Well, this looks awkward for the officials to explain away:

Lockdowns, Covid controlled, no influenza, WITH VACCINES: 34,932 deaths

An increase of 2,319 deaths in 2021, “the year of the vaccine”

The argument made is that 2019 was a very soft year for deaths, and the 2021 figure represents only a small increase over the 2019 year.

However, I would argue that the conditions that lead to the low deaths in 2020 were still present in 2021 – lockdowns, Covid controlled, no influenza etc. And a 2,319 increase in deaths year-on-year does seem extraordinary.

The only major difference I can see in 2021 was vaccine rollout. But as always I’m open to considering views from the community here on other possible explanations…

  The numbers need to be broken down more. Underlying medical conditions (with and without Covid). Shootings, suicides, family violence, vehicle accidents (broken down further into car, truck, motorbike, cyclist, insecure loading)

    Population aging will be a factor. Most of the numbers gurus I follow work this into their models. But it will be pretty small on a year by year basis, and certainly not enough to explain all of this delta.

      Surely the relevant government department must have a handle on all of the different parameters so that useful conclusions could be drawn by the experts who derive their conclusions from what is known?

      Very interesting. I wasn’t aware of the extent to which we have already had “by Maori, for Maori” primary health care provision for 20 years. Or that the Waitangi Tribunal has investigated why Maori health outcomes haven’t shifted as expected, but won’t release the results because they are “sensitive”.
      
      This is the sort of thing an independent media should be all over, since it suggests the current “re-organisation” has nothing to recommend it at all.

        I’m sure there are many efficiencies to be made across 25 DHBs, however the division across ethnic lines in this reorganisation of the precious little health care resources that NZ has will only impact negatively on system capacity and capability for everyone.
        By example ask any Chef what would happen if they were challenged to deliver two distinctly different services with the same/ similar resources. Now ask them to deliver it 24/7. This will likely be disastrous for everyone, Maori included.

    Not plausible. Your risk of death rises by about 10% a year, so unless the average age of the elderly population suddenly rose by 8 months over the course of a year, it could not come anywhere near to explaining 2300 extra deaths.

      There appear to have been similar drops then rebounds in previous years … eg. 2000, 2005, 2010 … maybe not to the same degree but it still shows this isn’t an unusual occurrence. And if there a drop in deaths in one year then it stands to reason there will be an increase the next. Those oldies can only hold on so long …

        The problem with that displaced death theory is that the excess deaths were only during the 6month long covid vaccine period for older/at risk people, April-October ’21, abruptly cutting off either side and it wasn’t respiratory illnesses (which are tracked), which are the form of excess death that is variable and which shows up in the winter months in question, otherwise the excess deaths would have steadily climbed prior to winter period.

    In 1991 16.5% of 75+ died
    in 2019 10.5% of 75+ died
    in 2021 <10% of 75+ died
    
    So not a direct correlation between 75+ increased pop and deaths.

    Interestingly enough, no we’re not aging. Currently our annual death rate per year is around 1 in 130. More babies are born than people die each year.
    Government intervention will play a very big part in the rising death rate. The reality is that anything this government touches always turns to shit.

  One possibility of course, is that when we go into lockdown a lot of diagnostic medicine goes into hiatus. If you can’t go to the doctor, or they can’t get you screened or scanned, your condition may not be diagnosed and treated as it otherwise would.

        No, in this case there have been almost exclusively losers – including the old and infirm who had the quality of life stripped from their last few months of life by being forced to live in seclusion.
        
        In 2020, I was a newly stamped heart patient and had a a bunch of heart checkups cancelled, then rescheduled 4 months later. As a result I was kept on nasty expensive meds for an extra 4 months.
        
        That wasn’t too bad. While I was waiting for my son to pick me up, I had a brief chat with someone far worse off than me. The delay had resulted in cancer getting away from them and him just being told his previously expected 5 years to live had been clipped to less than 2 years.

