Our politicians are disgusting cowards. Every single one of them. By refusing to even eyeball, let alone engage with their fellow New Zealanders they have established a new precedent, namely only talk to people with whom you agree. So much for all the weasel words about celebrating diversity, team of 5 million and the cringiest of all, ‘be kind’.
I expected nothing less from politicians on the left. However Seymour and Luxon I am looking at you, bigger things were expected. Those noisy people outside the building in which you are hiding are your fellow kiwis who all contribute to your outsized salaries. You don’t have to agree with them. Just grow a pair and look them in the eye.
That would be leadership worth paying for.

I went to the anti-mandate at Parliament yesterday, and I will be there again today.
I have to confess that I was a bit apprehensive before I got there yesterday, because of the msm reports I had read. And the mud and rain should have made it miserable, but it was quite the reverse. It was one of the most positive experiences I have had recently. In some ways it was actually joyous.
Far from there being an atmosphere of threats and intimidation, it was friendly and upbeat. People in the crowd were even shouting messages of thanks and love to the police.
There was a good cross-section people there; Maori and pakeha, old and young, men and women and children, vaxxed and non-vaxxed, believers and non-believers. My guess is that many, if not the majority, of them will have voted Labour at the last election.
I talked to a couple of dozen people, from Auckland, Tauranga, Te Puke, Hastings, Palmerston North, Shannon, Christchurch, Rangiora and Ashburton, as well as from various parts of the Wellington region.
Six of the people I talked to had lost their jobs because of the vaccine mandate, including two teachers, a teaching assistant, a school caretaker, a paramedic and a factory worker. Despite this, they voiced no hostility towards the government; they just wanted the mandate to end.
Another person I spoke to – a young electrician – had become ill as soon as he had his second jab in December. He now has chest pain, joint pains and fatigue. He struggles to get through a working day.
So my message to anyone reading this is: get to the protest if you can, disregard anything you read about it or see about it on TV, and don’t believe anything people like Grant Robertson and Souxsie Wiles have to say about the protesters.
Stand up Kiwis! Make the mandate end now.

  mandk: yes, I have been down there this morning to deliver warm, dry clothes and other supplies. There were many others doing the same, and there was a shuttle operating where people were taking protesters home for a hot shower. The vibe was excellent, a real mix of Maori and Pakeha all united against the disproportionate and unjust mandates. Jacinda has finally brought us together; now she should resign, as of this evening.

Is Barry Manilow, aged 78 now, still young enough to be bothered to instruct a lawyer to sue Trevor Mallard for illegal use of Manilow’s music, besmirching his reputation to a nation of five million people, even although half of them may have never heard of Barry Manilow?

And Ardern’s Labour Mallard himself – is he displaying characteristics of nasty meanness, paranoia, and misjudgement that seems to undermine the dignity, integrity and impartiality one could mistakenly expect of a Speaker of the House of Representatives, rather than initiating the fucking up of Parliament’s precinct – the lawns?
And diverting attention from conned outbreak striking Auckland City Hospital as multiple staff, patients test positive

And is Ardern’s Labour David Parker – ‘Tiny group’ of NZers who are ‘misguided by garbage’ on social media – Labour Minister blasts anti-mandate protesters – or Ardern’s Labour Robertson – says people who ‘threaten, harass and disrupt’ lose right to protest – being any more helpful as Fears anti-mandate protest could be COVID-19 super-spreader event as police warn it could go on for days more but a Political irony: Speaker Trevor Mallard and COVID-19 Minister Chris Hipkins’ historic arrests make it hard to trespass protesters.

I still think Luxon is missing quite an opportunity, actually useful or just political, in not publicly inviting a small delegation of protestors – or even an A4 paper, both sides if need be, summarising views from each – to explain their grievances.
In subsequent media coverage what as their may be, and in the House, he could claim he and his Party at least offered an avenue of communication, rather than helping fuck up the lawns.

    Frankly, I’m absolutely horrified at the transparency of the overpowering GUTLESSNESS the pair of them have shown.
    
