Note how all the latest fear stories being put out are about how dangerously infectious Omicron is and how we might have to shut everything down again. There is no mention of how many people it has hospitalised, let alone killed. Nor is there mention of how the vaccines seem to have little effectiveness against it.
The worrying thing is that people are being suckered in by this scare campaign, All those second rate epidemiologists and celebrity “scientists” are relishing in their pronouncements about it becoming the end of the world. The decision makers are terrified that someone will look behind the curtain. Brendan O’Neill summed it up very well.

PS – I am glad to see DPF appears to be a regular reader of Spiked. They are way ahead of anything else on the free speech and freedom issues. Not bad for something put out by a slf-described Tory Marxist.

  To be honest Jacinda will be scared. All the evidence points to two doses of Pfizer being pretty useless against Omicron. If you were immunised a few months ago you have 30 percent protection compared to an unvaccinated person.
  
  Given its contagion level, without lock downs it will race through New Zealand. It will leave the traffic light system and vaccine passes in tatters. The whole system she has set up in the last 3 months will be useless.
  
  So she can either let it happen, or close the borders and go back to lockdowns.

      Err, weren’t the first two doses supposed to do that? Or do you believe that three is your lucky number.
      
      Chuck, bear in mind:
      * The vaccine seems ineffective (or at best has an extremely reduced effect) against Omicron after a short period (couple of months or so).
      * For the first week or two after getting vaccinated your immunity actually goes down, so you’re trading a period of reduced protection for a period of slightly improved protection.
      * In a few months Pfizer will be selling their new improved Omicron recipe. Do you intend to then line up for a fourth jab?
      
      It’s increasingly looking like the current vaccine is a “feel good” measure for Omicron. If it makes you feel safer, go for it.

        Another surprise for you might be that petrol engines don’t run on diesel even though you can buy both at the same service station.

        Nowhere did I say there was an issue with being vaccinated for Delta, but that was the old variant. You can’t get vaccinated now to improve your chances 6 months ago.
        
        Getting vaccinated for Delta is pretty much obsolete. If you’re forward looking (ie. for when the protection of a booster might kick in), then you’re looking at Omicron.
        
        For that, the vaccination seems rather ineffective.
        
        But, Brian, thanks – it is always interesting to get the viewpoint of someone who’s brain is wired completely differently from normal.

    What they could do is promote general health, get everyone’s zinc and Vit D levels up into optimal range for fighting off covid – cheap and effective and seems to eliminate most hospitalisations, and can get whole population up to ideal levels in a few weeks.

  That’s why we’re seeing massive Omicron over-hype. They know that Omicron is the beginning of the end.
  
  Much is being made of the South African statistic that more Omicron positive children are in hospital, but that does not mean that the Omicron is putting them in hospital. Indeed, a closer look the stats indicate otherwise – they are there for other reasons and are coincidentally Omicron positive. We can tell that from looking at things like the oxygenation rates.
  
  But many public health people who know this are all in on the power rush and will be jabbing the kids – with an obsolete and generally ineffective – vaccine.
  
  What is criminal, IMHO, is that the very people who are supposed to be providing ALL the information are cherry picking it for fear porn that fits their career agendas.
  
  Worse yet, by suppressing information like the importance of Vit D and Zinc they are leading to worse health outcomes for the population – particularly Maori who are supposed to get extra care.
  
  They are achieving exactly the opposite of what they are employed to do.

A non event really. So figure this out. The Australian Cricket captain who of course is vaccinated, is banned from participating in a test match, a huge test match. Not because he has COVID. Because someone in an Adelaide restaurant has COVID. And he had a meal in that restaurant. Now he has had to charter a plane to get home to Sydney.

  And if you do get sick and test positive, what kind of treatment do you think you’ll get? Go home and take an aspirin? Lie in a hospital bed and wait and see if they’ll eventually need to put you on a ventilator?
  
  Better off staying home, and treating yourself with one of the various and proven treatment protocols available that medical establishments and especially politicians are not allowed to admit exists.

