I’d guess the main points of interest are:

1. Are National capable of fucking up the selection process yet again?

2. Will Labour choose not to stand so as to not highlight the hammering they’ll get?

3. Will the Greens stand aside to avoid “splitting the vote”? Or will Labour?

4. Will ACT stand a candidate, and will they pull a massive vote based on their stand against co-governance? I wonder who Act would stand – I somehow imagine their existing Tauranga candidate might not be up to the attention, but conversely, I doubt Tauranga voters would love Brooke (who’d be the obvious choice) – both as a carpet bagger, and because she’s actually quite woke/liberal (I like her anyway). I also think Brooke’s not quite fluid enough yet/ready for that big stage.

  Rereading that last sentence, I should have proof read before posting, it’s a bit of a jumble. I meant to say:
  
  Act’s deputy and strongest performer other than Seymour is Brooke
  
  I really like her, she’s a classical liberal. But she also won’t have any truck with religious conservatism – she may not want special treatment for LGBTIQ, but equally she won’t support discrimination against them.
  
  I’m not sure that’d play well in Tauranga
  
  She’s also quite young and still growing. She’s done a few of the ACT videos, and she doesn’t speak fluidly and with conviction. Same when I’ve seen her in parliament. She just needs more experience and confidence to say what she thinks – which is a skill that Seymour has developed. You need to know when to just be honest, and when you’re about to step into a bear trap. She doesn’t know that yet, so she always hesitates, and that makes her look like she’s not on her game.
  
  And, of course, google is my friend. The Herald tells me that Cameron Luxton (note the T) was ACT’s candidate last election, and will be their candidate this time too.     Recall the fuck up Head Office (ultimately Peter Goodfellow) made of that candidate in Auckland. Was it Auckland Central? Handed it to the Greens on a plate. Ultimately they need a new party president who is competent. But until then, let’s just hope he manages to not fuck this up.
    
    The media tell me that Tania Tapsell might be a live candidate. That’d be super interesting. She’s young, personable, and Māori. The Tapsell name has instant recognition. I think she’d be at the wet liberal end of National, but she’d definitely put the cat among the pigeons.

      You should really do you’re homework, firstly, all parties have had plonkers stuff things up, i remember Labour with a guy that was in broadcasting doing dirty favours for Labour before the election, he was sacked, it happens, secondly, Tania Tapsell has already ruled out she will be standing in Tauranga, i hope she would stand , she is an awesome candidate, and her interview along side the racist Tutaki last week, shows just how good she is, he, (with his close links to the rotten Labour party) was nasty, vindictive, and very childish, his answer for her kicking his ass, was that Tania most probably will be the Nat candidate, she rolled her lovely eyes, and when asked by the interviewer at the end of the interview if she was running , she said who ever it is gets her best wishes, but it wont be her

        Whatever. Peter Goodfellow has well passed his use by date, and the cock up that was the Auckland Central pre-selection rests primarily on him.
        
        As I said, I hope they don’t manage to cock up Tauranga like they did that one, and make the whole story about how useless they are at selecting candidates, instead of the story being about policies and the actual candidates, and who would best represent Tauranga.
        
        For the last 4 years every time Labour are on the ropes National have managed to cock something up and make the story about them. Sure, the media are looking and waiting to make that story. But National keep giving them the rope they use to hang them. It’d be nice if this time they didn’t.

    I find it unlikely. She didn’t beat Simon Bridges in an election that swung heavily to Labour. By elections pretty much always swing against the government. And in the current environment, I’d expect more than usual. Unless the right manage to split the vote (quite possible with ACT being very popular), I’d expect an increased majority for National.

Tania Tapsell could be the candidate (and I believe a good one).

  Tania has ruled her self out in Tauranga twice now, she is a wonderful candidate, but for some reason she wants to be in Rotarua, its quite possible Todd McClay may resign at the election , he appears to have been pushed out of the pecking order, she would romp in in Rotarua

      She’d be a carpet bagger in Tauranga really. East coast was an electorate that I think made sense at the time, but her home is Rotorua. And Todd McClay has always seemed pretty useless to me, so Tania would likely be a massive improvement.

      Won’t be Muller, he is staying, I hope they don’t try and get Tania to stand in a Māori seat, because I don’t think she would win, she would be wasted, and with the cancer politicising of Kirk Allan, I think she will struggle in the east coast, but I say it again, I think Todd MClay may well not stand next time, she roils be a show in in Totarua, she roils have the motel scam in Totarua to push, you would almost think Labour are pushing these people to Rotarua to push up their vote, but I don’t think it will be enough, Tania scores 1000s more votes than the popular mayor, she roils piss in

Can anyone tell me why the Labour Party are allow to send me email telling me about the Taurunga seat and their candidate Jan Tinetti when I haven’t voted Labour for over 50 years i have sent a email back telling them I am not interested in their drivel or their politics and would never vote for them just like I did a week ago when they informed me how great they were in giving me a rise in my pension.i think it’s disgraceful that they are using my Covid details to to send me there junk mail and also asking for donations.
Surely there must be somewhere I can complain about this behavior.

      I’m presuming they don’t know who you voted for – we still have a secret ballot in this country. So whether you voted for them or not is irrelevant. There are many sources for mailing lists, and they usually have an unsubscribe button on the bottom. I suggest clicking it.

      He stood in Tauranga against Bridges once too often, got his ass handed to him, he came a miserable 3rd 20000 votes behind Bridges. He won’t stand if he thinks he will get humiliated again, I hear they are going to try and push the fat controller into standing, and he is extremely toxic and not liked by even his own people up north

  I don’t. National is about as inspirational and aspirational as a soggy blanket. Do you seriously see them, under Luxon, or any other leader of the party to be honest, reversing with speed and determination the massive damage that Ardern and her socialists have done?

    Parties that stand a candidate have a good opportunity to get the message out there. An ACT candidate is unlikely to win the seat (this time anyway) but will increase face, name and party recognition. And will have a better idea of on the ground support – who, how much, what for.
    
    Next general election I’d expect to see ACT encourage tactical party votes in selected electorates.