    Seymour – because up ’til now he, on behalf of his party, has been the voice that National SHOULD have been for many, many months.
    
    Luxon – because he’s shown himself to be nothing like what a LEADER should be – especially a Leader of the National Party. Irrespective of whatever were the political implications he feared and has scurried around behind (which shouldn’t have been any sort of consideration, even remotely), a REAL LEADER would have discerned INSTANTLY that the Freedom Convoy protest and ALL its tens of thousands of supporters were acting with every right and genuine reason to oppose the Ardern’s government’s underhand communist efforts that are WRECKING OUR COUNTRY! A REAL LEADER would have swung in and praised the convoy’s efforts and dedication and upheld its perspective in parliament. But he hasn’t, so I think Luxon should quit. He’s shown nothing remotely resembling the attributes necessary to understand what’s at hand. GET OUT CHRISTOPHER! GO NOW!

  I have called Mallard DESPICABLE since the incident with the Parliamentary worker came to my attention.
  
  Now I think I am being kind to him – he is nothing more than a cruel thug and in all probability has been so all of his life. A nasty man with no respect for anyone that does not agree with him.
  
  Mallard do New Zealand a favour and resign not only as Speaker but also from Parliament – go and live in North Korea – you may fit in there.

    I would hope that McDonalds and other businesses in the vicinity, who must be enjoying an increase in turnover, not to give the detestable little jerk any support.

    David George – Fine words. The “left” as an entity seems to have vanished in the last 40 years or so. The champagne socialists who have filled the void are vapid zombies, devoid of any of the traits that class of person is normally imbued with.
    This should be an easy opportunity for the conservative classes but they are apparently missing in action. Is this stupidity? Or is it as it now seems, all of our political parties are captured and there is no meaningful representation of the actual people of the country?
    It defies logic, that Seymour and Luxon are not aware of the horrendous assault on democracy that has endured under Ardern in the last 2 years. More incredible is that neither seems to have the inclination to seize the opportunity this presents.
    There will be people more intelligent than I how will dissect this puzzle eventually. In the meanwhile, I sit in disbelief at what I am watching unfold, and I have witnessed some astonishing events in my life.

      Rather than engage with the protesters hear their stories and show some understanding and empathy they are hiding in the cellars like the rats they are.

      As such you should have observed that the “conservative classes” in New Zealand don’t actually conserve anything. The definition of “conservative” for them means sitting quietly and getting on with life while events sweep them along.

    It was notable that when a senior journalist on one of their Sunday gab fests (Face The Nation said the following of kids like her own, “They will be paying for our generation’s decisions the rest of their lives”, it was cut from the broadcast version, although still available via CBS’s online platform. Here’s part of what she said:
    
    My kids hear me rant about this every day. So I may as well tell you guys. It’s the crushing impact that our Covid policies have had on young kids and children, by far the least serious risk for serious illness.
    
    Even teenagers, I mean, a healthy teenager has a one-in-a-million chance of getting … and dying from Covid, which is way lower than dying in a car wreck on a road trip. But they have suffered and sacrificed the most, especially kids in underrepresented and at-risk communities. And now we have the surgeon general saying there’s a mental health crisis among our kids. The risk of attempts among girls is now up 51 percent this year. Black kids nearly twice as likely as White kids to die by suicide.
    
    I mean, school closures, lockdowns, cancellation of sports…You couldn’t even go on a playground in the D.C. area without cops scurrying…. getting… shooing the kids off. Tremendous negative impact on kids, and it’s been an afterthought.”

      Tom, that is so true. We’ve seen it hear in our on child. Started Year 8 last week & he is petrified of another lockdown, & being cut off from his friends again.
      
      Then there are the young in final years of school or at tertiary institutions who are getting half baked qualifications assessments & presenting themselves for jobs.
      
      Well done the world’s political & commercial leaders, you have screwed with the world’s next generation! I hope you are proud of what you have achieved!