  I note in the UK case numbers are sky rocketing.
  From what I read this new variation, omicron, caused no symptoms in a good percentage of those afflicted.
  Logically therefore if only obviously sick people are being tested it must be far more widespread that the numbers indicate.
  I don’t know & I don’t know if anybody knows yet, but even if most people who catch the bug are not particularly crook one would suspect a good few a still going to be knocked around.

  Whatever you do don’t get a rapid antigen test. I was informed by a nurse at Greenlane that they are 49% accurate. Terrible way to be compelled to self isolate along with friends and family and casual contacts.
  As for the PCR, make sure you find out what ct they are using. Anything over 28 is worse than useless. So Dr Fauci said. Last I heard was NZ is running them at 40 cycles.

      Did you get upset by the RSV deaths (some of which were caused by RSV, some comorbidities)?

    The child was only tested for Covid after death, because it had been in contact with someone who tested positive. So clearly there was nothing prior to death that indicated any sign of the virus.
    In the UK, the chances of a child dying from Covid are about one in two million, whereas in NZ, under 5 child mortality rates are about 4.5 per 1000. So it is likely the child died from something completely unrelated, whether it be a pre-existing illness, an accident in the playground or something that happened at home.
    Concealing the true reasons for death is just fuelling the fear under the pretence of privacy. Privacy, like all rights, is subject to justified limitations, and surely the public’s right not to be wrongly frightened is one of those limitations.

I intended this comment to go with the 7am David Farrar post of The shameful silence on the Waukesha massacre, but by the time I have tapped it out, kiwibloggers may have moved past that, so I put it here in Genera Debate –

Utterly simplistically there seems to be two crimes – that Darrell Brooks did what he did and then people, who know, not saying why he did it.

But is it not echoed in New Zealand here, in the Christchurch Mosques Massacres, heinously perpetrated by not an SUV, but an unnamed gunman and generally attributed to Islamiphobia and his being a “white supremest”, dismissing his own label as an “ecco-terrorist”, but in fact his slaying was exacted because the victims are an example of supposed fertile “invaders” who if given a chance would oust a European way of life [Care is preserving a way of life for generations] – as recorded by the unnamed gunman himself.

Surely, just as “… there are things we already know about Mr Brooks that make the silence of the woke elites even more curious, and shameful …” is it not more a sin of omission. to after no trial but a Royal Commission of Inquiry, for there clear reason and explanation of Tarrant’s actions to be no publicised, but to mis-direct his intent?

So “another crime here” is not only not acknowledging the real motivation (although, not only absolutely and utterly wrong in original intent, but also fatally – literally and figuratively – wrong in choice of New Zealand as venue).

      Pretty obviously the child was not showing any symptoms of Covid on admission to hospital or it would have been tested prior to death. That is logic, not speculation. Statistically, it is far more likely to have died from an accident or some other extraneous cause, or because of a pre-existing condition than from Covid. That too is logic, not speculation.

Her twisting of facts and data to suit her political narrative has made a whole generation now highly suspicious of once respected institutions. It is a mistrust that will take many years to win back. I have lost all faith in the medical system. I have completely lost what little trust I had in government and media. I will spend what is left of my life communicating this mistrust to anyone prepared to listen. I have lost friends and been distanced from family. My contempt for this government and Ardern in particular is on a scale I did not think was possible. I am horrified at what I have witnessed over the last 2 years.

  It was common until 1950s or so in the West (until antibiotics became readily available) and is still fairly common in Africa.
  
  I spent a lot of time in rural areas in South Africa in the 1970s and early 1980s (we had a holiday cottage/shack on the Transkei coast). We’d often see a mother with a baby and hear 6 months later that the baby had died. But don’t worry, there’s another one on the way (points to her growing belly).

The resolution on “Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices” that contribute to racism, xenophobia and intolerance was adopted with 130 votes in favor, the Russian permanent mission to the UN announced on Thursday. Moscow has submitted the motion annually, in recent years, and Washington and Kiev have consistently opposed.
The resolution also urges member states to “eliminate all forms of racial discrimination by all appropriate means, including legislation,” and states that discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion or belief such as “neo-Nazism, Islamophobia, Christianophobia and antisemitism” harms not just the targeted groups but the society in general. “

It warms the cockles of my heart to see people attacking the issue with actual data.