    Dear Mods. My apologies if my comment appeared to be “vaccine conspiracy”, but as I understand it, the articles referenced, and their basis, were reports on the statistics published by the governments of NZ, Germany and the USA. All show an alarming increase in “all cause mortality” not related to covid-19 itself.
    
    I believe there is a genuine reason to have a discussion about these observed and now officially published statistics, without it being written off as “a conspiracy”. The fact that insurance companies, who have to pick up the tab in many cases, are now showing concern shows the legitimacy of the discussion:

  Yes, the population is aging. Just look at the boomer wave.
  
  The boomers are a demographic wave that has propagated though the population with time:
  * Late 50s, early 60s they were babies.
  * In the 60s/70s they went to school creating more demand for schools.
  * In the 80s they got married and there was a boom in demand for wedding dresses and houses for young families.
  * And now that wave is entering the end of life zone and we’re seeing a surge in demand for retirement villages, end of life care and increased deaths.
  
  But apart from that it is statistically broken to just compare one year against another. There are a lot of things which can cause fluctuations from one year to another.

  Yes, but it might make a lot of difference for businesses who are looking to do forward planning, update their policies, roster on more staff etc; or for people trying to make decisions. Yet again, this bunch of incompetents only think about themselves.

      I read that from Seymour. I’m frankly stunned that anyone still thinks masks are of any benefit. Wear one if if you want, but it’s no more benefit than changing the colour of your socks. It MIGHT help with normal bugs but ffs, that’s what your immune system is for.
      Are we really advocating moving to a situation where we all hide and avoid social interactions because we might get sick???? What’s the point of living???

        Clan: I had dinner with someone recently who believes from now on we should wear masks the second we get a cold. Reason: Because they’ve been doing it for years in Japan and China. And clearly it works and is polite. She totally believes in the masking of us all in these great Covid times. I just couldn’t talk to her about the reality. I even offered to send her that video where Cindy, Michelle Dickinson and a woman from the MoH are all sitting around telling us what a waste of time they are and why.   Boosters are a desperate attempt to repeat the same action (jabbing) and expecting a different result (it’s really gonna work this time).
  
  If they really want the passport to mean something then they should look at alternatives that are out there and are known to help.
  
  For example they could look at Vit D levels. To get a passport you need to have high enough Vit D levels. This is in no way controversial.
  
  Also, they could look at obesity. To get a pass your BMI has to be less than 40. Again, not controversial.
  
  There’s far more to improving your CV19 chances than just getting a third jab of a “vaccine” that didn’t work the first two times.

    I read somewhere (but never checked) that Jaspinda has a staff of 75.
    
    What bet that at least half of those are full-time engaged at present in making coherent ‘soup waffle waffle’ for her Wednesday pronoucement.

Higher standard needed for History
The new history curriculum, announced last week, will become a tool for dividing New Zealanders, with its clear focus on two types of citizenship.

With a failing education system producing shameful outcomes in literacy, numeracy, and even attendance, this Government continues to evade accountability by distracting New Zealanders with ideology.

Although originally scheduled for introduction to schools at the beginning of 2022, there was a range of criticism, including the strong influence of ideology and the complete omission of many important aspects of our history, which caused a 12 month delay. The delay was defended by Education Minister Chris Hipkins.

“The feedback the Ministry received was wide-ranging, clear, and at times confronting. New Zealanders have a lot to say about how our nation’s histories should be examined and discussed, and that is a good thing,” Chris Hipkins said.

The new curriculum requires students to make “informed ethical judgement(s) about people’s actions”. Making ethical judgement is not the role of history and the question must be asked as to who defines “ethical”.

Analysis of the curriculum shows the strong influence of separatist ideology. This will do little to reduce division or encourage unity. ACT’s education spokesperson Chris Baillie expressed valid concerns about the curriculum.

“…Labour is trying to make New Zealand an unequal society on purpose. It believes there are two types of New Zealanders. Tangata Whenua, who are here by right, and Tangata Tiriti who are lucky to be here. We should be learning the history of our multi-ethnic society.”