Just been down to the protest. A quick update
– very wet. Wellington’s finest overnight has taken its toll on the tents, but not the people
– there is an amazing team of volunteers looking after food. I visited the distribution centre while has a large and growing stock. I’ll spent today running around buying things they’re running low on.
– there is some risk of hypothermia for some of the worst impacted by the overnight weather. If you are Wellington based and could see your way to offering a couple if people hot showers and a couple of hours respite care that would be awesome. There’s no system for this, or if there is I don’t yet know about it.

  What those protesters need is a leader krazy. Somebody to speak to the press. Somebody to direct the outrage. Somebody to coalesce the wild statements of marital breakdown and desire to kill into something that indicates coherency and civility are to be found there.

  An epidemiologist. A political philosopher. A medical researcher. A gifted communicator. A man who can wind up to 300 words of bile and outrage at a tyrannical leader and not need to come up for air.
  
  Plenty of soldiers in the reserves krazy. What they need is their Napoleon, their Alexander, their Julius Caesar, their Genghis Khan.
  
  Your people need you krazy. This is your moment. Carpe diem krazy. Carpe a megaphone and carpe diem.

  The right to protest is being undermined not only in NZ but in other Western countries. Politicans of the Left Right and Centre are seeking ways and means of curbing or shutting down protests even if they are peaceful. This is part of the de-democratisation agenda of those who seek a One World Government.
  I no longer trust ANY of the political parties or their politicans to hold to my values of Freedom of the Individual Freedom of Speech Thought and Movement.
  As a law abiding citizen I no longer have any faith in the political system in this country to protect me from the tryanny of the State.

If there are people are calling for others to be killed then the least you could do David is get out there, expose them but support the other 99% because they are the real citizens of New Zealand.   great to see the level of overt/active support for those on the ground that is occurring – but just a thought – sure the hay for underfoot was probably imported but I’d also be sure the the local businesses that their local MP insists are doing it so hard due a to the disruption are seeing a good increase in turnover supplied by the interlopers compared to what they saw when their locals recently abandoned them to work at home.

We have increasing numbers of marginalised people in New Zealand. But the vax is a tiny part of that.

  Yes, it’s also true of climate modelling.
  
  Modelling (done well) has two uses:
  1) It shows you the probability distribution of the possible outcomes,
  2) It shows you what changes/initiatives should have the largest effect.
  
  So it helps you understand the scale of the problem, and which levers to pull on.
  
  The weakness is that the media tend to focus on only the worst-case “if we do nothing” scenarios, and that a chunk of the public then panic about those worst-case “if we do nothing” scenarios.

One person’s story.

I chose not to get vaxxed as I live in a part of the country pretty much unaffected to date by covid. Why not wait, see what happens & jump in when I need to, I thought to myself. Questions began to form about the Pfizer vax, so I thought I’d go with Novavax or Valneva when they were approved (taking longer than anticipated, chaps!).

Now that Omicron has popped up, I’m thinking that an infection & natural immunity is the way to go. I’m not looking forward to it because I don’t like being sick, but it is what it is.

For the record, I’m in good health (haven’t taken a day’s sick leave in years), not too far off retirement, work in a private sector role that’s been inconvenienced but no more by Covid & the mandate, & am well enough off via prudent savings to retire if I need to. I’ve also flogged myself at work across the pandemic & am a net tax payer by a country mile.

I wholeheartedly support the protest at parliament. I feel for those who have lost their jobs, fear mortgage foreclosure & so on – at an earlier stage of my life, that could have been me. I oppose the mandate because it’s fundamentally undemocratic. Had covid been ravaging the country like the Spanish’flu; or as the early images from Northern Italy suggested – well, different facts, different views. But it’s not.

  Omicron has a pretty similar case fatality rate to Covid OG **if you are unvaccinated**. That’s why deaths in the US are running at about 3,000 per day, and why Aussie has got a regular run of 90-100 deaths per day too (to use just two examples).

    I don’t agree with you. Deaths from covid always have a delay time of 3 – 4 weeks. Omicron is still quite new so how many of those Aussie deaths were from Delta infection? I note that there has been a big decline in their death numbers.

      Covid deaths in 2022 have been almost totally due to Omicron.
      