What will bring this down in the end is the combined weight of all the contradictions we have been asked to blindly accept.

When even the staunchest kool-aid-intoxicated boy-scout (but mostly Girl-Guide) will have to begrudgingly admit that the arguments are hollow, it will crash, and some opportunistic political emergent will jump on the emerging movement to throw a torch on the whole rotten thing.

The clock’s ticking, Wellington.

    Albert – I did a quick search and Pfzier acknowledge that 2 shots is very limited protection against Omicron. The same report said 3 shots push back up to a 70% protection but didn’t say for how long. (It was a CNN report so I take it with a grain of salt as it will be a thinly re-written pharma press release but what the hey)
    
    Do your own research and post the counter factuals – stop with the demanding of ”show your proof” all the time. its really tiresome and adds zero to the discussion.

I struggle with the data but if the conclusion is correct then it may well be that it is the vaccine that is driving the omicron surge and it will impact the vaccinated worst. Something that was predicted by a number of experts many months ago – they advised you should never vaccinate during a pandemic.

On Omicron hype…

Firstly, I am no expert on viruses – I’m sure you’re shocked to hear that – but I thought I’d do a little looking at the numbers

Again, this variant may go in any direction, it may be mild or it may be worse

But what I want to address is the misuse of numbers by both the UK and NZ media

Currently we are being bombarded with case numbers, we’ve moved on from deaths – maybe because there weren’t actually enough of them to terrify us

Anyway, I looked at a couple of dates to see what this massive increases in cases was all about. The dates were Nov 27 (pre Omicron) and Dec 13 (Omicron)

And yes the numbers testing positive had increased massively – from 33,000 in Nov to 77,000 in Dec – more than doubling

However the number that our (and the UK) media fails to tell us is how many tests were performed. And that figure has grown from 725,000 in Nov to 1.3m in Dec

Looking at the percentages makes more sense and to save you the job I’ve done it

Positives as a percentage of tests were 4.5% in Nov and 5.9% in Dec

So despite the “exponential increase” that we’ve been told has ALREADY happened with Omicron the numbers show a 25% increase

Why oxygenation rates matter.

Very few health organisations are keeping stats as to why SARS-COV-2 positive patients are in hospital. Since they could easily gather this important data, this can only be deliberate suppression of information.

But many do still leak out some information by releasing oxygenation stats.

Why would a person be admitted to hospital for CV19 (rather than just spending a couple of days in bed at home)? Because they can’t breath properly in which case they will be getting oxygen.

So when we see the number of SARS-COV-2 positive patients go UP, but the oxygenation rate goes DOWN we know that the patients are not there because of CV19. They are in hospital for other reasons (broken legs, bullet holes and having babies etc) and incidentally have tested positive for the virus.

Also bear in mind that people also get oxygen for other reasons. For example I got oxygen when I had afib. Many of the SARS-COV-2 positive patients receiving oxygen are not getting it because of CV19.

Rinse and repeat for ICU numbers.

    If we’re going to be nit-picky then oxygen usage is a dumb term: we’re all using oxygen all the time.
    
    The usage of oxygenation varies. In some areas oxygenation is another way of saying the patient is getting supplemental oxygen.

      You are continually using the term to the note the quantity of oxygen that a hospital is using to supplement inspired oxygen in sick patients to achieve adequate oxygenation. It is the wrong usage. It’s not nit picking and it’s not an argument.

Original Antigenic Sin: the Downside of Immunological Memory and Implications for COVID-19

A definition –
The concept of original antigenic sin (OAS) was put forth many years ago to explain how humoral [relating to the body fluids, especially with regard to immune responses involving antibodies in such fluids as distinct from cells] memory responses generated against one set of antigens can affect the nature of antibody responses elicited to challenge infections or vaccinations containing a similar but not identical array of antigens.

Some clarification –
The speed and specificity of immunological memory are the basis of long-term, acquired immunity and of vaccinology. The power of memory, however, comes at a price. The cost? A memory response triggered to a similar but not identical array of antigens (for example, a new exposure to a related but antigenically distant pathogen) can potentially be less effective than a response elicited in the absence of memory. This is possible because memory B cells producing antibodies of high affinity and specificity established following a primary exposure to one subset of antigens can prevent or significantly dampen responses by naive B cells to new antigens if they are part of a profile that includes antigens present during the primary exposure.