New Zealanders – heal thyself
Funding of $22 million has been announced for the Maori Health Authority, which is being established under the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Bill, even though the Bill is still with the Select Committee.

Despite not yet being law, the chairs of both Health New Zealand and the Maori Health Authority have been appointed.

Supporting the announcement of the funding, the chair of Health New Zealand, Rob Campbell, criticised our current health system as being “dominated by monocultural thinking and approach”.

Rather than encouraging a colour-blind health system, he appears comfortable with the provision of health services differentiated by race.

The creation of two health systems involves a hugely expensive and unnecessary bureaucracy but, more importantly, entrenches racial separatism in New Zealand.

Health Minister, Andrew Little, confirms this in his statement that “the proposal wasn’t for two different systems – but for one system with two partners who will have to agree.”

The question needing an answer is: Where do those in need of healthcare turn when the two partners do not agree?

The health sector does need reform, but this reform should not, under any circumstances, start with division by race and add layers of bureaucracy that effectively delivers a power of veto by one group over the entire health system.

Steven Joyce’s endorsement of the need for health reform accurately captures the problems with when he observes: “Many highly experienced observers believe they will achieve next to nothing. That’s because the reforms involve the same people giving themselves new jobs in huge new entities, probably at higher pay, with nothing else changing.”

Contrary to oft-repeated claims, there is simply no evidence that the present system fails Maori, as Dr Lawrie Knight has convincingly shown in his testimony before the Select Committee.

Co-governance destroys democracy
Maori Development Minister Willie Jackson tried to reassure New Zealanders that they have nothing to fear from 50/50 co-governance. But in reality, co-governance is totally inconsistent with any concept of democracy and Labour knows it

This was clearly evident in comments made during submissions on the Canterbury Regional Council (Ngai Tahu Representation) Bill.

Tamati Coffey, a Labour List MP who failed to win the Maori electorate seat for Waiariki at the last election, nonetheless still believes he is entitled to speak for Maori. In his capacity as chair of the Select Committee dealing with the Bill, he stated: “The Westminster system is over for NZ – it prolongs the tyranny of the majority”. His comment was further endorsed by the co-leader of the Maori Party, Rawiri Waititi, who stated “Maori will never be equal in a democracy.”

As the competition for the Maori vote heats up, Willie Jackson seems keen to demonstrate Labour is the best option, explaining they “are not obsessive like the Maori Party.”

The Maori Party leaders describe themselves as being the only “Tiriti-centric” political party and have stated categorically that they will not go into coalition with any political party, unless that party shares their interpretation of the Treaty.

Hobson’s Pledge launched a campaign to tell National that New Zealanders want their democracy protected and do not want any future National-led Government to abandon democracy by forming a coalition with such an anti-democratic party.

Silencing the majority
Tragically, our democracy is being criticised by many of our elected representatives – Willie Jackson, Tamati Coffey, Debbie Ngawera-Packer and Rawiri Waititi to name just four – despite their being elected by the very system they condemn. The co-governance solution is really a path to tribal rule, destined to benefit the tribal elite, but unlikely to be of the slightest benefit to most Maori.

The failure of co-governance is already evident in situations like the Ureweras where, despite taxpayer funding and agreements with the Crown, the park has been left in disrepair.

The obligation on the Crown to represent all New Zealanders equally before the law is increasingly ignored. Private citizens are forced to defend the interests of the public for the benefit of future generations. Evidence of this can be seen at:

Coalition of Landowners with the appeal against the quite extraordinary decisions of the Court as a result of cases brought under the Marine and Coastal Area Act
Gulf Users Group
Water Users Group in the efforts to stop the wholesale theft of the water assets from ratepayers.
And it has taken legal action by private citizens to defend the exotic trees which the co-governed Tupuna Maunga Authority had marked for execution in Auckland. That legal action has provided a stay of execution for 345 exotic trees on the public reserve of Mt Albert. The Court of Appeal decision of 3 March 2022, determined there had been a lack of consultation.

