What a difference in attitude and demeanor for our sour puss Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern who has taken a beating in the polls and from certain parts of the media in the last week.
But it’s more noticeable with her false smiles and laughter when announcing New Zealand is to open their borders to the world, well that’s her words but really it’s only a certain few countries, this just another flip flop after rejecting calls for months from National and Act to open our borders and save the Tourist industry.
But what irks me more is the media using Simon Bridges as a weapon to take the pressure off our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern after he resigned from Parliament as a MP you have Jounalists

Then we have had another who’s name escapes me at present suggesting Bridges has resigned because to many National MP’s have stabbed him in the back and finally the Herald editorial how National Party burnt Simon Bridges.

Here is another prediction that will irk our fellow battlers.       I don’t quite follow your analogy — no matter — but it would appear you don’t know the difference between FPP and Proportional Representation (PR) — MMP is a PR variant.
      
      In 1990, National won 69% of the 97 seats on offer (67), on 48% of the total of valid votes cast. Labour won 30% of the seats (29) on 35% of the votes. (That, in a nutshell, is one reason why FPP had to go.)
      
      In 2020, there were 2,886,420 valid Party votes cast, of which 2,661,238 were cast for the five successful parties. The remaining 225,182 votes were ineffective.
      
      Labour received 1,443,545 valid Party votes (54.24% of the effective votes) and was allocated 65 seats (54.16%). National received 738,275 valid Party votes (27.74%) and was allocated 33 seats (27.50%).
      
      So, as you can see, if your prediction that “Labour will get thrashed” at the next election proves to be correct, there will be no landslide of 1990 proportions. That is not how PR/MMP works. National will not receive a 21% bonus in seats, for example, as it did in 1990; it will receive its proper, proportional allocation, as will the other successful parties.

    Luxon has a two front battle on his hands. The media of course, they’re just warming up. While half of the National base have rejected Luxon as leader. He’s squandered Covid cowering behind Jacinda’s skirts. Appalling displays of bad ongoing political judgement. He doesn’t take a position on anything, putting a buck each way. National doesn’t unsteady leadership going into 2023.

    When you lose a third of your support there will be many MPs in Labour that will be hurting. It cannot be hard to not notice things heating up within caucus. It is obvious to outsiders some of the labour ideology is toxic to voters and no doubt to list MPs trying to keep their snouts in the trough.

  He was voted in by the Tauranga electorate in 2020 and unless he’s got a really good reason he should honour his commitment to the people of Tauranga for the duration of the parliamentary term

I’d bet a dollar to a dime that most of the locals would wish she’d jump in Lake Wakatipu. If ever the disconnect between Jacinda’s planet spin and the real world was laid bare it was this week. How come you guys believe the Ministry on fluoridation and disbelieve the Ministry on the jab? Make up your mind. Do you trust the Ministry of Health or not? Do you trust “The Science”?

  Blanket belief or disbelief in the MoH would be the height of unscientific behaviour, so accusing sceptics of not doing one or the other is not any argument at all for the vaccines. How does the MoH declaring fluoridation to be safe and effective lend any weight at all to their pronouncements about vaccine efficacy and safety? It doesn’t.
  
  Vaccine sceptics aren’t making an a priori case against mRNA vaccination, deciding against them and then seeking to justify their position after the fact (in fact, this is what the authorities are doing, except their starting-point is “safe and effective” followed by attempts to justify that statement). Our sceptical judgments are reached a posteriori through the accumulated empirical evidence that clearly tells us that they offer little if any protection against Covid, and that the high incidence of vaccine injuries indicate they are not as safe as we are told either.

So I was watching yotube and an ad popped up. Jacinda saying the government is reducing fuels costs and to visit labour.org.nz for more information.
Now, it’s the government reducing the fuel, shouldn’t this be a government advert and not a Labour party one? I thought this would be considered electioneering?

NASA’s new SLS rocket rolled out to the pad for the first time yesterday.
It is not expected to launch until June, though later is likely given the delays at every step of it’s progress to date. It us already 6 years behind schedule.
And it is estimated that it will cost US$4 BILLION per launch!