What I understand from this is that vaccination against Alpha Covid, as appears to have been what is available in New Zealand, narrows the response down to that variant and lessens the fullest response to a mutation like Omicron.
I welcome of course, any correction.

But nowhere that I am aware, has Government explained this.
In fact nowhere, like still-hanging on “mainstream” television (at least that which is State owned) does Government (as the “crown” should be duty bound to do) offer even a basic explanation of how the vaccine works, so any decision – to vaccinate, or not – is better informed.

Instead we are told “you need two shots to do the deed”, and “two shots for skinny dipping”, neither of which can I quite fathom, nor now do I wish to do … I think … may be the first, albeit rather slowly, but not the second

Footnote: If this whole pandemic were a scenario for a Hollylwood block-buster disaster movie, would not an incredible turning point be when Aussie actress Rose Byrne, who was set to play Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in a film about the week following the 15 March Christchurch mosque attacks, realises those eligible, just reaching 90 percent of their 4.2 million number, have been injected with a vaccine perhaps limiting, via original antigenic sin (OAS), their ability to respond to Omicron – should she in BREAKING NEWS tell the populace or somehow kick this can “down the road (map)”

I remember when

Does ‘Marine Heatwave’ off North Island West Coast mean early start to Taranaki game fishing season.
Reports that kingfish were already being caught in late November.
Anglers don’t expect to see schools of kingfish or kahawai until mid-December.
Kahawai usually followed by albacore and skipjack tuna and shortly after marlin.
Although marlin usually appear in second or third week of January they are expectd to be earlier this season.
A holiday option.

Back in January, NZ was noting a desperate shortage of truck drivers, and there was talk of a campaign to recruit more. What’s happening now?

It’s a problem everywhere. The United States has just announced it will jump-start driver apprenticehsip programmes and make it quicker and easier for drivers to get on the road.

The Transportation and Labor departments will examine how drivers are paid—and investigate truck-leasing, which Administration officials say preys on drivers.

The federation of American Trucking Associations says the United States is 80,000 drivers short.

An age restriction of 21 for driving “big rigs” across state borders will be reduced to as low as 18 for qualified drivers.

This came to me by email from a friend. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – Cam Slater , the BFD.
The latter part he really pokes the borax at Jaspinda, and rightly so. Sorry it is long, but that is how it came to me.

Over the years I have met, had lunch, dinner, drinks, or meetings with a vast number of politicians. Some were great, most were average, but none, with one exception, were evil.

I grew up in a political family. We had cabinet ministers and prime ministers over for dinner. My mother never really liked most of them, and I got my healthy distrust of politicians from her.

I remember one night her telling Aussie Malcolm chapter and verse why he was going to be unemployed after the next election…and she was right, he was.

I remember the night Jim Bolger was sitting in front of Mum’s grand piano, sipping a scotch, while Winston Peters was regaling others with stories while he stretched his arm across the mantlepiece, a fag in one hand and a Scotch in the other, warming his backside by the fire. Bolger was telling me, and a couple of others who were there, all about how Jim McLay was a really nice guy, but sadly nice guys finish last. Two weeks later Jim Bolger was knifing McLay to become the leader of the opposition, and then Prime Minister. Jim Bolger was even invited to my wedding, and I’ve still got the letter he wrote back then.

It was my father who was asked, by the cowards in caucus, to meet Jim Bolger at the airport to tell him there had been a coup while he was overseas, and that when he got back to Wellington the numbers had been done and Jenny Shipley was going to replace him.

I remember Jenny Shipley coming to my sister’s birthday dinner at a restaurant in Newmarket. I can remember Maurice Williamson leaping on stage and grabbing an electric guitar to play at my sister’s 21st.

I once went to Maurice’s house in Epsom to spend a long afternoon playing loads of Deep Purple, The Who and other great music at volumes that left us both deaf. So much so we never heard the neighbours pounding on the door.

I can remember my grandmother telling assorted ministers visiting us at the beach house her ideas on health care and hospitals, and those being implemented.