Unfortunately three of Auckland’s mountains had already lost their beautiful trees before private citizens stepped in to protest the action.

Despite their defeat in the Court, the Authority has already inferred they are considering next steps to allow them to proceed with their clear-felling of exotic trees.

This agenda is driven by a motivation to “de-colonise” the volcanic cones by replacing all exotic trees with native trees. But rather than a managed process of planting replacement trees in consultation with the community, the Authority simply decided that the trees represented “colonisation” and needed to be removed immediately.

      Sounds like she may have learnt from her last big announcement/cockup about dropping 25 cents a litre from petrol and diesel RUC from midnight IIRC. Petrol worked but when I checked last night on LTSA website RUC had not changed. A bit more complicated evidently. Probably worthwhile noting that responsibility for passing the decrease on to the end user for petrol rested largely with the Private sector. The RUC with the Govt.

        Given I am a keen driver I watched the press conference on that at the time. It was specifically mentioned that RUC would come later as there are 100+ charges and rates to calculate and re-do. They apparently will still get a full three months though.
        
        Oh and also, there hasn’t been an LTSA since 2008 so well done on finding it on that defunct website ? (kidding, I know you meant NZTA)

The Government want us to believe that the only reason we are encountering high levels of inflation is events offshore. Once again the media are compliant with Stuffed running an article confirming our dear leader’s call.

The truth is that over hal;f the inflationary pressure we are now experiencing is generated internally. The Government’s own rampant spending, the Reserve Bank and Robbo shovelling more money into the economy and then failing to put the brakes on early enough.

The reality is that Orr and his lightweights (they removed any experience and wisdom) are out of their depth. Orr is more about optics than reality. We are going to pay a high price for the decision to put Orr in charge.

  Is it really a good deal for a “vulnerable person” to hide under their bed for 2 years and counting?
  
  The average “stay” in a an old age home is 18 months. ie. the last 18 months of your life.
  
  You can choose to:
  A) Hide under your bed and hope the gremlins pass you by and pretend that you’re having a great last 18 months of your life.
  B) Choose to make the most of the last 18 months, taking a few precautions but generally not letting things interfere.
  C) Somewhere in between A and B according to your personal choices.
  
  Forcing people to go the “A” route has not saved anyone. Instead it has forced them to throw away the last years of their life.

Sit in a comfortable chair and put your hands together in a ‘prayer like position’ . Cross your thumbs. Intermingle your fingers then extend the index fingers till they are almost parallel. Stare at the space between the fingers and you will notice that the fingers start to move together. When they touch just close your eyes and take a deep breath in. As you slowly breathe out you will feel very relaxed. When you have relaxed enough just open your eyes.

I was reminded last night by a colleague about the Conference we attended in Rotorua.
Sponsored by one of the worlds leading Pharmaceutical companies.
We were put up in what was at the time the city’s top Hotel…. views out over the lake, international restaurant, goodie-bags left on our beds.
The organisers suggested it would be safer if we all stayed in the Hotel at night rather than venturing out.
On the Sunday just as we were preparing to leave, it was discovered that at least 8 cars had been broken into in the secure carpark.

That was in 1998. I’ve never been back since.
Seems nothing much has changed?

  What she’s saying is without substance (evidence). At present, it’s just words from a third party(s) (hearsay).

    Nobody has a clue how many have died in Ukraine so not sure why you would ask me? I do know if Ukraine had abided by the Minsk Accord they signed in 2014 then the 14,000 people who have died from Ukrainian attacks on Donbass wouldn’t be dead and Russia wouldn’t have invaded the country. So probably not many deaths at all.
    But they didn’t abide by the agreement and they did slaughter civilians over the last 8 years. The Russian response is not surprising.
    Now, do you want to talk about the illegal occupation of a third of Syria by the US and their support of Jihadists? What about Yemen? Oh, that’s “whataboutism” apparently and not permitted in the “official” narrative.