      Some DHB’s required front line staff with patient contact to be vaccinated. They were moved to other non-contact roles if they were not willing or unable to be given the vaccines. I can’t recall if any staff were sacked or stood down with these rules.

    I visit the New Brighton Hot pools regularly. They are excellent. You need to wear a mask walking through reception but you can then take it off. There is a sign asking folk to wear masks in the changing rooms. Yesterday I was in the changing room with about 10 people. Not one wearing a mask.

      Ridiculous, isnt it. You can sit next to someone in a hot pool maskless but must wear one when you’re geting changed? It’s a pantomime. I popped into a tyre shop yesterday to get a puncture repaired. Walked in with my mask on and 3 guys in overalls turnaround, maskless, and one says “how can we help”? I said, “if you’re not wearing yours, I’ll take this bloody thing off too” and we had a laugh. At our son’s summer football 95% of parents wear masks, despite being outside on a huge field. I’m definitely not wearing one in that environment, so I stand alone, far away from anyone so I don’t upset them, breathing freely with the sun on my face. It’s lovely, saves from making small talk, too.

      Went to a supermarket the other day, won’t name it or the town in case there is backlash, an elderly couple walked straight in without scanning or wearing a mask. Nothing said or done. It’s over, back to normal.
      Builders and plumbers, as well as electricians, don’t wear masks. At least the ones I deal with.

        They stated clearly that they want to remove mandates for under 18 year olds and they didn’t mention a time frame for vax passes for large events that I’m aware of?
        All in all, a very, very weak response and I doubt it will be hugely different to what Ardern announces next week. In fact, I won’t be surprised if Ardern goes further than Bishop advocated in the removal of restrictions.

  It’s not enough that it just end. The entire response to covid should be reported upon and trashed as the greatest failure of policy since WW1. We have our politicians slapping each other’s back saying how great they did. We are set up for a repeat. We would be so much better off if back in March 2020 we did precisely nothing.
  
  I am not expecting that to happen. Our overlords in Parliament will never admit their error and so history will repeat.

    Correct Rodney. The covid legislation needs trashed immediately and nothing like it ever permitted again. An extensive inquiry needs to be held and measures enshrined making sure such powers can’t be abused again as they have by this government.
    There should be apologies at the very least to anyone mandated out of their job.
    It has been a horrific 2 years. Horrific abuses by this group of amateurs.

      Think back not too long ago to the Media Pardy and legal reaction to the so called Wanaka runaway couple , they were the evilest thing since a carbon emmision.
      
      Flash forward to a high profile rugby team members not wearing masks on a ‘plane and a Green MP travelling when she shouldn’t and while it was reported by the same Media pardy who crucified and villified the so called runaways , these latter two cases of law breaking , well just ho hum.
      
      Not to mention if you’re the friend of a regime selected “influencer” scientist , you get to go to the beach with her and go swimming and the Chief Doom Sayer even declares that to not be swimming !

    National has tried to differentiate itself from the government but it has been farcical. We have had Chris Bishop saying “You are not vaccinating fast enough. Get boosted.” And now Luxon is saying “End restrictions sooner.” It is incoherent.
    
    National went along with Jacinda’s “Use the vaccines to stamp COVID out like measles”. Probably the most stupid thing she has ever said.

      I haven’t had time to think about it seriously yet, but how is it possible that 120 representatives in Parliament have apparently suffered from group think over the last 2 years? Many “amateurs” were seeing problems with the narrative and trying to raise concerns, they were smeared and vilified and ridiculed, particularly by mainstream media. How is it possible that not a single MP represented these people?
      The chilling thing is that we now know all parties colluded in refusing to speak to protesters at Parliament. That is North Korean. That is not democracy. That is truly concerning.

        I would like to think I had some insight but to me it is inexplicable. My working hypothesis is that their daily life became such that they were truly cocooned unlike the rest of us and were truly terrified the protesters would infect them. We never suffered that fear as we had to be out in the world to survive.
        