I can fondly remember the smell of cigar smoke wafting down the hallway of Vogel House to my room from the lounge where Doug Graham was reading the newspaper at six in the morning.

I was in the whip’s office and helped draft the caucus resolution that threw Winston Peters out of caucus, and I remember well Bill Birch (another MP I respect deeply) coming down to read the resolution before going to inform Bolger of what was about to happen. Those really were the days of smoke filled rooms, especially when chain-smoking Doug Kidd and cigar smoking Doug Graham were in the room.

I was standing beside Maurice Williamson when he was filmed after the 2002 election debacle and uttered his now infamous comment about needing to lance the boil within the party. That particular boil took nearly 20 years to get lanced properly.

I’ve been there and seen it all, up close and personal.

When it comes to Prime Ministers, I’ve met Robert Muldoon, David Lange, Jim Bolger, Jenny Shipley, Helen Clark, John Key, Bill English and Jacinda Ardern. I think that in the current press gallery only Barry Soper can claim a similar pedigree. Hell’s teeth, I can remember Barry when he had hair and was visiting Dad’s place.

In 2008, I even had lunch with Jacinda Ardern over three hours in Morrinsville. I know she remembers it because when David Cunliffe was Labour’s leader and they were planning the Dirty Politics hit job, the members of the Labour caucus were asked if any of them had dealings with me. Jacinda Ardern, to her credit, owned up about the lunch. Stuart Nash skulked at the back and said nothing.

Politicians, by their very nature, are narcissistic, self absorbed and sociopaths. Very few of them have any compassion and those that do keep it quiet. To give you an example, when I had my stroke just one National MP bothered to come see me, and tipped up at the hospital even. No other National MP called, emailed or even sent a card. Only that one, very compassionate, and deeply misunderstood MP. Only one Labour MP bothered to message me. No, it wasn’t Stuart Nash. It was another, and his text messages to me late one night were a treasure. He knows who he is, and I appreciated those texts and those sentiments as they were heartfelt and compassionate.

Politics is a blood sport, but I believe always that we need to get past tribalism and polarisation in politics, and we very desperately need compassionate people in politics.

There are very few politicians who I respect; there are none, with the exception of one, who I despise. Helen Clark was a brilliant politician. I didn’t agree with her politics and still don’t, but she is one politician I can respect, for her immense will power, her stickability and her political skills. She fought to the very end. I have no respect for John Key. He thought he could sway a referendum on the flag, I told him he was wrong and would lose. It turned out I was right and he was wrong. That was the beginning of the end of him; he realised that he could no longer walk on water. But he also lacked courage; any man who rings another man’s father to pass on a message is gutless and beneath contempt. He bolted when he thought he couldn’t win again, and left us with Bill English, a staid and dependable Finance Minister but someone who has tits for hands when it came to leadership.

Most politicians enter politics stating all sorts of altruistic reasons why they entered parliament. Mostly they are lies, mouthing pithy sentimental tosh about making the world a better place. Parliament’s history is littered with MPs’ careers that achieved little other than enriching themselves at the taxpayers’ expense.

Despite all their foibles I sincerely believe that most are not evil: misguided maybe, but not evil. Not even Robert Muldoon was evil, but he was surely misguided. He tried his best when faced with economic doom and oil shocks. He was ill-equipped to handle the various crises that beset his government, but ironically the very power systems and energy self sufficiency we now enjoy – and our great renewable energy that the climate change advocates bang on about – were a result of Muldoon’s and Bill Birch’s foresight with Think Big. The very projects that Labour and others vociferously opposed.

Which brings me to the exception. Jacinda Ardern.

When I had that three hour lunch with her I came away thinking that this woman makes a lot of sound and thinks she sounds informed and interested about the world and politics. But on reflection, at the time, I said to David Farrar, who was also there, that she was just mouthing slogans and platitudes. Bumper sticker slogans and rehearsed lines. There was no depth there, and there still isn’t.

She is my exception, the one I believe is actually evil, and here is why I believe that.