Protest inquiry – independent, but on our terms
Ardern said on Monday it was more appropriate for the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) to investigate the response to the 23-day protest against COVID-19 vaccine mandates that ended in a violent standoff with police earlier this month.

But of these two paragraphs –
“I think it would be important for us to look at the terms of reference before making a judgement as to whether or not everything that needed to be included, or that we would expect to be, is.

“The IPCA is independent and I think it’s important that we have an independent voice in this, particularly because of course, some of the complaints will be coming from those who were part of it, and so I think having the independence is an important part of it.”

I promised to share the response from Air NZ to my question about the silly requirement for international passengers to be vaxxed (especially in light of the fact that I have had covid and am more protected than anyone who has simply been vaxxed).

The response was: “At this stage, our policy has not altered around the need to be vaccinated. We are monitoring the situation and if appropriate, we may look to alter our policy, however, at this stage it does remain in place. Any updates will be provided on our website.”

The article talks about what happened in Canada with the trucker protests, however, we are not immune to the same behaviour. Recently have seen a person tweet that Kiwibank has frozen their bank accounts. No reason was given and the only thing the person thought they might have done “wrong” is donate to the convoy protest here. Also, during the protest, one of the protestors had his Kiwibank accounts frozen, but had them unfrozen after turning up to the bank with friends. Not sure what the situation is now with him.

What happens when a government is no longer required to do the very difficult, friction-filled work of finding people, writing tickets, arresting them, charging them, granting them due process, obtaining convictions, and jailing the guilty? When the government can bring a person’s practical participation in society to a standstill with the push of a button, it becomes silly to even talk about individual rights or due process. In the face of this new kind of push-button power, exercised at the whim of the governing party with zero legal oversight, individuals can simply be deleted from the system—even if, technically speaking, they are never charged with or convicted of a crime.

This happening now, quietly. But it is happening.

Short-play trapped nickel magnate Xiang Guangda and his bank supporters will be feeling easier this week.

Nickel contracts on the London Metals Exchange fell by the limit, 15 per cent, to $US31,389 a tonne, on trading overnight. This compares with the peak of more than $US100,000 on Monday March 7, as the price doubled in hours.

Xiang, founder and president of Tsingshang Holding Group, a large producer of stainless-steel grade nickel in China and Indonesia, is rumoured to based his play on a projected price of $US20,000 a tonne. This suggests Xiang’s liabilities on the trades may be down to a billion or two. At the peak price this month he was liable for $US8 billion or more, and international and Chinese banks had to help meet margin calls.

  But what you may not have heard is that the LME (the Exchange) *cancelled* (as in rolled back and made null and void) all the trades from one day!
  
  Unheard of for this to be done in bulk i think.
  
  Its hard to think of a more fundamental principal of trading that once a deal is made, its fixed in stone.

I recall reading an article yonks ago in Reades Digest – it was about ‘flirting’.

Fact is fliritng is an important social activity amongst we primates. It isn’t always sexual, in fact often it isn’t, but it adds a frisson to casual and other encounters.

Flirting is a wonderful means to make one’s day go quicker, and it provides us with an outlet for some of our more depressing sef-dialogues.

Reading this article years ago, had a profound impact. It necessarily sexual, and it is an important aspect of our anthropological make up.

Having this metacognitiove appreaciation of flirting in all its subtleties – has got me into all sorts of problems over the years.

Mostly with young women who never got the memo.

Just been on a short drive that took me passed a number of petrol stations.
Prices ranged from $2.51.9 to $2.57.9 with one lagging behind at $2.71.9.
In fact, one was $2.45.9 if you used their 6 cents discount system.
Most of the others were loyalty card prices.
That’s a lot of 25 cents missed by the government.