        Richard Prebble taught me to greet every protest no matter how threatening and to listen to everyone no matter how idiotic I thought their views. As he explained, they have a vote and you might learn something. At very least, you will learn what someone else is thinking. Preb is very wise.

        My view. Two years ago the mainly western world was confronted with something new to it, and with many unknowns. So initiated ‘don’t just stand there, do something’. That was the right thing at the time as there were so many unknowns. And decision makers had once-were-experts right in their faces.
        
        New Zealand was no different, and Opposition parties had little choice but to nail their colours to the same mast.
        
        Time passed, eventually accompanied by a passionate tsunami of information – experts, conspiracies, opinions, media, interpretations, good, bad, ugly, changing daily.
        
        Not really possible for minority parties in a tiny country at the bottom of the world to stand against the overwhelming local narrative. I don’t blame them, but at least some of our representatives should have walked and talked with the protesters, in Wellington and around the country
        
        I don’t understand why that didn’t happen.
        
        But now it is time for ‘don’t just stand there, undo something’.

        Classic example is in Tauranga,they can no longer even elect their local council.This by government decree!
        And politicians refused to meet protesters.

        artemisia – yes the world was confronted with something different and with lots of unknowns, but one does not simply ditch carefully thought out and frequently updated plans on how to manage such pandemics – and then later claim most of the mismanagement with the new plans was because we were learning as we went along. Anyone with some basic knowledge of epidemiology, virology, immunology, vaccinology and of the principles and practice of medicine should have seen through this “new plan” from day one. The National Party surely has competent medical advisors they can get reasoned opinion from and not have to rely on media hysteria or politicised medical advice out of the USA.
        
        It is time to do something – and that is to expose the fraud and the lies, listen to those who have been harmed and promise to help. This is more than rebuilding a destroyed economy and will have to include rebuilding trust in the government and the medical profession, helping the vaccine injured, supporting families that lost loved ones, jobs and businesses, opening up our society again and breaking down those divisions between our people that Jacinda so carefully constructed.

    Caught it from my vaccinated wife, who got it from her vaccinated and boosted staff, who got it from a vaccinated customer.
    
    We had to close the business and self isolate for 10 days, everybody had light to mild flu symptoms for 3 to 5 days.
    
    I had the lightest and fastest recovery of everyone.
    
    This is definitely a pandemic of the vaccinated.
    
    There should be a wide ranging royal commission into the most damaging economic and social crisis in our countries history.
    
    Worse we did it to ourselves.
    
    This must never ever be allowed to happen again.
    
    When people quote death rates, of people WITH covid, around the world, ask why if it was so bad have average mortality rates not moved significantly, especially in relation to the economic and social costs.
    
    The country’s that have fared the worst are controlled by socialists, they grabbed power and are trying to consolidate it.
    
    What we have here is the most woke, weak, ineffective opposition ever,

    Probably correct, we likely avoided about 10000 deaths (2000 per million typical Covid deaths for western countries), with median age of ~80, maybe up to 100000 QALYs (quality of life years) saved (though likely a lot less), for something like several $million per QALY given enormous cost to NZ of elimination strategy. For comparison Pharmac will only fund drugs at about 40-200k per QALY – pointing to the woeful economic choice made by Labour.
    
    Far worse (internationally) was the banning and FUD campaigns and simple non-promotion of cheap drugs and mitigations that would have reduced deaths – Ivermectin, Vit D, losing weight etc.

      To suggest we likely avoided 10,000 deaths from Covid is utter garbage, and peddling the Stalinda line. With our geographical isolation, very low population density and remoteness from the rest of the world, I would suggest we may have saved 1,000 lives.
      In the 2008-9 Mers (I think) epidemic, we kept things normal & simple. 800,000 caught the ‘flu, and we suffered about 35 deaths. We have had other epidemics in the past with nothing like what you state.

    Many share your pessimism. Some very decent kiwis I know, many with Eastern European backgrounds (funnily enough…), have fled, or are in the process of fleeing.
    
    Some, like myself, are unable due to family circumstances. A large percentage though, seem still under the MSM/”experts” spell.
    