She is fake, more fake than a $10 copy watch bought in the back alleys of Hong Kong. She has claimed many, many things, like all politicians, about why she entered politics. She professes wanting to end child poverty; she even made herself the minister in charge of ending child poverty. She also claimed that climate change was her generation’s nuclear free moment. On both of those claimed driving forces for her entering politics she has failed massively and comprehensively. All the child poverty statistics are either materially worse or have barely budged. Her climate change commitments are joke. She wrecked an industry on a Captain’s Call and then presided over the largest imports of coal we have ever seen, into a country that is sitting on huge coal reserves. Every single signature election promise has been an abject failure. She told people she was going to make houses more affordable; their cost has more than doubled. She promised to build 100,000 Kiwibuild homes, but it turned out that she couldn’t build a house in a room full of Lego. She promised light rail to the airport and has failed to lay even a single centimetre of track. None of those things are evil, but they are all dishonest and show a predilection towards failure after bold promises.

She told us that she never lies, which was a lie. But since taking power she has grabbed unprecedented additional powers, moreso than even Robert Muldoon. With that power she locked us up, removed our freedoms and told us all it was for our health. Never before in the history of the world have so many healthy people been locked up and had their freedoms taken away, all on the pretext of protecting our health.

It was all to flatten the curve, she said, then to protect the hospitals, then to save granny, then it would be short and sharp, and it ended up being the longest lockdown ever. It was all lies. If we needed more capacity in the hospitals then why haven’t they provided it? Why did they spend $55 million on bribing and corrupting the media instead of building a purpose-built ICU-only hospital in Auckland? Why did they fund cameras on fishing boats and wallaby pest eradication instead of hiring more nurses?

It was never about health; otherwise the billions spent subsidising businesses to stay closed could have instead been spent on hospitals and health care. It was all about control and manipulation. She has gaslit everyone while smiling and frowning and stealing away your rights, your freedoms, and your democracy.

Her lockdowns have cost people their lives, postponed life-saving operations and cancer treatment, destroyed businesses, wrecked careers and worst of all scared people into being irrationally afraid, especially the children. Even though that is evil, that isn’t the real evil of this woman.

The real evil was her politicisation of the Police force, coupled with her draconian lockdown rules, the creation of a Stasi-like snitch culture, creating a situation where mates are turned against mates, families are splintered and rent apart by the medical apartheid she has implemented; and her scapegoating, demonising and radicalising the unvaccinated and destroying social cohesion with her divisive, nasty, evil policies.

She said she never lies; she told us last year that Kiwis would not be penalised if they chose not to vaccinate, yet that is exactly what she has done: introduced social ostracism and punishments for daring to have free will. That is evil.

She is manipulative in the most extreme manner, like all sociopaths. Why else would she use sustained propaganda and well-known brainwashing techniques to tell us that ‘They are Us’…except for the unvaccinated, then ‘They are Us’ is discarded. ‘Team of Five Million’ was a lie, because she has now separated New Zealand into ‘Us and Them’. What else can you call it other than manipulative to forbid the use of hairdressers unless you can prove you’d been vaccinated? That particular piece of nastiness was aimed solely at those naughty women who refuse to comply.

Removing freedoms from everyone, and then giving back the vaccinated some of those freedoms while callously using the media to help gaslight everyone into believing government permissions are freedoms, at the same time as creating two classes of citizen, is even nastier and evil. She’s convinced over 70% of people that this divisiveness and nastiness is perfectly alright. She’s said it is OK to discriminate. She’s not even passed any laws to push her mandates; she’s just let businesses become her brownshirts in ostracising and demonising the unvaccinated. She’s allowed Aucklanders to be scapegoated even as she wrecked their businesses, jobs, and dreams. It is never OK to discriminate. Yet that is what this evil woman has done.

The Kiwi ethos of egalitarianism was slaughtered on the altar of Covid, and the knife used to cut its throat was wielded by Jacinda Ardern.

Add to that the racial divisions she has fostered and extended through her government, and we as a nation are now on the cusp of the destruction of everything Kiwis once stood for. The Kiwi dream has become a dark and awful nightmare, where we live and exist only with the permission of the government.

We are more divided than ever before. We are meaner, harsher and nastier than before. Her actions did that. The evil is that she pretended it was kindness.