  There are about 5000 of the things flying and their crash rate is pretty low. From Wikipedia:
  
  “An analysis by Boeing of commercial jet airplane accidents in the period 1959–2017 showed that the Next Generation series had a hull loss rate of 0.17 per million departures compared to 0.71 for the classic series and 1.75 for the original series”
  
  That would make the NG planes way safer than previous 737s and pretty much the same as the hull loss rate for Airbus 4 Gen planes.

      Ah, yep Maggie. Something has gone catastrophically wrong for the plane to just go into a dive that steep. If its control surfaces are functioning, then the angle of attack can be controlled to a degree, by the pilots. It’s hard to see, but to me, it looks like it has inverted somehow. If the wings did come off, they could have come off from going past the never exceed speed and past the load rating for the wing.

Could NZ gangs be behind some sort of public relations drive?

It wouldn’t be surprising in a country that has a PR Prime Minister, and she will have an eye on the next election.

We have had Canterbury University sociologist Jarrod Gilbert writing about riding with motorcycle gangs, and now at Red Radio’s web site, a law academic from Auckland’s AUT writes about the proportion of people NZ police shoot dead compared with those killed by police in Britain.

It sounds like the old ” they should shoot to wound” bullshit, and “they need more training.”

It would be interesting to know if Britain and Scandinavia proportionately have NZ’s gangs problem, and whether their gangs are as violent as ours.

New Zealand police do not carry pistols except on “special occasions,” so the critics must be talking about NZ’s armed squads.

We posters on Kiwiblog criticise the police often, but think of this:

– The lightly armed police who took the Christchurch mosque terrorist alive, though he was heavily armed and was in a car carrying explosives.

– The young constables who patrol cities unarmed and, as in Auckland recently, sometimes are shot dead by criminals.

– The practicality of a shoot-to-wound policy. That would be difficult even for Olympic marksmen.

– Does Britain have such liberal, tut-tut sentences for violent offenders?

– Would NZ police have tracked and shot down the fleeing Brazilian in a London underground station as London police did.

– Above all, can we suspect that Ardern’s bought media are preparing a “reform the police shooters” campaign as a counter to voter anger and fear about gangs with a general election 18 months or so away?

  I will make the bold claim that I am one of very few on this blog for whom shooting people is anything other than an academic exercise.
  
  Shooting a person in the body is quite challenging and specifically shooting to wound is even more challenging. As you might expect, few people are passive, cooperative targets!
  
  Biden, and others, who think you can just shoot someone in the leg are clueless.
  
  Firstly a leg is a teenie, tiny target compared to the rest of the body. Damn hard to hit. More shots required. More collateral damage.
  Secondly, a shot in the leg is typically not a stopper. The person can continue with aggressive acts.
  Thirdly, there are plenty of places in a leg shot that can kill. eg femoral artery which can bleed out very quickly, so shooting in the leg is not always the healthy option on the menu.

      I saw that headline in the Herald the other day, just disgraceful. It used to be internationally that about one in five police shots hit their target for the reasons your friends have said. As you say, central body mass is the preferred option to incapacitate the threat. The NZ Police generally do a great job of protecting the public and themselves considering the limitations they have in dealing with firearms incidents knowing they will then be subject to months if not years of multiple investigations and trail by media and relatives.

  It’s been almost two years since Constable Mathew Hunt was killed and eleven years before that to the next officer killed on duty.
  I’m not minimizing these deaths, but they are not the regular occurrence you infer.

I would challenge anyone to disprove the linked methodology without resorting to personal attack (which is the obvious angle to take with it)

  That post doesn’t address the Elephant in the room at all. Of course mortality declined in ’20 and ’21 due to absence of respiratory viruses, that could be predicted by anyone even superficially aware of usual patterns and impacts of winter respiratory pathogens. But the critical issue that they don’t mention is why did excess deaths increase by ~2000 in ’21 vs ’20 when viruses were similarly absent both years., that’s a 6% increase year on year, 12% for the months in question, a pretty enormous increase. The only other substantive difference seems to be the covid vaccine program in 2021.