      Omicron emerged in South Africa in mid-Nov, and was the dominant strain through every country except NZ by the end of December.
      
      Omicron has about the same CFR (case fatality rate) as the original Covid strain. Unless you’re vaccinated.

        Vaccination status of total cases and hospitalisations since August 2021
        3343 under 12
        4443 unvaccinated aged 12+
        
        Total of 7,786 unvaccinated cases. (the vast majority of the under 12 total would be unvaccinated given they only recently started)
        
        10 unvaccinated deaths. Case Fatality Rate 0.13%.
        
        Covid-19 has an IFR of 1% and CFR of 2–3%. More recent data by the CDC and WHO, however, estimates that Covid-19 has an IFR of 0.65% and 0.5-1%, respectively.
        
        The flu has an IFR of 0.1% or lower and CFR of 2–3%.
        
        That study was from early 2020 arguing for lockdowns on the basis that even if the CFR and IFR of C-19 was no worse than the flu, the deaths would be greater because it was a novel, infectious virus.
        
        Two years later, by definition, that cannot be the case.

        To use statistics from the US … flu deaths average 36,000 a year, with the worst ever year (2017) having 61,000 deaths.
        
        Meanwhile in the US Covid deaths are running at well over 400,000 a year (ie 10x flu), with worst ever *month* (Jan 2021) being 105,000, and deaths from the “mild” Omicron currently running at about 90,000 a month.

I’d like to thank Trevor Mallard. His recent actions during the protest at parliament have not only reminded us of what a petty and mean spirited person he is, they also clearly illustrate the true nature of this government, which is callous towards those who are not its friends.

Irrespective of their views, the protesters are NZ citizens who have the right to express their opinions. That they have made the effort to travel to Wellington indicates the depth of their feelings. If protesting on the nation’s front lawn doesn’t encourage government politicians to step outside the Beehive to listen to them then they are not fit to hold office.

Who would have thought the anti-mandate protests would expose the worst in lefties?

Bullying behavior is now on full display by Speaker Mallard (once a bully, always a bully, it seems when it comes to Mr Mallard).

First it was the sprinklers, then came the loud music to deter the protesters … what’s next?

Does Mallard, in the shallow recesses of his darkened mind, wish he can enact fellow (far) leftie Chris Trotter’s call for Police violence against the protesters?

Who would have thought “good ol’ commie” Trotter would be advocating State sanctioned violence against mainly peaceful protesters (bar the odd exceptions)?

Well he is, over at The Daily Blog, Trotter is deliberately mis-characterising the anti-mandate protesters as “anti-vaxxers” and ends his article (called “Move The Anti-Vaxxers On – Now”) with this sentence:

Let’s see what “a state of enforcement action” looks like.

If that’s not clear enough, over on his Bollwalley Road blogsite he ends another article (“Policing Protests: Then, And Now”) with a call for protesters to be beaten and killed:

Halting the anti-vaxxers in their tracks would require a level of force unseen in this country for decades. Some of the anti-vaxxer crowd would need more than a PR-24 to subdue them. The wholesale use of tasers, tear-gas and pepper-spray would be required. Even, ultimately, the use of deadly force.

Has the (political) Left gone mad? Trotter seems to have gone full Trotsky (and I’m surprised no one is calling him out).

I also had a quick look at The Standard the other day, I could only stomach a moment of scrolling through the comments of the lefties there, denigrating people’s right to protest!

It seems on the Left, only Martyn Bradbury is calling out the Speaker Mallard’s insane bully-boy tactics (and has been, for the last few days).

My goodness, what has the world come to when I agree with Martyn Bradbury! 😉

    As a matter of principle the current Government would not want to call in the Army. This would cause significant political damage. The objective is to minimise longer term political damage and how to do this is quite a dilemma. The lazy option is to hope the whole thing will blow over in the next week. If the hope is fulfilled political damage may be minimised. As I see it a big risk is the protest spreading meaning that more people and businesses are affected and the bus system is severely disrupted.