As I’ve elaborated, like never before, I’ve seen them all, from Muldoon to Ardern. Not even the excesses of Helen Clark or Robert Muldoon were this bad. The Ardern regime is exactly that, a regime. She is evil. She has systematically and deliberately destroyed this nation, and for that, she deserves to be run out of town on a rail.

Jacinda Ardern has done something no other politician has achieved in my estimation. She has made me despise her personally, simply because she is actually evil. I disliked Muldoon and Clark, but I actually despise Jacinda Ardern.

Her platitudes, her much-vaunted compassion, and her so-called sincerity are all fake. She is a very, very shallow, manipulative and insecure person drunk on the power voters handed her. She is desperate to be seen as a hero in the world’s eyes when in reality she has become a shabby, desperate despot, worse than Robert Muldoon and Helen Clark.

Regardless of what you may think of Cam Slater, his family has been deeply connected to politics for a very long time and he has very good political instincts (although admittedly, like Winston, he’s not as sharp as he was). Emeritus professor Robert Beaglehole, chairman of Action for Smokefree 2025, told Breakfast the plan would “accelerate progress quite dramatically towards the 2025 goal, which is not to ban cigarettes but to have a very low rate of abuse in the community”.

I know the data shows that if you survive 15 years after quitting smoking, your life expectancy is the same as if you never smoked.

Contrary to my prediction, every venue I go to in Christchurch is scanning vaccine passes. The first few days it was a casual look but no longer. And for the first time yesterday I was asked to show ID to match the name on the vaccine scanner. I asked the guy why, and he said they had some obvious fakes and were now asking for ID from everyone entering the cafe. Anyway the place was packed so it did not seem to deter folk.

Every time I go to New World I sit in my car and watch and admire the determined way the octogenarians and nonogenarians mask up and totter to the jigsaw on the window, lift a palsied hand and take a photo. They are so proud of their phone and their technology skills that I should leap out and give them a badge. My club, as soon as the system of traffic lights and banning of the non-vaccinated was announced, was quick to defend the catering side of the business. All entry through the one door, only vaccinated to pass. A couple of days later an announcement of an even more efficient system. Not a word about unvaccinated members’ rights. People love their cell phones and bless the government for giving them something to do with them. I wonder if Jesus will have to show his vaccination status before The Second Coming?

    My take thus far listening to a lot more of the more sober end of the “intellectual dark web” is that elements of government regulators (specifically of big pharma and especially in the USA) are a problem. Biological processes are far more complex than our present understanding really allows us to run experiments; so we can get lucky with some treatments yet similar ones just do not appear to work.

In February the speed limit between Rangitaiki and Esk Valley reduced from 100 kph tp 80 kph.
Director of regional relationships Linda Stewart said, “It’s not safe to have the same speed limit as the Hawke’s Bay Expressway.”

It may be the limit on the Expressway but the ability to travel at 100 kph are often few and far between.

A snippet from the email sent out to all parents in the Eastport-South Manor Central School District (ESM) in Suffolk County, New York.

One such effort has to do with new regulations regarding Sudden Cardiac Arrest. All districts are now required to ensure that nurses and coaches can address the treatment and monitoring of students who exhibit signs and symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest. In addition, districts are required to make sure that all staff are aware of the warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest and what to do if a person experiences sudden cardiac arrest. Absolutely shocking. Republican senators visit a prison housing people detained in the Jan 6 protests. A prison run by a rabid anti-Trump warden. These people have yet to be charged with anything yet are being housed in inhumane conditions in a section of the prison previously decommissioned – dirty, squalid, where they are treated like prisoners of war.

Staff for Rep. Greene’s office were shown the conditions inside of cells and community showers. Recently removed mold, dirt, and other stains were clearly visible. Inmates claimed that the Marshals Service had come through their area days before and cleaned it up, in addition to painting the walls (or having them painted). Some inmates disclosed that when they arrived in the area, the cells were crawling with rats and bed bugs. The air circulation in the individual cells is so minimal that human feces and other smells begin to fester and pollute the air.