  Mortality declined in New Zealand largely at the cost of smothered economic activity.
  
  Road accidents, workplace accidents, and flu like viruses probably accounted for decline.
  
  What this doesn’t account for are preventable deaths which may still occur due to deferred diagnosis which could have a long tail.
  
  As well as post traumatic mental illness which may only manifest after a few years.
  
  It would be better to compare the excess deaths over a 10 year period alongside a country like Sweden which didn’t resort to severe lockdowns.
  
  Clever folk can then compare the 10 year average excess death, the GDP & Inflationary impact as well as the longevity lost due to the economic impact.
  
  I suspect there’s Nobel prize in economics for someone in analyzing this period of time.

      Only if those deaths represented lives shortened by years, rather than months.
      
      Many of the victims amongst the elderly were older than the average lifespan anyway.
      
      The key evaluation not be based on death stats, It will be based the economic cost of of extending a few lives by a few months vs the quality of life cost into the future of our children and whether their lives have been potentially shortened by more than the months we managed to save at huge economic cost.

  The decrease in excess deaths calculated in the blog piece you link to is based on a model of expected average deaths..
  
  With NZ, the estimated population is ~5.1 million, and per figure 1, the excess deaths is below ‘0’ (red dotted line) with -53.8 deaths per 100,000. This figure equates to 2,750 people in NZ not dying during the pandemic period relative to the expected numbers dying based on pre-pandemic estimates.
  
  So it’s a guesstimate of how many didn’t die.
  
  Whereas, if we go to the stats of deaths in NZ for 2020 and 2021
  we learn that the actual number of deaths in 2021 increased by 7.1% from the year before…

  There is more than sufficient cause to indict Biden in non-hyper-partisan times, but until the DNC want Biden gone nothing will be done. He would be toast after the rout expected in the midterms in 8 months, and is already within a gnats hair of being least popular post WWII president at this point in term.
  
  With only 8 months to go until midterms and the terribly publicity and drawn out nature of impeachment process it seems unlikely that DNC will push for impeachment. More likely I think that Biden will be told to resign at some point in next 8 months citing mental decline to avoid trial and we will get a Lame duck President Harris for the last 2 years of this presidency.

    The signs are there now the DNC is over Biden and Harris.
    The NY Times finally admitting the Lap top is real is a sign that Joes handlers might be getting tired of him.
    But how do they do it?
    Health? And first they need Harris to resign and replace her. That will be hard getting Senate approval from the Republicans given the 50/50 Senate. And if she resigns then her casting Vote is gone.

Just when (as others have, of course, noted) David Seymour coins the exact word to describe Arderns’ utterly frustrating delays, one hopes the fact she is being so openly mocked now for this, that yesterday’s announcement of tomorrow’s announcement will be the last.
She will be a mentally impervious to a millstone albatross if it is not –

– to which should be added the fact that Director-General of Health Dr Bloomfield has redefined “fully vaccinated“ as having three covid vaccine injections, but as of 9am this morning there have been 34,211 third primary doses; 2,556,753 booster doses, so a total of 2,590,964 third injections, so of the “team of 5 Million” that is 51.82 percent “fully vaccinated”, against the 90 percent “milestone” Ardern was forced to give a while back. So vaccination ~~targets~~ are kinda crap.

Meanwhile –

National are going to inherit a god forsaken mess across all of the portfolios. If we thought what the Key government had to clean up after the Clark era, the GFC, Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes was bad this is going to be a 100 times worse.

Our government is giving a company (Southern Fresh Foods) a lot of (our) money to trial an overseas indoor growing system “to ensure it can be adapted to local climatic conditions”.

I would have thought indoor climates would not be significantly different the world over. Isn’t that the point of indoors?

Also, if taxpayers are putting in 40% of the funding for the venture, what return are they getting? 40% of the profits? The money returned with (commercial rate) interest?

The UK did this to Germany. The USA did this to Japan. Sorry for the affected citizens but this is the horrible face of war.