If Hilary Clinton is the best that the Democrats can do, which seems likely, then I feel sorry for America. It’s quite possible that she will win, so I’d feel even more sorry. Oh for two good candidates. I like the cut of the jib of Pompeo (No 1 at West Point) but we m sure there are others.

  Hilary won’t even put her name forward. And the DNC know that she is too polarising to win an election so there’s no way she’d come through to win the nomination. So Steve’s idea that “Kilary” (lol) will make a comeback in 2024 is just a fever dream.
  
  I seriously doubt Biden will put his name forward either. He’s a one-term “course correction” President.
  
  So it will come down to a new generation of Democrat politicians. Harris and Buttigieg are likely the front runners. I’m not aware of a Democrat state governor who has the profile, charisma and track record to come through.

I might have missed a comment about it, but late on last night I read about the duck ordering the speakers to be played loudly at parliament. I heard the plan was to play them right through the night. Playing the Macarana and Covd jab ads. First thing I thought was Apocalypse now and the Vietcong tormenting the American GIs in the jungle. It will only make the resolve stronger. Mallard is not only a bully and a thug, he is incredibly stupid.

  I commented on this last night (sorry, on my phone so can’t link easily). Couple of points.
  
  Firstly, Mallard said: “We wanted to make sure everybody here had the warning about trespass and because of the number of unvaccinated people in the audience, we believe it’s important to promulgate messages about vaccination.”
  
  Which got me wondering … so how, exactly, does Mr Mallard know what “the number of unvaccinated people in the audience” is? Or is he just making stuff up … as usual?
  
  Secondly … is this the same Trevor Mallard who, a couple of years ago, launched an independent review into bullying and harassment of staff at Parliament? Maybe he should look up the meaning of the word “ironic”.

In essence HDPA writes about Speaker Mallard’s Authoritarian Bully-Boy tactics (over media coverage) and social cohesion breaking down if Labour (Ardern/Robertson/Mallard) continue to mismanage the vaccine mandate issue.

Apparently, Mallard did not instruct media to stay on the balcony. It was a “request” based on health and safety concerns. But again, judge for yourself.

A member of the press gallery did venture out in spite of this “request”. Disclaimer: it was NewstalkZB’s Political Editor Barry Soper. He’s both my colleague and my husband so I freely admit my bias here.
After spotting Barry out among the protesters on Wednesday, Mallard called the press gallery’s deputy chair to remind him of the “request” that media not use the forecourt to meet the protesters. This request was repeated to Barry, who ignored it and went out a second time that afternoon. Mallard then called the press gallery’s chair to remind her of the “request”. Again, it was passed on to Barry. If a “request” is repeatedly given without solicitation, it starts to look like an instruction.
Mallard should consider the chilling effect he may be having on members of the media, given the power he wields in that building, including the ability to withdraw permission to work in the gallery. It is notable that at least one newsroom dispatched reporters who don’t work in Parliament to cover the protest on the ground, while their press gallery colleagues stayed on the balcony.
Mallard should also consider that the duty of care for the safety of members of the media actually lies with the editors those media report to, not with him.
Finally – and most importantly – he should consider the message this sends to the protesters. TVNZ reporter Kristin Hall observed and tweeted that “protesters are resentful of media standing above them on the parly balcony”. Many of them are already so steeped in conspiracies that they believe the mainstream media are censoring their views and are paid off by the Government. It’s hardly helpful for Mallard to reinforce the conspiracy nonsense by essentially restricting media movement.

HDPA ends her article with:

We’re currently witnessing a breakdown in the country’s social cohesion. The pandemic is widening divisions. The passion behind this protest is proof. We all know the only way to avoid that getting worse is to understand each other. But we won’t understand each other unless we talk to each other.
That’s the role of the media. Reporters are meant to report. In order to report, they need to talk to people.
As angry and disruptive as some of those protesters were, they’re still our fellow Kiwis. As Speaker, Mallard should be doing everything to try to help heal divisions, not make them worse.

HDPA is on the money again. For goodness sake Labour (Ardern/Robertson/Mallard), please “change tack” and make meaningful adjustments (or scrap) the vaccine mandate issue, both for your sake (as the nation’s leadership) and for NZ society.