But the physical conditions of the area were just the start. Inmates were only allowed out of their cells for five hours a day, a small mercy. Prior to this relative freedom, inmates were kept in their cells similar to the maximum security inmates: 23 and 1 (23 hours in the cell, 1 hour out), 22 and 2, (21 and 3), etc. One inmate, who had been detained since February 3, 2021, explained that he had been subjected to “23 and 1” for four months, followed by two months of 22 and 2. This inmate stated that he had gone through 200 days of solitary confinement. This type of treatment is being used against inmates who are all pre-trial. They have been convicted of nothing.

Congresswoman Greene, I want to talk to you about September 18th. Remember they had the big rally in support of us at the square in Washington [D.C.]?

They [DOC] woke us up prisoner-of-war style in the dawn, at 7:00 in the morning. [They] made us grab our mattresses in our hands and didn’t tell us where we were going, what was happening, how long we were going to be gone. They marched us down single file out of here, we started singing the national anthem; I got punched in the gut for singing the national anthem by a guard here as retaliation.

They pulled us down into a random part of the jail and kept us there for 9 hours where there were no sinks, no bathrooms, or anything. We didn’t know what was happening to us. It was literally how you treated prisoners-of-war to keep them disoriented and not let them know where you’re going and everything — it was a travesty. They did that to us about at 8:00 in the morning to about 6:00 at night.

Inmate 2: That was the day the rally happened. I saw him get punched by the officer.

Inmate 1: For singing the national anthem I got punched in the gut!

Senior Manager at Christchurch council is not vaccinated reports Stuffed and all the councillors are.
How is this legal and not a violation of the privacy act? Did the Manager authorise his company to publish and share his vaccination status with the media? Hello privacy commissioner. I hope we start to see some court cases.

  Old vid, but important. I know about this through my job. So many little shitbox cars towing boats and caravans that have a tare weight more than the car – never weighed by plod. Front wheel drive cars even worse. The trailer/ caravan breaking rules are so bad in NZ, but not at the top end of 3500kg gvm.

Following the death yesterday from the virus of a 0 to 9 year old … Still think this ???

A genuine fair question to see which way KB sees this.

An overwhelming Yes to this which I admit really surprised me. And why?

Because I do not readily subscribe to Pavlov responses conditioned by whatever the blog conspiracy theorists put about.

Sooo … I must await the factual official inevitable probing and factual cause of death findings … OK?

  “From” the virus? They don’t know. “With”, yes. The child tested positive for Covid after he died. So, they didn’t even know he had it.
  
  Recorded Covid deaths include all cases where a person was classified as having an active case of the virus at the time of death. In some of these cases, the underlying cause of death may have been unrelated to Covid-19.
  
  It is not clear if the child, believed to be a Māori boy from Counties Manukau, had any underlying medical conditions that may have contributed to his death.

  To my mind, if they didn’t even know the boy was infected, then he likely died of something else. But the media like to make it Covid-focused.

  The death remains under investigation and has been referred to the coroner.
  
  The child was in hospital for some unknown reason.
  It was not known that the child who died with Covid-19 had the virus until after his death.

    Given that the child wasn’t tested until after death, and then because a relative had tested positive, it is safe to assume it was showing no symptoms of Covid on admission. Statistically a child under five is about 45 times more likely to die from other causes than from Covid, so if we add that statistic to the evidence of absence of symptoms, we can state conclusively that it is highly likely that the RNZ report that the child died from the virus is wrong; whether it is a deliberate lie or an irresponsible inaccuracy is to be determined.
    The reticence with which the Department of Health admitted that the death had even occurred suggests that there is more to this than meets the eye.

And from the UK, Bojo on his last strike apparently after the Tories lost a safe seat they had held for almost 200 years. The previous majority for the sitting MP Owen Paterson was 23,000. The Lib Dems took the seat with an almost 6000 majority. That’s a massive swing. There were a few other factors behind the result but one of them would be the Lib Dems opposition to vaccine passports. As they said recently:

“Sir Ed Davey used his speech to a joint conference of the Scottish and Welsh Liberal Democrats to highlight his party’s stance against what he branded ‘Covid ID cards'”

Maybe National should pay attention.

Police have released the name of the baby who died of “non-accidental” injuries in Starship Hospital on Friday, which sparked a homicide probe.

He was 10-month-old Chance Kamanaka O Ke Akura Aipolani-Nielson.
