
        
        All the media stories, government spin, lockdowns, endless opinion pieces use an unreliable test from which every decision is made.
        
        We are using unreliable data, amplifying it through media and policy to the detremenent of all.
        
        Yes people can get sick and occasionally die from a Covid19 infection but the majority have no symptoms what so ever.
        
        If we let fear trump reason we are lost.

My partner was talking to a friend of his earlier who contracts as a Process Server to the courts. Has done for years. Very lucrative occupation by all accounts. Drives the latest Bentley. Has about 30 part-timers that he calls on when needed….and he was saying they’ve never been busier!
In the last month alone they handled over 500 summonses, the vast majority for the Banks. One in particular accounted for more than 60% of the Demands.

  Note that process servers do not work for the courts (perhaps the odd exception) but generally work for lawyers who need to have papers served on behalf of their clients. The courts want independent evidence that such papers have been successfully served and make a statutory declaration to that effect (it has to before a JP or lawyer not involved in the case).
  Judith Collins sued Trevor Mallard several years ago and Trevor tried to play hard to get but a process server successfully flushed him out.

    peter, you are mostly correct but most affidavits are handled by the district court office. Lawyers are generally unavailable or reluctant to handle sworn affidavits. What does peaked in relation to covid cases mean in the first place?

Why does our PM or Ashley Bloomfield never use that word “peaked” when referring to covid deaths or ICU cases?

Higher numbers of covid cases compared to a previous day doesn’t mean something serious.

Example: More cases of road accidents in a week compared to a previous week does not mean more people are dying on our roads.

  I’d say the fair definition of “peaked” would be when the number of current cases stops rising. ie. we’ve got to the point where more people are getting better than getting sick, so our hospitals etc are over the worst.
  
  Half marks for no longer being exponential. In other words, the number of new cases from one day to the next is decreasing. With some elapsed time that will lead to the number of current cases dropping.
  
  But when the number of new cases is still increasing on a daily basis we’re still exponential.
  
  In a small country like NZ we need to be very careful how we look at numbers. Small numbers make for a lot of noise. One day with numbers less than the previous day could just be natural variance. It needs a bit longer to make any definitive statement.
  
  That is what made the earlier statements by Hendy so irresponsible. He should have just said “we don’t know”, then shut up. Instead, he opened his mouth, frightened a lot of people and made an arse of himself too.

Basically, they are pushing a socialist ideology, irrespective of what the science says.

They are all climate fanatics. They want to see everyone digging the fields with their bare hands.

After the Elimination Fantasy is abandoned or it collapses, they all need to be fired.

  Exactly right. Anyone with the most basic understanding of biology knew:
  1) There was never going to just be one wave.
  2) Dodging a wave just makes the next one bigger.
  
  In virus evolution, future sucessful strains tend to be more infectious (ie. better at replicating), but also tend to to be less deadly.
  
  Note: I said successful strains. There would have been million of other mutations which were less infectious and thus died out quickly without replicating.
  
  This all comes down to the fitness function. The fittest virus is one that spreads well (ie. making more of itself) while not compromising its life support systems (ie. people to infect). Kill people is bad business for a virus.

    The Swedes ensured that the Alpha version of Ro passed nice and slowly through their entire population, so their ICU’s were never overwhelmed.
    
    I think that there is good chance that our hospitals are going to be overwhelmed.
    
    What is incredible is that over the past 18 months the government has spent a stimulus package of over 50% of GDP – and actually managed to reduce the number of available ICU’s.
    
    I can’t help wondering how it is possible to be this incompetent?
    
    No wonder they want to kick the can down the road for as long as they can.
    
    I’ve got this horrible feeling that when this virus is finally endemic in NZ, it will have caused more health damage to us, than most other countries in the world. This is partly because our government has been so smug (little dance et al). Also, our population is in a terribly unhealthy state.
    
    I actually think that we will also have end up having the worst economic impact of the virus in the world. Everyone else is finished, and we are just starting. Dragging it out like this is economically ruinous.
    
    Finally, when the dust has settled, we’ll have suffered the worst impact on our freedoms in the world. Our lockdowns have been the most strict.
    
    Overall, our handling of this crisis couldn’t have been worse.

  Agree the whole “expert” narrative has been carefully captured by the risk averse, controlling left. Why have people like Des Gorman been sidelined? And why have economists been completely kicked to touch? Honestly it seems to me that Hendy, Skegg and Baker are myopic and out to lunch. Anyone who attempts to run a cost benefit argument or to quantify the economic cost is written off as a covid denier and non believer. The complete absence of an economic debate is a disgrace and reflects government control and the acquiescence and ignorance of the msm.

  Yep. Hands up those that think that pushing everyone through only a few supermarkets and therefore even longer queues will stop the spread.
  Next will be a further crackdown on outdoor exercise, notwithstanding that fresh air and sunlight are prophylactic.
  This is starting to look like desperation.
  Personally, having been vaxxed, a mild breakthrough infection could be just what I need to boost long term immunity. But the planned slow vax rollout means that a great many who want the shots haven’t even had one dose yet.

  The info today didn’t seem to say what these cases were. Mainly household infections? Any mystery cases?

It is stupid for whole country to use just one government approved and selected vaccine when there are multiple effective vaccines available. This creates a single point of failure. It would have been a much better strategy to use a variety of vaccines so that if some variant gets around one the whole population is not vulnerable.

Finally, the MSM reports someone who understands what is happening with the increasing covid-numbers

Covid-19 modeller Rodney Jones, economist and data expert from Wigram Capital Advisors, said he did not see why we would expect fewer cases in the coming days.

“We are still in the midst of a classic Delta outbreak, [one which is] unfolding faster than in Australian states,” he said.

You hope the curve will flatten, but so far we haven’t had one day of lower cases. Each day has brought more.”

Based on Jones’ firm’s modelling while the R value is now below 2, it remains “well above” 1.

He said the rate of transmission, from 11 new cases on the 21st to 82 on the 28th was exponential.