    Our politicians are clearly not leaders, they simply follow and react to the Polls. The Polls appear largely influenced by the media/”experts”. And the media/”experts” are clearly funded by the Politicians.
    
    This appears to have lead to a type of totalitarianistic control over the general population not seen before in Western countries.
    
    How do we stop/reduce this from happening again? Well, stopping the funding to MSM/”experts” is one way, if possible. But the better, more liberal way is to simply stop watching MSM and watch/read alternative sites (and use a VPN for god’s sake…) which is what I did several years ago.

        Exactly. The problem with getting rid of Ardern and Labour, is that you get Luxon and National. “Least worse” is a pretty low bar. It’s the illusion of choice, and only a political “revolution” will get us on the right track. The good news is that the worse things get, the less people will have to lose, so the more likely they are to demand, and be the agents of, real change instead of window dressing.

        Give us just one example of Luxon being or mirroring Ardern, and don’t bother with the protesters crap, he has stated since December 1 mandates and passes should be gone, he was made leader the day before, he says 3 Waters will be gone, there will be no laws for a few, he says there will be no separatist agenda, he says money going to Māori must be targeted instead of giving that money to a few Māori elite, same with social money, it must be targeted not just handed out, what planet are people on yo say he is the same as the worst pm in history, I just do not get it.

  One of my major disappointments has been the manner in which the Catholic Church has so whole- heartedly embraced segregation by separating congregations according to vaccination status and, at my church, stationing guards at the entrance to enforce the rules. Dissidents like me have been publicly admonished by the priest to go home and not attend mass if the apartheid rules make me ‘grumpy’! The sooner the mandates, masks and passes go the better.

    Completely agree Nuku. At least at my parish in Mt.Maunganui, our P.P has kept some sanity by establishing a separate room for those who are unvaxxed (he calls it ‘undocumented) to go to, and can still attend Mass.
    But our bishops are the problem – they caved to the government straight away, and pedalled the same bullshit – masks – vaccine – vaccine passes. It is shameful IMO. They seem to forget the separation of Church & State – the state has no juridiction over the Church. The Church merely needs to comply with the secular requirements – not religious. Yet they agreed to lock up churches & force separation of congregations.

    The council is not dysfunctional, oldfella. There is no case, yet, to disband it. (See sections 258 to 258M of the Local Government Act 2002, here: https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2002/0084/167.0/DLM170873.html, and in particular, section 258B, Minister may appoint Crown observer.)
    
    A member (which includes the mayor) can be ousted from office under Schedule 7, clause 2, of the Local Government Act 2002, here: https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2002/0084/latest/DLM175643.html, but it is very difficult to pull off. As I understand it, the council has chosen not to go down that road with respect to Mayor Tim.
    
    I would be astonished if he is re-elected in October.

  Speedway’s on tonight, and we’ll have 400 people there, sitting in four fenced off areas at the four corners of the track. We’ve got room for 7000 at a crush, so there’s plenty of room for them to spread out. We’re the only speedway in the southern half of the North Island to have run since the country went red, so we had to close off competitor entries a week ago. It’s a glorious autumn day, where we could have a bumper crowd of people enjoying a night’s racing, but we’re grateful for what we CAN do in the meantime. It’s safe to say however that there’s not a lot of love for Jacinda in the speedway/motorsport communities, which have traditionally been the domain of working class people; people who twenty years ago would have been lifelong Labour voters.

There’s a sob story on Stuff this morning about a 91 year old life-long Labour voter who claims he can’t afford meat or to heat his heavily subsidised State house. There’s no detail of his circumstances, just a plea for $100 a week extra. Or he’ll vote for another party. After a life of socialism he appears to be getting what he’s voted for – and now wants everyone else to give him another handout! Of course he might have had terrible luck or be a war hero but you’d think a journalist (fat chance) might have mentioned that if it was so. I wonder if his alternative party is the Maori one?