As pointed out by many here, vaccine mandates and vaccine passports don’t stop the spread of Omicron. With Omicron being “mild”, why isn’t the Govt prioritising protecting the vulnerable and those with health concerns, instead of holding the nation captive?

It has been said that this Labour govt is the most divisive in NZ’s recent history. The Left and MSM usually scoff at these (“right-wing”) remarks … but as the likes of HDPA points out in her article NZ’s social cohesion has been damaged – good hard working and professional people have lots their jobs (and some their houses) because for whatever reason they do not want to be fully jabbed.

For some they have genuine health reasons (eg bad reactions to the initial vaccine shots), or they may be awaiting for alternative vaccines to be “MoH approved” (again why is the govt so slow on approving alternative vaccines – it seems like another example of their dithering and incompetence being played out).

But at the end of the day we must not have a divided and segregated society – Labour (Ardern/Robertson/Mallard) your current approach is further enabling this and it needs to stop.

The Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives is the highest officer elected by the House. The position is third most important constitutionally, after the Governor-General and the Prime Minister.

The Speaker is the Member of Parliament that the House of Representatives chooses to communicate with the Sovereign on its behalf. The Speaker’s role includes chairing meetings in the House and certain select committees. The Speaker acts as landlord for Parliament’s buildings and represents the House to international and other important visitors.

The sentence in bold is key; Mallard is Parliament’s conduit to the Governor-General and the Queen. It is an important role, which requires a certain level of dignity and gravitas.

Mallard’s behaviour in the last week has been anything but dignified, and his decisions to turn on the sprinklers overnight on Friday, and last night try to blast the protesters out with cheesy music are attracting international attention and ridicule.

There are a whole lot of Mallard memes doing the rounds at the moment. I saw one last night which had three photos; a packet of beef stock, a packet of chicken stock, each self-explanatory, and a photo of Mallard on his office balcony the other day. That one is captioned Laughing Stock.

Mallard’s position as Speaker is untenable. If he does not resign, the Prime Minister must take steps to have him replaced On returning to Parliament tomorrow, National and Act need to lodge a Notice of Motion expressing No Confidence in the Speaker. He is simply unfit to continue in this important constitutional role.

Mallard must go.

        ” The breach of ………………. may result in trespass notices being issued.
        
        Suspect Police might have issued some on the spot on Thursday for “lack of actions” with immediate arrest as ploy to get them of the site.

  It could also be that National and ACT might find support from an “unlikely” ally, that of the Parliamentary Press Gallery.
  
  As per Heather du Plessis-Allan article in the NZH today (“The fine line between advice and instruction”), Speaker Mallard is controlling and restricting the Parliamentary Press Gallery reporters from talking to the crowd. This is an affront to not only democracy, but to “Press Freedoms”.
  
  If the Parliamentary Press Gallery realise that National and ACT “have their backs” with such a motion, perhaps all of the media will be able to free themselves from Mallards (and Labours) Jackboots and report the “people’s views” (instead of Labour’s controlled messaging)?

My son’s 19 year old friend is ditching Auckland uni where he is doing a double major in economics and finance to complete his degree at the university of Melbourne – Like many, these kids are sick of home schooling their university degrees for another semester or more and he believes there will be more job opportunity in oz (I completely agree with him) …. Brain drain at all levels thanks Cindy. I wonder if the universities of Otago and Auckland who have both stipulated home schooling for the first semester at least are going to reduce the fees? Yeah nah

So let’s analyse Labour’s tactics here.

As usual Jacinda Ardern has “been disappeared” (from media scrutiny).

As usual when the heat is on the PM, Grant Robertson steps up (and deflects the media with his usual “nah it’s all conspiracy theories” tripe).

It’s pretty obvious that Grant is “in-charge” whilst Jacinda takes the weekend off to rest and recuperate. After all he is Deputy and the MP for Wellington Central, so he has more than a vested interest in “managing” these protests.