Interesting case in the the District Council refused to continue processing waste water, the Organic Dairy Manufacturer attempted to remedy the situation so District Council would continue but failed. Then the Regional Council refused emergency consent to irrigate (“dump”) the wastewater to farmland leaving the company apparently forced to do so without consent.
No environmental harm was caused but total fines of nearly $80k because environmental harm may have been caused. Potential adverse effects is drawing a long bow and could cover an extraordinary large number of activities.
The company which received 4.9 million funding from Shane Jones PGF ceased processing milk in December.
I can’t tell from the story about what the capacity of management in the company is, but it’s appears the councils involved didn’t go out of their way to help find solutions.

  Behind this and many other such issues is how bureaucrats have written themselves rules that have no actual adverse impact and then force the elected councillors to impose them. In this case there was no actual problem but the company got fined for a “potential” problem. Like someone would have to drink a whole lot of the discharge for the “potential” problem to become a real problem. That was never going to happen but some grubby little rule maker went home happy that he had made a difference”.

    I would guess the waste included a fair amount of milk, whether as a byproduct of some production lines, or as part of cleaning procedure, or spoiled product, treated by some primary process.
    I would be surprised if the e coli levels were a hundredth of the level in Farm Dairy Effluent which the farm in question likely had consent to apply to land.

  I get what you’re saying about “business-as-real-world-experience,” but it also a very myopic view. Dollars and cents are one thing, but not everything. Better than student politicians, though. It’s not necessarily a binary comparison, but I’d like a leader who knows about the world from personal experience, but who also is well versed in the wisdom of the ages through history, philosophy, classics and the like (i.e. a deep-thinking, wise and educated man), rather than some shallow, bland CEO type who focusses on the balance sheet while the culture goes down the toilet (John Key and Christopher Luxon spring to mind: competent, but hardly penetrating intellects). One of the better questions you can ask of a leader is “what books have you read in the last year?” It is imperative that a leader has a good grasp on how we got where we are, and the necessity of maintaining those elements within man and in society.

Parents of school age children need to be aware. Attendance at a New Zealand public school should come with a mental health warning.
Your local school will be offering three streams of learning designed by social change activists in our government all of which could cause mental harm to children.
These are:
1. InsideOUT is an organisation working in schools to normalise LBTQIA.
2. The Climate change curriculum designed to scare the shit out of children with made up stories about future climate catastrophes.
3. The new history curriculum designed to engender white guilt among the pakeha kids and resentment among the Maori kids.
Mrs Rocky’s hairdresser for one is seriously worried about her daughter because of her anxiety about climate change. She is involved in her school’s climate activist group.
Our government is cannibalising our children in order to remake our society.
My advice to every parent is to talk with your school principal, go over the content of this material and take your child out if you think it is as I set out.
One day, someone in a University will do a study on the effect of these streams of learning on our children. Of course it won’t happen.

The great nickel short …

Heavy selling of nickel continued on the London Metal Exchange yesterday, with the three-month contract falling by the new trading limit, 12 per cent, at the end of two tumultuous weeks of trading touched off by Xiang Guangda’s Tsingshan Group Holding Company struggling to meet margin calls on a short position that bet on the metal price falling.

Nickel rose 250 per cent to more than $US100,000 a tonne on the LME at the beginning of last week, and trading was halted, and resumed only on Wednesday of this week. The LME set the contracts’s last closing price before the suspension at $US48,078 a tonne, still nearly double its level from the previous week.

The LME installed a maximum trading range (price change) of 5 per cent on reopening trading on Wednesday of this week. It widened this to 8 per cent for Thursday, and then to 12 per cent yesterday, and effective from next Monday, 15 per cent.

Xiang was betting on the metal price falling, was trapped, but Tsingshan announced it had reached a deal with banks to finance the margin calls. With this, the LME this week lifted the suspension of nickel trading.

Nickel oped at $US36,915 a tonne at yesterday’s opening. Bloomberg says this brought LME’s nickel price “a little closer” to nickel futures contracts in Shanghai, which continued to trade.

London sales contracts are now being offered on tens of thousands of tonnes of the metal, suggesting further prices falls are coming. Yesterday’s London price suggests Xiang’s liability has falled from $US7 billion of $US8 billion to perhaps $US2 billion to $US 3 billion.