Of course Speaker Mallard is in charge of Parliament, so also has a vested interest in “managing” these protests, but has direct lines to the likes of Police hierarchy etc. He’s in a very powerful position, naturally.

So Mallard “fronts” these protests and you can bet that he is consultation with Robertson over tactics (let Robbo “refute” that to the media if they dare ask – but he is the Deputy and is the MP for Welly Central, so clearly a key player)!

Anyway this all gives us an insight into the “new” Labour Party/Govt when Ardern steps down because of the pressure and brand damage her reputation is suffering (both internally and more importantly overseas eyes looking in).

So one does not have to imagine a Labour Party/Govt with Robbo (and Mallard) in charge (and without Ardern) … we are all witnessing it now and it isn’t pretty and it isn’t decent and it is most definitely not “kind” …

  if we are at 810 new cases today then we have 6 more doubling times to take us up to 51,840 cases/day.
  
  Of course folks may not be coming in for testing and there could well be 2500 new cases today…… in which case…we could be at 50,000 new cases in just over 4 doubling times…
  
  so, perhaps next weekend or by the end of the month at the latest (unless those boosters have kicked in!)

    The case number is growing at about 19% per day, which is a doubling every 4 days.
    
    The hospitalisation number is growing, but it’s still a little early to calculate a sensible growth rate (because of the lag between infection > case > hospitalisation). I’d expect the number of hospitalisations to begin to ramp up late this coming week.

  There’s also a Mallard Bridge across one of the drainage channels dug by the protesters. BTW, when the sprinklers were finally turned off last night, the protestors’ response was to fill in and re-turf most of the drains they had dug. I can’t imagine Extinction Rebellion ever doing that!

Effective immediately…

• The one-metre rule is abolished

• The requirement to wear face masks is abolished

• Only adults with symptoms are now advised to get tested for COVID-19

• The requirement to self-isolate for four days has been downgraded to a recommendation

• Kindergarten children and school pupils should stay home if ill, but can return after one fever-free day

• All remaining requirements to show a negative test on arrival at the Norwegian border have been scrapped

Here’s a question for you…

Now I don’t care at all whether you are or aren’t vaccinated or whether you’re pro anti or indifferent

I have a logic question to ask

If we take at face value the need for boosters and we know that the govt is pushing the Omicron peak towards winter, how does it make any kind of sense?

1. Winter will bring with it the usual respiratory illnesses, some of which will cause hospitalisations

But the the bigger issue, from what I can tell is

2. Those that were boosted first were those who got vaccinated first, those that got vaccinated first were the “vulnerable” in society. So with the peak being pushed out those vulnerable people will be hitting the peak just as the vaccine’s efficacy is falling while those with the best booster efficacy will be the least vulnerable

Also said, “It’s not a tactic we would encourage. It is what it is. Shit happened”

I was involved with the removal of Occupy protesters from Aotea Square a decade ago. Despite the fact that they were a rag-tag bunch with no clearly discernible cohesion and some rather odd opinions, they were treated with dignity and respect until the protest finally came to a halt with them being moved on lawfully. Andrew Coster was in charge of the low-key but firm Police operation to implement an injunction granted by the District Court. Auckland Council behaved responsibly and with patience in the measures it took to bring the protest to an end.

By contrast, this Speaker is behaving like a petulant child with his sprinklers and speakers. Is there something special about Covid that entitles those in power to behave in a high-handed and arrogant fashion towards those with whom they disagree, or is it simply now acceptable in our democracy for those who wish to protest or object, to be treated like animals?

We hear a lot from NZ Media and ‘Opinion-Leaders’ about misinformation, and how we must be protected from rumours put out by people with hidden agendas.
Yet the media is only too happy to convey Govt messages about ‘Far-right radicals planning to invade Parliament through a nearby building’ (Mallard), ‘Faeces on the ground’ (Police/Mallard), someone testing positive (Mallard), weapons being hidden on site (Police) etc etc.
No evidence presented, despite constant video feed being available.
Of course Mallard would not use the media to spread disinformation, would he ?
And if he tried, surely the media would request evidence, or push back ??