The turmoil in the nickel market, in addition to loss of supply from Russia, has caused turmoil to big producers, notably of batteries and stainless steel.

Magpies, Australian magpies, tend to get a bad rap in New Zealand. They’re not indigenous, you know, and they chase away other birds and dive-bomb posties on bikes and dog walkers.

The New York Times is praising the magpies as one of the cleverest birds on Earth.

It cites an Australian experiment in which tracking devices were attached by harnesses to magpies.The scientists spent six months developing the harnesses. They thought the would be near-impossible to remove.

The first tracker was off within 30 minutes. The newspaper’s description.

In a remarkable act of cooperation, the magpie wearing the tracker remained still while the other magpie worked at the harness with its beak. Within 20 minutes, the helping magpie had found the only weak point — a single clasp, barely a millimeter long — and snipped it with its beak. Dr. Potvin and her team later saw different magpies removing harnesses from two other birds outfitted with them.
The scientists took six months to reach this point. Within three days, the magpies had removed all five devices.

Dominique Potvin was the lead scientist.

In Christchurch, some people hate, or fear, magpies because some dive on you like a Stuka if you come near the nest in spring time. I like them despite, or perhaps because of, their “Hey you, bugger off!” character.

      You’re right, I don’t believe anyone died solely “from covid”. Like any seasonal respiratory illness, it made other conditions worse and in some cases pushed people over the edge.
      The IFR is 0.15%. The average age of death with covid is higher than the “normal” average age of death. Those who died almost always have multiple serious comorbidities. These are all facts. Call it flu, call it covid, call it SARS or MERS. It’s a viral, seasonal condition that makes other conditions more serious. It contributes to the death of those suffering from other conditions.
      
      Many died “with” covid. Not so many “from” covid.

  Um, they don’t mention the 10s of millions of deaths in the third world directly caused by 1st world lockdowns and restrictions (IE not caused by covid itself). And those 3rd world deaths were predicted from the outset by a number of economists. At the beginning of the pandemic smart arses boasting of their credentials tried to tell me this was unlikely to happen due to people living longer as a result of the 1929 great depression (ie because of having less food and therefore having less obesity/diabetes related lethal illness and so on).     Last September I had a car broken into. Called the police on crime reporting number, was asked a few questions and was told that the incident will not be attended too as it is of a “minor nature” and advised to inform my insurance. Not expecting anything else I secured the broken window, cleaned the broken glass etc. Then, after about an hour or so, a police officer knocked on my door. We had a chat, he’d taken some fingerprints and when I said that I was told that nothing could be done, he said something to this effect: “these wankers up north don’t know what they are talking about, we always attend such incidents”.   Been tempted to look back 2-3 years ago to see who the critics were of Simon Bridges (then Nat. leader) who was calling for a Police “Raptor Squad” to be setup to deal with hardened criminals.
  
  (Be ironic if it were Labour MP’s – especially as gang violence has escalated under their watch)!
  
  Anyway, the Parliament Protests did prove that there are Police officers out there that don’t mind indulging in a bit of thuggery, so perhaps it makes sense to harness this “energy” (? – can’t think of a better word atm) and have the Police setup special units (raptor squads or whatever) that can be deployed to places like eg Kaikohe (that had that gang confrontation a couple of days ago) for a few days to booster and assist the local Police teams (which are probably only a handful anyway) and do to the gangs (the only thing that they respect) which is to confront and smash them!

I see Ardern’s resident “expert” Michael Baker is demanding that control measures become permanent.

Why was there such a ‘hue and cry’ about right-wing and overseas influences during the Parliamentary Protests.
Was the reference to overseas supported, Qnon and Trump etc. necessary to make the Protest right-wing.
Otherwise, if it was Anti-Vaccination, it was local with a strong Green connection and therefore left-wing.
This would make it New Zealand’s first violent protest by left-wing voters against a left-wing government.
Our nation-wide protests involving serious rioting were –
1913 Waterfront Strike
1951 Waterfront Strike
1981 Springbok Tour protest
All had a left (wharfies) versus right (employers/exporters) element.
The Springbok Tour was National (Muldoon) against a left-wing lead protest.
So, as the Curia survey showed, this was the first time a left-wing government has suppressed, with force, a largely left-wing protest.

Government prescription won’t cure health system
I thought this was a good summary of what’s in store for us.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for an improvement in health services from the middle of this year when the reforms take effect. Many highly experienced observers believe they will achieve next to nothing.
That’s because the reforms involve the same people giving themselves new jobs in huge new entities, probably at higher pay, with nothing else changing. The usual suspects will continue to dream up new ways of telling medical staff, hospitals and private practices what to do in the time-honoured top-down way.
There is nothing you can point to that will improve patient care, nor even a funding formula. Just lots of shallow statements about “fixing the health system”. Oh, and a half-billion-dollar-and-counting price tag.
It was ever thus. Incessant rounds of reforms at the top of the system end up leaving the same people in charge and no plan to improve patient care.
It’s enough to make a frontline health worker weep with frustration.

A thought on 3 Waters.
Who has had any contact lately with any firm that is largely a telephone/net contactable source.
Remember when you could contact a local office, instantly talk to a person, explain what you wanted and organise the required action.
If anything went wrong, you could go into their office and at least know who you were dealing with and where to contact them.
Not any more, the automated telephone system, the wait for your turn or perhaps they will ring you back when it suits them.
If everything goes well that’s great.
If, however, things get complicated ……….

I speak to someone on the phone who promises it will be sorted this time if I email all correspondence to them. Just had another threatening letter from them telling me I’ve ignored them. The other problem is, one of the people in the photo tweeted out that the photo was from Iraq from 17 years ago and he is very much alive. How stupid is mainstream media becoming???

Is the Labour/Green obsession with spending hundreds of millions of dollars on urban cycleways somewhat outdated and old-fashioned now?

I wondered that the other day when a young person came flying past on an e-scooter.

Hadn’t been a fan of them but I am now seeing more young and older people using them and if one thinks about it, it’s a more efficient way to travel than using a cumbersome bicycle (eg it’s easy to fold up the e-scooter and carry it inside one’s workplace, or even onto public transport when required etc).

So instead of spending hundreds of millions of dollars taking out car lanes (and roadside parking) for bicycles, would it be better to halt all urban bike lane developments and perhaps spend on perhaps widening footpaths where possible?

(May need some speed limits for e-scooters though).

Another advantage is that it won’t cost as much but best of all, councils will be forced to spend money upgrading footpaths.

I know of people that have tripped over uneven or damaged footpaths and were laid up for weeks due to ankle and soft tissue injuries.

Perhaps something for National and ACT to consider?

Certainly would appeal to younger people that aren’t bicycle fanatics!

Some outfit called the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre is working hard to convince us that ONLY 11 percent of hospital admissions for COVID, have had their Booster jabs.
On Thursday’s Newshub it was Dr. Andrew Old, Clinical Officer. On Friday’s OneNews it was the turn of Dr. Anthony Jordan.

Problem is, that number doesn’t square with the
numbers on the Ministry of Health website.

I looked at the hospitalization numbers given for Unvaccinated, Partially vaxxed, Double vaxxed, and Boosted, from Tues-Thu.

Of the COVID patients in Northern Region hospitals (with a known vaxx status), the ‘Boosted’ are 38 percent — that’s the 3-day average.

So, 38% versus 11%. Can anyone suggest a legitimate reason for the disparity?

The other groups are:
Unvaxxed = 19%.
Partial or Double vaxxed = 43%.

By the way, the ‘unknowns’ are 10-12% compared to those with a known Vaxx Status.
It’s not fair to include them in the denominator — I wouldn’t do it — unless someone was on my back to “make Boosting sound better!”.
It still would only change the 38% to 34%.

Ardern needs to do something soon to save this area. LIKE IMMEDIATELY. Let the cruise ships in, international tourism and international students. Do this now Jacinda. Be brave! Not in a months time. These businesses and organisations need help NOW.

The way Ardern’s behaving is akin to the West telling Zelensky ‘to just hang in there for another month and we will come and save you…’. Yeah right.
